From the weaponry asks:
rapier: which character is the most stylish? (Of the Fangthane lot. We all know Thazar would win otherwise)
penknife: which of your characters is best at keeping secrets?
Optional, because I can't remember if anyone dies on-screen: shotgun: if characters die in the story, who has the most dramatic death?
Thnk you for the asks hen. Questions are from the ask game found here
rapier: which character is the most stylish? (Of the Fangthane lot. We all know Thazar would win otherwise)
Oh, yeah Thazaar would totally win if there wasn't a caveat (though tbf, I could also go with Frenchie or even Cece for this this one). However for the Fangthane lot, I might have to give it to Merri's uncle Ufgi (the one who made her armour before we went toddling off to Khull the second time). He's one of the few dwarves I can think of that likes to "dress up" a bit and likes adding little flourishes to both his work and the things he wears (including adding odds and ends to his braids in his beard for special occassions). I figured he was the type to lean into that given all the inscription he did for Merri's armour, dude went well above and beyond for it.
penknife: which of your characters is best at keeping secrets?
The best one for keeping secrets is actually Thaddeus for the Wizard's Tower lot and Ragnarsson/Vanskleig for Fangthane. Thaddeus is pretty much the only wizard in the tower that isn't prone to gossip and actively dislikes and avoids it it whenever he can. Because he's also the least sociable of the lot (and that's saying a lot for the wizard's tower since they're all fairly antisocial aside from Dwena). Ragnarsson, being High Priest, has to keep a lot of stuff confidential for clergy, staff and devotees of Moradin as part of his job. Vanskleig is good for this as well for more or less the same reasons.
shotgun: if characters die in the story, who has the most dramatic death?
For fiction set around either completed campaign, we do have Selene (see: To Heal a Broken Soul for the details about that), though I wouldn't really call it dramatic. More sad and traumatic for everyone involved (she did get better, but she did, ultimately, make it to the Waiting Room to have a chat with a god).
Merri's death was pretty dramatic. Arrow right through the heart killing her almost outright from a completely unseen assassin? I'd call that plenty dramatic. And traumatising for everyone else.
The most dramatic though, really does have to go to Llachlan. This is kind of spoiling the backstory for a major plot point in The Ouroboros of Destiny campaign, but I'm pretty sure you want to know the details anyway.
Part of the backstory involves Llachlan being a typical teenager and deciding that the best way to deal with his supposed abandonment by his parents is to run away from home (with a great deal of "encouragement" from that shadowy voice he heard). He winds up getting involved with some filthy, rotten cultists (as you do in these situations), who are very interested indeed to learn who he is.
Fast forward about five years and the Cult of the Black Lady is setting up a massive ritual to bring said patron Demon Prince into the Material Plane. The final sacrifice that's needed to kickstart the magic needs to be someone blood related. Funnily enough, Llachlan fits the description perfectly. By this point, Llachlan's been trying to back out and word has finally got back to mum of his whereabouts. She gets a whole damn army to try and get him home, but turns up just a moment too late to stop the cultists committing that final sacrifice. The ritual does get stopped (don't ask how I'm still working those details out, but it probably involves Meredith's massive explosion of grief-stricken Divine Retribution. Girl's around 600-odd years old by now and has been Archlector of Fangthane for about 300 years by that point.)
As to why Llachlan's around by the time of the start of the campaign which takes place around 250-300 years later... well... that's another matter entirely.

I did read the naginata meta, but I don't see why this means that she can beat up the main character guys (who are very strong) in comedic arcs and struggles with the bad guys (even the minor ones) in serious arcs. I don't think she's written consistently in that way.
bad guys in serious arcs huh. Okay I'll review
Lesson 1 - first chapter birthing pains? tbf she did punch one of the loansharks but there were too many for her and also shinpachi could n't do a thing yet.. also like she was scared too.
Yagyuu - ...she wasnt captured and she didnt want to leave
4 Devas - she beat them up
Ryugujou - she allowed herself to be led to the villain though. THat was the only way she could face off with Otohime and find an answer to Katsura and Gintoki's ageing problem. And also so what if she's ready to die anyway. She didn't even care about dying and still spat at the captor. That's gutsy imo and shows a different kind of mental strength.
Farewell Shinsengumi - she was up against the shogun and the commander in chief though? like..would you as a commoner defy that kind of arrest after insulting the SHOGUN? anything she'd do against them would hurt the cabaret girls too. Even Gintoki let himself be captured after beating up the Shogun, ready to die for both otae and hijikaa. And she also stared the shogun down herself, not afraid to die. LIke I said she's pretty nuts for having the balls to do that. Where's the weakness in staring down a captor at the face of death?
Silver Soul Arc - Got captured at the start but didnt move a muscle coz she was watching the yorozuya office get destroyed. Being captured was the least of her priorities when the building that she'd been faithfully watching over for weeks was being obliterated into dust. Also she threw off the captor later when Yorozuya appeared. So it checks out.
Siege of Kabukichou - she wasnt even paying attention at her surroundings and were more focused on letting the girls escape. How would she have known that an amanto would pull her by the hair when she was still making sure her friends got through the window? Also as a naginata/polearm user, the moment an opponent gets past one's blade and into striking range, they're toast.
Same with the Shinra capture too. She wasnt paying attention of their backs while listening to Tsukuyo's feminist speech. The real question is that why wasn't anyone on the lookout anyway? The Shinra already pegged her as the leader and was able to approach her stealthily (their specialty btw) and subdue. I mean technically there's no way she could escape that, weapon or not, special judo techniques or not. She was captured from behind while standing at the edge of a roof oi.
Final Arc - opening salvo. She held her own though?? That was proper use of her polearm. The fact that she could block two Amanto bigger than her is already impressive. I mean she did slice down the other opponents before those two. And like I said, she and shinpachi helped each other in the upper floors. It just wasn't drawn nor animated.
comedy arcs
about her being able to hurt the mcs... i don't remember any of them capturing her from behind (with the intent to kill) like the rest of supposed bad guys. IN comedy arcs where she beats them up.. she's aware and alert and is usually the one who's on attack/defensive offense. (esp when she punishes gintoki or kondou or knocks over madao).
Also I think Gintoki is just letting her do with him as he please. So does Kondou, Hijikata, Madao. I'm open to that interpretation too. These guys won't hit woman even if it's a gorilla like Otae.
also maybe we're both fools for expecting logic in gintama of all things. im trying to not get caught in that trap myself. An example that was recently brought up was her surviving the fall in Roach Motel and yet possibly dying when she was pushed off the roof in SSA.
I do not deny that she is weak in some aspects. She isn't trained militia. She isn't used to battle. She's a cabaret girl. She gave up her training for work, she let a stampede of girls knock her over in dekobokko, she used kagura to clear up the line for valentines, etc. etc. She's multifaceted. She uses her strength sometimes and also she doesn't and instead screams for help. Sometimes she's better at mindgames and spitting at captors and sometimes she's an airhead boke with a singular focus that gets to the point of her being captured. It's consistent coz it happens multiple times in the course of 704 chapters and a movie. I'm fine with that.
:D
