i really thought that they were going to have this arc focus on df redemption because of how lame and unsatisfactory the answer of "oh sorry we cant let them in because uhmm they did something mean generations ago or something and theyre already dead so it doesnt matter" was (esp after all the build up of seeing the df residents show that they CAN be good and help the protags and whatnot) and i really wish they would've gone that route. tbh i think it would've been cool if one of the perspectives was from a starclan/df cat it would've been a breath of fresh air. but instead we got flamepaw 😒
i know exactly what you mean but my mind immediately went that there's a correlation between nightheart existing and the df cats being told they can't go to starclan

I think that a problem the warriors fandom runs into a lot is confusing a character's (especially a narrator's) subjective interpretation of what's happening for an objective telling that we'd get from a voice-of-god omniscient narrator.
for example, nightheart feels (in early asc at least) like sparkpelt left him behind. that she abandoned him, even. that's his feelings, and as a kid (then) who grew up in basically a civil war he's allowed to feel negatively about what's happened in his life.
but what happened was she was exiled (the impostor's fault) and he chose not to follow her (his own choice) the way finchpaw did. I think that reading nightheart as someone caught in this more complex situation rather than the objective wronged party in a black and white situation like an uncaring mother leaving her kid behind makes him more interesting!
and, unfortunately, pointing this out gets misinterpreted as negativity towards nightheart as a character rather than a criticism of the story team.

Even if you're sitting there alone
'Cause just like icarus ascending
Never intending to look back
Nature's law and your tragic flaw
~Icarus, Ani DiFranco
Requested by @doritopaw101 but I accidentally deleted the ask. Anyways Squilf facing the sun as she’s thrown off the rocks by Brashstar [Ashfur when he took Bramblestar’s body in tbc].
(Squirrelflight has been thrown by Brashstar and is facing up, claws reached out as she’s illuminated by the bright sun above. Five leaves twirl around her on the left and the shadow of Brashstar is at the bottom right standing on highledge. Squirrelflight is a fluffy red cat with large green eyes and a white paw. Light wing tufts are on her back but the left one is black like her tail and other paws. A large scar is across her belly like a bramble tendril along with her left ear being ripped at the edge. Under her is Thunderclan’s lake camp in the gorge with sand underneath her, the rocks going up to highledge and grass. The faint signature “Nightly-Ruse 2023” is over on the right side of her. End ID)

squilfstar potential lives:
feathertail: courage in the most difficult moments
shrewpaw: remembering your youth
juniperkit and dandelionkit: healing from the past
yellowfang: resilience (given as an apology)
honeyleaf (last ancient skyclan deputy): defending what's right, gratitude from all (for her help protecting skyclan)
sandstorm: a mothers love
firestar: compassion
hollyleaf: steadfastness
leafpool: undying loyalty and love
bristlefrost wouldve given her a life too, but,,,yeah,,,
art (or maybe animation?) coming soon (and also writing probably)
(i wrote a fanfic about it!)

still wish shadowsight died instead of bristlefrost. not out of any particular malice towards the character I just think HE was the one most consistently tangled up with the imposter.
he was his first target, and continued to be throughout the arc. rootspring had the brambleghost subplot for a bit; and bristle HAD been pretty involved through the imposter manipulation until root needed a reciprocating girlfriend.
not saying it's impossible for bristle to sacrifice herself instead, but the character we got in end...well it felt like she didn't earn the grand finale y'know?
also with shadow gone we wouldn't get sadboy angst over a dead lover or whatever (I have no idea how prevalent rootsprings grief has been in asc btw. if at all.)

After Ashfur is dealt with, Shadowsight becomes the mediator of the dark forest.( Like how Juniper claw became the protector of the tunnel.)
The dark forest cats avoid him like the plague, his power of sight is a repellent (didnt work before because of Ashfur). Except for the friendly ones like Snowtuft and Juniperclaw, who can hang out with him. There is resentment from the evil dark forest cats about this...
He comes there when there is a problem or to guide other cats.
And this gives him a lot of respect in the clans because no one else can do that, but also people are scared/disgusted of him because of this connection to the dark forest.

Squirrelflight: I need you to wound me so we can make bramblestar think I'm dead
Jayfeather: What the fuck. That's preposterous. We're healers. I'm absolutely not doing that
Mothwing: hey girl say less

shadowsight and breezepelt meeting unexpectedly at a gathering. shadowsight and breezepelt bonding over surviving abuse as young apprentices. shadowsight and breezepelt realizing they were both the black sheep of their clans. shadowsight and breezepelt both being tricked into furthering the dark forest’s goals.
shadowsight and breezepelt becoming like brothers and always sitting next to each other at gatherings (til shadow has to go sit with the medics)
breezepelt as the big brother figure to this weird little healer guy
shadowsight as the little sibling to this formerly murderous windclan warrior
