The Miami Dolphins put up 70 points in their win but the sports world is abuzz over who is in attendance in Arrowhead Stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs game. If there is any doubt who Taylor Swift is dating now, it's been completely erased. And what a game for her to be at too. The Chiefs are looking pretty dominant as well. They are up big in the Taylor Era.

1989 really was the moment, the movement, the blueprint. Is it the perfect album? No, absolutely not. But it literally redefined the pop genre and for the next 5-7 years every pop album that came out was trying to recapture its magic. It is not, I think, the best pop album of all time (or even in Taylor's catslogue), but it is EASILY one of the top 5 most influential albums in pop music, period. Like, ever. Whether you like Taylor Swift or not, it has such far reaching implications that I would go so far as to say that it's like the scene from The Devil Wears Prada; even if you avoid pop you've felt its influence in music you like but nature of the counter-culture reactionism that happens to what's in the mainstream.
When people call 1989 the pop bible it isn't even an exaggeration.

Being friends with Theodore Nott was strange.
Though you still bickered and bantered, the undertone of your interactions were less hostile and more suggestive in nature. Theo had always been a flirt, but you never realized how good he was at it until your usual response of irritation sharpened into something else. It didn’t help that his presence around you had become more constant now that Luna and Pansy made things official.
“They’re sickeningly adorable,” Theo said as he slid into the bench next to you. “I’m fighting the urge to retch.”
You glanced up to find Pansy and Luna huddled close together, whispering and giggling at one another. “Oh, absolutely vile. No one should be subjected to their shameless canoodling this early in the morning.”
Theo poked your thermos with a piece of french toast. “Just like you shouldn’t subject yourself to that sorry excuse of a coffee flavor.”
You took an exaggerated swig and smiled. “The pumpkin spice is here to stay. You’re free to leave if you don’t like it, Theo.”
His eyes glittered with mischief. “Hmm, maybe I didn’t get a good enough taste last time. I think I’ll try again.”
“Don’t you dare, Theodore,” you warned, cradling your thermos protectively.
“Is it Theodore now?” He asked, raising a brow. “And here I thought I’d earned first name privileges out of that pretty mouth. Amongst other things.”
“Yeah, well, you seem to like abusing the privilege so maybe I should start cutting back on my generosity.”
“I think you’ll find that I’m equally as generous, if not more.” His smirk grew when he noticed you growing flustered. “I’d be happy to demonstrate, Y/N. In a broom closet. In an empty classroom. In either one of our dorms. Hell, even in the middle of this damned hall if you asked.”
“Tempting,” you said sarcastically as you attempted to hide the tinge of red that had crept up your neck behind a curtain of hair. “Sadly, getting expelled for exhibitionism isn’t really on my to do list.”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “Suit yourself. Just know that I have no qualms on getting on my knees for you, diavolina.”
You nearly choked on your coffee while Theo smiled innocently.
“Oi! Am I losing it or is this bacon burnt to a crisp?” Mattheo exclaimed as he obnoxiously plopped down next to you.
Enzo sat across from him and took a bite out of his toast. “You did ask for it to be extra fried.”
“I asked for it to be fried, not charred.”
Theo sighed. “What are you two tossers on about now?”
Malfoy appeared out of nowhere and took the spot beside his cousin. “Riddle’s convinced that the house elves are out to get him.”
“They are out to get me! Look at this monstrosity.”
“Yes, I’m sure Winky’s actively planning your demise,” responded Blaise with an eye roll. “You’ve officially lost the plot, mate.”
You blinked, utterly bewildered at how and when you’d adopted the four Slytherins into your circle. Across the table, Pansy frowned in disapproval. Her little bubble of bliss had been abruptly popped by the presence of the boys.
“You lot are scaring our poor Ravenclaw friends.”
Berkshire gave you a sheepish smile. “Sorry, girls. We’re sort of a package deal. When you date one of us, you date the whole lot.”
“Oh, joy,” you deadpanned. “I’ve always wanted to be in a polyamorous relationship.”
Mattheo smirked. “We are quite good at sharing. Aren’t we, boys?”
You wrinkled your nose in disgust. “On second thought, I think I’d prefer dying alone.”
“For Salazar’s sake, you’re even meaner than Pansy,” he muttered at his blackened bacon.
You smiled sweetly. “Aw, is someone a little grumpy because they got served ash for breakfast? Poor little Riddle.”
Malfoy snorted. “I wouldn’t mess with her, Mattheo. You know she almost pushed Vane off the bleachers the other day.”
“I did not!”
Theo chuckled. “Yeah, but you wanted to.”
You bit back a smile. “Maybe a little.”
“Everyone is talking about the dressing down you gave her,” Enzo said. “You’re kind of a badass, Y/N.”
Pansy rolled her eyes. “More badass than you boys will ever be. Now stop pestering the poor girl and let her eat breakfast in peace.”
Despite the rough start, the rest of the meal was actually quite enjoyable. The Slytherins fought and argued like siblings, but you could tell that they all cared deeply for one another. No matter how much they teased and taunted each other, the boys were like rowdy brothers and Pansy, their elder sister and glue of the family. They all seemed to defer to the fearsome witch and you couldn’t blame them.
Parkinson was terrifying, but in the most amusing way.
As you wrapped up the morning, Pansy turned and the boys immediately fell silent. “Don’t forget our trip to Hogsmeade at the end of the week. You’re invited too, Y/N.”
“I have to stu—”
Pansy held her palm up. “Don’t bother. I’m not taking no for an answer.”
Mattheo snickered. “What’s the matter, Y/N? Are you and Notty boy too busy eating each other’s gel—”
“Finish that sentence and I will impale you with my fork.”
Malfoy smirked. “Please do, Y/N. I’d like front row tickets to the show.”
“In that case, it’ll be a hundred galleons. A bargain, considering how deep those pockets are, Malfoy.”
“Violence and extortion?” Blaise asked with a sly smile. “I can see why young Theodore is enamored with you, Y/N.”
Theo rolled his eyes. “Shut up, Zabini.”
You sighed, rubbing your temples. “You’re all honestly giving me a migraine. Parkinson, seeing as you’ve given me no choice, count me in for Hogsmeade. Loons, I’ll see you back at our dorm. To the rest of you, please do consider a refresher on manners. Except for you, Berkshire. You’re a sweetheart. No idea why you’re friends with this lot.”
Enzo blushed to the tips of his ears. The rest of the boys protested, but you were already halfway through the Great Hall to entertain their complaints.
“Enzo’s a sweetheart, is he?” Theo asked, smoothly matching your stride as you walked across the sunny courtyard.
“Jealousy isn’t a good look on you, Nott.”
He gasped, clutching his heart. “First Theodore, now Nott? You wound me, Y/N.”
The crisp autumn air filled your lungs as you and Theo sauntered through the castle grounds. “Following me now? Zabini was right. You are enamored with me.”
“Oh, absolutely enthralled, darling. You have bewitched me—mind, body, and soul.”
“You did not just quote Jane Austen to me.”
“I saw your tattered copy of Pride and Prejudice,” Theo said with a smirk. “I imagine quoting Mr. Darcy is a bit like foreplay to you.”
“Foreplay implies that you’re going to get lucky, which you’re not.”
“Is that why you’re leading me into a secluded forest?”
“I’m not leading you anywhere. You’re choosing to follow me. Stalking is the more accurate descriptor.”
“Maybe I’m curious as to why you’re going into the Forbidden Forest by yourself. Don’t tell me you’re meeting a handsome Mr. Darcy type out here.”
“Close. I’m here to meet Henry.”
Theo paused, furrowing his brows. “Who in the bloody hell is Henry?”
“You’ll see.”
The forest thickened and the unmistakable crunch of the freshly fallen leaves echoed in the clearing as you trotted on them with your boots. You stood underneath a towering oak tree whose gnarled roots choked the damp earth underneath your feet. As loud as you could manage, you placed two fingers in your mouth and whistled.
Beyond the tree line, a soft rustling emerged. You turned and found Henry galloping towards you. The thestral was barely a few weeks old, small and spindly with milky eyes and a sharp snout. He flapped his bat-like wings shyly as you knelt to the earth. You patted between his horns and smiled at the baby thestral.
“Theo, meet Henry.”
Theo crouched beside you. “Hello, Henry.”
The foal peered curiously at Theo. Henry glanced up as you gave him a reassuring nod.
“You can pet him, if you’d like. He’s fond of ear scratches and belly rubs.”
Theo looked unsure for a moment before gently scratching behind Henry’s ear. The baby thestral cooed and melted into his touch.
“Here, you can help me feed him too.”
You pulled out a sack of treats and handed some to Theo. “Henry’s quite young, so he’s not able to hunt for himself yet. Hagrid said that these treats will keep him healthy and fed until he gets his bearings.”
“I didn’t know that they could be this small. I just always assumed that all thestrals emerged as full adults.”
“Most of them are. The birth of a thestral is actually quite rare. This one here is the first baby born in over a decade.”
Theo nodded as Henry happily devoured the treats. There was a small smile on his face as the small horse nuzzled its snout into his palm. “I didn’t realize that you could see them too.”
“Yeah, after the war I’m able to see them as clear as day.” You scratched underneath Henry’s chin. “I suppose most of the school can, too. I think they look at the thestrals and see the loss of innocence. The price of war. The death and carnage. But when I see this little guy, I’m reminded of all the sacrifices that others have made so that I could be here. Henry symbolizes a new beginning. It’s not always pretty, but it’s real.”
The foal cooed as he basked in attention and affection. You and Theo played with him for a few minutes, giving him scratches after he diligently finished the last of his food. The thestral whinied in thanks before heading beyond the trees again. Henry flapped his wings happily, stirring the autumn leaves below him as he skittered off.
“Will he be alright?” Theo asked.
“He’s got his mum. She’ll look after him.”
Theo smiled a bit. “I suppose she will.”
The two of you walked back towards the castle in comfortable silence. In the past few weeks, Hogwarts had been suspended between autumn and winter. The air was tinged with chill and frost, but the first snowfall of the season was late in its arrival and you couldn’t wait for the day when snow covered the castle grounds again.
You had always adored snow. One of your earliest memories was waking up on Christmas morning to find London covered in a glittering blanket of white. You always considered that moment as your first real glimpse of magic. Especially after you and your mum spent the entire day making snow angels in the front yard while your father snapped pictures.
“What was your mum like, Theo?” you asked, your breath forming a cloud in front of you.
Theo slipped his hands in his pockets. “Beautiful. Smart. Funny. That’s what I remember most about her. She had a wicked sense of humor. We used to pull all sorts of pranks on each other when I was little.” He grinned as he recalled a memory. “She rigged my very first broom to make farting sounds every time I flew. Malfoy laughed so hard he tumbled into a bush.”
“That must have been fun growing up.”
“It was. Mum was a lot of fun, but she could be strict too. I swear I knew all of the basic spells and wand movements before I even stepped foot in school. She said I had to ace my studies at Hogwarts if I wanted to get into Cambridge.”
You smiled. “What was her favorite subject?”
“Most would guess potions, but it was actually a close tie with transfiguration. Mum once turned Goyle’s dad’s sock into a snake after he made fun of her haircut in fifth year. Professor McGonagall still brings it up to this day. Says mum was one of her best students.”
“I bet,” you said with a chuckle. “Now I know where you get all your mischievousness from.”
“My nonna always said that raising me was like raising her all over again. I swear, the old bat holds herself back from calling me Vittoria half of the time.”
“Is that your mum’s name? Vittoria?” Theo nodded. “It’s very pretty.”
“It means victory. My family is very intentional with names.”
“What does Theodore mean?”
“Divine gift.”
“It seems fitting for someone who generally acts like they’re a gift from above.”
Theo rolled his eyes fondly. His expression turned serious as you rounded through the Black Lake. “For years, mum tried and failed to get pregnant. Her health was already precarious to begin with and the healers told her that having children would be difficult. When she discovered that she was pregnant with me, mum called me her little miracle.”
“That’s so sweet.”
“I’m not sure how much of a miracle I turned out to be though. After she had me, mum’s health declined. She was bedridden a lot of the time until she passed. My father always said that she might’ve lived longer had I not been born.”
His jaw clenched. You were aware that Theo didn't have the best relationship with his father. The elder Nott had always seemed cold and standoffish the few times you'd glimpsed him on the platform with Theo. By their stiff interactions, it was easy to surmise that they weren't very close. Whatever obligatory ties they might've had was swiftly severed after Theo testified against his father after the war.
Despite the fact that he was locked far away in Azkaban, you hated that Mr. Nott still had the power to hurt his son. Even if it was just cruel words from the past.
"I'm glad you were." You bumped him with your hip. “What a dreary world it would’ve been without you, Theodore Nott.”
Theo bumped you back, catching you around the waist. “What about you? What are your mum and dad like?”
“My dad’s a conductor for the philharmonic, but he was a musician years before that. He can play pretty much every instrument. My mum’s a barrister. I used to put on her wig and robes and pretend that I was defending a case like I’d seen her do at court.”
“That explains a lot,” Theo mused thoughtfully. “The angry piano playing. The constant arguing. I feel like I’m truly getting a full picture of you, Y/N.” You stuck your tongue out rather petulantly, which only made Theo chuckle. “What about siblings?”
You shook your head. “I’m an only child.”
“So am I,” he said. “Though I never truly felt like it. I have an exorbitant amount of cousins. The Marchesis reproduce like rabbits, but it made for a fun childhood. Plus, there’s Pansy and the boys who are pretty much my family at this point. We’ve all known each other since birth.”
“That must’ve been nice. All my cousins were significantly older, so I was never really around children my age until I came here. All the other muggle kids thought I was too serious and grown up and I thought they were all childish and quite stupid.”
“That doesn’t surprise me one bit.” Theo draped his arm over your shoulder, ruffling your hair. “Did you ever get lonely?”
“No. My parents were my best friends, as lame as that sounds.”
“I don’t think it sounds lame at all.”
You grinned. “Besides them, Luna was the first friend I ever made. Now, she’s more like a sister to me and I feel rather protective of her.”
“Pansy told me you interrogated her about her intentions.”
You shrugged. “Just covering my bases.”
“You know, Pansy’s mum and my mum were friends back then. She was overprotective of her friends too.”
“Sounds like my kind of witch.”
A faint smile bloomed on Theo’s face. “It’s nice to be able to talk about her.”
“That’s what friends are for, Theo.”
He stopped at the edge of the lake. Theo towered over you, nearly covering your small frame from view. He brushed his knuckles against your jaw, studying you thoughtfully. “Is that what we are, amorina? Friends?”
You tilted your chin up and met his gaze head on. “Yes. Is that a problem?”
“Not at all. I’ll be whatever you want, Y/N,” Theo said as he traced your bottom lip with his thumb. “As long as I get to do this.”
Theo closed the gap between you and your breath stalled as his arm snaked around your waist. He pulled you flush against him, his mouth inches away from your own. Theo studied you for a moment, taking in your flushed cheeks and dilated pupils before pressing his lips against yours. A tingling sensation set your body alight as he kissed you with a burning devotion reserved for the most ardent zealot.
The kiss was a prayer, an alm, a petition to the divine, but the words were in a language that you couldn’t understand.
His eyes burned like a funeral pyre and you felt the heat of it brush against your very core. Theo brushed his thumb against your cheek, his voice as rough and calloused as his touch.
“Sono pazzo di te.”
“I’m afraid that’s beyond my grasp of the Italian language. What did you say, Theo?”
Theo smiled. “I said I’ll race you to Charms!”
Before he even finished the sentence, Theo took off running. You yelled after him, cheeks red and hair streaming behind you as you chased him up the steps. You were out of breath and panting and very aware of how ridiculous you looked, but it was also the hardest you’ve ever laughed in your life.
Tumblr media
The formal invitation to Professor Slughorn’s dinner came on the same day of the Hogsmeade trip. Up until then, you had successfully put the whole thing out of your mind, but the letter in your hand pushed it back to the forefront. By the time the last class rolled around, it was all you could think about.
Luna could tell that you were distracted as you walked through the castle halls. “Are you still thinking about the dinner?” she asked.
You sighed. “Honestly, I’ve put it out of my mind for this long, but I know I can’t keep avoiding it.”
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to.”
“A year ago, it wouldn’t have even been a choice. I would’ve jumped at the chance to attend, but now…”
“Things have changed,” Luna said.
“It isn’t fair, Loons. After the war, I thought things would get better, but there’s still so much shit to dredge through.”
“There’s always going to be shit to dredge through, Y/N. The good news is that you have people to tackle it with.”
“I think the people make it harder.”
“Because you care,” she said with a smile. “You don’t have to lead with your head all the time, you know. Sometimes it’s okay to let your heart call the shots.”
You groaned, rubbing your temples. “I feel like I’m in one of these cheesy muggle soap operas. What choice will Y/N make today?”
“Whatever you choose, I will support you. I already spoke with Harry and told him to keep an eye on you should you choose to go.”
“Did Theo put you up to this?”
She shook her head. “We’ve had…conversations about it. I’m perfectly aware that Theo has strong opinions on the matter, but Pans and I would be glad to give him a stern talking to on your behalf.”
“I appreciate it, Loons. You know, I wasn’t sure about Parkinson at first, but I think she’s quite good for you. Terrifying, but good.”
You truly meant it. Over the past few weeks, you had gotten to know Pansy and the rest of the Slytherin gang quite well. Mostly because they seemed to follow Parkinson around like lost puppies, which was amusing in and of itself. Regardless, you had grown fond of the little terrors.
“My girlfriend in a nutshell.” Luna’s serene smile turned serious as she touched your arm. “I know I’ve been busy with Pans lately, but I want you to know that I’m always here for you, Y/N. You know you can talk to me about anything.”
You smiled and squeezed her hand. “I know, Loons. You’re a great friend. Even though you adopted five bumbling idiots without my consent.”
She chuckled. “Oh, I only brought four into the fold. One of them was already yours to begin with.” Her eyes sparkled with mischief. “Speaking of which, what is the situation between you and Theodore? Pans will not stop pestering me about it.”
“We’re…friends.”
“Friends who sneak into each other’s dorms at all hours of the night, take strolls together in the Forbidden Forest, and stargaze at the Astronomy Tower. That kind of friend?”
You flushed. “It’s complicated.”
“I’m not judging,” Luna declared. “I happen to think that you two are adorable together.”
“Who’s adorable together?” asked the obnoxious voice of none other than Mattheo Riddle.
The boys were huddled by the castle entrance, dressed in comfortable layers. The last week of October had brought chill and frost, but snow had yet to make an appearance.
“You and the sound of silence,” you retorted with a smile.
Theo, Blaise, and Draco tried and failed to suppress their laughter. Enzo bit back a smile, which fooled absolutely no one. Pansy just sighed exasperatedly.
“Do you see?” Mattheo cried. “She’s always so mean to me.”
Theo draped an arm over your shoulder. He was dressed in a green and silver striped sweater with a pair of casual jeans and slightly scuffed trainers. The ensemble resembled something that the boys back home might’ve worn, but for some reason it looked a thousand times better on Theo.
“Don’t worry, mate. She’s mean to everyone.”
“Not to me,” Enzo said proudly.
You grinned. Out of all the boys, you admittedly had a soft spot for Berkshire. He always had a stash of treats from Honeydukes to share during your study sessions and was just genuinely nice to everyone no matter what house they were in.
“Obviously Enzo’s my favorite.”
“That’s not fair,” Draco complained. “He bribes you with fudge.”
“Better step it up then, Malfoy.”
“Honestly, I’m offended,” Blaise said rather dramatically. “I shared my expensive face creams with you, Y/N. Doesn’t that mean anything?”
“And it was a very special night, Zabini. But you can’t beat chocolate.”
Pansy rolled her eyes. “Let’s go before you lot derail this whole trip with your madness.”
“Coming, mum,” you said brightly.
Parkinson glared at you, but it was short-lived given Luna’s giggle. The blonde took Pansy by the hand and your comment was all but forgotten.
As always, the charming village of Hogsmeade was littered with your fellow students. High Street was decorated for All Hallow’s Eve, complete with enchanted pumpkins, floating cauldrons, and charmed skeletons that popped up to frighten the witches and wizards strolling through the busy shops.
The group entered Gladrags first. The boys, with the exception of Draco and Blaise, immediately occupied the benches towards the front of the clothing store. You took advantage of the peace and quiet and perused the rows and rows of rich robes, quirky hats, and crazy patterned socks. Though you preferred the simplicity of muggle clothing, you had to admit that the wizarding world offered some interesting choices in attire.
After half an hour, your group walked out with nearly half the store. The Slytherins took the phrase ‘shop until you drop’ into a whole other level. The purchases that Pansy, Blaise, and Draco were so heavy that it had to be carted off back to the castle.
You visited Dervish and Banges in which the boys spent an exorbitant amount of galleons on quidditch equipment. The group then made its way to Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes where Mattheo almost lost a finger faffing around with a nose-biting teacup. Draco and Blaise stayed behind to wait for Mattheo and Enzo to ensure that they made it to dinner with all of their appendages intact, while Pansy and Luna popped into Madam Puddifoot’s for some chamomile tea, leaving you and Theo to explore Scrivenshaft’s on your own.
“You didn’t have to come with,” you said as you examined the new stock of stationary. “I’m sure watching the Weasley twins hustle Riddle out of his money is much more entertaining than looking at boring old quills.”
“It’s alright, I don’t mind. Besides, Mattheo’s a big boy. He can handle himself.”
You snorted as you picked up a quick writing quill. “Oh, I don’t know. Riddle might need his knight in shining armor to rescue him from those villainous redheads.”
Theo smirked. “You think I’m a knight in shining armor?”
“Hmmm…” you cocked your head and examined him. “You’re more like the sarcastic sidekick, I think.”
“I’ll remember that, Y/N.”
“Add it to the list,” you said with a sly smile. “I’m sure you’ve got a running tally on the countless times I’ve bruised your fragile ego.”
Theo clutched his heart. “Mattheo’s right. You are mean.”
“Don’t act like you don’t enjoy it.”
His lips curved up into a dangerous smirk. Theo leaned over you, bracing one arm against the shelf behind you to cage you in. “Oh, I do, but I enjoy fucking the attitude right out of you even more.” You swallowed thickly, backing into the bookshelf. Theo’s eyes flickered with amusement. “Not so feisty now, are we?”
You rolled your eyes and smacked him against his chest. “You’re an absolute pest, do you know that?”
“Add it to the list,” he responded cheekily.
The flirting and banter followed you all the way out of the stationary shop. You and Theo argued for ten minutes after he took the shopping bag out of your hands and carried it for you.
“I’m perfectly capable of toting my own things around, thank you very much.”
He shrugged. “A gentleman never lets a lady carry her own bags.”
“I wasn’t aware you were a gentleman.”
“Only when I want to be,” Theo said. “You should take advantage of it. You never know when it’ll happen again.”
You rolled your eyes, tugging at the bag in his hands. “Give me back my bag, Theodore.”
“Drop it or I’ll haul you over my shoulder and carry you around the village instead.”
“Fine, you win this round.”
Theo smiled triumphantly. “Y/N admitting defeat? This calls for a celebration. Honeydukes it is.”
The candy shop smelled as magnificent as it always did. Rows and rows of rainbow colored treats greeted you in every direction. You felt as giddy as you had in first year when the trolley of succulent-looking sweets passed through the aisles of the Hogwarts Express. You picked out your favorites—cauldron cakes, nougat chunks, and pumpkin pasties.
Though the shop was packed to the brim, you moved easily among the aisles as Theo cleared the way. He quirked a brow at the mountain of sweets cradled in your arms, but said nothing as you marched up to the register.
“Will that be all, miss?” asked the kindly shopkeeper.
“And a batch of your freshly made fudge,” Theo requested. “Put it on my tab, Mrs. Flume.”
“Of course. Anything for you, Theodore.”
The shopkeeper disappeared at the back of the shop to fetch the fudge. You nudged Theo with your elbow.
“I can’t let you pay for all of this,” you hissed sharply.
“Of course you can. I’m disgustingly rich, remember?”
“I know, but it wouldn’t be right.”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “You’ve put up with my friends for weeks on end. Consider this as payment.”
“This more than makes up for the debt. It’s not even equal at this point.”
“Oh, don’t worry. Half of this is for my benefit. Can’t have Berkshire beating me for that number one spot, can I?”
You chuckled. “Are you trying to bribe me, Theo?”
“That depends. Is it working?”
The mouth-watering scent of freshly made fudge hit you as Mrs. Flume handed Theo a large pink bag. Bribe or not, Theo was definitely on his way to dethrone Enzo as your favorite.
“You’ll spoil your dinner,” Theo said as you popped a square of fudge into your mouth. The chocolate dissolved on your tongue as you released a sigh of satisfaction.
“What are you, the chocolate police?”
“What’s a police?”
“They’re like aurors, but without wands.”
“Well, one could argue that the amount of sweets you’re about to consume is a threat to public safety.”
“Would you rather I be a threat to your safety instead?”
“I’d say you’re already doing a rather excellent job of that.”
You stuck your tongue out, but Theo didn’t seem to notice as he looked behind you. The bell chimed softly as you exited Honeydukes only to walk right into a winter wonderland. The cobblestone streets were as crowded as ever, but many stalled in their path to look up at the flecks of white falling from the sky. A gentle breeze sent a scatter of snowflakes to pile up in the storefronts, decorating High Street with glitter and wonder.
The first snowfall of the season certainly did not disappoint. You ran out into the street, catching snowflakes on your tongue while laughing giddily. Theo watched with a small smile as you twirled around, your blue and gold scarf blurring while you spun and spun underneath the clear, blue sky.
“Easy there,” he said, catching you around the waist before you could slip on a patch of ice. “I’ve never seen anyone get this excited over a bit of snow.”
“It’s the first snowfall of the season!” you exclaimed. Theo chuckled as you dragged him out of the busy streets, weaving through shoppers and villagers alike. You didn’t stop until you reached the end of the village. “Come on, you have to see the view.”
At the edge of the small, sleepy village, you could see the blanket of snow covering Hogsmeade. It made everything glitter as the sun disappeared over the horizon. You felt so happy that your heart could burst.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Snow dotted his mop of curly brown hair, the glittering flakes catching in his long lashes as he stared down at you. “Yeah,” he murmured, releasing a cloudy breath. “The most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen.”
Theo’s gaze softened. He reached out and brushed the snowflakes off your bottom lip with his thumb. The nervous bob of his throat was so uncharacteristically earnest that you nearly did a double take.
“I want you to go to that dinner tomorrow night, Y/N.” His voice was soft and carried none of the argumentative tone that it usually did when you discussed Slughorn’s dinner. “I understand why you don’t want to and believe me, I wholeheartedly agree. But I’d never forgive myself if I stood in the way of the one thing you’ve been working for since first year.”
You sighed. “It’s not just you, Theo. It’s Pansy. Draco. Blaise. Enzo. Even Mattheo. I don’t want to support anything that alienates my—my…friends.”
Until this moment, you hadn’t realized how fond and protective you’ve grown for the Slytherins. Somewhere between quiet mornings sipping freshly brewed coffee with Pansy, game nights in Malfoy’s ridiculously huge dorm, studying with Enzo in the Great Hall, comparing skincare products and exchanging tips with Blaise, and even riling up Mattheo with your ridiculous arguments, the little group had stolen their way into your heart.
They were your friends and you would do anything for your friends.
“All of us think that you should go. After all, there’s nothing more Slytherin than turning something terrible into a golden opportunity. If you get that recommendation, you’d be the first muggleborn member of the M.E.S.P., so you have to go. Go and make your favorite serpents proud, Y/N.”
Warmth spread through your chest. You could tell that Theo felt strongly about this. That he truly and genuinely cared about what an opportunity like this meant for a muggleborn witch like yourself.
You found yourself nodding after a moment. “Fine, I’ll go but you have to let me eat another piece of fudge.”
Theo smiled and those charming dimples peeked out of each cheek. “Not a chance in hell, dolcezza.”
You groaned dramatically. “Is that all or are you going to start lecturing me on my irresponsible consumption of sweets again?”
Watercolor eyes flickered over you. “There is something else,” he said softly. “There’s something that I’ve been meaning to tell you, Y/N. I think you’ve already guessed by now but I—I think I’m—”
Before Theo could finish his sentence, a snowball hit him square in the chest. You yelped as a barrage of snow came raining down upon you. High up on the hill, Mattheo and Enzo skittered between the trees. Your would-be attackers laughed as they continued to hurl snowballs in your direction.
“You’re dead, mate!” Theo bellowed as he dragged you behind him. “You two are absolutely and positively dead.”
The two of you crouched behind a large rock. You peeked around the corner, trying to calculate your next steps. Pushing past whatever moment the boys had interrupted between you and Theo, you turned to your curly headed companion with a smile.
“I know that look,” Theo accused. “You have a plan, don’t you?”
“You still have those dung bombs from the twins?”
He nodded and handed over the array of goodies he purchased from the Weasleys. The plan came to fruition a few minutes later. Mattheo and Enzo were safe up on their high hill, but you and Theo were not about to let that deter you. He followed as you crept up the fortress, keeping guard as you palmed a snowball in your hand.
Mattheo spotted you first. He hurled snow at you, but you easily dodged his attack. When he left himself exposed, you flung the snowball with all your might. It hit him in the leg before exploding and drenching him with the stench of dung. Riddle nearly retched at the foul smell while Enzo doubled over in laughter.
Theo took advantage of the situation and hurled his own snowball at Enzo’s stomach. Within seconds, the stench worsened. The two boys threw their remaining snowballs on the ground and signaled their surrender.
“Dung bombs?” Riddle exclaimed as you came closer. “Nice touch, Notty boy.”
“Don’t look at me, mate. It was all Y/N.”
Mattheo’s eyes widened. Enzo burst into laughter. “Told you not to mess with her,” Berkshire said as he cast a scouring charm over the both of them.
“I’ve got to give it to you, Y/N.” Mattheo said with an impressed tone. “You’re more devious than I gave you credit for.”
“You have no idea what you just started, Riddle,” you declared with a triumphant smirk. “If i were you, I’d sleep with one eye open tonight.”
You flashed him the most evil smile you could muster before dusting yourself off and heading down the hill. The boys stared after you before following.
“I am genuinely afraid of her,” Mattheo murmured.
You didn’t have to turn around to know that Theo was smirking. “Now you know how I feel, mate.”

You had told Hazel that agreeing to this would be a bad idea. After Tim had approached Hazel with the chance to humiliate PJ and Josie in front of the entire school at the pep rally before the big game, you got a bad vibe from it.
The sound of Tucker’s foot kicking Hazel’s eye echoed ferociously in your head.
It all happened so quickly, you could barely process seeing Hazel’s limp body on the ground. The sight made your stomach turn as you shot up from your seat in the bleachers to check up on Hazel. You glared in the direction of Tim and Jeff and that fucking psychopath Tucker— who you were pretty sure was a thirty year old man.
Everything had already been so tense in the group after PJ had humiliated Hazel in front of everyone. Finding out that PJ and Josie had started the group to get with Isabel and Brittany was an eye-opener to what their true intentions were.
This crossed the fucking line.
You were running over to her still frame, trailing right behind Isabel. You kneeled down next to her ribs, a bit of her blood getting on your jeans but you really couldn't care less.
“Hazel,” you whisper her name, wincing at the sight of her bleeding eye.
No response.
Panic settled in you as Stella and Brittany began to lift her body. Your eyes watered as you covered your mouth at her now blood-stained collared shirt.
“Is that true?” You heard Isabel ask PJ and Josie who had also come down from the bleachers as the staff and the rest of the students dispersed. Her voice cracked at the end of her sentence. “That’s why you started this?”
You whipped your head to the two girls, eyes flaring with anger and hurt for Hazel.
Josie immediately began to protest.
“N-no, not entirely—“
“Not entire—Okay.” PJ cut her off loudly. “Listen guys. It doesn’t matter…the reason that we started this.”
You felt your skin itch with fury as you watched them drag Hazel’s body out of the gymnasium. You couldn't even listen to whatever bullshit excuse PJ had to say anymore. Sylvie began to walk away as did you and Isabel.
All you could focus on was if Hazel was okay.
The next few days, you didn’t leave Hazel’s side. You were at the hospital that same night at one in the morning with Mrs. Callahan in the waiting room and by her bedside when she came out of getting blood tests and prescribed medications. When the group would go over to her house and spend a few hours after school being attentive and showing support, you would stay the night tending to her wounds.
It was night three and the swelling had just begun to deflate, her eye revealing itself just a bit. Mrs. Callahan had been really understanding about you spending the nights as much as you knew you were intruding. She had pulled you aside after the second night to tell you how much she appreciated you and everyone else staying by her side.
Especially you — for a reason she didn’t disclose to.
You were crouched down next to Hazel’s bed, helping her with the eye drops that were prescribed by the doctor. Hazel was wearing one of her grandpa sweaters and a pair of sweatpants. Splotches of red, purple and yellow covered her entire face.
“Hold on, Haze.” You leaned in a little closer to her face to focus on the little opening of her eye.
Hazel had been fidgeting the entire night and you had no idea what had made her this way. She muttered an apology before sucking in a deep breath. You were gently cupping the unswollen side to give you leverage.
You pretended not to notice her untouched eye flicker to your dry lips.
“Are you okay?” Hazel asked as you held the dropper right above the swollen skin.
You merely hummed in response as you were focused on her eye. Hazel waited until you put the instructed amount into the dry eye, making sure they all got in. You couldn’t risk her getting infection.
“Are you sure?” She pressed again.
You set the dropper down onto the tray full of doctor prescribed pills and remedies for her abrasions. Your brows furrowed as you held an expression of disbelief.
“Haze, I— why are you asking me if I’m okay when you got the shit beat out of you?” You emphasized, chuckling in disbelief.
“I know but—“
“Seriously. If it wasn’t for this fucking club, this wouldn’t have happened to you, Haze.” You expressed with more irritation laced in your tone.
You admit that you haven’t been getting the most sleep since the event; maybe three or four hours at best. Your mind was clouded with worry for Hazel’s well being.
What if Tucker gave her a concussion that would damage her brain forever? What if she went into a coma? What if she dies in her sleep?
Okay, and you also tended to overthink.
“Hey,” Hazel’s tone was gentle with a hint of stern attitude.
You hadn't realized that hot tears were leaving your tired eyes. You had been so busy taking care of Hazel that you hadn’t fully processed what had happened to her. Not a single tear had left your face until now.
“He could’ve really hurt you, Haze.” You whisper, raising your hand to wipe away the tears from your hot cheek.
Hazel remained silent as she knew deep down that Tucker could’ve done a lot more damage than she had received. She just didn't think that you cared this much about her; let alone cry for her pain. She noticed your chest rising and falling faster than she’s ever seen in her entire life. Your bottom lip quivered as you attempted to hold back the burning tears that were threatening to leave your eyes.
“I know but I’m doing okay. You’ve helped a lot, okay? More than I could ever ask for.” Hazel reached for your shaking hand, taking it gingerly into her grasp.
You nod, not trusting yourself to talk as your throat ached from how much you were resisting to let yourself cry. Hazel sat up slowly, her back aching and cracking from being inactive all day.
“Hazel, the doctor said to refrain from sitting upright.” You begin to scold her but she waves her hand at you.
“I’m okay. I-I’m fine.” Hazel shut her eyes, letting out a grunt as she adjusted her body so that she was leaning up against her bed frame.
You reach forward to push her falling strands out of her face, frowning at her wincing.
“Has PJ or Josie—“
“No.” You remark, refraining from rolling your eyes. You already knew where that question was going and still had a grudge against the two.
What hurt the most that you knew Hazel was going to forgive them; specifically PJ. You knew that they didn't hurt her directly but none of this would’ve ever happened if the club never existed. Then again, you never would’ve become friends without the club.
You would’ve still been just admiring her from afar as you passed through the halls.
“Why did you stay here?” Hazel hummed.
You suck in a deep breath as you continue the night routine as normal. You grabbed the tube of ointment and began to apply it to the slit on her high cheekbones.
“I didn't like the thought of you being alone during this.” You admit, hoping it didn't sound so smitten. “I am your friend, you know? I care about you.”
Hazel’s eyes followed the natural arch of your eyebrows and slope of your nose as you spoke. You knew you looked tired but it was truly the least of your worries.
“I know. Now, at least.” Hazel replied, her gaze finally locking on your lips.
“You didn't think I cared?” The dip between your brows depended on her confession.
“It’s nothing against you. I never really had good friends before. It’s nice to not have shitty friends for a change.” Hazel shrugs her shoulders, fiddling with a loose string on her pants.
“You deserve good friends, Haze. You deserve so much.” You express, your voice keeps a gentle yet passionate volume.
The thought of Hazel getting mistreated all her life made your chest ache. Her eyes were darting all over your features as you pulled your hand away from her aching face.
“Well, thank you for all of this.” Hazel replied, not knowing how to take all of your kind words.
You breathe out: “Yeah, of course, Haze.”
You almost missed how she began to lean into your body. You cleared your throat as a tension fell over you guys. You stood up from the bed, brushing your messy hair out of your face.
“I’ll head to bed now. Goodnight, Hazel.” You nod, turning your back to her as you couldn't have her see you so bothered by the fact that she had leaned into you.
You didn't want to have high hopes but they were there. Way, way, up there. Fucking cloud nine up there.
But it wasn’t right. Not yet.

The Huntington versus Rockridge game arrived faster than you could comprehend. You were wedged between Annie and Hazel, waiting patiently for the game to start.
Her eye swelling had completely gone down at that point to where she just had deep brushing all over her pale features. You were happy to see her darling blue eyes once again. Mrs. Callahan insisted that you two come to the game. You were reluctant but maybe it could be something better to do other than sulk around and be annoyed at Josie and PJ.
As the announcer began to cheer on the Vikings, you noticed Josie and PJ walking up the bleachers, stopping right in front of Hazel. Your eyes rolled as you waited to see what they were going to say.
“Okay, first off, PJ has something to say to Hazel, so…” Josie starts, panting through her words.
You stare at PJ along with Sylvie, Annie and Hazel. Her jaw drops, not knowing what to say exactly.
“The apology. Do the apology. Do the apology we said.” Josie muttered to her in a rushed tone.
“Okay! I’m sorry that I called your mom a skank.” PJ exclaimed.
When Hazel merely sighed and avoided her gaze, PJ continued. “And I’m sorry for saying that you have no friends really loud in front of all of your friends.”
Hazel looked down, glancing over at you as PJ could tell she still wasn’t satisfied with her apology.
“And I’m sorry for being an asshole a lot of the time.”
You and Annie give her ‘really?’ looks when she says a lot of the time.
“Most of the— All of the time!” She finalizes.
Josie hums in agreement with her best friend.
“And I do think that it's nice you always have notes and then you type them up and email them to everyone…” Hazel rolls her eyes with an attitude because she knows that they’re helpful. You’ve told her this a million times before. “And I really appreciate it.”
Hazel stares at her blankly for a moment, trying to process what she was going to say.
“Do you forgive me?”
Hazel’s smile creeps onto her lips as she nods with a soft ‘yes’. You send PJ a forced grin before paying attention to whatever Josie was talking about. Something about the Huntington players targeting a single player on the Rockridge team and how you all needed some sort of distraction to save the players.
“Oh, now you want a bomb?” Hazel smirks at the opportunity to blow shit up.
You would be lying to yourself if you said your bruised features didn't make her more attractive to you. You had followed Hazel and the group regardless of your feelings towards PJ as honestly, you didn't have anything better to do.
They still were your friends.
You and Hazel were crouched behind the tree across the yard as she had formulated some sort of bomb out of the blue. Where the hell did she even get this shit?
“Is it the red wire?” Hazel said out-loud, uncertainty laced in her voice. “Shit, or is it the yellow?”
You stare at her in shock.
“You don’t know?” You whisper-shouted at her.
“I-I get them mixed up. Fuck.” Hazel replied back in a panic.
Just then, you hear Annie shout from across the field that the game was about to start. Hazel glanced up at you as she hurriedly guessed which wires connected to one another and grabbed your hand in hers. You blushed as she tugged you along, sprinting across the field.
You did not wear the right bra for this.
The two of you jumped into the group's presence, your arm dripping over Hazel’s back as you all ducked from the expected explosion. After a few seconds of silence, you and Hazel looked up to the tree to see it was still intact.
“Hazel, it's not working.” Annie tapped her shoulder.
“Fuck. Fucking…” Hazel grabbed the remote, releasing your grasp to aim it at the explosive.
“Maybe try turning it on and off again?” You suggest as you stare at the metal antena.
Everyone was clamoring over Hazel to see what went wrong. You hear the crowd grow more and more in volume as the football team and cheerleaders begin to hip-thrust.
“Okay, Plan B, we get the cheerleaders to make out.” Annie stated as she got up and jogged over to the squad.
“What?” You ask in disbelief, trailing after her as did the rest of the group.
“Guys! Guys, kiss each other!” You shout over, making crude motions along with PJ, Annie and Sylvie.
Hazel had run up top to the bleachers, shouting at them to makeout from there. It was no use. Isabel and Brittany were still upset with PJ and Josie, ignoring their requests entirely. You groaned as you noticed the Huntington team begin to make their way onto the field.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” you muttered before you feel someone shove your shoulder.
It was PJ.
“Go and make out with Hazel.” She instructed, jerking her head up to the bleachers.
“Wha—“
“Just go! Hurry!” PJ was now full on pushing you now, staring at Hazel who had seemed to give up on the cheerleaders.
You run as fast as your legs can take you, calling her name from the distance. You’ve never made out with someone before and this is how it was going to happen?
Fuck it.
Hazel turned to you, asking: “What do we do?”
You grabbed the side of her head, pulling her into a messy kiss. Her hands gripped onto your biceps through your navy sweater, trying to go along with your jagged movements. You could hear Annie telling everyone to ‘look!’ as the slobbery mess became a sensual kiss.
You inhale as you feel Hazel take the reins, gripping your face to show you how to control your jaw. Her tongue ever so slightly grazed your bottom lip, humming at the feeling.
Was she always this good of a kisser? Who the hell has she been hooking up with?
The makeout turned into soft gentle kisses, your smile growing as you pulled her in closer.
“Oh, wait. I’m gay!” You hear Stella-Rebecca say as you pull away with a sigh from Hazel’s experienced lips.
Hazel tugs you back in with a grip on your face, seeming to completely forget about why you were even making out in the first place. Her cold rings dug into your cheeks making you crave more and more of her.
Me fucking too, Stella.
The announcer calls the attention back to the game that people came for, causing you and Hazel to pull away with a soft smack. Her hand was at your waist now, both of you staring at the field of players. You pull away, letting out a nervous chuckle as you begin to walk back down to the track field surrounding the football one.
Hazel followed behind you, seeming to be out of it as much as you were. You had not been listening to a goddamn word PJ was saying as you thought about Hazel’s hands on your face and her tongue in your mouth.
How can you move on from this?
“They kissed on the mouth,” Sylvie stated cheekily, pointing at your flushed figures. “With tongue.”
“Okay, yeah. It was for the good of the school so if anyone is asking, we’ll do it again.” You quip back, trying not to make it seem like a big deal when all you wanted to do was have her back on you again.
Josie turned to you guys, suddenly realizing what Sylvie had said. “When did this happen?”
“There were no other distractions! The bomb didn't work.” You protested.
“They’re gonna spray the field.” Annie muttered.
You would’ve missed it if she didn’t repeat it in a much panicked and louder tone.
“We’re gonna have to run.”
“Fuck, more?” You complained as you ran beside Hazel, the insides of your thighs burning from how fast you were sprinting.
You had kicked one of the players away from Jeff, a flood of adrenaline running through you. Fuck, that felt good.
Josie had taken Jeff into her grasp, tugging him up and off of the grass. PJ had her hands over the sprinkler, ready for the pineapple juice to spray everywhere. You stare across the field at the group of Huntington players, eyes widening in a panic. Stella, Isabel, and Brittany joined by the group's side, too, staring down the rivals.
Were you really going to beat the fuck out of the rival football team with the girl you’ve been crushing on and just made out with? To save Jeff nonetheless?
The main player in the middle removed his helmet, staring the group down. He began to scream at the group which resulted in the group screaming back. You saw a large man run up to you, swinging his leg to your chest.
You dodge the force and grab his calf, twisting it clockwise to hear a loud crunch before grabbing onto his helmet guard and throwing him off of you. You feel a blow to your back to see another yellow jersey player, his helmet in hand.
“Fucking asshole!” You scream before throwing a kick to his crotch and throwing a punch to the middle of his face, blooding seeping onto your knuckles.
You don’t know exactly how so much blood got on you. It had all been one huge blur up until you saw Hazel getting punched in the stomach.
You ran over with a shout as you swung a hard punch into his cheek to throw him off guard. Hazel ended it with a kick to the ribs and another punch to the jaw before he fell to the ground.
Your entire body was aching and Hazel looked so weirdly attractive covered in blood.
“Are you okay?” Hazel asked as gently as ever as she grabbed onto your wrist, leading you to the rest of the group.
“Yeah,” you pant, feeling a burning sensation run up your spine. Definitely not. “I’m okay.”
You had blood splattered all over your blue jeans, running up the sleeve of your sweater with a few dots here and there on your face. There was a collective silence when everyone realized how much damage they had done.
You slowly turn toward the crowd of peers and adults, eyes wide with shock on what had just happened. The sprinklers suddenly turned on and Tim shouted to turn them off once he realized it was pineapple juice.
He slowly began to clap for you and the rest of the girls as the half-dead, half-unconscious Huntington players lay all around you. You let out an awkward chuckle, grabbing onto Hazel’s blood-lathered arm as you lean into her touch. You waved at everyone, snuggling into her maroon-stained shirt.
“So, that was…” You turn to her, not knowing what the fuck to even say about what had just went down.
“We’ll process it tomorrow.” She shakes her head, blood-stained face and all.
“Right, yeah.” You nod mindlessly, slowly blinking at her.
“Did you like the kiss—“
“Are we together now?”
Your question threw Hazel off guard, letting out a soft chuckle as she nervously scratched the back of her neck.
“I mean, I don’t personally just make-out with anyone.” You push out a gust of air, staring into her radiating blue eyes.
“Me neither.” Hazel rushes out, a shy smile on her lips. “So… yeah?”
You nod, laughing out a ‘yeah.’ You look around at the football field now stained with red from the bodies.
“To think, all it took was fucking up some football players for us to get together.” You grin cheekily.
“Oh, I think some of them are actually dead.” Hazel stated as you threw your arms around her neck, more of the blood spreading onto your sleeves.
“Well, the red makes your eyes pop. It’s kind of hot.” You half-joke which causes her to shake her head with a chuckle.
The forgotten tree then exploded, causing everyone to pause in their tracks. The excitement and cheers from the crowd came to a complete halt. You cover your mouth with one hand as the tree caught on fire. Hazel buries her head into your neck, groaning at her failed bomb attempt.
Hazel was right; you’ll process this tomorrow

FEARLESS - You Belong With Me
Rafe Cameron x Reader Taylor Swift AU
Warnings: Not with the OBX plot, Sofia sucks, Rafe low-key sucks, language, not proofed
Tumblr media
You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset. She's going off about something that you said, 'cause she doesn't get your humor like I do.
You were sitting in your room, pushing yourself in circles on your desk chair while Rafe was on the phone with Sofia, sitting on your bed. They've been going back and forth about a comment he'd made about Homecoming.
I'm in my room, it's a typical Tuesday night. I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like and she'll never know your story like I do.
You had been working on your APLit homework, and had light music in the background, something that Sofia had commented on when Rafe called her.
"Jesus, what the fuck are you listening to?"
"Uh, sorry, hey could you turn it down?" His hand was muffling the microphone. "Thanks."
Now, you could hear her yelling on the other line that he didn't take her out yesterday like she'd told him to.
"Babe, I told you, I had a meeting with my dad's company. I couldn't take you anywhere."
Sofia wasn't hearing any of it.
"Rafe, you are my fucking boyfriend. You aren't treating me right. You're probably hanging out with Y/N, right? How many times have I told you to stop talking to her?"
Rafe immediately got up and went to a different room.
You watched as he left, heart sinking to the depths of your stomach.
'Cause she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts. She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers, dreaming 'bout the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time.
You blocked out Rafe's muffled conversation, thinking about the differences between you and Sofia. She and Rafe were the perfect high school movie plot-line. The quarterback and the leader of the cheer squad. You were always at his games, just cheering on from the bleachers. Your viewpoint allowed you to see all the flirting Sofia was doing with all the other players with access to Daddy's Money. It annoyed you to no end that Rafe couldn't see her gold-digging tendencies.
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me, you belong with me.
You couldn't see how Rafe was blind to the fact that you were the one for him. You had always been there for him.
Walk in the streets with you and your worn-out jeans. I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be. Laughing on a park bench thinking to myself, "hey isn't this easy?"
You thought about the nights you and Rafe would hang out before he started dating Sofia. He was just so easy to hang out with. You weren’t thinking about acting a certain way or watching what you were saying.
And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town, I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down.
You remembered a joke you had told him that made him laugh the hardest you ever seen from him. His laugh, and smile, were contagious. The way his white teeth lit up everything and the sparkle in his blue eyes when they crinkled.
Now looking back on that day, you hadn’t seen Rafe smile like that since.
You say you're fine I know you better than that. Hey, what you doing with a girl like that?
You wanted to ask him about it, but his relationship was a touchy subject. You didn’t want Sofia, or God forbid Rafe, to get suspicious of your feelings toward him.
'Cause she wears high-heels, I wear sneakers. She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers, dreaming 'bout the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time.
In order to pass the time, you pull up Sofia’s Instagram, scrolling through the mass of photos she’s posted. She is gorgeous. Of course she is… you zoom in on a particular photo of her and Rafe on the football field at half-time of a recent game. He looks at her like she’s his whole world and she’s smirking at the camera. Almost like she’s taunting you.
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me.
Further in the background of the photo, you can be seen, holding Rafe’s helmet, smiling at him like a goofy love-sick child.
Standing by and waiting at your back door. All this time, how could you not know, baby? You belong with me, you belong with me.
You shut your phone off and get up from the chair, opting for the comfort of your bed. The front door of your house opens and closes. As you open your blinds to peer through, you get a text from Rafe.
Had to go, sorry. See you at school.
You could hear his truck start, the headlights lighting up your room. You like the message and then curl up to the head of your bed.
Oh, I remember you drivin' to my house in the middle of the night. I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry.
He always chooses her. Every time. You think back to all those times when Rafe would call you crying after a fight with his father. You'd always welcome him with open arms. comforting him as he sobbed into your shoulder. Consoling him with kind words after he would berate himself about not being good enough. The way Ward made him feel broke your heart.
I know you're favorite songs, and you tell me 'bout your dreams. Think I know where you belong, think I know it's with me.
Staring at the ceiling of your room, you begin to feel anger. You knew other people in the Outerbanks thought it was odd that Rafe was with Sofia and not you. Topper had even talked to you about how he and Kelce were always "Team Y/N" and not "Team Sofia".
"You know everything about him and she is only with him for the sex. It's so weird."
You rolled your eyes at Topper.
You and the guys, Rafe, Top, and Kelce, were at the country club. Rafe had just stepped outside to answer yet another one of Sofia's angry phone calls.
"To be honest, she's such a bitch."
"Kelce!" You look behind you, double-checking that no one of importance is behind you. "You shouldn't say that."
Kelce merely shrugs.
Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you? Been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me.
You opened your own instagram, scrolling through the numerous photos you had posted with Rafe. It was a mirroring of his with Sofia. You were looking at him with all of the love in the world meanwhile he was just smiling for the camera.
Standing by and waiting at your back door. All this time, how could you not know, baby?
Had you not made it obvious enough? Cancelling plans at a text from him saying "Can I come over?". You were so in love with him it was laughable.
You belong with me, you belong with me.
Opening your texts with Rafe again you began to type a message.
I love you
You belong with me.
Your shaking fingers hover over the send button.
Have you ever just thought, maybe, "You belong with me"?
Just then, a text comes in from a new number.
you need to stop talking to rafe or ill make you wish you were dead.
Your heart stopped.
Sofia.
You belong with me.
You deleted your message to Rafe, shut off your phone, and curled into a fetal position.
All you wanted was him.
All you wanted was for him to love you back.
Hi. Lol.

𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗸𝘆𝘂𝘂!! 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 & 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 “oh.” 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
↬ fyi: the italicized “oh.” moment is famously used in referring to the exact moment where a person realizes they’re in love ♡ ><
↬ part 2 here!
↬ hq characters (oikawa, bokuto, kuroo, suna) x gn!reader
↬ cw // mild cursing
Tumblr media
ꕤ oikawa flinches for the third time as you dab cotton on his scraped knees, tending to his bruises he got from pushing himself too much during training. again. stop practicing overtime and overworked, that’s what you have been telling him. trying to, at least, because for all the years you’ve worked with him you know these concerns don’t go through his thick, stubborn skull. “you better not give me any shitty excuses.” you mumble as you press ice and wrap bandages on his fingers too, while tōru thinks you have never looked more adorable with a focused, scrunched brows and a frowning mouth that can’t help but tsk out loud scolding the athlete as their manager for not taking care of himself. at that moment, oikawa doesn’t know what hurts more—the bruises forming on his skin, or the itch and ache of wanting to hold your hands in his and never let go. uh oh.
ꕤ “bang! fukurodani bags the trophy with their ace!” where are you, where are you, bokuto could almost hear his thoughts thrumping as loud as the school band’s drums while he scans the booming crowd. fukurodani just won a championship, and the first thing bokuto does is look for you. he doesn’t feel like it’s a win worth celebrating, not yet, until he can do it by your side. as he sets his eyes on your familiar figure on the bleachers, it’s like the whole world drowned out by themselves. all he could see was your eyes lit from happiness, arms waving, and all he could hear was your voice calling out his name. before bokuto knows it, he was running to you, arms open to give the biggest hug he could ever provide. with his forelimbs encapsulating your middle, he lifts you from the ground and spins you around—bokuto’s childlike smile widening as he hears your squeals and giggles. so this is what winning really feels like. oh!
ꕤ you feel like you beat the cheshire cat in the grin forming on your face as you got back your exam results in chemistry. a perfect score, ha! the little celebratory dance happening in your mind was broken by the familiar voice at your side. he peeks through your shoulder and chuckles, “took you long enough to surpass me.” it’s your seatmate, kuroo, who made everything a competition since freshmen year–academic assessments included. “want me to get some band-aids for your bruised ego?” you tease and mock him enjoying the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. you didn’t notice he’s actually not paying attention to any of your words. with his head placed on the palm of his hand perched in his desk, kuroo can’t resist a smile despite your boasting. pride, ego, and academic morale set aside as he admires you—completely unaware of the fondest look as he takes in your beam. it’s no surprise you got so taken aback when tetsurō suddenly blurts out, “you’re so fucking pretty, did you know that?” oh?
ꕤ your childhood friend suna sees the annoying yellow-haired miya first, then, you seated right across atsumu in the high school cafeteria. belonging in the same friend group, it’s a must that you sit together for lunch every day as compensation for the busy schedules as seniors. carrying his food tray, rintarō stops in his tracks when he saw you laughing–loudly and carelessly with your eyes closed and head thrown back, most probably because of a stupid joke his equally stupid teammate made. “what the hell was so funny?” suna thinks and feels all things at once. he’s resisting the urge to smack atsumu at the back of the head in jealousy, he feels sick in the stomach realizing he wasn’t the one who elicited that beautiful laugh from you, he wants to drop the food and walk right over to kiss that damn lips. his daze gets vanquished by the smile you gave him as you caught a glimpse of him behind atsumu. “hey rin, over here!” you call out and tap the seat next to you. as you instinctively rest your head on his shoulder when he sat down, everything finally made sense to suna. oh no.

⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ WHERE’S THE TROPHY? HE JUST COMES RUNNING OVER TO ME!
↳ part one!
(american)footballer!jason grace x fem!reader
masterlist | rules
on the radio . . . the alchemy (taylor swift)
an this is dedicated to everyone who said i should write a part 2 thank u for supporting my agenda <3 AND thank you to all the people who helped me understand hs football culture i hope this was a realistic depiction 😓 !!
football never failed to make you feel anxious. before you started dating jason, you didn't really care for it, only showing up for games because you liked the whole 'team spirit' thing and because it was a good excuse to hang out with your friends. now, however, things have changed
since it was jason's whole life, you took it upon yourself to learn all about the rules of the game and the roles of the different players (with a special interest in jason's role for no reason in particular). now, whenever you showed up to a game, you'd actually be watching your school's every move, ignoring your friends' banter and focusing on jason and jason alone
'this is just a friendly match' is the mantra you kept repeating in your head as you watched. you knew that deep down, having a match sprung up on him like this bothered jason, even though it wouldn't count for anything. you also knew that this would affect his skill regarding the game. at this point, you've memorised jason's every move by heart, and you could tell that today just wasn't his day
the rest of the team looked pretty hopeless too. with their captain in this condition, how could they stay positive? they relied on jason to lift their spirits and up their motivation. little did they (and you) know, jason relied on you to lift him up
ever since you started actually paying attention to games, cheering him and only him on, wearing his jersey with his surname plastered on your back, his prowess went from amazing to formidable. there were times when juggling schoolwork, social life and being the captain of the football team really got to him, and he almost considered shutting himself off from the world. but then he'd remember your sugary smile and kind words and addictive lips and he'd feel rejuvenated. just the thought of you alone was like a lifeline to him
this was one of those times. he turned to look at you, sitting all pretty on the bleachers. despite being in the midst of a sea of purple, jason could pinpoint you within a millisecond. he gave you a small grin, and you waved at him as you sported a smile of your own
"go jason!" you yelled, your voice making jason feel like he ate some of the ambrosia greek demigods would in those myths you learnt about in class. all of a sudden, he was full of energy and quickly passed that on to his teammates, hyping them all up for the rest of the game. they could still win this
and they did. others believed it was a miracle, but jason knew what it was. it was you. if you weren't there, they probably would've suffered a scathingly embarrassing loss against CHB high, who'd been shading them for their 'too rigid' style of playing. begrudgingly, their headmaster brought out the trophy, about to present it to jason when he realised the boy had disappeared
jason didn't care about the trophy. instead of collecting it, taking a few pictures and making a speech, he ran over to you - nearly jumping over the barrier between the bleachers and the pitch to give you a very heated kiss. how could he care about the trophy when his real prize had been here all along?
(the picture of the two of you kissing had been passed around school and you'd gotten teased relentlessly afterwards, but you didn't care. you truly were in your own world - who were you to fight the alchemy?)

Work Fiancées
Natasha Romanoff x Female Reader
You and Natasha take the next step in your relationship
Note: Work Wives (First Date, Coach Nat) is back hehe. One of my fave Nats is in this series and since volleyball season starts today I thought why not write a new fic for Coach Nat. Y’all enjoy!
Natasha Romanoff Masterlist 1, Natasha Romanoff Masterlist 2, Main Masterlist
One thing you’ve always noticed about Natasha is how observant she is. She always has a plan. Whether it’s her guiding you around a crowded place, or leading her team to historical wins, Natasha is a planner.
But today, you’ve got a plan for her. It has taken some orchestrating and 40 very willing athletes, but Natasha has no idea what is about to happen.
“Why are we going out tonight, baby?” Natasha asks from her place at the bathroom counter. “It’s a Monday.”
“Why not? I can’t take my super hot girlfriend out to dinner?” You joke. You wrap your arms around her from behind and make eye contact in the mirror.
“That’s a good enough reason,” she says, smiling at you. You kiss her neck and walk out of the bathroom.
Walking to your dresser, you reach into your drawer for what you need and slip the box into your pocket. Natasha emerges from the bathroom a few minutes later ready to go.
You take her to one of your favorite restaurants. The owner knows you both by name and always gives you teacher discounts. Knowing what you’re up to tonight, he covers the entire cost.
“Thanks for the dinner, Happy!” you thank him.
“Yes, thank you!” Nat adds.
“Anytime ladies, have a good one!”
You leave the restaurant with Natasha, and she gets in the driver’s seat.
“What album would you like?” Nat asks.
“Hm. Let’s do Lover,” you say. She doesn’t bat an eye as she turns on the Taylor Swift album.
She starts driving back to your place, but quickly your plan is getting into motion. You get the coded text from Wanda.
“Oh, hey Wanda just texted me and needs me to run back to the school to pick up some paperwork. Can we stop on the way home?” You ask her.
“Sure thing. I also wanted to stop by Yelena’s, but we’ll go to the school first,” Nat says.
You breathe a sigh of relief. Yelena is not at home; you know that much. Natasha turns into the parking lot of the school. The middle school is right next to it and the parking lot is full.
“I wonder why there’s so many people there tonight. Must be a game,” Nat wonders aloud.
She parks behind the school. You reach for her hand and ask her to come with you. Nat doesn’t question it much.
Not until you open the door, and she hears music playing over the speakers of the gym. She looks down to notice roses lining the walkway to the gym.
“Baby, what is this?” She asks.
“Let’s go inside,” you say, holding her hand tightly.
She walks by your side as you approach the doors of the gym. Wanda opens one for you and shoots you a wink and a smile. Another colleague, Monica, stands with her. They both helped you with this.
As Lover plays over the speakers at just a high enough level so that you can hear it, you walk Natasha to the center of the gym and up the bleachers stairs.
“What are we doing?” Nat asks. Her eyes are examining the room, looking for the answer.
“You’ll see,” you say. You give Wanda a thumbs up and everyone gets into motion.
It starts with a few players walking to the center with their respective sports balls in hand. Volleyball and soccer. They sit them on the ground in a seemingly random pattern and the next group comes out. In total, 40 balls end up on the gym floor in a pattern.
You think she’s probably starting to put this together.
“Natasha,” you begin. “Stand with me?”
You take her hand, and she stands next to you. She’s looking at you, so you smile and direct her attention to the court.
Her eyes go wide as she reads the words that the balls have spelled out. When she turns back to you, you are on one knee. A gold banded ring sits in a felt box in your hand.
“Y/n,” she chokes out, her eyes filling with tears.
“Natasha,” you say. “I’m going to cry, but I’m going to say what I rehearsed.” You both laugh at that.
“Natasha Romanoff, this is the place where we first met. This gym right here is where I met you on faculty orientation day and I was so nervous. But you took me in, and you taught me everything I needed to know about this place and these people. I knew I loved you then. And we spent so many hours here being best friends. Thankfully, Yelena pushed us together. Since then, I have fallen even more deeply in love with you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Natasha and you both are sobbing messes at this point.
“Natasha Romanoff, as these wonderful athletes and friends have helped me ask, will you marry me?”
“Yes! Yes, I will marry you,” Natasha says through her happy tears.
“She said yes!” a chorus of voices yell as you stand up and slip the ring onto Natasha’s finger.
“I love you,” you tell her.
“I love you so much,” she replies.
And you kiss her. You kiss her for entirely too long, but you don’t care. She is going to finally be your wife.
Wanda plays Love Story over the speakers as everyone continues to celebrate. You take Natasha’s hands and walk down the bleachers together.
“Thank you everyone! I couldn’t have pulled this off without any of you. Me and Coach Nat love you all!” You tell them.
The teams take turns hugging you and Natasha. You love seeing how they interact with Natasha. The girls leave and you’re left with Wanda and Monica.
“Wanda, you were in on this?” Nat asks the woman. “You too, Monica?”
“We were,” Wanda answers. “Now I think you two should go home.”
“Oh?” Nat asks. She raises her brow.
“Ew, not like that,” Monica jumps in.
“Right,” you say. “Let’s go, baby.”
You hug and thank Wanda and Monica again. You both can’t stop smiling as you drive home. At your house, you open the door to reveal all of your family and friends.
“Surprise!” Yelena leads the pack with Kate at her side.
You both hug everyone and thank them for being here to celebrate the two of you.
Once you settle into the party, Natasha turns to you, “I love you and I can’t believe you did all of this for me. For us.”
“I love you too, Natasha. I can’t wait to marry you.”
“I can’t wait to marry you either.”
Natasha kisses you again and you melt into your own world. Your plan went perfectly and the greatest woman in the world is going to be with you forever. She will finally be your wife.

Secret Love Song | Sung Hanbin
Tumblr media
And nobody knows I'm in love with someone's baby I don't wanna hide us away Tell the world about the love we making I'm living for that day, someday
summary: afraid of having attention on herself from dating the school's most beloved, y/n y/l/n hides her relationship with sung hanbin. pressured to keep this act up, she begins to reap the consequences of doing so.
pairing: sung hanbin x fem! reader
word count: 12k
playlist: secret love song - little mix, cornelia street - taylor swift, shadow - seventeen
warnings: jealousy, suggestive, both of their thinking gets a bit toxic imo, lots of miscommunication, y/n has trust issues, hanbin is a little insecure, anxiety, profanity (lmk if i missed any!)
The cafeteria was busy with everyone rushing to get a meal in the small period between classes. Friends talk about the outrageous amount of homework that teachers assigned or the crazy things that they were taught because they forget that the people they are teaching are just young high school students. Failed whispers gossiping about what happened over the weekend.
A topic being on the school's basketball team's pointing guard, Sung Hanbin, being tied down to cheer captain, Yoo Jimin. Witnesses talking about how they caught them underneath the bleachers outside near the football field during the halftime of last week's game. His lips on hers and their hands where they shouldn't be in public.
This could be rumors. This could be the truth. It's up to the recipient if they choose to believe it or not.
Y/N knew it wasn’t true because they have been dating for about 6 months now.
"Honestly they're pretty cute. It's nothing surprising if they are a thing." Zhanghao's voice muffled behind the straw as he took a sip out of his drink.
"Dude." Yunjin whacked the male on the arm. She quickly reassured Y/N," Don't listen to him. Everyone knows that they're just close friends."
"You're acting like Y/N is going to do anything about her crush. Don't give her that toxic positivity."
With a roll of her eyes, Y/N scoffed out," Thanks for believing in me, Hao. I appreciate the hope you have for me."
"I'm just stating the facts. You've liked him for how long? And I have not seen you guys talk at all."
"Yeah, they have!" Yunjin tried to recollect exactly when but blanked out.
"Like once? When he asked for the answers to the science homework? I’m sorry. He and his whole posse are totally out of our leagues."
"I hope you fail tryouts tonight."
"Yunjin." Y/N sighed," Too far."
"He's pissing me off."
Zhangho mocked Yunjin, flicking her off in the process. In response, the girl whacked him on his head. While her best friends bickered, she couldn't help looking over at the table in the middle of the room. Zhanghao was right. Despite them already dating, she still struggled to believe that she was. And the way that Zhanghao talked about it like it would be something atrocious, this is why she preferred to keep their relationship under wraps and away from the public’s eye. If her own best friend couldn’t see them together, how could anybody else? And she knew the comments from people who didn’t know her would be more harsh.
Y/N eyed how Jimin was sitting so close to him. With every movement, their arms and shoulders would touch.
Jimin rose her arm to hang off his shoulder, leaning into his ear to whisper into his ear that made his lips raise into a smile. Just as Hanbin was about to reply to whatever the girl had to say, another body came into her view and blocked away the school's new "couple". Letting out a breath that she didn't know she was holding, she looked up to find Matthew. He was a year younger, a grade below, but she had American literature with him. They didn't really talk much except when they would get paired during class but then again, Y/N didn't really talk to people outside of her circle.
"H-Hey, Y/N."
"Hi."
Matthew gleamed at the simple response, his fingers playing with the strap of his backpack. As he remained silent, she looked around the table before looking back up at him," Is there something you need?" "Oh… uhm…" he stumbled to take his bag. Placing it roughly on the table that had the three of them grasping at their trays so that their food didn't jump too far out of their plates. Digging deep into the trenches of his bag, he spared each of them a bright smile before pulling out a crumpled-up flower. A single white rose and he shyly began to hand it to Y/N.
More like shoved it into her hands.
"I was wondering… if you would like to go to the winter formal with me. I mean I know that you don't know me too well and I don't know you too well but I've always thought you were pretty. And maybe we could get to know each other through this. So be my date?" In the corner of her eyes, she saw his friends huddled at the door. One of them filming the whole interaction.
“Matthew, I’m sorry.", His face fell in disappointment. Y/N quickly shook her head, attempting to stop him from crying but she could see the tears already beginning to fall," It's just I wasn't planning to go is all! I'll have to figure it out with my parents and I don't have money to go. I’ll get back to you, yeah?"
Blinking away the rest of his tears, he let out a sigh of relief, "Oh. Okay. Well, I'll see you later."
Before Y/N could even say anything, he scurried away. Pushing past his group of friends that ran after him, slapping him on his shoulder and back as they made a commotion.
"That wasn't easy to watch," Yunjin spoke through clenched teeth. Zhanghao picked up the rose from Y/N's lap who was still staring at the empty door in complete guilt.
"Well… this is how you can tell someone likes you." He rose it in the air as if he were examining an exotic flora. "So start living in reality. The both of you. Because Sung Hanbin has never spared more than a glance at Y/N in the past four years”
Funny enough, Hanbin himself had not been able to take his eyes off the girl for more than a minute since the second she walked in. _ Right foot. Left foot. Deep breath in. Deep breath out.
She couldn’t take it anymore.
Y/N let out a dry heave, crouching over her knees. Having physical education right after lunch was pure evil. She could feel today’s lunch. Maybe chugging the banana milk before coming out was a bad idea too. It was beneficial for the people in sports that had to leave early to compete at other schools but she wasn’t a part of any sports so they could’ve put her during any other part of the day. Her body was pulled forward by Yunjin who kept her speed at a slow jog. Huffing through each breath,” The faster we get this done, the more we can hide from Coach Kim.”.
“Left!.” A crowd of male voices exclaimed, running past her in a speed that mocked her. Damn basketball team. Their heights offended her too. The grimace on her face stayed until that familiar flop of hair running in the back appeared. Of course, Sung Hanbin being the captain of the basketball team had to lead an example to other players and make sure all his teammates were accounted for. So despite possibly being the fastest, he stayed towards the end to make sure that the players who weren’t able to keep up and no one was left behind.
Suddenly, Hanbin turned around and began to run backward. Raising an eyebrow in question, Y/N continued to jog. He looked around the area, especially on Yunjin who was still beside her before his eye fell down into a wink at her before turning back around and catching up with the rest of his team.
All prior complaints dissipated into the air. She struggled to hide her blush from his flirtatious attempts but that failed when Yunjin stopped them and held her cheeks together. Worried that she was going to faint from the way her cheeks were turning so red.
After everyone had finished the two laps, Coach Kim lined everyone up along the white lines. “Alright, before I send off half of you, we’re going to play a little game of dodgeball.”
Coach Kim earned boos from the tough crowd but he waved them off and began to read down his roster.
“Coach, why don’t we play it a little differently? Couple dodgeball? Girl as striker and boy as the defender?”
“That’s so boring too! You all take too long to get each other out!” A girl shouted from the other side of the line.
“How about we change that up too and have the boy as the striker and the girl as the defender?” A girl with pig tails asked.
Coach Kim obviously thought that was a good idea since he didn't wait for a vote from the class as he immediately divided the class up in half using the method of giving a person a number between 1 and 2.
Y/N looked around at everyone frantically picking their partners. During this game, she always partnered with Yunjin. They always purposely got out so that they could run off and hide somewhere away from everyone’s view to watch episodes of this anime named Bluelock. But now that Yunjin was split apart from her and on the other team, she didn’t know who to choose as her partner and if anybody even wanted to be her partner.
“1?” A familiar voice came out from the chaos of the crowd, their hand reaching to grab her wrist. Hanbin smirked down at Y/N’s look of surprise, her eyebrows raised and lips ajar. His hand slowly trailed down to interlock their fingers together.
Oh he’s getting quite brave. The fight to hide her blush failed once again. But reality hit when she heard other people in their team complaining about how they wanted to be Hanbin’s partner. The ones reminding her why they were in this position in the first place as they questioned who she was and how in any way she was special enough to have Hanbin choose her so quickly. She began to try to pry her fingers out of his,” Hanbin, we can’t.”
“What? Be partners? I don’t see why now.”
” Yeah but partners don’t hold hands like we are.”
Almost like he wasn’t paying attention to a single thing he was saying, Hanbin used his thumb to rub out the crease between her eyebrow created by the pout on her face. Y/N turned her head from side to side to shake his hand off, “Hanbin!” She whisper screamed.
“I don’t know who that is. I only go by one name.”
“Whatever.”
“Whose Hanbin?”
“Shut up, dude.”
“Dude? Hanbin? What are these names?”
Binnie was just on the tip of her tongue but the sound of the whistle brought everyone’s attention to the middle. Using this distraction, she snuck her hand from Hanbin's grasp before any more questioning glances made their way.
All while Coach Kim was trying to give instructions on how to play the game, she could feel his hand linger near hers. The feeling of his fingertips on her palms, close to interlocking their fingers but never doing it. She loved him. Loved how he respected her space and despite pestering her so much about it, listened and didn’t continue actions that made her uncomfortable.
She ached to hold his hand in public.
Wished she didn’t care too much about the retributions.
The whistle rang through the air again to commence the beginning of the game. Everybody rushing into their sports and grabbing a ball from the middle of the court.
Y/N knew it wasn’t going to be normal. She also knew that they were going to be one of the first ones to get out.
Normal partners, they held onto their partners by their shirts or by holding them on their shoulders.
But Hanbin’s arms were around Y/N’s waist, holding her tightly to his chest. It was honestly a little hard to maneuver around with the limitations of space.
The sound of the ball rushing through the air buzzed in Y/N's ear as she flinched away to avoid getting hit all while pushing Hanbin behind her who felt like a 3 potato sacks that she was dragging. The boy was much too happy while playing a game of dodgeball, his grip only tightening as he tucked his chin into her neck.
"Binnie, you're going to have to move if you want there to any chance of us winning."
Longing the vowels in each word, he whispered into her ear," I don't caree~".
To everyone’s surprise except hers, they were the second pair to get out. Gasps of how Hanbin usually lasts until the end. Walking off to the side, they stood and watched the remaining teams. After few minutes and nobody else getting out after them, Hanbin leaned down to whisper in her ear,” Do you want to get out of here?"
She rose her eyebrow," And how would we do that?"
Hanbin looked over at the game and examined the game. More like he was checking to see how Yunjin and her partner was doing. The duo were pretty still very much into the game and it seemed like they weren't going to get out anytime soon. Y/N watched as his arm shot up to garner Coach Kim's attention who stared over at them in question.
"Do you need more balls from the storage, sir? Y/N and I would have no problem grabbing some."
Coach Kim eyed the balls that went off the distance. He shrugged and nodded, honestly not really caring.
Hanbin wasted no time and walked in front to guide them toward the storage. His long legs allowed for their trip to be shorter and faster despite Y/N’s little complaints from her struggling to catch up, practically jogging. He kicked away the rock that held the door open in a comical way that almost fostered a giggle out of her. With a gentle smile on his face, he held the door open with his one hand. Y/N shook her head at his antics, rushing to get inside so he wouldn't have to hold it any longer for her.
Once the both of them were inside, the door was shut between them. Only the light from the windows shining in for them. Luckily the balls were in an easy find because they were in a visible place. Y/N being the one who found it decided to grab it especially since Hanbin was doing who knows what behind her with the jump ropes.
The only con is that it was a high place tucked besides two boxes.
But it was doable. Getting up onto her tippy toes, she reached up. Stretching out her body to grow tall to grab it but to her avail, it failed. So she tried again, jumping with more force each time. It took the fifth try for the bag to finally budge, it slowly sliding down. What she didn't know was that as she moved the bag, it was moving the box to the right forward.
"Cmon." She muttered underneath her breath, grabbing a handful of the net to pull it forward.
In the corner of her eye, she saw the box tipping forward. Quickly, she reached her other arm out to catch it but a body came up behind her to help catch it as well.
Once she turned her head, Y/N's mind was going haywire. She could not focus with how close he stood to her. You'd think she would be used to it by now. But each time, she got a close glimpse of his face. Starstruck is what could be used to describe; her heartbeat pounding in her ears and her breath picking up a pace. Looking over the details of his face from the curvature of his nose to his soft lips, she couldn't look away.
"You know… usually, people say thank you for their life rather than just checking them out."
Her face scrunched up in disgust," I was not checking you out!"
Hanbin ruffled her hair with one hand and pushed the box back into place. He then helped Y/N pull down the rest of the bag. Y/N pulled the bag up to her chest to distribute the weight better. She tried to back up of the little corner she was in but Hanbin's body blocked her from doing so.
"What are you doing?"
Hanbin quickly motioned to her to be quiet with a finger to his lips before cupping a hand behind his ear. Y/N turned around so she was now facing him with an raised eyebrow.
"Doesn't sound like anybody got out."
A smirk grew on his face, her cheek crinkling up to look like cat whiskers. Like muscle memory, her thumb ran over the lines of one of his most beloved features.
"If you keep looking at me like that, I might just kiss you."
Y/N snapped out of her trance, her hand falling onto his shoulder and resting there. She leaned forward so that her face was under his. She tilted her head up, looking him straight the eyes. "Would you?" A loud shriek escaped from her mouth as her feet were suddenly off the floor and she was placed on a tower of mats. His arms caging her between them, slitting himself between her legs. He leaned in so close that the tips of their noses brushed against hers, his lips barely hovering over hers.
Like a game, she leaned back against the wall to run from him. His lips chasing hers, desperate for even the slightly touch. A small peck given by her. Hanbin groaned in annoyance.
He moved one hand to rest against her bare thigh while the other wrapped around her waist to pull her closer to him.
Like magnets, they stuck to one another. The space between them now closed as their bodies mushed together like a perfect puzzle piece.
The white noise of the fan mixing together with the sound of their heavy breathing. Y/N could feel the butterflies going crazy in her stomach when his hand that was previously on her waist slip underneath her school t-shirt.
The way his hands slowly moved and brushed against her a sensitive spot that evoked a giggle. Hanbin couldn't help the smile at the sound. "Come on, babe. I'm losing it here."
"I don't know. It doesn't feel right snogging another women's man."
With his forehead against hers, Hanbin frowned in confusion, " What do you mean?"
"Last I heard, you were dating Jimin."
"Jimin, huh?" Hanbin dramatically leaned away from Y/N, his arm still secured around her waist. He let out a deep sigh," You're right. I shouldn't be having such thoughts about another man's woman."
This time, Y/N rose her eyebrow up in confusion.
"With that junior."
"Oh, Matthew?" "What was going on there anyways?"
"He asked me to the formal."
"Oh is that right?" Hanbin wiggled his eyebrows," How cute is that?"
"Shut up." She pushed at his shoulder that didn't budge at the movement.
"Did he give you flowers?" A peck on her forehead," Balloons?" A peck on her cheek, " What color are you two wearing?," A kiss on her lips.
"You're soooo annoying. I said no to him."
He tucked a strand hair behind her ear, " Good. Because you're mine."
"Yours? I'd be surprised. Everyone is saying you're Jimin's."
"Would I be in your arms if I was hers? I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than here." He ran his thumb over cheek," I'd go anywhere to be with you." Pulling her back in for a tight hug as he wrapped around of his arms around her waist.
Y/N couldn't help the way her cheeks burned. To hide her reaction, she tucked her face between the crack of his neck and returned the hug back to him.
The moment was interuppted by a rapid knock at the door that had her immediately push Hanbin off of her. His hand quickly grabbed onto hers when he stumbled back against the cushions behind him. Yunjin's voice could be heard outside of the room, asking Y/N if she was in there.
"Crap." Y/N started to push her hair back into place, adjusting her clothes back into place. "Dude, hide."
"What, why?" He whispered in a hush tone.
"Don't you think she'll find it odd if we're just chilling in here together?"
"And what's wrong with that?". It was as if he couldn't see the seriousness of the situation. A boy and a girl in a room alone was strange and questionable in so many ways. Especially with how he was leaning his body into hers again, squeezing her hand, "I think it's about time she found out."
"Binnie, just-" The door opened before she could finish her sentence, the doors were open and Yunjin was in the room with them. Luckily she was looking around the room first since they were tucked away in the corner. That quick second allowed Y/N to realize that their hands were still interlocked together and yanked her hand out of his grip. She had unintentionally done it so fast and rough, failing to see how Hanbin's eyebrow began to furrow.
"Yunjin~" She called out to the lost girl, grabbing the bag of extra balls beside her. Yunjin's head quickly snapped over in their direction, her eyes immediately looking Y/N in hers and widening at the sight and thought of the two being alone in a room together.
Y/N rose her hand up to show the bag of balls in her hands, " You came just in time. Can't find anything in this junk yard."
"Right…" Yunjin only moved only because Y/N dragged her out of the small, congested room. She frantically waved goodbye to Hanbin whose gaze were directed to the floor. Yunjin herself wasn't able to figure what emotion he was showing but couldn't help but see that he resembled a kicked puppy on the side of the road.
Finally breathing in some fresh air of outside, Y/N threw the bag over her shoulder and began walking back to the game that wasn't even halfway done yet.
Behind her, she could Yunjin jogging to catch up to her. Whispering yelling underneath the breath that she couldn't wait to tell Zhanghao about how Y/N got to spend time with her "crush". _ Yunjin has been Y/N's best friend since kindergarten. There is no Y/N without Yunjin and there is no Yunjin without Y/N.
So maybe it wouldn't hurt for Y/N to tell about Yunjin about the fact that she isn't single and has a boyfriend that she's been with for six months now. Also that the boyfriend is Sung Hanbin who she has been gushing over and slightly obsessed with since middle school. Yunjin rambled on and on that she was happy that Y/N was able to interact with Hanbin especially after all these years and that she totally thinks that Hanbin is into her despite the fact that in the two minutes that Yunjin saw them together, Y/N tried her best to not look over at him in fear that she would reveal things just by the way that she looked at him.
Maybe it wouldn't be too bad if they went public.
Jimin and Hanbin's friendship never bothered her especially since she knows Jimin views as a brother. But maybe going public would also put a halt to all the rumors about Jimin and him that irked every time she thought about it.
Y/N pulled her shirt over her head to put on her button up instead. Currently she was in one of the empty shower stalls. While she's known most of the people out there for long as she has been attending public school, she preferred to have privacy while changing.
While clasping the buttons together, she got a big whiff of cigarette smoke.
The shower stalls had a vent that was just placed perfectly on a wall that has an alley on the other side where all students that smoke hid to have their daily dose of those nicotine sticks.
She opted to ignore it as it was none of her business and all she had left to do was to tuck her shirt into her skirt. As she pushed the bunched cloth into the hem, her movements halted when she heard the mumble of her name.
"Yeah, she was with him most of the time."
"Damn that sucks! Weren't you trying to be his partner in the game? Isn't that why you brought it up to Coach Kim?"
Y/N inched closer to the wall, keeping up onto her tippy toes as the vent was so far high up on the wall.
"And he partnered up with Y/N instead?"
The girl let out a long and heavy sigh, seemingly taking a drag of her cigarette before continuing her rant," Partner up? More like she leeched herself onto him. So annoying. Then they were the first to get out."
"Oh my gosh. Hanbin must've been so annoyed. He's literally the best at any sports he plays."
"Right? Then they disappeared off and I never got to talk to him because by the time I found him, he was already with his friends."
"What? Didn't you get out right after Hanbin and Y/N?" The other girl let out an horrendous cackle," And way to make it so obvious. I'm so surprised that Coach didn't say shit about that. "
"That old man is tired. I was doing him a favor by making the game shorter. But anyways, I couldn't find him. Gosh it was so annoying."
"Oh well. The time will come."
"I could've gotten it over with if Y/N wasn't in the way."
"Hey… at least you know she isn't any competition."
"Right? In no way would Hanbin ever go for someone like Y/N."
"You're like 10 times prettier than she is, hands down."
"Girl, I already know that. Like literally he is way too good for her and if she confessed like anyone else would, let's just pray for her because that wouldn't end well."
Having enough of this conversation, Y/N threw on the rest of her outfit and snatched her backpack out of the ground. Pushing past half of the girls, she rubbed at the tears that were fighting to come out. She couldn't believe she was crying because of a gossip. She couldn't believe she was running away from Yunjin who would be the one to comfort in times like this.
She couldn't believe she was dumb enough to even think that the world would accept them. _
A kiss on her neck distracted her from the spam of messages coming from Yunjin about how Matthew asked about her after school. The culprit’s hand pulled the cellular device away from her and placed it on the night stand. Hanbin’s warm hand coming back down to run over the exposed skin of her midriff. A giggle escaped from her lips as he began to lay multiple pecks running down to her collar bone.
Pushing him off slightly, “What are you doing?”
“Trying to get your attention.” He pouted,” I’m so tired and all I want to do is cuddle with the hottest girl in school.”
“Hottest girl?”
He hushed her, bringing up his index finger to her lips.
“But she’s too busy talking to her friends that she spends 24/7 with.” He dramatically sighed, allowing his body to fall on top of hers. Tucking his face into the crook of her neck.
“Oh shut up. I know you chose me as your partner on purpose during that game. I don’t want to place blame on anybody but if you weren’t too hyperfocused on hugging me the whole time, we could’ve won.” No snarky response was heard. Instead, she could feel him breathing in her scent that had her scrunching her neck in response.
“Dude, I probably smell like sweat.”
“No, you smell so good.” His voice muffled,” Like cheese.”
Pushing him off again, she mumbled underneath her breath,” Idiot.”
“I wanted to get out first so I could spend time with you. Don’t act like I don’t know yours and Yunjin’s secrets. But she just had to get out so soon.”
“Well you have me all to yourself now.” Y/N pushed back his hair out of his face. Like a puppy, Hanbin gleamed at the gesture and words that came out her mouth.
"By the way, what's your favorite number?"
"_" She raised her eyebrow up," Why?"
"No reason."
"You sound very guilty right now."
He pulled his phone out and began typing hurriedly on his phone. Y/N propped herself up into a 45 degree angle, trying to get a peek of his screen but Hanbin quickly hid the screen with a devilish smile.
"Heyy…" She began poking his shoulder, hoping to annoy him enough to get him to give in. But instead, Hanbin took the opportunity to roll over and lay his head on her stomach. He grabbed her hand that was poking at his shoulder and began to nibble at her finger.
“Stoooop, you little vampire.”
Hanbin placed her hand onto his chest, bringing his phone up high enough so the both of them could look at his screen.
"You're going to put that number on your jersey?"
"Yeah, I want to show that I'm yours somehow."
"That's pretty smart."
"Told you I was."
"Mhm and that's why this was suppose to be tutoring session for your D on your latest Stats test." Hanbin shushed her before pulling up his Instagram and successfully distracting them again from changing their cuddle session to what it was suppose to be before which was a study session.Occasionally they would laugh at the reels that would pop up but his feed was full of a lot of people she didn’t really know or talk to. So Y/N resorted to playing with the strings of his hoodie. Suddenly the loud commotion of earlier today caught her attention. Looking up, she saw an angle of Matthew’s proposal. Someone had sent a video to the school’s instagram account to post for the Assuming where the camera was, it was his friend that was recording earlier today.
She could feel herself physically cringe at watching it all go down again. Expecting Hanbin to laugh about it, she quickly covered his mouth to intercept any sort of teasing that may come to his head. But instead his face remained stoic and he sat up, her hand falling down to her side. He was hunched over as he rewatched the video again.
To get jealous was rare for Hanbin. In the time frame of their whole relationship, which isn’t long but isn’t too short, Hanbin has never showed any signs of jealousy except for one incident before they started dating. He was pretty confident in himself and the two of them always reassured one another that they were the only ones that had each other’s eyes.
“Wait, what’s wrong?”
“You didn’t say no.”
She sat up fully as well, scooching closer to the end of the bed where he sat. “Well, I’m planning to.”
“Why didn’t you say no right then and there? You told me that you did.”
“I just didn’t want to embarrass him in front of his friends.”
“It seems like you’re going to say yes to the guy.” He pointed at his phone.
“But I’m not. I’m planning to say no.”
“He doesn’t seem to think so.”
“I’m going to tell him no!” And while they were on this subject, she couldn’t help but bring up something that’s been bothering her as well,” Why aren’t you denying the rumors about Jimin?”
“What rumors?”
“There’s rumors that the two of you were behind the bleachers and that the two of you are together.”
“Well first of all, the girl I was behind the bleachers with was you. And those rumors have been around since the minute people realized that we’re friends and hang out in the same friend group. It’d be weird if I deny them now if I never acknowledged them before. Besides, those rumors have never bothered you until now. Why are they bothering you now?”
“Then why are you so bothered that I’m planning to say no later? You know I wouldn’t go to the dance with somebody else.”
“I asked you last week and you straight up told me no. He asks you and he gets a, “I’ll have to see. ”
Y/N ran her hand through her hair in frustration. “You know why I said no to you.”
Hanbin returned his gaze back to the dark screen of his phone,” Yeah… yeah… I know. Everyone is going to have something to say about you and me and it’s just too much attention.”
“If I told Matthew no right away, I wouldn’t hear the end of it, especially since he did it in front of so many people.”
The two in silence. Both coming to their conclusion. Y/N came to the conclusion that the both of them were in the wrong and getting a little too jealous. But it didn’t feel like everything was said as Hanbin stayed perched at the end of his bed, his phone back on and scrolling through the comments underneath the video. She reached out an arm out to him but he abruptly stood up. He was quick to grab his duffle bag which was tucked away beside her closet.
“I’ve got tryouts.”
“Binnie…” Getting up onto her knees and was about to get up off the bed to walk over to him but he stopped her ,” Cmon..”
Using his hand on her shoulder to guide her back down into her bed, Hanbin leaned a placed a kiss on her forehead, “I'm sorry." He brought his hand up to cut her cheek, running his thumb along her cheek," I overreacted. I'll see you later?" Even though he looked her in the eyes and said that. She struggled to believe him. Reluctantly, she nodded her head slowly. Before she could even utter another word, he was out of the door and down the stairs.

Despite facetiming later that night, Y/N still felt there was something on Hanbin’s mind. Like he still had something to say. That morning too, she didn’t receive a message from him telling her to have a good morning.
Not that she wanted him to always send it but it was so out of character for him not to.
So she couldn’t help the pain in her chest when he walked past with her friends like she didn’t exist.  But this was something that was a regular occurrence. She was the one who told him to do that. So why did she want him to look at her?
A tap of her shoulder shook her out of her shoulder. Turning again, she found Matthew with another flower in his hand. He motioned for Y/N to take it. The girl slowly took it from his hand. Honestly, she was trying to avoid him until after the dance so that the whole proposal would be useless and forgotten but she already knew that was impossible.
“So?”
“Matthew… I’m sorry. I can’t go.”
“Didn’t you say it was about money? I could pay for your ticket!”
For some reason, even though Matthew was in front of her, she couldn’t help but look over at Hanbin who was leaning up against a locker, talking animatedly to his teammates every so often.
“No… No.. it’s something else. I just can’t go with you.”
“Do you mind me asking why? I mean I know we don’t know each other all that well so I think that this would be a great time for us to get to know each other.”
“You’re quite persistent, you know?”
“I’m just curious, that’s all.”
“Okay, Matthew, it’s not something else. It’s someone else.” Feeling apologetic, she held his hands in hers ,”It doesn’t feel right for me to go to the dance with someone when I’m completely and utterly in love with someone else.”
“Is it Hanbin?”
She looked back at him in shock, “Woah, how’d you figure that out so quickly?”
“I mean, minus the fact that you won’t stop looking over at him, I think the bruise on my leg is clear evidence. He was super nice when everyone first got there and he was even giving me tips but then I mentioned my proposal to other players to make myself look cooler because they were all calling me kid because how short I am and he started getting rough.”
She knew it. She knew he was still bothered about the proposal.
“You used me to make yourself look better?”
“ I’m sorry for that. I honestly deserved getting roughed up.”
“Yeah and for also thinking that I could up your game in any way.” Y/N laughed at the thought but Matthew looking at her with an incredulous look as if she were insane halted her from continuing on.
“What do you mean? You’re one of the coolest and sweetest girls I’ve ever met. Anybody that could have you would be lucky to have you.” He shrugged as if it were the most obvious thing. “ I just don’t understand why I never see you two together.”
“Well he’s him. And I’m me. People would just look at us weird and question how someone like me could be with someone like him. Like he could do better, you know?” She didn’t know why she was spilling her feelings out to someone she barely knew. But it felt so good to say it aloud.
“Who cares about what everyone else says?”
“Me. Because I will have to hear the disapproval from everyone and how strange it is that we’re even together.”
“What matters is that the two of you like each other and that’s all that matters. Anybody else that cares and has something to say needs to get a life. And to stop watching so many movies because this is real life and those “status quos” don’t exist.”
The first bell rang signaling that their first class was about to start in 5 minutes and they needed to go now. Matthew leaned in and kissed Y/N on her cheek before she could deny it. “I truly wish you will take in what I say. Don’t hide your relationships for the sake of people you shouldn’t care about.”
The younger boy walked away before she could even say anything, leaving her dumbstruck.
Someone colliding into her shoulder snapped her out of her thoughts.
Matthew's word ran over and over again in her head like a broken record. The way he tells her like it's so easy to do so.
Maybe it is if she learned to not care so much.
The second bell warning pulled her out of her mind. The teacher from her calculus was beginning to notice that she was starting to come late to class a lot more than she should be. She bound to pull her aside to talk about it soon. Pivoting around, she rushed up the stairs to her first class.
Hanbin stood by himself at his locker now. His hands tucked into his jeans as he watched Matthew walk away. His jaw clenched tight as the loud slam of his locker echoed through the empty hall.
Apologies spilled from her mouth every millisecond as she hovered through the crowd to get to the entrance of the tunnel where the basketball team gathered.
The pep rally was about to begin in 10 minutes and she managed to escape from Yunjin and Zhanghao to be able to talk to Hanbin. To talk about their argument last night and their relationship. Because Matthew was right. Why do other people’s opinions matter? But there was still that fear and that voice in her head that told her that wasn’t a good idea.
Finally reaching an area that had some elbow room, she maneuvered past the associated student body to where a large group of boys in the school’s basketball uniform circled around who knows what. Not seeing the face she wanted to, she decided to see if he was more towards the front.
“Excuse me.” She squished past the sweaty boys and landed at the front where she found the cheerleaders putting face paint on students and athletes. The boy she was looking for had his legs spread out so he could be the same height as the girl in front of him. The girl dangerously close as she held onto his shoulder, her head leaned in to ensure that the lines she was painting on his face were perfect.
When she leaned back to laugh at something Hanbin said, Y/N realized then and there that it was Jimin.
She had to think about what she was going to do next. If she was going to do something that she regretted because of that green feeling that was currently bubbling in her chest. First, she knew that Jimin was a sweet girl that would never take another person’s boyfriend and she never cared about her friendship with Hanbin because what she had with him was so secure. Second, she wasn’t so sure how secure they were anymore and it wasn’t like Jimin knew that Hanbin was tied down, it seems like all her actions were definitely advances to something more.
So now here Hanbin and her in a janitor’s closet where she pulled him away from a confused Jimin. Y/N muttered something along the lines that she had to talk about something from Chemistry despite that class being one that took two years ago in their sophomore year.  As she walked away, she could hear people asking questions such as, “ who is that?” or “If I was Jimin, I’d be upset if someone was touching my man like that.”
“You expect me to be okay with dating rumors when you’re going around, acting like that?”
"Y/N, she was just putting face paint on me." His eyes remained away from you and on something in the background. Trying to avoid her glare.
“She’s all over you and it annoys the hell out of me. Yeah, I didn’t care before but I care now.” She couldn’t believe the words that were going to come out next,” If you want her, then go ahead and go for it. But you have to let go of me first.” She didn’t mean a single word.
“Did I actually ever have you?”
Y/N stopped her prancing in the small room and turned her body to look at Hanbin who was already looking at her.”What do you mean by that?”
“Sometimes I'm just here for fun. For the pleasure of it all. Our dates consist of hanging out in our houses and occasional dates outside of the city because you are scared to be seen by anybody else. Here, I have to act like you don’t exist and you act like I don’t exist. I want to brag about you to my friends but I can’t. I even have to remind my mom not to say anything about you to them even though she absolutely is in love with you. And I assume you never told yours about me because of how you hid me away from Yunjin. Are you that ashamed to be with me?"
“Binnie-”
“I want to hold your hand when I want to. I want to kiss you when I want to.” And he too could feel that green monster building up again at the memory from earlier today. .
He saw that? Y/N waved her hands and shook her head,”It’s not what it looks. I didn’t know he was going to do that and I wouldn’t have wanted him to do it if I had known. I’ve told you multiple times that Matthew and I have nothing going on.”
“ Then why aren’t you believing me when I say that Jimin and I aren’t as well. You’re asking why I care so much about Matthew? It’s not Matthew that I care about. It’s the fact you have never been so open to talking to me in public  and you didn’t even push him away when he kissed you even if it was a simple one on the cheek. You didn’t say no to his proposal so now I have to hear whispers about things I know that aren’t true. And I get why you did it so people wouldn’t talk but there is inevitability some. Why can’t you let there be whispers about us?”
She  watched as his face scrunched up, his fingers running along his forehead to massage the tension headache forming. “Y/N, I’m just tired. I’m so tired. Of running around. Of acting like I don’t care that we have to hide.” The pain in the chest made it hard for her to breathe as she could feel the three words threatening to come out of his lips.
Wanting to cut him off to tell him that she didn’t hide them anymore, his phone rang frantically. They let it go to voicemail but right after, it rang again.
Though the both of them didn't budge a single movement for what felt like the longest time, his phone went off again after the other one finished. Hanbin pulled the device out of his pocket, letting out a sharp exhale. “I’ll just tell them to go on without me.”
Before he could lift up the screen to see who it was, Y/N shook her head, “ It’s fine, just go.”
“No, I’m not leaving us like this again. It’s just a pep rally. I don’t have to be there.”
“And if you go missing, the whole school will freak out. Personally, I don’t want to be the reason that the school star player is missing.”
“Y/N, this is it. This is what’s wrong. Who cares about what anybody thinks? Do you not have anything to say about this?”
“I’m trying, Hanbin! I’m trying. But everyone you miss a basket or the team is having a off day, I have to listen to the crowd talk and assume things about you guys. And most of them talk about you being distracted and having a girlfriend. I don’t want to be blamed for that and have everyone scrutinize me. It’s also the fact that no one could ever imagine you with me. It’s always Jimin. It’s always who the heck is that? whenever they see me with me.  Shit, even Zhanghao can’t imagine us together.”
“But we are. And people are going to have to accept that.” Hanbin hung his head back. “And I’m trying my best to just do what we’ve been doing. Keep our relationship a secret but I can’t find the strength to go on anymore. Because sometimes I feel like I love you more than you love me. And I honestly don’t know if I can stay any longer, feeling that.”
Her heart thumped at the three words. They haven’t said I love you to one another yet. Always dangerously on the tip of their tongues but never finding the right times to do so.
And this wasn’t the context in which he was hoping he was going to say it.
Her attention shot back into the room when Hanbin’s phone rang again. He cursed under his breath, seeing his Coach’s contact name on the screen this time. “I’ve got to go.”
A silence granted permisssion to end the converstion. Hanbin slowly grabbing his backpack and throwing it over his shoulder. Y/N let out a shaky breath as he began to pass her, their shoulders brushing against each other.
“I love you, Hanbin.”
The sounds of his shoes signaled that he halted in his steps. She could hear him let out a breath of air before starting to speak.
Then the door slammed open. The short, stubby janitor shouting out,” What are you two doing in here?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(a/n: i meant to put sports, not spots! so sorry for the typo)
After the janitor caught them, his screaming caught the attention of the basketball coach who was searching the hallways from Hanbin. The star basketball player was pulled away from her before he could even reply to her declaration. Though he could see Hanbin struggling to get out of the older man’s grip, looking back at her every so often until they turned the corner to the gym.
It was true she wasn’t feeling all that well. The dizziness from nervousness and the bile rising up her throat, trying to imagine how it would be if they changed the premise of their relationship. Truely, she needed to lay down before she fell to the cold, dirty ground of the hallways.
She hoped that he saw it to be true and not said out of desperation to fix their falling relationship. Checking the clock in the corner of the room, she wished the time would go by faster so they could finish their conversation and she could tell him how much he means to her.
Multiple buzzes from her phone prompted her phone to check whatever her friends had to say now. She could feel her heart drop to her stomach and bile rising up her throat again. This time there was no way to stop it from coming out.
Opening the notification from her friends and repeated tweets from the school's gossip account. The recent headline highlighting Yoo Jimin asks Sung Hanbin to WakeOne's annual winter formal! He says yes! The photos showing different angles of the proposal. A clear look of surprise on Hanbin's face as flowers handed to him from left and right from other cheerleaders. The last photo shocked her gave her a sharp pain in her chest as Chaewon's arms were wrapped Hanbin's neck, his eyes only simply looking down at her face. His hands nowhere near to pushing him off.

Covering her mouth to control her impending sobs, Y/N quickly stood up to run over to the trash can to empty the contents of her stomach. Though Hanbin hadn’t outright said it, she could feel him putting that pause or ending their relationship in the last sentence that he had spoke to her.
He was going to be with someone that treated him right and was perfect for him.
She had her chance and she lost him.
Turning to look at the school’s nurse, she raised the question if she could stay for the rest of the day to avoid and hide her problems outside of this room but she was already scribbling down a note, shaking her head at the disgusting smell.
_
As the last bell rang, Y/N apologized to the nurse who told her that was nothing and to rest as it seemed like she was sick from stress. And the stress was beginning to take a toll on her body.
Y/N could only imagine if the nurse knew what type of stress she was going through. She would shake her head at the teenage girl.
The nurse began prepping the word and just as Y/N was about to sit down to wait, the door bursted open. A disheveled Yunjin appeared. She slapped a hand against her forehead and shook her head,” No fever.” She grabbed Y/N's face by the chin and twisted it around to check if there was anything abnormal but nothing. “Girl, you look and feel fine. So you left me alone to those heathens for nothing?”
"Tell that to the three times I've thrown up in the past hour. Guess I should’ve trusted you and just threw away that 6 dollar boba.”
"I could always buy you a new one. Are you feeling better now?”
“Yeah kinda..”
Yunjin linked arms with hers,” Great, then, let’s go meet up Zhanghao to check if he made the team or not.”
“I’m actually going to head home right now. I’ll catch the two of you tomorrow at the game-”
“Oh my gosh, noo! He’d kill us if we forget the promise we made with him.  We have to be there for him to either congratulate him or console him with a dinner.”
“I know but I still don’t feel all that good.”
Yunjin hummed in response. Although not completely convinced to let Y/N go home. While Y/N waited for the nurse to complete the last of the paperwork, she saw in the corner of her eye a familiar tall figure.
Maybe it was her nerves that prompted her to do so but she grabbed Yunjin who was completely thrown off by the change of energy in the environment. Y/N quickly pulled them both behind a curtain just in time for the door to open again.
"What are you doing-"
Y/N covered the brunette's mouth, peeking through the small slit of the curtain.
Hanbin stood inside of the nurse's office, fiddling with the strap of his backpack. "Hello, by any chance, did a Y/N Y/L/N come by today? I heard some of her friends saying she would be here."
"Oh uhm..." The nurse stumbled over her words. Crossing her fingers behind her back, Y/N hoped that she could read the room and understand what Y/N wanted. "She just left."
"Oh..." Hanbin sighed. "Do you mind if I asking what's wrong with her?"
"Hanbin, you know I can't disclose other student's health with you."
A soft chuckle filled the air and Y/N feel her heart warm at the sound. But it was still heavy with the news she read only two hours before.
"I get that. Can you just let me know if she's okay?"
"She's alright."
She could see him slowly nod and tuck his hands behind his back before bowing. "Thank you. Have a good rest of your day, I'll see you at the game tomorrow."
"Good luck tomorrow, Hanbin."
She waited for sound of the door clicking close before taking her hand off of Yunjin's mouth. Thanking the nurse profusely for lying for her despite not knowing the situation, she could feel a tug on her sweater. Turning to look at Yunjin whose face was decorated in so much shock that it was almost comical, " Why are you acting so weird? And was that Hanbin just looking for you?"
"I can explain."

"Wait, then why did he say yes to Jimin?" Yunjin scoffed, shaking her head.
Y/N hugged her pillow close to her chest. The tears beginning to fall again. She managed to hold herself together as she confessed about the secret relationship between Hanbin and her but the reminder that they were potentially over clouded her mind. She shrugged in response.
"That makes no sense though. Because he never actually broke up with you."
Zhanghao sighed and grabbed tissues from her desk, handing them over to her.
"I'm sorry."
The two girls looked up at him in confusion. In the years that they've all been friends, they have never heard those two words come out of Zhanghao's mouth. He was very unashamed of his actions and if he was ever sorry for something, he would show it through his actions.
"That I was pushing Matthew on you. That I kept saying that Hanbin wouldn't look your way."
"You're not wrong though, Hao. He wouldn't have paid attention to me if it wasn't for us having the same part time job during summer."
"Y/N, don't say that." Yunjin nudged her with her shoulder.
"You’re absolutely gorgeous. You both are. And I kept making comments like you were less than what you are."
"It's fine, Hao."
"Yeah but still I was such a dick."
"You were just trying to help me get over him. Nothing wrong with that."
Zhanghao fell back into the plethora of stuffed animals tucked in the corner. Though all was forgiven, the male couldn't stop the feeling of embarrassment and shamefulness he felt from how he acted in the last week.
Yunjin all of a sudden began giggling which earned confused looks from the other two poeple in the room. "He was so jealous then."
A smile perked up on Zhanghao's pout, " That's right! He was going so hard on Matthew that one day at tryouts. I feared for his life."
Yunjin tickled Y/N's side, her tongue sticking out," Look at you having two boys fighting over you."
"Dude, it was making me so sick. I can't even act like I could brag about it because it was stressing me out so much."
"That explains why he was asking the nurse about you. Aw, Y/N, he was looking for you!"
"Yeah... after he said yes to Jimin during the pep rally."
"I don't know if he even said yes to her. Everything happened so quick and he didn't even smile or do anything through the whole thing." Zhanghao tapped his chin," He was just... in shock."
A sudden knock on her door silenced them all. Peeking in was her mother. "Honey... Hanbin is downstairs."
Plushies flew each side of the room as her two friends scrambled to leave the room through the window but Y/N stopped them. She kneeled to the end of her bed," Can you tell him I'm sleeping already? That I'm still sick from earlier today?"
Her mother frowned before nodding, shutting the door behind her.
"Why are you avoiding him?" Zhanghao questioned, crossing his arms together," And are you not getting his texts or calls?"
"I... blocked him."
"What? Why?"
"Hao, I just don't want to deal with all of this right now. It's too overwhelming."
"If you avoid your problems, they only get worse."
"I just need some time to think about everything, okay? I feel like I got the ultimatum that I have to choose having our relationship public or losing him. Then I also think that Jimin is so much better for him because if he's with her, it'd be so much easier because she's used to the attention. "
"But he doesn't like her, he wants you." Zhanghao waved his hands from left to right," Hence why he was crying over a photo of you and him."
Y/N covered her face with the pillow that was still in her arms," I know... I know... but if he was with her, he wouldn't have to even deal with this bullshit."
Yunjin wrapped her arm around Y/N's shoulder, "I get what you're thinking but he seems like he's all in for you."
"I know... I know... I just don't know if I'm ready. I thought I was. And what if I just disappear from his life. Act like I never in it like I was before. Then he could get over him."
"So you're just going to avoid him until when?"
"Not forever. I just need a moment to think to myself. I've already heard what he has to say."
"So you're just going to let Jimin swoop up and take your man like that?"
"What? No? Yes? I don't know." Y/N abruptly stood up, shocking both of her friends. "You guys are suppose to be helping me but instead you're making me want to throw up some more." Speaking of which, she could her stomach beginning to rumble and the feeling of something up her throat. Stumbling over sheets and pillows to the bathroom, she shut the door behind her. Praying that the fan would cover the noise.
Zhanghao huffed and pulled out his phone. Yunjin decided to keep quiet and watch the show that was put on before Zhanghao came over. When he becomes stressed or annoyed, he tended to find comfort in his phone especially when he's trying to calm down and not blow up on the person he was talking to.
But at that moment, he was currently texting Hanbin to tell him the truth. For two reasons he did so. One, so he didn't have to watch his friend mope around. He disliked seeing Y/N upset especially when she begins to self deflect herself. Two, so he doesn't want to have his teammate mope around when their first scrimmage is tomorrow. While it wasn't a real game, it was still a pretty big deal.
After Zhanghao and Yunjin left, Y/N went downstairs to wash and put away the dishes that they used. Sitting on the couch was her mother, catching up on the shows she missed while at work. In front of her on the coffee table was a white pharmacy bag and bento boxes that were opened up. She walked over to see Mrs.Sung's infamous rolled egg omelette.
She always mentioned to the older lady that she makes the best.
"What's this?"
"Hanbin brought this earlier when he came by. He told me you went to the nurse's earlier that day?"
Y/N sat down and nodded. "Wasn't feeling too well."
"Well, he brought you medicine. Mrs.Sung made you congee. It's on the stove."
Using her finger, she took a peek into the bags and boxes. She could her heart melting at the sight, a note at the bottom of the bag from Hanbin. The message was short with the simple words of Get Well Soon but it meant so much more. The way he went home after practice and still came by her house to drop all of these things off despite it being a bunch of back and forth.
She could feel her mom side eyeing her and honestly, she would too.
The words replaying in her head of how he felt like he was more in love with her than she was with him. Which simply just wasn't the truth and it pained her heart to ever think that he thought that way because her actions are what prompted him to believe so.
She pulled out her phone to text Yunjin and Zhanghao if they could help her for what she was conjuring up in her head. She passed Hanbin's contact in her favorites. Debating if she should unblock him or not. Scared of what's to come next. But in order to get to the next step, she had to. Quickly, she unblocked his contact.
Soon, a spam of notifications appeared. Stating that she had 6 new notifications from messages.
Tumblr media
As she read through the messages he sent her, her vision began to blur from the tears brimming her eyes. Hearing those words written out so beautifully by him.
Cursing herself for realizing it too late. Through every comment she's heard that upset or scared her, she was given the constant reassurance by him that she'll be safe with him. Through everytime she considered that they should break up, she always told herself that Hanbin is worth it all.
Hanbin will always be worth the pain.
_
Though she tried to talk to Hanbin earlier in the day so that it wouldn't seem like she was ignoring his texts from the night prior, it seemed like the world wasn't against her today.
Because of the game tonight, the basketball team was able to leave during PE so she missed him in their last two classes that they shared together. She was able to conjure the confidence to walk up to him during lunch but she pulled away from the planning committee to help plan for the class floats that were going to come out during halftime.
At least he knew that she was going to talk to him and wasn't planning to ignore him until the school year was over. His wide eyes and the clear shout from down the hall, telling her to come to the game tonight, an indiction of so.
It was better this way especially since she wanted to surprise him tonight and she knew she could never hide anything as big as this from him. So this no talking period between them both pained and relived her.
It also gave her more time to sneak around and plan her surprise for him in the period that she was waiting for the game to start with Yunjin. They had planned to grab some hotpot to fill their stomachs but Zhanghao forgot his shoes because of first game jitters so they had to go to his house and grab them. And while they did this task for him, he also complained that he needed it before the warmups started and told them not to take so long. Text messages rushing in every other minute to check up on where they are. He was unknowingly rushing them but they let it slide this time because they will never understand men's weird obsession with smelly clothes being their good luck charm and that it was his first game.
After giving the princess his stinky shoes, the two girls went to a nearby dollar tree to get the materials she needed for what she wanted to prepare for Hanbin. Yunjin dropped Y/N back at home so that the two of them could get some rest before heading out to the game. Yunjin asked Y/N if she wanted her to pick her up but being the person she is that didn't want to inconvenience anybody, Y/N insisted that she would walk there especially since it was still going to be light out when the game started.
She had so much running around today so who could blame her for falling asleep on the couch while watching reruns of Grey's Anatomy?
Maybe then if she took Yunjin up on the offer, she wouldn't have woken up to about 35 missed calls and 60 unread texts combined from both of her best friends. She wouldn't be frantically trying to grab everything and pay for an uber to school so she could get there before the game ended.
She slept through three and half quarters. With only 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Surprisingly with how fast she threw everything together and rushed out of the house to get into the car, she didn't trip over her foot once as she stumbled out of the uber. Leaving a hefty tip for the middle aged man who had to deal with her asking if he could drive any faster despite there being traffic to the school.
Struggling to catch her breath, she saw a large crowd of people exiting the gym. Confirming the worst possibility of all the possibilities.
The game ended on her and Hanbin was left thinking that she flaked on him.
Running towards the entrance, she immediately found Yunjin who grabbed the girl by her shoulder and pushed her away the crowd that stampeding out.
"Y/N! I tried calling and texting you. Where were you?"
"For the life of me, I could not wake up."
Yunjin sighed and began to rub her forehead in frustration," The balloons are still in my car and they should still be inflated. The game just ended and they should still be getting ready to go home."
"Then we have enough time."
"We have enough time."
Y/N took a deep breath, a shaky one that was filled so much anxiety.
"Hey, you don't have to do this. A man's love is not worth risking it all for something that you are not yet comfortable to do."
Y/N quickly shook her head," No, I want to. This is for him and for me."
Yunjin gave her a tight, warm hug," You'll do great. If all goes wrong, I'm just a phone call away and Hao will be nearby." And a quick second, the soft Yunjin was gone. A strict look on her face as she pointed her head towards the large tree at the side of the school," Let's get to work."
_
Y/N nervously tapped her foot against the pavement, crossing her arms together to gather warmth as a strong gust of wind flew by.
The sound of boys yelping and clammering of the locker room gained her attention, turning her head to find Hanbin in the crowd.
Because they are teenage boys, everyone looked the same especially after taking a shower. There were no differences in hair to tell them apart. Ignoring the side eyes and quick glances, she stepped closer to the entrance just to make sure she didn't miss.
Accidentally bumping into strong frame that immediately caught her.
"Y/N!" Matthew cheered, a wide smile at her appearance. " I didn't know you were coming tonight!"
"Oh... yeahh..." Y/N smiled softly back, her eyes darting from his face to whoever was coming up behind him.
"Did you see the basket I got? It was so intense because all of the guys from the other team were like ganging up on me and honestly I kinda rushed to throw the ball and it actually got in."
Y/N's mouth dropped down in shock," Dang, that's some real talent. But I'm sorry, I didn't get to see it. I... missed like the whole game."
"Wait then why are you here?"
Y/N leaned down to whisper," I'm actually going to ask Hanbin to homecoming."
Matthew's gasp came out louder than Y/N expected, his hands clasping down together with hers. "Dude no way!" He quickly pushed her into his arms and wrapped her into a hug as he swung their bodies left to right," I'm so proud of you. It's going to be great. I can't wait for you guys to-"
Y/N quickly pushed Matthew off when she opened her eyes and found Hanbin standing at the entrance, only a few feet away from them. He was already focused in the position the two were in, his eyes wide. When he finally snapped out of it, the emotions ran dry from his face as he cleared his throat.
"By all means, do not let me interrupt."
"Crap." Y/N and Matthew mumbled underneath their breaths as Hanbin began to storm off in the direction of the parking lot.
Without bidding a goodbye to Matthew, Y/N ran after the boy. His long legs benefitting him as whenever she thought she was caught up to him, she wasn't.
"Hanbin!" She yelled, her voice cracking as she never really spoke that loud unless she really needed to.
He stopped in his steps but continuing on.
Groaning out of frustration, she quickly ran again to grab his arm and made him face her. "Hanbin, please."
"No!" He threw her hand of his arm," You didn't text me back all night. And then I see you with Matthew. Y/N, you could've just told me what you wanted and spared me the shock because I'm already heartbroken as is."
Not finding the right words to say in the heat of the moment, Y/N pulled him in the direction of the soccer field.
Hanbin didn't resist but questions spurred out every second, telling her to say something or asking where she was taking him.
As they reached closer to the tree, she couldn't find which one it was as she couldn't seem to find the decorations that Yunjin and her rushed to do in 10 minutes. Curses sprang from her mouth when she finally found the sign. Only the sign. That wrote out Wanna Dance? in Zhanghao's chicken writing.
She immediately dropped Hanbin's hand, looking at the bare trees that no longer had his favorite colored balloons tied to them. And the lights that were scattered throughout the grass with the flowers all over the place. It looked like a tornado had blew through this place.
This was suppose to be perfect.
But it was all ruined because they didn't read the wind advisory warnings or tie down everything tight enough so that it would stay.
Tears quickly brimmed her eyes, turning back to look at Hanbin who still hadn't said anything or gave any type of reaction which worried her more.
"Binnie... I swear there was so much more. I wouldn't... I wouldn't do something as basic as this. I had everything planned and it was so pretty when I finished setting it up with Yunjin." The salty tears ran down to her mouth, causing her to involuntarily bring her hand up to rub at her eyes. Between sobs, she whispered underneath her breath," I had it all planned. I wanted it to be perfect for you because you've done so much me and I love you so much. I wanted to prove to show you that I love you just as much, if not more, as you do."
She kept rambling on and on how everything was ruined.
She would've jolted if not for the fact that his warm touch was comforting on her skin. His hands pulling her arms down so that her hands were off his face.
"Binnie... I'm so sorry. I understand if you don't want to get-"
Lips halted her mid-apology. Hanbin's cupping her cheek as he moved his lips against hers. He pushed in harder, encouraging her to join him which she did. Her arms wrapped around his neck, eyes fluttering close as their lips fought eagerly against each other.
"Don't finish that sentence." His lips connecting against hers before he pulled away to catch his breath," You know I'll always want you. I love you."

You came back to me
Pairing: Jake 'Hangman' Seresin x Y/n 'Haze' Mitchell
Summary: Now you're gone away, and he watched you disappear
Based of the song: Lavender Haze by Taylor Swift
Warnings: Angst, cheating, throwing up, pregnancy test, mention of abortion, cursing, pregnancy
Part 1 / Part 2/ Part 3/ Part 4/ Part 5/ Part 6/ Part 7/ Part 8/ Part 9
Tumblr media
You were packed. Ready to leave the damn state for good now. Bags packed, boxes ready, papers tidied, passport at go and you were ready to go and start again.
You took the decision to leave again but you didn't think twice either, you couldn't stand the thought of staying around any longer.
You were pregnant again, once again with his child and once again you were gonna disappear into thin air. This time it's not the same story though, this time you sent Andrea a letter from you to Jake once you're going to be gone already, this time you wanted to tell him about his child and tell him that Andrea will tell him about the decisions she'll make in the future but the thought of having to say it to him gave you the creeps.
You sit on the bed of your childhood room as your dad enters and smiles at your sitting form. He walks over to you, slowly and carefully sitting down beside you pulling you into a hug. He pulls you into his chest, just like he used to when you were a little girl and then he tells you, "God, I know you don't know what to do but just know, I'm always on your side, okay, kiddo?" You nod and take a deep breath as the two of you get up and he says.
As the two of you stand up you pull into a hug again. Maverick understands that his doings in life caused him to you not having a father figure and that your mother abandoning you as a baby proves you don't have a mother either.
He wasn't too proud about you always disappearing but surely he did the same to you. You must've caught it on from him, since he was the exact same when he was your age, he was always up and about and never fully around.
But that didn't mean he wasn't an amazing father. He was that. He was patient, understanding and he gave you freedom and space to develop and that's all you needed.
"Let's go before you're late."
-----
You see Andrea is not an athletic person and the last thing that she definitely isn't is a runner. She hates running, her legs were short, she easily got out of breath and she just wasn't good at it but when I tell you that the woman sprinted to find Jake that's exactly what she did.
She looked everywhere and the last place he could be is the break room. He had to be there, that's the only place that's left and she was going to find him.
"Seresin!" She shouted down the halls while running as fast as she could through her workplace halls as her voice echoed down the narrow ways. "Hangman!" She screamed so that her shy voice was bouncing off every possible corner of this building.
Once she spotted him she called out his name one last time and he walked over to her quite annoys and confused, "What do you want?" He didn't care about what she truly wanted. She told him to stay away and now she's been hunting him down, this all doesn't make sense.
"I know we hate each other but listen to me Bagman. Haze is leaving again and this time for bloody good and once again the cycle repeats but this time you have to go after her."
That was the thing that Jake never did about you. He never came and stopped you or went after you, he always just stayed in the bleachers. The point is he would go after you but you didn't want to see him so why would he in the first place.
"Why would I go anyway, she doesn't want to see me anymore." That was true, you didn't want to see him because once you thought your love was getting into something bigger, a bit after you began to feel a sense that you were betrayed. He was the reason behind this situation, this time going so he has to fix it.
"Because she's going to have your child, dumbass, so don't repeat the same mistake that brought you into this position."
-------
You were just past security, you went to one of the available stores at the other side to get a refreshing drink and something to read. Your gate was number nine and your flight was in around an hour so you had plenty of time for everything.
You pulled out one of the books you are reading but quickly put it down, you weren't in the mood of reading so anything you would've read would be torture.
You put the book back into your bag, closing it after you do so and pull out your phone. You were getting deployed to Poland. In Powidz, you Americans have a navy base which you were getting sent to.
You looked up the file about your new station on your phone and began to read through it, it didn't seem so bad, it was a pretty decent looking base and your position was well decided.
You just couldn't comprehend to yourself that this time going, your leaving to another continent, your brain just didn't comprehend that well enough. You didn't want to leave again but you were scared. Absolutely terrified. You never ran so far or crossed so many lines.
You didn't want to do it, you didn't want to head so far but it was for the best. You wanted to stay in San Diego but the thought of having to stand Jake like this killed you so your best thing to do was leave.
You broke his heart before and now you broke his again but he broke yours. He's moved on, fully this time and you were moving to another place, there was nothing left of it, your relationship was done.
You've taken a paracetamol and some anti-travel sickness pills and chugged some more water to ease you off. You've been feeling lightheaded and sick again. You really needed to check in with a doctor but you'll book it once your in Poland, a bit more settled.
Your flight was nearly here so you started to gather up. You shoved your phone in your pocket, books in your bag, put the water in the side pouch, put in the antibiotics in your carry on and then got up from your chair. You were heading towards gate nine which was quite close to where you are situated now.
You walked with a slow pace, down the long corridor, towards the gate. Your gate closes in around twenty minutes so they started checking people's passports and tickets so they could board. You slipped into the line and just started scrolling through your phone on your work chat. But you looked at the unread messages. There were several messages from Bradley and Nat, some obviously from Jake and then your phone as blowing up from the daggers.
You finally decided to get the courage and read some messages from Jake. Not to be surprised most of them were apologies and him trying to earn your forgiveness and the previous where him begging you to please come home, but you didn't.
You wonder if Javy told him about that he caught you while you were getting essentials out of his apartment. You doubt he did, just like when he barely let you into the house seven years ago. Javy did have the balls to tell Jake something that would hurt him.
"Y/N!" Someone called your voice from another side but the accent was fairly familiar but who hear would know you, who here would be calling out your name. "Y/N!" And that's when you recognised the voice of the strongly built, blonde sun kissed hair and the fresh green coral eyes.
You didn't see him and hope you recognised the voice wrong, he couldn't be here, not now, not ever. You took a deep breath and shook your head lightly, you've just misheard yourself, that's all it was, a mishearing. You keep your thoughts straight and don't look back to only lift your head to see the cowboy who broke your heart.
"Y/n, please." You've had enough of these pleadings, he broke you and now he wants you to listen, over what. "What do you want, Seresin?" Each word in that sentence was tough and cold. You didn't let emotion into your sentences, you wanted him to suffer guilt.
"For you to listen me out." With that he drags you out of the line and pulls you to the side, and since your weaker it caused no oppose. "Jake what are you doing here?" You had no clue how he got here or what hin plan was but all you could at least do is listen.
"I'm not letting you go this time, Haze. I made you a promise that I'd never let you leave the same way as before and I'm keeping it."
You didn't understand why this was coming from him, and what he truly wanted. He was being unclear, sending very mixed signals. At the hard deck he clearly presented that he doesn't need you and now he shows that he wants you to stay. "Jake stop."
"No, I'm not going to stop. How I acted was stupid, arrogant and that's not how I want to be to you. Haze, I love you."
He still loves you, he actually still has feelings for you. You've been telling yourself that all feelings were doomed and that he doesn't care anymore. You had a mindset that he was over you and wanted nothing to do with you but clearly senses have proved you wrong.
"Don't say anything, angel, nothing yet just listen. I love you so damn much that fifteen minutes ago I bought a overly expensive ticket to a plane I knew I wasn't going on. I only did that to get you, and stop you because I'm never again letting the only person I ever loved go."
That brought tears to your eyes and quite shock. You forgot Jake had to make his way through security meaning he had to have a boarding pass which meant he must've spent hundreds. He ran here only to tell you he loved you and try to stop you from going and here he was.
"Y/n, you've been there for me always, and your the first person I knew how to love and understand. You're the only reason I'm standing, angel, my heart beats for you. I know this is quick and soon but I wanted to do this for a long time and this has never left my suit."
He ran straight from work, causing him to be in his flight suit as he digs through a top pocket where his patch is stuck on. He takes out a red box and holds your hands together as he lowers himself upon one knee, "Y/N 'Haze' Mitchell, will you marry me?"
Jake has just proposed.
the end..

Day 4 of Via’s Taycember
pairing: jude bellingham x reader
wc: 815
cw: references to sex, mention of death, kissing, arguments
Gleaming, twinkling eyes like sinking ships on waters so inviting, I almost jump in
Seldom is one ever gifted the choice of manner of death. Yet, if you were ever the lucky recipient, you would drown yourself in the depthless, ever-loving eyes of Jude Bellingham.
But I don't like a gold rush, gold rush. I don't like anticipating my face in a red flush. I don't like that anyone would die to feel your touch. Everybody wants you, everybody wonders what it would be like to love you.
It seemed, however, that you weren’t the only one to dream of such a desire. It felt as if every corner in the real world and online was filled with girls desperate for even a single second of eye contact, of the off-chance that if Jude ever left you, he’d choose one of them instead.
You’d struck gold, yet struggled to keep your anger in check every time a girl got too close and touchy with Jude, not trying to be the ruins in his sea of gold. You knew the wishes exchanged between girls, wondering what it would be like to truly have Jude love them, and how they could love Jude. Better than you could, anyway.
Walk past, quick brush. I don't like slow motion double vision in rose blush. I don't like that falling feels like flying 'til the bone crush.
Though it appeared that Jude knew exactly how you felt. Every time you were swarmed by a mob of girls, he always kept you close to him, a reassuring brush of his fingers or a kiss to keep you grounded. He knew what you needed in times like this, how to hold you in his arms or speak the words you needed from him. Take off the rose-coloured glasses, and everything was still the same.
Nightmares of falling away from him, or the daylight’s mirages of your relationship crumbling felt as if your heart was cast away in the skies until your feared reality of him crushing your heart out finally ground it. But the only thing he ever grounded was your mind, his love never faltering.
What must it be like to grow up that beautiful? With your hair falling into place like dominos
You ask him, wondering how such a pure soul only matured, retaining its ability to know how to love whomever its heart chose. You knew of so many women who claimed they were loved by their men, yet just a singular glimpse into their purported perfect porcelain lives uncovered a love so loveless, no arms to hold them as they shed their tears of sorrow, no volitional surprises of laundry done or dinner cooked.
Yet despite all the attention, it was you Jude kissed after every winning match, flushed from the joy and love of scoring goals and having you witness them from the closest of bleachers. He’d watch your hair fall back into place after tousling it with his hands as he pulled you in for a celebratory kiss. How perfect were you, for him? If only you could see how you’d also grown up a loving soul.
I see me padding 'cross your wooden floors with my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door
After a night spent loving every part of you, leaving bruising lovebites down your collarbone and on your inner thighs, you’d cross his floors to clean yourself up as he brought the snacks. Enough times where you could picture such a scene with your Eagles t-shirt waiting on the door handle to be worn in bed, lying on top of him after another horrid day.
At dinner parties I call you out on your contrarian shit
His strong opinions when it came to what he was passionate about were enough to warrant initiating an argument at dinner with your families. Even the simplest of debates over football legends and loyalties would lead to his contrarian arguments. You had to be quick to recognize when one was about to occur, and quickly chastise him before things could get too out of hand and risk a ruined night.
My mind turns your life into folklore, I can't dare to dream about you anymore
Sometimes the fantasies of a peaceful life filled with love grew to consume you in such a way that you couldn't bear the reality of your relationship. You slowly felt yourself pulling away, trying in vain to assuage such feelings in your dreams and in your reality.
It wasn’t meant to harm, but you needed to understand what you really wanted, you supposed. Not spend your life encircling someone, being hidden in the thousands of others in Jude’s orbit.
At dinner parties won't call you out on your contrarian shit
It didn't seem necessary anymore, to spend time trying to quiet Jude. He deserved to be able to speak his mind as a celebrated footballer himself, he deserved to free himself from the constraints of politeness and conformity. Perhaps he was the one the otters should listen to, take in his words and experience, rather than make him a fool for speaking even the most intelligent of words.
And the coastal town we never found will never see a love as pure as it, 'cause it fades into the gray of my day old tea
You and Jude had always planned a little getaway to the Irish shores, to watch the waves crash against the rocky cliffs as you two walk down the coastlines hand-in-hand, free to ramble about whatever as you let go of your worries and duties for once.
As you gaze into your day-old Earl Grey tea, you let yourself picture what could have been. If you had let go of your inner turmoil and let Jude in. You once held his loving brown eyes, deeper than the ocean waters, in yours, grievings cast away into a darkness, but it was the one you chose to follow, filled with regret.
'Cause it will never be gleaming, twinkling eyes like sinking ships on waters so inviting, I almost jump in

“Why'd I have to break what I love so much? It's on your face, don't walk away.”
Kayson x Reader
Part two of “I Don’t Smoke”
Tumblr media
Four days, you counted. Four days without reading his messages, listening to his voice, and having his affection. With those days, every part of you yearns for him.
You understood why you haven’t talked after what happened. Whenever you look back, you were faced with guilt and shame for inflicting pain on him. His face, his voice, and his expression filled with ache continues to haunt you. You wish you could take the words back and speak to him kindly instead, but what is done is done; all you can do is face the music.
Breezing through your to-do lists and reviewing the topics, you were able to finish
everything with plenty of time to spare. It wasn’t a surprise, knowing how studious and perfectionist you are. But now that you have time to take a break, you don't have the guts to relax; especially when you pushed away the person that you wanted to spend time with.
During those, you tried to plan your apology. Writing it on a paper, practicing on the mirror, and reciting it alone; you were desperate to say the least. You already broke his heart by pouring your frustrations at him, the last thing that you wanted was fucking things up further by giving him a half-assed apology. After what happened, Kayson deserves better, so you’ll do anything to be that.
Monday came and so is your opportunity to patch things up. Having a schedule with Mr. Taylor as his student assistant the same day he has practice gives you a chance to talk to him. You weren't confident on how things may unfold, but you held on to that hope that the probability will be in your favor.
Sitting on the bleachers, you watched them on the sideline as the team practiced. You wanted to admire how they improved, but all you could focus on was Kayson– who hasn't glanced at you since you came. Your heart broke a little but you expected it. The tension between you two was still palpable, you were anxious if it’s all in your head or he could feel it too. Your eyes fixated at him, filled with longing and guilt
“[name], I need you to run some papers for the student development office. Tell them that they need to sign the copy of approval and give me a soft and hard copy.” Mr. Taylor, handed you an envelope. You immediately nodded, though upset you won’t be able to watch Kayson's practice and wait for him, you just assured yourself that you’ll be quick.
With all your might, you ran back towards the court. After long lines at the office due to their preparations for the finals, you took more time than expected. As you finally reached the court, you were disappointed as you were met with silence. The place was now empty, absent of players and their belongings.
A sigh escaped your lips as you dragged yourself towards Mr. Taylor’s office. “Sir, this is the hard copy, they said that they’ll just email you the other one.” He accepted the envelope with a nod. You looked around his office, “I can see that the court was empty, Sir.” You commented, wondering where they’ve been– where Kayson has been under the guise of small talk.
“Well, we went for a few rounds and I dismissed them. Don’t want them to just focus on volleyball while finals are coming up. Also, thank you for helping me with the paper. I know everyone’s busy and offices are bombarded, but you still managed to do it. Get some rest, you deserve it.” Mr. Taylor smiled at you. You nodded, muttering a small ‘thank you’ before leaving his office.
You were disappointed that you’re not able to reach him, but at the same time you promised yourself to not let this moment pass. So with shaky hands, you messaged him: "Hey, can we meet after class? At the court?" Pressing send, you wished for his response– and you wished it was a ‘yes’.
As you’re walking to your class, your notification rang; it was from him. You were scared to open it– scared of his rejection. So taking a deep breath, you read his message: “Sure, I’ll see you.”  Finally, a sigh of relief escaped your lips. You head down to your class with a smile, at least, for now, there’s hope.

You sat at the bleachers patiently, waiting for his arrival. Millions of thoughts running through your mind: ‘Is he still angry?’ ‘What if there’s no other chance?’ ‘Will he forgive me?’ Taking deep breaths, you tried to calm yourself down from those thoughts. The reminder that his emotions, or yours, was not truly what the person is. Standing up, you paced back and forth, trying to ground yourself.
“[name]?” You stopped your tracks and turned to him, your heart felt as if it’s beating out of its cage as you faced him.
“Hey,” A small smile plastered on your face as he finally arrived. It’s been days since you last heard him, and listening to him just now seemed surreal.
The court was empty with just the two of you as you both sat down beside each other, still keeping a small distance. Awkward silence filled the room as both of you did not dare to speak.
“How have you been?” Kayson broke the silence.
“Just the same.” You answered. You didn’t want to lie. After what happened, you went back to the same old you– the workaholic, perfectionist, overworking you. Schoolworks has been your way to drown all the negative thoughts from your parents and yourself, it was a way for you to take a break from your problems. It was unhealthy, but at least it gets the job done.
“You?”
“You know, doing the same old me.” Kayson answered, giving you a small smile.
You tapped your fingers on the bench, a nervous habit of yours that won't go away anytime soon. "So... uh." You cleared your throat, trying to fill the awkward silence that was becoming too painful to your liking. There's this guilt in your heart facing the man that you struck down when all he wanted was for you to soar. He was your cheerleader– your number one supporter, yet you had treated him with such anger.
"About what happened..." He looked at you and your heart almost leaped out of your chest. May it be out of admiration or nervousness, but one thing's for sure: you truly missed it.
“I’d like to apologize for what I did to you and for what happened. That night I was too frustrated at my work and myself that I took it out on you. It was unprovoked and unnecessary, especially when all you want is for me to take a break. And you’re right–” This was the part you never accounted for. Before this, you have prepared everything, from your stance to tone; but you never anticipated that you’d break in front of him. For someone who prides themselves for being put together, you sure are a mess when it comes to Kayson.
Looking away, you cleared your throat as you tried to compose yourself. . “I just think there's no excuse for what I did to you.” Your voice cracked as tears began to fall slowly.
You didn’t dare to look at him once more, fearing that it would break your heart further. For someone who prides themselves for being put together, you sure are a mess in front of him. You can't help it, he brings out a different kind of vulnerability that can only come out around him. God knows what power he has over you.
You looked up at the ceiling, trying to stop tears from coming. Then you finally looked him in the eyes again, “I’m so sorry, Kayson. It’s my fault. I understand if you’re leaving me after this, but please don’t.” All your efforts concealing your emotions was futile as you completely broke down in front of him.
Kayson’s eyes were filled with concern as he pulled you close, “Hey, shh…” He gently rubbed your back, his touch was soft and caring, “I won’t leave you, please don’t cry. It hurts me to see you cry.” You nodded, wiping your tears away and pulling from him so you could look at his face.
“I get it, okay? You were stressed and I kept pushing. I was just in the right place at the wrong time.” He gently wiped your tears.
“Still! I shouldn’t have done it. I could’ve been polite, but I wasn’t. I made you cry.” You insisted.
“I-I didn’t cry. I mean– I did, but just almost… you know.” Kayson’s cheeks turn red at the mention of his reaction.
You nodded at his excuse, finally having the courage, you held his hand. “I’m really sorry, Kayson. I promise to be better.” Kayson squeezed your hand in an assuring manner, you smiled gently at his gesture.
“It’s okay. I just worry about you too much sometimes you know.”
You pulled him in for a hug, nuzzling on his shoulder as you drowned in him. Kayson’s grip on you was tight, burying his face on your shoulder. The days that you longed for each other was dreadful, and the fact that both of you could share a moment like this felt like a dream came true.
“I missed you.” Kayson spoke gently, voice filled with yearning and love.
“I missed you too.” You gently caressed his cheek.
“May I… kiss you?” You nodded. He pulled you close, sighing as your lips touched. Hands wrapped around his neck, while his was on your waist. It was passionate, yet tender. The way he felt against your lips was like heaven. Your breath quickened as he pulled you closer, lips moving in a sensual manner.
Kayson gave your lips a small peck before pulling away. “You really missed me, huh?” He teased.
“I did, I really did.” The heavy weight from your chest faded, it was now filled with warmth knowing that you still have him by your side. No word could describe how much you cherished and appreciated him, but you’ll do anything to convey it. A soft smile was on your face as you held his hand once again, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
