Who is Earl Sweatshirt and what did his mom do??
He was a an artist apart of Odd Future, it was a group that had many other artists involved as well as Syd Tha Kid, Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator (they were all a bunch of creatives)
Earl’s mom had sent him to a special place to educate him and give him a new and improved state of mind, so during that time he was pulled from the group. Lots of people constantly spammed “Free Earl” but overall she did it to help him and now he’s reformed. If you listen to his earlier music you will see that she honestly did what was right and he says himself that he credits his mom to doing that because he couldn’t stop fucking up anyway

OFWGKTA: The Scene
California Music Scene: Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All
Oldie by Odd Future
Right below the cusp of mainstream exists a space where musicians have strong, persistent fanbases, yet are not widely recognizable by people who don’t know where to look. The latter part is inevitable: an unknown unknown, a reality in which someone does not to research an emerging new music scene if they did not know of its existence in the first place. However, in the early 2010’s, Tyler, The Creator and his Odd Future collective were gearing up to change the landscape of music with their emergence, with their mainstream relevance increasing even a decade later.
Tyler the Creator 911 ft. Frank Ocean & Steve Lacey
Odd Future is the musical collective spearheaded by Tyler The Creator that birthed his success, as well as a variety of other careers in music and entertainment. The most notable stars that emerged from the South Central Los Angeles group were Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean, who have now both won Grammy awards. However, the definition of a star is relative to the beholder: Syd tha Kid, lead singer of the Internet band, as well as the late blooming (but now massively popular) solo career of guitarist/vocalist Steve Lacey are popular names of the youth of the 2020s.

These individuals were supplemental to the group lead Tyler at the time, the shocking and provocative rapping front man that also had many producer credits on their compilations, the Odd Future tapes. Tyler the Creator’s lyrics were notorious for being extremely offensive, homophobic and vile while being 21 years old during 2012. His music was condemned by the stricter morals of the older generation: for example, after his blowup single Yonkers in 2012, the artist was banned from many countries such as the UK, New Zealand and more. However, this form of anticonformity to the established infrastructure is the lifeblood of the emerging internet users in the 2010’s, where internet trolls feed off of such controversial lyrics under the veil of anonymity.
Come Over - The Internet ft Steve Lacey
The brand of Odd Future then progressed past the musical realm, as their style of fashion, heavily influenced by the skater lifestyle of many LA natives, was recognizable, influential, and able to be replicated. Quickly, their OF symbol became synonymous with the Supreme brand, with Tyler often citing the Supreme “box logo” in his songs as part of his attire. Further, their strong brand presence also landed Odd Future with a television show called “Loiter Squad”. This ‘Jackass-esque’ comedy sketch show remains a cult favorite with impressive longevity of 3 seasons for a group founded by musically inclined 20 year olds.
As the individual cogs of Odd Future aged, the machine as a whole inevitably fell apart. After the release of several solo albums by Tyler the Creator, Frank Oceans’ extremely successful release of Channel Orange, and more solo releases by lesser fan favorite artists such as Earl Sweatshirt , Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, the core of the collective gained new identities. The name began to impede their progress, boxing them in with toxic and childish lyrics. The purpose of the group had been fulfilled, and as with many groups do, the disbanding of Odd Future occurred in 2015.
