Seven Stages of... Becoming an RA Pt 1

I was so excited I got an email saying "RA Offer." I ran from my bedroom and told my Mother. I was so excited because I tried the year prior and did not get in. I told one of my friends from the Lazer Tag Boys, I wanted to share the news. My friend's first response was...

"What dorm?"

"Skywalk." I said.

"Boo you whore." They groaned

After the news spread of me becoming an RA, my new nickname became The Opp. I was isolated from my friends because we all lived in the same dorm, and I moved to the new dorm building. My side of the hall that I was in charge of was quiet, no one interacted with each-other. It was post lockdowns, and our college had a silly rule that didn't make sense when you really think about it. We couldn't have outside visitors from other dorm buildings but you could interact with each other in your own dorm building, academic buildings, and student center.

So what did we do?

The Lazer Tag Boys were schemers, who schemed a scam of scanning IDs. They would drop an ID from an open window; then the person who wanted to get in would wear a hoodie and a mask concealing their face. The door people would let them in. The Lazer Tag Boys would let in multiple people in using two to three cards for like eight people who wanted to get in.

What I did was go in the 24 hour Science building and my friend Richie and I would look at weird Youtube videos. While I was sleep deprived, and Richie was high as a kite at 1 a.m.

** I remember when me and Richie watched this and it took him 20 minutes to figure out that it was looped and over four hours long he still never forgives me for letting him watch the ending to this lol. **

Still I was isolated, I barely knew anyone on my floor except for my old suite mates from my first semester of Freshman year. These two suite mates who fought with each other, because one person couldn't keep the bathroom clean. The bathroom was utterly filthy and an extreme biohazard, if I really described what I saw I would get reported for cyberbullying on Tumblr. And then there was Matt who lived across from me...

He was my stalker, he invited me into his dorm saying he had a whole bottle of some cheapo vodka to himself and that he wanted to share with me. Bloody Ruby Woo Dorothy's Slippers Scarlet Letter Red Flag, I declined his seedy offer. He would not stop bothering me after he invited me, I ignored him after that.

Matt would constantly get locked out! I was so scared one time he got locked out of his room, that he might push me in his room and do who knows what. Our dorm rooms had a tiny 4x4 hallway that had three doors, two leading to the actual room and one to the bathroom. He got locked out of his bedroom and I was so scared because there are no cameras in the room. They call it paranoid, I call it prepared.

He kept begging me to go out with him and I declined. I told one of my RA co-workers at the time about this. She was an art major, and lived on the lower levels of the building. She was a sister figure I was always trying to search for, a friend I was hoping to have. Her catchphrases was "You should pull your cards.! Bring your cards.!" She would always ask my tarot cards about her romantic woes. She slept with her resident(s). One of her resident's had a girlfriend who went to our rival school, the less diverse version of our school people swore was "better".

** My tarot card spread on my bed **

The same resident who had a girlfriend turned to me and asked me for my number... I declined. I told "Big Sis" that I was on Girl Code and I didn't want to talk to someone that my friend (Her) was messing around with. She laughed in my face and waved her hand dismissively.

She said that "There's no girl code."

I would always read her cards even though my ancestors did not like her and I ignored my intuition. I wanted a friend, I wanted to be liked.

ok i admit i dont really go for urban fantasy and the combat/fighting scenes in it were rough and i thought some of the plot was dumb but the first book in the tarot sequence got me??? like a solid 3.5/5 which given my innate distaste for UF is p damn high. it's about the RELATIONSHIPS. the rune-brand brother bond and how they understand each other and love each other and fight and cuss each other out and care so deeply and apologize and work around each other's trauma and triggers. addam's priority always being his brother. THE TERRIBLE DELIGHTFUL TEENS MAX AND QUINN. whatever the fuck is going on with ciaran i adore him. the 20+ yr recovery arc. the magic system with the sigils and courts based on the major arcana. the INSANE amount of plot bombs dropped in the book 1 epilogue. everyone is so traumatized and yet they get up and they try. ive only had max for a day and a half etc etc etc

like. it is dark and heavy and holy holy shit content warnings abound i would not actually /recommend/ it to most ppl because of that, but it's not grimdark. terrible unspeakable things happen and keep happening and yet there is tentative hope of ending the cycle or at least saving a few kids and building a home and there's love and accidental child acquisition and idk ik ive been real tired lately and it's no masterpiece. but it hit in some kind of way i wasnt expecting it to

I did a grief tarot reading because of OFMD s2e8

spreads: general grief spread, easing grief, healing the wound, finding calm in dark times, hope, summary of challenges, past-present-future summary of the whole reading.

This is called "a spread for grief".

The immediate card is 4 of Cups, which I am interpreting as a commentary on the kind of grief we have. "You have had it with [the given] relationship. It's going nowhere and has nothing to offer—or so you think. Before writing it off, think about what you've put into the relationship and how you'd really feel if it was over. If it's done, it's done. If not, do your part to revitalize it. You'll both be happier in the long run". I interpret the relationship at hand to be our relationships with OFMD fan content creation.

The leftmost card, XI Justice recommends we consider the future ramifications of all of our possible choices when deciding how to behave in a situation. Understanding what power we do have in this situation is important, because it leads us to potential outlets for our feelings. It's very important that we think about how we behave while we grieve.

The center card, X Wheel of Fortune, reminds us to look for lessons in our sadness and opportunities for growth. The position of this card means that this reminder may help us with self care.

The rightmost card, XVI The Tower, acknowledges that this is a worldview-shifting loss. "Some belief that we hold dear, that is a deep part of how we define ourselves, is being called into question." We should keep in mind that sometimes destruction is necessary to create a new understanding, which may serve us better.

The bottom card, 2 of Wands (reversed), asks us to decide whether we are willing to make a commitment to a changed route. It is probable that we will not regret making a change. It is worth considering that this may be a new or a broken partnership of some sort.

This is called "easing grief"

The leftmost card, Queen of Pentacles asks us to remember what we are good at. She has a lot to do with creation and accolades, like making an impressive craft that people enjoy. We might interpret this card as a recommendation to remember the skills and recognition that this fandom has helped us grow. The positivity and care for each other that we have developed, the nurturing environments that have been ideal for improving our crafts and making community.

The center card, Ace of Swords, gives us something new and positive to look forward to. We have a new challenge which can be addressed through thought/the mind, and it is entirely possible to find healthy ways to face the challenge or cope with/solve the problem.

The rightmost card, XXI The World asks us not to let go of our goal of Becoming. Remember what we've been working towards all along. That idea is still helpful, still relevant, and still worth striving toward. Whether that's improving our crafts, making our community, or growing as individuals, it's all worth considering part of our future. A second card came with that one. XVII The Star reminds us of our hope. A time of safety and peace is attainable now in order to look toward that dream of attaining The World.

This spread is called "healing the wound".

The top card, XVII The Star says that it's hard to release our old hope, that OFMD would be... everything we wanted from a queer show. Our pain is represented by XXI The World, which as we already know is so central to this conversation. We are scared that everything we've been working toward is worthless now.

The bottom cards give us ways to address that pain and begin healing. IX The Hermit says to take time re-evaluating our knowledge and understanding of the world. It's a very good reaction to XVI The Tower, which represents the major shift in understanding we are going through (from the first spread).

3 of Pentacles reminds us: "You have many wonderful skills, and now is the time to put them to good use. Work carefully and thoroughly, doing the best you can. Create things that are useful and things that bring joy to your life. Experience the pleasure of doing something well."

The Queen of Wands reminds us to help by doing, to express ourselves creatively, and to move again after lying still. She also wants us to accept help from each other and keep building community.

This spread is called "finding calm in dark times", and i used my LOTR deck.

A personal strength we should celebrate: V The Hierophant (reversed) represents accepting a lesson. (The card is represented by Elrond, a teacher).

A source of support to utilize: Knight of Wands represents a respite in the form of following a rush of creative inspiration, the pursuit of your latest idea. A secondary card is 8 of Pentacles (reversed) which says not to worry about how hard this pursuit is; you may focus too much on minor details and overanalyze mistakes and forget to look at the bigger picture of progress—if you don't succeed at this creative inspiration, that is OKAY. You might consider a new approach to it, or just set it aside. Maybe just do it for fun. (Knight of Wands is Tom Bombadil).

A reminder to help you stay grounded: 8 of Wands (reversed) there will be barriers between you and the finish line, but you will overcome them. Just be patient.

A step you can take to care for yourself: 3 of Swords says that it is important to take time to mourn, to accept support from loved ones, and to move through the cycles of grief. You are reminded to do the same (as Théoden after hearing about Boromir, if that example is helpful) and remember to express sadness and honor your feelings. You will be stronger for it.

"A spread for hope"

4 of Wands reminds us of our recent milestones, and to value food, cheer, songs, and friends.

10 of Pentacles tells us to embrace the fruits of our efforts and our community and legacy. We may consider how to use our resources to help others.

2 of Pentacles tells us that something useful to do/offer is consider the beginning of a new journey and to be patient with ourselves. It might be helpful to start journaling and take notes about what we have to do and accomplish each day.

The new moon is a time for a fresh start, but it can be hard to see where we're heading.

We're going through a transition period. Be aware of whether you're struggling to move on/forward.

We need to gain that momentum, even though it's hard. The best thing to do is to keep going.

Sometimes it's not helpful to strive to feel grateful when we're down. It definitely doesn't help to get mired in guilt about ungratefulness. It's okay to just mostly feel hurt and angry. But it also might make us feel better to remember what we do feel grateful for. The positives: the friendships, the finished fan creations, everything I've talked about so far.

(These symbols can be good to meditate on if you have trouble with any of these ideas).

These symbols are a really good past-present-future summary of all of the spreads I've done in this reading.

We should remember our successes in terms of the realization of our past goals.

As a first step we should acknowledge our troubles and contact people for help.

Finally, we should consider our emerging journey.

Seven Stages of... Shock and Denial

Investigations were had, searching for that damn master keycard. Nothing turned up. I asked my one friend Xandra if she could possibly ask the cards "where is the keycard? Am I going to get fired?" I asked her over the phone, and I didn't know what the actual spread looked like. My whole livelihood and job was on the line, and these tarot cards could possibly give me a direction on where to go. I had no answers... no clue on what exactly happened...

Like I was there, but I wasn't. I was totally removed from the situation. Like in Mario Kart when you play against yourself in ghost trails.

Xandra was one of the few tarot card readers on campus that I knew. There was a few more, but I was the closest to her at the time. She was a girl who was apart of the Lazer Tag boys like me, but not really apart of it. She had her own friend group, one apparently that she turned two of her "guy best friends" in the group against each other. By dating them and breaking their hearts. I never really thought of it really, as I was dealing with my own heartbreak.

Xandra helped me with my worst heartbreak (at the time), it was messy and along with being stuck with my Mother. I got my heartbroken over text, I thought at the time I wasn't meant to be in a stable(ish) relationship. A whole lockdown ruined my chances of having something normal. Which felt unfair, it was drilled into my head as a teenager that I was going to have a "college sweetheart." I wanted to wash my hands of the abusive relationships of the past, and have something "normal."

She would say to me about my ex "He isn't shit// You can do so much better// He's ugly." At the time, I thought that was better, and I was doing better.

Despite helping me with my woes, Xandra and I would have late night excursions doing typical late 2010's early 2020's post-lockdown college girl shit. Except stealing traffic cones and dumbshit like that. It was a vibe... at the time. She even gifted me The Modern Witch Tarot Cards deck for my birthday. Another Blue themed deck to add to my Blue Tarot card collection, despite me not trying to have blue tarot cards. It just happened that way I guess.

So, she was a shufflin' the cards, as my stomach was a shufflin' too. I don't remember much from the spread but I do remember one card.

The chariot, which the interpretation of that card for the question meant that; the key was lost either in my car, or on my way from the hill to my dorm building. I had checked multiple times for the key, I still couldn't find it.

"Am I going to be fired?"

Xandra told me multiple times that I was "fine"

Everyone told me that I was going to be fine, despite my intuition saying otherwise.

Big Sis told me I was going to be fine.

My RD after the initial investigation meeting told me I was going to be fine.

My friends told me I was going to be fine.

So, fine I let it go. The keycard was replaced at this point, and everything blew over right?

It was my turn to take over the office for "Active RA Duty" my co-worker had left her email open. I caught a glance of "RA Summer Position Offer." as I closed her email and signed into mine. I didn't have that same position extended to me.

I thought it was weird, but shrugged it off. However, I heard from another RA from an old building that she got it. I also heard another RA got the email too from another dorm building as well, along with all of the RAs from my dorm building got the offer.

"So why didn't I get the email?" I asked Big Sis, as I was shuffling and preparing my tarot cards. Because, once again she asked for another love reading about her affair with her resident. She told me that maybe they asked seasoned residents, she shrugged.

"Anyway about my question, Wha-"

I interrupted her, for once I wanted MY questions to be answered correctly. I asked the cards... What is going to happen about the key situation? About my job?

I don't remember much about that tarot spread, but I can tell you about the weather outside that day. I can tell you how her room was setup, where she was sitting in her room, and what was on her TV at the time. But I do remember this card coming up and gasping.

Upright meaning: heartbreak, separation, sadness, grief, sorrow, upset, loss, trauma, tears.

I covered my hand on my mouth, there was no other meaning to interpret that. Big Sis still, reassuring me that everything was going to be fine.

About how I read:

I believe that divination is not just getting to know a future set in stone, but that it can be a way to make sense of what feels bigger than us, and even learn how to play with it.

Your reading won't say “this is definitely going to happen to you”; it'll be more along the lines of understanding your circumstances and what will most probably happen if you keep on that path, or choose another one, and how to go about it. It's all about freewill and helping get some perspective and the power to accept or change it.

With that said, I will also never tell you that “you control your reality 100%”, “everything in your life is manifested by your thoughts”, or similar bullshit. We don't live in a perfect world with a fair socioeconomical system where everyone has the same opportunities, and such harmful and ableist ideas are not welcome in this space.

Temperance Reversed

If you have recently experienced a period of excess, Temperance Reversed is your invitation (or sometimes, your warning signal) to restore balance and moderation as soon as possible.
