Guess who got to design a tadpole shrimp pin for Bizarre Beasts this month!
They came out really well despite me being a bit ambitious with the fine details:
Subscriptions are currently open to get these pins on their store – but they'll only be available until February 12th, so grab some while you still can!
(...They haven't updated the artist name on there from last month. I'm not Emily Alvarez 🙃.)
Screencap from “The Magic School Bus All Dried Up.”
Tadpole shrimp (genus Triops ) are living fossils. Their ancestors have been around since the Devonian period and haven’t changed in appearance much since then.
They have a special adaptation for living in the desert. Triops eggs can enter a state of diapause, or a delay of development, when it’s dry. Once it rains, the eggs hatch.
they're called triop fish and theyre one of the oldest creatures that haven't needed to evolve to survive. and I think they're really cool, also cute and silly looking
