HSL Horror Movies headcanon

[Seen these kinds of posts on Tumblr a lot but don’t typically do them myself, but for some reason this just wouldn’t leave my head! Of course this is all based in an AU where things went semi-better.]

- Shio doesn’t watch horror movies ‘cause Satou doesn’t let her. Except if there are any good horror-comedies that Satou thinks Shio might enjoy, in which case she shows her only what she’d be able to handle seeing, and any nightmare fuel that may be in those parts is neutered by Satou’s comforting presence watching along with Shio.

- Satou enjoys watching horror movies. Since she’s such a scary person and has killed people before, very little in the movies phase her. She’ll usually watch them totally straight-faced, except when a character will do something fatally stupid in their situtation, in which case Satou’s a non-stop snark machine and loses her shit laughing if those fatally stupid mistakes actually result in the character dying.

- Asahi is very selective about horror movies - he will only watch movies about monsters and other such horrors that demonstrably do not exist in real life, as real life is scary enough with its own monsters and ugliness to make him care to see any realistic horror depicted on film. He finds himself a fan of the older, B horror/monster movies and shares them with Shio and Satou when he finds it appropriate to.

- Shouko is chicken-shit terrified of horror movies. She’d never watch a horror film that she knows is a horror film, so sometimes Satou will paint a movie they’re watching in a non-scary light so that she and Shouko will watch it together. Shouko is never happy to realize she’s been had and spends most of the movie cowering behind Satou, squealing in terror and cursing her for making her watch this thing!

- Mitsuboshi avoids horror movies like the plague. There is no way to get him to watch one, so no one has even tried.

I know that Hikaru is obsessed with the idol Ai than the actual person I think the reason why he was obsessed with her has something to do with the breakup and going out with her. the reason why he didn't want to acknowledge her humanity has something to do with having to look at his own trauma.

This is where I'm at on things myself, especially given the info the latest chapter just dropped that Hikaru's assault at Airi's hands was not a one-off incident but a process of grooming and abuse that went on for at least three or four years. Given the parallels that have been built up between Ai and Kana, I do think Kamiki saw Ai as his 'light', a respite from all the darkness Airi was pouring into him. More specifically, I think there may have been an element of him fixating on Ai's supposed purity as an idol.

I'm putting the rest of this behind a cut, both because I am going to be discussing CSA and SA in a little more detail and because it contains discussions of and spoilers for the series Happy Sugar Life in relation to the topic. I don't go into super intense detail, but I also wanted to give people a chance to Not read it.

So the reason I bring up HSL is because my theory right now is that Kamiki may have had a similar fixation on Ai that the character Taiyo Mitsuboshi develops for Shio in their respective series.

Taiyo is a character similar to Kamiki in that he too is assaulted by an adult woman over the course of the series. As many victims of SA sadly do, he internalizes the trauma from this event as being something that makes him 'impure' or 'unclean' and agonizes over how he can be made 'pure' again. To this end, he fixates on Shio (a young girl around eight or nine) in a way that is decidedly traumabrained and uncomfortable not not necessarily sexual or predatory - rather, Shio's kindness and the purity he perceives in her provides him some genuine catharsis and relief from his pain. With no other outlets, Taiyo fixates on Shio as his one avenue to being 'cleansed' of his dirtiness and perceives her as an angel who can save his soul.

While not to the same discomforting extreme as HSL, because everything in that series is roided up to an 11 (disclaimer: against my better judgement i like HSL LOL) I do think this general emotional arc, of internalizing his own supposed 'dirtiness' from his abuse and fixating on someone else's 'purity' forms the basis of Kamiki's attraction to and obsession with Ai as an idol, at least based on the info we've gotten so far.

Mitsuboshi in the manga is a disgusting pedo creeper too, but with one key difference being that I actually maintain sympathy for him, something that the anime version just did not do for me. The stark contrast between his final scenes in both versions makes it clearer.
