When Callum passes, one of the birds from his funeral rites flies to Rayla and nestles onto her shoulder. It stays with her in the months (or years) that follow, greeting her every morning, singing to her, comforting her in times of sadness.
It’s his way of watching over her, even when he’s gone.

Miscellaneous Amaya and Sarai headcanons:
Amaya and Sarai constantly caused trouble as kids. Sarai was better at not getting caught, which gave adults the mistaken impression that she was the responsible one.
Sarai was bisexual. She and Amaya had similar taste in women, but Amaya did not understand Sarai's taste in men at all.
Sarai left to join the military as soon as she was old enough. She joined partly out of idealism, partly because the family needed money and the military paid well. Amaya felt abandoned and was furious at Sarai for going. It was the first and only time they fought.
Amaya didn't answer the first three letters Sarai sent after enlisting. It took a long time for her to forgive her sister for leaving.
By the time Amaya followed her sister into the army, Sarai had taught Katolis Sign Language to everyone willing to learn. Amaya and the other new recruits had fun using KSL to secretly talk shit about the officers.
Amaya took a long time to warm up to Sarai's first husband. She felt like the two of them rushed into marriage. Once Callum came along and she saw how much Sarai's husband loved their child, she changed her mind.
Amaya and Sarai taught Callum KSL together. The first word Callum signed was "more" in a request for more hugs.

Helloo I was wondering if you could do fluff headcanons or maybe a scenario where The reader was Aaravos old love then the reader gets reincarnated and thry reunite?
I hope this isn't too much I just really need more x reader content of him :)) =] thank you..!!!
Aww 🥹💔
Tumblr media
The last time he saw you, the grays and wrinkles did not diminish your beauty.
Then he saw you again, an ambitious mage eager to make a name for themselves
Just when he gets the chance to know you more, the age and toil of magic is already taking a toll on you.
Then your a monarch. A warrior. A simple village person.
But you still carry yourself just the same and he can recognize your voice and being. And it makes his heart leap to see or hear you.
The life of an elf is but an eternity, but your life is in the blink of an eye.
Still, Aaravos took you for the walks you and him both enjoyed decades ago. Your meetings are short lived but he always treasures them.
And that’s how it was for as long as Fate could allow him.

I thought about the idea of Gren and Amaya being mentors for Corvus on the breach and now it’s consuming me btw
Imagine if you will. Fourteen year old Corvus. Commoner kid taken in to a shady military cadet training program. He’s passed off as older and sent to the Breach to work under Gren. Gren is like woah this kid is definitely not seventeen. And Amaya absolutely destroys the program head for it but can’t send Corvus back to the program, so the breach just sort of like. Adopts him and he does odd jobs.
Either he learns to play cello there from one of the soldiers in his free time, or he already knew a little bit and he gets practice playing when the soldiers have small parties to keep spirits up. He doesn’t talk much but he’s fond of the Breach.

Is Redfeather Etharis mother?
I just read the new short story about Rayla in Scumport, where we were introduced to this wonderful new MILF character, Redfeather:
Tumblr media
Some things we learned about her:
She’s a moonshadow elf
She has matted messy hair
She has pale markings and likely has a darker complexion (“like shining leather”)
She was ghosted about 15+ years ago
She doesn’t regret the thing(s) she was ghosted for
Now 15+ years ago doesn’t place her at any important events that we know of yet. Rayla would’ve been 0-2 years old at the time, so it probably doesn’t connect to her. The whole ordeal with Sarai getting killed by Avizandum happened about 10-12 years prior, so it couldn’t be connected to that.
But you know who would’ve been in a very interesting age back then?
Ethari and Runaan
Ethari and Runaan were once referred to as “uncle-ish” age, which the show runners have clarified means somewhere between 30-35 years old. That means Ethari and Runaan would’ve been 15-20 years old at the time when Redfeather got ghosted by her village. And as we all know, 15-20 is the perfect age for fictional characters to get traumatized✨
One theory I had was that she was somehow involved with the assassins (target? Former assassin? Who knows) and that her crime, which somehow affected a younger Runaan, got her ghosted. But that is a theory for another time.
What caught my attention first was the specifics of her description.
Pale markings and “leather colored”(darker) skin
When it comes to the colors of markings, moonshadow elves tend to have very deep or even dark blue/purple markings. Ethari is the only moonshadow elf we’ve encountered till now who has significantly lighter, or paler, lavender colored markings amongst moonshadow elves.
Tumblr media
This means that Redfeather having specifically PALE markings would be significant, if the paleness is referring to the color.
Another point is the eyes
While Redfeathers and Etharis face’s aren’t THAT similar, the eyes very much ARE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at that shape! Look at the lashes! Look at the curved lower lids! If this doesn’t mean anything, then this would be one heck of a coincidence for eyes to be drawn THAT similarly.
Another reason I like this theory isn’t just because of looks and appearances, but also because it could explain a bit about Etharis behavior regarding ghosting family members and strong feelings about abandonment.
See, when Rayla first comes back to the Silvergrove, one of the first things he says to is:
“They’re gone Rayla. He’s gone. Because you abandoned them.”
And later on, when he briefly lifted the ghosting spell to talk to Rayla, he says again:
“But I don’t understand, how could you abandon them like that?”
On a similar note, in the novel the bloodmoon huntress, when Runaan realizes that Kim’Dael is out there, there isn’t even a question about wether or not Ethari is coming along; he said right away “I’m coming with you”. He was NOT gonna stay- or be left behind. It’s like he has some very deep rooted issues surrounding abandonment, and being left behind. Maybe because his mother had to leave him when he was young? Or maybe pertaining to the crime she committed, where she left someone behind and surrendered them to their doom? Who knows…
And yet, for someone who has such strong feelings about someone being left behind, he was very quick to ghost Rayla. Yes he regrets it, and yes it was a decision made with feelings and grief and not his sound and sensible mind. But regardless of how much he regrets it now, he still ghosted her for “abandoning her team (and Runaan)”, and he seemed very sure of that choice at first.
If we looked at him as a regular person, a godfather who loved and cherished his goddaughter, and had raised her since the age of 8, this behavior doesn’t make any sense!
But if we look at him as someone who’s had to do it before, someone who had to learn long ago that family ties don’t excuse crimes, and that sometimes you need to cut out and ghost those closest to you - like say, your own mother-, well then it makes sense why he was able to do that to his goddaughter, even if he regretted it later…
——
And a final point close this whole theory off, though it is more of a meta textual point:
Ethari rarely gets talked about by the creators of the show. He was maybe mentioned here and there in the past, and on Twitter Aaron Ehazs promised that they hadn’t forgotten about Ruthari. So any mention of him that actually includes his name and something other than „he’s Runaans husband/Raylas substitute dad“ is pretty special and rare to find outside of the graphic novel Bloodmoon huntress . But in this new short story, he wasn’t just mentioned by name; he was specifically described along with his profession, his crafting.
Tumblr media
And the first time that Ethari gets mentioned again outside of the bloodmoon huntress is when a new Moonshadow elf with eyes almost identical to his gets introduced.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
talking about this arrow with @mynewgroove and we had a bunch of fun thoughts:
Ethari potentially made the flower Queen Aanya wears on her necklace
Ethari makes magic arrows
Ethari likes gemstones
Ethari likes putting swirlies on his work
Ethari potentially made this arrow specifically for Queen Aanya
Does this mean Ethari could be in Duren? Maybe he delivers his wares anywhere, but I had a wilder headcanon - yes, from a single arrow shot by a young queen, I do what I want:
Without Runaan, Ethari had no archer to trick out with cool arrows
Without Rayla, Ethari had no one to be dad to
Aanya could fulfill both of those roles for him
Without any of the moonfam left in his life anymore, Ethari might have no ties to the Silvergrove, and might want to get away/move on to be less sad and more useful somewhere else
If he had a connection, however tenuous, to Aanya's family, he could've eventually sought her out
"it seems you're a parent without a child, and I'm a child without a parent. let's just begin"
How did Aanya get so skilled at archery, anyway?
Maybe Runaan taught her, so she could defend herself better
She is a lot like him - cool under pressure, annoyed by small talk, excellent archer, familiar with assassination techniques, entirely unimpressed with Viren
reviving my ancient "Runaan spared Aanya and took a shine to her" headcanon
because I'm soft for Runaan being soft for stabby defiant little girls
and now I'm adding "of course Ethari went to Aanya, she's the only family he has left"
as well as the apples being a metaphor for humanity itself but
Tumblr media
because the birthday story about him said he counted time in candles burned down and easily reformed, its not that far of a jump to say the other comparisons he uses are also things he does
What kind of magic does the Jailer use, and what is her connection to the Key of Aaravos?
I have thought for a while that perhaps the Jailer is neither a primal nor a dark magic user, and that she utilized the Key of Aaravos to serve an important role in his imprisonment. Now, there isn't a lot of overt evidence for my hypothesis here; this is a ramble of pure speculation. I'm going to do my best to present the dialogue and canon-consistent logic to support my thoughts. Here goes:
The prevailing opinion in Xadia is that "human magic" is akin to trickery and sleight of hand. When confronted with Callum's claim of being a primal mage in 5x07, Nyx dismisses his boast reflexively: “I’ve seen ‘human magic.’ Fake ropes, false doors, birds and rabbits stuffed into clothing.” To her, it's common knowledge that humans can't use real primal magic, and her derisive attitude shows she doesn't have much respect for human magic either. As for dark magic, Nyx doesn't even mention it at all; as Lujanne said in 2x01, "we do not call that practice magic. It's an atrocity."
But human magic has one more specialty: creating and solving puzzles. The mechanical devices and riddles guarding the secrets in Kpp'ar's labyrinthine house and the rock-stone puzzle hiding the staircase to Viren's dungeon are story-significant examples of the types of innovations created by human magic. In 1x03, Ezran solves the rock-stone puzzle to reveal the staircase hiding Viren's dungeon. Callum answers the riddle posed by Rex Igneous in 4x08, "having knowledge isn't knowing knowledge…. He has a map!"
So neither a primal mage nor a dark mage would resort to puzzles and riddles, the gimmicks used by magic-less humans. So let's now consider the Jailer.
During the post-season four Discord Q&A, Aaron Ehasz states that the Jailer is a "mastermind of prisons and puzzles."
In episode 5x05, Archmage Akiyu tells the story of how she met the Jailer and introduces her as "a human mage." Akiyu goes on to explain:
"The archdragons had given the Jailer a daunting task, to design a magical prison that could hold a Startouch Elf. She needed my powers to craft the prison itself." (emphasis mine).
It stands to reason that a competent dark mage, with the notoreity to catch the attention of the archdragons, could bring that kind of power into her grasp on her own. So why would the Jailer seek out the powers of primal archmage, unless she couldn't wield that power herself? Furthermore, knowing the prejudice that the archdragons hold against dark magic--all of humanity was driven out of Xadia for refusing to forswear its use--I don't believe the archdragons would ever condone cooperating with a dark mage, even to quell an existential crisis like a demi-god bent on world destruction.
Akiyu tells us one more intriguing thing that the Jailer said:
"'The puzzle is the real prison,' she told me with a proud smile," (again, emphasis mine)
There's another word besides "magic" that we can use to describe the practice of creating and solving puzzles: cryptography; the art and science of creating and breaking codes and ciphers. The terms code and cipher are often used interchangeably, but their meanings are technically different. Basically, a code uses arbitrary substitutions while a cipher uses an algorithm.
Now, if you wish to solve a puzzle, you're going to need all the pieces - and if you wish to solve a cipher or code, you're going to need a key.
Tumblr media
More than one use has been hinted at for the Key of Aaravos. We've heard Rayla refer to it several times as a toy and a game piece (1x04, 2x07). In the book two novelization, Callum notices that the Key left marks on the ground that appeared to point toward Xadia (we get a glimpse of those lines in early episode 2x07). In 4x07, we get suspiciously up-close framing of the Key when Callum asks, "is there no primal gem for star magic?"
And a few months back, one of the TDP creators shared on Twitter about a season 6 scene that was eventually cut. In the scene, Callum holds the Key up to a symbol on a wall and says, "I'm gleaming the cube!" (if anyone remembers this twitter convo and can provide me a link to this, I would be so grateful)
This is the Key feature we're all most familiar with: its glow. When exposed to a source of magic, the corresponding primal magic symbol on the Key lights up. This is why I think one of the potential functions of the Key of Aaravos is as a cryptographic key. If it were held up to a magic-infused symbol, the glow effect would reveal the primal magic source - and in this way it could be used to decode a secret message.
In cryptography, a key is the series of words, symbols or phrases that contain all of the basic information you need to decode or understand a specific coded message. Both the sender and receiver of the coded message need to know the key in order to create the coded message or decode it into plaintext - to lock or unlock the meaning behind a cipher or code.
I can't speculate on the exact nature of the secrets that she encrypted with it, but the Key can literally shed light on the solution! It was a toy that was repurposed by a the Jailer, magicless human mage and mastermind of ciphers and codes, to protect the secrets of Aaravos and his prison.
Exactly what secrets it will be used to reveal remains part of the Mystery.
Me (lying to myself): "Of course this isn't just a pointless Twin Peaks reference for the sake of reference, this element has to have an in-universe meaning. This part of the dream is about Viren's wildest desires for control, things Viren himself knows are delusional and foolish. The curtains and the lights are red, symbolising violence or desire. So either Viren fantasies about Opeli stroking his wood or they did have an affair and she had an abortion regardless of Viren's wishes, and he helped her in it, performing the spell himself, because this way would be painless for her and he knew it was best for everyone, but it's still a memory that stays with them both. The writers have obviously thought this through."
My all time favorite: whenever Rayla sees a crack or a step in the castle (or a puddle), she overdramatically feigns helplessness so that Callum would bridal carry her.
“Oh no! A great big puddle! I couldn’t possibly make it across!”
“Rayla, I once saw you backflip over an eight-foot tree man.”
“Ach, ya want me tah be your princess, dontcha? Princesses can’t go walkin’ through puddles. Now catch me ‘fore I swoon.”
“Well… if My Lady insists…”
This tag has been rlly dry recent, so I'd like to contribute to our beloved sparkly man.
Super random Headcanons (sfw & nsfw) below (warning: might be OOC):
SFW:
His love language? Definitely quality time (giving & receiving) & physical touch
Just imagine reading a book with him, or his teaching you some spells <33 (can't u tell I'm a whore for quality time?).
Braiding & doing his hairstyle <33 Aaravos loves it when his S/O touches him, it makes him feel relax and forget his problems, even if it's just a short while
(I just wanna run my hands to his hair )
I feel like he's pretty good at drawing, to specific, water coloring. Like, have u seen the way he moves his hands? He has the precision for it!
Nickames he'd give to his partner/s: star, starlight, love, my dear (i feel like I'm missing a few more)
He also has the biggest bisexual energy in the show (asides from Harrow lmaoo)
NSFW Oness:
He's def a switch, although he leans on the dom side of things
I have no idea how elves genitalia works/look like, but he does have big 🍆 energy
His tongue isn't just for telling half truths 😏 (I'll let you fill in the gaps)
Grab his horns or hair while he's doing it and he would let out the prettiest moan ever
If he's subby, i feel like he's a brat sub (like he's such a tease fr fr. Weirdly enough, it reminds me of that time where the viewers & Viren 1st see him)
Anyways that's all, thank you for reading my (partially down bad) headcanons of him! I hope you stay hydrated & drink your meds (if u have 1)!
(EDIT: OMG TYSM FOR THE 50+ LIKES, I ADDED EXTRA HCS FOR PURPLE GLITTER MAN <33)
NSFW:
It may not be obvious at first, but he enjoys a little bit of pain (if yk yk~)
Just not too much or it'll ruin his mood
Also on the topic of kinks, i feel like he doesn't like being restrained or blindfolded
Although it would be a pretty sight
Like he's probably left in that same spot in the mirror for centuries,
It makes him feel helpless, and he hates it.
A weirdly specific one is that If you're someone who's fem, or AFAB, I feel like he has a fantasy of being pegged. (Although he has yet to bring this up since he knows that pegging isn't for everyone.)
SFW:
Remember the watercolor hc before?
Yea let's elaborate that.
So imagine him teaching u how to paint with watercolor!
Or or!
Even better, if you know different medium, you could paint each other's portraits<33
(kicking & twirling my hair rnn)
I feel like Aaravos also wear a little bit of make up, to be more specific, eye makeup
He'd definitely ace a perfect wing.
This isn't rlly a headcannon, but what shade of lipstick do u think will fit him? (If not lipstick, other lip makeup)
Extra head cannons!
Study dates! Study dates with him!! (*Shakes you like a bag of fries*)
He has a lot of good study tips for uuu
Like he's been studying spells and learning the 6 primal sources for most of his life (probably)
But also he would be observant of your limits
Like homeboy would know your about to have a breakdown before you will.
A wee bit on the angst side of things:
On the topic of arguments
I feel like he would be stubborn on his side of the fight
Like he would be sooo eager to prove that his right
That he might blatantly ignore your side
Although after the argument peaked and both of you decided to give each other space
That's the time where the argument plays in his mind
And where the pieces internally click
Regarding apologizing, of he's the one who's in the wrong, I feel like he'd apologize first.
But if he's the one on the right, he'll probably wait for you to heal up and apologize 1st.
Okai, back to normal hcs!!
Imagine doing each others make-up!
Him doing your eyeliner
You doing his lips make up
(Try not to kiss Aaravos challenge: Impossible)
Random topic about kids (idk, angsty ig?)
I feel like he'd be on the fence about having kids
While yes, he loves you with all of his dark heart
I think he'd have second thoughts about having them, since, yk
He's THE archmage Aaravos
He def has a lot of enemies up his arse
And this is just a specific hc
But I feel like he's afraid that he'll be betrayed by his own kin
Glitter man definitely has some trust issues
It took him a while to warm up to you as a person, and even a longer time as a lover
So perhaps give him some time about the matter,
He might change his mind...
... But only time will tell.
Aaravos's prison
I think I know where/what Aaravos's prison is
(MAJOR spoilers for season 5)
((ps this is my first post/theory so I'm sorry if it's a mess))
In episode 9 (of season 5 oc) we see a large statue of Aaravos and the Jailer, well I think that's actually him, and the magic pearl(?) is his soul, he's basically trapped in both mind and body.
we've seen characters turn to stone before, ie Avizandum, and a lot in promotional things, and even the new intro with Viren who ends up dying this season, so this could be a hint.
in ep 4 in the bookery the poem they'er looking at says 'Laureloin was no more' But they also call the startouch immortal and undying, Callum just assumes 'no more' means death, but what if it's nothing else? Say separating a soul/consciousness from a body? Aaravos seems to project his consciousness and consciousness throughout the seasons (and Viren's in the 5th) when he's in his ghosty spectral form, something I assume that's star magic because it doesn't fit the other arcanum accept maybe moon.
arguable the best evidence for this is what happened to Janai's grandmother "I swallowed her" so this man either fork and knife ate her, shrunk her, or his actually body is big enough where he can just do that.
and as I said before about imagery, this season stepped it up A LOT, and during promotions we see a lot of Aaravos holding, and puppeteering characters, maybe another hint?
if Aarvos is actually that big, that would kinda make sense in the scale of the world. What I mean is, there's some animals/creatures that are just MASSIVE, I understand it being a fantasy, but when I first saw the size of arch dragons I was like ???, but if the world was originally made by startouch elves the sizes make sense, the hermit crab Sealegs, the amblers (the big camel animal thing in the desert episode season 3 ep 5) would be to scale if they really are that massive
also if you follow the dragon prince on instagram (maybe on twitter too? idk don't have it) on their website they'll post short stories, one centered around Aaravos implies his fall to Xaida made The Lake of Outcast, and if that's true, the impact of something that big would make a big crater and name make a lot of sense.
also less of evidence but maybe not? a while ago, before the character charts where released someone in a panel said Aaravos was the biggest character, there was a meme going around that he's bigger than Avizandum, but what if he actually is?
as for the pearl being his soul, the only thing I really got is separating the soul from the body making him 'no more' and the fact when he does magic his eyes are white and iridescent like pearls are.
So what does that mean in the future? Hopefully an epic final battle, but also I have a few predictions. The next step the crew is going to take is going after the Novablade/Starscraper, I think it's literally going to be a massive sword. And going a little off the rails a little bit, I love the idea that only a startouch elf can wield it because of its size, but that could be wishful thinking, I'd love a startouch to join the crew, maybe the Jailor?? (give me more startouch lore)
anyways tell me if you have any rebuttals, evidence, or more thoughts!
How are primal stones made?
So, in honor of Aaron Ehasz asking that question on Twitter, and me giving my two cents there, I thought I’d share it here too. (Original tweet below)
I originally drew this up on paper a while ago, and it describes the mechanics of how a primal stone might work.
Tumblr media
Basically, you need a strong source of concentrated primal magic and deep magic to strike on the same point.
Then, while the primal magic keeps hitting the same point, the deep magic has to wrap around the primal magic, forming a sphere.
There where the two magics meet, a crystallisation occurs. The crystallisation is mainly deep magic, but it’s constantly pushing inwards/growing inwards. At the same time, the primal magic is constantly pushing outwards/grinding away at the inner walls of the primal stone.
So it’s a case of constant erosion+growth and unstoppable force meets immovable object combined into one.
It’s quite complicated, and seems very difficult to do, which would fit with what Aaron said in another reply to his post anout mages dying trying to make a primal stone:
