Fic idea that won't leave my head despite my continued insistence that I'm not going to write it (Bad dad Eggman warning)-
It's a Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games fic. Bowser and Eggman are hanging out, villain solidarity and all that.
Metal Sonic walks in. Eggman precedes to pause his conversation with Bowser to absolutely scream at Metal for coming in third place in the 100m sprint. The whole nine yards. "I built you to be SUPERIOR!" and all that. He then orders Metal back to the training area to practice clear through the night 'til the next morning.
He then turns back to Bowser and says, "you were right! Kids are difficult!"
And from that moment Bowser makes it his mission to adopt Metal Sonic at all costs.
Just one problem- nobody believes him.
The Mario gang insists that it's none of their business. There's a truce between heroes and villains during the games, after all, and Peach isn't interested in pissing off what she sees as Mobian sovereign who's been known to mess with cross-dimensional shenanigans before.
So, to the surprise of everyone, Bowser then goes to Sonic to mention the problem- only for an apathetic Sonic to emphasize that he's already given Metal enough second chances by now and that frankly it's his own fault if Eggman's mean to him. Most of the rest of the Sonic gang seem to agree with this- with the distinct exception of Amy, but even she's hesitant to stir up trouble during the games. She suggests that if Bowser nicely talked to Eggman about all this, maybe Eggman would treat Metal Sonic better!
But of course, Bowser already gave the dress-down of the century to Eggman the very moment after he sent Metal Sonic away. Did Eggman listen? Of course not.
But we all know that Bowser is nothing if but persistent. He also happens to be the resident expert on kidnapping people. . .
Step 1: Bowser got his kids together and asked them to help him befriend Metal. So now Metal's got this menagerie of Koopas suddenly taking an interest in him and he doesn't really know how to deal with it. Other kids? They think he's cool and not a failure? They invite him to hang out and do fun things? But of course, Eggman prohibits "fraternizing with the enemy", but Metal finds ways to get around this order anyway.
Step 2: have the Koopa kids teach Metal a koopa sign language- one of the kids, Lemmy, already uses this sign language because he's nonverbal, so it's not too hard for the rest of the kids plus Bowser himself to sneak in a few lessons behind Eggman's back.
Step 3: once Metal is conversational, Bowser asks Metal if he'd like a new papa who won't scream at him so much.
Step 4: realize in horror as Metal explains that he can't leave- Eggman's programming won't allow him.
Step 5: Bowser asks Amy to ask Tails how to get the subservient programming out of Metal's head. Tails then provides a small USB plug-in that'll give him remote access connection once plugged into Metal's systems so that he can undo the programming.
Step 6: kidnapping time!
Step ???: realize that Metal would actually prefer to be a girl. Bowser's daughters/GNC kids then proceed to dress her up in the blackest, spikiest clothes and accessories they have. Metal adores it.
Step 7: ruin the entire Olympic games setup as Eggman threatens violence against whoever stole his robot.
Step 8: Metal gives her original "dad" the finger as she jumps into the portal back to the Koopa kingdom with her much cooler new family.
Uhhhh skip a few steps in here as the whole Bowser family goes no contact with the rest of either gang for a bit. They don't care that they ruined the Olympic games, not when they got a cool new daughter/sister out of the deal. Eventually the Mario gang comes around and forgives Bowser for ruining the games. They then invite Metal go-karting. All is well.
Step 11: Sonic visits the mushroom kingdom one day and is absolutely appalled to find out that people say to him "ohhhh you're like the flesh version of Princess Metal from the Koopa kingdom!"

Wanted to share this little SonAmy excerpt from the Prologue of my Tails fic, which takes place after Sonic Frontiers. Enjoy!
Under the midday sun, Amy and Sonic stood together silently as they waited for Tails to come out from the hangar. Amy was ready for her trip in fashionable style, wearing a straw hat and neck scarf, accompanied by her hammer and a singular large briefcase.
Although she could set them down, Amy kept both items in her hands to keep them occupied, as she and Sonic waited with a slightly awkward silence. Besides the fact that Tails was taking forever, there was this slight tension in the air surrounding her goodbye, at least to her.
Amy and Sonic were comfortable with each other. And really, she had no doubt that Sonic cared for her - his concern for her digitized state in the Starfall Islands, and willingness to help the Koco at her insistence, was proof of that. While she still cringed at her boisterous personality from the early days of fighting Chaos in Station Square, she and Sonic have grown to be good friends and battle partners.
At least, that’s what she’s trying to convince herself, anyways.
Amy snuck a glance over at Sonic, who she caught with an uncharacteristically distant expression on his face. His short temperament and attention span meant that he typically wore his heart on his sleeve, so it was generally easy to tell how he was feeling. This was one of those rare moments where she couldn’t quite figure out how he was taking all of this.
Maybe it’s because, deep down, she felt some sort of spark, or shift in their dynamic, while they were on Kronos Island, but was finding every reason to be in denial of it. Sonic wasn’t the type to be overly sentimental, or vulnerable with his inner monologue, but Amy knew he cared for his friends and always stepped up when it counted. Because of that, she didn’t want to open the box of feelings she sealed a long time ago, and knew better than to get her hopes up just because of a few fleeting moments she could read into.
She quickly glanced back at the ground, to hide the fact that she was staring. But the silence was getting to her. Lifting her head, she opened her mouth to speak, but Sonic went ahead and beat her to it.
“So, uh, you excited?” He asked, an awkward smile on his face. In addition to having his hand on his neck, Amy could see Sonic tapping his foot anxiously.
“Oh! Yeah, I am,” Amy replied, if not more awkwardly, keeping the exchange cordial. Her heart was beginning to race, a familiar anxiety creeping up that almost felt thrilling. She bit the inside of her cheek, trying with every ounce of her being to suppress it and appear as normal as possible.
“I bet. It’ll be fun,” Sonic nodded, keeping his tone friendly while trying to find more words to fill the air. “You’ll have a good time with Sticks and Cream.”
“Yeah, they were really excited when I told them about it,” Amy smiled, rocking a bit on her heels.
“Yeah.” Sonic looked down, then away, a bit of sweat forming on the back of his neck. God, this conversation felt painful.

Sonic Pokemon headcanons! (with the sssumption that theyre IN the world, not playing just the games)
I know Sonic is terrified of water but do you think he'd primarily use Water and Electric type Pokemon? He'd always be like "I'm telling you it's NOT just because I'm blue!!!" Despite his fear of being IN water, he actually sees Water type Pokemon as very pretty! (and also, Water types can carry him over water or help him in a pinch, if he falls in). If not Water types, then I'd say Flying types, as they're also very cool and very fast usually! He has a few Dragon and Ice types too.
I can see Shadow using Fire and Psychic type Pokemon, and some Dark types here and there (mostly Dark-Fire types though). Psychic types because he's somewhat weak to the very alien-esc nature of them, and also Mewtwo. He just... Mewtwo is his buddy okay? (Also he'd help look after Amy's Grass types and Normal types from time to time). Oddly enough I'd almost say he'd have the most balanced sort of team. Also, he has an Oricorio (Sensu style) who started following him around after he visited one of the grottos of Alola with lavender fields. The Pokemon doesn't battle at all, and he hasn't even caught them, but they do enjoy being around Shadow quite a lot and help comfort him when he has anxiety attacks. Shadow likes to call them "Marmar", which they seem to respond well too also.
Rouge uses all the Pokemon that look like bats really, lol. She also shiny hunts often. She probably has a Sableye, and she also like Rock types that are SPECIFICALLY shiny and like gemstones (she's still convinced the crystal Onix exists)
Tails uses Steel and Electric types, he trades Sonic perfect-IV and EV electric types for variants of Pokemon he doesn't have yet. He's the one collecting every Minior and shit lol, and also is the one to be doing the breeding and competitive-set creating. Also he has multiple Vulpixes and Ninetailses because they make him happy. He has like... One or two Flying types that came from Sonic, also.
Knuckles plays the game like we all did as kids, he gets rid of ever stat-changing move to replace it with the strongest attacks he has access to, then proceeds to fail many times and questions why. He uses Rock and Fighting types mostly, of course.
Amy uses Normal, Fairy, and Grass types, though she doesn't battle much and instead helps Tails to breed Pokemon and keeps a huge garden where many Grass types relax in peace. Shadow helps her take care of it when he visits, and many of the Skittys she has have taken a liking to him (and his Purrloin).
Omega strictly uses Steel and Electric types that are, in some way, robotic.... And by uses I mean has somehow managed to directly connect to and communicate with them. He doesn't even catch them, they just basically Bluetooth sync to him and they all go "Let's kill shit".
At some point Sonic goes into that fuckin cave place where you find Mewtwo, preparing to finally battle them, and ends up finding Mewtwo and Shadow just fucking chatting while sitting on some rocks and is just like
"I'm...sorry???"
Shadow's like "Dude we're in the middle of a conversation either join or leave"
Shadow brings Marmar to meet Amy for the first time and, Amy being one who can probably understand normal Pokemon talking or some shit like that, tells Shadow why they'd even originally taken a liking to him, which was because he shared the same colors as their old partner, a Baile style Oricorio. The two used to dance together in the trees, until one day, the other never returned. When Marmar had gone to the other's own flower field to search for them, they found it to have been destroyed, either by a raging Pokemon, or by people. They'd been left quite lonely, since then, and finding someone quiet like themself, who had the same colors as their lost partner, brought them comfort they hadn't felt in a long time. Shadow probably ended up crying hearing that to be entirely honest, I mean, they'd both lost someone they'd cared deeply for, of course it would hit him hard.
Rouge attempts to "steal" Knuckles' pretty Rock types but it ends up being more like she randomly takes them to get a bunch of treats and then they go back to Knuckles once he finds out lmao. She ends up having a whole family of Carbink living with her too. Despite her seeming selfish to outsiders, she's actually incredibly caring to her Pokemon, and even others' Pokemon when needed.
Sonic get electrocuted regularly by his Electric types to a point where Tails has become genuinely concerned for his health, like actually properly worried about him, because he CONTINUES to walk it off like it's nothing. Which is normal, but still.
One of Sonic's favorite Pokemon of his is his trusted Manectric, which Shadow likes to joke about how similar the fur of the Manectric is to his own quills and teases Sonic about "playing favorites" as a result, which tends to get him strangely flustered and defensive.

Mini Fanfic #322: Tails' Big Sister (Super Smash Bros Ultimate X Sonic)
Tails: (A Bit Confused) You're.... really asking me if you want me to be your little brother?
Amy: (Nodded Happily) I know it's probably the most weirdest request from a girl like myself and all, but I thought about it for a while now and it would be sooooooo precious if you were my little brother~
Sonic: (Chuckles Lightly) That's cute and all, Ames. But don't you already have Cream as your little sister?
Amy: I can have more than one little sibling, Sonic dear. Besides, I already told Cream about it and she said she would love it if you would be her brother too, Tails.
Tails: (Aww~) (Smiles Softly) I wouldn't mind being Cream's older brother figure. Though...I kind of already started seeing you as my big sister, Amy.
Amy: ('Gasps') Really?
Tails: Yeah. I mean...We known each since we were a lot younger. So naturally, I would see you and Sonic as my two older siblings.
Amy: Oh my gosh, really?~ But wait....Why didn't you tell me you want me to be your big sister sooner?
Tails: (Rubbing the Back of his head back and forth with a bit of an Awkwardly Chuckle) I'd didn't want you to think I was weird. Pretty weak reason, but it's truth.
Amy: (Gently Grab Both Tails' hands) Tails, I could never think that way of you. I would've been so happy and honored to be an older sister to you if you'd asked me about sooner.
Sonic: (Smiles Softly) She's right, bro. There's nothing wrong with seeing someone you care about as family. I mean, take me for example. I'm raised by an Italian Plumber and a Princess. And I love every minute of it.
Mario: (From a Distance) Thanks, son!
Peach: (From a distance) We love you so much, Sonic Sweetie~
Sonic: I love you guys too! ('Sigh Happily') They're really good people.
Tails: Yeah....I think I get what you're saying right now. (Turns back to Any) Hey umm....Amy.
Amy: Hmm?
Tails: If it's still okay with you....(Smiles Brightly) I would be honored to be your Little Brother.
Amy: (Starts Squealing with Joy as she picks Tails up with a sisterly) Thank you, Thank you, Thank you sooo much, Tails~ I promise you won't regret it!
Tails: (Chuckles Lightly) Don't worry. I'm actually loving every minute of this.
Amy: (Gives Tails a kiss on the cheek) You're so sweet. We are going to have so much fun together as siblings! We can go on adventures, fight off badniks, go shopping-
Sonic: Why wait when we could go shopping right now.
Amy: (Smile Starts Growing Wider) This town has a mall?!
Sonic: (Chuckles Lightly at his Girlfriend's cute smile) Yep. Smash Town has almost everything, remember?
Amy: You're right! (Turns to Tails) Tails, can go shopping here together today, pleeeeeease?~
Tails: (Chuckles Once More) Sure thing, sis. It'll be nice to go out and explore the town once more.
Amy: Sweet!~ Okay, before we could even go anywhere, I need to call Cream about this. (Walks Away with a phone in her hand) She is going to flip when I tell her you want to be her big brother~
Tails: (Sighed Happily When he sees Amy Happily walks away) I'm gonna like having her as my big sis. Welp, Sonic, I think we should get ready-
Sonic: (Gently Grab Tails' arm) Wait, Tails. (Got up from the sofa) Can I talk to you for a sec?
Tails: (A bit Confused by Sonic's request) Oh umm yeah sure. What's wrong-
Sonic: (Pulls Tails into a loving hug)
Tails: (A bit Surprised by Sonic's sudden embrace) Sonic? What's wrong?
Sonic: Tails....Amy told me about the talk you and her had the other day.
Tails: "The Talk"-...............(Immediately Starts Frowning once he figured out what Sonic was talking about) Oh.....
Sonic: (Pulls away from Tails While holding on to his shoulders) Buddy.....I just wanna let you know that you could NEVER get in my way. Ever. You helped me a lot more than you thought you did and I couldn't be any more prouder of you than I already was before. You mean the world to me and...(Kiss the top of Tails' forehead) I love you so much, kiddo.
Tails: (Eyes Widened) Sonic...I...I....(Tears starts falling from his eyes) Me too.....(Hugs Sonic back) I love you too, Sonic. ('Sniff') Thank you so much for being my best friend.
Sonic: (Tear coming out of his eyes once he hugs Tails back with a Smile) Thank you for being my little brother, bud.
From a Distance.....
Amy: (Smiles Softly at the Brotherly Scene as Tears coming from her eyes) They are such great brothers....
Peach: ('Sniff') I know.... I'm so happy for my babieeeees!~ (Crying into Mario's arm)

Fallin down, little bit of chapter one.
Sonic started noticing certain things, as, how caring is Shadow, how pretty is Shadow, how HOT is Shadow… And, oh, would you look at that?
Apparently he has a crush.
Where Sonic is thirsty and Shadow doesn’t have a clue.
Sonic didn’t feel proud for how long it had took him to realize it, but damn it.
Why was Shadow so pretty?
He was no genius like Tails, or as good in social-handling like Amy, but he had always prided himself in not being as stupid nor as blind as many people thought he was. Sonic was quick, he had to be quick, and picking up things about the people around him was, and always had been, a must.
That being said…
He usually didn’t dwell too much in this kind of thing. Why would he, right? There usually were more pressing matters at hand, so, unless he was thinking about himself, because hell, self-love was important, all right? Or if he wasn’t picking someone to spend his night with, why waste the time? He could admit, quietly, certain facts about his friend’s appearance occasionally, more in a passing manner than actually focusing on it, so, him not realizing the pretty thing sitting right in front of him was a mistake he could be forgiven for, right?
It just…felt weird. Actually being aware of this, giving the time to think about his friends or rivals appearance, it…it wasn’t something he actually did, like, what good would that do for him?
It felt strange, the idea of going from “What the hell, Knuckles, can you please stop getting bulkier?” or “Fuck, Why does Amy looks so good when she is actually using her hammer for other things besides threatening me?” or “Oh Gaia Eggman please turn around! My eyes, my poor eyes!” and very little’s “Shit he/she/they is so cute” sprinkled around to actually acknowledging them, and checking out his friends.
But, there was that thing that just has to have happened to everyone, at least once, as Sonic refuses to be the only one that has gone through it. That one where you notice one thing, and then there is also a second thing, a surprising third one, and even a fourth! You just…keep finding things, little details that seemed inexistent before but that now that you can see them in action you just need to ask yourself if you are freaking dumb or just that blind.
Of course, he would like to announce that this doesn’t apply to socks, as he had been unpleased to discover.
Just, where the hell does his laundry thinks it is going? He needed his special socks, for Chaos sake! It wasn’t even that messy around… not anymore, at least.
Don’t laugh, don’t laugh, he is pretty aware of how weird his next statement was going to sound, most of the time he wanted to cringe himself while remembering it but the first thing he realized and did made him think more about this case… Shadow had a cute tail.
He hadn’t been checking the other`s butt, he can swear! It hadn’t been in purpose, in any way! They just, well, kind of had a very rough fall during a fight. He had been whining quietly, dizzy and disoriented even though the ebony`s body had kind of cushioned his landing, when he picked himself up and just, looked.
And looked for a bit more, staring and blinking in shock because.
Oh my goodness, oh, my, dear.
It was white fluff.
Actual, white fluffy fur in the underside of Shadow`s ebony tail. He could see how tiny smears of white and some red also showed up in his left inner thigh, in the underside of one knee, and, well, middle. Cute, little markings they were, almost completely lost unless you searched for them with a good eye.
It looked just so, well, fluffy, and was such a pretty cute thing his hands ached just to squeeze it or touch it and see if it was so soft as it looked.
Oh man.
The thing wiggled a little as the ebony stirred, and suddenly a breathless Sonic was on his back, Shadow reacting even on his confused daze and rolling them out of the way of an attack Sonic hadn’t…Hadn’t even noticed?
Oh, so that was why it perked up in the first place.
The movement wasn’t appreciated by his stomach, however, neither for his still aching head. Rolling in the ground and injuries where things that you really should try not to mesh.
Also, Shadow spines weren’t joking around.
“Uuugh. Let’s just-just…destroy that thing, all right? it really is on my list, now. For real this time! It’s going down, Totally…” Sonic plopped down on the ground, giving up in trying to stand. His arms felt too shaky, and his vision was slightly blurry. He groaned, lifting up his hands to rub at his face, fingers digging in his eye sockets and thumbs massaging the side of his face. Not cool. Totally, not cool.
“I can’t believe you fell on top of me as if I was some kind of damn cushion, and you still managed to dangerously hit your head, what the hell, Sonic?” When the only thing he got as answers were babbles and other non-intelligent sounds, Shadow sighed, feeling somewhat despaired towards his friend. he couldn’t even tell if the blue one was seriously going to faint or was just messing around! He glared. Yes, yes, not a new thing by any means, no surprise here. Being honest, by this point it was a trademark move on his part, and yet, what else could he do but lightly purse his lips (No, He wasn’t pouting. He doesn’t pout, Rouge.) and glare in displeasure? Well, thinking about it, there may be other thing. “Though, I don’t know… I wonder if the change is that big, actually...You are starting to sound the same as ever.”
“No sass, no sass, pleeease, I can’t take the sass now! Don’t you have mercy for a fallen man?”
“Nop.”
They did end up saving the day, a bit dizzy and injured, indeed, but it wasn’t that much of a hardship. Weirdly enough, it wasn’t Eggman who they were battling, but a mad barista that decided they had have enough bullshit and went mad set in destroying as many establishments of the cadena they worked for. And well, a few customers that were just disgustingand that Shadow may or may have not tripped on their way down the stairs.
It wasn’t like anyone would really dare to question him if he did.
Turns out, they could seriously kick some ass, and that brand was shit as fuck with a lot of greedy dickheads fat bastards commanding, as a fuming Shadow so lovingly put it.
Sonic always had been aware of how vicious he could get when mad, but boy. Sonic for a moment thought that Shadow was going to whip out a gun and join the lynx in the destroying spree. He had been absolutely livid, face made on stone and ruby eyes blazing in fury, with just the hint of bared fangs peeking from his lips.
He wasn’t…used to seeing the ebony like that, even with the years of fighting together they shared.
And Chaos send help, he turned then, piercing Sonic with his fiery stare as he asked what he was planning on doing, because, Sonic was going to do something, wasn’t he?
As he babbled for an answer, Shadow scowl deepened, almost becoming a snarl, crossing his arms over his chest which just made Sonic speak even quicker thanks to his nerves.
Why had he even asked, in the first place? Easy peasy. Sonic had more pull on the social media than Shadow, they weren’t…afraid of him, exactly, and kids loved him completely. Even if it was uncomfortable for the hybrid, it was going to be easier to actually gain something if they worked together… He just wished he didn’t actually needed to ask him… or you know… Hadn’t said the last part.
Shadow sometimes was such an idiot… had it been too impatient? Insecure?
Maybe threatening? Sonic was rambling, after all…Oh man, he really
hoped it hadn’t been insecure…
Once everything was contained and kind of wrapped out, Shadow actually sued that people and somehow managed to get Sonic to “start” a movement on the reds about their abuse towards their employees and their disgusting high priced products of low quality. Sonic was just the face of it, basically, as Shadow was the one really putting an order to everything and doing the researches and calls, together with the lawyers, even if most of the conversations were held by Sonic.
Soon enough, they had a big pile of evidences and incriminating stories, and people were actually paying attention and well, mad.

Unfamiliar (Ch. 12)
Unfamiliar - A Metamy Fanfic
First two chapters
Previous (Ch.11)
Ch. 12 - Everything Has Changed
There was a long tradition of wearing white during the vernal equinox. While Amy had always celebrated on her own, not having known anyone in the occult community personally, it didn’t stop her from wearing a floaty white gown to welcome the sunrise most years. And just her luck- it was meant to be warm the next day during the festival! She had just the dress.
She pulled a gauze sundress from her wardrobe, hanging it on the back of her door in preparation. She smoothed out its long, sheer sleeves and flowing skirt, admiring its pristine appearance. It had been purchased over a year earlier for a picnic that never happened- date plans that fell through or were possibly never really finalized. It was typically how it went with Sonic.
With a sigh, Amy set out the rest of her outfit and changed into loungewear for the evening. It wasn’t late, but she also wasn’t doing anything until morning- very early morning. She had already decided to welcome the sunrise on her own, but it was going to be a long day at the festival nonetheless.
The living room was empty when she stepped out. Metal was reading on the back porch when she slid through the doorway, and he acknowledged her with a quick glance and nod. Amy had handed him the 300-page novel about an hour earlier, but the page was already turned halfway through the book. She probably shouldn’t have been as impressed as she was, Amy thought, but it was still a sight. I thought I was a quick reader.
After a few minutes of breathing in the night air and listening to the quick page-turning behind her, Amy turned to Metal’s cross-legged figure on the floor of the deck. “Are you enjoying it?”
Metal nodded without returning her gaze. Another page turned.
Amy leaned on the deck railing, listening as distant waves crashed ashore. It was a pleasantly cool night- she wasn’t shivering without her blanket as she had been for months. She also welcomed the faint scent of rosemary that sprouted from her small garden, having smelled nothing but salt and snow since last autumn. Another crisp page turn.
“You don’t have to finish it in one sitting, you know.” No response. She faced him. “Do you wanna watch a movie with me?”
Metal held up a pointy index finger, signaling to give him a minute. Amy couldn’t help but snort at this gesture, knowing he’d seen someone do it on TV not long ago and was quick to pick up communication cues. There was another brief silence before Metal closed the book, having reached the end of the chapter.
“Do you like it so far?”
Metal gave her a pronounced nod. He was intrigued, reading about the long chain of events leading a triumphant hero home after a conquest overseas. The many adventures and accomplishments described in the writing were compelling, and Metal found himself engrossed in the power fantasy.
Amy nodded. “Thought so. It’s one of my favorites.”
The first time she’d said this, Metal was surprised- but after seeing another side of her at the arcade, he understood. The book’s protagonist was powerful, clever, determined... perhaps she related. Or maybe she was just a fantasy adventure buff; He appreciated the recommendation either way.
“So, about that movie-” Amy was interrupted by a loud ringtone coming from inside. She hurried back into her room to pick up the call.
Admittedly, a movie sounded pretty mundane after everything Metal had read that evening. Most of what he’d done in the last weeks had been mundane. It was strange, being directionless, just waiting for the opportunity to recover his memory. And then what? He was getting used to experiencing unfamiliar affairs; the novelty was wearing off. He could continue waiting for something big to happen- to remember his past life, or have an encounter with his creator- but he knew it ultimately wasn’t what was keeping him there. The real reason peeked through the back door and beckoned him in.
“Tails wants to talk to you,” Amy said as she handed him her device.
“Oh- hi Metal.” Tails still found a certain degree of awkwardness in speaking to the robot directly. He had hoped for Amy to interpret. Metal raised a hand in greeting from the other end. “Hey, would you wanna come over tomorrow so I can take a look at a few things?”
“Tails...” Amy scolded gently from off-screen.
“O-oh right. Uh… how are you?” After seeing Metal look off past the screen with a confused beep, Tails continued. “There’s this chat function if you need it- here.”
A speech bubble came on screen. Tails: Hi!
Metal was less worried about how to communicate than what he would actually say. How do people usually answer that question? He tapped gingerly at the screen.
Amy: Operating normally.
“Ah, that’s good.” There was a pause. Amy had insisted Tails talk to Metal personally, emphasizing that she thought it important to let him speak for himself. Manners and pleasantries were also mentioned, but Tails had a feeling Metal didn’t have a lot of those skills going for him either. “Yeah, I’m feeling a lot better myself…”
Metal didn’t have a lot of experience with conversations, but it did seem logical to repeat the question. He made a note to do this for next time. As for answering Tails, Metal held his hand in a thumbs-up on screen. The signal seemed to him quite versatile.
“Okay. Anyway, I was wondering if you could come over tomorrow for a checkup? And, maybe we can replace your, you know.”
It had been on Metal’s mind ever since he began to remember seemingly random moments from his past. And he would be in need of recharging and refueling soon, anyway. There was, however, a conflict- he looked up at Amy.
“Are you okay with going to Tails’ by yourself after you drop me off?” she asked.
Though he’d promised her a ride, Amy would be away for the afternoon either way. It didn’t seem to interfere with her plans, so he nodded at Tails and typed a short message.
Amy: 1:25 PM
“Oh,” Tails responded, “that’s… precise. Works for me, I guess.” Another uncomfortable pause. Usually one would continue the conversation in some way, at least acknowledging the agreement, but neither Tails nor Metal really understood what the other was looking for. “Okay, well, see you then. Bye.” Tails chuckled awkwardly before hanging up.
Amy clapped her hands together enthusiastically. “Looks like you have plans for tomorrow! Great.”
Metal wasn’t sure if he considered sitting idle in a lab “plans,” since Tails deactivated him last time and it wasn’t the most pleasant feeling. It was just simple maintenance in his eyes. He shrugged casually, placing the communicator aside.
Hands innocently clasped behind her back, Amy leaned in with her usual charming grin. “Still up for a movie?”
--------
Amy’s taste in films ws, evidently, not like that of her favorite novels. She shoved popcorn into her mouth absent-mindedly as they both sat watching from her couch, Metal’s  perpetually confused state causing him to shift focus from the television to Amy and back. “It’s a romantic comedy,” she’d told him. “The main characters are work rivals who really like each other but neither will admit it. It’s pretty funny!” It was no wonder neither of the characters admitted their affection for the other- they were constantly at odds, combative even. Amy swooned every time the two leads competed or argued over something petty and one became flustered.
Perhaps it was his limited understanding of relationships or romance but Metal had been under the impression that couples generally enjoyed one another’s company. But when the film’s protagonist decided to move far away and faced little opposition from the romantic interest, the duo seemed to compete over who could appear more cool and unphased. Just as Metal thought he could predict the ending, Amy chimed in. “Oh, here comes the grand gesture!” Sure enough, one of the characters stopped the other from leaving at the very last moment and feelings of affection were finally shared. “Aww,” he heard Amy sigh dreamily. Watching 86 minutes of tension between those two only to become a couple in the end was beyond vexing.
Amy stretched her arms as the credits rolled. “What did you think of the movie? Cute, right?”
Cute wasn’t the word he would have chosen. Did it really only take a single gesture for people to fall in love? No, they were hiding their affection- but why? He scratched at his forehead instead.
“Confused? Is it ‘cause they were rivals?” she chuckled. Metal bobbed his head around, thinking that was pretty obvious. “Love is complicated,” she stated as matter of fact. “Trust me…” Amy trailed off with a huff before hopping off the couch. “I’m not very sleepy, can we watch another?”
There wasn’t much point in disagreeing, so Amy quickly put on the next film and made herself a hot cup of camomile as the intro began. “This movie’s also a romance, but it’s more of a drama. It’s kind of a tear-jerker,” she giggled.
Did that mean she was going to cry? Why would she be so cheery about that? Whenever Metal thought he began to understand, some little, bewildering nuance made itself known. He would have been annoyed had Amy not plopped herself back down next to him with a flushed smile and excitement in her virescent eyes.
The leads in this film did look to be more interested in each other than the last. They’d spent some time together one spring before becoming separated, and the romantic interest then spent the rest of the movie trying to recapture the protagonists’ affections. It was incredibly long- much slower paced than the last. Amy began yawning about an hour in, and by the time the second act was wrapping up, she’d laid her head on the couch. “I’ll head to bed after this…” she started, but ended up fast asleep on a throw pillow just minutes later.
Metal couldn’t keep himself from glancing at Amy’s sleeping form every few minutes.  It became increasingly difficult to concentrate on the television the more he checked on Amy- noting her breathing pattern, heart rate, temperature. A bit cold. He pulled the blanket she kept draped on the back of the couch over her body, resting his head in his hand as he observed her. U nable to focus, he wondered why he was even still watching the film at that point and was about to switch it off when the current scene caught his eye. The couple must have reconciled, as they were now sitting together on a picnic blanket, one’s head laying in the other’s lap. The love interest’s fingers were buried tenderly in the protagonist’s hair as they enjoyed the scenery together.
He gazed back at Amy. She lay with her head inches from his lap, curled up comfortably in her warm blanket. Breathing steadily. Hair splayed out over her makeshift pillow. Metal had to stop himself as he lifted a hand in her direction, shaking his head and fixing his eyes back on the TV. The last scene had apparently been a flashback, as the leads were now much older. One sat at the other’s bedside in a hospital, recounting the memory. The protagonist died moments later. That was… certainly a dark turn. It must be what Amy meant when she mentioned the sorrowful theme.
Metal laid eyes on his friend once more as he contemplated the ending. At least, he attempted to. The scene of the lovers on a picnic blanket was the only thing capable of occupying his mind at that moment. It seemed so peaceful, so quiet. Metal found himself enjoying those tranquil moments during his own day; doubly so if Amy happened to be near. It was what one could call relaxing. And she did seem incredibly comfortable around him - as he did with her. As credits rolled on the screen, he leaned in a little closer to Amy, inching his hand toward her tousled hair. It looked soft and silk-like; inviting even. Would this wake her?
As gently as possible, Metal touched the end of Amy’s quills with his fingertips. They were smoothly brushed down, tapered bluntly to be minimally prickly. He’d often noticed her combing her hair so it laid sleekly out of the way, even seeing her trim the ends once. Though her quills couldn’t scratch or prick him, the mildly wooly texture felt pleasant in his hand. Metal’s fingers crawled up the length of her short bob and towards her scalp, where he combed down any stray pieces that had slipped out of the neatly styled locks in her sleep. Amy stirred slightly and Metal swore his engine stopped functioning for the split second he thought to have awoken her. To his relief, she just nuzzled her face into the cushion a bit before laying still once more.
Her bangs covered her sleeping eyes now. Metal brushed the short wisps away from her face and gazed at her reposeful expression. This is what regular people look like when they rest- tranquil, relaxed, with small, gentle movements. Still but alive. Metal supposed his own idle body was more of a lifeless prop and tried to imagine what actual sleep felt like as he separated thin strands of her hair, letting them glide between his fingers until the ends slid out of his grip and floated back down.
After some time, he checked his clock- it was just past 2:00 AM. Metal was unsure what it meant, but he’d understood Amy wanted to “welcome” the vernal sunrise. He doubted she’d hear the alarm from inside her room. Sunrise would occur at 7:34 AM. She took about 30 minutes to get ready, on average. A few more minutes to travel to the appropriate location. Setting his internal alarm for 6:15, Metal resolved to ensure Amy awoke in time for her strange ritual. He smoothed down any quills he’d misplaced on her head and switched off the TV. It was probably time for him to “rest” as well; but something about Amy sleeping at his side kept him lucid and he sat awake with his thoughts for hours, peeking over at her when she entered his mind. He did this every few minutes.
There was still so much for him to consider. He hadn’t remembered anything new since Amy recounted their last story back on Angel Island. She’d even told him about other times they encountered each other over the years, though they didn’t interact with one another directly for some time. It was fruitless. To Metal, it sounded as if he’d been dragged along on his creator’s various schemes only to lose every time- but none of it was familiar in his mind. If he could think freely, if he could crave autonomy, then why had he stayed with Eggman for so long? How did the man manage to keep Metal on his side for nearly ten years? There must have been something in his memory that could provide an answer. He needed to understand his past perspective.
Metal’s alarm was due to go off in another minute. It was the longest he’d sat on his own, just thinking- no, not on his own; with a friend by his side. Even separated by consciousness, Amy’s presence felt comforting and provided him some fortitude. Metal heard Amy’s alarm go off faintly from her room. He was pleased with himself for predicting just the time she planned to wake up. It didn’t seem to reach her ears, as she continued to snooze, so he tapped her on the shoulder softly until her eyes half-opened.
She grumbled groggily for a moment before shooting up unexpectedly. “Did I- is it the next day?” She looked around frantically. Metal chimed to get her attention and she whipped her head around as her face flushed with embarrassment. “Oh my gosh- did I fall asleep here? I’m so sorry!”
Metal watched her scramble out from under the blanket and grope under the couch for her missing slippers. He was waving his hands in front of him dismissively, but Amy was too panicked to notice. “I probably missed my alarm,” she thought aloud. He finally took hold of her shoulder to get her attention. Then he cocked his head in the direction of the digital clock beneath the TV. 6:17 AM. It was early.
“Oh, I still have time,” she exhaled. Wearing an apologetic smile, she turned back to her friend. “Thanks for waking me. Sorry I kinda took over your bed…” It wasn’t the most eloquent way to put it. Amy could feel her cheeks warming up again. “I should go get ready!”
Amy’s exit from the living room was never complete without tossing the blanket over the back of the couch, which she did more haphazardly than usual before slinking away into her bedroom. Metal sank back into the cushions, now staring out the back door into the predawn darkness. Well equipped to see through the night, he watched absent-mindedly as some palm trees swayed in the distance. The sunrise “woke” him daily, but he supposed this would be his first time observing it. He was sure he’d get a front row seat of the dusk horizon first…
In her room, Amy groomed her hair hastily, still red-faced and slightly shaken. Falling asleep on the couch when you live by yourself is one thing, but it was definitely rude with a roommate present. Wait, roommate? Was Metal living with her really becoming that official? She did her best to perish the thought as she combed her lashes with mascara.
Amy dug up an old wood-beaded necklace and tan belt from her wardrobe, accessorizing her otherwise monochromatic outfit. She slipped on her lightweight dress, tugging on the underskirt as she noticed it bunching in the mirror. She spent far too long adjusting the billowy sleeves and repositioning her belt, still a bit embarrassed to face her house guest. It was a quarter to seven now. Time to get outside and start the ritual before it became too late.
Pulling a small saddle bag over her head, Amy stepped out of the room quietly. “I’ll be back in a bit,” she said as she scuttled toward the back door. To her surprise, Metal was waiting for her just by the exit, leaning against the wall.
Amy floated into the room, looking ethereal in the airy ensemble. Certainly a change from her usual colorful garments and the bulky outerwear she sported to keep her warm. Metal tried to hide the strange delight he felt at the sight of her and casually pointed a thumb out toward the dark outdoors, offering her a ride. She lit up.
“Oh! Did you want to come?” Amy hadn’t expected him to join her, much less after worrying about the awkward situation she found herself in that morning. Finding that Metal didn’t seem to mind was a weight off. ”Well, it’s nothing fancy since I’d have to hike pretty far to get to where you can see eastward clearly. I usually just do it from the beach,” she shrugged, not wanting to get his hopes up. “It’s still nice to watch the sky, though.”
A small miscalculation. Metal assumed Amy would ask for a ride and already knew where they were going- it was obvious to him, anyway. The taller hills on the other side of the valley gave an unobstructed view of the eastern coastline, and there was still time to fly there. He shook his head, offering Amy his outstretched palm. She understood immediately.
“You wanna fly somewhere? Is it close?” He nodded. “Well…” Amy placed a hand over his, feeling herself blush for what seemed like the hundredth time that morning, this time backed by a much more pleasant warmth.
-----
Dawn’s first light illuminated the horizon in soft gray tones as the sun got ready to emerge. Amy’s pale figure practically glowed against the dim morning. She’d adorned herself with a light shawl against the cool air and every inch of her attire trailed behind in the gentle breeze. Metal watched as she wrote in a journal and took clockwise steps around an imaginary circle before sitting on her heels to meditate. It was an unusual ritual, the point of which was lost on him; but learning about the tradition was interesting to Metal, if only because it was so to Amy. After a few minutes, she invited him to sit with her and wait for sunrise.
Metal crossed his legs as he sat by her. He looked ahead into the horizon, but was still observing her rhythmic breathing and occasional soft sigh. “Thanks for bringing me here- it’s definitely a step up from sitting a few feet from the house,” she chuckled. “I usually do this alone. It’s kinda nice having someone to share it with, though.” He nodded at this with a soft, mechanical tone. She turned to him and continued. “The point of doing this isn’t just to watch the sunrise, you know. It’s supposed to help you reflect and get in touch with your surroundings. You’re pretty attentive already- maybe you can try seeing how many sounds you can hear.”
On the surface, it sounded silly; There was hardly a moment when Metal wasn’t contemplating something or listening to his surroundings. Yet he recalled the first time Amy advised him to reflect all those years ago, when the world was new to him. He was just as directionless again now. Back then, he’d ignored all the signs, all the guidance- and from what little he could remember, it didn’t appear to land him anywhere worthwhile. Metal glanced at Amy momentarily before concentrating fully on listening to what occurred around him. Despite the overall quiet, leaves rustled and birds chirped in the distance. The ocean swayed calmly below as little animals scuttled about high in the trees behind him. And then there was Amy- her steady respiration and the light billowing of her dress in the breeze. It was grounding, somehow- Metal’s mind was clear for what felt like the first time in his life.
“It’s rising.” After spending quite some time mostly listening, there was now something to see as well. The sun inched over the horizon, warming the sky with its red and orange light.
Amy pulled out her small journal and scribbled some notes before raising her face toward the rising sun. The sunrise was beautiful, but Metal found himself watching the scene through the reflection in Amy’s shimmering eyes rather than putting much attention to the sky.
“I’ve been thinking,” she finally faced him, “it feels like everything has changed lately. Having you here has been really… different. In a good way.” She paged back and forth through the book with her index finger absently. “But, change can be scary, sometimes. I remember one time...” Amy shook her head anxiously, staring straight out into the ocean. “Well, I guess you could say... you rebelled? Against Eggman.”
Metal listened to her with intrigue. He had hoped that the next thing she’d recount would lead to answers, but so far it was only causing further confusion. If he had rebelled against his master at some point, something in her nervous eyes told him it wasn’t for the better.
The colors up ahead shifted steadily from magenta and lilac to greyish blue as the sun made its way past the horizon. A bright golden column shone in the sea and as Amy squinted in the yellow light, she lowered her eyes to its watery reflection below. Just as she parted her lips to continue, a distinct ZIP came from behind the pair. Amy jerked her body around to look over the other side of the cliff. Metal’s engine was already whirring in annoyance as he predicted what came next.
The breeze turned to a whirlwind momentarily as Sonic skidded to a halt in front of Metal and Amy. The sudden gust sent her dress billowing wildly and the shawl she wore across her shoulders floated up and away, past the eastern edge of the cliff. “Woah!” Sonic jumped for the scarf but it was out of his reach before he could catch it. “Uh, oops,” he chuckled remorsefully.
Amy was about to bemoan the loss of her silky stole when another sudden gust blew back her hair and skirt once more. Metal propelled himself off the cliffside to go after it. Amy and Sonic watched as it drifted just out of Metal’s grasp a few times. Sonic received a dirty look from her when he appeared far too amused at the sight. Metal finally managed to catch it, returning it to its owner.
“Thanks, Metal,” Amy reached out and took hold of her scarf, which, to her dismay, made a harsh ripping sound as she pulled it back toward her. She gasped slightly when she realized it had become  unfortuitously caught in Metal’s claws when she attempted to take it back. A lamentful ring came from him in realization. “It’s okay! I can fix it when we get home, don’t worry.”  Amy gave her friend a reassuring smile, dawning the scarf over her shoulders once more and folding the tear out of sight. “Thank you, really.”
“Ah, sorry about that,” Sonic apologized from the sideline.
“It’s fine,” Amy exhaled. She didn’t want to sour the tranquility of the morning altogether by having a tantrum. All in all, it was still a nice surprise to see him. “You’re up early.”
Sonic rubbed the back of his head. “Yeah, couldn’t sleep.”
“It’s 7:30 in the morning. You really haven’t slept all night?”
“Nope,” he snickered. “Hey, am I interrupting? I need to talk to you.”
“Well,” Amy sighed, turning back to Metal. “Let’s talk later, okay?” If Sonic was looking for her, it must have been important.
Metal looked from Sonic back to Amy with crossed arms. He would have made some sassy response if she didn’t return his gaze so pleadingly, preemptively beaming with gratitude. With a nod, he offered her a hand getting up that she graciously accepted.
Sonic cleared his throat. “Sorry, mind if we get a little privacy? I’ll walk you home so we can chat.”
Even though she knew his intent wasn’t malicious, Amy still frowned at Sonic’s request in the wake of how rude it must have sounded to her friend. “Could you meet me back home, Metal?” He simply returned with a reluctant nod which she thanked him for. Amy waved him off as her and Sonic started down the hillside.
“You’re good with walking, right?” Sonic nodded toward Amy’s open footwear, which didn’t seem the most comfortable for a hike.
“I’ll be fine! Is everything okay?”
“Well…”
Their voices drifted away before Metal could catch anything significant; not that he was looking to eavesdrop. It would be at least a 30-minute hike down, then another few minutes before they arrived at the beach. Metal stared into the horizon for the better part of that time, trying desperately to remember something- anything- about what Amy had begun recounting. He’d rebelled. It was as Metal suspected: he hadn’t remained completely loyal all those years. Wasn’t it the same as what he was doing now? Why hadn’t Amy said anything earlier? Metal raised his palm to eye-level, examining his sharp fingers and wondering uneasily what suffering came at those cold hands.

Prompt:
“Still working on that observatory, eh, Tails?”
As Tails was about to hammer in on his half-finished ‘dome-effect’ he wanted for his upper-level room, he blinked a moment at the familiar voice and excitedly looked down.
“Amy!”
“The one and only.” She winked, grinning widely.
He had managed to get half the curve of the wall done, a dark, steel grey for it’s base color as it held a half-finished walled hole where the large glass would be for viewing the stars. He would insert a self-made telescope between there, and design a way to bring the view as though a holographic light performance right into his ‘black room’ when he wanted to personally ‘sit among the stars’.
“Permission to come aboard, captain?” Amy joked, placing a hand on the ladder and saluting him.
Tails’s twin namesakes wagged in joy, smiling and closing his eyes as he nodded, “Permission always granted! B-but be careful of the rickety-”
“Ah!” the ladder seemed to tilt as a piece of metal began to bend.
“Amy!” he was about to fly down but she summoned her hammer, wedging it into the place where the metal was bending.
“Phew~” she sighed out in relief, having some sweat trickle down the side of her face before climbing up again.
She removed her hammer and used it to place the metal back into the proper alignment again. “You might have given me permission, but did you consult your ship on that decision?”
The two laughed.
“Sorry about that. Everything is still a work in progress, and honestly, it’s kinda revolutionary if this actually works.” Tails scratched behind his head, then explained how new this technology and optical illusion trick really was.
“Yeah,... kinda amazing, Tails.” Amy admired the work already done to give Tails a space to mediate and enjoy the nature of wonderful night sky above him. “I remember when I first met you, that the dark used to be such a scary thing for ya.” She kid, looking to him kindly but nudging him with a tease.
He blushed slightly, looking away, “Well... then you and Sonic showed me how beautiful it was! A-an-and besides that, I’m too old for a night light.” he tried to seem so mature... but that pout made it obvious he just didn’t want to be looked down upon.
“Right. So a big sky-show isn’t the same thing?” She looked over to see he had already marked a place with some cushions, a reading-outlet to the side of the wall imbedded in with a shelf for the books, and a big fuzzy blanket. The tape read: Second Bed.
It all made her smile, “What a lovely little R&R space...” she lowered her eyes, wondering if he still got lonely like she did... and this was his way of coping.
He lived far away from the city, and although Amy lived down a winding road, she would visit the city often enough for groceries and other fun shopping sprees.
What did boys do to occupy their time?
“Heh, I wouldn’t say a 3D projected model of a precisely positioned magnifying glass and hyperized telescope make for a sky-light.” he tried to defend himself, and it was rather cute to Amy.
“Well, I bet Sonic’ll love to bunk here more often.”
The tone suddenly shifted as Amy and Tails both looked down, away from the other.
“Have you... heard from him lately?” Amy asked, almost worried that she already knew the answer to that question.
“No.” Tails sighed out, before dramatically leaning back and letting his head fall back on his shoulders, “Not since Eggman last showed up.”
“Yeah... he’s been rushing off more and more lately on some daring-dos that apparently don’t require any of us to come along...”
There was a quiet somberness...
“Yeahhhh...” Tails once again leaned properly back in place and dipped his head, scratching it softly...
He seemed friend-sick... and as Amy observed him more, he even looked starved for conversation.
“Hmph!” She puffed up the side of her cheek, “Well, we’ll have to give him the ol’silent treatment when he gets back this time too! Serve him right for all those times he’s left us behind on all the fun!” Amy rambled off, but Tails perked up a bit, looking over to her with a slight turn of his lowered head.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah! Just you wait! He’ll come back ready to tell us all his cool stunts on his new latest adventure, and we’ll be just chatting it up about your awesome star project!” She posed with her arm out and her hand upon her muscle, as though Rosy the Riveter. “That means we should wrap this little project of love up and really see what it’s made of!”
“Y-you mean it?” Tails looked thrilled by her offer. “I-I mean, if it’s not too much trouble... I could use your hammer for a few things.” He looked down at the metal that had bent out of place. “You’re strong arm means I could patch the rest of this in one hammer hit! It’ll remain sturdy if you’re strength! Ah...! Sorry!” he looked back over and saw Amy frowning embarrassedly, pushing her fingers together. He wagged his arms out to the side of her, apologetically. “I forgot... how you sometimes take the praise for your strength a little...” he felt awkward now, seeing her begin her usual spiel.
“But I’m... elegant... A-and lady-like when I do it... right?” She looked over to him as though pleading for his approval.
“O-O-of course, you are! I-I even remember Sonic saying something about it! Your hammer is super cute and only adds to your-! Uhh... c-charms!” Tails bundled his fists up and started shaking them profusely around, not sure how to convince her a ‘giant hammer’ was somehow ‘girlish’ but he did his best. “And besides, I don’t care what anyone else says, Amy! You’re super useful thanks to your strength! Just like I am with my brains.”
He was so determined to succeed in cheering her up that Amy couldn’t bear to disappoint him.
She took in a deep breath and got over herself, straightening up. “Yeah... well, I have to be strong, to look after and protect you and the others.” She ruffled up his hair and he laughed lightly, slightly moving away from her touch as a brother would to his older sister.
“I’m sorry that you’re sensitive to that.” He admitted, “You really are super cool when you hit a robot miles away!”
She flinched.
“I-I-I meant that in a good way!” he shook his hands out again, “Honest!”
Amy just laughed, “I can cook too, you know. Why don’t we finish building this thing and then I’ll make us something good to eat. We can turn it off with some smores and maybe crackers or something too later tonight!” Amy’s usual optimism was restored and Tails immediately caught on to it’s wave.
“Woah! You mean it! T-that could take all day...” His ears lowered just slightly.
“Pfft!” Amy turned with a proud look upon her face, placing one hand to her hip as she sat off the edge with him and then slammed her hand to the top of his head again, making him flatten slightly as he was sitting slightly on his knees. He looked uncomfortable, like her force had made him do an unwilling ‘split’ sort of with his knees being parted and he looked as though in strained pain. “Think nothing of it, Tails! As you said before, my hammer strikes are good on one blow! We’ll have this done in no time, so..? Can I stay the night?”
He continued to flinch and twitch in the pain, “S-sur-sure, I-I-I don’t mind... mmm...” he had a small tear forming at the right of his eye.
A few hours passed as the two worked hard, and finally, the dome was done and the telescope he had already completed for the room was successfully moved up to the upper-room... with a lot of back-strain and power from the two working together. Tails had to really test his twin-propelling tails’s weight limit on how fast they could twirl to lift something, and Amy’s powerful arms and back were put to their ultimate test as well!
But somehow, the two worked great together, though bickered and taunted the other at times...
“You can fly higher than that, Tails!”, “D-don’t act like I’m the only one lifting my weight here!”, “AH! What is that supposed to mean!? I’m as light as a feather! And this is... nothing... compared... to what I can lift!”, “Then push harder!”, “You fly harder!”, They both ‘ggrr’d and finally got the massive telescope up that ladder...
When everything was set up, Amy put on a movie for Tails to rest and started cooking up some dinner. She wanted to leave room for the late-night snacks, and coming back in, noticed Tails wasn’t watching the television.
“Huh?” She looked up the ladder to the room and smiled, seeing the computer light on as he must have been programming the telescope and other functions. “He works so hard... he must be excited to show it off to Sonic.” she felt a slight bit of envy. She sighed, “Not like girls and guys can have that strong of a bond... botherhood and sisterhoods are really exclusive, huh? she frowned, not liking the idea that she could never be as close to Sonic or Tails as the other was with them.
She called down Tails though, and they had a nice dinner together, complimenting their success as Tails hoped it would all work, but Amy told him not to worry.
“You’re incredibly good at designing these technological masterpieces, Tails.” Amy scolded him for about to open his mouth to answer with food in it, and seeing her hand raised and her eyes closed while one opened slightly, he chewed and swallowed before continuing.
“W-well, that doesn’t mean that their isn’t going to be some error on my part involved...”
“I’m sure Sonic will love it. I know I’m excited to see it.” She picked up his finished plate, going to wash them and as she removed her apron...
“Sonic? I was building this for us to view it together, tonight.”
Her face shot up, touched.
Her heart seemed to rise up as though being elevated to a status it thought unattainable.
“R-really?” She always had felt a distance between the boys, and found it just seemed easier and less forced when interacting with Cream... but Cream was still so young too. She loved picking flowers! Don’t get her wrong! She had just gotten really, really good at making flower crowns for so... long...
She placed her apron that she had borrowed from him down, planning to wash it if needs be as well, but turned back to Tails.
He didn’t seem to notice how much that meant to her, already wiping his hands on his white fluff like he would if he was greased up in oil or gunk stains from working on his pet-projects like the X-Tornado and this Observatory. She puffed up her cheek, “I still need to teach you proper manners, huh?” she whispered under her breath, but smiled and touched her heart.
He was already racing up the ladder, and she immediately went into mother mode.
“Ah! Tails! D-don’t move so fast after eating!” she reached a hand up but he called down to her.
“Bring up the treats! I think it’s loaded all the settings in by now! ... Yeah! Yeah it has!”
His excited voice sprang her into an excitement, “W-well, hold on! I’m coming!” It was like he just called out that the fireworks were gonna start...
She rushed through the cleaning and threw the plates into the dishwater, a little rougher than she usually would like to and washed herself up before charging up the ladder. “Don’t let it start without me!”
“Hurry!” Tails called, and she immediately started to leap passed rings on the ladder to just reach out and jump pass a few steps.
“I’m here!” her quills looked a mess as she clung to the edge of the room, Tails rushing over and helping her up as she huffed and puffed in her strain to get there in time.
“Haha, and you tell me not to rush.” He teased her back.
“Hmph.” she blew up her bottom bang of the three quills on her forehead and then smiled to him, cheekily, “If I get stomach cramps, I’m blaming you!”
“Over here!” He laughed a moment at her response but was too excited to show her what he had set up.
“Ah... Tails...” Amy felt so important and loved then, seeing he had taken the large fuzzy blanket and got in it, opening a space for her to join him.
“S-sorry, is this too... um... close?” He squinted an eye, lowering his arm that was gesturing for her to intimately cuddle up within it and watch the show together.
She shook her head, holding back tears and hoping to not confuse him. “Absolutely! I-I mean, it’s perfect! Don’t change a thing!” she crawled down and got into the blanket, taking the other side as she felt Tails bouncing in his seat.
“Okay, good. Three... two... one... Ehem,” he cleared his throat, like a child about to press ‘liftoff’ on a rocket. “Computer! Activate Spatial Definity Mock 5 Advanced Overhead Project 3.2.7.”
Amy blinked her eyes rapidly at such a long line...
“What? You couldn’t have called it, Sky-light?” she teased again, “For nightlight?”
“Quit it...” He nudged her lightly, embarrassed she kept teasing him on that one. “It sounds cooler this way... and it reminds me how long it took to set up the program and make it run right. I haven’t tested this final version yet, so SDM5AOP 3.2.7 is a perfect name for-!”
“O-okay, as long as it makes sense to you.” she decided not to question it.
The whirling of a computer was heard and the two waited anxiously for the results...
“It has to take a second to go through all it’s processing. Lots of... kinda like doors to hurdle through and collect data for.” He explained.
“...Do you... wish Sonic were here instead of me?” she looked away from him for a moment. “I mean... not that you would have a preference b-b-but...” she thought this was a bad, killing the mood he had tried to set up and wish she didn’t say anything. “Nevermind.”
“No, I think you’ll appreciate it more than he will.”
She felt that ranking skyrocket again, as though her tiny significance in life was suddenly bumped up again to a higher sphere of importance in this little fox boy’s life.
“W-... What makes you say that?” she was trying so hard to hide the sparkles in her eyes, but her quivering voice gave away how happy she was to hear that. No, not happy, overjoyed to know she was considered such a special friend to him.
“You actually helped me complete it!” He spread his arms out as the first little light formed in the blackened room.
“Ah!” Amy saw it first, marveling as it faded and then grew brighter and brighter to show the actual dimensions of the star that was currently in the sky, or at least, the radiance of it.
She marveled as he continued to talk, not noticing multiple other little constellations starting to form over his literal head and scattered all throughout the room. Accurate and pronounced, their distance was a miniature diorama of the actual space of the universe...
“I knew you’d want to see it... I’m sure he would too, but Sonic would rather be in the stars then just viewing them... though he does all the time. Heh, I guess you’ll be able to brag about how you were the first to see it! I-if it works or not... It’s still a longshot, s-so... don’t get your hopes up too hig-”
His face was yanked towards the direction of the star, then Amy started shaking his arm. “Ah-AH-AHHHH!!!” she freaked out as a very distinct cosmic entity was defined in the space.
“AH-! AHHH!! IT ACTUALLY WORKS!” Tails flipped out as they both cried out-
“EARTH!”
Then, one after another...
“The Milky Way!”, “It’s the galaxy from Chris’s world... and look! Here’s our constellations!”, “Ohhh! It’s our solar system! Ahhh! It’s so bright!”
“...Do you think Cosmos seeds found good land to grow on?”
The two suddenly stopped gawking...
Amy couldn’t even look to him, and him the same.
Instead, she scooted closer to him in the blanket, felt his tails solemnly wrap around her for support and comfort, and placed her arm to his opposite shoulder to pull him into the gap of her neck.
He laid his head on her shoulder, tearing up.
“Is... is that why you made all of this?” Amy’s heart tugged on her vocal chords, making them choke slightly.
“...Yeah.” he admitted. “If this was Sonic, I don’t think he’d be willing to talk about it... not like you.” he looked down a moment.
“No, don’t look down.” Amy’s voice plucked up an octave. “Look at your amazing work, Tails. Look at how vast... how beautiful the universe is... I’m sure you’ll see evidence of Cosmo’s seed blooming all over the place. You know why?”
She ducked her gaze down slightly, moving her head to make sure she didn’t obstruct his view.
He smiled lightly through his tears.
“Because life never quits, that’s why!” She pulled him into a half-hug and continued to snuggle up in the blanket. “Hehe, because Cosmo would want you to look at these stars and know that she’s everywhere. Smiling just as brightly as any of these ol’stars and wishing you the best forever!”
She felt his shoulders bounce a little...
She knew Sonic would have done an alright job if he were here too, but...
She was so glad...
Holding him and tucking him in better into the blanket...
That she was the one he shared this whole project with.
That she was the one... who could dry his tears tonight.
-Author: And now I cry, wow, hands slapped together in a prayer really did wonders for myself in this prompt, how about you? lolol To those of you who actually did the gesture and wished me the best, this one’s for you.

i’ll be the light and lead you home when there’s nowhere left to go
hireath (n); a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past
for @heartonfirewrites. [ao3]
Being with Karen – it’s one of the easiest things that Frank has ever done.
Even before he put down the vest and showed up at her place for good – because there was no turning back for either of them after that – he had known. It was part of what kept him away for so long.
Being with Karen was everything right, and good, and Frank hadn’t believed in a long, long time that those things should even be possible for him. That they could be what he deserved.
He only half-believes it even now. But if he’s going to hell for letting himself have this, then he might as well make the most of this one small corner of light and good things until then.
Still, they have their not-so-good days. The days that try to drag them back into those dark, buried places of their past, before they had this. Before they found something else that they could not afford to lose.
There’s the date of every funeral they’ve ever been to, every loved one they’ve had to bury. There are other kinds of anniversaries, too. Birthdays. Christmas. The day Frank got married. But they all carry with them the same kind of heaviness. They all came to an end the same way.
There are more of these kinds of days than either of them would like to count – days that feel like they belong to some other life, but will never stop haunting them in the one they’re living now.
Each one comes with a static kind of silence around it.
They have their own ways of dealing. Frank rises even earlier than usual and goes for a run down the Hudson. He runs until his whole body might be on fire, and then he just keeps on going. Karen throws herself into her work; if she’s not out chasing leads, she’s hunkered down at her computer, fingers flying over the keys.
It takes some navigating, but they’ve learned how to be there for each other without overstepping – how to be gentle with all that silence, how to cradle it close without it breaking. How to let the silence know that it is not alone.
Karen has coffee waiting for him after his long morning runs – black, and scalding, just the way he likes it. She doesn’t tease him for it like she would on any other day, and every kiss that he gives her tastes just a touch bittersweet.
Frank, on his part, cleans their apartment, cooks her dinner. She’s not great at remembering to feed herself on a regular day, so on the hard ones in particular he makes sure the table she’s working at is well-stocked with actual food.
They come back to each other in the twilight hours. Before they had this, their tomorrows had always been more of the same, but now, at least – now, their tomorrows actually mean something again.
Their own birthdays are on the quieter side too, but it’s nice. It’s soft. It’s them.
Nothing to fuss about, just the two of them curled up on the couch and, for once, not letting the rest of the world have any say in the matter. Frank takes the day off of work, and per Karen’s request stows her phone and computer some place she won’t think to find.
They’ve always promised each other no parties – and truly, a party is not what Karen has in mind when she first approaches Curtis for something small, something quiet, this year. She’d gotten the okay from Frank to include him, and there’s a bottle of whiskey she’s stashed in the cabinet just for the occasion.
But then Curt had asked if he could bring a mutual friend, which is how Dinah winds up greeting a slightly startled Frank at the door with wine and a meat-and-cheese platter. And then the postcard to Florida that Karen had mailed months ago gets returned to the sender – hand-delivered by a tanned and beaming Amy, who also brought a pink plastic flamingo as a “housewarming” gift, and a genuinely awful Hawaiian print shirt for Frank.
“I’m never going to wear that,” says Frank before enveloping her in a tight hug.
Karen wants to ask him if this is okay – really, she couldn’t have accounted for all of this happening – but then Frank looks over at her with shining eyes, and her chest could crack open from all the love she sees in them.
“Any more surprises I should know about?” he asks her, voice gruff as he steals her into their room for a kiss.
Karen puts a hand on his chest, and says in a half-apologetic tone, “I might have texted the Liebermans last week.”
“Did you, now.” He chuckles under his breath.
“I didn’t mention your birthday, but they seem like the type to put two and two together.”
“Unbelievable,” says Frank with a shake of his head. “How’d you even – never mind.” He kisses her again, lacing their fingers together before rejoining the others.
David and Sarah show up with their kids half an hour later.
It should feel like a squeeze – it was a small apartment even before Frank moved in with her – but instead, the only thing it feels is right, having the space filled with the warmth of everyone’s laughter, and the look on Frank’s face, every time their eyes meet and he breaks out into another smile.
So when Karen’s birthday comes around, Frank finds himself anxious about getting it right, in a way that he hasn’t before. In spite of what he’d told her he wanted for his own birthday, she’d done him one even better, and it was, hands down, one of the best birthdays he’d had in a long, long while.
He wants that for her, too. After all the shit that she’s gone through, after being the one there for him, the least he could do is make this day a really damn good one for her.
“This is exactly why we made those rules,” Karen has to remind him, when he ends up ruining the French toast in his agitation. He scowls at the remains before tipping them into the trash.
“Yeah? Rules say something about not being able to make my girl some goddamn toast?” Frank groans, reaching his hand out to hers and tugging her up against his side.
“No,” says Karen, tilting her head at him with a smile. “Rules say not to worry too much if you burn it.”
“I’ll try to remember that for next time.” He wraps his other arm around her, nudging their foreheads together. “Happy birthday, Karen.” He kisses her soft and slow, and she makes a small humming sound when they part.
Her hand comes up to touch his cheek. “Hey,” she says. “This is all I want, Frank.”
He sighs, head dropping down to his chest for a moment. She cups his face in both her hands, until he’s finally looking back up at her.
“Okay?” she says.
“Okay,” he says, and means it.
He ends up taking her to a little corner café for breakfast instead. Afterward, they stroll hand-in-hand down by the river before checking out one of the animal shelters nearby. They almost walk out with a dog, and make a pact to come back after they’ve found a bigger place to live next year.
They meet Nelson and Murdock for a late lunch on one of the piers, and by then Frank’s feeling fully at ease. He even has a good time with them. He finds Nelson amusing, not that he’d ever admit it, and even Murdock’s grown on him a little over the years.
Karen looks happy. And that’s all that really matters to him.
Frank’s at the bar getting them another round of beers when he hears the phone ring. Karen’s. He recognizes the ring tone. But he doesn’t think anything of it until he’s turning around with their drinks, and he sees the look on her face as she stares down at the screen.
Shit.
Karen excuses herself from the table, and makes her way down toward the water until she’s just out of earshot. Frank sets the tray down, watching her back tense as she talks, and nods with a pained kind of smile that breaks his fucking heart.
He should’ve seen this coming.
There’s a reason why Frank stashes her phone out of sight every year. It’s a reminder of the people who don’t call on their birthdays – the people who can’t, and the people who won’t. Or the people who send one lousy text a week late, and can’t be bothered to answer when she tries calling back.
Murdock’s face is expressionless, but Frank knows he’s listening in on the other line.
“That her piece of shit dad, isn’t it.” His hands are fisted so tight that it feels like the only way he can loosen them up is to just fucking hit something.
Murdock remains silent, which Frank takes as confirmation enough.
He stalks over to Karen in time to hear the tail end of her conversation.
“Sure, Dad,” she’s saying, with that same strained smile that makes it look like she’s halfway to bursting in tears. “I can make a few phone calls, see what I can do.”
Frank stops abruptly in front of her, his whole body seething. Is he seriously calling to ask for a favor? The shitbag even remember it’s her goddamn birthday today?
“Give me the phone.”
Karen holds out a placating hand, eyes steady on his. They’re watering slightly, but she musters up a small, genuine smile for him. He steps closer, swaying forward a little. His vision’s gone a little blurry too.
“C’mon, Karen. Let me talk to him.”
“Sure thing, Dad,” she says into the phone, and he hates how small that man makes her sound, how young and just – so fucking delicate, like the wrong word from him might break her. Like the right one could make some part of her whole again.
“Karen…” If he could just give him a piece of his mind—
“Bye.” She hangs up, and stares at the phone until the screen blanks out. She heaves a deep, shaky breath, looks over the railing, and then, almost in slow motion, lets go of the phone in her hand. They watch it tumble down to the water, where it slips out of sight with a splash that probably only Murdock could hear.
“Guess you won’t be able to make those calls after all,” says Frank after a moment, and it startles a watery laugh out of her, eyes bright as she looks at him with more gratitude than he’ll ever deserve.
“Not today,” she says, pressing the heel of her hand to one cheek and swiping away the moisture there.
“Not today,” Frank agrees, voice low and firm and final. But then she’s looking back out at the water, something distant clouding up her expression, and he feels a fresh, hot guilt churning around inside his stomach. “I’m sorry, Karen. I—”
She turns and slips her arms around him, burying her face into his shoulder.
He wraps her up tight, cradling the back of her neck and making soft shushing sounds to her as she starts to cry.
They’re curled up on the couch later that night. Frank’s not much of a baker, but he’d tried his hand at a cake, which hadn’t turned out nearly so bad as the French toast from that morning. What’s left of the cake now is on the coffee table in front of them, plus a stray crumb or two that he thumbs away from Karen’s bottom lip before planting a couple of kisses there.
“Thank you,” she tells him, and he knows she’s not just talking about cake.
Frank shakes his head. “I didn’t…”
“Stop.” She puts a hand on his mouth. He noses a kiss to the pad of her finger. Her eyes are still red-rimmed from earlier, but she hasn’t shed a tear since. He thinks she’s one of the strongest people he’s ever known. “You did,” she tells him. “You do.”
“Not enough.”
“It’s everything.” She snuggles up close. “And what I say goes. Don’t forget, it is still my birthday for another twenty-three minutes.”
He breathes out a laugh in her hair. “And after?”
“After,” she says simply, “is another tomorrow with you.”
His throat closes up, and it’s all he can do to just kiss her again for a moment.
He holds her gaze when they part, finger stroking over her cheekbone. “You’re everything, to me. You got that?”
Karen bites back a smile. “I think I have some idea.”
And for the next twenty-three minutes and counting, he proceeds to make doubly sure that she does.

Unexpected Encounters. Chapter 8: The Search (Part 1)
A new day has begun in Japan. The inhabitants of Zootopia, Japan and Mobius were once again meeting in the same apartment today.
"Well, we have already decided how the groups are separated, as Retsuko, Fenneko, Haida, Ookami, Washimi and Gori are from this city, each of you will divide into group of two, and you will be accompanied by Nick, Judy and Finnick" Sonic said.
"Why should we be accompanied by them, can I do things alone?" Finnick said.
"Come on Finnick, you've never been to this country, much less outside of Zootopia," Nick said.
"Yeah, but I can work alone, that's no problem for me, so we could cover more ground that way," Finnick said.
"Are you sure?" Tails asked.
"Yes. 100 percent," Finnick replied.
"Well OK. That could be beneficial to us," Knuckles said.
"Well, to start: Nick, Haida and Ookami will go to the north of the city" said Sonic.
"Judy, Retsuko and Fenneko will go south," Amy said.
"Washimi and Gori will go east" said Cosmo.
"And finally Finnick will go west," Tikal said.
"While that happens, Jack will stay with us while we try to find out more about the whereabouts of the master emeralds and the missing chaos emeralds" said Tails
"While you children will be in the care of our children so that they are safe from any danger, so they will not have to worry about them" said Sonic.
They all nodded their heads.
"By the way, before you go have this" Tails held up a tray that had a large number of clocks on them.
"What are they?" Ookami asked.
"They are communicators. I created them so they can communicate with us, I made them look like watches so they go unnoticed. We have ours too," Tails replied.
Sonic, Amy, Tails, Cosmo, Knuckles, Tikal, Speed, Flora, Alex, Locke II and Pachacamac II raised their arms to reveal their wrists where their own communicators were.
The people of Zootopia and Japan had their own communicators and put them on, including the children.
"Okay. These communicators have both the option of speaking and the option of danger. When you need to communicate with someone, press the button on the right and then mention on behalf of who you want to speak to. Pressing the button on the left will send us a signal to warn us if there are problems with Eggman or some of the robots, so we will come to your aid. If another type of problem occurs that does not involve Eggman still call us to help with anything." Tails told them explaining the functionality of the communicators.
"That's it?" Fenneko asked.
"Almost. We discovered that the beings who were brought to this universe or to this city because of chaos control ended up absorbing into their bodies some of the chaos energy, which is inactive within them, but these communicators can capture that energy when they are close to you" said Tails.
"Well that will make things easier" said Gori.
"Well, with this, all you need to know is ready. Meet us again here at 4:00 PM," Knuckles said.
They all nodded and left.
Retsuko, Fenneko and Judy were in the south of the city, they had just got off the subway and was walking random streets trying to find whoever they had to find. Easier said than done, though, since they didn't even know who to look for in the first place. While looking they decided to have a conversation. Judy took advantage and told Retsuko and Fenneko how she met Nick and Finnick and the first big mission that she solved with Nick's help.
"I see that you experienced a dangerous situation" said Fenneko.
"It was, these days I miss solving cases like that. But with two children at home I cannot expose myself to so many dangers. Although it was not the only case that I solved of that magnitude "said Judy.
"Was there another?" Retsuko asked.
"Yes, when Nick and I were already working together in the police station, the chief entrusted us that we had to work together with Jack who had assigned a mission in which would have to work with the Zootopia police department to catch a criminal who was hidden in the city. At first Jack was quite distant with us, and he didn't talk to us unless it was something to do with the mission. After we asked Finnick to help him work as an undercover agent and find information on the criminal. When he found out and fled the city, the four of us went after him. When we cornered him, there was an exchange of gunfire where Jack was wounded. Nick and I got him out of the place while Finnick for his part managed to take care of the criminal" Judy replied.
"Wow, I guess that was a critical moment for everyone," Retsuko said.
"And how did Jack recover and become closer to you?" Asked Fenneko.
"While Jack recovered he explained to us that the reason he was distant with us was because in the past he carried out various missions with other companions with whom he became good friends, but he was always unlucky that each time that one died in the line of duty, Jack blamed himself for it. That was why he promised himself not to have friends and only to have professional relationships. After learning about it, we convinced him that it was not good to be alone, and that if his companions were here they would be disappointed in the lonely lifestyle that he decided to take. Jack fell silent and let several tears escape from his eyes. Nick, Finnick, and I could tell from his expression that it was the first time he'd cried in years. I gave him a hug to comfort him, he reciprocated it and it was clear that he really needed comfort at that time. After that event, Jack decided to return to live in Zootopia, since until that moment he lived in the agency. And he became a close friend of the three of us," Judy replied.
"At least everything ended well in the end," Retsuko said.
Suddenly the conversation was interrupted when their communicators began to blink, they looked to see that they were not calls or signals from Eggman. Which means that they are close to those who are searching. But as the place was packed with various city dwellers it would be difficult to locate them.
They were so distracted watching the communicator that they ended up accidentally crashing with two beings that were walking in the opposite direction. All three fell to the ground.
"You are fine," said a male voice.
"If we're okay" Retsuko replied.
When the rabbit, the red panda and the fennec looked up, they saw two lynxes in front of them. One was taller than them, almost the height of Nick, Haida, and Ookami. The other was shorter than the first, but taller than Judy.
The tallest lynx was white with red stripes on the ears, on the arms, on the lower part of the eyes, on the tail and on the chin. The fur on either side of his jaw looked like a short beard. He had quite thick black eyebrows. The pupils of his eyes were yellow while the irises were brown. His nose was red. The tip of her tail was hairy. His body was quite muscular build. He wore a sleeveless black T-shirt, black pants with a black belt, and brown boots.
The shortest lynx was yellow with brown stripes on the ears, arms, and tail. He had quite thick brown eyebrows. The pupils of his eyes were white while the irises were green. His nose was deep pink. The tip of his tail was hairy. Unlike the other lynx, his build was slightly slimmer. He wore an orange t-shirt with blue short sleeves, blue pants with a black belt, brown gloves, brown boots and a flat brown hat with her ears poking out. On his back he carried what appeared to be a silver-colored backpack, which strangely looked metallic.
"Let us help you" said the white lynx holding out his hand.
The yellow lynx also held out command of him to help them.
Retsuko and Fenneko got up with the help of the taller lynx, while Judy got up with the help of the shorter lynx.
"Thank you very much" all three said at the same time.
"You're welcome," said the shorter lynx.
"I guess they were worried about something they didn't see where they were walking" said the taller lynx.
"Eh well, we were looking for someone, but we don't know who he is exactly," Fenneko said.
"And how do you know who you are looking for?" the taller lynx asked.
"It's complicated, I can only say that they are not from here, but we know that they have been in this city for 3 months after a strange event happened," said Judy.
"You mean a white light that enveloped the whole place and that when it disappeared we ended up in this city" said the shorter lynx.
The rabbit, the red panda and the fennec were surprised to hear that.
"Yes exactly," Retsuko said.
"Did that happen to you too?" the two lynxes asked at the same time.
"Not us, but who sent us to look for you, yes" Fenneko replied.
"If you don't mind, we could ask you a few questions about what happened to you," Judy said.
"Of course, but not here. Let's go to another place not so crowded" said the tallest lynx.
While the tallest lynx was with the three girls, the shortest lynx was a little further behind when suddenly a voice began to speak to him.
"You're sure we should trust them," said the backpack on his back that turned out to be actually a small green-eyed robot, who contracted his limbs to pass like a backpack.
"Of course, they know those who can help us get back to our planet" said the shorter lynx.
Finally they came to a small cafeteria and ordered some coffee. Then they sat at the table furthest from the rest of the customers.
"So what are their names?" Judy asked.
"My name is Ratchet," said the shorter lynx.
"And my name is Alister Azimuth" said the tallest lynx.
The three girls showed up with the two linx.
"Where do they come from?" Fenneko asked.
"Well we were both born on the planet Fastoon, which is now in ruins," Alister replied.
"And before I got here I was residing on the planet Veldin" Ratchet replied.
"So you are aliens?" Restuko asked.
"Well, you could say that yes, our species is known as Lombax" said Alister.
"But it seems that we are quite similar to the inhabitants of this planet, so we go unnoticed," said Ratchet.
"Where are Fastoon and Veldin left?" Judy asked.
"Faston is located in the Polaris galaxy, while Veldin is located in the Solana galaxy," Ratchet replied.
"Both galaxies are close to each other, but unfortunately they are located very far from this galaxy," added Alister.
"And tell us, what were you doing before you got here?" Retsuko asked.
"I'm a hero who is in charge of defeating criminals and galactic supervillains, I had just returned home from a mission, it was night when suddenly the entire area where I live lit up white. When I found out, I had appeared in this city on top of a building. Fortunately there were no more inhabitants near where I lived because if they hadn't ended up here too," Ratchet replied.
"In my case, you may not believe it, but I'm not supposed to be alive right now. It was assumed that I had passed away a few years ago, in a sacrifice to save Ratchet and the universe, from an event that was going to happen because of me, and in the subsequent explosion I ended up dying. I don't know what happened before arriving on this planet, since I was deceased, but the first thing I remember was waking up on this planet again alive and with my body restored, and with Ratchet hugging me with joy that he was from I'm coming back" Alister replied.
"If it weren't for the strange things we've been through since yesterday, it would have been hard to believe them, but taking into account what we're going through, their stories don't seem strange to me. By the way, what's the name of your little robot friend that comes with you" asked Fenneko.
"What do you mean Fenneko?" Retsuko asked.
"Don't tell me you didn't hear Ratchet talking to someone on our way here and looking at his back as he did so?" Fenneko said.
Alister and Ratchet made her nervous, to notice that he noticed.
"Don't worry, we will be careful so no one notices," Fenneko said.
"Okay," Ratchet said, taking off what looked like a backpack and putting it on the table.
What looked like a backpack, then he took the form of a small robot of a shorter stature than Retsuko and Fenneko.
"Judy, Retsuko, Fenneko, this is Clank, he is my best friend and we have had many adventures together" said Ratchet.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," said Clank.
"The taste is ours" said the three girls.
"So you know what that light was that brought us here," Clank asked.
The three girls began to explain the story that Sonic and the others had told them. Once the two Lombaxes and the robot were finished, they finally understood why they got there, although still wondering why Alister came back to life.
"First of all, we have to tell those who sent us to look for them that we already found them," Retsuko said.
Judy took the communicator from her, pressed the right button, and said that she wanted to talk to Tails.
"Hi Tails, this is Judy. We already found the first group that was teleported here by the chaos control. Did you guys go out of town? Oh I understand. Don't worry, we can do that. Bye," Judy said.
"What happened?" Fenneko asked.
"They left the city, they found traces of the master emerald, so they went looking for it and Jack accompanied them" Judy replied.
"And what will we do now?" Retsuko asked.
"Well, they told me to take them to the apartment and wait for them to come back," Judy replied.
"They have no problem accompanying us" Retsuko asked the two Lombaxes and the robot.
"Of course not," Ratchet replied for all three.
After that, Clank hid his limbs from him again, Ratchet put it back on as if it were a backpack. They all paid for their coffee and left the cafeteria in the direction of Gori's apartment.

War Melodies on the Gramophone; Part 2
Tumblr media
A/N: Here’s the requested part two!! Thank you so much to the lovely anon and other loving followers that expressed their want for a part two. The conclusion to this story! Really hope that its the ending you desired! A fitting end to the reunited pair, wouldn’t you say?
Taglist: @zodiyack , @itsfrancisneptun , @shelbys-we-get-the-job-done, @amy-booxx & @fandom-fucking-shit
Pairing: Thomas “Tommy” Shelby X Female Reader
Word Count: 1519
▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫
It was quaint and quiet the Shelby townhouse was at this hour. The loud crowd of the household all down at the Garrison which you’d departed shortly after. Tommy carried himself like he was the cock of the wall. The alpha among his pack. Yet, he held the damaged air of a dangerous lone wolf on the prowl.  He wasn’t at all the boy you once met, however, during the war you had borne witness to that transformation as well your own.
Sitting down in the living area on a comfortable but worn out loveseat. You observed the family setting the room gave. Apart from that, it warmed your soul to know that he had a family to come back to. The epidemic that you had come home to without rest to throw yourself into a great risk environment of sickness and death after the gore-ish war. You had taken ill for a time and thought it’d be finally your end. Fate had something much crueller in mind for you. Your mammy and pappy as you called them took ill. It carried them away to the heavenly gates before you were able to see them again.
So, the homely scene was almost comforting to you. As you straighten your posture, gazing at some of the things that made it uniquely home. Only to be caught off guard by Tommy’s outstretched hand offering you a glass of whiskey. Awkwardly you smiled up at him. Accepting the drink, even if you’d had a few at the Garrison it felt like you needed a bit of a boost of your confidence. Time surely had passed on the era where you were certain to know that man before you. But, life was so different now.
Once you would have been able to speak your dreams, but now it seemed foolish to speak to a stranger. Whiskey was the answer for each discouraging thought that told you to run. Those thoughts dampened the best of moods, they wouldn’t win now. Fencing off those insecurities you clung to the hopes that made things seem a little more realistic. “You have a lovely home Tommy, it’s so homely. It's nice. Simple.” You complimented smiling at the rim of your glass. The home was something you have been looking for since you had returned from the war. After everything, the places you stayed were only beds to sleep in. The area where you paid way too much rent for the upkeep on a cheap and run-down flat. Shouldering the debts of family gambling… Your brother’s issues. Yet, that little shit ran away with his tail between his legs when he heard the world of your return.
You guessed that’s what came of the younger generation that didn’t go to war. It was all about larking about, making a fool of oneself. “Thank you, my Aunt Pol is very particular with things. She likes things one way. Her way and no other way.” Thomas didn’t change with one point that was likeable. Things were always straight to the point and it never took long for him to answer. He was smart, quick with his wit. Maybe there were actually a lot of points you honestly liked about it. Truly, if you were a grand author or poet you’d be able to write it all out. If time would allow you and you had the knowledge of all the fancy words under the sun.
No, you were, in fact, a little simple. Smart, but your wit came with the job and doing things with your hands. It helped things come across clearer; feelings, desires and needs.
“You’re somewhere else, [y/n],” Thomas said in a matter-of-fact, seating himself beside you. Nursing his own drink of Irish Whiskey. “Where are you lost?” He asked you quietly. Blue observing eyes turned quickly to you drinking your lovely features in. The distance in your handsome gaze.
“I don’t know, sometimes I just drift. A lot of days are like that.” You admitted hesitantly, it almost felt like dumping a burden on Thomas after so all. Sadly, the certainties of old familiarities seemed and felt long forgotten at that moment.
“I understand that, somedays it feels better to just be somewhere else, doesn’t it?” Tommy commented rather understandingly. Offering you a cigarette from his smart-looking case in the front pocket of his well-tailored coat. Gratefully accepting the stick of pure calmative and nicotine. Placing the glass down on the coffee table, you took it between your slightly chapped lips. Inhaling at Tommy lit the end, sparking the ember to life and filling your lungs with that heavy relief you couldn’t describe.
“Exactly, the work helps. It’s always helped. When I slow down the demons come rushing back, night horrors.” You admitted between a neutralizing inhale of the nicotine. It levelled out the insecurities. Beat them out like a flat iron. Before letting out a shaky laugh looking down at your lap feeling awfully silly about the suppression of emotions. Flicking the ask into the provided tray before you. “So, what have you been doing with your life? It seems to be going well for you, appearance-wise. But, I always picture you to be quite the smartly dressed fellow in any case.” There, finally, set in the creeping ease in your manner and comfort. Tensions releasing from you like a heavyweight rolling free off your shoulder and down a large hill.
“Bookkeeping and other sorts of jobs pay well enough, I won’t lie about that.” Tommy exhaled a cloud of smoke as he spoke, filling the dimly lit room with a greyish cloud that held a little bit of mystery to it. “By it sounds and the girl you were with at the Garrison, is it safe to assume you’re still a nurse?” He asked with a focus dedicated only to you.
“Yes, but I’m studying in the field to become a doctor. Bold, I know. The men at work are more than happy to point out how unwomanly and unbecoming it is to become a doctor. But, I don’t mind at all. It’d give me a purpose and something to look forward to. After all the hard work is done.” You smiled absentmindedly at the man at your side, feeling that comfort between each other once more. Like it had never left in the first place. Just stagnant time held, needing the flow of conversation once more to remove the frigid awkwardness.
Tommy chuckled at your remark of the men at work, their thoughts seemed invalid to him. “You’ve always had the most delicate hands, that do the job right the first time. Don’t take any notice of them.” There was a wit in his remark. Soul-warming. It lit an old spark for you. That had been so suppressed for so very long. It made you want to ask a question--something that would bug you later if you didn’t. No matter how rude it’d seem.
“Are you married, or involved with anyone, Tommy?” You needed to ask. Eyes appearing glassy when asking such a question. Almost like you’d cry if you heard someone stole his heart. Foolish and bitter as it seemed, the little light that was alive between you and the Brummy had kept hell from your door for a time. Pitiful it just seemed to lose all that now. Even when you didn’t know Shelby pulled through there was a hope there that he was always out there. Healthy, alive, surrounded by the people that mattered--even, bitterly, a lover if he had one.
Tom’s gaze became distant and wandering now. Taken to a place elsewhere. Locked on memories of the past. “No, there’s no one. The occasional whore, nothing emotional.” He suffocated the embers of his cigarette finishing that statement. Sparks jumping up and licking across his fingertips. Before glancing at you with that dangerously handsome gaze that made you feel like those days were the war stopped for a moment. Where you found yourself in his embrace.
“I lost my heart and was broken by a nurse in the war, for the longest time I didn’t know she was alive… That was until tonight when I saw you in the Garrison. All dolled up and looking every part the goddess of Gyspy dream.” Thomas said in a perfectly heartbreaking voice, before drawing you to his lips. Right hand on your cheek, smoothing over the soft flesh. Left-arm a smooth snake around your waist, stealing your breath away as you gave yourself away into the passion of a shared kiss. That searing reunion that seemed to call for both you.
“I lost mine to a Brummy Boy turned man, the bookkeeper, a crowned prince of the Peaky Blinders. My Thomas Shelby.” You announced against his rough lips once more. Before stealing a rough kiss once more. Easing back into the love seat letting things take their natural course. Only the smell of sweat and cigarette clung into the air after a time. Sweaty bodies tangled together. Still high from the memory of each other’s embrace.

Puppets: V - Two Sides of a Coin
Russia woke up later to the sun was shining into the room and noticed America was nowhere to be seen. Sitting up, he rubbed his face and looked around to make sure America had really left the room. He stood up and saw a note left on the bedside table that said, 'I'm in my office,' in a swirling, sloppy handwriting. He picks it up and leaves the room.
Russia gives the door a few sharp knocks before opening it. America is on the phone with someone but still spared Russia a quick wave. Russia listened out of curiosity.
"Do you think you could come over and help?... Oh, thank God!... Yeah, Russia is staying over, and 'Nada is going to be coming with the Providences... Don't call me that!... Okay, I'll see you soon... Love you too, bye," and America hangs up the call.
"Who was that?"
"One of my brothers. He used to go by Confederacy, but now he just goes by Dixie."
"Confederacy? Was that the person you fought against in your civil war?"
"Yeah. He was the Confederate States of America, but the northern states didn't really respect him until he went by a different name: hence, Dixie."
"I thought personifications that lost civil wars were disintegrated."
"If I killed him, yeah. But I didn't kill him. I forced him to reform, though. Anyways, he's coming over to watch the states and providences once Canada gets here so that you, Canada, and I can try to figure out what's going on."
Russia nods. "When is Canada going to get here?"
"I'd say maybe a day or so." America answers, then, the doorbell rang, "or not. Hold on, I'll answer it."
Russia follows America to the door, and when America opens it, Canada walks in with 10 following children.
America greets them happily. "Hi, guys!" he exclaims.
"Hi, Uncle America!" the children chorus.
"Ontario!" someone yells from behind them, and the providences are pulled inside.
Canada calmly walks in behind them as the states began to play loudly with their cousins.
"Delaware," America calls.
"YEAH?" Delaware called from the main room.
"Could you watch your siblings and cousins for a few hours?"
"No problem, Dad!" he replied, his head poking around a bend before disappearing.
Then America turns to face Russia. "Come on. We have some important stuff to do."
Then the three countries walk upstairs to America's office. Russia is a little confused about what they will be doing up there but complies, following behind the brothers. Once inside, Russia closes the door, and America pulls a board out from a closet in the back of the room. After he spun it around, Russia is shown a world map with multicolored pins stuck in different places all over the world.
"What are the pins for?"
"The pins are to record anything related to... recent events. The red ones are for any disappearances, the green pins are for a vague estimation for where countries are, and the blue pins are for the locations of states and provinces. It's mostly to help see large groups in one area."
"Why are there blue pins in Australia?"
"Aussie has states too."
"Oh."
"You don't seem very surprised," America remarks with a chuckle.
"At this point, anything is possible," Russia replies with a shrug. America laughs.
Then there was a knock at the door, and Canada opens it to see California and Ohio standing in the hallway.
"Hey dad, we think Dixie is here, but with the whole monster thing going on..." Ohio says, trailing off.
"Don't want extra, like, risk," California adds.
America nods and pulls out his phone. A few moments pass.
"Go open the door for your uncle," America says, shooing them out.
Then, Virginia pokes her head into the office, "pops?"
"Yes, Virginia?"
"Just wanna let ya know that cots are all set up."
"Thank you. Alright, let's head downstairs and greet Dixie."
"Yay!" Virginia cheers and she hurries downstairs with Massachusetts on her tail. America begins to head downstairs, and Canada walks beside him. Russia decides to follow them. Once they get downstairs, they are surrounded by chaos, as loud talking and laughter ring out across the house.
Once they get in the main room, Russia sees a face that he thought should be dead. The personification standing in front of him had a design similar to America's flag, but with larger stripes and fewer stars. Dixie walks forward and pulls America into a hug.
"Howdy, Amy!" he shouts happily.
America rolled his eyes, but a smile still crept across his face.
"I thought I asked you not to call me that."
Dixie laughs loudly, moving to hold America by the shoulders.
"Why I ain't never heard such a thing!"
"D*ck," America muttered, arms crossed, but a smile still firmly planted on his face. Dixie only laughs louder, releasing America and greeting Canada with a playful smack on the shoulder.
After greeting the brothers, Dixie turns to Russia with a grin, sticking out a hand in greeting. "Howdy, I'm the former Confederacy, but 'cause that's a little outdated, y'all can call me Dixie."
"Nice to meet you, Dixie. I'm Russia," Russia replies, taking Dixie's hand into a handshake. Dixie enthusiastically shakes Russia's hand before heading into the kitchen, loudly discussing what he should make for dinner with the states which follow him.
Russia notices a few pieces of luggage at the end of one of the couches. After watching some of the states trip on, he moves it onto the nearby couch to avoid unnecessary damage from the nearby foot traffic.
Then, he sits down next to America on a couch, relaxing as the children ran around the main room, laughing and playing. The clanging of pots and pans and loud conversation echoes from the kitchen. The atmosphere reminds Russia of his old home when he and his siblings lived together with his father.
The television plays in the background, and Russia ignores what is being shown, watching the little kids around him until one of them latched onto his leg. Looking down, he makes eye-contact with Alaska.
"Hello," Russia greets. He gets a muffled response. Unsure of what else to do, he helps Alaska onto the couch, and Alaska curls up next to him, watching the cartoons on the television.
Then, the "dinner's ready" announcement echoes through the house. After a few moments of silence, a stampede shakes the house as states and provinces alike streamed out of rooms, running through hallways and pounding down staircases to reach the kitchen. It took a few minutes to get everyone served and seated. Then, before they ate, Dixie and some of the southern states say a quick prayer, and the states sounded off, followed by the providences.
While eating, Russia can't help but notice how Dixie interacts with people. He is always very loud, even louder than America at times, with a laugh that could be heard through walls. It was odd to see someone that seems more American than America, but Dixie represents America's southern region, so maybe it wasn't so weird. Russia ponders, eating quietly.
By the end of the meal, Russia had to admit that the pie was something he wouldn't miss out on again. Once dessert is over, the states devolve into yelling about helping with table jobs, which seemed to be after-meal chores. He could also hear Canada scolding his providences into helping clean up after the meal.
The rest of Russia's evening is spent in the main room, playing card games and watching television with Alaska tucked under his arm. There are worse places to be, Russia decides. He falls asleep that night feeling content, but he knows things can't stay like this forever.

Cybernetics - Cyberpunk!Sonic AU - Chapter 2
Amy Rose has been working tirelessly at her broken down booth for as long as she can imagine. Ever since Tails left their work to join forces with the revered hero of Mobius, ‘The Blue Blur’, she’s grown lonely and desperate to make her life exciting. A strange customer comes in one day asking her to fix his cyborg arm, what she didn’t know was that he would be the catalyst for a brand new life.

The night had been spent tossing and turning in bed for Amy, she’d been too focused on trying to think of ways to get around the technology difference in the arm to get much sleep. She doubted she got the recommended hours, but she picked up an energy drink from a battered vending machine- that had cost way too much, by the way, she figured that she’d be better off scavenging for one at the reclaimed food place on the street she worked on- and been on her way. The back alley was pretty sparse save for the other shop and booth keepers walking to and from their work as well as talking to each other, she saw a few people that she assumed to be just normal city dwellers that simply had lived here long enough to know about the alley, but other than that it was mostly empty. When she had finally made it to the backside of her booth and pushed the burlap flaps aside she set her bag down by her stool and cracked open the energy drink, taking a sip out of it before setting it down on her work table. It tasted of warm strawberries, but it still fizzed, so it couldn’t have been in the machine too long. Amy walked over to the front of her booth and pushed the screen up, opening her booth to the busy morning street. Most customers she got in the morning would give her projects they expected to be done when they got off from work in the late evening, but she wouldn’t be taking any of those today due to the arm. She wouldn’t deny fixing a ProjScreen or a radio though- both tended to be simple fixes and easy money. Besides, it might be nice to have a break from the thing that had frustrated her all night. Amy felt slightly refreshed as she sat down at her work desk and took another sip of the drink, her shower last night had returned her rose pink fur to her, and even though it would return to its dusty purple hue by the end of the day, she appreciated it while it lasted.
Finally, she looked down at the arm and popped the front panel off again with the flathead before moving on to the next parts that seemed the most easy to remove, the black rubber around all the joints. Sure enough, with a little prying the glue away from the metal and some convincing, the rubber was popping away to reveal more black metal hinges and structures, black wires, and Thuluhide veins. She put the rubber aside and leaned in to look closer at the newly exposed wires and structures. In the area where she had removed the panel, the inner structure had also taken some heavy damage from whatever had kicked him, though it didn’t seem to be the source of his problem, it would be best to straighten out the metal and reinforce it. She got to work on it with her screwdriver and occasionally wrench to tear the dented metal reinforcements free so they could be welded back into shape, and after that she moved on to the elbow where she would hopefully find the source of the problem. Sure enough, one wire was completely frayed, and others were pretty obviously weak. Well, there was her solution. Amy sat back in her stool, but was interrupted as her ProjScreen alerted her to an incoming call. She pulled it out of her pocket excitedly to find Tails’ caller image glowing on her screen. She threw it down to the table and watched as the projection of Tails came to life, knowing that hers did too on his end.
“Hi Tails!” She exclaimed with a smile.
“Hey Amy- sorry I didn’t answer last night, I hope I’m not too late to help.” He replied excitedly. Her smile became more sheepish in response.
“You’re just moments too late, I was able to figure it out after a night of semi sleeping on it.”
“That’s too bad.” He shrugged.
“It’s really quiet here without you.” She spoke quickly, eager to keep the conversation going.
“Oh it’s always busy around here, I almost wish I had some peace and quiet.” Tails’ smile faltered as he looked at something off projection confusedly.
“Is something-“
“I gotta go Amy, duty calls!” He gave her a quick smile as his eyes darted back to the screen. He hung up before she even got the chance to say goodbye.
Amy slumped forward, leaning her elbows on the table with a sigh. It seemed like everyone was too busy for her nowadays. Running the booth was starting to wear down on her with a lack of social interaction outside of customers who tended to be either rude or untalkative. Recently she had been talking to Whisper, who ran the weapons shop next door, they became acquainted when Amy had asked to use her wall as supports for her cloth roof and for a lamp, and since then they had continued to have small talk, but she wouldn’t call them friends. Amy didn’t remember much about the shopkeeper on the other side, just that it was a bakery owned by a woman much older than her with a daughter, they had only talked the one time to confirm it was okay for Amy to hang her roof and lamp from their walls. With a resigned sigh, she sat back up again and took another sip of her strawberry energy drink before stretching and promptly getting back to work on the arm.
-
As the sun set on the city to bring another day to its end, Amy had finally finished repainting and sealing the arm panel and was popping it back onto the arm. She’d been interrupted a few times, sometimes turning people away while telling them to come back tomorrow, other times taking a moment to fix whatever knick knack they’d brought her for a fee of around twenty units. The arm had taken the majority of her time as she had needed to learn how it worked while fixing it, and by the end, she felt smarter for it. She’d heated the inner bent metal structure she’d taken out and bent it back in place before reinforcing it with two thin, but strong, pieces of metal on either side of the initial bend. Then she’d repainted it black and sealed the paint so from a distance it looked as if it hadn’t been tampered with at all. The frayed wire she’d completely replaced, though she also painted it black and sealed the paint again to keep the theme. The other wires that had seemed to have weakened got strengthened with some more black rubber around their weakest points, which seemed to be the points at which they bent the most. Then she’d pushed out the dents on the front arm panel, buffed any edges that stuck out, and repainted the entire thing white. As soon as the panel clicked into place Amy sat back to admire her work, tossing his flat head onto the desk, which just barely missed her long empty energy drink can. She looked out the front of the booth to see it had finally grown completely dark, and with any luck the mystery customer would be coming around soon. She’d have a bit more work to do, as she’d discovered that the arm seemed to have been torn from its port, the wires at the top were all broken and snapped.
A quick rapping of a metal knuckle on her booth’s front table brought her attention back to the real world. There stood her mystery customer, just as hidden by his massive cloak as yesterday, but seemingly less ashamed of letting her see his other arm, as it’s hand poked out from behind the cloak and rested on the table, fist closed.
“Oh! Come on in and sit down here-“ she hopped up from her stool and brushed it off before heading over to the front of the booth to shut the screen. “-I’ll shut the booth down and then I can connect your arm again in peace.”
He nodded wordlessly and brushed past the booth in the small entry space left between the left side of the booth and the building to step into her work place.  She shut the screen gently and turned to see him looking down at the arm, clearly forming an opinion on her handy work.
“You did well.” He spoke finally, turning to sit down on the stool with a dramatic ‘fwump’ of his cloak.
“Thank you.” She smiled slightly, making her way over. “It was quite difficult to figure out, but I got it eventually. I hope it works just as well as you remember it.” Amy reached towards the back of her table and grabbed the mini torch. “I’ll have to solder the wires back together- did you tear the arm off on your own? That must not have felt good.” She asked as she crouched down and got to work.
“Not really...”
“So... was it whoever kicked the shit out of your arm then?”
He stiffened.
“How’d you know about that?”
“The dents on the front forearm panel were a dead giveaway, you come to recognize kick dents when people seem to think kicking something to take their anger out on it won’t break it.” She shrugged as she continued to reconnect the wires.
“Well... he loosened it. My arm wasn’t working to well after that and eventually I just got fed up with it and took it off myself.” He relaxed a bit, as if he’d been relieved with her answer.
“How long did you walk around with it loose?”
“A few months.”
Amy stopped to look up at him incredulously.
“A few months? You walked around with your arm half broken for a few months?”
“It’s hard to find a trustable mechanic.” He responded as if this was the most obvious thing in the world. She shook her head and got back to work.
“Why’d you come all the way out to the outer ring then? You clearly had money to drop on some custom arms, why not go to someone with more rep?”
“Do you really want an honest answer?”
Amy shrugged and nodded her head yes.
“It’s because you have no rep.”
She scrunched her face up as she kept working. What kind of answer was that? It made sense if he was some sort of criminal... which also made a lot more sense with the not showing the face thing... but she pushed it aside. A customer was a customer, and he hadn’t killed her or anything, and no law enforcement had come trampling down her booth, so maybe he was just a thief or something that the government couldn’t care less about. That made sense. Amy stood back up as she finished the last wire, supporting the arm in one hand as she put the mini torch down. She put both hands on the bicep of the arm and gently lifted it to the connection point, quickly pushing the wires into their own pocket so they wouldn’t get in the way of the arm plugging all the way in before finally shoving it into the socket with a click. She stood back as the arm powered on, the red stripes lighting up in a gradient as the Thuluhide began flowing once more.
“Alright, try it out.”
Slowly, as if he was testing it out for the first time, he bent it at the elbow before flexing his fingers and curling them into a fist.
“It’s-“
“Rose!” A sudden, hushed voice came from the back entry way between the burlap flaps.
“Whisper- what’s up?” Amy dragged her attention away from the arm as he also turned slowly to look at the wolf that had arrived.
“I wanted to see if you were free to come check out the prototype I finished for you and maybe get some dinner at the reclaimed food place afterwards.” She asked.
Amy thought about it for a moment, getting dinner sounded great, she hadn’t eaten all day and going out with someone sounded great, but at the moment she quite frankly didn’t feel like eating week old reclaimed food that would leave her feeling sick before bed, and her brain was too fried from working on the arm all day to even consider looking at the prototype she’d asked for.
“I’ll come by and look at the prototype tomorrow morning, maybe we can get lunch instead?” She offered. Whisper shrugged.
“Sure, I can’t promise the lunch but I’ll check my schedule and tell you tomorrow.” She waved a quick goodbye before backing out the makeshift door. Amy sighed slightly and brought her attention back to the mystery customer.
“How much?” He asked.
“Hmm...” she thought for a moment before responding. “One hundred units should do it, minus the twenty from the down payment for course so it’ll come to eighty.” He seemed shocked.
“Only one hundred? You figured out a different mechanics work, reinforced a major structure and all the wires, repainted any parts you messed with and finished them and connected the arm yourself and you only want one hundred units for it?”
“Well, it’s technically one hundred and forty since you wanted it expedited.” She replied with a shrug.
“I’ll give you four hundred units.” He offered. She grimaced at the thought of taking so much for something she wouldn’t normally charge that much for.
“Really... one hundred and forty is fine.”
“Two hundred plus a meal that isn’t week old dumpster food.” He pressed onwards.
Amy bit her lip as she thought about it. Two hundred wasn’t too much more than her original price, and a meal that wasn’t at least half reclaimed would be nice...
“Fine.” She gave in with a small smile of defeat.
“Good.” He responded, taking her hand in his and giving her a firm handshake. “Let’s get going then. Won’t be long before every decent place to eat is filled with loud drunk people.”
Amy nodded as she grabbed her bag and hung it over her shoulder, following him out onto the busy street. With any luck, she hadn’t just made a mistake by letting a mysterious- possibly a criminal- customer buy her dinner.

.
Shadow couldn't get a wink of sleep. It's been at least a month since he last saw Amy.
Not like he cares too much now since he knew that he won't be seeing Amy for some time.
"Would you like to go away with me? You know, go into different adventures together?"
"I'll think about it."
Shadow remembers their conversation clearly. Right after they got back home from their mission he was going to The Resistance to go and try to apologize to Amy and stumbled upon their conversation.
That was enough for him. He knew Amy would eventually say yes and leave this city with her beloved.
So, why did he still have a small hope that she will stay?
The mission turned out to be fine. The village was attacked again by mercenaries just as Amy predicted but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle.
Tails make it out alright. The cure made out from the flowers Amy picked up made effect the next day. When he woke up, he admitted that he didn't remember anything. Just like Sonic, he remembers walking through the forest and the next thing he knows, he woke up in a room where Team Dark and Sonic were with him.
They tried to investigate but no one came up with any logical conclusions. What happened to them, would be a mystery that maybe solve later.
Shadow stood up from his bed, maybe taking a midnight ride with DR will clear his mind.
DR was the name he put to the bike Amy gave him. Dark Rose, because ... Why not?
Of course, he wasn't going to tell anyone the meaning behind the name.
He rode his bike for miles, just enjoying the view of the city. Cars passed as he kept riding and he found himself in a stop sign. It seemed like it took forever for the red light to change to green. He sighed as he heard thunder and felt rain touch his nose.
In a second, he was completely wet from head to toes.
He sighed, the light finally turned green.
And he kept ongoing.
.
"Shadow? This is Rouge."
Shadow was driving back to his apartment already, driving with heavy rain was very unsafe, even for a professional motorcycle rider like him.
"Shadow here." He said as he talked through his wrist communicator to Rouge.
"Are you driving? It's horrible outside." Rouge said.
"I am going back to my apartment,"
"Oh, nevermind then."
"What is the problem?" Shadow said as he finally spotted his apartment building.
"I wanted to see if you could check up on Amy? She gets out of work late and she usually doesn't have an umbrella. I would it myself but I can't fly in the rain." Rouge added, "It's alright tho, I am sure she will be fine. I'll check on her tomorrow."
Shadow didn't even think for a second, he turned around, and headed to Amy's workplace.
.
He knew it was a bad idea to drive one of his favorite motorcycles during a thunderstorm. He crashed on a light pole as he made a turn, the tires were already old and there wasn't enough friction.
He probably broke his right arm, it hurt him greatly but at least he was close to Amy's workplace already.
Right now, Shadow was on the hard concrete, his back against the cold path. Letting himself getting poured by the rain.
This moment felt slightly familiar. A far memory that he wanted to forget.
A painful one indeed.
.
"Hey, Shadow~"
Shadow turned around to look at the girl calling his name.
"Would you lend me your bike?", she asked.
"BB? Yeah, just be careful." Shadow added, "It looks like it might rain ... Here, take my G.U.N. jacket."
"You are giving me your jacket?"
"No, I am just lending it to you," Shadow said, smirking.
"Yeah, right." The girl teased him and winked at him clearly flirting. "I'll see you tonight."
Shadow watched the girl he was secretly crushing on leave the office. He had to admit, that his jacket looked better on her and even better when his name was at the back of his jacket.
"My detector says: Shadow's hormones are rising," Omega said from the other side of the office.
"I am still not used to see you smile," Rouge added, "But it goes well with you."
"I am not smiling," Shadow replied.
"Yes, you are."
Alright, Shadow had to admit it. He did have a small smile on his face.
.
Shadow began to worry when his teammate wasn't arriving at his apartment. She texted him that she was on her way but it was already 45 minutes and she hasn't arrived yet.
It began to rain really hard, a storm was coming and Shadow decided to take one of his bikes and look for his girl.
Well, not his girl... yet.
Shadow drove around the places where she might be. He wasn't wearing any protection since he wasn't a fan of it. He could only think of her as she wouldn't answer his calls either.
He was so worried that he promised himself that he will tell her how he feels about her if he finds her.
He looked around for two hours until he found her.
While still riding his bike, Shadow saw the girl he liked kissing someone else, under an umbrella they both shared. Then they both got on top of BB and began to ride away.
Him riding the motorcycle, and her, behind, placing her arms around him.
And then, Shadow crashed. He got distracted and didn't notice he was heading straight into a light pole.
A few broken bones, and deep wounds, Shadow pulled out his phone and called the girl once again.
The call was denied but he received a text message that read:
'Sorry, I am at the office doing paperwork. I'll see you tomorrow, love you.'
Shadow let go of his phone and let the rain pour all of its force on him. He took a big sigh, his body hurt.
But his heart the must.
Was this what it felt like to be heartbroken?
Was this what happened when you let people get close to you?
Shadow didn't want this, he didn't want any of this. Not now not ever. He made a terrible choice by letting himself get idiotic ideas. For thinking, he was worthy of having something as trivial as love.
He felt like he was going to faint, he was losing to much blood but at the moment he didn't care. He will be fine in the morning. Right now, he only wanted to close his eyes and let his feelings go.
"Shadow?"
He heard a soft voice fade softly.
The rain was no more as a figure approached him, holding an umbrella above him. Beautiful green eyes looked at his ruby ones as he began to close his eyes slowly.
"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. I am here for you."
.
Shadow's memory was fuzzy and doesn't remember what happened afterward. He remembers waking up the next day in the hospital with Rouge and Omega next to him. He just concluded that it must be them the ones who brought him to the hospital.
But too much of that already, he needed to get to Amy now.
He finally arrived, it was a few streets from where he had crashed.
He looked through the glass window and noticed that Amy wasn't alone at all.
Sonic and Amy were peacefully drinking a cup of coffee, they were alone as the restaurant was already closed.
Shadow hid under the window as he tried to listen to the couple with his good hearing abilities, being the ultimate life forms came with its perks.
"So ... What... Do ...You ...Say... A lifetime... full of adventures?" said Sonic, "Come ... With...Me?"
Shadow tried his best to hear, but the rain was so horrible that it almost made it impossible.
He waited for Amy to answer. It all depended on her.
"I... Know...Yes," said Amy.
That's all it took.
Nobody needed him, and that included Amy.
Shadow stood up and moved quickly from the sight of the pink and blue one.
Sad, disappointed and with a broken arm. Shadow walked away, in pain. It only didn't pain him in his arm, but in his heart as well.
.
Shadow felt better after he got back home. His broken arm was still healing but since he was the ultimate life form, he knew that the broken arm will be good to go by tomorrow. Some of the scars he got from crashing were still healing as well, overall he was looking better.
He sat down in front of his chimney, he closed his eyes as he wanted to forget all about Amy and concentrate on healing.
But destiny had other things in mind,
He heard intense knocking coming from the outside, he heavily sighed as he stood up and walked towards the door.
"WHO THE HELL IS KNOCKING-" Shadow said as he opened the door but his waves of anger went away immediately. "Amy? What are you doing here?"
"What do you think?! I saw the motorcycle I gave you crashed a few streets away from the restaurant!" Amy added, "I came to check if you were alright!"
Shadow looked at Amy up and down. She was drench, water dripping from her clothes, dirty, and out of breath.
"And Sonic?" He asked.
"I am asking about you! Are you good? What happened?"
Shadow was conflicted. He imaged Amy, running all the way from the restaurant to his apartment ... Just to find out if he was alright.
"Why?" Shadow said as he looked at the ground, not wanting to make eye contact with her.
"Uh?"
"Why do you worry about me? After I treated you so badly?"
"What do you mean?" Amy asked.
"I treated you so bad! I said horrible things to you and you still worry about me?"
Finally, Amy was able to catch her breath and was surprised to see Shadow in such manner.
" I know you are the type that pushes people away because you are afraid to lose them ... or you are afraid that they will leave you," Amy added.
"You promised I was never going to see you again ... and here you are."
"And I will stay away... until you really want me in your life."
Shadow's hands trembled. He was saying things he never thought he will say again.
"Whenever I get too close to someone ... I hurt them ... Or they leave me." Shadow added, "You will leave me too. You are going away with Sonic, won't you?"
"Of course not! Yes, Sonic asked me to go away with him but, I decided to stay."
"Why? Don't you love him?"
"Yes, I do. But I still have things to do here." Amy added, "And I wouldn't be able to leave, because I would miss my friends too much."
Amy looked at Shadow, letting her feelings be known to the black hedgehog. She held his strong arms in her delicate ones as she took a moment to appreciate his red eyes soften at the gesture.
"How can you forgive me so easily?"
"That's what friends do."
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
A/N: We entering a new arc, (Casual Friends Arc) full of discoveries. As you may all notice, the identity of Shadow's previous love interest is still a mystery but more things will be revealed as the story progresses.
A would like to add a few clarifications:
-Shadow is not a jerk, he just had a horrible and traumatizing experience and due to it, he is just not the best at communicating with people. In the firsts chapters, we can see that he is actually nice when he meets people but as soon as he starts to get attached, he pushes them away. The reason why would be explained later on.
-Amy understands that Shadow has been through a lot and he is just a hard guy to deal with. Besides, Rouge and Omega, Amy has been the only one who has taken the time to try and understand him. I feel like it's on Amy's character to try and help everyone in every possible way she can and the way she helps Shadow is by giving him her friendship and unconditional support.
-Now, Shadow is not the only one with problems. We also have Amy who even though she has friends that are willing to help her wholeheartedly, she denies their help. Amy is obsessed with success and doesn't want anyone to help her get there. She likes to do things her way and lacks self-confidence sometimes. She puts others before herself and she can't say no to anyone.
Do you see what I am trying to get here? Their characteristics can make up for some really good dynamic stories and I am really excited to write and explore it.
Their dynamic can lead to something bigger: Self-growth.
They will help each other become the best person they can and with this, their relationship will develop.
This is a ShadAmy story, but just like in all my other stories, I will take time to develop their relationship. So, don't expect any romance too soon, that will probably happen around chapter 12/13 of the story.
I have nothing else to say as of right now. I hope everyone who is reading this is enjoying it. Thank you for reading! Until the next chapter!
Thanks!

Home Sweet Home
Summary: Amy visits for Rory’s birthday. Sequel to The Doctor And The Nurse, A Fishy Tail, Getting To Know You and Kernel Of Stubborness.                                ********************************************* The Doctor wandered through the TARDIS trying to find Rory. He’d been out of the medical bay for less than a day after three days unconscious being healed from his injuries the Magistrate had inflicted on him. Although he knew that physically Rory was fine, the Doctor was concerned about how he was coping.
After half an hour he finally found Rory in the library, curled up in a large oversized chair reading a book on Gallifreyan physiology.
“Should I be worried?” the Doctor asked, making Rory jump slightly.
“This was the only book I could take,” Rory noted, “I’m guessing there is a reason for it.”
The Doctor chuckled, stroking the wall fondly, “Likely the TARDIS being overprotective after seeing you injured. I know how to help you, but you don’t know how to help me.” He grimaced, “At least you didn’t.”
Chuckling slightly, Rory marked his place in the book and put it on the small table beside him.
“I wanted to see how you’re feeling,” the Doctor moved to his reason he was looking for his friend.
Rory shrugged, “Fine.”
“Fine?”
Nodding Rory replied, “Fine.”
Before the Doctor could say anything, Rory’s phone buzzed. He frowned confused when Rory hit the button not answering whoever was calling.
“Something wrong?” the Doctor asked concerned.
Shrugging Rory slid off his seat and started looking at book on the shelf, avoiding the Doctor’s eyes he said, “Nothing.”
“Who was calling?”
Rory avoided the other man’s eyes as he mumbled, “Amy.”
The Doctor watched Rory as he moved through the stacks, worried by the fact he was avoiding calls from his closest friend.
“Are you sure you don’t want to talk to her?” the Doctor asked.
Shrugging Rory replied, “It’ll just be a check in call. It’s a bit hard to feign excitement over her travels when I’ve seen other worlds.”
“But it is fair not taking her call?” the Doctor asked, “She obviously misses you. Why else would she call so regularly?”
“Guilt.”
Confused the Doctor asked, “Why would she be calling out of guilt?”
“Because we made plans together and she left,” Rory replied sharply, “After she persuaded me to move far away from everyone and everything I knew.”
Surprised at the anger in Rory’s voice, the Doctor picked up the phone and looked at it. Hitting the button, the redhead appeared on the screen grinning at him while a small message showed there was a voicemail waiting for Rory.
“So, this will just be a brief hello,” the Doctor asked, showing Rory the screen.
Sighing in irritation, Rory unlocked his phone and dialled the voicemail before putting it on speaker phone.
“Hi,” Amy’s bright voice came, “I’m guessing you’re at work since you didn’t pick up. Just to let you know I’m at the airport. Hopefully, I’ll get a taxi quickly and I’ll be at the flat in an hour or so. Let me know when your shift ends, and I’ll order food. I’m looking forward to seeing you for your birthday. Bye.”
The Doctor looked at Rory whose eyes had widened in shock.
“We should head back to your flat,” the Doctor started out and headed towards the console room with Rory following on behind. Reaching the control panel, he stalled and turned to the younger man.
“What date am I heading for?”
                                 *********************************************
Amy hung up the phone disappointed Rory hadn’t answered but he worked shifts, so it was more than likely he was at the hospital. He knew she was coming; she’d sent him the flight details two weeks ago and Rory would never forget.
He was her best friend, the one person she had always been able to rely on and she hated that she’d let him down by taking the job with Clayton and Julia.
But Rory had always encouraged her to be who she was, and to do what was best for her.
It was why she’d taken the job because she knew he would support her.
To her relief, she managed to get a taxi quickly and sat watching the city fly past. Excitement bubbled up inside her as they came closer to her best friend’s home.
When the taxi stopped, Amy quickly paid and jumped out. Pulling her keys for Rory’s flat out the bag, Amy smiled.
She couldn’t wait to see him.
Opening the front door, Amy realised quickly the flat was empty. Disappointed Rory wasn’t home Amy dropped her bag in the bedroom, frowning when she saw the picture of them that Rory usually had sitting there was gone.
Part of her felt hurt, because she kept the same picture with her wherever she went so it meant her best friend was always with her. But another part hoped this meant he had met someone who would have been uncomfortable with her picture on his bedside cabinet.
She checked her phone and frowned that he hadn’t got back to her, so she jumped in for a quick shower and put on a clean top and jeans. Checking the time, Amy decided to order some food since Rory would likely be hungry after his shift. She was getting a little concerned that he hadn’t contacted her at all since she’d landed, Rory normally would have called her back by now. Shaking herself, Amy found the takeout menus and quickly ordered them some pizza.
Waiting for the food, Amy found Rory’s stash of soda and threw a few in the fridge before she sat down. If this was anyone else, Amy knew she’d have to tidy up a bit, but Rory was the most unnaturally neat person she knew.
The bell rang and Amy took the pizza off the delivery man. Paying him, she was about to close the door when she saw Rory appear at the gate.
Dropping the pizza box onto the floor she ran and threw her arms around her best friend.
Rory couldn’t stop his smile when Amy jumped into his arms and hugged him tightly. Wrapping his arms around her, he held onto her for a moment.
“So,” she pulled back, “Dinner’s ready.”
Laughing he walked inside with her. He’d never let a call from Amy just go to his voicemail if he was able to answer it before. Rory was so relieved the Doctor had made him listen and was able to bring him to the right time and place.
Amy grabbed the pizza and, despite the fact this was his flat, she sorted everything.
“So,” Amy slid onto the couch beside him placing their food on the table, “I noticed my picture is missing from your room.”
Rory grimaced.
“Is there something or someone I should know about?” a sly grin crossed her face
“I broke the frame last week when I went to turn off my alarm clock,” Rory lied, “I haven’t had a chance to get it fixed.”
Amy frowned, “I was hoping you might have met someone.”
Rory shrugged, “When?”
“No cute nurses or doctors working with you?” Amy teased.
“Nope,” Rory murmured before turning the conversation away from him, “What about you?”
Amy shrugged, “I spend most of my time working. It can be a real slog. Especially the days where Julia films me and Clayton having sex, so he has references to write the scenes.”
Rory spat out his water as Amy laughed at him.
“Julia told me that would get you,” she chuckled, pleased with herself.
Frowning at her, Rory asked, “What are you actually doing?”
“I’m working with both Clayton and Julia and learning so much,” Amy told him excitedly, “They’re a bit like the parents I moved to get away from, but I put up with it. I do research for Clayton and read chapters making sure there’s no inconsistencies or spelling errors but with Julia, we go for trips into the mountains or look at ancient ruins and a few weeks ago we joined a cooking class for authentic Indian cuisine.”
Rory smiled softly, “I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.”
“I am,” she grinned, the world lighting up around her, “I’m getting to see the most incredible places, and learning all about the history and the culture. I wish you could experience it with me.”
“Well, I…” Rory started, trailing off and deciding not to tell her about the Doctor or what he’d been doing for the past few days. Pain remembered stabbed at his ribs and he forced a smile onto his face, “I’ll just have to do with the pictures and videos you send me.”
They talked for hours before Amy’s need for sleep caught up with her.
“You take the bed,” Rory told her, “I can sleep on the couch.”
She frowned, “I can’t take your bed.”
“Amy, we have this argument every time,” Rory reminded her, “And I always win. We’re both tired, so let’s pretend we discussed it and I’ll see you in the morning.”
With a fond smile, Amy gently kissed his cheek, “I’ll see you in the morning.”
Rory watched her head into the bedroom and waited until he was sure she was asleep.
“Rory,” the Doctor answered the phone.
“Just to let you know Amy will be here until the day after tomorrow,” Rory said before the Doctor could ask how he was.
“I’ll go for a wander and pick you up then,” the Doctor replied, “It’ll give me some time to think up somewhere fun for us to visit.”
Rory hesitated before asking, “You will be back?”
“I promise you, Rory,” the Doctor said, “I’ll be back. Are you taking Amy to the airport? Because I can meet you there.”
A smile touched Rory’s lips and relief filled him, “That sounds great. I’ll send you the flight details.”
“Get some sleep,” the Doctor told him before hanging up.
Sighing Rory lay on the couch and put the TV on low. He didn’t want to sleep right now, he didn’t want to dream so he watched bad movies until he couldn’t stay awake any more.
                                 *********************************************
The next day they did the tourist thing, travelling on one of the tour buses around London to see the sights. It was a nice day, so they sat upstairs laughing and joking as they listened to the guide. As it was his birthday, Amy treated him to dinner that night giving him a handcrafted wooden chest she’d bought in a marketplace in Peru and afterwards they headed back to the flat to watch a movie.
“Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” Amy demanded, while the credits rolled.
Squirming slightly, Rory asked, “What do you mean?”
“You forget how well I know you,” Amy frowned, “You’ve been quiet, and you barely slept last night.”
“I wasn’t tired,” Rory replied quickly.
Amy rolled her eyes, “You’re also a terrible liar.”
“Amy…”
“I’m worried, Rory,” she whispered, “You didn’t call me back, you’re not sleeping and you’re just not yourself. Is something wrong?”
Rory stared at her for a moment before shrugging, “Work is just tiring and…I’m missing you.”
Amy wrapped her arms around him tightly, “I’m sorry.”
“No,” Rory whispered, “This is an amazing opportunity, and I would never want you to give up something like this. You’re travelling and learning, and I know you love it.”
Amy nodded, “I do. But I hate I abandoned you.”
“You didn’t…”
“I did,” Amy cut him off, “And I am sorry.”
Rory hugged her close, “I know.”
“You know you don’t have to come with me to the airport tomorrow,” Amy told him.
“I want to,” Rory said, adding softly, “I should have picked you up.”
“You have to work,” Amy chuckled, “As much as I’m not looking forward to another flight so soon, I do love the fact I’m flying business class.”
“Fancy,” Rory chuckled.
“Julia booked the tickets,” Amy smiled, she moved slightly sitting to look at him, “It’s going to be a few months from now but Clayton’s first novel is getting a tenth anniversary special edition so we’ll be in London for a small book tour. You can meet them.”
Rory frowned, “Really.”
“They want to meet you,” Amy smiled, “Since I talk about you all the time.”
Uncomfortably Rory nodded, “If you want.”
She hugged him again and kissed his cheek, “I need to sleep. I’ll see you in the morning and we can go out for breakfast before we head to the airport.”
Time moved too fast and, far too soon, Rory and Amy were sitting in the taxi heading to the airport. He could see how excited she was to be heading back to the job she loved. And the cold weight in his stomach became heavier.
Waiting while she checked in, Rory walked with her to just outside security. Amy hugged him tightly for several minutes before she took a deep breath and let him go.
“Call me when you land,” Rory told her, “Let me know when you’re coming back for the book tour.”
“I will,” Amy promised before she whispered, “Love you.”
Rory smiled and hugged her again, “Love you too.”
Grabbing her bag, making sure she had her passport and boarding pass before she disappeared through the doors.
“I take it you didn’t tell her what you’re doing,” the Doctor said making Rory turn.
Rory shrugged, “Why would I? She’d only worry.”
The Doctor gave a small frown before he shrugged, “Are you ready?”
Nodding Rory followed him to where the TARDIS was waiting for them. Walking to the console, Rory turned to the Doctor.
“Where are we going now?”

I call it magic when I'm with you |Jake x Amy|
So for my b99 Fall Fic Exchange 2019 I got to write for my fave @amyscascadingtabs and got these 3 prompts to inspire my story:
Halloween costume parties
Baking together (could be something Halloween-related or general fall coziness)
Peraltiago kids celebrating Halloween
I decided to combine all 3 of them (somewhat? I mean there’s no party but there’s the mention of costumes) with a main focus on nr. 2. Hope you like it even though I finished it so last minute and it’s kinda not what you asked for... I’m so sorry! I don’t know what happened. Started out good and next thing you know there’s Harry Potter sexy times going down... Anyways happy Halloween and fall-season to you, Johanna and everyone else on here. You’re sweetheart and I hope you still enjoy it though my take on your prompts is... alternative.
———————————————————————————————————
The sound of crunching leaves beneath her feet secretly provoked a happy, giddy feeling in Amy’s stomach and an extra pep in her walk as she made her way back from the deli down the street from their apartment. It was the day before Halloween, a Friday, and this just so happened to be her and Jake’s weekly common day off which had lead to the purpose behind her trip to the deli: Instead of simply handing out candy, the sergeant was going to (see: try to) bake cute Halloween-themed cookies for the cause. Today was truly a day of mysterious events. Not only was Amy Bad-at-anything-culinary Santiago-Peralta going to bake for innocent kids who didn’t know any better than to politely accept her cookies… She had also willingly gone grocery shopping and everyone knew that she far from handled anything colder than 60 degrees very gracefully. Yet Amy couldn’t help but smile just a bit as a fresh breeze played with both her hair and dead leaves in various shades of red, orange and yellow.
Also extra plump from all the unconscious smiling, her husband couldn’t help but notice the extra bright pink shade of her cheeks when she finally walked in the door with a stuffed paper bag.
“Not too cold?” He hurriedly made his way from the living room to where she was standing by the door to grab the paper bag from her grip.
“A bit,” she shrugged off her coat before putting it away along with her shoes. “But also kind of nice. Refreshing even.”
A scoff could be heard from kitchen the room where Jake was now in the midst of putting down the heavy bag and its content. “Amy Santiago enjoying the cold? Must be a lie.”
“Perhaps adding Peralta to my name changed me for the better,” was mumbled into Jake’s left ear suddenly, letting a tiny giddy shock run through him as an effect from feeling her arms wrap around his waist from behind him. Not that he minded one bit but he hadn’t noticed her making her way from the door to him. Instantly in a reaction to the pleasent surprise, a smile grew on his face and though she couldn’t see his face, it didn’t take much more than the slight change in the tone of his voice to tell her that he was smiling.
“Well… ” the affectionate touch had quickly captured Jake’s full attention causing him to stop his dutiful process of unpacking the groceries onto the counter as to allow himself to turn around in her grip on him to look at her. Their nose-tips briefly brushed across each other, bubbling chuckles dancing from their lips, accompanying their stupidly happy grins. There was barely what could be called space between them. A tiny readjustment was all it would take for them to get that loving lock of lips they always craved. Indeed Jake was in the midst of leaning in to kiss his wife whilst mumbling, “Guess I’m the best thing that has ever happened to you then-“ when a loud wail interrupted their little moment, this bursting their otherwise bulletproof bubble, just as their lips were about to come together and he’d just barely been able to sense that his wife’s lips were still cold from her trip to the deli. A sigh was the only thing Amy got to feel, not at all as satisfying but nonetheless replacing the kiss, before she drew back to shoot him an apologetic yet slightly amused smile.
Jake returned the exact same look. “Did you tell her to do that?”
In a split second Amy’s cheeky apologetic blush switched to a look of defence followed by a playful punch to his shoulder. “How dare you!”
Seriousness being a rare matter it all of course just earned her a soft laugh from Jake who put his hands in the air in what was supposed to look innocence as he slowly backed away from the kitchen towards the hall. “I’m just saying… She’s been napping peacefully ever since I put her down before you left for the deli so it seems rather suspicious that she just now, all of the sudd-“
“Shut up, Peralta,” she scowled picking up on where he’d left off unpacking the groceries, “… and feel free to collect your daughter since you two seem to be ganging up and framing me.”
Though she was clearly messing with him there was no way she’d have to tell him twice; apart from Amy, their new barely 3-month old daughter was Jake’s favorite human and every second with her, wailing furiously or making happy gurgling-sounds, was precious. Still, even after a few months into fatherhood, her daughter was even better and more perfect than he’d ever dared to expect. Actually he never actually knew what to expect since he was so damn scared, but Marcy was incredible. It felt amazingly incredible to not be able to imagine a life without someone that you used to not be able to imagine your life with.
“Hey, Marcipan,” he cooed as he carefully pushed open the door to the infants little, pastel yellow painted room. The little girl of course didn’t answer but simply let out another wail as to call out for someone’s (preferably mom or dad’s) attention.
“Shhh,” he shushed her calmly all while safely leaning down over her bassinet to cradle her tiny body his warm hands. Within seconds, making sure to be careful with the tiny human still as fragile as porcelain, his daughter was safely cradled in his arms and a warmth that had come to grow very familiar spread within him. “What do you say we go help mom bake some cookies, huh?”
He pecked Marcy’s forehead before slowly making his way out the room and down the short hall before continuing the one-sided conversation. “Just between the two of us, we have no choice but to help her,” there was a truth in the words that provoked a chuckle from the father’s own lips. “If we don’t she’s gonna burn the place down and we’ll have to spend Halloween in the streets. Your mom might be tough enough for that but I sure as hell am not.” Whether is was on purpose or not, his sentence ended as he rounded the corner to the kitchen.
“I heard that, you know…” His wife currently had her back turned to them, hands working on something on the kitchen counter and allowing Jake to admire the long, shiny pony tail flowing down her back. Pony tail meant serious business in the book of Amy Peralta-Santiago.
“Just being honest with her, honey.”
There was barely any time for her to react before she felt his figure’s presence besides her, presenting her her now awake and curiously observing daughter. A smile instantly appeared on the mother’s face, her hands interrupting whatever she was doing.
“Hi, baby,” she cooed sweetly ahead of bowing down to place a kiss, similarly to how Jake had just seconds ago, to her daughter’s soft forehead. “Did you nap well while mommy was gone? Or did you just spend the entire time plotting against me with your father?”
“Oh mommy, me and dad would never be mean to you,” Jake spoke in a high-pitched, phony voice as to take on his daughter’s role.
Amy straightened back up to take in the funny sight of her husband’s parody with one hand on her now popped hip and a suspiciously cocked eyebrow. Though there was no way she was actually mad at him, this kind of banter was a Peralta-Santiago trademark. Not a day went by without it and Jake incorporating their newborn daughter was definitely to his advantage.
“Hm,” she turned back to what appeared to be a bowl with mixed ingredients. “I don’t know if I believe you two…”
“Please believe us, mommy,” Jake continued his little sketch, following Amy’s movement away from them trying to close the remaining distance between them. “I napped really well and daddy just sat there thinking about how much he loves you and how he can’t wait to see you wearing that sexy Hermione costume he bought-”
Upon hearing those last few words slipping off her husband’s lips (her husband who was currently holding their tiny daughter in their arms!!) Amy’s head snapped back to him and away from where it was looking at what was slowly but somewhat surely becoming cookie dough. “Jake!” Though his wife’s eyes would forever and always be the most beautiful, soothing and perfect brown pair, for a second right there in that moment, he feared them and the threatening daggers they shot. “Don’t say stuff like that in front of Marcy!”
“Babe, she’s a baby,” he chuckled warmly to his defence, leaning in before tenderly placing kiss to his wife’s cheek followed by replacing them directly onto her ear so that his breathy whisper could hopefully cause shivers to run down her spine. “I could add so many more details about what you and I do when she’s asleep and she wouldn’t understand a thing.”
One side of Amy, the one that did quiver beneath the feeling of his whisper into her ear, wanted to give in to the tension her husband had managed to sneak into an otherwise very innocent and domestic moment.  Yet her contradicting side, the one that was eyeing their tiny daughter safely cuddled up in his arms, managed to fight her urge. Yes, it was a fact that the otherwise incredible arrival of their daughter had kept them from any particularly intimate activities. Whenever Marcy happened to somewhat sleep through the night the two exhausted parents made sure to use every precious second to catch up on the constant state of lacking sleep that they currently lived in. Yet she couldn’t get herself to act on her urges right in front of the tiny, innocent human.
“Jake…” Amy’s vocal chords barely managed to generate a mumble with a longing quiver as she fought the fight between giving in to the side of her that was simply a craving human and the side that was a parent.
Deep down she knew that they couldn’t go any further - at least not right now when her baby’s beautiful, innocent face was looking right at her. Nonetheless she couldn’t break the spell without allowing herself to give into the intrigue that her husband’s familiar lips waiting expectingly against her ear brought to life within her. There barely even time to acknowledge the movement before her neck and head had twisted just enough in his direction for her ear to be replaced by her lips. Years later and he still made her feel like a bubbleheaded love-sick teen.
“I know she’s a baby…” Amy whispered into the merge of their moving lips, somehow managing to keep up with Jake’s lips that happened to be persuasive as ever in the act of pursue this rush of affection for his wife. “… But we need to behave.”
“Uhummm,” as carefree as he was known to be, there was no way the mumble meant Jake planned on stopping. Itself the fact that he’d been able to keep Amy going, partially against her morals, for this long was a tiny victory that sparked the teasing competitive within him that he loved almost as much as her.
Though Amy kept telling herself that she was indeed about to break it up, Marcy letting out a tiny squeal beat her to it. The two enamoured adults quickly broke the embrace both instantly redirecting their wild gazes down at their fussy daughter. Both had to let out a small chuckle meanwhile Marcy looked anything but pleased by her parents’ lack of immersion in her presence.
“We pissed her off,” Jake joked before taking a step back from his position previously glued to his wife, allowing room to gently rock the infant which instantly reacted by quieting down. Still by the kitchen counter and having learned quite early into their new role as parents that Jake was very much capable of handling their daughter’s small tantrums on his own, Amy had resumed to the process of her Halloween cookie-experiment (Amy doing anything in the kitchen was an experiment, Jake had learned a long time ago).
“She’s tired of her dad being so obsessed with her mother instead of her.”
Jake could hear the smirk in her voice as she shuffled across the tiny kitchen to turn on the oven for her.
“That must be a big misunderstanding then,” he carefully repositioned the tiny human. Instead of cradling her carefully he was now holding her by the armpits, Lion King-stylez, facing him as he raised his arms to hold her at his eye level. “Isn’t that right, Marcipan?” He kissed his daughters forehead tenderly before holding her back out to look into her eyes. “You and I both know that you’re my favorite, don’t we?” his voice immediately indulged in his daughter’s universe, mushy and goofy,  only adding sweetness to the sight of him simultaneously nuzzling her tiny with his big nose.
Moments like these could only kindle a varm feeling in every corner of Amy’s body.
Since things were going so well for them she rarely gave it any thought, but in moments like this specific one it suddenly hit her that at some point Jake actually doubted his abilities as a parent. Yet here was, goofing around with their child like it was the most natural thing in the world, and Amy could only burst with pride at the sight. Not only had she witnessed Jake picking a tough battle in order to disobey the voices in his head telling him that there was no way he could be a better father than his own was; now she was also witnessing him, on a daily basis, being what she could only consider as being the most loving, dedicated and hard-working father to their daughter.
“I’m okay with that,” Amy smirked, making her way to the fridge to put the dough to rest. Jake’s eyes followed her, staying attentive for many reasons, as he carefully placed his daughter back into a cradled position in his arms. There was no way he was going to be let off with being right; something was coming to shut him up and all he could do was observe, wait patiently for his witty wife to pull out the last trick hidden up her sleeve. Her every move was noted.
Slowly closing the fridge was step one. The movement wasn’t exactly slow enough to seem suspicious, like it was leading to something else, but what happened afterwards or better known as step two would definitely blow his mind.
“… cause at the end of the day, as soon as I put on that costume… I’ll be your favorite.” Just in time to match her reaching the end of her venomous sentence, Amy tantalisingly turned around (right on that very same spot by the now closed fridge) and like a dagger stabbing him in his hopelessly devoted heart her deep, her brown eyes told him everything he needed to know. As so many times before she was more than right - and as so many times before he didn’t mind one bit. If she wasn’t smirking before (which she was) then she definitely was now and it was driving Jake crazy which with the biggest guarantee in the world she immensely enjoyed. Amy Santiago-Peralta had driven him crazy with great, legendary purpose for the past 11 years and by the looks of it she wasn’t planning on stopping; yet another fact Jake didn’t mind one bit.
He especially didn’t mind later that evening, after saving five entire batches of cookies from burning, when Marcy decided to stay asleep and his wife suddenly walked into their bedroom clad in a what Hogwarts would definitely define as a scandalous outfit: a way too revealing school girl outfit (if you asked Hogwarts - not Jake), red knee-socks and tie, only to be topped off with a magic wand. Needless to say that Jake, who’d quietly been sitting in bed on his phone playing Candy Crush (such a dad) dropped his jaw through their bedroom floor right at that very moment. Ambushed was not the word; this was so much worse (better).
“Hey, babe…” She smiled teasingly, posing by the end of the bed well knowing that she hypothetically could say or do nothing at all and it would still drive Jake insane. But where was the fun in that?
“Wanna explore my chamber of secrets?”
His reaction to those words, to her brief dismay, reminded her of Scully’s famous heart attacks. “Oh my God, Amy,” he basically gasped for air and Amy loved it as she took her time making her way around the bed before straddling him with the dopiest yet sexiest grin on her face.
“Jake Peralta!” She gasped playfully. “Is that a wand in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”
And though he loved his daughter more than anything in the world, he prayed that tonight would be the night Marcy Santiago-Peralta would make him proud and sleep soundly.
“Guilty as charged…” He returned the grin, having finally returned from his stroke-like state, only to put his phone aside to slide his hands all the way up her thigh to her waist, burying them under her robe to pick at the edge of her skirt. Amy Peralta-Santiago-Granger… You’ve definitely got me under your spell for the night.”

Neji x Reader [I’m Not Jealous]

Neji had always been stoic with his emotions. Being raised to take over the Hyuga company after graduation had something to do with that. When you first meet him, you thought he was an arrogant prick that didn't deserve the time of day. Especially with how he treated Hinata. That was back in middle School. After he became friends with Naruto, albeit forcefully, he began to change. He was still as serious as ever, but he was no longer the complete douche you first met.
Neji started to show up to more gatherings that your friends held and even started to smile more. Despite what his uncle said it was clear hanging out with everyone was good for him. It even lead to the two of you dating. It took a while but his tough outer shell crumpled around you and you found that the two of you actually enjoyed similar things.
You enjoyed spending time with the Hyuga, especially once you started college and he started working under his uncle. You both tried to make time for each other at least once a week. Sometimes it was you dropping a lunch off for him with a small note, other times it was using his lunch break to go out. And if he had the availability to do so, Neji would make the trip to visit you for the night and you two would spend the time relaxing for a bit before the real world comes for you once again.
It was the Thursday before a long break, not only were you excited to spend time with Neji but you were also calling him to see if he was free to grab lunch with you.
“I really can’t today, we have some deadlines coming up and I have a lot that still needs to be finished.”
“Yeah, no worries, I’ll see you later though right?”
“Yes, I will see you later.”
“Okay, I’ll let you get back to work, bye.”
“Bye”
After you hung up you started walking down the street searching for a place to eat for lunch, now that your plans were changed.
“Hey!” You stopped and turned seeing Lee racing toward you, “My rival’s beautiful significant other! Where are you off to on this fine afternoon?” He asked skidding to a stop at your side.
“Hi Lee, I’m off to grab some lunch, do you care to join me?” You asked him as you offered him a smile.
“I would be honored!” Lee gasped with stars in his eyes as he bounced up and down. You laughed at his antics as you began walking down the street again. You two searched for a place to eat and eventually decided on a sandwich shop that you and Neji frequented. You sat down and ate together, casually catching up on each other’s lives and talking about how each of your programs were going. At the end of lunch you said goodbye to Lee, who departed after hugging you, then went back to the register to order lunch to-go for your boyfriend.
You made your way out of the shop and down the street with Neji’s order in hand. As you were passing a coffee shop up the street you ran into Choji and Shikamaru.
“Hey guys!” You said walking up to the two of them.
“Hey!’ Choji greeted back while Shikamaru simply waved.
“What are you guys up to?” You asked stepping up next to them.
“Just grabbing some coffee and a snack before heading home.” Shika told you
“Would you like to join us?” Choji asked.
“Sure, I still have some time to kill.” You stated following them into the shop. You ordered you favorite drink before sitting down and talking with the two boys. You had been so distracted you hadn’t realize how much time had passed. You had all received your drinks and were too busy enjoying each other’s company. Choji was busy making you laugh while Shikamaru looked on, adding in a comment here and there. And before you realized it, you had spent over an hour and a half with them. Deciding you’d better get on your way, you walked back over to the counter and ordered a drink for your boy friend before walking over and saying “goodbye” to Shikamaru and Choji.
With the lunch bag and coffee cup in hand you began making your way down the street once again. And once again you ran into a friend. This time it was Kiba and Akamaru out on a walk.
“What are you two up to?” You asked leaning over to rub Akamaru’s head.
“Just out for a walk before we go back and start on some homework.” Kiba replied resting his hands behind his head as he looked at you. “What about you?”
“I’m on my way to visit Neji for lunch.” You tell him holding up the bag.
“Care for some company on the way?” Kiba asks looking at you.
“Sure!’ You reply. And the three of you begin walking again. As you make your way down the street you and Kiba converse about a multitude of different topics, laughing all the way.
“And then, the goof totally missteps and completely falls flat on his face!” Kiba exclaims curling in on himself from laughing so hard.
“I can’t believe Naruto did that.” You replied laughing along with him. The two of you continued laughing as you arrived to the Hyuga building and as you walked in, Akamaru wagging his tail along side you. You hadn’t realized how loud the two of you had been until the people around you started shooting you looks.
“What’s the plan from here? You just dropping off the food or are you joining your boy for lunch?” Kiba asked looking at you.
“Nah, I’m just dropping it off. Neji has a bunch of deadlines coming up so I don’t want to bother him.” You responded walking up to the front desk. As the receptionist saw you coming she gave you a smile, she had recognized you from the past times you were here.
“Good afternoon Ami.” You said walking up
“Good afternoon, Neji is on his way down now, I phoned him when I saw you walking in.” Ami replied with a smile.
“Thank you.” You said as you walked over to the elevators, Kiba and Akamaru in tow. The three of you stood around for a while longer, you and Kiba talking some more, until the elevator doors behind you went off. You turned around and walking toward you was the long haired Hyuga you showed up for.
“Hey Handsome,” You said holding out the sandwich bag and cup of coffee with a smile on your face. He returned your smile with a stoic look and a small “Thanks” as he grabbed the bag and cup. Neji looked at you and then Kiba, then back to you.
“I’ll see you at your place later.” Neji said before turning and walking back to the elevators.
“Cheery sunshine as always.” Kiba said as you all  turned and walked away.
“He’s having a rough day.” You said as you all walked out.
After you separated from Kiba and Akamaru you walked back to your place and started on making dinner for the night. You were prepping soba noodles with fish in it. Neji’s favorite dish to celebrating the two of you spending time together for the first time in a few weeks. You had perfect timing too. By the time you had dinner finished Neji was walking through your door.
“Hi love, you’re just in time for dinner. I made your favorite.” You said as you finished putting the food into bowels. Neji came in placed himself at the table waiting for you to finish bustling around the kitchen. You grabbed the bowels and a couple of glasses of water, setting them on the table before sitting next to your boyfriend.
“How was work?” You asked as you dug into the soba.
“Work was long.” Neji replied also taking a bite of food. He didn’t give you much more after that. Normally he had complaints, the person messed up this, that customer ordered this, and any other problems that he had to solve while at work. You tried asking a few more questions while sitting there and were met with the same amount of responses. And when you weren’t getting many answers you tried another approach.
“Well, I had a nice day, on my way to bring you food I ran into a few friends. It was good seeing all of them again.” You said, preparing to go into more detail about it.
“I’m well aware of the day you had.” Neji said harshly stabbing his spoon into his bowel.
“What?” You asked turning to face him with a confused look on your face, “What do you mean”
“I mean, the perk of being in my standing, is that there are a lot of people around who wish to be in my good graces. Meaning they report things to me even if I don’t want them to. So, I am aware of what you have been doing all day. I know that you’ve been spending time with Lee, and Shikamaru and Choiji, and Kiba” He stated with an edge to his voice and a stern look on his face before going back to his food.
“Wh – Wow. Are, is that a hint of jealousy I hear?” You asked him, placing your hands on the table and leaning closer to him.
“I’m not jealous. Besides, what do I have to be jealous of anyway?” He asked looking at you.
“I don’t know, why don’t you tell me?” You asked, “When have I ever given you a reason to be jealous of anyone?” You ask in exasperation. After that the room got quiet and you both went back to eating. The two of you finished dinner in silence. You got up and gathered the dihes to begin washing them while Neji disappeared to get changed out of his work clothes. After you finished the dishes you grabbed your laptop and followed after Neji to your room. When you got to your room you placed your computer on your desk before you got changed, then moved back to the desk to work on one of your papers for school. While you did this, Neji sat on the bed with one of his books reading. The silence continued between the two of you for several more hours as you worked on your paper and he read. Eventually you came to a stopping point and saved your work, then crawled into your bed. Laying on your side, you faced away from Neji as you closed your eyes. It wasn’t long until you heard Neji set his book down and felt the bed shift after he turned off the light. Lying there for a moment, Neji eventually rolled over and draped his arm over your waist – drawing you closer to him – and pressed his head against yours.
“I’m” he started to speak, a bit reserved, “I’m sorry.” He managed to get out. Apologizing was something rare for Neji to do. And it was something you gave your full attention. Turning over in his grasp, you made sure to face him and show you were listening.
“I overreacted, and I am slightly jealous,” He said with reluctance, “of the time our other friends get to spend with you, while I’m limited in the amount I get to spend with you.” Neji finished, brushing his hand over your face and smoothing his thumb over your cheek. You gave a small smile to the brunette before giving your reply.
“I know our time is short together, but I treasure every moment I get with you. And there is no reason for you to feel jealous or insecure, because I will always choose to spend my free time with you if I can.” You attempt to reassure him. “I love you, and I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.” You say leaning in and pressing a kiss to his lips, which he returns.
“Now let’s go to sleep. I have some plans for tomorrow that I wanna run by you in the morning.” You finished off, tucking yourself into Neji’s arms preparing to fall asleep.
“Okay, let’s sleep.” Neji replied wrapping his arms around you again. It then got quiet in your dark room for a moment before, “Hey.”
“Hmm?” you question, shifting your head in acknowledgement.
“I love you too.” Neji said pressing a kiss to your head and settling back to go to sleep.
And since then, neither of you had to worry about the time you spent together.
