Here’s a revisit to an older post where I explored the concept of Warriors villains featuring within kits tales/clan folklore.

Mapleshade is a good choice for this because there’s an easy cautionary tale of “don’t go near the river kids or you’ll get eaten” and she offers an opportunity for different versions between clans. I imagine Thunderclan’s version focuses more on the forbidden love and the crime of killing her own clanmates cursing her to become a venomous snake (or something similar)

Yoda looked at the child in Cie’s arms with curiosity.

She had thick, dark curls, chubby cheeks and grey skin so pale that in the evening light it shone gold. She was sleeping soundly, brows furrowed and mouth slightly open, dripping saliva on her red scarf.

The Force around her hummed, Yoda could sense it whisper from the dark corners, and echoes answer in the shadows. It all sang a low, malicious tune, swirling around her like mist wrapping around trees. The air in the chamber room sat still, as everyone stared at the strange child that no doubt brought them all the same sense of dread: cold, dark, and silent.

”Bring the child closer”, Yoda asked, and stretched out his arms. Cie complied and laid her gently in his arms, then taking steps back.

Yoda closed his eyes and lingered his claws over her forehead, reaching out to the Force he could feel was now clouded with her in his lap. The familiar warmth and shelter was gone, and only the cold storm remained: the never-ending, raging hurricane that consumed entire forests and destroyed cities. Bringing devastation and ruin.

”Very dark, the Force in her is”, Yoda mumbled, opening his eyes and looking at each council member in turn. Their faces were calm and composed but the Force around them varied from grim to worry. ”Cold and unknown. Like a dark figure in the shadows. Lurking, preying. Waiting to get to her it does.”

”Master Yoda… could it be because of her blood?”, Ki-Adi asked. ”She is a Vahla.”

Yoda looked down at the child and blinked at her, smile slowly taking over his face, his heart warming.

”Know that, I do. Yes, Vahla she is. A rocky past, the Jedi and Vahla have. But a problem it is not.”

He looked back at the other masters, and nodded.

”Will of the Force it is, that this child has found her way to the temple”, he said certainly, ”to pay for our past mistakes, we shall.”

”Master Yoda, is she fit for Jedi training?”, Luminara asked, ”if she is connected to the dark side, there will be many hardships before she can become anyone’s padawan.”

”Connected to the dark side no-one ever truly is”, Yoda thought out loud and twirled one of the child’s curls between his claws. ”Always light there is. Especially in this child. Children, so innocent they are. Only an infant, yet already worry of the dark side there is. But calm now. All hope is not lost. Most urgent it is, to accept her for training. To prevent her fall to the dark side. Need it she does, even more than any other.”

✦ This lead Mayumi to develop a deep love for music and hopes to sing professionally in the future. However, her skills weren’t always viewed as positive. She had a terrible friend group that would use her for territory battles or just to get freebie favors when it came to their “friendship.”

✦ This all changed when she and her crew got busted by the authorities. After causing a commotion late one night during a rap battle, Mayumi found herself somewhere completely after seeing her friends high tail it without her.
