🗝️🏷️ Our blog hinges on RAMCOA, trauma, and related psychology. If those aren’t your vibe, we might not be for you.

About us:

• We are a HC-DID system — that means we were hurt by people who (more or less) knew how our brain worked, as well as how to use that information against us

• We are 17, mostly white (genetically a good chunk East Asian, but culturally Irish and Eastern European), and several flavors of disabled

• We have been told by our medical team that we have: DID, PTSD, ADHD, and others that we are treated for under those. We have physical disabilities that stem from childhood maltreatment. Alters have different symptoms between us, including some that are psychogenic or programmed (purposefully conditioned by abusers)

• Some of us experience language barriers. We have our own languages inside, but we also have amnesia that forced alters to learn external languages during different time periods or other conditions. English is our primary language, and we have translators internally who can facilitate most conversations. You’re welcome to use another, but we may have to use a third-party source to interpret

• Our blog will be triggering, and while many of us know to tag for filtration, some might not. Please be patient, we are not all used to internet etiquette

• We welcome questions and critiques, though cannot guarantee a quick response. We switch a lot, and have varying opinions on just about everything. We may need time to cycle through to someone who can interact helpfully

- There is no correct way to live. Experiences vary, and should be treated with respect for as long as they do not infringe on others’ wellbeing

- Endogenic systems are valid. Unrecognized experiences do not cease to exist, even if they do not have evidence for them. People should be supported wherever possible, and science does not disprove lived realities. Science does explain previously existing phenomena, and should not be weaponized to remove resources from those who use them

- Fiction should not be censored in environments where filtration is available. Topics that would be abusive in the external world (e.g. incest, kidnapping) can be portrayed safely (including when in light-hearted tone or romanticized story-telling) if there are options to divert related content away from those who could be harmed by it. There are dangerous cultural movements which can be spurred by art, but censorship of art is censorship of artists, many of whom are survivors or active victims of given subjects. We interact with these medias and have friends who create them

- RAMCOA is real and an issue, though not necessarily in the form we commonly find when discussing our experiences with those who do not share our history. We will elaborate further in the future

- Victims should be believed when they come forward, especially when doing so comes at no personal cost to the listener

- Harm can be caused no matter the intent, and those accused have some responsibility to review allegations

- There are exceptions to every rule, and individual cases should be examined as such. This does not mean trends are nonexistent, nor that there will always be an exceptions, just that consideration should be payed where due

Hi Lamare, I was hoping you might be willing to help me with something please? I'd like to make some custom changes to WantTrees, but I'm a first-time modder (other than making buy/build/CAS content and some simple BCON edits), so I could really do with some guidance from an expert. I've taken a look at the WantTrees XML and I think I have some idea what's going on, but before I start tinkering with it, I wondered whether you could please give me some general guidelines as to how to read and edit it correctly? Thank you!

Hi, Fran. Not really an expert on WantTrees, pretty much just like you, trying to make sense of what I see, but I'll try.

General Thoughts on Want Trees

(mostly assumptions to take with a pinch of salt)

Want Trees are called trees because their logical paths are like branches. They go from root to child node, and then to its child node, and so forth. Each node may have several children, like a tree stems from one point and has multiple branches with each branch having its own little branches. The way it works for sims is, I think, as soon as one node is triggered, its children become available and may pop up as wants, and so on.

By looking at sims' wants history I noticed that wants are triggered not only when you see them on their panel, but any time sims do the thing that would fulfill this want. Like, even if a sim didn't have a want for a new best friend on their panel at the time of making a new friend, the want gets registered in their wants history and probably will be taken into account by want trees. (This needs more proof, it may have conditions that complicate the logic, but at least in some cases this is how it works.)

There are invisible wants that won't appear on sim's panel -- I assume they serve as turning/filtering points, to stir sim's wants and fears in a certain direction. They're usually called triggers.

One want may appear in different nodes in one or many want trees and have different settings in all cases. Some trees/branches are tailored to certain types of sims, don't be too quick to enable a node for every sim before you looked at all "duplicates".

Node relations may be hard to trace, but the idea is this: each node tag is supposed to wrap around all its children. The root node, being the parent of all parents, wraps the whole tree. Code editors help by collapsing and expanding tags, except for some trees with multi-line comments that get in the way.

Some properties are self-explanatory, some puzzle me, like how frequency and regeneration work or why relationship fields are sometimes backwards with minimum value higher than maximum. This "seeing is deceiving" sort of thing makes me doubt things that look self-explanatory in want trees, but I'll say a few words anyway.

Ads affect probability of a want/fear to pop up. Presumably, the higher the score the more prominent it is. I'm not sure what weight does -- either affects how important a certain characteristic is in overall calculation, or directly adds points to ad score, or else.

When all age, personality or aspiration fields are False, it doesn't necessarily mean the want won't appear, it may mean that those characteristics are irrelevant or not strict. I suspect it may have something to do with the super zero setting: if it's true, then it probably means it's a strict filter, if false -- it's not. I'm not certain.

One property you may not be familiar with is person data -- it refers to things like skills, interests, hobbies, etc. You can tell which is it by index, for example 207 is Film & Literature Enthusiasm. (For those familiar with person data in BHAV editing, the count seems to be +1 in want trees, presumably because 0 is invalid value there. Normally, film & lit is 206.)

Trigger Warnings for Old As Your Omens

Hello! I’m so glad you’re taking care of yourself while reading this thicc war fic. Thank you for actually reading the tags/author’s note and stopping by.

Tags serve two purposes: to help mark trigger warnings, yes, but mostly to tell you what a fic is ABOUT. Even silly tags are actually giving the reader information about the tone and style of the story. However, given this is a war fic and some of our characters have absolutely horrific pasts and go through hard, awful things - listing out every trigger in the tags would a) surpass the tag limit and b) honestly give you the wrong idea of what this story is ABOUT, versus what comes up in it. That’s why we have this post - the detailed, maybe too detailed, list and explanation of trigger warnings in Old As Your Omens.

DISCLAIMER: this is still a WIP. It’s fully outlined and most of it is written (though not necessarily edited), but all y’all who write know - that means nothing if the characters riot. Therefore, I have a PRETTY GOOD idea about what triggers will come up, but not a DEFINITIVE list - not until it’s done posting. I will do my best to highlight any new triggers and warn everyone so we can all have a good time and be safe, but your best bet is the chapter author’s notes.

Now, this is organized! First, are tags that are ON the fic but are more deeply expounded upon. Second, is a detailed list of triggers you might find in the story and then also a brief explanation. There is some overlap. Finally, if you have questions about a specific trigger, just message me!

More Information On Current Tags (Triggers Referenced By The Tags):

Bellatrix is SCARY | How scary? Deeply! A lot of the blood and gore archive warning comes from Bellatrix’ actions. More specifically, later in the story we see her: commit murder, dismember someone, and torture a main character. She also shrugs off the realization someone has been assaulted and while she does not rape a character, she does allow the rape of a character (which happens off screen).

POV Character Death | This is an ensemble cast; it starts with only Regulus and Hermione’s POVs, but the cast expands. At least one character with a POV will die. It’s on the tin, but it’s worth noting. It hurts, I’m not going to lie to you.

Torture | Ehm, well... yeah. People get captured, it doesn’t go great. Pasts are remembered.

Implied/Referenced Sexual Assault | Rape is, tragically, often a part of war. It’s never described in detail, but it is referenced at various points. I’ll do my best to mark if a chapter references it. There is also, much later in the book as we get deeper into the war, two characters who use the assumption of sexual assault to exchange information.

Psychological Horror | A character isn’t quite sure of their sanity and questions their reality, which is to me the scariest possible thing, so...be warned!

Walburga Black Is Her Own Content Warning | Implied/Referenced Child Abuse | these characters have survived some shit | These three tags interplay, mostly referring to the same thing, which is that Regulus and Sirius survived an absolutely gag-inducing, harrowing, awful childhood. Of course, it’s Harry Potter fic, there’s other canon abused children as well. The implied/referenced include verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. More details are below as well, but let’s break this down:

What will I SEE/READ in detail in OaYO:

Certain instances of physical and verbal abuse are either remembered or spoken of directly.

What is only referenced?

The sexual abuse is predominantly a reference rather than dealt with explicitly. At one point, a character reckons with their past sexual abuse (victim of pedophilia and incest) - these acts are NOT SHOWN, NOR ARE THEY GLORIFIED! But the character does remember the lead up and the aftermath as he begins to admit what happened was wrong and heal from it.

A Detailed List of Triggers:

Alright, team. This is a behemoth, which means if I tag every single thing that happens, even only briefly, there’d be TOO MANY TAGS to adequately function. That said - this is that list. Let’s dive in! I’m trying to go in order, but this is kind of a massive story to keep in the head, so bear with me please :)

Gore/Violence | This is an archive warning, I hope this one isn’t surprising in a war fic :) I will not warn throughout.

Explicit descriptions of gruesome wounds | Throughout. This will not be warned each chapter. Bones, blood, muscle tearing, the works.

Poorly Understood Learning Difference | Throughout: A character has dyslexia, a learning difference which presents differently depending on the person. Dyslexia is as diverse as humanity is. This character’s experience is SOLELY their experience. However, it is a minor plot point that the character’s parents and the wizarding world at large did not have language for nor compassion towards a magical child who struggled with speech/reading and part of the overall abuse this character suffered from their parent was an assumption of un-intelligence due to the learning difference. Chapter 7: In addition to magical culture, a muggle/magical character who doesn’t know much about it takes a stab at explaining it and promises to look into it more. They do a mediocre job of it, but their character wouldn’t really know much about it at this stage, especially because a lot of research has been done on dyslexia since the 90s.

Suicidal Thoughts | Some of these characters struggle with PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc. and they are neither in therapy or receiving other treatments. These thoughts do not cross into ideation, but they happen. I’ll do my best to warn for them, but I would advise being prepared throughout. Sometimes they’re subtle and I might miss a reference.

Implied/Referenced Child Abuse | This warning is throughout. Several of the characters have had less than stellar childhoods, and this is alluded to in various places. This is for vague references.

Past Child Abuse: Sexual/Physical/Verbal; Past/Survived Pedophilia/Incest --- NOT EXPLICIT! NOT GLORIFIED! | Referenced throughout (quite subtly in most places, but during a healing arc, more directly), warned in Author’s Note each week. A main character was a victim of pedophilia, incest, molestation, and rape. While none of these experiences are explicitly detailed or shown, they are referenced, and the character struggles with PTSD and magical memories of the events (again, the reader doesn’t see it), all while unpacking other elements of their trauma. Physical/Verbal: some of this is shown in magical memory, mostly it is referenced/remembered. Once in a while it is spoken of directly. This occurs throughout, but it WILL be included in the chapter by chapter trigger warnings.

Okay, but - why even include it? Ultimately, despite literal gagging and crying for the character on my part, this character was silenced their entire life. Part of their healing is finding their voice despite everything that was used to shut them up and make them obedient - including the shame around these abuses.

Implied/Referenced Homophobia, Internalized Homophobia | A character raised in the muggle world struggles with his attraction to men because of the homophobic beliefs of his guardians. He has some angst around it, but it isn’t a significant plot point, and after seeking different magical culture sources, deconstructs that piece of his upbringing.

Dubious-ish Consent (Not Between Main Pairings) | First off, fam, it’s not explicit! Just not me. Anyways - two characters have sex, but one lies about their readiness and desire for the relationship. The two characters don’t know each other well, and so the other partner doesn’t pick up on the lie. The partner who is compromising on their desires is a cisgendered man, and is doing so due to past trauma and guilt. It has poor effects upon his mental health. The other partner is a cisgendered woman, if their genders will impact your personal safety/ability to read.

Dubious-ish? Why not just say dubious? Because, well, the other partner really doesn’t know. She isn’t a mind reader, and she’s going through her own shit, too. Eventually, the more she knows him, she starts picking up on it, and they have a discussion.

Not explicit? Is it off screen or not detailed? Not detailed. The scene does occur, but it would get an M rating rather than an E.

Implied/Referenced Sexual Assault | In a few different instances, sexual assault is referenced or implied, sometimes on purpose by a character hiding their actual (treasonous) activities. Warned by chapter.

Torture | Chapter numbers revealed later (since editing might change them around) ; graphic depiction of this violence in a few chapters. I will warn in the chapter notes if torture occurs.

Major Character Death | What the FUCK!? Why isn’t this an archive warning!?!? Well... it is my hope that when I say “ANGST with a Happy Ending” and “If it’s not alright, it’s not the end” y’all will BELIEVE ME, paritcularly in a fic where resurrection happens literally the first chapter. Okay? Okay. Deep breaths. :)

peeked in the 'asocial' tag and it seems theres like. 10 million different definitions of it being used in various communities? so i feel like having used the term just now i wanna clarify what *I* mean by it

im gonna pop this under a read more bc its a long one.

im NOT using it as an ace/aro microlabel (not judging those who do tho). i dont consider it a part of my sexuality/orientation/lgbtq identity. its more of just a personality thing?

im also not schizoid, to my knowledge. im sure i have traits of it? or maybe my understanding of it is wrong? i just know i went through a brief stretch where my being asocial meant i was schizoid, but upon more thoroughly researching the symptoms of schizoid personality disorder i determined it did not apply to me.

its also unrelated to social anxiety. i DO have social anxiety disorder, but my being asocial isnt a fear-related trait. basically while social interaction/the anticipation of social interaction can trigger an anxious response in me, i dont have a strong Drive to be social in the first place.

its also why i consider my asocial trait as being different from being an introvert. its kinda like introversion on steroids. introverts still seem to have a need to interact, whereas loneliness is genuinely a foreign concept to me.

i also dont consider it a symptom of my depression... mostly. yes, withdrawing from social interaction is a bigtime depression, its more of a withdrawal in that context than an general inclination. when im withdrawn bc of a major-depressive episode, it is characterized by hurt and an overwhelming sense of dread/hopelessness. when its just my day to day default state, however, it has a peaceful, content quality.

so to describe it by what it IS instead of what it ISNT:

-i describe my being asocial as an extreme lack of a drive to be social. i dont really feel the need to seek out interaction, and while i still absolutely DO interact with the people i like, i tend to be abnormally unlikely to reach out.

-being alone makes me feel content, not lonely. it feels like sitting by the window on a cold day, wrapped in a warm blanket and sipping a warm drink, peacefully watching the leaves float by delicately on a gentle breeze, the with soothing voice of the wind whispering to you a comforting hush.

-i love my friends deeply. even when i dont interact with a friend for an extended period of time, i still think of them with a deep fondness. i picture their smiles, the way they make me laugh, the way their eyes sparkle with excitement when they talk about their interests. i feel a deep warmth in my heart, and reflect on how much i cherish them, even though i dont feel inclined to reach out and chat with them at that moment. i can still miss them too, even if im not necessarily doing anytying to fix it! (for the record, hazel if youre reading this i was thinking about you as i typed this section, ahaha 💚)

-i get exhausted and overstimulated by conversation easily, even when im speaking to someone i love about one of my favorite topics. its pretty common of me to tap out of conversations or "leave you on read" for hours simply because i exhausted myself. that being said, i DO love to have deep, meaningful conversations!

-i dont find talkative friends to be "annoying" or a burden. quite the contrary; im flattered they like me enough to invest their time and energy into speaking with me! i just have low stamina.

-its kind of like when youre doing your favorite hobby or playing your favorite game but youve been at it too long and youre too wiped to continue. thats how i feel about talking to the people i like, but my stamina might only last a minute or two before im metaphorically "out of breath"

-i dont hate people. in fact? i LOVE people. i look upon all the humans out there, living unique lives and unique experiences, and i feel a sense of childlike wonder. i think of how fascinating their perspective of the world is; their core beliefs and how they developed, the things that bring them joy that would seem strange to me, the things they know that i simply do not. but i dont really want to necessarily have a conversation with them. i prefer being an observer, reading the thoughts they share in public forums (like tumblr and twitter). humans are so fascinating. i just wanna watch you for hours like youre in a little terrarium!

-im told im great with people, and honestly i make friends very easily! not to say im never awkward or am immune to social fuckups! but im empathetic and am told have a high emotional intelligence and tend to make people feel at ease. im really tactful and great at defusing conflict (my favorite quote was in college when a friend told me "you could literally tell somebody to go fuck themselves without offending them." love it, ahaha). the thing is... i dont WANT to make friends. ive got everyone i need already, yknow? my Friendship Inventory is full.

im also gonna acknowledge that my asocial nature is very likely linked to trauma. i do have CPSTD from abuse that spanned the entirety of my childhood, from my earliest memories all the way into my mid-late teens. alone felt Safe, and it still does. but its not a Disorder; it does not cause me distress or impede my ability to "function." god knows ive got plenty of disorders/symptoms that DO. but being asocial is not one of them.

anyway, i hope this helps people understand me a bit better. im always worried that im a Bad Friend (being in a 6 year abusive friendship w someone who constantly called me that didnt help) for not reaching out to people/checking on my friends more. its just... a Thing. ive accepted that its not something i can change about myself, and i acknowledge that means im just not compatible with certain people, to no fault of their own. and thats fine! im not gonna be insulted or like you any less just because we arent the kind of people who could have a closer relationship in a healthy way. some folks just dont vibe w each other!

to any of my friends (and acquaintances! we dont need to be close!) reading this, i love you! i mean that, and i hope reading this helps you understand that i truly do, even if im bad at showing it.

Hey, anon!

Wee Lees Yes is up in my bio as my safe/encouragement tag. It started out after I joined a Rock Lee Discord and found out it was…mostly teenagers. XD

After a bit of fluster and asking them if it was still okay for me to be there, we became friends.

Broad ranges of age groups aren’t that uncommon among my friends. My oldest friend is Ninety and I’ve known her since I was about eighteen. My youngest friends are about sixteen. Plenty of people my age have children, and some of them are teens by now, and it just…kind of happens when you mostly hang in niche groups by interest, or do stuff as groups in places where your families are. The kids join in or the parents join in pretty organically if you tabletop game or do board games. (I’ve got like. Two seventy year olds I follow on tumblr and their fandom posts or crafting posts are always *Really Interesting*. Different generations consume content and produce content in different ways but that’s…digressing.)

Since I used to have a cluster of minors following me, I started making a tag specifically for them full of Safe Things.

Usually these involved animals (like capybaras—usually chilling in the presence of other animals. Which seems to be…my designated symbol on the part of the Wee Lees.) or useful life posts of things I wish I’d had when I was a teen or…dad jokes. (Because I’m “Dad”. Which is…another long story.)

The three remaining Wee Lees, Frange, Alu, and Nino are all in their twenties now, but I still have all the infrastructure for encouraging posts or…posts that would be safe for a minor to follow if they stumbled on my blog and wanted a hand-tailored tag that’s safe for them.

It’s…basically rooted in the same reason my unsafe tag is “Wee Lees No” and not one of the more common unsafe tags.

Tumblr over the years has had a habit of deleting or restricting certain tags, so I wanted to be sure a less safe tag would still be searchable but also very clearly marked so people could avoid OR seek it out. (Tagging things as NSFW for a while meant they didn’t show up at all.)

I also trigger tag things by request so sometimes you see a whole tag for something like “Not Safe For Cams” in addition to “tw: arachnophobia” because the viability of the more commonly used tags fluctuates depending on current censorship on the site.

Redundancy tends to keep people safe when you don’t know if you can trust something common, but unusual tagging also gives people the option to consume content without necessarily following me as long as they understand my intentions and want what the tag has to offer.

It also means people don’t have to reveal their ages or personal info for me if they’re just trying to take or consume what they want. Because…I’m from that kind of generation of internet safety, and I’m really not that reliable at bio-checking anyway.

Heyo apart from me starkly disagreeing with ur beefleaf hate post, I'm honestly mostly bothered by u tagging it with beefleaf/not censoring the name.

It appeared in the main tag while I was scrolling it, because i rlly love bflf, and I'd appreciate it if u could keep hate out of the tag!!! Its made for ship content, nto hate on the ship.

Again this isn't even because i disagree (ig it's up to interpretation though, but i I want to say that just because someone was once in love with a girl doesn't mean they're straight, bisexuality exists, pls dont erase thar!!!!) its rlly jsut cuz I don't want to see negativity on my otp when I'm looking for content of them :(

Okay, first, thank you for your input.

I will add more tags so that it will make clear that my post is not about positive content about beefleaf.

Then I'll also add more warning in the beginning of my post, so that readers can expect what they are about to read and shippers who don't want to see any negativity about beefleaf may simply skip it.

But I won't remove the #beefleaf tag, because the point of my post is clearly about beefleaf. Just next time, make sure to read it carefully to the entire tags before proceeding and regretting what you are about to read! (while I'll try to be more careful with my 'warning system').

I won't bother to remove my post (nor stop writing more), because I can do anything with my blog which so far contains my personal opinions on both positive and negative thoughts in a balanced way.

I'm not a hater with no life who carelessly enter people's fan-clubs just to bash their favorite things right to their face.

But the tagging system in tumblr is not exclusive, rather it serves to indicate 'what is your post related to?'

So how can I just remove the tag when it is the main topic of my post?

You have the ability to just ignore it & scroll down, people can write what they want and you can read what you want.

So, I’d rather have you block me than remove my (main topic) tag just to ease your mind.

And about the canon things that I said, it seems you also didn't read my post to the end (maybe you got emotional first hmm), my canon breakdown serves as a starting base for understanding beefleaf, but if you get to the section "How can ‘beefleaf’ work better?" in my post, that's also the part where I started ignoring canon, that even though He Xuan had been straight in flashbacks, it is still possible that he's starting regret some of his action & care for Shi Qingxuan.

My canon breakdown for that post is like; "oh so the truth is that, but we can bend it like this".

Lastly, hate posting & rant posting may sounds similar but not the same. You need to read the content to fully understand, but 'hate posting' doesn't contain any positivity to back up the negativity whereas 'rant' is more personal about what you have in mind, yet not necessarily being all negative.

Though I don’t think you want to read my entire post as it triggers you so much.

But in some case, rant my overlaps with hate when the poster only has negativity in mind.

Also when I said “many beefleaf shippers”, it’s not necessarily about you. But if you got triggered by it, then it’s on you.

CA:TWS Anniversary Event - Rules & FAQ

About this event:

The goal of this event is to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Based on the response to our interest check, this will be an open event, meaning we will allow any content related to CA: TWS. We will provide optional (thematic) prompts on a daily basis - based on scenes from the movie, characters etc. - for you to use if you want them. There will be no minimum or maximum for content and we won’t restrict what type of work you want to provide. This can be fic, gifset, podfic, fanart, craft, playlist/song, video, poem, moodboards, rec lists etc. If you are proud of the content you’ve created, then you should post it. You can also cross-post with any other event if they allow it. The event will take place from March 26th - April 4th 2024.

We’ve tried to answer all questions from the interest check & other questions you may have, but if after reading you still have unanswered questions, please send us an ask or email, or DM one of the mods.

FAQ

What type of work is allowed?

To make this event as low-pressure as possible, there will be no minimums or maximums for content. We won’t restrict what type of work you want to provide. This can be fic, gifset, podfic, art, craft, playlist/song, video, poem, moodboards, rec lists etc.

This is an event celebrating CA: TWS, so we do ask that content is focused on CA:TWS, whether canon or canon divergent. We’ll also allow post-canon works, provided they take place during the CA:TWS era (so pre-AoU, for example: Bucky recovery fics). Your work should include at least one of the characters who appears in the movie (e.g., Steve, Bucky, Rumlow, Pierce, Maria Hill etc).

Do I have to use daily prompts?

No, the daily prompts are optional. They’re there to serve as inspiration should you need it and your works do not necessarily need to be associated with the theme/character of the day either.

Can I use more than one daily prompt?

Yes, you can use as many as you’d like! If you think it fits, you can use it.

Do I need to post my creation on the day the daily prompt is for?

If you want to be featured in that day’s masterlist, yes. For example: if you use a daily prompt from the March 31st list, but you post it on April 2nd, it will still be reblogged, but it will be featured on the April 2nd masterlist and not the March 31st one.

Does this event require a masterpost?

No, this event does not require a masterpost. If you do make a masterpost, please tag us and we will share it at the end of the event.

How will works be shared?

We will regularly check our twitter/tumblr mentions and reblog/retweet creations provided they follow our rules. Content on Tumblr will be queued to the event account to spread posting.

We’ll also make daily masterlists (posted 1-2 days after given time zones/to collect all content). This should also allow content only posted to tumblr or only posted to twitter to be shared more widely. If we miss something, please let us know!

Oh I LOVE that you asked me this :’) Thank you!

I honestly have so many if I really think about it because I love them so much and I think about their dynamic so much that I have so many favorite things... but here is what I think of off the top of my head:

• Steve was color blind before the serum, according to canon. I have a headcanon that Bucky used to try to describe colors to him. I wrote a mini fic about that here.

• Bucky was drafted for the war, but didn’t tell Steve. Steve sort of assumed that Bucky enlisted, and Bucky never wanted to correct him. How could he? Steve wanted to enlist so badly, and Bucky didn’t ever feel like he could admit that he didn’t have the same drive to want to ~fight for the country~ like Steve did. He didn’t want to disappoint him and he was afraid Steve would think he was a coward. So Bucky just... never told him that he was forced into war. It was never his choice to fight for the country. If it was up to him, they would’ve stayed home together and stayed safe and never fought at all.

• They were always physically rough with each other, in the sense that they'd wrestle as boys all the time, and Steve loved that Bucky never treated him as fragile. Buck knew he could take it. Even after the serum, they'd still scuffle a bit like kids, finding a bright spot in a war-torn world. They’d be awake in the trenches on lookout, having soft conversations in the night, and shoving each other after one says something stupid or makes a bad joke.

• Steve is bi, and Bucky is gay. Bucky was consciously aware of his feelings for Steve way, way before Steve was aware of his for Bucky. In the 30s, Bucky has a bit of a reputation for ~dating around,~ but not in a rude ladies’ man kind of way but rather his reputation is “Bucky Barnes is a real charmer. He’ll show you a good time and he’s really sweet, but he never pushes your boundaries.” Some women wishes he’d push their boundaries, but he doesn’t. He’s taken so many women out on dates because he never lets it get super serious, since they’re not who he wants and it’s mostly for appearances’ sake, especially since he and Steve live together. He definitely enjoys hanging out with women, and treating them nice, but most of the time his motivation is to try to set up double dates–half because Steve deserves to find a great girl to date, and half because a double date means Bucky can selfishly do a date activity “with” Steve and not have it mean anything. Meanwhile though, Steve gets jealous as hell and testy about Bucky dating all the time, but he’s oblivious to the fact that it’s because Steve wishes Bucky would be with him instead.

• Their first kiss was when Steve was 16 and Bucky was 17. I’m not necessarily saying that’s when they actually got together, but something significant happened between them at those ages... maybe they kissed because they were drunk, or it was so Steve’s “first kiss” would be someone he knew and it was for “practice.” And then they both never talked about it again, because they’re idiots and were afraid to ~ruin things~ between each other. That’s why Steve says “Rumlow said ‘Bucky’ and all of a sudden I was a 16-year-old kid again, in Brooklyn.” That’s why “seventeen” is one of Bucky’s trigger words as the Winter Soldier. It checks out, because Bucky is a little bit older than Steve.

• Steve doesn’t fully admit the depth of his own feelings for Bucky to himself until he finds out Bucky’s been captured by HYDRA. And then he tears Europe apart to get him back. He’d have done that anyway, obviously, but... the prospect of losing Bucky forever is really what makes him realize how much he can’t handle that concept. Because he’s in love with him.

• After Bucky “dies,” Steve gets more reckless, and that’s part of the reason he put the plane in the ice and didn’t try to survive: he didn’t want to live in a world without Bucky in it. This is supported by canon. And so I headcanon that, after Steve finds out about the Winter Soldier, one day he abruptly realizes that he could’ve died in that plane crash and never known Bucky was alive and brainwashed and suffering. He thought Bucky was dead and he wanted to follow him, and he could’ve left Bucky even more alone in the world without knowing it. When Steve realizes how close he came to leaving Bucky behind like that, he throws up. It horrifies him to think about it.

• They each have a pair of dog tags where one says “Steve Rogers” and one says “Bucky Barnes.” They swapped one tag each, so that they’d have a matching set, because while they couldn’t list each other as “next of kin,” they wanted tangible evidence that would show other people how important they are to each other. So people would know: tell him if something happens to me.

• Their Brooklyn accents come out / get heavier around each other, especially if they’re bitching about things or arguing.

• Bucky is a complete sci-fi and fantasy nerd–which is now confirmed canon, and I love it. In particular, I like to headcanon that he loves to read paperback sci-fi novels, and discount romance novels. He unironically enjoys them, and he leaves them allllll over the place. One of the things they love to do is Bucky will sit around and read while Steve will sit around and draw/paint, and half the time Steve gets distracted sketching Bucky’s facial expression he makes while he’s reading.

• Bucky is also a pop culture gremlin. He will try and often get interested in pretty much anything and everything, without rhyme or reason. In modern day, he and Nat will watch trashy reality TV together–sometimes to make fun of it, sometimes to get invested. Steve thinks they’re insane for that. And sometimes Bucky will like one niche thing but then for very specific reasons he dislikes another similar thing. It makes sense to him, even if Steve doesn’t get it.

• Steve tends to be pickier with the kind of stuff he enjoys. He’s always had Strong Opinions™️ on everything, including and especially art. Put him in a museum and he’ll have a lot of thoughts on all of it. He doesn’t judge things or hate on other people for liking things he doesn’t like at all, but he won’t get hooked on a movie/show quite as easily. The one exception is animation, which he absolutely adores, and he goes on a wild binge of all kinds of animated content for awhile–shows and movies–because the various art styles and uses of the medium to tell crazy stories just fascinates him.

• Easy access to so much music is one of their mutual favorite things about the 21st century. Bucky often gets into individual artists’ entire discographies and becomes a fan, whereas Steve often gets into a handful of specific songs from a wide range of various people. Like... Bucky will often love an entire album, and Steve will often love 2 songs specifically more than others. But even with that, Steve loves collecting vinyl records–both old and new ones.

• Bucky has a fantastic singing voice even though he’s shy about it, and he tends to hum along to music when distracted or working on something else–especially while making something in the kitchen.

• Bucky likes technology more than Steve; Steve likes physical stuff more than Bucky. Bucky loves to take photos and videos of things all the time, hoarding digital memories in a way that’s precious to him, knowing that they’re “safe” and accessible anywhere. They lost so much of the objects that they loved a century ago, and photos were scarce, but now... there are endless ways to have pictures. When Bucky was recovering in Wakanda and Steve was on the run, Bucky would often text Steve photos–sometimes without captions–to wordlessly share bits of his days with him. He’s got a good eye for photography, except for when he takes the photo equivalent of shitposts to make Steve laugh. Regardless, Steve gets his favorites printed–some of Bucky’s photos, some of his, some of their selfies–so they also always have something tangible to hold onto.

• Bucky calls Steve “sweetheart” sometimes, just to be a little shit–and he means it. It makes Steve turn red every time, without fail, but he secretly doesn’t mind it.

Okay I’ll stop hahaha. Those are the main ones that come to mind for me all the time when I think of them!
