Hi, I finally had time to try my hand at art again, it's not great but I think it's a marked improvement of my last attempt.
Tumblr media
Once again it's based off this design

I know we’re all having a lot of fun mocking Anime Twink Deathstroke, but can we talk about what an excellent decision that actually is? Among DC villains, Deathstroke has some of the best age progression— his first appearance with the Teen Titans has him in his late thirties, maybe early forties, and recent comics have him look to be at least fifty or sixty. So when you take that in the other direction and put him in his early twenties, it really sells that these are the early days of the DC universe.
Honestly, I’m in love with everything about these villain choices. Lex Luthor might be the obvious villain for a Superman story, but having his first enemies be Amanda Waller and Task Force X— the Suicide Squad? That’s fucking poetry. That’s saying “in an immigrant story, the first enemy is the government”. That is understanding the assignment!

Some cool Easter eggs I caught watching My Adventures with Superman that I want to show to people so they can be in on it with comic book readers pt2
Episode 1 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 3 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 4 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 5 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 6 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 7 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here and here
Episode 8 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 9 of My Adventure with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 10 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
(SPOILERS obviously):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An obvious one, but a classic, the "up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!" line reference. This one never gets old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimmy next name drops Flamebird. in the comics Nightwing and Flamebird were Kryptonian superheroes adopting their names from a species of Kryptonian birds. This is where Dick Grayson gets his Nightwing identity from. The page here is from Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #17 (1986) drawn by Curt Swan and Karl Kesel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the climatic battle of part 2 of Adventures of a Normal Man, we see Leslie Willis become blue and look more like her traditional Livewire look. Her first appearance was in Superman the Animated Series, season 2 episode 5 "Livewire" where she was voiced by Lori Petty, a.k.a. Tank Girl. In the show Leslie was a shock jock radio DJ slinging hot takes live on air knocking down Superman a peg or two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously MAwS took Leslie in a whole different direction, design choice, and occupation change, but I am excited to see what happens next for her.
Tumblr media
Before we see Clark battle Leslie we see this guy. White hair, wears orange and black, its Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke. This fool here in like 20 to 25 years will have his life spiral out of control and get his ass kicked by a bunch of colorfully dressed teenagers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deathstroke makes his first appearance in New Teen Titans #2 (1980) (W: Marv Wolfman and George Perez, P: George Perez, I: Romeo Tanghal, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Ben Oda) where he is hired by H.I.V.E. to kill the Teen Titans. In the comics he's a major piece of shit, but a damn good assassin.
Tumblr media
After the fight we see Supes clean up and he picks up a billboard that reads Amazotech.
Tumblr media
This is a good reference to Professor Anthony Ivo, a mad scientist of the DC Universe who built the Amazo robot who could adapt and replicate any power that the Justice League has and weaknesses. Both Ivo and the Amazo robot make their first appearances here in Brave and the Bold #30 (1960) with the cover art done by Mike Sekowsky and Murphy Anderson.
Tumblr media
At the end of the episode Slade name drops Task Force X better known as the Suicide Squad. The name "Suicide Squad" is from the Brave and the Bold #25 where it was the name of Rick Flag's unit in the military. The Suicide Squad pop culture knows first debuted in Legends #3 (1987) as seen below (W: John Ostrander and Len Wein, P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: Steve Haynie).
Tumblr media
The team at this time was composed of Rick Flag, Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Enchantress, and Blockbuster. The team members have changed out with each new Task Force X/Suicide Squad iteration.
Tumblr media
Behind Slade, here is Amanda Waller, the most fearsome woman in the DC universe. She's ruthless, politically powerful, and will not hesitate to blow up anyone in the Suicide Squad if they screw up. She makes her first appearance in Legends #1 (1987) same comic series in the previous picture. Very excited to see where My Adventures with Superman goes with this cuz you don't see Superman interact with Deathstroke or Suicide Squad all the often.

The fact Task Force X's holding facility is directly under the spot where they all ganged up on superman is hilarious. That means they loaded him up on a helicopter, flew him to someplace outside city limits, loaded him onto a secret underground transport, and brought him back to the exact same fucking spot.

Part 4 of me showing how DC's tend to be more sympathetic or at least more fun than their heroes (based on me playing Lego DC Supervillians). Mostly Flash Villians and Suicide Squad characters, this time:
Mirror Master: There's been two mirror masters. Sam Scudder and Evan McCullough. Skimming wikipedia, Sam Scudder seems pretty boring. He's just a simple convict who has mirror powers. But Evan McCullough (the one in the Lego game), oh boy. He was an orphan who was sexually assaulted at 8 years old and figured out who his parents were just to see them both die. That's all kinds of messed up, and it makes him incredibly sympathetic.
Killer Frost: There's been a few Killer Frosts (according to wikipedia), but the one trend I see: they're usually always scientists who get themselves in horrible accidents. I believe the current Killer Frost is Caitlin Snow, and wikipedia says her whole thing is that she's basically a vampire for heat due to a botched arctic experiment. And that's incredibly tragic.
Deadshot: Deadshot seems like he's got a really messed up backstory. A rich but negligent and abusive family, his mother tried to get his brother to kill his father. When he tried to stop them, he ended up killed his brother. That's incredibly dark and sad. Also, I think he has a kid whom he actually cares about. Which is sweet. At least he's possibly trying to be better than what came before him?
Captain Boomerang: Captain Boomerang actually does seem like a not great guy. He hates being ridiculed and grew up in poverty, but (at least in the comics, according to wikipedia) he's also a jerk. But he is fun and very entertaining, so I'll give him that.

DC Comics Incorrect Quotes Pt 87
Tim: If I was omnipotent for a day I'd make myself omnipotent forever.
Bernard: See, there's always one guy. "If I had a wish I'd wish for three more wishes."
Harley: You think the wind is ever trying to tell us something and we don't know how to hear it anymore?
Flag: I just want you to stop saying odd shit.
Constantine: Wish I was drunk at a party explaining msg to someone.
Xanthe: *takes a shot* So imagine if everyone suddenly thought table salt could kill you but only when Chinese people use it.
Xanthe: Oh. You're talking about video games and not monosodium glutamate.
Constantine: No, go on.

(SPOILERS if you haven't seen the show yet):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After what happened to Clark in the last episode we see that Lois, Jimmy, and the Newskid Legion are searching all over Metropolis for him and they name drop some location found in Metropolis.
Tumblr media
As you can see from the map of Metropolis in the DC Heroes role playing manual, Park Ridge and Bakerline are one of the six boroughs of Metropolis. Park Ridge makes its first appearance in the Adventures of Superman #447 (1988) while Bakerline first appeared in Action Comics #599 (1988)
Tumblr media
As the General is interrogating Clark we het a hologram flashback to his time with Waller in the army and Waller name drops the General's first name Sam. So we can conclude that the General is General Sam Lane (this is double confirmed in the next episode).
Sam Lane makes his first appearance in the silver age in Superman Girl Friend, Lois Lane #13 (1959). He's the typical farmer dad that Superman saves and meets. Nothing too special about it.
Now, GENERAL Sam Lane makes his first appearance in the Adventures of Superman #424 (1986)
Tumblr media
Like her MAwS counterpart, Lois' relationship with her dad is VERY strained as you can tell by the panels here from the comic (W: Marv Wolfman, P: Jerry Ordway, I: Mike Machlan, C: Tony Ziuko, L: John Costanza). In the comics he wanted a son and Lois became that stand-in whenever he was around and that ruined their familial relationship. And much like his MAwS counterpart he deeply cares about his wife who we can assume he lost some time ago in the past. Also will we see a Lucy Lane in MAwS? Who knows.
Tumblr media
Man of Steel, typical moniker for Superman, you're guaranteed to have that in any Superman media.
Tumblr media
Slade actually loses his eye to match his comic book counterpart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later in the ep we see him with the eyepatch. Matches with his comic book counterpart as seen in this fantastic piece by Deathstroke co-creator, George Perez.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the Superman Revenge Squad Task Force X escape thanks to Ivo absorbing more and more electrical energy he comes this giant kaiju sized monster rampaging across Metropolis with an axe to grind at Superman. The glowy bits on him remind me so much of Shin Godzilla. Oh and btw if you want to see the Justice League fight 2 very well known kaiju, preorder Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong. Heres the trailer for it:
youtube
The first issue goes on sale in October 17th.
Tumblr media
With the way Lois is worried about Clark here it gives off very Death of Superman vibes kinda like this page from Superman #75 (1992) by Dan Jurgens, Brett Breeding, Glenn Whitmore, and John Costanza.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimmy is usually labeled as Superman's best friend/pal so that's a given when a reference like that shows up
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the names scrolled up on Jimmy's IG-esque live stream we see some familiar names. The first is a reference Josie Campbell, the producer for the cartoon and the latter two are references to Superman support characters.
Pete Ross is Clark's childhood friend who first appeared in Superboy #86 (1960) by Robert Bernstein and George Papp.
Tumblr media
In the comic Pete keeps scrutinizing Clark and he suspect that Pete might be on to his Superboy identity, but it turns out he just wanted Clark to play Superboy in the high school play. In like most Superman origins and media, Pete Ross is always Clark's best friend, but here in MAwS Jimmy takes up that role as friend of Clark but in this case its since they were in freshmen year of college.
Like Pete Ross, Lana Lang was also a childhood friend of Clark's ad also his love interest when they were teenagers.
Tumblr media
Lana makes her first appearance in Superboy #10 (1950) by Bill Finger, John Sikela, and Ed Debrotka. In the comic Lana becomes a house guest for the Kents while her parents are away and she begins to suspect Clark and Superboy are the same person. Most Superman origins and other media usually have Lana and Clark be childhood sweethearts back in Kansas and she will occasionally show up in Clark's life again when they are adults.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Clark punches through the Parasite body to get to Ivo we see the body just freeze there kinda like Shin Godzilla at the end of the movie. Btw go watch Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, Shin Kamen Rider, fantastic trio of movies! Shin Ultraman is a better Superman movie than Man of Steel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the ep Amanda Waller takes over Task Force X and name drops Checkmate. The organization first appeared in Action Comics #598 (1988) (cover by John Byrne) where Checkmate is a branch of Task Force X that was founded by Amanda Waller as a government intelligence agency. Like with most spy organization in the DC universe, they are shady AF. In their debut they legit kill a high ranking official from a different country in the name of "American safety".
Thank you for getting this far down in the post. Be sure to check out the other posts to see what other easter eggs and references were in the previous episodes:
