Overall, good episode! Didn’t feel too short or long.

Really loved the world design of Pantora and honestly wouldn’t mind seeing more of it later in the show.

Digging seeing Hunter go “dad mode” and protect Omega! Also Echo’s new civilian outfit was hot, I will add on and say he is *priceless*. Animation also felt really tight in this ep.

Wrecker they did you dirty my guy. The way you just got tossed like that was foul. They’re giving you so much head trauma lately and for what.

Star Wars, The Dad Batch: Cornered (1x04)

Comments: So The Dad Batch is low on supplies and needs to make a stop to scramble their ship’s code (or whatever). They land on Pantora of all places, so at least we’re still recycling planets from TCW. Gotta keep that Star Wars Universe as small as possible, Disney. Nice ‘n tiny. Keep going back to the same three planets.

They happen to land in the single docking bay whose manager has Fennec on speed dial, who happens to be hunting TDB. More specifically, Fennec is looking for Omega, who she conveniently brings up on a holopad so the audience is clear about what’s happening.

Hunter, Echo, and Omega go off on a supply run while Tech and Wrecker take apart the ship in order to scramble their ship’s code (or whatever). The code is embedded in hardware? As an engineer, I’m just gonna skip over this part and paraphrase a reader’s previous comment: “I dunno, Star Wars tech be wack yo” (or something to this effect).

Anyways, Hunter (who you know is Hunter because he literally never takes off his headband or face paint) tries to sell an explosive to a merchant who doesn’t want it, so instead Hunter sells Echo. Just straight-up sells a human being like a used television set.

At some point, Hunter accidentally bumps into one of those goat-like aliens and he goes “Hey! Wa-wa-wa-waaaatch it!” like a goat. I’m unsure if this is supposed to actually be funny, or if it’s just a stock “this place is crowded” trope in Disney Wars because it’s happened three times now (Resistance, Rebels, and now in TBB).

Omega goes and gets herself lost and gets picked up by Fennec of all people (keep that universe super tiny) while Hunter forgets how to track people and frantically runs around the city looking for his lost child. He finds her, a fight ensues *yadda yadda* then, aww crap... Omega can’t do a pull up. Dan, it’s your favorite!

Skipping over the mother trucking chase scene (they’re the worst), Hunter escapes with Omega and Fennec limps home. TDB recognizes that Fennec is a bounty hunter and plans on finding out who hired her. But (1) does TBB know what the inhibitor chips are and will they ever ask Tech or Omega more about them? (2) The audience knows who Fennec is, but TBB does not...

This is getting into a major flaw with the show: the main characters are in the dark and trying to unravel some mystery, but the audience already knows the answers to that mystery. This hasn’t quite made the main characters seem dumb and/or incompetent yet, but it’s not exactly good storytelling.

I’m still watching the next episode though. Gotta see where this is going...

Next up: Tatooine and Dagobah? Yavin IV? Alderaan!?

Day 2: Favorite Dynamic

I think Omega has a great and distinct relationship with each of the batchers, but that with Wrecker warms my heart the most. These two have had a special connection from the go, starting at the fight in the messhall in Kamino. From then on, they became a chaotic duo and I love it. Wrecker turned into the big brother/fun uncle that Omega always wanted and needed, while she became the source of comfort and understanding that I suspect Wrecker needed.
