I've been pretty busy! Here are some previews for the updated character art for 2024. I'm planning to make this for the main cast (Sun + 8 planets, likely including Pluto).

The two smaller pictures on the right of the screenshots are from 2020 and 2014, respectively.

I'm so happy with these. It feels like their personalities are finally fleshed out! Let's hope the entire cast gets redrawn by Heliosphere's 10th birthday!

To clarify: The webcomic debuted in WEBTOON last year, 26 April 2023. (anniversary) The project was released to the public in 22 May 2014. (birthday)

Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka!

They're the Descendants in the Isle of Dawn. Three friends that appear to be young men that are the self-proclaimed welcome committee of the isle. They all look up to Betelgeuse highly as a senior.

They are named after the three stars in the Orion Belt, and are themed after the three wise monkeys. Also, all of them are fluent in sign language!

Alnitak - "Hear no evil"

Alnitak is the most vocal of the group. He seems like a mischievous troublemaker, and he may talk bluntly, but he's actually pretty sweet. Sometimes he could be tactless but he almost always means well unless he thinks someone deserves the flak. Give him a ball of yarn and he's bound to knit you a warm sweater to cuddle in during the cold days.

Alnilam - "Speak no evil"

Alnilam seems to be the voice of reason of the group. He is hard of hearing and mute, so he mostly communicates via sign language. He can't produce honking sounds on his own, so he uses his own personal instrument to alert/detect other sky kids. He may seem intimidating at first since he appears serious, but he's kind! He's always up to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

Mintaka - "See no evil"

Mintaka is the quietest and shyest of the group. He often prefers to be on his own, but seemed to feel comfortable with his friends, Alnilam and Alnitak. He often appears aloof; unbeknownst to him, he has more than a few admirers from afar. Among the three, he's the first one to befriend Saiph because he's rather soft-spoken like a calm Rigel.

Using the internet and social media when you have OCD and intrusive thoughts is so fucking difficult and complicated. I’m constantly avoiding triggers and doing mental compulsions and have to remind myself the internet can be a hard place to monitor and we all sometimes see things we don’t want to or shouldn’t for our own mental health.

So another reminder to tag things as accurately as possible! For all types of content across platforms! Genuinely, a missed tag or unclear tagging of content can completely cause me to have a full on spiral of OCD mess and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone else. There are many reasons to accurately tag and provide clear CW/TW’s, and this is just one of them.

in terms of maslow's hierachy of needs, beyond safety (and even that is still dodgey at times because of my living situation), I have unmet needs all over the goddamn map, and yet my brain insists on reaching for the tippy top of the pyramid and trying to achieve transcendence with an urgency that is sometimes so physically painful I can't eat or sleep or stop crying.

and not to be delusional or whatever but it feels like someone showed me the future at some point and like an impatient child I want it right now but I've also totally forgotten the specifics, so I just have these vague notions of things that I think will make me happy but I don't really fucking know. what if I do all the work and I get there, I get what I want and it's all still. this? ugh!!!
