My unpopular TUA opinion:

1. I genuinely like Viktor as a character but I have a hard time watching his scene lmao. I root for him in season 1 but I skipped a lot of his scenes with Leonard because their relationship makes me uncomfortable and I really want to stab Leonard in the eyes every time he shows up on screen. In season 2 I found his story low-key boring and in season 3 — it's hard to watch the thing with Harlan. I actually agree with Allison on her feelings for Harlan.

2. Sissy and Viktor's relationship is cute... But I'm not a fan of it. Mainly because of the cheating 😭. I know it's an unhappy marriage and they love each other and the husband is a huge dick but still, the cheating still didn't sit right with me (which is another reason why this particular plot is hard for me to watch). I once watched this drama where the male lead married this villain and sneaked with the female lead behind her back and i felt so bad for the villain even though I hate her gut lmao.

3. Allison's character arc in season 3 is horrible and I hate watching her character digress like that but at the same time I think it is kind of justified in a way. I mean, a girl can only take so much before she pops. But it's kind of frustrating that it's OBVIOUS that the whole siblings tried to give her support. Viktor is obvious, Diego took her out to release tension, Luther always looks out for her, and even when she was arguing with Viktor, Five asked Allison if she's okay when she's the one that dropped the not okay words to Viktor. You can't say that the siblings didn't try to be there with her but she still acted selfishly.

4. This is just a minor thing but the way the Sparrow treated Grace will never stop making me feel angry. Like bro, have some respect that is your MOTHER. Or could have been. It's just heartbreaking to see how Grace ended up in the end because we see in season 1 that she could have feelings and the brellies love her but in this timelimes she's being treated like a servant 😭 AND when Diego saw Grace and look so happy and relieved to see her and then Jayme said he's a creep. SHUT UP HE LOVE HIS MOM OKAY.

5. Am I the only one who kind of ship Human Grace with Reggie in season 2? Low-key ship them and it's kind of weird but I like the potential there? And there's chemistry there.

6. Klaus can be annoying sometimes starting from season 2. I LOVE him but sometimes I want to strangle him lmao.

7. Umbrella Ben will always be an innocent precious little cinnamon roll in my heart, but in the show he can be quite horrible lmao. Possessing Klaus without his consent, preaching Klaus with the "Luther would do the same for you" in S1. Like SHUT UP BEN NO HE WON'T.

8. Lila pissed me off so much in season 2 with her relationship with Diego because why was she angry with him? Girl, he did nothing but give you heart eyes, YOU'RE the one that lied to him, betrayed him, and drugged and kidnapped him. SO WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE HE'S THE ONE THE SCREW UP!? "I even introduced you to my mom" GIRL YOU KIDNAPPED HIM. He didn't have a say in that. Stop tripping. And the things she did with Stan, is honestly not okay, wth Lila? (But they do warm up to me in season 3).

9. The romance in the show is not the greatest tbh. I don't actually ship any of the ships in the show (except for Diego and Lila at the end of S3) because they all kind of happen so fast and I felt like as soon as someone gets a love interest, that will be their first priority, their family be damned. And maybe logically this is true (I never experienced love so who am I to know) but I'm here for the family love so to see that happen pissed me off lmao. I understand their actions with their love interest but at the same time GET A GRIP.

This is really going to show my Season 3 bias ngl.

#5. 2.12 "Don't make me twist your arm."/"Please do."

Their chemistry is insane when they're teasing each other downstairs and then they kiss each other so softly once they get upstairs. I'm a sucker for a good soundtrack moment and there's something iconic about having their house literally light up on fire under them while obliviously making out as Fever by Elvis Presley plays in the background. Peak cinema tbh.

#4. 3.04 "Hey, baby. Breathe."/"Welcome home, TK."

We can all agree to have these two can count as one scene, right? they go back to back. The way TK reached for Carlos as soon as he woke up and immediately noticed that Carlos wasn't breathing right even though he just woke up from a coma, is still groggy, and barely has his eyes open? soulmate shit right there. If you haven't watched this without the music. my god. do it now. & then add in how happy they both look as Carlos leads TK into the loft with his hands over his eyes, and then when TK looks around and you can see on his face when he realizes he still gets to have this despite everything? Beautiful.

#3. 3.18 "For the first time in my life, the love that I feel is infinitely more powerful than the fear of losing it."/"A thousand times yes."

I mean can I even say more about the proposal that hasn't already been said? the urgency TK felt that prompted him to wake Carlos up in the middle of the night. His speech to Carlos. All the little touches throughout. The way they both were crying by the end. It was beautiful and it was perfect for them. (the only way it could have been better is if they maybe stopped to turn on a fucking lamp)

#2. 3.08 "Hey, look at me."/"I love you."

This was their first mutual "I love you" shown on screen and while the context was heartbreaking, it was still so so sweet. Carlos being the loving caregiver, kissing TK's forehead, rubbing his knee, wanting to make sure he eats. The way Carlos tells TK to look at him and he does immediately, even though TK has been basically avoiding eye contact with everyone the entire scene will live rent free in mind for all of time, I'm sure.

#1. 3.13 "Do you have any idea how proud of you I am?"/"You're just so sweet."

Can I put the entirety of 3.13 on the list at number one? Because it's my favorite episode for them. It has so many things. It has them being domestic and flirtatious. TK being distracted by Carlos in yoga clothes. It has them fighting a bit, overcoming those obstacles, and communicating. It showed Carlos as a multidimensional character with flaws like jealousy and pettiness, but then growing through it to come to the realization that he can't be everything that TK needs at the end of the day.

But if I absolutely had to pick just one scene from it, I would chose the opening scene. TK sharing with Carlos about his meeting, finding a sponsor, & the realization of not having Gwyn around affecting his mindset. Carlos waiting up with his adorable glasses, reading articles to educate himself, telling TK how proud of him he is. TK calling him sweet and flirting with him. I just-- 🥰🥰

Just curious what you don't like about Cory/Topanga if you feel like talking about it!

hey, i don't mind!

first off i think boy meets world in the context of just a purely heterosexual show makes it age pretty poorly, and that all stems from cory and topanga. i know one of the writers said a while back that the writers room was torn between shory and corpanga, and tbh, rewatching as an adult, that's extremely evident. i'm not gonna make this post all about shory bc that's reductive but i am first and formost a shory girl and a firm believer that cory matthews is a gay man

so let's get into it.

i really really love s1/2 corpanga. idk if it's just bc ben/danielle felt more natural back then or if it's bc they actually allowed cory to be wrong and topanga to be right, but it's just so sweet. one of my all time fav ship moments from the show is the frickin sock basketball scene where they touch hands and he giggles. so adorable! but i think what really makes them suffer after s1 (and kind of s2) is just that they clearly made topanga a normal, kelly kapowski girl-next-door type to make her more "desirable" for the male audience. that could be an entire separate post, but it's so fucking obvious that that's what the change was and it sucks because topanga was great the way she was.

they're not like hatable in season 3 exactly, but the "old married couple haha look how old gross and boring they are" trope when they were legitimately sophomores was just weird? and this is a retrospect thing but i hate how the show just kept retconning shit and pretended they never broke up in season 3, as if a HUGE storyline and one of the most iconic episodes (the happiest place on earth) wasn't about them getting back together? and for me just the concept of the ~universe wanting them to be together~ over and over again is just so fucking lame when they were so toxic. (great video on this here)

they really don't do anything wrong in season 4 either, but a long walk to pittsburgh is honestly so beyond ridiculous LMAO. i know everyone talks about how romantic it is, but i hate it because topanga literally runs away and moves back to philly just for cory. i know they claim it's to finish at john adams too, but i would find that much more believable if they had developed topanga AT ALL outside of cory. we know almost nothing about her home life and they wrote trini out so we never even see any friends of hers! the trend of them fighting and talking down to amy about their love is so fucking stupid too. like you are sixteen. it is fine to love someone and want to be with someone, but amy is right that it's not healthy for them to be as obsessed with each other as they are. like cory literally doesn't know who he is outside of topanga and that's NOT healthy.

oh lordy. s5. i'm not going to get into how much i hate that shawngela (a MUCH happier, more interesting relationship) was reduced to "wanting to be corpanga" in both their intro episode and then fucking gmw, but even the "old married couple" stuff in "chasing angela" at the restaurant is so annoying. "last tango in philly" is one of my fav episodes, but it's the perfect example of how cory can never accept he's wrong. shawn tries to tell him they should stop, and he just tells shawn he knows nothing about relationships and keeps being a dick about topanga and her (obviously gay) friend. but obviously, you're here to hear about how i feel about the cheating. yes, cory cheated and he genuinely liked lauren. for the show to act like he didn't is just gaslighting their audience. and tbh? i think ben and linda cardellini had excellent chemistry (certainly more than he and danielle did at that point . . .) and i think it's completely healthy to date more than one person! it was nice seeing cory be able to open up and bond with someone else, and yes, what he did was cheating. just bc he changed his mind and decided he "couldn't live without topanga" (bless u probably queer writer for what u did w that line :') ) doesn't mean that it didn't happen. topanga had EVERY right to break up with him. it does piss me off that we barely saw topanga's reaction to the breakup when there was a whole ep dedicated to shawn's reaction (and i say that as the #1 shawn stan), but that show hated women lbfr. AND WHY TF WAS IT BAD FOR HER TO KISS JONATHAN JACKSON WHEN SHE AND CORY WERE BROKEN UP????? bc cory can't accept things not going his way and not having control. the "we are a masterpiece" scene makes me so fucking angry omg i cannot

and i mean, bro, the yale shit has been talked about to death, but topanga lawrence going to the same college as straight d-student shawn hunter has got to be the dumbest, most woman-hating shit the show ever did. love can survive long distance if you put the effort in, trust me. (yes i am aware that the show prob didn't want to separate their main couple, but s6 was almost entirely about shawn anyway so????)

then in seasons 6 and 7 we get into the "cory yelling at and publicly humiliating topanga" trend. "undapants" is iconic so i'm not gonna go into that episode (fuck you "take her back to your tornado infested trailer park" line!), but i can name at least seven occasions where cory pressures her into sex. and rider strong is right. it was extremely holier than thou how they constantly made it seemed like corpanga was better than shawngela for not fucking before marriage. like isn't there a line where they call shawngela sluts in s7? the whole honesty bit in "the truth about honesty" (admittedly one of my fav eps) is also just ridiculous bc both of them always get pissed off at the other one for being honest, even in the past. i've seen people get mad at topanga for throwing yale in cory's face but lbr, who didn't see that coming? i guess maybe it's a little weird bc she'd never been resentful about it before, but that's a HUGE thing in their relationship. and yes, it is weird that she's using his razor without his permission but again just the pressuring her to show him her ass is also fucking weird (it's also weird imo that they've been together "their whole lives" but they've only ever kissed, but again, holier than thou bullshit)

one thing i can say about how weak and uninteresting their relationship actually is is that their ENTIRE wedding episode is about shory, bc they are the much more compelling dynamic in cory's life. weirdly enough, i do actually really like cory's vows though?? on a shawn hunter stan note, oblig "that best man speech was bullshit" comment. it's completely normal and healthy to have a best friend outside of your partner? especially when you can't be honest with your partner. god i fucking hate that bullshit. just like how i hate in "seven the hard way/the war" how they portray cory abandoning his best friend/true life partner for topanga AND THEN IN FUCKING GMW THE BAD FUTURE FOR EVERYONE LITERALLY CAME TRUE!!!!!!! omg i will go insane if i think about that for longer than a few seconds.

What do you like about Marie and Jordan individually and what do you like about them as a pair?

For Marie, I just love her so much. First of all, I am always happy to see a black girl lead in any kind of diverse, non-stereotypical, non-sassy-side character role like this.

But I also appreciated how realistic she was. Like, I understood almost every choice she made. I saw people get mad at her at the start for not always doing the altruistic, "right thing", but for most people, self-preservation comes first. She didn't owe those other characters anything (especially after how they treated her) and I loved that she had a back bone and would actually talk back to people. But at her core, she is still a good person despite everything that has happened to her and still chooses not to be corrupted by Vought's influence once she understands the true material cost.

For Jordan, they're just such a nuanced character. One, I always have a soft-spot for the Lancer character archetype. The highly capable, second best, who can never quite out-do the main character (e.i. bakugo, reki (from sk8), Ron from HP (fuck jkr, but no other examples are coming to me atm)), and Jordan is just that. Like, yeah, they were kind of a bitch at the start, but it's so clear that they are secretly a softie and the world and their experiences have forced them to have a tough shell. Also, their powers as an allegory for gender identity, yes, it's on the nose (although, as someone who grew up reading 90s/2000s manga like Ranma 1/2, not that unheard of), but I think the show handled questions of their identity really well.

And finally for Limoreau...

idk where to start. tbh, as someone who has been hyper fixating on characters and ships since high school, I never really have a clear explanation of why I ship the characters I do. I either like it or I don't. But Limoreau is such a pleasant surprise because the chemistry was there from the start, but it felt like one of those queer dynamics that the writers would be too scared to pursue (think Arthur/merlin or Gojo/Geto). I think the fact that our MAIN PAIRING is a queer, interracial couple with no white people, shouldn't be as revolutionary as it is in 2023, but it is! I hope this is a positive direction for on-screen storytelling.

But also everyone loves a classic "enemies to lovers" (yes, I know they're not EtL in the true sense, but I consider Rivals-to-lovers as a subset of EtL, so I'm using it as an umbrella term). I think the reason people like EtL dynamics (Especially in het pairings) is that there is always an underlying respect beneath the "hatred". Like, to see someone as a threat, you have to see them as at least an equal.

It was clear from the start that Marie and Jordan were more alike than different and it was Vought and the corrupt nature of Godolkin pushing them to compete. They're both lonely in different ways, and I love the idea of them finding acceptance and a home with each other (Also all three actors are extremely attractive and have great chemistry, so that never hurts).

Do I wish their relationship had been paced out a bit more? Yes. But that was my issue with all of Gen V. I think the whole show would have benefitted from 12 eps, instead of 8, because development was needed in most areas.

I also just want to note, for all the people saying their relationship "came out of nowhere", I truly feel that if Marie looked like Erin Moriarty and Jordan looked like Chace Crawford, most people would have clocked the romance from the beginning, jus saying...

Summary: You went on vacation to start a new chapter. He was doing the same. Great minds think alike.

Fluff and tension. no smut (for once)

It was your last night in Mexico and you had decided to go to a dance hall. You had avoided it the last five days, worried about being alone. But you convinced yourself that you would be safe and you would regret it if you didn't go. At first, it was awkward, walking to the bar by yourself while you were surrounded by couples and groups making the best of their nights.

The dancefloor was busy with bodies and you longed to join as they switched into bachata. You nursed your drink at the bar watching the couples smiling and dancing. You yearned to be one of them but you weren't confident enough to go out on the dancefloor by yourself.

You ordered another drink and made it half way through that when a man stopped in front of you and offered you his outstretched hand, "Would you like to dance?"

Your eyes trailed up the man's arm and found a tall, dark haired, and handsome man in front of you. He was in a loose linen shirt and jeans. His smile was captivating and his accented voice made the request sound seductive. Your eyes lingered on his hand as you unconsciously sipped your drink.

"I can wait until you finish your drink, hermosa, if you like?" The man said as he took the stool next to you and ordered himself a shot.

"I, yes, thank you. I would love to dance," You finally replied, turning to the attractive man, having decided to take a chance. You downed the last bit of your drink which made him chuckle.

"Cómo te llamas?" The man asked as he offered you his right hand and downed his shot with the left.

"Y/N. You?" You asked as you let him lead you to the dance floor. You tried not to let the nerves get to you.

"Tenoch," He said against your cheek as he pulled you towards him and started to lead you in the dance.

Speaking was difficult with the volume of the music and the sound of the crowd. So instead the two of you moved to the rhythm. He was an enthusiastic partner and you could tell he was an experienced dancer. You let the worries of being looked at or judged disappear. The music moved through you and every touch of his hands on your skin was setting off waves of tingling on your body. You tried not to think about how romantic and sensual bachata was.

At one point he pulled you close, holding your waist with one hand and holding your hand to his chest with another. He leaned towards your ear, "You are a natural. Do you dance often, mujer?"

You tried not to get distracted by how good he smelled, or how solid his body felt against yours. You leaned towards his ear so he could hear your response, "I love dancing but I don't get the chance to very often."

"That's a shame," Tenoch spun you out then pulled you back in with a smile, "A woman like you should be able to dance whenever she wants. The dancefloor is more beautiful with you in it."

The way he was smiling at you was making you weak. It had been so long since you felt attractive. But dancing with this man in the middle of the dancefloor, feeling his hands, hearing his voice, seeing his eyes roam your body, you felt like a goddess. The music grew more seductive and he pulled you flush against him, so close that when he turned you slightly his thigh was flush between your own.

Your foreheads were practically touching as you moved together. There was a light sheen of sweat on your skin that was growing warming with the proximity. Your hand on the back of his neck caressed the short hair and down his shoulder as he pushed you into a new movement and then pulled you close again.

The eye contact was doing something to you. The smile had turned into a smirk and his pupils were dilated. When the song ended he took your hand and led you back to the bar. You were heady with the alcohol from earlier but you offered to buy the two of you another shot.

"No mames, guey. How can I let you buy? I'm buying everything you want tonight, hermosa, just keep dancing with me like that," Tenoch said as he pulled you close to him at the bar. The brazen show of affection was usually not something you allowed but he felt so safe to you.

As you waited for the shots to be poured you looked at him, the lighting at the bar was brighter than the dance floor. There was something oddly familiar about him. You had never met him before, you were sure of that. Your eyes suddenly widened with realization.

The shots were placed on the counter and Tenoch moved one close to you, "Que pasa, chica?"

"Tenoch? You're the actor right?" You asked, not believing your eyes. You were ashamed to say you weren't big on superhero movies but you did remember the internet being rife with discourse over the second Black Panther movie and the introduction of a new character.

"I'm assuming you don't really know my work if it took you so long to realize," Tenoch raised an eyebrow but still had a cheeky smile on his face. He gestured to the shot, "Drink, the alcohol will help with the surprise."

Obediently, you downed the tequila. Coughing a bit as it burned, "Shouldn't you be somewhere with a security detail?"

Tenoch laughed but still pulled you close, "I am not so famous yet. I wanted to feel invisible for awhile. I think I picked the right place and the right woman to do that with."

His eyes were intense. You glanced around as if someone was going to suddenly recognize him and ruin the fun you were having. Tenoch didn't seem to like that you were distracted and lightly grabbed your chin and turned you to him, "Will you keep dancing with me or will you run away?"

The challenge set your heart rate sky rocketing, in a good way. The buzz from the shot and the electricity from his touch was all the confidence you needed. Without answering, you took his hand and pulled him back onto the dancefloor, which made him laugh with delight. You pulled him closer this time, your hands framing his neck and face while his arms came around you to hold your back and waist. The closed position had you nose to nose.

You were intoxicated, not just from the drinks but from his presence. It felt like you danced for hours, flirting and moving together. You didn't pry into who he was and what he was doing there. Tenoch was enjoying your company. Dancing freely and having fun in the dim lights of the dancehall, between couples and lovers. The proximity was getting to the both of you.

Eventually you both tired out enough to sway back and forth slowly on the dancefloor, foreheads resting against each other, out of breath and in a firm embrace. You moved to rest your head against his shoulder and he automatically pulled you closer. The sigh he let out as he enveloped you in his arms sounded like a relief. He ran one hand up and down your back, languidly.

Reluctantly, you pulled yourself out of his arms, meeting his eye you took his hand and led him back to the bar to talk. Once there he offered to buy you another drink but you refused, not wanting to deal with a hangover on your flight the next day.

"Tenoch, tonight has been amazing, but I should really head back to my hotel. I have a flight to catch tomorrow," You said, still holding one of his hands in your own.

Tenoch gave you a soft smile, entwined your fingers, then led you out of the bar. Once on the street he turned to you, "Which hotel? Let me walk you there, it's late and you shouldn't be alone."

"You don't have to. You should still go in there and enjoy the rest of your night," you said, but you didn't let go of his hand.

"Nothing you say can convince me to make you walk these streets by yourself. Now come on," Tenoch pulled you along towards the direction of your hotel. He naturally took his place on the outside of the sidewalk, pulling you close to his side. You were acutely aware that no one seemed to be trying to grab your attention or catcall you the way they had when you had walked there earlier. A part of you wanted to scoff but you were also thankful for his presence. Your intoxicated state would have made you vulnerable.

"Where is home?" Tenoch asked as he tucked your hand into the crook of his arm, still slightly leading the way.

"Los Angeles would be the easy answer to that. But my family is split between there and Texas so I travel a lot," You replied.

"Do you always travel alone?" Tenoch glanced at you.

"Usually domestically I will, but internationally, this is the first time," you replied remembering how you ended up in Mexico by yourself.

"Why?" Tenoch was unable to stop his curiosity, the sadness that had tinged your voice made him seek out answers.

"I was supposed to come with my husband," You replied, looking up to meet Tenoch's glance, "Well ex-husband now."

You continued to walk, wondering if Tenoch was uncomfortable with the subject. But he was still holding your hand and walking with you.

"I'm sorry. Did you at least enjoy your trip?" You glanced over at him and smiled slightly as you thought about how to answer.

"It started off a little rough but I think the ending has been the highlight," You smiled at him when you said that, making sure he got the message. He stopped walking and you realized that you were standing in front of the small hotel you had booked. You thought for a moment that it looked too shabby but Tenoch didn't care about that.

"May I hug you?" He asked, finally letting go of your hand. You tried not to feel sad about the loss of his warmth.

"I'd be mad if you didn't," You replied as you welcomed his embrace. It was a firm and solid hug. His body was strong but not rock hard, and he caressed your back as he held you.

Pulling back slightly, but not releasing you, he spoke, "I am happy to have met you, Y/N. Tonight would not have been such a beautiful night without you."

You could feel your cheeks heating up under his gaze. You would have to look him up after this, if only to remind yourself of this night in the future. "Thank you, Tenoch, for asking me to dance. I don't think I would have been able to if you hadn't."

"When is your flight tomorrow?" He asked as you finally stepped away from each other.

"Noon. But you know how it is. I'll be there by 9 o'clock or earlier," You said, wrapping your arms around yourself, acutely feeling the loss of his body heat after spending hours reveling in it.

Both of you looked at each other. You contemplated asking for his number or inviting him to come to LA some time. But you remembered who he was. Los Angeles is not a place that he could be invisible and go dancing with a stranger for a night. You didn't notice that he had stepped closed to you again as you mulled over what to say so he wouldn't leave.

His hand on your cheek brought you back to Earth. You gasped lightly at how close he was and the look in his eyes. You watched him gaze into your eyes, travel down your face, and then focus on your lips. A moment seemed to last forever as you both hesitated. But for once in your life you let impulse win and you closed the distance.

Your lips met his in firm kiss, your hand on his jawline as you lightly sucked on his lip. Tenoch deepened the kiss slowly, holding your face as he did so. It was passionate and needy and ultimately over too soon. Once your lips parted, Tenoch took a step back and fully removed himself form your embrace. There was a shyness now to how he looked at you.

You smiled softly, knowing that this was as far as this would go. Neither you nor he would let it go anywhere else, because if you did then you would never want it to end.

"Goodnight, Tenoch. I promise, I'll watch your movies, " You joked lightly as you backed away towards the entrance to the small lobby of your hotel.

"Goodnight, y/n. You better. Maybe, if we meet again you'll actually recognize me," Tenoch replied with a carefree laugh and a soft smile. He turned and started his way back down the street.

You watched his back as he left you, "I don't think I'll ever be able to forget you now."

With a sigh you made your way back into the hotel. As you prepared for bed, doing the last few checks of your bags before your flight the next day, you couldn't help the smile playing across your lips at the events of the night.

s2 time! i'm not gonna be as thorough with it as i was w s1 bc i'm not a huge fan of season 2 ff but here goes

(this post's gonna be tosh/owen + some fragments talk, then i'm gonna reblog with a day in the death stuff, and then ill make a separate post for adam bc. woo nelly. that one warrants it.)

so lets start with the tosh/owen differences. a lot of their little scenes in s2 are markedly different - mostly as far as body language. there's a surprising amount of physical affection between them.

four separate occasions (eps 3, 4, 8, and 9) where there's physical affection between them in the script that didn't make it into the episode. i find this intriguing. tosh and owen are both very... non-affectionate people. both of them could be, with someone they loved romantically, but they don't strike me as the type of people who like to cuddle with their friends. they're both naturally very aloof and non-touchy, which makes that casual physical touch very ooc. i imagine that's why it didn't end up on screen. i figure the writers here knew the show was meant to push the tosh/owen angle in s2, but it's interesting to me that it ended up being a lot more subtle and... awkward in the show itself. i've already said i'm not a towen fan, for many reasons, but one is that there's just... zero chemistry between them (in s2, anyway). every interaction is forced and uncomfortable. it's weird enough that i was thrown off by it for a long time and couldn't figure out what the show was trying to do with them, lmao. i know that their awkwardness probably appeals to some people, and is cute or smth, but i dislike it personally. mostly i'm just petty the show reduced tosh down to that relationship tbh but whatever.

i can't help but wonder if they had this casual physical affection with each other, and if it fit in and didn't feel ooc for them, if i would like them as a couple more. but honestly i have thought about what the show could've done to make tosh/owen endear me, and i don't think uncharacteristic physical affection would be it. i do like that first scene, the way their communication styles clash a bit and they don't know quite how to talk to each other. i like owen awkwardly trying to comfort her, i love when he does that, how it's like a baby deer walking for the first time fhsdjfkds. im very endeared by the way owen's empathy is either out of nowhere and all-consuming, or something he has to force and is awkward about wielding. whenever he tries to be kind it's very tentative, because it doesn't come natural to him (anymore, at least), but he does care enough to try. i'm so fond of it. also hes sooo nd ehehe. tosh too.

will say this: i do appreciate owen getting hugs. he does need it. tosh needs it too. if the team WAS physically affectionate with each other they'd be better off, i think.

two more tosh/owen things...

see, this is what i mean when i say i couldn't tell what the show was doing with them. the SHOW can't even tell. this whole scene is written very vaguely, with little insight into owen's head, like the damn writer doesn't even know why he finally agreed. this is probably my, like, fourth favorite tosh/owen scene, which isn't saying much, 'cause i still don't really like it. it's cute in like, three spots, but mostly it just feels... weird. i don't understand what burn was intending with his acting choices, because owen comes across as insincere and slightly snide. it's weird and gross, and it rubs me wrong. i don't know if he's trying to be casual and play it cool or something, but the way he laughs at her makes me wanna punch him. the way owen treats tosh is just about the only place i legitimately can't stand him.

one last bit about it. see, 'fondly'. in the actual scene, i would describe the way owen looks at her in this moment as.... amused (at her expense) and slightly condescending. like he thinks she's laughable. it fucking bothers me. which sucks because i wanna like them, i do. i think they could be compatible. but the way he treats her in canon is nauseating and i can't get behind it.

right, and then two fragments moments i wanna discuss

all i really wanna say here is again (as mentioned in my end of days talk), chibnall didn't specify owen crying or anything, but he spends his whole segment of this ep in tears. point is i wanna thank burn gorman for the way owen constantly is teary eyed and miserable, with those big pretty brown doe eyes of his. it means the world to me. thats all

actually it's not all cuz i also wanna point out jack grabbing owen to stop him instead of owen collapsing into tears and sobbing into jacks chest while jack holds him. the dead man walking script similarly didn't specify the physical touch between jack and owen in the three places it appears, so i imagine that was largely something decided by the actors... i'm very compelled by the three separate instances where we see owen attack jack one minute / at one point in the ep and then sob in his arms the next. their relationship is sooo unhealthy fff

oof, that's a tough one bc i absolutely adore all the Clouis moments, they all just, give me life y'know? but okay, let's do thisss. (not going to rank them bc i just can't, i love em all even between my favorites hahaha)

Their Meeting: I MEAN, this is literally one of the most important moments because, duh, they're meeting each other; but the way it was done was simply perfection. It's just, there's so much chemistry since the very first moment they talk to each other, their conversation just flows so naturally and YOU KNOW IT'S LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. Their little harmless challenging that almost feels like flirting, the LOOKS, when he sings for her, the precious moment the three of them share when AJ presses the piano key, it's just all so good. (the whole scene just shines, and the context behind it is also important, because he was the one distracting AJ, most likely he volunteered to it).

Hunting with Louis and Aasim: COME ON, THE NINJA DIALOGUE THAT HAS A COMEBACK LATER AT EPISODE 4 BEFORE THEIR THIRD KISS, PLEASE. Clementine allowing herself to be silly and AJ doing it too, and Aasim exasperated? I love it. also, THEIR WHOLE FLIRTING WHEN PLAYING WITH THE WALKER, OH MY GOD. I love it I love it I LOVE IT, did i said i love it yet? because i do. a lot. also, that little moment of vulnerability both of them share after they're done with their game? like, they let each other in for a brief moment before closing again, but that meant something.

APPEAL TO LOUIS: GOD I JUST CAN'T BE CALM IN THIS MOMENT, HELP. IT ALWAYS GETS TO ME. like, the whole scene in general, since leaving the basement and seeing all the kids reunited in the yard, the whole atmosphere, the rain, Rosie barking, the yelling. it all adds to the scene and it's brilliant. when you appeal to Louis he's hesitant, obviously, this is a girl he's known for 2 days, asking him to trust her, before his best friend. it's hard, and we can see Marlon has this power on him and honestly, that's not good, nor healthy. but Clementine is just so worthy of his trust he just goes stands between her and a fucking gun now aimed at his head. but this is marvelously done, because the scene wants you to believe you made a mistake, that Louis isn't gonna help you. we see Marlon adjusting the gun, aiming with more angry and mad determination, Clementine closes her eyes almost waiting for the death.. and then Louis walks into frame and stands in front of her, with a look that just, God, the look he has in that moment. he begs Marlon to put down the gun, and it's just such an amazing moment.

Their talk in Clem's room: I'm talking about the one after AJ gets shot, when he brings new shirts for the kid. I don't know how exactly describe what this scene makes me feel, like, they're talking seriously, there's an enormous tension between them, Marlon's death is just fresh for some hours, and Louis is grieving. i don't know, this scene it's just so angsty and tbh i love it because it's realistic, he's not gonna forgive them right away, but he feels guilty about AJ getting shot, and at this point he obviously have feelings for Clem too, but again, he's grieving and blaming them and it's just a chaos in his head. but he thought of them, he went out of his way to search for Tenn's old clothes to give them to AJ. but dude, my favorite part? “Louis? I really missed you”. a moment of brief silence, and then “i missed you, too” and then leaves. my heart.

Practicing archery, and apologizing: Man man man man man man MAN, I love this moment. Louis is apologizing to Clementine, he admit he was wrong about voting against them, voting for them to leave. he just didn't knew what else to do, he was hurt and grieving, he just wanted it to stop, and didn't knew exactly what to do. but he doesn't excuses himself, he apologizes sincerely, and Clem can see that, so she forgives him. now they're in good terms again, and THEY FLIRT. IT'S ADORABLE. i especially love that when you're practicing and keep failing, their convo goes like:

L: “okay, during the fight, ask all the raiders to stand still about a foot away from you”

C: “i wasn't that bad” (and Louis just gives her the funniest seriously? look) “fine, i need some practice”

L: “told you you couldn't be worse than me. good news, we're the worst together”

and then when he says “thank you, for all of it” WITH THAT SOFT LOOK NGHSH MY HEART. BUT BUT BUUUT, a little underrated moment just after that, when you keep talking to him after that, in the second and final try, their conversation goes:

L: need something?

C: just checking in.

L: no big changes, i didn't become a master in your brief absence.

C: I'm shocked.

THEIR SMILES?? THEIR CHEMISTRY?? I can't, I'm in love with them.

First kiss, piano scene: come on guys, y'all knew this couldn't be missed. everything about this scene gets to me, how when Clem stays quiet Louis reassures her and tells her he's there for her, and she gives him a little smile. or when she says she can't give up, he says that if she won't, he definitely can't. then they get to the piano, and one of the most romantic and magical scenes I've seen ever plays out.

they start to tune the piano, and Louis makes his little joke about blowing on the strings, and tbh i love when Clem tells him she can't believe she fell for that, but not in a serious, annoyed tone, no, she's having fun, and Louis loves that, because he gets all shy and says “it's good to see you like this”.

now onto the real shit. he finally opens up entirely to her, shares his insecurities, how he feels, and that she's the only one that has actually bothered to try and see the real him, past the jokes and the piano. we finally see how they allow each other to be vulnerable. Clementine confesses her own feelings and Louis can't believe it, and when it sinks, he's all excited and names his song after her. and finally, THEY KISS. AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL, AND I LOVE IT. THE SMILES THEY GIVE AFTER, IT'S JUST SO CUTE. (i do wanna give an honorific mention to one dialogue that you can pick instead of the kiss, because the "you're such a weirdo" "yeah, but apparently you dig that, so who's the real weirdo here? it's both of us" it's adorable as hell).

Hand holding and soft looks: Quick little moment at the start of ep3, when Louis takes Clem's hand and gives her a soft look and a soft smile, as well as a little nod. and she looks back at him with a soft look and soft smile of her own, and i don't think I've seen such a soft and adorable look on Clem's face.

The date: their first official date. this scene tells you a lot about Louis, starting from the obvious like how he took enough time to think about it to search and read some magazines for advice, to most serious stuff like Louis' self esteem and confidence issues. even after everything that has happened between them, even if they're in a official, romantic relationship, he can't process or even accept the fact that Clementine was willing to save him, voluntarily. he needs to know, because the guilt is also eating him alive. and when Clem tells him she saved him because he's important to her? i mean, just look at him. he's shocked, like, again, he can't believe someone actually cares for him. it's truly depressive to think about, and seeing how the other kids treat him most of the time, I'm not even surprised. he immediately redirects the subject, and when Clementine assures him they're gonna get their friends back, he finally smiles and reveals what he actually went to.

he offers to have a date, she accepts, and they're adorable. i must say, my favorite dialogue choice for the date when Louis asks what 'her thing' is, is saying brawn. just because i think it's funny how Louis pretends to tighten his 'muscles' and winks at her and oh my God. I'm in love. and she just chuckles and it's adorable.

then they have a toast, stand up, and share a little but not less adorable moment where they just stare at each other, with soft looks, no words needed. it's like it's just the two of them alone in the world for a little time. that's before AJ rushes in and interrupts them, of course.

Hootenanny: I need to say, it's not an specific moment but a bunch of lines, looks, little moments between them here. the amount of looks Clementine and Louis give each other during the whole thing it's insane lmao, they're so in love. when Ruby asks Clem about the music and she chooses classic, Louis says “ah, a woman after my own heart” THEY'RE SO CUTE. again, THE LOOKS, THE LOOKS. also, Clementine both sees and hears Louis and AJ bonding and it's heartwarming.

wanted to highlight the ‘Don't be afraid’ scene because it's emotional and adorable.

Calm before the storm: Y'know, when all the kids are preparing and almost ready to get into the Delta ship and meet James, bla bla bla. the important here: Clem looks around for Louis and she finally spots him, away from the rest and alone, contemplating the boat. Clem gets close and Louis shares his worries, about how he doesn't wanna screw up and fears for her safety because he's used to "fucking up", and even when Clementine tries to reassure him, he's still not sure and asks her to slap him. obviously, we're not abusive so we don't do that, and since we can't hug him and tell him it's all gonna be okay, we're gonna smooch him bc we love our boyfriend and we gotta let him now we're here for them somehow. then he's all flustered and Clem's smiling and they're cute until AJ interrupts again but I love it because it's hilarious. "you'll learn when you're older" Louis is obviously finding it funny while now Clem's the flustered one and she's like, look to the other direction and I'm laughing.

They're alive: After the Delta explodes and they finally reunite with each other and they're glad they're safe. I love that Clem can hug him and tell him how happy she is to see him, and viceversa. but i also wanna highlight how she can make a callback to one of his line with the "and THAT'S how you school a walker” simply because it let us know she listens to him and remember even a little, funny line he said 2 weeks ago. also love how she says it and what he answers.

little jump to after they get Violet, when all the kids are reunited behind some boxes and Clementine tells them to run to Willy and Ruby while she kills the walkers. you can see Louis' worried and scared face, for her. then, when they're all leaving, Louis is the last one and it goes like this

L: right behind me?

C: yup, just like the ninja i am.

L: the ninjas we are.

and then he kisses her, tells her to be careful, and goes after the others, and they look at each other with worrying faces, and i just love all of this.

Reunion and family hug: Clementine, AJ and Tenn get out of the cave to start and try to look for a way back to the school when they hear a noise, just to find Louis there. AJ runs to him and hugs him tight, while Clementine watcha with fondness before joining in. then Louis makes a callback to the very first sentence he said to her, and she remembers it because she shakes her head with a knowing smile. then one of the cutest moments between these two, when he tells her they're all back at the school she brings up the fact that he went to look for them. he takes her hands and the exchange goes like:

“thought i lost you”

“only for a minute”

“longest damn minute of my life”

like??? they love each other so much already???? and some people dare to say they don't have chemistry, pfft.

Their new home and a bright future: It continues right after the last moment, but it deserves a spot of it's own. Everything about this scene it's just brilliant, from Clementine trying to ease his worries and guilt about killing Dorian, to him bringing up the house his parents were building before their divorce. this single thought brought Clementine and then Louis to think about their dreamhome, and everything about that conversation is beautiful, because it's them sharing their mutual hope of a future, of being together and feeling at home.

Trust and love: To finally end this, their last moment. We see Clementine and Louis looking at the map, planning their next move since a caravan has been spotted close their grounds. Clementine trusts Louis with this mission, and Louis is willing. they both have come a long way, and they've developed a lot since the start of the season, and you can see that. Louis asks AJ to join him, he forgives him about Tenn, and they're in good terms again. finally, Clementine practically begs him to stay safe, to what Louis smiles at her and gives her a kiss in the cheek. and I die. they're adorable.

oh my God, i think i went a bit over board with this,,, just a bit,,,

anyway, I'm sorry that instead of just answering simply with my favorite clouis moments i made a whole ass essay to each one of them, Clouis just makes me like that y'know

ohhhh you shoulda never asked me this question I think about those things way 2 much.. get your reading glasses on pal it gets real ugly down there

ok firstly want to clarify wit "bro aura" there's "whoa this character is so [bro]" in a singular characterization way n then there's "ohhh this is somethin the bros would do" in a situational way n then there's a more general/subtle yet distinctive vibe like the Pathos n Dynamics of it all... that's how i think of it at least all very convoluted yes but just 4 distinction 🦠 that being said I think these recs are more situational/dynamics rather than than str8 up characterizations bc if i tried listing all the individually sergio or joaquin aura coded movies we'd be here forever and i have a pie in the oven rn i don't have the time!!! ok onward .

Some Like It Hot (1959) — sorry to be corny but it's a classique for a reason!! Tony Curtis is so demure and Jack Lemmon is god's favorite court jester U can't take ur eyes off that man's mannerisms + they both play off each other so well!!! I love dummies stumbling thru silly hijinks!! I'd also recommend Matt Baume's video essay on the making of the film for a TMC #herstory moment

The Odd Couple (1968) — kinda theeee opposites-as-roommates movie, not my fav tbh it's a bit of a slog when Jack's not on screen but worth it if you want like a Cinema Classic Bro (brorigin..) moment that's kinda the foundation for the opposites-as-roomies dynamic

Paul Newman + Robert Redford are the original bros in my heart so Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid (1969) is a must and U might as well (in fact I implore you to) toss in The Sting (1973) to cement the fact that their chemistry is magical even just from the way they look at each other with those freaky beautiful blue eyes man it's like they're telekineticing... telekineticizing... shakspear luv.... I got into cards bc of this card trick Paul's character does ugh truly titillating work...

Rope (1948) inspired by Leopold and Loeb (the original Billy + Stu from Scream if u really think about it) sociopathic buddies with a buttoned-up formality that gives it this smexy polite n repressed edge (don't you love when the killers are true gentlemen!) this film also has a fun gay history so pair with Matt Baume's vid if u end up watching! if you like murder mysteries I think you'll enjoy

all 3 of the movies I did simstober edits based on obviiiii though I feel like generally every other 80s/90s horror movie has bro moments + I'm sure I've even posted a few rando screenshots here if u wanna dig around. I rewatched Re-Animator (1985) last month + almost did that for this year's simstober edit instead 🤭 and An American Werewolf in London (1981)!!!! good ol chummy back n forth right from the start + it also has the best transformation scene Ever (to me).. the Fright Night remake (2011) if u wanna stay in that 'friend comes back wrong' lane (the original is so good too but doesn't have as much buddy interaction if rmbr correctly)... also Lair of the White Worm (1988) which is soooooo fkn fun and worth it for the campiness alone but THAT ENDING !!!! I think about it all the time, it's one of my favs!!

Thelma & Louise (1991) is monumentalllll (lightly referenced in this bro post a couple years ago hehe) if U watch Butch Cassidy u gotta pair these two together, outlaw buddy movie marathon baybee!! & while we're in '91 might as well toss in Point Break ("I know you want me so bad it's like acid in your mouth" bonk) there's just somethin about late 80s/early 90s homoerotic undercover cop/action cheese .. the devastating n overbearing power of friendship(+love) or somethin... something gay was in the water in '91

if u don't mind more of an ensemble film Jason Lee + Jeremy London's characters in Mallrats (1995) are so spot on right down to their stupid conversations + even their outfits and PATHOSSSSS🤌 wise, that general meandering 90s feel ticks the bro aura in my head well BRAIN TURNING TO MUSH god this is getting long but I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface OK buck up (<-me to myself)

situationally Y Tu Mamá También (2001) is prob obvious when it comes to 2 friends getting into a Thing that drastically changes their dynamic (not that that's necessarily the bros .) + Splendor (1991) also fits the 2 guys 1 woman dynamic too but in a sillier way + Araki's style is a treat for the eyes just in general. Hush! (2001) also fits that dynamic but they're actually boyfriends rather than just friends (girl wants one of the guys to get her preggo bc she wants a baby & kinda forces herself into their relationship. me as hell. jk) but it's surprisingly really heartwarming!!! perf for the holidays!! Plan B (2010) is sooo underrated, that's another silly plot where a guy wants to get back with his ex-girlfriend & he hears that her new bf is bi so he tries to seduce the current bf to get him away from her...???? soo fkn silly and fun but Also surprisingly sweet and charming!! I posted about Matthias & Maxime (2019) when I first watched it bc it felt that uncanny... tbqh I'd recommend any early Xavier Dolan to immerse urself in joaquin's early québécois herstory (I totally ripped his backstory from I Killed My Mother not that we would even KNOW that @ djservo's slow ass smh) but this one in particular is soooooo....??!!! just watch it and report back to me . and i'm sorry to say in the year of lord 2023 that The Social Network (2010) is still that bitch to me hand covers bruise I WAS YOUR ONLY FRIEND YOU HAD ONE FRIEND oh my god JAIL TIME mr fincher for making me emotional over BILLIONAIRES !!!

not a movie but I've been sick n wanting something easy on the brain so I've been rewatching Boy Meets World from the start and if you don't already know, I based the bro apartment on Eric + Jack's in s5 and I've finally reached s5 and MAN O MAN!!! goldmine of bro auras through n through honestly cory + shawn have their moments too but literally just watch any eric + jack compilation on youtube (or jump to s5 tbh) to see the vibes it's actually so serious that I've been building an apartment from scratch in my feverish haze to closer resemble their with a working balcony it's soooooo soo gravely serious to me wait what were talking about again

the visuals were beautiful

the music was great

however, the writing in this song is kinda meh

apparently, the song used in the mv is an fansong that's created by dj paranoid, some of the lyrics were changed

to fit the canon series I guess

and the creators made the original song all about stolas's relationship with blitzo

you know what, since I can't really explain my thoughts on it that well I'm just going to quote some comments I found on an video talking about the mv, it'll probably explain how I really feel I guess I don't know

"imma be honest, them changing the song to be focus solely on blitzo kinda rubs me the wrong way"

"the song and animation were amazing but holy 💀💀💀💀 stolas and blitz relationship is so badly written and there's so many inconveniences in their love or whatever to the point that this song doesnt hit that hard because of how non existent their chemistry is"

I'm sick and tired of viviziepop making helluva boss the "stolitz (stolas x blitzo) show" I really wish she can just give her characters more depth and more lore (ESPECIALLY THE FEMALE CHARACTERS), season 2 of helluva boss has seriously gone downhill because of stolitz, the only good episodes that season 2 helluva boss has so far is episode 6 and episode 7, hopefully someday viviziepop can either improve on stolas's and blitzo's relationship with each other or just let stolas move on from blitzo and date someone else (that isn't stella, because she's mine.....MINE!!!!!!!!)

anyways, anywayssss here's an rewrite of the "just look my way" mv, my rewrite of this is kinda more darker than the original so yeah

THE REWRITE:

on July 16 2023, I made an post introducing batibat, Krasue, stolas and andrealphus and in that post I talked about stolas's backstory, her disability and her relationship with andrealphus, I also talked about how andrealphus is affected by stolas's blindness and how it sometimes stresses her out however I didn't talk about stolas's point of view of her curse and how it stresses her out

so here it is

ever since her father put a curse on her that made her blind, she was sad, not only can she not see andrealphus and her friends anymore but it also took away the thing that she loved doing and that is reading, she really REALLY loves to read. it was her favorite hobby and the book she really liked reading the most is "the sunlighter of Lucifer" an book thats created by virgo and aries

one day her mom destroyed the book because stolas was ignoring her and she didn't like it, stolas was so mad that she slapped her mom in the face and went into her room crying

anyways back to stolas's blindness curse

everything in her view was pitch black, she felt like she was looking at the void all the time. even tho she uses an walking stick and andrealphus as an way to see

it still feels like she's looking at the void

sometimes she has nightmares of losing andrealphus

and she sometimes has nightmares of her family eventually finding where she and andrealphus lives, she feels like they are going to hurt her and andrealphus or worse kill both of them

2022 Year in Review: My Korean drama recommendations

2022 went by so quickly, and I think that's partly because almost every week I had new episodes of shows to look forward to. I'm a bit of a contradiction: I don't have the patience to wait for a new show to be completed so I could binge it, but I (maybe not-so) patiently wait for episodes every week, haha. TBH, I find I'm more invested in a show and its characters when I watch a drama weekly. And there were so many characters worth the investment in 2022: Woo Young Woo, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, the Oh sisters, Kim Yumi, Jin Do Jun and Jang Uk, to name a few.

I just want to make clear that, as in previous years, this is by no means a list of the best Korean dramas of 2022. These are merely my favorites among the ones I watched that premiered in 2022 (or ended in 2022).

YUMI'S CELLS 2

New season means new love for Kim Yumi (Kim Go Eun) as she begins a romance with co-worker Yoo Babi following her breakup with video game designer Goo Woong. TBH, I wasn't quite sure how I'd feel about the new pairing — I have a soft spot for Ahn Bo Hyun — but Jinyoung charmed me even before the series started. He and Go Eun have a sweet and natural chemistry that made me root for Yumi and Babi, even knowing how the relationship ended in the webtoon. Another thing I love about the series is its portrayal of Yumi's pursuit of her dream to be a writer — from the frustrations of earlier rejections to keeping it positive while faced with criticisms and the satisfaction of another job (book) well done. That shot of her jumping on the bed toward the end of the series was cathartic and the perfect cap to Yumi's growth. (Viki)

LITTLE WOMEN

This is NOT Louisa May Alcott's famous novel though it does share some themes and puts sisters at the forefront of the story. The Oh sisters — In Joo, In Kyung and In Hye — just want to live a life not steeped in poverty. So when 2 billion won falls on In Joo's lap, their problems are over, right? Nope. A multitude of troubles arrive as the sisters get entangled with a rich, powerful and corrupt family with a lot of unscrupulous allies. This series got me on the edge of my seat from the very first episode and the thrills and tension never let up until the end. I absolutely love how messy and chaotic the sisters and their relationships with each other are. They love but they also fight, annoy and block each other, LOL! Now please cast Kim Go Eun and Wi Ha Joon in an action comedy series or film and give them the ending on the sunny beaches of Greece that their characters deserve. (Netflix)

BULGASAL: IMMORTAL SOULS

This is the first drama that caught my attention last year, a fantasy with monsters, past lives, immortal love and families. It's the story of how the lives of a man (Lee Jin Wook) who was turned into an immortal monster 600 years ago and a woman (Kwon Na Ra) who has been dying and reincarnating for centuries have been intertwined. The world building is quite interesting and the central mystery keeps you guessing until the very end. Keep an eye out for familiar faces as people from the past emerge in the present. (Netflix)

A BUSINESS PROPOSAL

This romcom is adorable with a capital A. Shin Ha Ri (Kim Se Jeong) shows up to a blind date pretending to be her best friend and does her best to turn off a potential match by behaving outrageously. It's a schtick she and her chaebol best friend had cooked up a long time ago to discourage suitors. Unfortunately, the blind date turns out to be Kang Tae Moo (Ahn Hyo Seop), the young president of the food company where she works. And even more unfortunately, he's interested and now wants to marry her! Hilarious chaos ensues, abetted by the couple's adorable best friends (the second couple), her zany family and his kdrama-loving grandfather. You'll never look at an archaeopteryx (bird-like dinosaur) the same way again. (Netflix)

TOMORROW

This is a lovely, heartbreaking, oftentimes cathartic drama about people desperate enough to consider taking their own lives and the team of resolute grim reapers who work very hard to prevent their deaths. Comatose Choi Jun Woong (Rowoon) is the newbie in the Risk/Crisis Management Team led by Koo Ryeon (Kim Hee Sun). Lim Ryung Gyu rounds up the team. Head of the Soul Collection Team Park Joong Gil, despite being a fellow grim reaper, is a thorn on the team's side — he has a special animosity for Ryeon that may have something to do with the past. Fortunately, the team has a stalwart supporter in the Jade Emperor (Kim Hae Sook). (Netflix)

MILITARY PROSECUTOR DOBERMAN

Legal action drama with a touch of comedy is probably the best way to describe this series and it's the perfect leading man vehicle for Ahn Bo Hyun. Do Bae Man passes the bar with basically just a GED and so finds himself unable to find a spot in a decent law firm until he gets an "offer he can't refuse" from corrupt lawyer Yong Moon Go: Serve in the military for five years as a prosecutor and then join his prestigious firm after. The plan is going swimmingly until he crosses paths with another military prosecutor, Cha Woo In (Jo Bo Ah), who is targeting some members of the military brass for revenge after her beloved father's suspicious death. After long-buried secrets begin to emerge, Do Bae Man finds himself reevaluating what it is he really wants to do with his life. (Viki)

EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO

Woo to the Young to the Woo! The series follows Woo Young Woo, a young lawyer on the autism spectrum. She's got a brilliant legal mind, able to see different angles of a case but struggles with day-to-day interactions. Fortunately, she has the people looking out for her, like her dad, her boss/mentor, her law school friend and, of course, the handsome support team member who might just have more than friendship in mind. Park Eun Bin is brilliant as Woo Young Woo, she truly gets you invested in her challenges and triumphs. The legal maneuverings are fairly interesting, especially when they involve a rival law firm and somebody from WYW's past. (Netflix)

ALCHEMY OF SOULS

In the land of Daeho, an assassin trapped in a blind woman's weak body encounters a young lord from a powerful family who needs help to unlock his powers. Interesting lead and supporting characters, solid world-building, fantastic sword and sorcery action? I was sold from the very beginning. At the end of the second ep, I was absolutely in love with the feisty Mudeok and her rather bratty young master/pupil Jang Uk who just wants his gate of energy opened so he can do what everybody can — cast spells and use a sword. There's a twist at the end of the 20-episode first season, and I guess your enjoyment of the second season would largely depend on how much you accept the change. But in both seasons, the crown prince remains quite the scene stealer and he's possibly my most favorite character of all. (Netflix)

UNDER THE QUEEN'S UMBRELLA

A truly female-driven drama — from the queen and the queen dowager down to the concubines and, yes, even the court ladies. The series begins with Queen Hwa Ryeong's biggest problem being the four grand princes' rather relaxed approach to their education, lagging behind the other sons of the king via his numerous scheming concubines. But tragedy strikes and the queen and her sons suddenly find themselves fighting to make sure they don't lose not just their positions but their very lives. Kim Hye Soo makes it so easy to root for the embattled queen who wields her position and her eyebrows skillfully to thwart ministers, concubines and her mother-in-law, the queen dowager. I also love that her sons, the four grand princes, are unlike other royal brothers in sageuks — they are close, affectionate and loyal, leaving the dirty tricks to their half-brothers. This series probably has the most satisfying ending among the ones I watched last year. (Netflix)

REBORN RICH

Yoon Hyun Woo is a hard-working, loyal, no-questions-asked employee of the powerful Jin Family, which controls the Soonyang Group. One day, on an overseas errand to retrieve some secret money, he is betrayed by someone in the family and murdered — but promptly finds himself "waking up" in the body of the youngest grandson of the Jins, back in 1987. How, you ask? I finished the series but that part is still unclear. What's clear is how charismatic and believable Song Joong Ki is as the twentysomething investment whiz Do Jun. And what an amazing actor Lee Sung Min, as Soonyang chairman and patriarch Jin Yang Cheol is. The push-pull in their relationship is what made the series work for 15 episodes. Not that the supporting cast members are slackers. This is one of the best ensembles I've ever seen, the actors really working to make these characters ones you'd love to hate. Some of the business stuff might put off viewers but I found the whole thing fascinating and easily understood. I cheered when Do Jun/Hyun Woo used his knowledge of the future as well as his relatives' greed to take pieces of Soonyang. I'm recommending this series but with a caveat: I found the ending a bit of a mess and rather unsatisfactory. BUT the previous 15 episodes are fantastic and definitely worth a watch. (Viki)

Bonus recommendations

I recently started dipping my toes into Chinese dramas, even though I'm still intimidated by the episode count. "Love Between Fairy and Devil" is sweet and hilarious and has fantastic special effects. (Netflix and Viki)

But my heart truly belongs to Li Wei and the sixth young prince of Xin State as they figure out family, politics and love as their "New Life Begins." (Viki)

Last but certainly not the least, "Pachinko," which even though it stars some of the biggest names in Korean entertainment is not considered K-Drama by its creators. Based on Min Jin Lee's critically acclaimed novel, the series — Youn Yuh Jung, Lee Min Ho and Kim Min Ha are key parts of the ensemble — follows the trial and tribulations of a Korean family over four generations. The story begins in Korea, moves to Japan and eventually spreads to the United States. The story is rich and emotional, the direction precise and the acting superb. It has been recognized in a lot of year-end lists and recently won the Critics Choice Award for best foreign language series. (Apple TV +)

sorry i'm actually still on that castlevania brainrot, with a big big focus on CoD since i've been re-playing it in my free time, but felt like i was being too annoying about it between simping for Hector in a way i have not publicly done for any other blorbo and bitching about netflixvania lmao

now that i've had some time to let my thoughts Stew and Simmer, and after consuming whatever Hector-centric fan content i can get my greedy little hands on, i got some Thoughts on all the pairings i've come across, and put together my as-of-now takes on them:

• CV: CoD Hector/Isaac - yes! THE ship of all time! versatile, but however you ship them, They Are Each Other's Whole World!!! they're best friends at minimum (at least before Hec's betrayal) and hell yes they're fooling around with each other - they're 2 dudes in their early 20s who grew up together, literally have no one else and probably spend damn near 24/7 together as a result of their living situation/jobs. is it a casual friends with benefits thing? are they romantically involved and devoted to each other? work besties? mentor mentee kinda thing? is it mutually toxic and/or abusive? friendly rivalry? bitter enemies til the end? it all works! the beauty of the canon not being set means theres so much room for interpretation, but i don't think hector or isaac would be as broken up as they are if they didn't feel something for each other. for me, it all tracks and part of the fun is seeing new ways to interpret their dynamic (except no one makes content for their game counterparts anymore after netflixvania 😢)

• Netflixvania!Hector/Isaac - sorry but i just can't get on board the Forgehusbands thing here. in this version, the most chemistry they have is barely tolerating each other as colleagues. its not even animosity, just straight up indifference. then hector spends some months in his own personal hell being Lenores plaything probably just trying to not lose his sanity while isaac is thousands of miles away consumed by the thought of revenge but otherwise living it up. Issac doesnt even really save Hector in the end…? and idk why but the writers were really pushing a Lenector agenda so there really isn't much of anything to ship here. N!Isaac's too dry and serious about his own misanthropy without any of the mindless, fanatical devotion to Drac's cause CoD!Isaac has, while N!Hector is just. barely a character tbh with how passive and contradicting he feels (and i will CURSE the writers for forever squandering his character when he probably has the most official, coherent material dedicated to explaining his whole deal!!!). there's not much in this canon that drives them towards each other in a way i find compelling, but if someone out there could take on the challenge and actually show how they end up getting together (as friends or romantically) i'd be interested in that! because the current status quo where they're Inexplicably An Item From The Start is a little stale tbh

• Hector/Rosaly - YESSSSSS i love how their relationship is depicted in both PtR and the manga series! (favorite panel of all time: "Oh, you bit right away") i've seen some criticisms of this ship and specifically Rosaly essentially being Lisa 2.0 and a namedropped source of Man Pain™ for all of CoD's intro cutscene before never being mentioned again and. yeah, that's all true. BUT its so soft, and quiet and loving. they really are perfect for each other <3 and it's an interesting parallel for Drac/Lisa, and how Hector doesn't go on a genocidal rampage after losing his beloved in the exact same way, despite his own misanthropy still holding strong. does that say something about Hector's character, or was it all just Death's scheming going exactly as planned?

• Hector/Julia - nnnnooo…. come on man. you cant fuck your ex's (that you killed btw) sister that just so happens to look like your recently deceased wife. who was murdered by aforementioned ex. god the baggage going in all directions here... thankfully, even in canon its only implied at best, if you turn your head and squint. i like 'em as Just Friends, thanks - 2 magic wielders that share a bond through being persecuted by humanity, and for losing a mutual someone they cared for deeply. (side note: wish we saw more of Julia! i love that for what little we got of her, she does seem to mirror Isaac, in ways only siblings who are close can)

• N!Hector/Lenore - no and FUCK no. i actively hate this pairing. the only acceptable interaction between these 2 is Hector staking Lenore through the heart with a smile on his face. and before anyone comes for me, it has NOTHING to do with the fact that it's a m/f ship, because as mentioned above, i adore Hector/Rosaly. it's not even because it's abusive, you CAN write and enjoy darker relationship dynamics but. this just wasn't it. if they were going for an enemies-to-lovers kind of thing, they failed spectacularly at establishing the 'to lovers' part. the only reason i enjoyed their S4 interactions is because it's seemingly the only time in the entire series anyone talks to Hector with any level of respect, even if it was just dumb sex jokes.

• Hector/Alucard - this one surprised me, for simultaneously seeming to hold both statuses as 'squarely defined as a rarepair by most fan's standards' but also 'there were at least a good few pages worth of the Hector Castelavnia tag on Ao3 that was just these 2 as the main pairing'?

not really sure how i feel about this one - i like them as individual characters who have a lot of parallels going on (probably because Hector is supposed to be like an 'improved' version of Alucard from what i've read?)

i like the idea of their netflixvania versions trauma bonding after the shit in S3 because good lord they both need someone who can understand what they've been through. but they don't interact at all in the netflix show, so no dice there imo. under a more cynical lens, my feelings are something like "you only ship these 2 because they're both soft prettyboys you wanna see fucking huh"

if you go by the games canon and lore then they're just about the same age and logically would have interacted at least occasionally in their time at Castlevania but ofc we dont see any of it. theres some ancient fanfics out there that expand on this with alucard, hector, and isaac all being childhood friends before they grew up and had to kinda move into their respective roles and protocol and formality and work kinda made them drift apart and i find those very cute <3

i think this pairing could work honestly, they're both generally kind-hearted albeit tragic souls with a cold disposition who experienced the madness of Castlevania and Dracula's vengeance firsthand. there's gotta be something you can pull outta there. mmmaybe not quite friendship either but.... kindred souls. they have that "prince and his knight" kinda vibe, at least aesthetically, which i can get behind! and i like what i've seen from the exceedingly rare pre-netflixvania fics that exist, and even the netflixvania fanfics are kinda cute (please can we move away from the theme of N!Trevor brutalizing N!Hector out of mistrust just as a chance for N!Alucard to swoop in and save him? shit is damn near ubiquitous even in my very brief time exploring)

• Hector/Trevor - (i should specify i'm referring to their games versions exclusively here. N!Trevor isn't even aware of N!Hector's existence afaik) i dig it, there's just the very inconvenient fact that Trevor's supposed to be married to Sypha lol. and i dont really see a trephacard type of situation happening here (not that im crazy for trephacard now that i mention it. it's cute, it's wholesome but eh, not much substance to it? im realizing i like my ships with a pinch of tension)

so much comedic potential! a fun ship to entertain, but i feel like no one seems to make any content that captures their dynamic well. so ultimately this is a "the best ship is friendship" type of relationship for me. i have a headcanon that Trevor tries, really, really tries, to reach out and befriend Hector post-CoD in a way he might not for other people, out of guilt and concern he'd end up like Adrian (except at least Adrian has the option to wake up and rejoin the world, if he felt like he was finally ready someday. Hector, for all his demonic powers, is still very much human and is shown not once, but twice, ready to let himself go peacefully from this world because he just can't envision a future for himself after Castlevania and losing everything that's important to him. and i generally just like Trevor being a Genuinely Good Person, despite being a bit of a pompous hot-head. miss me with whatever netflixvania was going for)

• Hector/Dracula - ….okay so a certain tumblr user's AU got to me and i do enjoy how dark and fucked up this is <33 and thats pretty much exclusively how i view this ship - always a power imbalance, never wholesome. that's all i have to say about it, don't really wanna go into specifics and squick anyone out but uhh yeah. it's not pretty lmao

idk if this is on purpose or not by the stylists, but it struck me that he now looks more mainstream. Normal hair, more standard clothes. Is he tweaking his look into what he thinks is more her type? 🤔

Professor X uses a very suspect metaphor to convince FL that ML is not her mom. The true captain of this ship.

wow, that's the lamest bar fight I've encountered in a cdrama. and that's saying something.

but now ML is wooing FL by commenting on her code. That's... pretty much how I had Mark win over Eduardo in my most popular TSN fic. 🙈 So, valid.

"Miss Zhu, what's wrong with me?"/ Nothing. You're good. / (sexual tension you could cut with a knife) / "They're coming." / "Who is afraid, you or I?"

OKKKKKKKAY that was chemistry. And you obviously, obviously are so into each other. So just get together already. I suppose I've been there. They're drawing it out because they're enjoying the mutual chase.

ML totally deserves to be in a horrible bitchy mood after Random Female Extra spilled coffee on his computer (justified homicide tbh) and yet, my dude, there were a hundred more times you'd be justified to be a jerk to Annoying Class President. Like, the 1 (one) thing that's not legit is to shame her for not being as smart as your canon-certified genius self. There are so many other valid reasons she sucks.

As she immediately demonstrates. ugh, can't stand her.

Episode 7

sigh, my second hand embarrassment squick is not enjoying the bid subplot. They do suck at design but ML's methods are also very immature. Most rl professionals wouldn't do business again with a partner that pulled that bullshit on a bid, even if they won it. The narrative tries to excuse it but NO. This is the type of engineer who needs to be transferred to more independent tasks, who you quarantine from having to work with others before he death spirals your staff turn-over rate 😂

His boss boyfriend shtick is age appropriate dumb, so it's endearing. He's been creating reasons to allow her to stick with him for a long time now. And she's actively participating, while pretending to have no choice.

ML recovers his image in my eyes with his practicality at his project being swiped by the org higher in the hierarchy. Pick your battles. It's one thing between independent companies, but this is an internal fight they can't win. They don't have the political muscle in the uni. Unless the professor wants to go to battle for them, or if her mom has a connection. But even then, why spend your social capital that way? I'd just take the L and move on. [Edit: I'm on ep 10 and have to laugh because she DID leverage her connections to win the battle. well ok then, girl! 😂 ]

Episode 8

ha ha I'd also do absolute bare minimum (if that) on the stolen project, so I'm feeling FL at the start. Guys, this is where malicious compliance shines!

ML and Annoying Class President uniting to protect FL was not what I was expecting to start this episode.

"As for Li Xun's matter, I care." sigh. A fool, but a romantic one.

Evil Project Stealer is incompetent. That should be its own vengeance in a way. But sadly there are always those people who are incredibly skilled in managing up and so they coast forever.

Her minion is actually pathetic, though. Those grad school traps where you're blocked from finishing your program & get taken advantage of are very very real. It happens in North America too.

Cutely drunk FL is an overused cliche BUT I am enjoying the dynamic of Ren Di with the budding couple and most importantly, FL is indeed adorable smooshing her face into his neck. and then clutching his hand ❤

I applaud her crawling into his bed. But the fact that he wasn't in it reduces 2 stars.

A+ collapsing against his shoulder to sleep, though. awww he admitted she affects him.

I thought I was the only one who thinks Loustat's romance is as dry as a desert. I don't know whether is the direction or the cinematography or writing or whatever the fuck. I see all this sex but none of the desire which is funny because it's all the way around in the books, no dicks touch butts in the novel but it is still a very sensual read. I don't think is a lack of chemistry between the actors neither because they're both clearly committed to their roles and enjoy their parts. I don't know. It's all very weird. Maybe Bryan just hit the jackpot with Hugh and Mads.

I MEAN HE DEFINITELY HIT A JACKPOT LMAO but like I don't think Jacob & Sam are bad, either, and like THEY HAVE SO MUCH CHEMISTRY IN INTERVIEWS???? WHERE IS THAT ON THE SHOW?

It's largely about the writing though and like all my complaints about the show have to do with writing. They're both doing awesome work with what they're given lmao.

I've complained about this a few times already LMAO but all of the sort of self aggrandizing that the show is doing about ~ReMoVing the SuBTExT~ is so hollow to me when you sit down and watch the show and realize the "subtext" they meant was to say THEY FUCK and not THEY ARE IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER. It reduces love to being about sex in a way that's so just, honestly tacky and disappointing and so out of sync with what I see in the novels.

Like where's the sensuality and heat and fuck-me-eyes and steamy blood sharing and casual intimacy? Don't just show me Sam's ass in the pilot in a scene that's arguably dubcon. Don't sell your show as a romance when the most genuine interaction between them was 2 seconds from Claudia's POV.

I think there's a lot of telling and not showing going on; I spent the entire first episode not sure what Louis sees in him aside from the mind gifting & coercion, because they made the choice to montage their courtship and not show us the romance. The second episode Louis had to literally say like 5 times "He was enthralling" voiced over scenes of abuse and coercion. Third episode is infidelity drama with Louis's puppydog eyes going "Aren't I enough?" and like ?? Where does this even come from? Do they even like each other lol.

Plus with all the confusing exposition about why are we doing a second interview that scene when Daniel plays the tape at him is so ??? THEYRE THE SAME PICTURE LOL. It ruins the argument that they look worse/more frigid because of Louis's POV. They're telling us out loud that Louis is portraying Lestat as his soulmate, that's the story we're supposed to be getting? But he's still coming off like a complete asshole? This confused me so much.

Enjoy the toxic ship as much as you want but I just, don't see the horniness personally. Louis has been abused to an honestly unreasonable degree, and they used such real-world tropes to show us that it doesn't feel like fantastical vampire drama, especially when they've made such a point in anchoring his character into his race. Everyone had a problem with the violence in episode 5 but doesn't seem to care about the insincere gift-giving in episode 6, when that's JUST as realistic to real life abuse. But what I've learned from this fandom is that abuse isn't real unless someone hits you lol but that's not my business.

(Let's also not get into how the abuse in Episode 6 was also largely directed at Claudia but that's another story.)

I just don't get it like, we know from Hannibal, from Tony Soprano, from Walter White, from Dexter, that you can have fun with a bad guy, you can still enjoy when he gets what's coming to him, you can cheer for him through the badness. They had Lestat there already and oversold it, imo. He was already so petty and abusive and poorly behaved and it would've made sense that they rise up against him. They just oversold it so hard in a way that's just so uncomfortable (real world uncomfortable) outside of genre convention and just isn't all that fun to watch tbh. And they've made Louis such a sad sack it's just, so hard to watch him go through this. I think if he had a shred of agency it would feel more like it was in his own power and I'm just not really getting that from the story they're telling us and it's honestly just so fucking depressing.

And all that and it's like, not even sexy idk. Like if you're having fun and it gets you off, please enjoy! I just think it's being beaten over the head, like it was already so abusive via the gaslighting and whatnot and that type of CHEMISTRY is something I really enjoy in toxic ships hahaha but it's just like, so unrelenting and it's hard to enjoy when we never get to see them just loving each other.

Like, when Lestat is inevitably murdered and Louis has to deal with the guilt and grief of it, what is he even going to be grieving? With Paul they made the point to let us see their relationship so we understand what he lost, and with Lestat? idk. It'll be more of the voiceover going "He was all I knew" without like, letting us enjoy that on screen while it's still here.

gmmtv randomized shipping wheel pt.3

here's part 3 folks, this time I included 15 couples bc I can't stop spinning the wheel lol :') as always I put the 100+ gmmtv actors on a virtual spinning wheel & used it to create brand new random ships!

this time I decided to only include one ship per actor in each part, because the wheel loves putting pond & mix with everyone lmao, so I will include their other ships in part 4 & 5 lol. the pairings are presented in order still, though!

NAMTAN X AUN

hmmm... my first instinct is to say "I don't see it", but actually I could see them being one of those random gmmtv side couples they scrapped together, and I'm sure they'd do a good enough job bc they're both good actors. 3/10

I... don't see it at all lol, but in a way a ship with these two would remind me of jan's ship with an older guy in the upcoming loveless society, so... it's not egregious to think about either. as a side side ship, I wouldn't mind them. 4/10

lmaooooo, I ain't mad at this but also don't see it at all :') marc & pond are both pretty boys I love and they're both good enough actors, so they'd probably make it work, but when I try imagining it... it looks a bit awkward innit 💀 4/10

now THAT is random af :'))) I honestly don't know what to say bc for one we've never seen mix in another pairing than earthmix (unless you count him being cute with phuwin in futs), and pepper is still a very new actor who hasn't gotten a pairing yet either, so I can't picture them together. I guess visually they would look kinda good, but I can't imagine what their acting would be like, 5/10

okay so i am going to assume that this is asking me to explain what used to be a crack ship between Behemo and Seth (rather than explain an alternate universe where the two of them get along well enough to be doing coke in a bathroom together), which will get a bit long so yeah

i'm gonna be honest. i started shipping* these two because we were going through the standard yearly 'why plagiarism is bad' section of the school year, and they began occupying a non-standard amount of my brain. then i figured it would be funny to put them together. so here is my incomplete manifesto on dragonmask** supremacy.

[* it's less about them as a romantic ship, and more about them as a compelling duo. sometimes, bitches just be silly

** i'm gonna be honest, i do not remember where this name came from. i think i just saw someone use it on tumblr one day, and then it became part of my brain. but yeah that name is not my creation.]

Reason 1: They are funny

what can i say, they're funny. Behemo canonically stepped on Seth, which is something i don't think a lot of ships have going for them, in terms of canon interactions.

also they really hate each other, but it doesn't feel like some surface-level hatred. it feels like divorce hatred. and that dynamic appeals to me.

Reason 2: They have good chemistry

obviously, i'm not saying that they get along well. rather, they get along in a way that is interesting to the audience.

thing is, they don't really get much interaction, aside from the scene in the hellish yard, which is pretty entertaining tbh. however, it's the way they talk about each other that seems really interesting to me.

for instance, this part from OSS:C, when Seth talks about his creation of Meta

And this, surely, would be a great enterprise on par with the “god creator of mankind’s bodies, Behemo” himself! My “old friend”’s face came to mind. Ha ha…That one would surely be stomping his feet in a rage if he knew about this!

i may be seeing things from a braindead fandom perspective, but it kinda seems like Seth is talking about Behemo with a bit of admiration.

like, yeah, they're antagonistic, but that first paragraph seems like Seth is putting Behemo as somewhere "above" him, seeing them as someone who is more accomplished, but still someone he can surpass. and idk that dynamic seems kinda interesting.

now, obviously, there's the wording of "old friend" (in quotations, even) that is, again, sarcastic and antagonizing, but ultimately still putting them as (vaguely) equals.

furthermore, it's the specific word he uses: friend.

Seth talks about his "friends" as people who can understand him. this theme of understanding (or lack thereof) will be part of another section.

and then, yeah, there's the last paragraph where Seth laughs at the thought of pissing Behemo off to the point that they'd be stomping their feet in rage. little does he know, in approximately 600 years, Behemo would indeed be stomping their feet (on him)

now, on Behemo's end, we also have this part from Fifth, Pierrot

he wasn’t going to tolerate those low quality copies of that creepy mask man mingling among humans, his very own creations.

i'm gonna be honest, there is nothing romantic here, and again, i don't plan on always interpreting these two as romantic. i just think their dynamic is interesting.

come on, tell me it isn't interesting when two people hate each other's guts, but are still incredibly similar.

Reason 3: They are incredibly similar

so let's go over the surface-level stuff first:

incredibly arrogant (for good reason)

creators of men (with varying skill)

one funky eye

looking at things from a christian perspective*, one could say that these two really exemplify the meaning of Pride. to be Prideful is to think yourself on the level of God, to assume that you are somehow exempt from the rules he enforces.

[* i go to a catholic school, and we have fucking christianity class. the past four months, we have been learning how to judge morality in a """christian way""" like what the fuck is that???? we really gotta LEARN in a SCHOOL how to judge right and wrong??????? that said, i am nothing if not a pleasure to have in class, and i am getting full marks in morality lesson.]

based on memory (because i have no intention of reading through the whole series again just for a duo manifesto), these two have the most iconic declarations of themselves as gods

“I’m a god. Gods are special cases.”

In that case— I am the god who creates “evil”.

obviously, these aren't the only times characters in evillious have declared themselves gods, but they're easily some of the most memorable, and the most often referenced in fanfiction.

also, there's just something So Interesting about a dynamic where one of the few things we know about is the fact that, at one point, one of them committed theft of intellectual property of another.

i know plagiarism is awful and all that, but it really does make for an interesting story. the theft of what one has dedicated their life to, and all that.

anyway, the funky eye. that's more of an aesthetic thing, but they do have a sort of theme of knowing more than other characters, of being the one manipulating things behind the scenes. one could say that their theme of one funky eye implies their role as the one who sees* all.**

[* "see" as in "knowing more"

* "all" as in "whatever goes on in a certain arc" (that is, OSS and mothy arcs for Seth and Behemo respectively)]

Reason 4: The deeper stuff (oh my god how did i write so much)

they are fake

they are lonely

something i like to think about is the fact that Seth wasn't able to create "perfect" humans. when he tried to make ghoul children and artificial bodies, they would eventually age rapidly, while the humans Behemo made would age normally. for all Seth talks about being a genius, even after years of study, he really cannot get on Behemo's level of human creation.

but the thing is, Seth really is a physicist second to none. he may dabble in creating humans, but it isn't really his field. just as Seth cannot create humans that age normally, Behemo cannot make a spaceship traverse dimensions.

........i mean, they sure came close that one time, but that was less "crossing dimensions" and more "turning digital stuff into reality"

hey, didn't Seth also do a poor copy of Behemo's actions?

and on that topic of copying, the two of them are incredibly "fake" characters. many of the evillious characters are liars, but these two are possibly among the few that are defined by the various "facades" they put on.

it's very hard to analyze Behemo's character without analyzing their queerness. whether one interprets them as a trans woman or a gnc cis man, the fact remains that Behemo's conflicts with other people--usually because they are looked down upon for wearing dresses--are a major theme in almost all of their appearances.

the thing is, Behemo never says anything about their own gender, usually letting others out them as amab, except for that "I'm a man" in The Tailor of Enbizaka. but going back to that novel, Behemo lived for fourteen years as a woman. their actions say one thing, but their words say another.

and here's the thing: in my media-addled trans brain, this willingness to let others assume whatever they want about their own nature is, in itself, a sort of facade. are they a gnc man or a trans woman? there's no reason to say anything.

but in my trans brain, i do know that, sometimes, it's easier to be avoided as gnc than to be openly trans. to me, it's the sort of facade that you make subconsciously. if people are gonna think you're weird, you'd rather not be more open than necessary.

and there's another thing, Behemo's facade of being emotional and "chaotic." don't get me wrong, i don't thing this one is intentional, but it does feel like the sort of "tee hee i'm silly and chaotic and there's nothing more to me :3c" thing* that the people here go crazy for.

[* i wish more evillious fans would give Behemo the Maya Fey Ace Attorney treatment, where we see a character who's definitely meant to be silly and kinda sad (but mostly just silly) and then we proceed to analyze the different tragedies that they have gone through and allow them access to the full range of human emotions rather than just "tee hee :3c" and "One Moment of sadness"]

i do feel like Behemo is naturally a silly sort of person, but i do find it a bit uninteresting how people tend to delegate them to the basic "chaos gremlin" role. but i do also feel like this character archetype was an intentional move on mothy's part.

in the scene in the mothy novel, when Behemo reveals both their true identity as the Master of the Heavenly Yard, and the truth of the First Period to Allen, i think that's the most genuine Behemo we're ever shown. in other appearances, they're either plotting something (Fifth, Pierrot) or watching in the background while everything goes wrong (OSS, The Tailor of Enbizaka).

in the mothy novel, we learn about their past, about their origins as an avatar, about the first and second periods, but not about how they feel about that whole mess. the information we get is objective, 'this' and 'that' and 'then', but while this tells us about Behemo's story, it gives us not much about their character.

now, back to Seth Twiright, because this was supposed to be a post about them as a duo, and not just a Behemo Insanity post. sorry for loving Behemo Barisol with all my heart. as if it's my fault they're such a compelling character.

Seth is an easy character to see as a liar. after all, the snake always wears a mask. throughout the OSS:C novel, Seth lies about his name, about his intentions, about pretty much everything.

Seth is meant to parallel the original liar, the Serpent of Eden, who tempted Eve into the Original Sin, and caused the downfall of humanity, instilling in us the subconscious attraction to evil.

except, that last part is the one that feels accurate to evillious canon, that attraction to evil (concupiscence, if my christianity notes are to be believed) would be Malice or HERS in evillious.

in evillious, the one who tempted Eve through deceit is Adam, meaning that it's Adam who has that parallel to the Serpent of Eden.

now, according to my notebook (sidenote: this is legit the most i've looked at my christianity notes on sin since i wrote them down), Eve's Original Sin was an "abuse of freedom" because she "desired to be like God (Pride)."

now, applying this to the evillious Original Sin makes absolutely zero sense. in evillious canon, the Original Sin is the stealing of the two fruits, Hansel and Gretel, and not the abuse of one's freedom in an attempt to defy God.

however, this context on the christian perspective on Original Sin leads to my point regarding Seth: he's not responsible for as many 'Evils' as he paints himself as. Seth is not a parallel to the Serpent of Eden.

now, obviously, this is because i am a good note taker who goes to a catholic school, and i am analyzing something written by a non-christian, but it's not my fault that, according to my notes, Seth Twiright's parallels to the Serpent of Eden are mostly in the "snake" and "source of sin" thing, and in fact, he parallels the biblical Eve more than he parallels the damn snake.

so where does that leave Seth? on one hand, there's what the author clearly intended. on the other, there are my detailed notes on our teacher's discussion on Original Sin and also the unintentional implications of mothy's worldbuilding.

Eve released the Original Sin, which was then divided into Seven Sins. however, the reason for the sad state of the world isn't so much that Original Sin, but rather the Malice that embedded itself so deeply in all the people with the power to change the world.

this all culminates to a certain point: Seth is not the great "Evil" he claims to be, or even seems to think he is. Seth isn't so much a "cause" as a "source".

so what is Seth? a fake creator of men. a fake Horus. a fake father. a fake human. a demon who never does his job. a fake Serpent of Eden.

Seth is a fake, a superficial stand-in for evillious' equivalent for the Serpent of Eden. he's a villain, and a Demon, and a redeemed father-figure for three feral children. but in the end, the true "Evil" was humanity's desire, and Seth was just as blind as the rest of evillious' long cast list.

wow, that got way longer than i had anticipated or planned for. the trans shit? the Eve shit? not part of my original plan for this section oh my god what possessed me to write all that.

anyway, the next point, they are both lonely.

lots of characters are pretty solitary, but i do believe that these two, in particular, are very strongly shaped by their loneliness.

i know i've been starting each section by analyzing Behemo first (because they're my favorite <3), but this time i gotta analyze Seth first. it's easier this way.

so. Seth Twiright. pretty lonely guy. in Outlaw and Lychgate, he even says that people can never understand what he is thinking. in the same section he does this, he namedrops Adam, Irina, Eve, Ma, and Lich as people who could have understood him, as potential "friends".

note: Behemo is not mentioned in this section. this is because mothy doesn't see the potential. (this statement is a joke. i would never dream of seriously saying what an author should have done with their work. but i will die on the hill that Behemo and Seth would be an amazing duo, if Behemo were more fleshed out.)

anyway, in OSS:C, Seth says this

“Evil” is like a virus. It spreads, it infects—and tries to make “friends”.

for Seth, to be a "friend" is to be "Evil", to be able to understand him.

but the most important part of Seth's characterization is exactly that: no one can understand him, and so, no one can be his friend.

now, i do believe this is his own fault. in Outlaw and Lychgate, Seth uses the specific wording of "telling what he is thinking."

this is impossible. obviously, he's not saying that he wants a friend who would be able to read his mind, but it's still impossible for someone to always understand your intentions, your feelings, and your wants.

Banica Concerto!! talks about "her friends and 'him'," implying that, even as they travel through space on a food trip without a destination, Seth continues to hold people at arm's length because he feels that he cannot connect with them properly.

that feeling of alienation, of never being able to connect with others, it's something that a lot of us know. i mean, this is the evillious fandom, after all. but aside from that, it's also a sentiment that is experienced by many queer youth.

and so, the truth of my love for Behemo Barisol finally comes to light: i found myself relating to them the moment i finished listening to Barisol's Child is an Only Child.

and that's the thing, Behemo's experiences are, as i like to say, the unfortunately realistic trans experience. even if Behemo acts like it doesn't happen, the fact of the matter is that there will always be that something that makes them different from other people, something that makes it hard to connect.

be it their dressing habits, their queerness, or even the basic fact that they come from a different world.

that, i believe, is the core of my Duo Manifesto. that shared feeling of alienation, of being impossible to relate to. they are lonely. they are fucked up. they can't find anyone to relate to, and they won't end up relating to each other any time soon, but wouldn't it be nice to have someone who understands your loneliness?
