I'm so happy for them and what they did at Stozice

selling out a 12,000 seat stadium is no mean feat. They had people travel from abroad to come to this! They have two gorgeous albums under their belt with beloved songs that people know the words to and cry to and sing to.

But they're also early in their career. 2 albums, totaling about one hour of music total, plus a couple other assorted songs that'll be on their next album. It is, relatively speaking, not that much (they're at the start of their musical journey!) But think about how, in a few years, they'll have more albums. Enough music to put on a whole three-hour show like Taylor Swift has been doing with The Eras Tour. Sell out Stozice again, and maybe even a bigger stadium? (Slovenia doesn't have a bigger stadium but, uh, somewhere in the Balkans might? Idk)

Just. They have so much more to give us. I'm thinking about my other beloved artist (yes, Taylor Swift) and comparing her early work (which is brilliant) to what came later in her career (beyond brilliant), and like, if this is what they gave us at the start and they keep growing and improving... the things to come will be mindblowing.

And I can't wait to be at a concert of theirs in 5 years, or 10 years, watching a huge show with music from over a decade, watching them have all the success, and knowing I'd been there since (almost) the beginning.

As mentioned in the previous poll, we're now seeing streaming services like Spotify taking over music consumption. Much like how Billboard had to adapt to individual retail sales in the 1950's, MTV rotation in the 1980's, Nielsen SoundScan in the 1990's, and YouTube views in the early 2010's, Spotify streams are now going to be incorporated more into Billboard's charts, with their album charts adapting to this shift in late 2014.

But before we welcome in another chart, 2014 is the year we'll also have to say goodbye to one. It feels like just yesterday we were talking about the rise of the ringtone. But as musical ringtones were starting to fall out of favor in the general public (with streaming people were growing accustomed to no longer having to pay 99 cents for a song -- they weren't going to pay 2 dollars for a snippet of one), Billboard's ringtone charts were retired in 2014, with Taylor Swift's Shake It Off as the final number 1 ringtone in America.

In 2014, we're seeing the continuing rise of retro-inspired production, with the neo soul of Pharrell Williams' Happy, the doo-wop pastiche of Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass, and the funk elements of Ariana Grande's Problem. And with Jason Derulo's Talk Dirty sampling its hook from Balkan Beat Box's Hermetico, it seems like this was a pretty good year for brass samples. Also fun fact about Happy, apparently that song was Pharrell Williams' tenth attempt at writing a song for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Sadly, we will never hear those other 9 versions. Or else I would have put all of them on this poll.

Speaking of musical influence, we're also starting to see trap starting to rise in mainstream popularity. Trap music is a style of rap originating out of the southern hip-hop scene, notable for its 808 drums, snares, and triple-timed hi-hats. The origins of the style can be traced back to the 1990's during the rise of southern rap, with many trap acts coming out of Atlanta and Memphis. In fact one of the guest rappers on today's poll, Juicy J on Katy Perry's Dark Horse, is one of the pioneers of this style with his group, Three 6 Mafia. While Three 6 Mafia is associated with a variety of subgenres (gangster rap, horrorcore, crunk, etc), the trajectory of trap music can often be traced back to them. I don't usually give out homework on these polls, so instead I will just strongly suggest that you check out Mystic Stylez if you haven't already. We'll have to wait a few years until we see the explosive growth of the modern trap movement in the mainstream.

White feminism is one of the main form of harm for women! And one of the main form of hypocrisy and dis-humanity to ever exist!

Feminism is about wanting, and fighting for all minorities rights and equity.

When I say all minorities, I mean all that minorities that are being put in second place when we fight for our rights as women!completely disregarding them! I’m talking about black women, asian women, latin women, native American women, Hawaiian women, Balkan women…all of this women that not only have to fight agains sexism, but also racism and discrimination because of their races and ethnicities.

We put them in a different box, because yes, they’re women, but they’re women of colour firstly, so it’s not really a concern of ours’!

When white women speake up about their struggles, they need to let go of white supremacy, reject it! Not thrive in it! We shouldn’t protest only when we are the ones facing the violences, but also when the others minorities are!

For example, since it’s modern pop culture and everyone and their mothers know of it, we can mention how Taylor swift being in a relationship with that bigoted man is a BIG EXAPLE! If you want to play the role of the victim only when it’s you at the end of the knife, then don’t call yourself a feminist! Or a decent person at all! We, as white Women, should acknowledge both the disadvantages that we face as women, but also the privilege that comes with being white; and instead of closing our eyes, we should use the voice that WOC don’t have, and scream with them! For them! Not against them with our silence!

Bom! Now we have the definition of white feminism! I speak up when I’m being harassed as a woman, but stay in complete silence when my sisters are being killed, abused, trafficked, degraded and so on and on because it’s not my problem!

It’s a big factor in history! Like in the women right’s movement, where white women refused to include women of colour signatures in their declarations, even though they played a main role, and refused to acknowledge, and act on all the discriminations that WOC were facing ! And stil are!

It’s not by silencing other women that we will end the patriarchy, because white supremacy and patriarch are tied together!

Feminism isn’t an aesthetic! A trend or a secret weapon ! Feminism is by all for all! Stop with that bullshit! Playing the victim in front of others just to paint women of colour as the villains!

Think for just a second !
