Okay as someone who just finished watching Banana Fish

The parallels between that and The Case Files of Jeweler Richard are sO MANY!

1. A sexy blonde man with inner turmoil befriends (and seduced by) a black haired Japanese man.

2. Both individuals of both couples are stated to be “from two completely different worlds” and, thus, are told they should just abandon the other and live their life normally.

3. They don’t.

4. “I’d go to the ends of the Earth to make sure you’re safe.”

5. All makes promises to stay friends (or lovers) until the end of time.

6. The Japanese men were both used at some point as “bait” to lure out the blondies.

On the one hand, I would love if TCFOJR was slice of life slow burn with episodic mysteries and fun facts about minerals, that is absolutely my jam

On the other hand, it’s hard to enjoy when we’ve been queerbaited so often we don’t know if it’s slow burn or just bait

Got to say The Case Files of Jeweler Ricahrd is hitting the Holmes Waston dynamic and actually the general what makes Sherlock Holmes appeal to me vibe better than Kabukichou Sherlock did. TCFoJR is a bit quiet and comforting and feels familiar in the right way. Kabukichou's sense of humor just wasn't my bag and so I never really got past the first couple of episodes. But I think that makes a lot of sense because part of what drew me to Sherlock Holmes as a very small child was the mystery aspect and also the relationship between Holmes and Watson. Holmes’ mood swings and intellect were also factors as well, but it’s nice to have something with the Holmes Watson dynamic that isn’t getting into the mental instability and self-medication through drug abuse angles, though I do kind of want a modern take on Holmes possible bipolar-related disorder since so many adaptations/inspirations/AUs just jump to the drugs and skip that relatable aspect. I mean I know we’ve got Granada Holmes and I do enjoy it but I want to see someone go for it, you know?
