In HoO and beyond, the greek gods may be under the delusion that Percy likes going on quests.

Yes yes, i know the premise of cotg was Rick's shitty shitty writing but let's temporarily put that aside for a moment and look at a possible in-universe explanation.

Let me explain. From the reader's POV, it's clear that Percy is tired of going on quests. He's said it to us and to Annabeth, and it's obvious from what he went through in HoO.

But from the gods' POV its not clear at all.

I mean, if you think about it aside from the first quest, Percy chose to go on all 4 prophecies/quests in PJO. In SoM, Percy snuck out to go blatantly defying Mr.D & Tantulus. In TTV Percy also snuck out to go. In BOTL, Percy agreed to go when Annabeth asked - he was given the option. In TTC Percy chose the great prophecy that dictated what happened in TLO.

The gods know all of this bc either Mr.D was there, one of them was there or Percy or Grover or Tyson told them. None of them were there when Percy declared at the end of TLO that he was done with quests. How could they have known that Percy didn't want to be in a second war/go on more important quests?

In HoO Hera mentions somewhere that she kidnapped Percy like 6 months early or something so that he wouldn't go on Jason's quest - which supports this theory: Hera thinks that Percy wants to go on more quests.

It's also incredibly unclear if all the gods know the suffering Percy went through in Tartarus. We know that Mr.D and Athena (probably) know he fell in. But what happened - seeing Tartarus, Nyx, Akhlys? Probably not, unless Percy or Annabeth told them.

Now consider this: You're Zeus. You have a problem: the most powerful demigod to have lived ever looked like he was going to attack you at the end of the last war. You still haven't fully recovered from that last war, or the first one against Typhon. Now this demigod:

(somehow survived Tartarus -> if we're assuming Zeus actually knows about this),

has the alliance and loyalty of both demigod camps,

over half your parthenon is incredibly fond of him -> including many of your children

your brother (who's more or less your equal in strength) is next level protective of him, openly calls the demigod his fav son *ever*, has put himself on the line to vouch for him, was willing to let his entire kingdom be destroyed on the request of his son and will definitely not let you kill him (without waging war as revenge)

the demigod Is probably one step away from actually being a god (due to the CoA your wife didn't entirely remove) and already regularly not only fights but wins against immortals, gods and titans.

this demigod is a terrifying battle strategist - he's the one that came up with the plan to successfully defeat your greatest enemy: Typhon in the matter of minutes.

You're in a very tough spot. You're capable of killing him, but then your brother would wage war and destroy the world. Your only good option is to appease the demigod, and hope he doesn't pull a Luke Castellan 2.0 and start yet another war. How do you appease him? You've already more or less fulfilled his request for the gods from tlo (Hera is working on Calypso so you consider that done). You look at the limited facts you know about him and realize that this demigod loves quests. He snuck onto 2 of them, and chose to do another 2.

So to appease him, you assign him 3 more quests to keep him happy.

as for the stommy oneshot, it's a true 'tommy and steve getting together' fic. happy ending. carol is there, of course, but it's not a 3way fic. lots of boys being boys (being gay).

Tommy is too high. He thinks it was the last hit that made him exit his body, turning every movement into something coated in deja vu. He slowly passes the joint to Steve, barely anything remaining, and feels like he's done it a hundred times, in a hundred different lives. It's a scary thought and he breathes out through his mouth and closes his eyes. "What's going on over there?" Steve asks and Tommy flinches at the sound of it, at the feeling of Steve leaning close to blow smoke in his face. Nothing, Tommy wants to say. He opens his mouth and his eyes but he makes the mistakes of looking over, and suddenly his whole chest feels like it's opening. Like he's drawing Steve in, getting close enough that when he blows out the last sad puff, he feels Steve's breath mixed in with it against his mouth. "Did you hear that?" Carol asks, stepping over Steve's legs and going to the window. Steve slowly looks in her direction and Tommy's eyes close again.

melancholic, hazy summer. the crisp feeling of falling in love with steve harrington. all those things.

Had a fun game of 40k today against Dark Eldar. 2000 points.

It was one of those “I killed most his army but he got the objective” games, with me killing a vast majority of his units, including a Tantulus, leaving him with a Venom, 2 Kabal squads and a bunch of characters by turn 2, but he killed my Courier Turn 3 so it balanced out. We called it a draw.

I amazingly killed my own Devilfish on my own turn when I exploded a Venom, stripping the Devilfish of it’s last wound.

Made the same mistake I made the game before though and allowed Farsight to get isolated backfield with no support. Got to find away to not do that.

What I think happened in the Mirror, Mirror Mind Meld (McSpirk/Spones theory)

I really don’t think even Mirror!Spock would “mind rape” anyone unless he felt like there wasn’t any other way.

I also don’t think Bones is stupid. I think he had the chance to be incredibly clever in this moment and actually took that opportunity even though he was obviously terrified. I mean who wouldn’t be?! Big sexy scary Vulcan rag dolled your friends and you’re alone in a room with him and he’s freaking crushing your wrist.

I think as soon as Bones realized what was happening (and he’d know, considering he was the very first person Spock confided in about the mind meld when Jim was on Tantulus in DoTM) he knew exactly what he was gonna do.

If Mirror!Spock wanted information, he was gonna get it.

If he made the same observations Kirk did, he’d have noticed that out of all their darker timeline companions, Spock was the least psychotic and most admirable of the bunch in spite of everything.

And like Kirk, wanted to see if he could push him to the side of light.

I think Mirror!Spock expected a Prime!Bones to be more different from Mirror!Bones, if the Captain and the others were of opposite temperament than his true crewmates. It would be logical to reason Prime!Bones was the opposite of “sentimental... soft.” as Mirror!Spock described Mirror!Bones, and if he was, that might mean he’d have to rip the answers out of him.

But he wasn’t, so he didn’t.

I think Bones just straight up answered all his questions without qualm or resistance, not out of fear (we all know Bones is courageous af) but out of hope.

Hope that Mirror!Spock would see how much less awful their timeline was, why Kirk spared him, that they’re all friends (real, non-backstabby friends) on the other side. Something the MirrorVerse lacks.

I think that’s why Mirror!Spock didn’t “mind rape” or kill Prime!Bones when the Mind Meld was done. I also think it’s one of the bigger reasons Mirror!Spock let them go, and allowed himself to be persuaded by Prime!Kirk’s call to action.

Kirk pleading with him might not have been enough, but Bones’s honesty was.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but regarding the song Tantulus, how do we know that’s the name? And how did these songs get released? Wondering because it sounds more like she’s saying “tantalized” to me.

hello love- it’s not a dumb question at all! tantalus was the subject of an ancient greek story in which tantalus tried to test the gods’ omniscience by serving them his son for dinner: his punishment was to be forced to stand in a pool of water beneath fruit trees for eternity, while never being able to catch a fruit or drink the water. it is from his name that we derive the english word tantalize, meaning temptation without satisfaction. tantalus was going the name of the album that became how big how blue how beautiful, so while she is saying “tantalized” in the song, i fairly safely assume the song was originally intended to be called tantalus and was meant to be the title track of the third album. she talks about it in this interview from 2015.

We could’ve learned about there pasts in Tartarus too. Like there is no demigod that doesn’t have a tragic past. We know percys and annabeths bc we learned in pjo. Annabeth is a runaway that was abused by Luke, this affects her today bc she has abandonment issues. Percy was a troublemaker that was by abused by his stepfather. We learn he has authority issues because adults that remain him of Gabe he picks fights w. Mr. D, Ares, Tantulus. What about the other sevens past affect them today??

exactly. any duo would have been super interesting, but the parallels it would have drawn if it had been jason and piper. in tlh, they’re at the grand canyon and piper gets pushed off, and without any hesitation, jason leaps off after her. he had no idea that he could fly, but them falling into tartarus, jason knowing fully well that he should have just been able to fly up there but being physically incapable? plus, his time down there would have been perfect opportunities to learn about his past/allude to it
