Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent-- the LORD detests them both.- Proverbs 17:15 #georgefloyd On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Derek Chauvin, one of the officers responsible for the death of George Floyd was released from prison in Oak Park Heights. @fox9 reports that a Minnesota Department of Correction spokesperson confirmed Chauvin is no longer in custody, and records show that he posted a $1 million bond. Chauvin has been locked up behind bars since May as he awaited his trial for the death of George Floyd. As previously mentioned, he was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. The legal teams for all the officers that were involved in George Floyd's death have filed motions to have the trial moved out of Hennepin County to any other surrounding counties. They argue that the jury within Hennepin County have already been influenced by the media coverage surrounding the murder of George Floyd. America is NOT the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We ARE the land of the fearful and the home of the slave.

And until we white Americans and all the right wing enablers of us whites can begin to own and acknowledge our fear of losing our privilege, which has resulted from four hundred years of systemic oppression of blacks and other people of color and which began with our genocide of the indigenous inhabitants of this land, true healing cannot even begin.

For there is a world of difference between “adversity”, which we all have our share of, and “systemic oppression”, which people of color have been historically and to the present day remain disproportionately subjected to, as Marisol Ibanez reminded us of in Mic Sessions tonight.

So my plea to all my fellow white Americans and all the right wing enablers of white privilege is “own and acknowledge and begin to openly admit your fears of losing your unearned power”. 

Then, and only then, can true healing even begin to emerge from this current tragic state of affairs we are engulfed in.
