"The most stunning element of the Buccaneers' Super Bowl LV ring is a twist-off top that reveals a whole separate level featuring a hand-engraved, three-dimensional replica of Raymond James Stadium. Those two features – the removable top and the stadium tableau – have never before been included in a Super Bowl ring, and both are meant to celebrate the 2020 Buccaneers becoming the first team ever to win the Super Bowl at their own home stadium." via buccaneers.com
Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their decisive victory yesterday over the Kansas City Chiefs in Superb Owl LV!! And Congratulations to Tom Brady for becoming the Superb Owl GOAT (Greatest of All Time, that is)!
Brady and the Buccaneers truly displayed the motivation of grand owls, so to honor them we present a hand-colored plate from the Scottish-American ornithologist Alexander Wilson‘s 1828-29 edition of American Ornithology published in 3 volumes and one atlas by Collins & Co. in New York and Harrison Hall in Philadelphia. This copy is from our sibling department, the American Geographical Society Library, and the plate displayed here depicts a Barred Owl (Strix varia) and a Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus), with a Rough-legged Falcon (Buteo lagopus) thrown in for good measure.
It was not our intention to parallel the Chiefs with the dead rat about to be devoured whole by Mr. Short-eared, but after all, the game was a 31-9 blow-out. Sorry.
