my rrverse takes:

magnus is an underrated character in his own series

lester/apollo and magnus were BY far the funniest narrators

i didn't like jason's death but it was necessary and it made sense

i actually liked meg, she had a great storyline and she wasn't annoying

piper was queer from the beginning

with enough training hazel could probably be stronger than percy and jason

percy would end jason in a fight in two seconds flat

reyna, samirah, and hazel are the most badass rrverse women ever

i love toa but if i had to choose i would rather have five mcga books and three toa books

fierrochase and zarter are the most underrated ships in the fandom im right

mcga had HUGE potential as a series and rick def could have done more with it and added more books but didn't and i am very mad about that

rick's representation is very flawed both in poc's and lgbtq characters

(the feather in the hair, the food skin color descriptions, the fact that the only three latinx/hispanic characters come from abusive backgrounds, making leo call calypso "mamacita" in tdp, giving poc characters inherently non poc traits (hazels hair and eyes and pipers eyes), having samirah's hair out of her hijab at some points, making anubis white (biggie on that one), making his only book series with two mixed race main characters have three books instead of five)

(the genderfluid shapeshifter trope, outing nico and giving him the most trauma out of the seven but "hey it's okay because he gets a boyfriend", giving leo a girlfriend when he was very obviously into jason (and even then he didn't need to date anyone i really like the head canon that he is aro), making a slur of sorts for alex and having multiple main characters say it, making his only book series with a very openly queer main character (alex but also magnus at the end) have three books instead of five)

leo did NOT need to get a girlfriend, he should have stayed single as it was better for his character development

tj needs more recognition in the fandom i love him

annabeth was def one of the more powerful of the seven even though she didn't have powers and a lot of the people that hate her are just misogynistic (as well as piper)

My next gen kids in order from left to right (top to bottom): 

Rae: the second oldest, Rayla and Callum’s son (he/him), and short for Raeven (a traditional Moonshadow name). He’s quieter like his father, a bit more of a worrywart, and follows in his father’s footsteps to become a mage (probably Sky and Moon only). He’s 2-3 years older than his sister, Juni, and is often pulled along on her schemes. Age for reference: 20. 

Juni: Rayla and Callum’s daughter (she/her). She’s more mischievous (they swear she gets it from her uncle) and prefers being a warrior to magic or studying. She isn’t connected to any arcanum, so she has no Moonshadow form, and eventually joins the reformed Dragonguard. Age for reference: 18

Sarai II: Claudia and Ezran’s firstborn daughter (she/her) and crown princess of Katolis. Sarai takes her responsibilities as princess seriously, but she’s drawn much more to the untold world of lost magic and history. Nothing too dark - her mother makes sure of that - but you never know. Age: 16

Daryen: Claudia and Ezran’s second child (he/him) and Sarai’s little brother. Like his cousin Rae he’s quieter, and loves to garden with his mother and foster his father’s connection to animals. He’s a bit more snappish and serious, and is prone to doing his own thing (and not just because he’s the baby). Age: 12

Arya: The oldest, Soren’s daughter and twin sister to Brenley. She’s a skill warrior like her father but isn’t sure if she wants to stay in Katolis or travel elsewhere (and greatly admires Queen Aanya of Duren). She loves pulling pranks with her sister and they get along famously. Age: 22

Brenley: or Bren for short, Soren’s daughter and twin sister to Arya. Despite being the oldest, the twins aren’t the most responsible, and Bren in particular can be pretty clumsy. She’s also not the brightest, but is extremely loyal and a great cook. Age: 22

Personality:

Well, before her trauma, she was pretty carefree. Nice and friendly, if a bit naive at times. Very much an extrovert, happy to meet new people, loved to wander and explore. Climbing trees was always a hobby, as a way to feel closer to the skywings with wings and to feel closer to the sky in general. A bit of an impulsive streak and had a knack for being reckless, very much a romantic too.

And then...the incident occurred.

That left her far more withdrawn and apathetic. Not nearly as boisterous, she barely speaks unless spoken to. Naïveté got swept under and killed, replaced with a more skeptic heart and distrusting nature. And while apathetic...not heartless. Despite it all, kindness never left her, and she continues to be nice and treat others with respect. The only times she really lashes out anymore is if she’s become panicked over something.

Background:

Hoo boi, yay for traumatising my poor characters!!

For the most part, had a normal Skywing life in a normal Skywing village. It was closer to the border than most, but still Nova had a safe, happy childhood with her mother and father and younger brother. It was only when she turned 18 that things turned troubling.

She wanted her freedom, like any other Skywing, so when she was an adult she took her leave, going off to the nearest coast and settling there. That was when she started seeing the human boats. They never came ashore, but they were always in the distance, and it freaked her out, but she was also insanely curious. That was when one did come ashore. She inspected while hiding herself in the trees as she followed them around, there was only one person, a man around her age. But he seemed to be looking for something, a flower of some kind. She figured out quickly enough that he was studying the flora and fauna of Xadia as a whole, but he was particularly interested in the luna blooms. Discreetly, Nova helped him out, secretly helping guide him along until she fell from her tree accidentally and met him face to face. The man was...nice, surprisingly. She found out his name was Dorian, she continued helping him while also getting to know him for a year and during this time, fell in love. She wanted to be with him, Dorian wanted the same, so she took off with him on his ship, back to the island he called home.

It was a big mistake on her part. Not at first, though she knew to keep hidden from other humans, Dorian remained kind and helped her explore in her own right. But after a few months, he changed, got more unhinged and possessive, trying to stop Nova from leaving the house at all, until eventually his true colors were revealed. And they were nasty. He put her in chains in the basement of his home, ranting and raving that yes he loved her, but for them to truly be together, she had to be human. She had a pure soul but it was stuck in the body of a filthy elf. So, he ‘helped’ her. And of course by help I mean brutally tortured her physically for two years, bleaching her skin to a white, more human, look. Cutting her horns off, and removing the pointy parts of her ears and forcing them to grow to the more humanly short rounded ears. When she looked decently human is when he let her out of the basement, but still kept her confined to the house. Her escape was pure luck, one of his guests took pity on her (figuring she was human) and helped arrange a boat for her escape. Which she took, sailed back to Xadia and never, ever, looked back towards the human lands ever again.

Many elves still mistake her for being human after all that’s been done to her, she tries to part her hair so others can see the shorn off place where her horns used to be so they know she’s not. She travels like a ghost now, looking for healer after healer to fix her, make her look at least somewhat like herself again.

She’s an Earthblood, but is super friendly with humans! She has long black hair but has the earth blood twin braids near her ears, who chi are green. She’s super chipper and extroverted, as well as kind and outdoorsy. She’s a little pretentious and proud because of her powerful earth blood skills. She got her lightning scars when she was a kid after an accident where she angered a sky elf. She’s 15 right now, and a lesbian!

Hey, youre an awesome writer/author. I was wondering if I could ask for a little advice. writing used to be an integral hobby of mine, but now when I try I find myself struggling with severe anxiety. I cant even work on pieces i dont plan on sharing with anyone. do you have any suggestions for breaking back into it and getting some words down?

I get variations on this question often enough that there are several sitting in my inbox I still haven't managed to get to. I never quite know how to respond.

The hard truth, Anon, is that I'm struggling with that exact thing. I'm disabled and depressed and dealing with all the chaos of the world, and it makes it hard to do much of anything, much less write. I average maybe one productive day of writing every couple weeks, no matter how much I try to force myself to work.

I used to fill notebooks. I used to write every spare minute I had. I never didn't have a notebook on me. But as I got older, and everything started going haywire, I lost that, because I had to channel all of that energy into just...surviving. I don't have an inspirational "here's how I beat it and became the world's most productive writer!" story, because I struggle with it every single day.

But I do have some things that make it just a little easier:

Talk about your writing. Make picrews of your characters, tell your friends about the scene you're working on, post snippets of your stuff on your blog, whatever sounds fun to you. I want SO BADLY to share my excitement about my characters with people, but writing is so goddamn hard. So talk about your writing. Even if you don't finish the story or it changes or it never really goes anywhere at all, talk about it, share it, and enjoy it. I struggle with it a lot, because I'm a horrid little perfectionist gremlin who is convinced everything I write is garbage, but goddammit, the only way to get over that is just to...do it.

So I do. I cringe and I get anxious and I talk to my friends about how shitty I feel about myself, but I do it, and I try very hard to listen to them when they remind me that depression is a liar.

Indulge yourself. Make playlists, make Pinterest inspiration boards, make art, put together moodboards. Play. Do goofy fandom stuff for your own OCs, even if nobody else gets it. Jazz yourself up and fall in love with the world you've created.

Don't make "writer" part of your core identity. That was my fuckup. I internalized the idea that I'm a writer, and writers have to write, so days when I can't write? I feel like I'm failing as a person. I'm struggling every single day to unpack that and undo that damage, and it's hard as hell. All humans have the innate drive to tell stories and share our experiences. It's a part of who we are.

Every human is a storyteller--when you tell your friends about your day, when you share a funny anecdote with a coworker, when you post on tumblr about your cat, you're telling stories and weaving words.

You're a storyteller by sheer nature of being human, which means it's impossible to "fail" as one. That's what I hold in my heart to get me through the rough times.

And, more than anything, don't cut yourself off from other media. I have a nasty little habit of getting stuck in a spiral where I feel guilty for consuming media when I haven't produced "enough" of my own. What "enough" is, my anxiety refuses to tell me. So not only do I not create, I don't consume, either--which means I'm not filling the creative tanks.

I gave in and let my best friend convince me to watch The Dragon Prince on Netflix recently, and the only way I can describe it is like...you know when you're dehydrated and take a big gulp of nice cold water, and you can kinda feel your brain re-inflate? It felt like that. I felt inspired to make notes and doodle and invest more energy into writing again. I had a solid few days after finishing TDP where I wrote quite a bit. So you gotta remember to fill those creative tanks.

Don't just consume your favorites over and over--find new stuff. Enjoy it. Talk about it. Revel in it. Let it inspire you and give you fun new ideas of your own.

And when all else fails, I like to go watch a marathon of Overly Sarcastic Productions' Trope Talk videos. It gets me thinking about stories that I like, why I like them, and what kind of twists I'd like to see in them. Which almost always gets me writing again.

So yeah. I don't have all the answers, but...that's what I do to help. I hope you find it useful, Anon. Be well. <3

Physical Description (anything not covered by the picrew): Aislyn has dark, blue-black hair that cascades across her shoulders in long, thick curls, and near-glowing violet eyes. Her skin is dark, and her cheeks and nose are speckled with bright, almost star-like freckles. Her fashion sense is elaborate, regal, and timeless, and she tends to dress in light, cool colors.

Personality: Aislyn is a deity of Magic, Dreams, Birth, Fae, Passion, Vengeance, Healing, Agriculture, and the Stars. She is benevolent and regal, but also has quite a temper. She’s highly protective of those she believes fall under her domain, and she acts more solitary and “godly” than her brother. She’s generally disinclined to travel, preferring to remain home and tend to a small garden she keeps. However, if approached, she’s calm and kind, and willingly gives boons to those who are brave enough to ask.

Background: Aislyn insists that because she is a goddess, her background doesn't matter. Presently, she lives in a small, magic cottage, which is primarily located on the Floating Isles of Criccieth, but can be found anywhere it is needed.

Abilities and Proficiencies: Aislyn is, first and foremost, a mage, capable of most feats of magic. The specifics of her abilities are very soft, and vary from thread to thread, honestly.

Affiliations: Quinlan Eira (Sibling, Not on good terms), Asra Wavewalker (Frenemies), Lorelei (Leader of Pantheon, though more of a sister)

Verses:

       Major Deity. Main-verse Aislyn took well to the transition from muse to deity, but has grown more proud, reserved, and commanding in that time.

       Muse. Aislyn was more carefree in this timeframe, more inclined to travel, and often wandered through people's dreams just because she could.

       Mortal. Mortal Aislyn is just as serious as her full-deity self, but is much more bookish, and is actually more inclined to travel purely for more magic techniques and spells to study.

       TDP. I mean, all that really changes here is that she's a startouch elf, and that she's connected to five of the six primal sources- she can't seem to figure out the ocean arcanum quite yet. She lives deep in the woods in any verse with her as an elf.
