Ashe, Lucio and Kiriko, Leaders in they're own right
I kind of want to talk about Ashe, Kiriko and Lucio's possible dynamic cause I think they're a lot of interesting things to talk about there. Specifically they've been doing the vigilante/freedom fighter/illegal group thing a lot longer than most of the other Overwatch affiliated characters. They're leaders of they're own groups and often stand up in the face of corrupt authority, Lucio with Vishkar, Kiriko with the Hashimoto, and Ashe with the Diamondbacks.
I think them having this in common would be interesting especially in the regard of leadership, especially considering Ashe has been the leader of Deadlock for decades at this point. Both Kiriko and Lucio are rather new to the leader scene (as far as I know) and the fact that what they're doing is less than legal has been pointed out by multiple characters (mostly Pharah and Symetra). So Ashe taking a mentor role could be a possibility cause as we've seen, Ashe has made mistakes but unlike with other leader characters we've seen, that didn't stop her from moving forward, she learnt, pulled herself up, and continued with a new perspective, unlike with Jack and Reyes, once she was called out on her bullshit by her team, she instantly listened and learned.
In the mentor side of things I think she'd more take to Kiriko than with Lucio, but I will get into how I think she could be an influence in his arc. Kiriko in her short story shows a lot of concern for the Yokai, she appears to be the only adult in a group of ragtag teenagers. Similar to Ashe when she started out, other than Frankie than later Benz, Ashe was the eldest member of the initial group and she was immediately in the leader position. I could defiantly see Kiriko worrying about making the right choice in certain situations or questioning her ability as a leader and Ashe telling her about the founding days of Deadlock, how a lot of things went to shit but she continued to push forward.
There's also the fact that the Diamondbacks and the Hashimoto do have a lot of similarities. Both are highly aggressive groups that even other similar groups disapprove of or are against, both abuse the power they have and both solely benefit off the suffering of their communities.
Now with Lucio I think Ashe would be an influence in one specific way, getting him to trust Symetra and Lifeweaver. Ashe made the mistake of questioning Frankie, someone who was previously associated with the Diamonbacks, and almost paid a severe price for it. Not only that but a majority of early Deadlock members were ex-Diamondback members. I think Ashe would be a character to greatly help Lucio in talking about her experience with that. Even if that isn't the case I do still see her, if Lucio starts to get petty with Symetra specifically, telling him that maybe he shouldn't hold grudges against teammates during the middle of a global crisis.
Now with all that said I do think that these two would help Ashe's arc, to clarify, one of my theories is that due to this new Omnic Crisis, Deadlock is going to change from an arms dealing gang, to a vigilante group. This is because if Ashe were to keeping doing arms dealing during the Crisis, she'd just be following in her parents footsteps. Taking advantage of a situation where everyone else around you is suffering. She's shown multiple times both in the present and in the novel that she doesn't want to be like her parents, that unlike them, she understands the harm and tragedy of the Crisis.
All this being said I think her interactions with Overwatch, specifically Kiriko and Lucio (and other character but this ain't about them), will be a big influence in that direction. Do I think Ashe is going to become lawful, absolutely not, but I do see Deadlock taking the Blackwatch role, in a less extreme way but still taking that role. Taking care of the things that this New Overwatch can't really handle, and with Ashe. with what I said before, actually listening to her crew, it leads to a more hopeful outcome then what happened to the actual Blackwatch and with Deadlock actually being a separate organization to Overwatch it gives Deadlock the freedom Blackwatch lacked.
Honestly I just think Ashe is an interesting character to explore in the possible dynamics, cause unlike a lot of the New Bloods, Ashe has a shit tone of experience with post-crisis dealings, how the criminal underworld works and the effect the Crisis had on a lot of people, both positive and negative.

My heart is chained to yours; a Junkrat and Roadhog fanfiction
Chapter 7
Preview
Looking down the left hall, I see the familiar flow of dark brown hair and clacking heels echoing around the empty halls. Breaking my hand from Mako’s, I ran down to see who it could be.
“Jamison, what are you-”
When I saw who it was, I slid to a stop on the smooth marble floors. Smiling widely as I frantically wave at her.
"Oi!!! Symetra!!! It's me, the guy working on your car right now!!!"
Symetra’s eyes widened in shock, for a moment she was a deer in headlights. Relaxing my smile, I rest my hand on my neck as I walk over. But I’m instantly greeted with a clipboard to the face, knocking me to the ground.
“ARE YOU STALKING ME OR SOMETHING!?!! WHY ARE YOU AT MY PLACE OF WORK!?!!
"Uuuugghhh-"
Sluggishly I sit up, rubbing my throbbing cheek.
"No, don't bother, I'll call security to escort you immediately!!!"
Mako rushes to my side and helps me to my feet.
“Uuuugh, Jesus Christ, Mako.”
As I lean against him, he makes me stand on my own.
“Come on Jamison, you and I both know one strike isn’t enough to take you out. You’re just being dramatic so you can be cuddly.”
Rubbing my sore face, I pose dramatically.
“Oh, but my darling, Mako. Is it such a crime to fawn over you?”
“Mako…Mako Ruthledge? The on-hand mechanic that I hired?”
Both of us turn our attention to Symetra, Mako nodding yes in response.
“Sooooo you’re his…son?”
“SON!?!!”
We shout panicked.
“IS THAT WHAT STRANGERS SEE IN US!?!!”
I stand up straight to push distance from Mako, his eyes are wide and his forehead is popping a vein.
“I-i, I don’t know!?!! The only thing we have is white skin. Mine is a bit more tan but still…I…wha!?!! I’m way bigger than you a-and-”
Cocking her head to her side, Symetra’s brow furrows.
“Well, what are you guys!?!!”
“BOYFRIENDS!!!!!”
Dead silent, Symetra stands as stiff as a tree. The lack of sound in the room is almost deafening as everyone is posed standoffish, my insides are gonna explode if I don’t say anything.
“So um… Miss Vaswani, the repairs on your car are going swimmingly. Confidently I can say we are almost finished with the repairs, just waiting on a few or parts to come in. Your car has also been an example for teaching the new set of hands we recently hired.”
“Excuse me, you’ve been using my car to train new hires?”
Instantly, Mako takes my hand and drags me down the hall.
“Oi Mako, we were talking!!!”
Not responding, Mako pulls me far away from Symetra and down a hall. Finally when some distance is gained Mako stops, his body releasing some tension.
“Sorry Jamison…I wanted to leave that conversation. I was getting extremely uncomfortable.”
From behind I hug Mako, my hands resting on his chest. His big hand takes mine as Mako sinks into the embrace and melts into me.
“Jamison…”
Pulling me off his back, he turns me to face him. Mako’s expression is soft as his other hand reaches up to hold my face. Closing my eyes, I lean into his hand as I hold his arms.
“Really… no hesitation…at all?”
In his hand, I nod no while snuggling into his hand. My eyes open, looking into Mako’s sensual but worried expression. His brow furrowed and his eyes wandered from me to around the room.
“Why, did your boat get shaken? Insecure that people think I’m your son?”
“No, no, I…well…in a way yeah. Some say 23 years apart is a big age gap, that's like…could’ve been your dad kind of gap.”
The expression on my face turns annoyed, propping my head up from Mako’s hand.
“Tch, well they aren’t in our relationship. I don’t give a damn what people think, not even Holland. Fuck em’, fuck em’ all!!! Haha!!!”
Tightly, I hold his hands with a toothy grin. Pulling Mako closer to me, we rest our foreheads on each other as I hold his face.
“No one is ever gonna stop me from following my heart!!!”
Wide-eyed, it’s like something clicks in Mako’s head.
“Jamison…”
Comfortably, Mako’s arms wrap around me, his hands not holding onto anything in particular.
“...you really are something. You’ve always been so much braver than me.”

Callaway® Apparel Welcomes New Brand Ambassadors For 2023 We Fit The Game
Callaway Apparel is pleased to announce the signing of PGA TOUR professionals Harry Hall and Brian Stuard as new brand ambassadors, joining current staffer and LPGA professional Emma Talley.
“We are proud to have these two talented golfers joining Callaway Apparel as brand ambassadors,” said Oscar Feldenkreis, CEO of Perry Ellis International. “Harry and Brian are a perfect combination of a young star on the rise and an established veteran and we look forward to supporting them as they perform on the PGA TOUR.  Along with Emma Talley, Callaway Apparel is also worn by dozens of the world’s best players on the PGA, LPGA, Korn Ferry, PGA TOUR Champions and developmental tours.”
Harry Hall, from Cornwall, England, earned his 2023 PGA TOUR exempt status via a top-25 finish on the season-long 2022 Korn Ferry Tour points list and just finished a strong weekend for a T-10 finish at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. He is a former Walker Cupper who played collegiately at UNLV and currently ranks 4th on Tour in strokes gained putting. Hall is easily recognizable in his flat cap, a tribute to his idol Jim Barnes, a four-time Major Champion and member of the same West Cornwall Golf Club.
“I am thrilled to be a Callaway Apparel ambassador and am excited for the year ahead,” stated Harry Hall. “The enhanced performance materials, cutting edge designs and functional styles are great on and off the course. Feeling great with what you are wearing is an important aspect of playing well, and with Callaway Apparel I know that I will always have that box checked.”
Brian Stuard, from Fort Worth, TX,  is a 13- year Tour veteran who has embraced the winner’s circle with a victory in the 2016 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Brian also earned his 2023 PGA TOUR exempt status via a top finish at the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour finals
Emma Talley is a 5- year LPGA Tour veteran and a past winner on the Symetra Tour. She is a four-time All-American at the University of Alabama and is one of only five women to win both the NCAA Individual Championship (2015) and U.S. Women’s Amateur (2013).
Hall, Stuard and Talley will be featuring Callaway Apparel’s exciting new 2023 Spring collections that offer a wide range of lifestyle and performance pieces blending enhanced styling, technically advanced fabrics and performance-driven designs. “Performance is the heart of Callaway Apparel, incorporating game changing innovation to authentic golf apparel,” added Feldenkreis. “The Spring 2023 collections include exceptional variety and innovation so that golfers can look, feel and play their best, every time they step on the course.”

Poorly thought out widow rework
the big talk about town is the debate on how one-shot hitscan weapons can feel out of place in the 1 tank meta of overwatch 2, and how widowmaker is kinda the only one left who can do it. However in order to bring her in line with other characters it probably makes the most sense to give her an overhaul similar to Symetra and Torb, changing up her kit while keeping the fundimental core gameplay (hopefully better than torb did) here’s my stab at it. Damage: cap her damage. i think soft capping so she does 200 on a headshot at 100% charge is the kinder of the two options but honestly dropping it to 180/150 doesn’t sound unreasonable for higher level play. that way she can’t melt tanks and their huge hitboxes, a thing snipers aren’t really supposed to be designed to do anyway. That’s a major nerf but i think you can make up for it and keep her identity in other ways. New Passives: Let widow see low health targets through walls, like sombra hacks, lets her focus on picking off low health and weak targets, a thing that i feel really fits with her core gameplay of a sneaky long ranged assassin. also works for team comp letting her call locations of key targets for her team. secondly? move her venom mine damage to her gun. this is probably the most devisive thing, but i think it’d be an interesting thing to experiment with. the higher damage she deals the longer the venom lasts, it’s a small dot that’s going to force the enemy team to deal with it, but gives her survivability up close by effectively buffing her machine gun.
Ultimate: i think this leaves the window open for buffing her ult, which is great in comp, but is honestly a really low impact ultimate. DPS ults especially are generally big gamechanging moves, so let widow literally wallhack and shoot through walls with it. give her 3 shots like bastion maybe? i dunno that’s what testing is for.
I think ultimately the point i feel of it is that if you lower widow’s damage to be in line with say sojourn’s railgun (not being an outright kill on a full health target) you get a lot of play to buff literally the entire rest of her incredibly underwhelming kit (venom mine is a glorified map ping).

Storytime
Yesterday I played a couple games of overwatch to check out the new healer (dude looks like the caricature of the pretty boy who can get anyone in the room).
And the first game I was DPS and we had no tank effective immediately. The new healer severally lacked healing but we had two of em so I'm not sure why he left. Anyway, we got rocked. Utterly. We got a new tank at the end and still lost miserably.
Game two. As I'm a flex pick I get tank this time and drop into the middle of a losing match. Same situation as last game but now I get to be the hero we needed. Roll up with Mr hammer von rocket charge and. Against all odds. Stomped the opposing team with a mercy Rinehart and mei with zero deaths.
"Where is the rest of my team" I asked aloud to myself at my desk. "There should be five of us present". Symetra is ahead trying to die while I risk myself and shield her every so often and I'm just feeling badass. The enemy say "tank diff" (whatever that means) and we win the tug of war map with complete victory.
The moral of the story.
We cannot always be the hero that's needed. Sometimes we can. And when we can we cannot keep the devil waiting.

Okay, okay, OP.
Can we talk about polar opposites?
Morrison and Reyes
Mercy and Moira
Orisa and Doomfist
Etc...etc...
I would love to see an analysis on how Overwatch handles these characters but ALSO on potential heroes that could have opposites as well.
What is a hero that directly affects the other?
Is there a hero that seemingly has no quarrels with anyone, meaning there's a potential threat potential on the rise? A new character being added?
Everyone has their battles, but I absolutely ADORE the black/white and morally grey middle characters.
I would love to see your take, thank you in advance.
-Reaper Ults to 'Its Raining Men'-
My dear friend, you have no idea the beast you just unleashed.
I LOVE narrative mirrors and foils!! A big part as to why I love Overwatch's narrative so much is because of how much the characters interact with each other!!
The thing you specifically is narrative foils, which is such a big part of Overwatch's storytelling!! Narrative foils in Overwatch are incredibly common, most characters having at least one. The most commonly talked about being Morrison and Reyes, and Moira and Mercy.
Narrative foils are described as "a character who contrasts with another character, typically, a character who contrasts with the protagonist, in order to better highlight or differentiate certain qualities of the protagonist."
Morrison and Reyes are often used to highlight the more emotional side of both characters, the anger, the guilt, the desperation. They also both bring out the others tendency to dwell and chase after the past, clinging to that old sense of normalcy that they lost. Though I do want to point out that Reyes and Morrison are in an interesting position where they also act as a mirror to the other, though they have a lot of contrasting characteristics, they also have a lot of similarities.
Now there's Moira and Mercy, I think out of everyone they foil each other the most. Moira brings out more hostility out of Angela then anyone else we see, Moira brings out Angela's rudeness, her self righteousness, her hypocrisy and the problems with her pacifist belief system. Meanwhile we see Mercy is practically the only one able to get under Moira's skin in a way that impacts her, unlike with other characters where she just kind of sasses them and then ignores them, Moira actively goes out of her way to be hostile towards Mercy. There is also the fact that they contrast each other in a way that highlights how morally good or morally compromised each other are. It think a lot of people forget that Mercy, though disagreeing with in, had a hand in making Genji a living weapon. The biggest problem being Genji wasn't sound of mind when agreeing to this, in contrast when Reyes went to Moira to get the powers he had today he was of sound mind. And again with Reyes and Genji both Moira and Mercy have had history cheating death (though we don't know for sure Reyes would have died in the explosion). Unlike with Reyes and Morrison who can also act as mirrors, Moira and Mercy are purely foils to each other.
Orisa and Doomfist are probably the most explicate foils out of the three you mentioned. Doomfist belief system is that "through conflict we evolve", because of this belief system he ended up terrorizing the city of Numbani several times. Orisa was created to stop him, she was built by a child who had hope for the future, she was built to protect those who cannot protect themselves. In Doomfists eyes she is making the citizens of Numbani weak, but it's also telling that when asked about Doomfist there is one word Orisa uses to describe him, "coward". I wish I could talk more about them, but that's going to have to wait until after I read "The Hero of Numbani" (just like my Echo Analysis with the Sojourn novel).
There are also characters who foil each other while not necessarily being on opposing sides.
Lifeweaver and Symetra very much are foils to each other as well. Sym thriving in Viskars environment while Lifeweaver struggled in it, actively dropping out of the academy. Lifeweaver having the connections and recourses to leave Vishkar while Symetra has only ever known Vishkar, unable to escape it's influence. Lifeweaver being able to adapt and change with the facts given to him while Symetra is only just starting to confront what Vishkar is actually doing. As of what we know in lore Sym and Lifeweaver aren't against each other. That might change with the short story coming out but I highly doubt that.
Ashe and Cassidy also foil each other, Ashe growing up rich, with all the opportunities she could ever have in front of her, while Cassidy grew up on the streets, being destined to end up behind bars. Despite this they ended up in the opposite directions of what was expected of them, Ashe being the leader of the biggest and most prolific gang in the American South-West and Cassidy on his way to becoming a leader of Overwatch. Though one thing I want to point out is that Ashe is pretty much Cassidy's only foil, there are other characters you could make arguments for but Ashe is the only one as explicit. Most other characters have multiple foils but Cassidy is one of the few that only have one.
The only other character I see like this is Sombra and I think it has a lot to do with both of them being the most morally grey out of both of they're respective groups. I will go on a tangent if I continue so this is going in the "mirroring character" post.
I think with your comment on characters being brought in to be foils for other characters brings up another thing I've been meaning to talk about. That is this fandom struggles with the idea that sometimes a character is brought in just to be a contrast to another character, and it isn't a bad thing. Lifeweaver is probably the best example of this, he's a character that was very obviously made to be a contrast to Sym, the same goes for a lot of other character. Not every character is going to have big staory changing plot lines, some of them are gonna be more grounded then others. The same goes for Kiriko too.
As for other character I can see being added to foil others, Sanjay and Mauga are kind of a guarantee. Sanjay would be a really big foil, not only to Lifeweaver and Symetra, but Lucio too. And Mauga would be a foil to probably all the Talon agents that didn't really know or have a choice in joining Talon. As for ones I would like to see, I stated this before but an Australian character from somewhere other than the Wasteland and Junkertown would be such an interesting addition to the story.
Overall foiling characters are a huge part of Overwatch's narrative and it is honestly fun looking at how all these interesting characters interact with eachother. I didn't even touch on the less talked about foiling dynamics!

overwatch rant ahead because when am i not angry at those fucks
i cant even say im disappointed in the new hero because being disappointed would imply i had any expectations. but god. nothing this company has made is fucking good. we still haven't seen anything on meka. and sure this guys whole nature theme might not have fit any of the ideas for the meka characters. but you know what it COULDVE fit? one of the yokai from kirikos story ! the whole wanting to save nature wouldve perfectly fit into the vigilante theme of the yokai. but nooo we gotta make a new guy that adds jack shit to the preexisting story! they couldve at the very least expanded on anything to do with volskya industries. maybe like add more to lucios story or you know. give literally ANY fucking story relevance to symetra. maybe explain what volskya is or what they do more??? but nope. we got a guy who VAGUELY connected to volskya before he left for ?? whatever.
also i dont much about his kit. i dont really care too. but the ability to move teammates. why. would you give the ability to move teammates. to one of the most toxic communities. i just.
