Tallpoppy! I always thought she would be pretty cute, So I tried to bring that out in her design. She is only listed in the prophecies begin allegiances as a queen, starting in Fire and Ice, but gets some characterization in Dawn, as the resilient queen of three shadowclan kits, Marshkit, Applefur and Toadfoot. They have a few near misses with death on the great journey, via kits wandering onto thunderpaths, and marshkit nearly being carried away by a bird of prey but they all make it to the new territories alive. Tallpoppy retires to the elders den in The power of three arc and is slain in the Great Battle. She was depicted as a starclan cat during Tigerclaw's leader ceremony despite being alive at the time, but resides there officially now as of current books.

Some ideas for fleshing out ShadowClan’s family tree, mostly focusing on Yellowfang. Check out my other family trees here. 

Considering the lack of cats in allegiances outside of ThunderClan, I find it kind of fun to make the whole family tree. I have one done for each clan from about MV to the most recent book. I’m slowly making the heads for each one to make it a better visual. I generally try to make them genetically accurate but sometimes making them look cool is more fun.

Notes on changes are below the cut. :)

Cedarstar and Silverflame are siblings

Deerleap and Brightflower are siblings

I always throught Brackfoot and Amberleaf looked alike so they are also siblings

I’ve changed Clawface’s name to Clawstrike. He’s still the brother of Nightpelt/star, I just didn’t include him on this tree

Yellowfang tortie rights

I’ve given Boulder a clan name, Bouldernose. He is mates with Cinderfur instead of Ashheart. They use a surrogate to have their kits and Bouldernose is their bio father. I’ve eliminated Ash to avoid any family tree crossing and to make it a little less confusing.

Instead of Brightflower being the mother of Marigold and Mint, Rowanberry is. Brightflower is a permanent nursery resident and their deaths still hit her hard. Clawstrike’s continued support of Branchstar starts to break apart their relationship as kits continue to die.

Poppytail (Tallpoppy) has kits with two different cats. Her first litter is with Branchstar (Brokenstar), and consist of Ratclaw (Ratscar) and Oakfur. Though the relationship might have started amicable (I don’t imagine they loved each other, but Branch wanted kits to follow his example), it slowly broke down as Branch continued to commit war crimes.

Poppy later has kits with Whitewater. They make up Poppy’s canon litter during TNP + Snowbird. While Snow and Rat are no longer littermates, they’re still half-siblings. 

Rubblestep (Rubblekit) survives to adulthood and has Snaketail, Ivystrike, and Owlclaw with an unknow cat, probably a loner.

Quietpaw (Quietkit) is one of the early apprentices that die before their warriorhood. The BoulderxCinder littermates are around the same age as Littlecloud.

Applefur and Smokefoot have two kits, Shrewfoot and Olivenose.

Oakfur has kits with Ivytail of RiverClan! They have Graymist together. I like to think that there are a lot more half clan relationships than seen in the books, it’s just less of a deal when it isn’t super political.

Ivystrike is Ivytail, funny how I managed to get both the Shadow and River one in here.

I cut off the tree here to avoid making it super big. I may go back and post of a tree with Scorchfur and Snowbird.

Ivystrike has Grassheart with Stoatfur. Berryheart and Yarrowleaf have their canon kits. And Shrewfoot has Wasptail and Stonewing.

Remember how Brackenfur saved Tallpoppy’s baby, Marshkit, from an eagle with a godlike jump that he wished he could have pulled off to save Snowkit? Do you remember how amazing that moment was?

The Erins didn’t and unceremoniously killed Marshkit off between books. But I do.

So that kit NEEDS to be one of my rewrite saves. In fact I am going to let them grow up into a pretty formidable ShadowClan warrior for the irony of it-- and they will probably become the mentor of Tigerheart, who’s getting shuffled to be closer in age to Dovewing, and an apprentice on the beaver mission.

SO; exposition out of the way, is that gonna be Marshkit? Or should I shuffle it to be Applekit who was saved from the eagle instead? (It won’t be Toadfoot because their name is too close to Toadstep’s)

Pro for Marshkit: No change to canon besides not dying. I get to pick a warrior name.

Pro for Applefur: Was named after Appledapple, Tallpoppy’s mentor and the mother of Ratscar and Snowbird, which I’ll have space to mention. Already a molly-- helps with balancing the male-skewed canonical gender ratio.

You got any Tallpoppy headcanons? I like her a lot and I don’t see many people talk about her

Plenty it just depends on what I want to write with her

I like to hc her as bi with a lean towards mollies.

Taller than average, gets self conscious about it. Toadfoot inherited the height.

Ik she’s a tabby but I thought she was like a black cat and that’s all I can see her as.

She’s generally a kind and soft-spoken cat but did not like any of the shit happening during Tigerclan.

She became a warrior just before Brokenstar came to power (a blessing to be honest).

Her and Blackfoot’s relationship was definitely complicated throughout all the drama (I refuse to see her as his apprentice)

I do like the Su Susann’s missing kits for them. Though I’m setting the kits back to be born when Blackfoot leaves.

For a while, his kits only have the clan and their mother to go off of about their father and when they finally get to meet him, they don’t know what to think. Tallpoppy just wanted to move on and help her clan.

She definitely went without food and hunted the best she could before the sickness got to her. Very begrudging of Blackfoot when they reunite. She iced him out most of the time.

There kits definitely bought into the Tigerclan nonsense though with no thanks to Blackfoot.

After the chaos of Tigerclan and rebuilding, BlackPoppy decide to have another litter (read: help fix the problem): Applekit, Toadkit, and Marshkit. All that really does is make Tallpoppy realize how pretty Russetfur is.

It’s definitely a complicated polycule from there.

They both were devastated when Marshkit died, Tallpoppy especially.

I like her, I think she’s neat.
