Slakoth Facts
Tumblr media
(Art by Takao Unno)
-The scientific name for Slakoth is "Megatherium segnis" which roughly translates to "Sluggish great beast"
-Slakoth sleep for 20 hours a day
-Because of how little they move, Slakoth don't need to eat much, and can live on as little as 3 leaves a day!
-Slakoth live in troops with other members of its kind. They mostly hang around with other Slakoth and Slaking sleeping all day, while the Vigoroth go and hunt for food
-While these pokemon feel like they would be sitting ducks, not many pokemon hunt them. This is mostly because they're said to taste really bitter, and pokemon that comes near them will be viciously attacked by Vigoroth
-Slakoth who have traveling trainers often hang on their back and sleep their for most of the day (it's cute as honk)
-Slakoth have been known to be so slow that moss can grow on them
-Despite their sluggishness, they have incredible grip strength, and some have been known to be clinging onto trees even when they're dead
Tumblr media
-Slakoth claws are very sharp and dangerous and should be handled with care
-Slakoth are nearsighted and have trouble seeing things that are far away
-They're hairless in their butts
-Many baby product companies will use a Slakoth as their mascot since these Pokemon look and act like a stereotypical sleepy baby
-They have a great sense of smell and spatial memory
-Slakoth can turn their head 270 degrees
-Slakoth's heartbeat beats once a minute
-In many cases, the nests that Slakoth sleep in were made by Vigoroth
-Baby Slakoth are called Slowbie
-It can take up to 30 days for a Slakoth to fully digest food

Don't you think it's fucked up?
Pokemon is a massive franchise, its entire backbone is a series of monster designs that resonated with people. When it comes to who actually designed those monsters, the media for the series seemingly credits all of the people who worked on each game, but there's actually a crucial way in which it slacks at crediting artists, which is that in many cases we've never been told who specifically did a given design. Take for instance Ruby and Sapphire, games that introduced over 130 pokemon (the third highest count any game in the series has). We can say with decent confidence that this full roster was a collaborative effort between Ken Sugimori, Atsuko Nishida, Motofumi Fujiwara, Shigeki Morimoto, Hironobu Yoshida, Muneo Saitō, Satoshi Ohta, Rena Yoshikawa, Asuka Iwashita, Aimi Tomita, Takao Unno, Kanako Eo, & Jun Okutani. Feel free to verify that list by the way, I may have missed someone. That's all fine and good, but please tell me, which of those names designed Delcatty? How about Absol? Gardevoir? The Regis? None of these have confirmed answers. Likewise, in the cases where we can pinpoint a designer, we often can't list all of that designer's work within a generation. For example, we know that Ken Sugimori designed the Blaziken line, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, and Groudon, but we don't know if that's the full list. In fact, for most artists that have ever been credited in this series, we have no idea what they designed at all, such as Aimi Tomita; we know she worked on Ruby and Sapphire, but we can't confirm anything about her involvement. A way to answer all of the questions surrounding this, which I think the capitalist ghouls at the pokemon company would be interested in since they can sell it, would just be to release an art book that properly credits them. Additionally, it'd be really interesting to see some insight from the creators on what the process of some of these designs was like. I don't have reach by the way, if you want anything done about this the best we can do is spread awareness of this issue and similar ones within other media. I'm positive it's not unique to pokemon, I just think it's a particularly jarring case given how much the series rides off the work of these designers.

A card with some art done by Aimi Tomito, it turns out the TGC is better at crediting artists than the main series.

Been avoiding a lot of these totes real starter evo leaks, but my bestie @hikikomori-route showed me these ones and man...
Tumblr media
Allegedly a lot of people believe that this is real, and I'm really sorry to those people, but its practically impossible that these are real, and it has less to do with the designs themselves and more how they're drawn. And by that I mean they look like very obvious fakemon designs.
Let's start with the obvious: the lineart. In a lot of places the lineart has a very 'Deviantart fakemon design' feel to it, and you really gotta zoom in on certain parts for it to become obvious. Things like the way the dark green on the Sparigatto evo's cape fold not looking like its actually curling like a cape would, or the Fuecoco evo's teeth not all being uniform and the way its claws look, or the way the Quaxaly evo's arm feathers and legs look. I'm not gonna be mean and say the lineart looks bad, more 'unprofessional'. If you really put it under a microscope you start to notice little bits and bobs that don't look all too right.
Secondly is just the fact the designs are very obviously trying to go for a 'Ken Sugumori' or 'Pokemon' style, when in reality every Pokemon isn't just made by Ken Sugumori; that's never been the case even so far back as Generation One. Pokemon has a lot of artists that design their creatures, but a lot of fakemon designers who come up with these leaks probably assume that every Pokemon was designed by Sugumori (which results in the whole 'Sugumori Style', when every artist kind of brings their own flair to the table) and sort of blend all a hodge-podge of unique style traits into one rigid uniform "Official Pokemon Art" look. Seriously, I went through every artist on Game Freak via Bulbapedia and cross-referrenced these 'leaked' designs with actual Pokemon designs trying to find an artist that it matched and I legit couldn't find one. Its not Ken Sugumori, its not Takao Unno, its not Lee HyungJung, its just 'generic official looking Pokemon artist' and that really kind of exposes that these aren't real.
Even small things like the shading being a little off, it just all makes me go "This isn't real. These are fake." And if I may take a little shot at the kneecaps, these designs are so obviously what everybody predicted. Like wow, its so convient that Sparigatto became bipedal furry bait like everybody said it would, just like how its so convient that Fuecoco became a generic badass fire gator like everybody wanted it to. Everybody expected Quaxaly to become this elegant bird in its final form, and would ya look at that this totally real final evo leak confirms that!
After SuMo and SwSh, I've learned that Game Freak isn't going to give us what we want when it comes to a lot of things; but especially when it comes to the starter evos. Here's to hoping that the real designs aren't this mid.

Pokemon Character Designers and What Pokemon they designed/helped design!
Ken Sugimori is one of the most well known names involved with the art and design of Pokemon, but he was never the only one making them! Pokemon as a whole is a huge collaborative effort, and its fun to see who put what pieces into the the 807+ piece puzzle we have today! Maybe you’ll learn something new about some of your favorite Pokemon?
This is not at all a comprehensive list, there are several more designers that have worked on Pokemon over the years and a majority of Pokemon we simply do not know the original designer of! The Pokemon that we do know the designer of that I haven’t listed here can be found at this source: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User:Altruis/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_their_designers
