no because nobody talks about how bad tactile/physical hallucinations are. and maybe that’s for good reason because briefly mentioning them triggered them for me just now? but they’re the fucking worst dude they suck and i didn’t even realize they were hallucinations for a long time cause the mainstream view of hallucinations is like “person in the corner” or “guy whispering to you”

So I recently finished watch Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and I’m still trying to formulate my opinions on specifically pararibulitis as someone who has tactile hallucinations.
So if you’ve never seen the show you uh you should it’s just a gay little romp (they were gonna make more characters canonically gay but then the show got canceled RIP) but one of the characters, Amanda, has a fictional disease called pararibulitis. This disease makes it so she has extremely vivid painful hallucinations where, for example, breathing can feel like drowning or snow can feel like frostbite.
And the first time I saw it I went “!!! That’s me!!!” Because I have vivid, extremely painful hallucinations. Most of the time my hallucinations are just hands all over my body, and I’ve had those for about 10 years now, but more recently (within the past 5 years) I’ve started to get hallucinations in the morning that are continuations of nightmares I have most nights. If my kneecaps are shattered in my dream, when I wake up I can still feel them broken and I physically won’t be able to walk for awhile. I have a few others that aren’t connected to nightmares, but this was one of very very very few times I’ve actually seen anyone, fictional or real, have my same hallucinations.
But the problem is um. They invented a fake disease for that.
The second season it’s much harder to look at pararibulitis through a schizophrenic lens because things surrounding the disease get more complicated but the entire first season where she can’t work because of it and is scared to go out and there are no medications for her just hit so so close to home and that’s really really nice. Once the second season hits it does make more sense for it to be a fictional disease but I kinda wish they had just made Amanda schizophrenic because we don’t get good media representation as schizos. We get murderers and criminals and characters the narrative doesn’t treat as human but rather as monsters and here is a main character who is sympathetic as hell having schizophrenic experiences that most people won’t connect to schizophrenia because most people don’t realize schizos can have tactile hallucinations and the narrative gives her a fake disease instead of using a real one.
I dunno I still haven’t really decided how I feel about it yet.

cenesthopathy is so awful and i feel like people aren't aware of it as much so! i'm writing abt it
cenesthopathy is basically when someone feels a sensation very specifically in their body and it isn't medically explainable. it is a type of tactile hallucinations that are usually painful and make the person experiencing it feel ill.
i talk about having cotard's syndrome often and cenesthopathy makes me feel my organs rotting and decomposing. i feel my organs pretty much 24/7. anything my body does i can Feel, even if that technically isn't possible.
it's extremely difficult to deal with. personally, i'm not sure if what i've been dealing with recently is due to cenesthopathy or an actual medical issue.
schizophrenia is also a neurodevelopmental disorder, and i forget that sometimes

i saw ur reblogs and i hope it’s okay to send this but tactile is common w schizo (and i think ocd actually, maybe also autism idk it’s all disordered sensory process) and can feel like a lot of things from what i’ve read/experienced. but lately it’s been bugs crawling on me, that’s been a p consistent one my whole life. or Things In My Shoes That Aren’t There is a new one now…. i have no idea where tf that one came from. but hallucinations can affect all of the senses. i’ve also been having one that has to do w a nasty smell, i really am just gonna undiagnose myself i think
I havr always have these things I called body and brain quakes where it felt like electricity shot through my body but not in a painful way just a non organic way if that makes sense?
I got a 14 page diagnosis in which it said I had schizophrenic tendency so yea probably should've admitted more to the doctor me thinks lmamo
Body sensations are weird and not always bad but are rarely pleasant
I'm sorry if anything I did or said was offensive I've just like had a reckoning

Sometimes, your heart knows before your mind.
It's the little things, isn't it? A little touch when you cross a busy street, the way they smile at your animation. The way they won't belittle your feelings or justify them. Sometimes it is just the way they won't let you give up.
Keep going for those souls, for those sisters, partners, friends, lovers. All it takes is a few times, and you know you'll be there for them when they fall, and when you're close to falling, they'll catch you, and help you back up.
Sometimes, that's just it. And you know what? It's beautiful.

It's so confusing how I go from 'i am immortal and invincible' to 'im dead or dying and there are bugs under my skin and I'm rotting ' it doesn't happen often, mostly I'm the latter. Surprisingly I'm mostly ok right now few tactile hallucinations of bugs in my throat and under my eyebrow and me being dead, but at the moment I can double bookkeep. changes wildly on if I can double bookkeep. My brain doesn't seem to know if I should believe I am actually a dog or if I am human. I'm seeing the human body but my brain is saying it's fake but at the same time I know I'm not a dog

ongietutactio, like ongietuvisio or ongietuauditio, is an ongietusio related to tactile delusions, including tactile hallucinations. the delusion of a physical feeling, rather than the delusion of self. this term is to aknowlege the disconect between reality and ones expirience, not to trivialize, romanticize or otherwise idealize such.
Tumblr media
etymology:
tactio = latin for touch/feel/feeling

Waking up disoriented in a cold sweat at 3am in the dark is probably not the best time to be having hallucinations and delusions about there being angry wasps all over your body. and I need someone to relay that message to my brain. Thank you.

does anyone else struggle with very specific gore that triggers intrusive images, and you can't get them out of your head? and you can, like, feel it on your skin? is that just me??
