Urban Legend (1998)
In today's review, I find that tall tales may have deadly repercussions. As I attempt a #positive review of the 1998 slasher film, Urban Legend #JaredLeto #AliciaWitt #RebeccaGayheart #TaraReid #MichaelRosenbaum #LorettaDevine #JoshuaJackson
Superstitions, scary tales we tell ourselves, and other people, passed on and revamped since time immemorial. No matter how long ago their origins or how sensational their content, there’s always a new generation just ready to believe, that they just might be true. In 1998, as slashers were re-inventing kills for the Gen-X generation, a film gave the genre an almost fableistic twist, in Urban…

I actually really like your review of Untied States of Tara. I kind of love the trashy "everyone here sucks in some way" tv sometimes, and this absolutely fits into that category. I definitely disliked season three. It felt rushed, and therefore messy. I think in trying to find a way to tie it up it just...all got crammed in and does a disservice to the rest of the show. It was the first piece of media that I saw bits of myself in.
Her breakdown with her husband about missing so many important memories made me honestly tear up a bit. And finally got me to admit to some loved ones that I didn't remember important events that we shared. I had faked remembering these things, and it got me to unravel some of that shame and took a weight off my shoulders.
I know it gets a lot of shit, and there are definitely things it deserves shit for (especially how it handles persecutors). But I just...honestly enjoyed it. I find a lot of trashy "everybody sucks" tv to be touching at times. A lot of the times the reason people suck is somehow connected to trauma, and while that's absolutely not an excuse, it gives the show some space to explore some more stigmatized and complicated trauma symptoms. I dunno. I totally get why some people hate this genre of tv, it's not for everyone, but I really enjoy it sometimes.
Sorry this got ramble-y. Hope you have a good day.
Thank you so much for this ask Siorai, I was really worried my points would be offbase because of the general idea people had of it throughout the wider community! I’m glad you agree about season 3 as well, it realllly needed more time and grace to handle the subject with
Weird thing to say probably but I wanted to mention that specific breakdown because it resonated so much with me too. I think at one point she mentions feeling like even when she is there, shes not really, and ugh. That punched me in the feels ;~; tara gets it. I’m sooo glad it was a jumping off point that you could talk to loved ones about 💛💛
Im gonna be really honest, I think because they handled it with the whole ‘everyones shit but also struggling’ is what resonated with me so strongly too. I love family shows but I can never connect, it looks fake to me. The Gregson’s drama and turmoil is really really relatable for a family thats healing from trauma. I think it just made me root for them more when they got their little wins. So yeah, I liked it a lot in the general handling, despite the massive flaws.
Thank you for your rambly ask, I love having wordy conversations about these things 💛 I’m glad my POV made sense n hit some good points for you too

TV: Marshall Gregson
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
