Good Omens Fic Rec: Divine Restorations & Repairs
While it's unfortunate for one’s car to break down in the middle of the countryside, the pretty-as-a-postcard Tadfield could hardly be considered the worst place Anthony J. Crowley has ever been. Of course, it doesn’t help that it looks like it hasn’t yet seen the turn of the millennia, let alone this decade, but perhaps that’s just what he needs as he crawls his way out of the Hell he’s endured for the past fifteen years. Maybe the last thirty, if he's honest with himself. Though he could do without the rain. When Aziraphale Fell happens upon him and offers him shelter from the storm in his little family-run antique repair shop, neither are expecting it to change everything. The angel with his white umbrella and his tartan bowtie doesn’t expect this mysterious stranger to be able to fill the timely vacancy in his shop or the quiet of his life, but they’ve both had experience in restoring once-beloved items back to their full glory. Perhaps Crowley hasn’t fallen quite so far that he wouldn’t fit in with the rest of Aziraphale’s ragtag team of eccentric restoration experts. And perhaps they may be able to turn that talent on themselves and each other, and seal the cracks in their own hearts.
Length: 315,275 words
AO3 Rating: Explicit/ Spice Level 🔥🔥
Best for: Long sitting or with breaks, mostly safe in public, slow burn, found family story, pick-me-up
Triggers: Murder Mention (not graphic), Minor violence

*Minor Spoilers* I spent an entire Sunday lazily reading this one, and I highly recommend trying that out! This is satisfyingly long, enough of a slow burn that you fall into the world easily. But it doesn’t tease and keep our couple apart more than absolutely necessary. Plus the setting is really enjoyable, it’s a Human AU that I liked living in. Aziraphale runs an antique repair shop, and when the Bentley breaks down nearby, Crowley finds more than just a temporary shelter from the rain. And of course, miraculously, Crowley has the technical skills Aziraphale was looking to hire for. Yeah, sure, there are a couple plot points that are bordering on too serendipitous. But isn’t that just like the Good Omens canon anyway? I’m willing to accept a bit of divine intervention or whatever it is that pushes them together.
A couple things I particularly loved: the shop itself and their projects, Crowley’s backstory and Jewish traditions, the Tadfield community/found family, the absolute romance of it all. And one particular scene where Crowley performs a magic trick on Aziraphale. It had me screaming, crying, throwing up it was so stupidly romantic.
Heaven, or rather Aziraphale's family, are absolutely terrible people. Which parallels the canon well, but in a human world a couple parts seemed a little much for the setting. Like Aziraphale, my love, how can you defend them? I get abusive families but he really is delusional about it. That's the intended point though, and what I love is that this story gives him a way to finally come to his senses by seeing how Anathema is treated by them. He just needed an outside look! Crowley has a past that I won’t spoil here, but it’s very engaging and easy to see how he fell down such a path. It’s a unique take at Crowley, and probably one of my favorites. There's still the hard edge to him we know, but a unique softness that extends to all his new found family. Not just Aziraphale. A little action movie at the very end, but stays on the side of enjoyable rather than cheesy.
This is truly a story you should make time to read. It’s long yes, and I liked doing it in one sitting, but it lends itself well to breaks. You don’t need to scarf it down like I did. The smut is also later in the story and easily skippable if that's not your thing. So for the majority of this, it's definitely something you can enjoy in public comfortably.

Thank you so much for all that you do! I've found so many good fics from your recommendations ♥️
Do you know of any that involve Crowley being homeless or otherwise seriously struggling financially? Thank you!
I have read one with this theme, Divine Restorations and Repairs, so I'd love to rec that too! It's fantastic.
We have some fics in which Crowley is struggling financially here. And I've got a few more in which Crowley has problems with money/housing...
Copper and gold by Joseph_Amadeus (M)
Aziraphale doesn't pick up hitchhikers but he can't help himself when he sees Crowley getting steadily wetter in the rain one night.
Be Still My Soul: The Romance by MirjamOmens (E)
It’s the summer of 1917 in the Grand Duchy of Finland. The Great War rages over Europe, and the empire of Russia, of which Finland is still part, has suffered a revolution. For Azirafel Fjäll, a minor landowner and a shop runner, all these things are only mildly annoying inconveniences. His dear friend, Anton J. Crowley, is not as fortunate. The working-class people struggle to make a living in a world where there's a constant shortage of food, fuel and work. Despite their class differences, Azirafel and Anton have been friends since childhood--and both secretly yearn for more. Can their two hearts find each other as their country heads from one crisis to another? Or will the ever widening gap between their worlds keep them apart?
Sharp Objects by ElderlySardine (M)
Back in the mid-nineties, Aziraphale and Crowley had it all. They were friends, lovers, soulmates. Life was hard, but as long as they were together it didn't matter. Then in one catastrophic fight caused by Aziraphale's cruel, coercive brother Gabriel, the whole thing came crashing down. The boys parted company for good. Now it's 2021. Life has spun Crowley and Aziraphale in very different directions before throwing them back together at their lowest ebb. Can they manage to hide their history from their new friends? Can they forgive each other, and themselves? Could there possibly still be something there between them? And with Gabriel still lurking on the horizon, will they be strong enough to do anything about it?
The Ghost of Husbands Past by A_N_D (E)
Az always knew that he’d be thrown out the moment his father found out he was gay. He hadn’t expected to be declared dead though - or for his husband to believe it! But their marriage had been a foolish teenage impulse (not to mention invalid in America), so when Az moved to a small town far upstate New York to start his new life, he moved alone. The kindest thing he could do was let Crowley mourn and move on, not be shackled for life to a now disabled partner. Tony Crowley never recovered from losing his best friend, his childhood sweetheart, his better half. He’d been drifting ever since; no plans, no hope, no money - and now, just before Thanksgiving, no job either. Given the stark choice of freezing to death or accepting his sister’s invitation to join her upstate, Tony reluctantly lives out the Hallmark cliche of Recently Unemployed Person Moves to Small Town for Christmas. It’s a time of hope, love, and family. It’s time for Az and Tony to find each other again.
Magpie by southdownsraph (E)
Ezra has just been hired as a bartender at an underground LGBT nightclub to help supplement his income while he studies for his master’s, and he can’t help but become infatuated with one of the performers, an exotic dancer who goes by the name AJ.
And the one you mentioned...

Crowley sat atop the stone, staring out where the horizon met the tops of trees, and where the chalk hills rolled beyond them. An unlit cigarette rolled between his fingers, as if he couldn't decide if he wanted it or not.
When he was close enough, Aziraphale cleared his throat. "Hello," he started, throat going tight at the sound of his own voice amidst the quiet fields and trees. "It's me."
"Hi, angel. He looked back at him, noting the plate, and hesitated a moment before he tapped the spot at his right. "Sit for a minute?"
Sometimes there's moments in stories that just stick in your brain because they're so good. This was one of these moments.

Also I thought this would lend itself well to being a picture they hung up at some point, writing notes under it and of course, bickering.
Also hi, if you see this skim, yes I referenced your sims build as closely as I possibly could and tried to get all the details I could find. It’s very lovely.

WIP Wednesday
Lokius, tuxes, first kiss. Minor spoilers for S2E2.
Loki's eyes dropped to Mobius' hands twitching by his side. They'd returned from the timeline after running after X-5 with their tuxes barely ruffled and it was a minor miracle. Well, Loki’s was almost pristine. Mobius' bowtie hadn't survived, lying loose and open around his neck. It was adorable, Loki mused. He chuckled softly to himself, realising it should be his hands twitching to fix it, much like he had done with his friend's tie once before. "We do look rather good," he said, smiling when Mobius looked up at him. "Yeah." His friend grinned back. "It's almost a shame to get out of these." Loki waved his hand up and down at their outfits. The flush on Mobius' cheeks spread like wildfire, and he looked away again, unable to keep eye contact. "Mobius," Loki breathed, stepping into his space. He leaned over him, a hand on the wall behind them, his lips almost touching the tip of his friend’s ear. Up this close, he could see clearly how the white and silver shards interweaved through Mobius' hair. He watched his friend shiver as his breath ghosted across him. It sent sparks of warmth through Loki, his heart pumping faster, his blood rushing in his veins. Tilting Mobius' chin with his hand, his own breath caught in his throat at how dark and wide Mobius' eyes were. "I want this," Loki whispered, "if you do." A small whimper left Mobius' lips, and he gave a little affirmative nod. Loki smiled, stepping closer, pushing Mobius firmly against the wall. He could feel his friend shiver against him, and the overwhelming heat of their bodies pressed together. Dark eyes darted back and forth, a little unsure smile tugging at Mobius' lips, waiting and watching. In all the time they shared in close proximity, nothing felt as charged as slowly letting his lips brush against Mobius', feeling the tremble echo through their bodies as want overtook his friend's seemingly never-ending restraint. He swallowed the strangled groan Mobius let out, kissing him fiercely. Their lips moved together, feeling like home, like this is where Loki belonged. Letting go, giving them space to catch their breath, was one of the hardest things Loki had ever done. But when he opened his eyes, all he could see was Mobius licking his lips. "That was better than whiskey," Mobius said. Loki grinned. "You can say that again."

Queer technology giant Anthony J. Crowley is just about ready to throw in the towel after relationship after relationship has failed, but there's a new barista at the company coffee shop and he's cute and sweet and Crowley's never been able to resist blond hair and blue eyes. The tabloids will have a field day, they always do, but his assistant is getting married and a temp is needed. A temp who really isn't very good at making complicated coffees, has past experience in reception, and absolutely no idea that the latest complicated coffee order came from the owner himself. Aziraphale only knows that he's handsome, patient, and was the first person who told him he was doing well. How could he refuse the temp position? Or, he soon discovers, more.
I know I've been teasing this forever but @sylwritesstuff and I finally posted chapter 1!

Technically, they're retired. The rats are too, aren't they? They shouldn't be pestering them in their cottage, yet there they are. Expectant, hungry, and squeaking. Crowley's sure he can wait them out so long as Aziraphale doesn't find out. That should be fine. Yeah. Course. It'll be fine.

Hi! I'm thrilled to find another fic rec blog, I'm always down to more good fics! Recently I had trouble while trying to find good fivs with D/s dinamic with sub!Aziraphale and dom!Crowley. I'll prefer longer fics (my ideal fic starts from 100k words, but at this point I'll be glad for 10k) and human au, but it's not so important, I'm more interested in good psychology, especially in Crowley figuring out what Aziraphale needs, getting him to trust him enough to let go, etc. There's a lot of fics with opposite dinamic with Aziraphale being caring dom that wants the best for his sub, and I love them dearly but I want some variety, you know? I guess fics without D/s but focused on top!Crowley pampering bottom!Aziraphale will do too (I'm desperate). Would be really grateful for any help, thanks a lot!
oh i feel you, my ideal fic starts from 100k words too sigh... here are some that i've read with that dynamic (although i can't say that i have read any that are quite that long yet):
By Any Other Name by Tartan_Temptation (18k) Aziraphale stared at his reflection. He looked pale aside from the light dusting of pink that was slowly fading from his face. His eyes looked too bright, almost fearful. His blond curls were more disheveled than usual, undoubtedly from the nervous hands that had been carding through it as the reality of his… situation hit him with all the gentleness of a punch to the face. He gripped the sides of his sink and looked his reflection in the eyes. You are a sugar baby. You have a sugar daddy. Crowley is your sugar daddy.
Mint Tea by CopperBeech (31k) Workaday clerical drone Aziraphale Fell unexpectedly comes into a cottage in the South Downs. But life is as drab as ever, and worse, a disastrous decision has left him with mint running rampant through all the beautiful plantings. It's clearly time someone got him- er, his garden - under control. A quickie of cheerful, unredeemed filth, which… grew chapters and a plot. I only work here.   “I must say I’ve never encountered anyone using a – a system like yours,” he said, facing away as if the view outside the window were entirely arresting. “I mean – it was very exciting er interesting the way you were, ah, instructing those plants as if they could – does it really get the results you want?” “Oh, gets results all right,” Crowley said. “Wouldn’t believe size things can grow to, talk to ‘em right.” This, Aziraphale considered, was accurate. The state of things inside his trousers had become genuinely alarming.
Sugar And Spice by SylWritesStuff, ladydragona (95k, WIP) Queer technology giant Anthony J. Brainrotting over Good Omens Alpha/Omega- Verses. Can't get enough of them. I read some others a few years back and wasn't a fan of all the non- con bullsh*t, but the GO ones never disappointed me till now. They are so sweet and with such intriguing storytelling. @sylwritesstuff and @theladydrgn wrote so many good ones, and I'm still not through with all of them.

Hello! I really love The Sometimes Wife and occasionally find other Regency Era fics to enjoy. Do you have any recommendations, particularly for human AUs?
Hi! We have a healthy #regency tag, so do check that out. Here are some more to add to the collection...
Entailed by FeralTuxedo (E)
Anthony Crowley, a single gentleman of seven-and-forty and guardian to two unmarried sisters, is awaiting the arrival of the young clergyman who is set to inherit his estate. A marriage between him and one of the Miss Crowleys would be advantageous for both. But Mr Fell has other plans.
Remain Forever Yours by TawnyOwl95 (E)
Seven years ago Aziraphale Device was persuaded out of accompanying his dearest friend to Egypt. Now a famous explorer, Anthony Crowley is back in London and looking for a wife. Aziraphale is determined to be happy for him, despite his own breaking heart.
More Than by NaroMoreau (E)
Crowley would like to spend another year without marrying, especially when thrust-forced to pick a husband. She refuses to cave in on a matter of principles. She refuses to cave in specifically on a matter of not wanting to be married to Lucien Morningstar. But she might need a hand to break free from such a burden. And who knows? She might even find something else along the way.
Waltzing Vaguely Downwards by WorseOmens (NR)
Lord Crowley was not looking for a potential wife, when he arrived at this party. That doesn’t mean he won’t find one. Part one of the Good Omens Regency AU: The Serpent & The Flaming Sword series
Morningstar Abbey by Andromeda4004 (T)
No one who had ever seen Aziraphale Fell in his youth would have supposed him born to be a hero. His situation in life, the character of his father and mother, his own person and disposition, were all equally against him. But when a gentleman is to be a hero, the attractions of a comfortable, quiet home cannot prevent him. Something must and will happen to throw his destiny in his way. One should never forget that between a hero and his destiny, one will always find a villain. Trusting parish rector Aziraphale attempts to navigate Regency Bath, the marriage market, and the complexities of his own heart in this take on Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey, written for the Ineffably Austen event, March 2023.
Sunday's Child by ladydragona, SylWritesStuff (E)
For a few years of their childhood, Aziraphale Eastgate and Anthony Crowley are inseparable until tragedies begin to strike the Eastgate family. After fifteen years, Aziraphale's become a servant to his own family and Crowley's about to inherit his father's fortune. The only thing that stands in Crowley's way is his Uncle Lucian's tight hold on finances until Crowley marries or comes of age. And the marriage his uncle has in mind for him is out of the question. Thankfully, a chance encounter puts these former friends within range of one another again. And Aziraphale, who's never managed to fall out of love with his former best friend, can't refuse a proposal which offers so much promise. It might hurt, but it might just be glorious too.
