"It hurts, but I can bear it. Because I am a doll, and a servant. Because I am a pretty thing and a soldier, all the same."
Genya is a very powerful character, she had to go through so much pain... I feel so helpless knowing how she had to endure all the abuse from such a young age all by herself.
(Please tell me I wasn't the only one who read "The Tailor" and cried when reading about Genya and Tatiana😭)

Okay I haven't rly interacted with the grishaverse fandom in a LOOONG while BUT I have one thing to say. As most names in Ravka are russian (or from a different slavic language), there's a big error that I honestly have no idea how Leigh Bardugo overlooked. Most russian/slavic last names are gendered. Here's how ravkan women should have been named.
Nina Zenik - Nina Zenik (gender neutral surname).
Alina Starkov - Alina Starkovna (feminine patronymic form of Starkov).
Genya Safin - Genya Safina (feminine form of Safin).
Zoya Nazyalensky - Zoya Nazyalenska (feminine form of Nazyalensky).
Nadia Zhabin - Nadia Zhabin (I'm not sure about this one, it is a patronymic of Zhaba but I don't know if it's the feminine form).
Tatiana Lanstov - Tatiana Lanstova (feminine marital form of Lanstov).

Darklina Prompt
Day one of Darklina Week is royals and I had written a version of this idea before, so I though why not? My version of the movie "The Prince and Me" with bits and pieces of Hallmark modern royals movies
Aleksander Kirigan-Morozov is a prince of Ravka and second cousin to the King of Ravka, Pytor Lanstov. His mother is the cousin to the King while his father was a successful industrialist. Baghra had him educated abroad in London and he went to university in England as well. After he turned 18, he really didn't participate in many royal activities unless they were of personal significance or specific to the family. He currently lives in London where he runs his own financing company that focuses on charities and start up companies.
After Aleksander giving a speech at his alma mater, he literally crashes into one of the seniors, Alina. She is studying media and pr management, so she doesn't really know who he is. He insists on taking to lunch as an apology, where they spend hours talking. The rest is history.
A few years later, Crown Prince Vasily is in a car accident. He was at the race track and after losing repeatedly, got drunk. Somehow, he managed to ditch his security and drive off in one of the SUVs. Prince Nikolai is the only one who was able to be there quickly. While waiting for his parents, the doctors ask if he'll have his blood type tested because Vasily has B-negative blood and the hospital has a small supply because it is a very uncommon type. His parents arrive after he's tested and are tested as well after a quick explanation. Sadly, Vasily is pronounced to be brain dead. A few hours later, the heads of hematology and lab test approaches the king and explains some results that came out of their blood testing. It's discovered that Nikolai has type O but Petyor is type B and so is Tatiana. The lab ran the test 5 times to be sure and also performed a DNA test. Pytor marches into Vasily's room and demands the truth. Tatiana, terrified of her husband's anger, admits that she had an affair and Nikolai is not his son. Pytor has both of them thrown out and kept away from Vasily.
After Vasily's death, Pytor has no choice but to declare Aleksander the new heir to the throne, Ravka has a male primogeniture so Baghra is skipped over. He publically outs Tatiana's adultery and has her and Nikolai confined to their rooms.
Aleksander told Alina about his prince status but it made it sound like he was 100th in line for the throne. They have just moved in together when Aleksander got the call from his uncle. Aleksander only found out the full extend of the situation when they landed in Ravka.

Shadow and Bone S2 E4 recap
Spoiler alert
Oh, they did a recasting for Vasily who now has dark hair, unlike his parents. Alina dislikes Vasily but offers to lead the Grisha since the Lanstovs want a Second Army commander loyal to them and she is Nikolai’s fiancée. Mal is against this as making her General will put an even bigger target on her back but Alina wants to protect the Grisha. Vasily manages to learn about Malina since they were having a moment in a hallway rather than a room. Genya still looks beautiful to me. Her and Kirigan’s scars do not make them ugly. Frankly I’m more worried about Baghra’s finger and Genya’s right eye. Seriously Kirigan, you could have chosen a lighter punishment for your mother! Imprisonment was enough! Baghra seems to care about Genya now. Aleksander calls out Baghra for protesting his plans because she made him this way. Baghra finally gives up on him. I have my doubts about Vladim. It looks like he wants Baghra’s power. And the bone crushing scene was horrifying. David warns Alina and she imprisons him after Nadia informs her that Kirigan keeps his close. Honestly, if that was obvious, he would make a horrible choice for spy. David refuses to teach Alina merzost but warns her about the tether. Nina knows Pekka cannot free Matthias and warns Kaz. Kaz has released a fake firepox that will be blamed on Pekka and threatens his son Alby. Wow, we actually got the Pekka showdown in Crooked Kingdom without the Jurda yet…
Tumblr media
Pekka loses the respect of his men
Mal wants to find the special blade that might kill nichevo’ya. I’m not gonna say the name cos then I have to repeat it and it’s long. Anyway, Tolya and Zoya will go to the Crows to hire them for the job. Unless the blade was made with merzost, it will be useless. Vasily did his research and has Mal arrested for desertion. Dude, if you’re going to seduce Alina, don’t arrest her boyfriend! He is an idiot. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Jesper and Wylan kiss! 😄 now where are Ivan and Fedyor? Kaz kicks Inej out of the Crows after she made him worry with a detour. She is a free woman. Seriously, Nikolai giving Alina her ring has more chemistry than Malina. Alina starts getting worried about Mal’s absence, but no one is as concerned as she is. Oh, the siege and storm ending is here too. Only it’s at an engagement party rather than Nikolai’s birthday. And it’s still Vasily’s fault. Honestly, if he actually becomes king, Fjerda will crush him. I doubt even Kirigan could have reined him in if he were still General. Vasily dies and I’m not sure if the king still lives. Kirigan lures Alina away with an illusion so she will be away from the fighting and her head does some weird glowy thing. To Adrik, she must look unstable. While the invasion happens, Baghra takes advantage and frees herself and Genya, who heals her missing finger. (Seriously Kirigan, fixing her finger would have been better than figs!) Genya sees her reflection and destroys the Alkemi’s workstation in a fit of rage. You know the Darkling confrontation at the end, his S&S speech would work if Mal had been frightened of Alina’s power. But here it seems out of place. And considering book Alina had grown used to her imaginary Darkling, the offer to rule suited the book better than the show. It looks lika Nadia and Adrik are the only members of the Second Army who survived the engagement party. I don’t count Tamar and Alina since Tamar isn’t loyal to the second army, she’s loyal to Alina, and Alina wants to retire once the Fold is gone.
This certainly was a combo of endings from Crooked Kingdom and Siege and Storm. Looks like we get the Ruin and Rising arc next. This was too crammed, considering Alina’s relationship with the Darkling. His speech at the end is so out of place.
Well I can say this for Tatiana, she does love Nikolai, I think. I actually prefer book Baghra. I have not forgotten that Baghra only gave partial truths to Alina when Anastas was to blame for the Fold, and that she tried to kill Mal. The fact that Baghra gives up on her son now makes me unhappy. If you’re responsible for how he came to be, you don’t give up, you try to save him. Poor Tolya. None of his friends like poetry Pekka is a villain for sure but he does love his son and while I think it is good he knows his son is alive, I find that having Alby witness his arrest is too cruel.
Ooh, is David back under Kirigan’s power now?

Note
Since becoming a mother herself is Alina wanting to now find out more information about her own parents, so she can at least telling Nadya about her maternal grandparents? I feel like she would especially like to know more about her Shu mom and Shu culture in general. She seemed really said when she admitted to Tatiana Lanstov she didn't even know the language. Alina seems to have an interest in linguistics since she understood Old Ravkan fluently enough to sass that racist maid.
Definitely not right away. The year or so after Nadya's birth is spent with overthrowing the Lantsovs/settling in her new role as Tsaritsa. This is a time when she has to focus on the now (and partially the future)--she cannot afford to ponder about the past. To make things even more difficult: how would it look if the new Ravkan queen suddenly showed great interest in Shu culture? She needs to be abso-fucking-lutely Ravkan, because, despite her ethnicity, that's what the people of Ravka need.
Maybe later on--maybe when Nadya is old enough to realize that she is different from other kids, and not only because she's a princess. When she starts asking questions. Now, that would be a time to explore their heritage together.

TATIANA LANTSOV
TWENTY ❈ HUMAN THE ROYAL COURT | LADY-IN-WAITING/PRINCESS’ CONFIDANTE
She was a beautiful baby -- not in the way that is generally believed to be beautiful, the kind of beauty that is lied about only because people feel it necessary to say that the miracle of life is something wondrous to behold. No, she was a truly beautiful baby, despite the ugly tune that she wailed so cantankerously. Her eyes shown bright and engaging, demanding that each person in the room hold her gaze. Her nose slightly peaked so as to hint at some royally descended heritage. Even the queen herself had to remark that she looked more like a princess than her own children did -- it was nothing more than a joke, a remark meant to coo and preen the feathers of her sister and the newborn child. But it stuck, as surely as disease rooted itself in a bushel of roses. A princess she was told she was, and a princess is what she believed herself to be. The entitlement was there in every demand she made as she grew up ( I want another pony, father, not just a fat, old one ) and as she grew older ( I will have who I see fit and the only one I want is him! ). The brown eyes that were once thought to be warm and engaging had a way of making even the sun itself seem like something cold and distant.
Not many understood how it happened, the coldness in her eyes that seemed to be rival the tundra of Fjerda itself. But, there were some servants who whispered that they could see it growing, like dark, green ivy upon a wall. It grew slowly, assuredly -- no one able to see it, not even the monster who it afflicted. It began when she was five, chasing after her cousins in the corridors of the court. Occasionally, they would run into this ambassador or that general. Oh, how they would sing the praises of the Lanstov children, the revered name a sweet tune on their tongue. But she? Their eyes would pass over her like a painting people had seen one too many times. The emotion of the painting generic. The beauty of it? Even more so. Her name was not a prize held on the tips of their tongues, but a thing as common as salt, as unwanted as bile. That was where it began, but that is not where it ended. This instances were as numerous as the stars, as hated as them too. How they mocked her, watching her in her embarrassing demise -- the poor, tragic princess who could never be.
But she learned that there were ways to defy what the path that the stars had set out for her. There was a way to grab them by their fading light and force them to succumb to the weight of her fingertips, the pressure of her thumb. It began with her voice -- it demanded, beguiled, and terrified. Whether she had it shrieking to the high heavens at a Grisha servant who had grown too careless or it hissed in a low, crooning tune -- mocking yet another potential suitor for her cousins. Then there was the way in which she carried herself; the fine cloth that caressed the soft curves of her skin, the jewels that graced her porcelain neck, kissing her skin as if it was not worthy. And it wasn’t. No one was. Not the Lantsov cousins with whom she once associated with as if they were closer than siblings, not the king nor the queen that had once sat upon the throne. She defied them in word, thought, and deed should she only dare to scream loud enough to demand it. That, the servants said, is when the dark, green ivy covered the wall and the windows that might have allowed some semblance of light. That, the servants said, is when the monster became shrouded in darkness. The darkness of ignorance, the darkness of envy.
They wonder how her throat does not ache for shrieking at the servants so often and so long. Those who interact with her daily now know that it is better to muffle the harpy-like squawks by covering their ears rather than subjecting themselves to her brand of torture. When her rose-red lips open, many have learned that one of two things are likely to spill from them: either a harsh cacophony of demands or a symphony of reprimands. Either the way, the song that she sings has never once been a lamentation of the lives lost or the souls forgotten in the war and rampage that Ravka has suffered. She cares not for the people that languish in their woes and tribulations outside of the walls of Os Alta, no. What use is that to a woman whose heart is beset on the frivolous duties of a princess? War has not yet touched the chasms of her heart, nor has suffering. The only suffering she has ever known is that of being overlooked and ignored. But woe to anyone who now dares to do either.
CONNECTIONS
ANASTASIA LANTSOV: They do not know how to be a proper princess. Tatiana watches them with a look of revulsion that is often carefully masked by a torrent of sycophant comments. But it is rather hard to mask the revulsion once Anastasia dons the crown, the sparkling, glittering thing that Tatiana cannot help but look at so enviously. However, all she wants is to be ever-closer to the crown and the undeserving head that wears it. Sometimes, when Anastasia is out of the room, Tatiana places it upon her luscious, dark hair and twirls about. Basking in what could have been. What should be. Anastasia is the closest thing she has to a sibling. She’d sooner trade their life if it meant to wear that crown and sit upon the throne while people bowed in adoration. But, again, they are the closest thing she has to a sibling.
OYUN KIR-NARAN & RITA JAKOV: She considers them both to be her tea-time companions. Rita, less of a companion and more of a servant -- for who could ever think that she would dare consider a Grisha a friend? No, Oyun was more deserving of that title than Rita. Although she might remind Rita that it was necessary for her to strive for it -- the poor idiot often-times needed reminding. She was a bit slow that way, but, as her superior, it was Tatiana’s duty to make sure that she strove to better hself and her efforts since she was one of the only other Grisha who was allowed to reside with the humans. As for Oyun? Well, wasn’t it absolutely benevolent of Tatiana to take the foreigner under her wing? To speak with her and teach her the ways of the Ravkan court? Tatiana often wonders why they don’t dub her a saint here and now.
ILYA TSAROV: He’s her fiancé. He does not know it, nor has it been declared “official” but he is her fiancé. She knew it from the day they had met, when they were but children frolicking around Os Alta. He had been loathe to admit it -- and is still reluctant to do so -- but she knows that he is going to acquiesce to the arrangement of the marriage anyway. Sometimes she sees him trying to make her jealous, flirting with this half-wit tramp or that disgusting trollop, but she knows it is his version of foreplay. Trying to make her chase him when she need not to. But her patience is growing rather thin -- his time remaining single is wearing away as well.
TATIANA IS PORTRAYED BY BARBIE FERREIRA & IS OPEN.

Random Darklina Prompt that has been floating around my head for a while. And be warned, I have a tendency to write really long prompts
Genya's family was deposed and usurped by the Lanstovs when she was about 11. She, the Last Safin, was hidden away for her safety for the last 10 years by the Kostyk family in their small country estate. Small and far enough that the family is ignored but still able to hear news of all the horrible crimes of the Lanstovs. Tales are always reaching them of Petyor's gluttony and lust and Tatiana's constant spending which keeps the country bankrupt. The stories of how Vasily is nearly as bad as his father come too.
After 10 years, Duke Aleksander Morozov leads an army against the Lantsotv. He wins the battle but he did not have to worry. Most of the country hates them and they barely paid or fed their guards. Genya assumes her throne and take David as her husband, naming him prince consort and head alchemist (or some job where he gets to build stuff) while his foster sister, Alina Starkov becomes her head lady-in-waiting and a ward of the crown.
A few years later, Alina has had her coming out and is fending off suitors left and right. But there is really one who worries Genya, Mal. He is newly knight and his adventures in brothels are know to all. He did most of his squiring near the Kostyk estate so he is known to all 3 of them. Even then, Genya was disturbed by his inappropriate attenmpts to "flirt" with her.
At the same time, Aleksander has returned from putting down some attacks from Fjerda, who want to take down Genya just because she's a woman. He was even able to bring back a tentative peace treaty. Big celebration where Genya gets an idea. She decides to marry Alina to Aleksander, who she knows has a special fondness for Alina. And she knows that Alina has a small fancy for Aleksander and it would keep her away from Mal who she knows has incurred debts in the nearby village and a demand of satisfaction from an innkeeper who's daughter is with child by him.
She speaks to both of them the next afternoon, both are shocked by her decision, especially Alina but Genya manages to convince them. She sooths Alina fears and explains about the situations that she has had her spies discover about Mal. Alina is hurt but agrees to the betrothal which is announced that night.
Later that evening, Mal burst into the royal couple's chambers and demands that she cancel the betrothal and marry Alina to him. He says if she won't willingly, he take Alina and destroy her reputation and tell everyone how he has had her regularly. Thankfully, one of her guards was coming for his shift change and was able to subdue Mal.
Alina is summoned at once and asked if Mal had taken any liberties with her. She denies it and says that at most he's only ever kissed her hand, much to Genya's relief. She explains what happened and what Mal tried to do. Alina's heart is broken that he would do something so dishonorable and to the queen of all people.
And that's all i got
