This simple trick makes your Coffee taste better.
Don’t you just love coffee? But have you tried the real state of coffee, not masked by the bitterness, the real pure taste. Only then you’ll know what everyone who was dazed with different types of coffee was talking about. We’ve always added ilk and sugar to remove the bitterness and tweaked the flavour but there’s something else. Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world, but it…

i think google earth is one thing that i would like to not take for granted. i remember pre-google earth times when my dad would tell me about the civil engineering projects he worked on in a different state as a young engineer. i also remember hearing stories from my mom about running errands in CDMX for her grandmother as a kid or swimming in the water in Acapulco. after I learned how to use google earth i asked my dad to show me where the dam he designed was and he was so skeptical at first!!! i dont blame him!
i also remember when my family used skype for the first time. it was a video call like any other but it had that uneasy sense of technological trepidation i imagine in the early telegraph and telephone offices.
the level of connection we have now is incredible, the access we have to others around the globe is astounding. what a cure for provinciality and small-mindedness!
turn on street view in Kerala or Papua New Guinea or Paris or better yet, turn on street view on back country roads in Italy or at the edge of a cliff in Chongqing. see the world and taste the similarities, imagine the smell of foreign grasses, hear the familiar sound of children laughing around a street corner. watch the road signs, wonder if people in this locale always drive a fair bit above the speed limits like you do.
think about waste, notice the neon coca cola sign above the local beer-hall. think about hegemony, spot the plastic chairs, you know the ones. think about poverty and all the dirt roads and towns-of-shanty that support your big tower PC and family computer in the office where your mother will job search after getting laid off in 2009.
zoom back out. spin that tiny blue marble around. find your home, but don’t zoom in too quickly. try to look through the windows, imagine the streetview car just outside. do you want to greet it or close your blinds?

Rhythmic beats and vibrant melodie
When it comes to event management, music and entertainment in Kerala are like the cherry on top of a perfectly baked cake. They provide the extra bit of flavour that makes the event truly memorable and enjoyable for all guests.
Live music bands  or solo musicians are a great way to add an element of live performance to the event. Imagine a jazz band serenading guests as they sip on cocktails or a rock band pumping up the crowd with their energy and stage presence. Live music can set the tone and create an atmosphere that guests will never forget.
DJ services are another popular music and entertainment in Kerala, it is the best option for events.
DJs can play a mix of songs that cater to the guests’ preferences and get everyone dancing. They can give the celebration a twist when they add their own remixes making it distinctive.
Different types of events may require different kinds of music and entertainment in Kerala. For example, a corporate event may require more subtle and sophisticated music, while a party or wedding may require more lively and upbeat music.
Selecting the right music for any event is extremely important. We have to make sure that it fits the occasion and the ambience. Music has the ability to set the mood of the event and that is why it is crucial to select something according to the target audience’s tastes.
DJs are always in high demand, because of their diverse sense of music and mixing. They just keep the party going. Melodia’s expert planners pick someone with enough knowledge, experience and understanding of the overall event.

Munnar is a destination that seeps into your soul, leaving behind an indelible stamp of serenity and wonder.
A Tapestry of Tea
Munnar's emerald crown is woven from its sprawling tea plantations. Walking through these endless rows of tea bushes is an invigorating experience. The lush aroma of the leaves mingles with the crisp mountain air, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized. A visit to a tea factory is a must, where you can witness the transformation of these delicate leaves into the beverage that fuels our mornings.

Munnar is not just about basking in the beauty of nature. It's a playground for adventure seekers and thrill enthusiasts. Trek through the dense forests of Eravikulam National Park, home to the elusive Nilgiri tahr. For the romantics, a boat ride on Kundala Lake, surrounded by misty mountains, is an experience that will forever be etched in your memory.
A Cultural Mosaic
Munnar's cultural tapestry is as rich and vibrant as its landscapes. Visit the colonial-era Christ Church, a testament to the town's British past. Immerse yourself in the vibrant hues of the Rose Garden, or delve into the fascinating history of tea at the Tea Museum. In the evenings, lose yourself in the rhythmic beats of Kathakali performances, a traditional Kerala dance form that tells stories through elaborate costumes and expressive movements.
A Culinary Journey
No trip to Munnar is complete without indulging in its delectable cuisine. Savor the flavors of a traditional Kerala 'sadhya,' a vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf, or tantalize your taste buds with spicy curries and fresh seafood. Don't miss the chance to try 'appam,' fluffy rice pancakes served with coconut milk stew, or 'kappa and meen,' a classic Keralan dish of tapioca and fish.
Munnar: A Haven for Every Soul
Whether you're a nature lover seeking solace, an adventurer chasing thrills, or a foodie on a culinary quest, Munnar has something to offer everyone. It's a place where time slows down, where worries melt away in the mist, and where memories are made to last a lifetime. So, pack your bags, lace up your hiking boots, and get ready to discover the magic of Munnar, the hill station where mist meets mountains and memories blossom.
Bonus Tip: Plan your trip to Munnar around the blooming of the Neelakurinji flowers, a rare spectacle that happens once every 12 years. The hills come alive with a vibrant blue hue, creating a scene of breathtaking beauty.

Maya Kaimal's interest in food has been prominent since her childhood. Her curiosity in spice, taste, and cooking first developed during family trips to Kerala, India.
Starting her career as a visual artist, Kaimal found herself drawn to the culinary arts when she saw the gap between what she grew up eating as traditional Indian food and what Western world interpretations of Indian food was. To help educate Western audiences and make Indian food more accessible, she wrote three cookbooks on the subject. Along with her husband Guy Lawson, Kaimal took family recipes to create her own line of Indian products that can be found in grocery stores across the world.

Savoring the Spice Coast of India: Fresh Flavors from Kerala -
Here in Special Collections, we have two of Maya Kaimal's cookbooks, including Savoring the Spice Coast of India: Fresh Flavors from Kerala.
According to Publishers Weekly, "With northern India's Moghul cuisine now a culinary mainstay in the U.S., Kaimal (Curried Favors) returns to her ancestral homeland on the southwestern edge of the country, where a greater emphasis is placed on ingredients such as coconut, tamarind, brown mustard seeds and curry leaves. (These last are so important that Kaimal even provides a source for curry leaf plants.)"

Your guide to Ayurvedic cooking.
A mouthful of good health
As hardcore carnivores, plant-based Ayurvedic cuisine based on India’s 5,000- year-old health regimen, was the stuff of our culinary nightmares.
And then we met Gita Ramesh, well-known author of three books including two cookbooks chock-full of recipes based on Ayurvedic principles of health. The one published recently — The Ayurvedic Wellness Cookbook, Recipes for Balance and Rejuvenation won the prestigious Gourmand Award 2023 — Diet and Vegetarian — at the UMEA Food event in Sweden.
In Ayurveda, the ancient twin of yoga, “One does not count calories but commits to a philosophy and way of life,” states Ms Ramesh in her book. Ms Ramesh is the joint managing director of the Kairali Ayurvedic Group, and co-founder of Kairali Healing Village in Palakkad, Kerala. She is also a bio-chemist and Ayurvedic practitioner, and her husband K. V. Ramesh comes from a line of Ayurvedic vaids (doctors).
After leafing through her magnum opus, and meeting her at Kairali Healing Village, our world view changed. Ms Ramesh explained that what and how you eat has the power to heal. We had been raised on meat- heavy fare — hefty pieces of chicken swimming in rich gravies; fried eggs plonked on vegetables to make greens more appetising, and lacy, batter-frilled cutlets glazed with a light film of oil.
Soon, we realised that the principle touted in the cook book was: “You become what you eat!” We were overweight and under-exercised. And so, we decided to try and reprogramme our taste buds by trying out some of her simple delicious recipes. Our journey on the road to culinary discovery had begun. Happily, enough, we felt satiated and energised rather than like prisoners on a starvation diet, out on parole!
Ms Ramesh’s book celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of plant-based Ayurvedic fare which many equate with boring boiled vegetables and drab wilted salads. An added asset is that the recipes are “simple to cook for healthy everyday eating and centred around the preventive aspect of Ayurveda,” she says in the introduction of the lush, beautifully designed book. The hard-cover volume hand-holds newbie converts to Ayurvedic cuisine and takes them through a master class on cooking and eating healthy. “An Ayurvedic diet is less of a diet and more of a philosophy — that eating should be a mindful, meditative experience,” she adds. Sitting in front of a TV, talking on the phone or listening to loud thumping music while you eat your quietly delicious meal is a no-no in Ayurveda. “Connect with the flavourful food you eat by being acutely aware of its colour, taste, nuance and texture,” says Ms Ramesh.
