Kavuni Arisi / Black Rice / கவுனி அரிசி Sweet Pongal
Ingredients:
Black Rice / Kavuni Arisi - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Pink Salt - a pinch
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Cashew(chopped) - 1/4 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Water - 1/2 cup
Nutmeg Powder - 1/4 tsp
Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp
Fresh Coconut(grated) - 1/2 cup
Origin:
Kavuni Arisi is a very special dish in chettinad. I has its origin from the Burmese influence of Chettinad. No Chettinad function is complete without Kavuni Arisi in its menu. Kavuni Arisi is made from a dark violet glutinous rice, which is a very rich source of "Vitamin B"
Benefits:
Karuppu Kavini rice is also called as Anti Oxidant as it fully packed with nutrients. Black kavuni has 18 amino acids, zinc that counts for immunity, iron that counts for carrying oxygen and the list goes like, copper, carotene, anthocyanin and several important vitamins.
