So let’s say, hypothetically, that you found a taxidermy owl being given away for free in your apartment building.
And, hypothetically, it was very incredibly dusty and it’s wing had broken off. And this hypothetical taxidermied great horned owl is stuffed with straw instead of being mounted on a foam figure. Hypothetically, how would you go about cleaning and repairing it?
All hypotheticals of course.

Project No. 20 - Eastern S.creech O.wl (Part 1)
Unfortunately the o.wl turned out not to be salvageable as a study skin :( One half of the face just ended up losing a bunch of feathers, leaving an ugly bald spot. I was requested to instead salvage them as separate parts.

SNOWY OWL
Bubo scandiacus
Switzerland
58 × 20 × 24 cm, (including stand)
Provenance: Swiss Private Collection
The snowy owl, Bubo scandiacus, also known as the polar owl, the white owl and the Arctic owl, is quite a large owl with, as the name implies, pearly white plumage. Its aspect certainly makes it one of the most unmistakable birds in the world, with a colouring that renders their bright yellow eyes even more piercing.
Throughout history, in mythology and across many cultures, people have regarded owls with fascination and awe. Owls have been both feared and admired, associated with witchcraft but also with life and good fortune.
During the eighteenth century, the zoological aspects of owls were detailed through close observation, diminishing the mystery surrounding these birds. Today the owl remains a symbol of wisdom. In recent pop culture, it was featured in the famous novel ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, when the wizard Harry is gifted a female snowy owl as his animal companion. It is named Hedwig, a Scandinavian name meaning female warrior.
The snowy owl presented here is an adult male, which are particularly distinctive due to the particularly bright whiteness of their plumage. It was carefully prepared by a Swiss taxidermist after its natural demise in a zoo.

Cool Classroom Specimens
Our teacher brought in some fun teaching specimens from the field museum for us to sketch!
Gray fox and Great Horned Owl. There was also a funny raccoon but I forgot to snap a photo of him.
