There's a little au that lives in my brain where Ursa took the kids after Azulon's death and fled to Ba Sing Se where Ozai couldn't reach her. She was surprised and terrified to find that Iroh was still there, blending into the crowd too. Except it turns out he didn't want to go back either.
So they all went and lived together in his tea shop and nothing overly dramatic happened -- until it did. :DD

i feel like maul would get into tea because the perfectionism and theatre of good tea making would appeal to his inner neurotic thespian. he would also just enjoy flavors, after knowing food scarcity. a small 6oz cup is probably the right rate of hydration for him post lotho minor, on fuckin repeat all day of course, so i imagine he picked the habit up naturally.

ATLA in Thai high school au
Tumblr media
Iroh opened a boba tea shop near the school with Suki and Sokka, who just had gotten together, as his regular customers. While Zuko, his nephew, just wanted to read manga in peace.
(no scar! zuko but he got very poor eyesights instead 😔)

Note
what is your Lee and Kya AU based off of ATLA
I've always been a little bit obsessed with Zuko's journey through the Earth Kingdom in Book Two, especially the time he (and the Gaang) spent in Ba Sing Se. The city, the people, the Dai Li, the conflicts... Everything is amazing. I love Jet's arc, and I never get tired of seeing Zuko (however briefly) feel happy and complete with a humble life.
There's beauty to the simplicity of life, and I'd like to explore that with ZK.
Book Two AUs will always be my go-to. From reluctant-travelling-partners to Bluetara-in-Ba Sing Se—I love all of it, so it's only natural the Lee and Kya from the Tea Shop AU came to exist.
The AU itself is only a bunch of scenes in my head so far. Of all my AUs, it's one of the most focused on the vibes and characters than the plot itself. That's not to say there's not a story involved. It's just not my main focus.
It's one of the most common Book Two AUs ever. Zuko and Katara are separated from their companions, find each other and travel together to Ba Sing Se, learning how to work together and falling in love along the way. Nothing new there, except for a few scarce scenes that are so precious to me and, by extension, to the AU itself.
They get help from Uncle Iroh and the White Lotus to get to Ba Sing Se, but they go alone (he'll eventually join them, just not for a long while). No Uncle Iroh = no Jasmine Dragon = more time in the Lower Ring.
There's also a lot more of Jet (and his antagonistic, one sided crush on both Kya and Lee), and possibly some spy/informant work for the White Lotus. Also short hair Zutara because we need more of that.
For some reason, Katara isn't searching for the rest of the Gaang (maybe she believes them dead, or perhaps they were forced to leave her behind at the Swamp and her deeply ingrained abandonment issues resurfaced).
Zuko is Tired with a capital T. Tired of the war, tired of trying, tired of everything.
Uncle Iroh is off on some obscure White Lotus business, and he trusts them both enough to draw them into the Order and ask for their help.
So, a little drama, some spy shenanigans, and lots of fluff.

Iroh would be such an awful role model for Azula. And I don’t mean “Dragon of the West Iroh,” I mean “redeemed Iroh.”

Okay, so the idea of Katara and Zuko eloping is adorable. We love it. BUT what if instead of eloping, they gathered their friends for a party and SURPRISE! It's actually their wedding! Someone write that for me. Pleeeease????🥺

i wanna talk about iroh’s “four seasons” and why it’s used as the musical motif for sokka & yue
i’ve seen a few different videos/theories about why this song is used for sokka & yue, but none of them matched my personal thoughts, so i figure i’ll just share them. it’s a stretch in regards to what the writers were probably intending, i admit, but it’s how i’ve always interpreted it
winter, spring, summer and fall (x2)
four seasons, four loves
four seasons, for love
the lyrics have Always reminded me of the japanese idiom 一期一会 (ichi-go ichi-e), which is usually translated to something like “one season, one meeting” or “for this time only.” it’s like a reminder that every moment happens only once, and you should cherish the moment and the memory, for it cannot be repeated.
the analogy: four seasons is to one season as four loves is to one meeting
Tumblr media
why have iroh sing the song first?
the idiom is heavily tied to japanese tea ceremonies; the fire nation is partially inspired by japanese culture, and iroh is characterized by tea. also it’s just the kind of sentiment iroh would appreciate.
and then we have sokka and yue, whose relationship is brief but unforgettable. within a span of what i assume is a few weeks, they meet, fall in love, and then tragically part
Tumblr media
one could look at what happened to them as only a tragedy, and i imagine sokka probably does for a little while, but in time i feel he would learn to love and cherish the time he had with yue for what it was—that he would simply be glad for having met her and having gotten to know her. and of course he’ll always love the moon for its reminder of the time they had together.
it reminds me a lot of that post by @/starpeace:
the love was there. it didn’t change anything. it didn’t save anyone. there were just too many forces against it. but it still matters that the love was there
one season, one meeting—it doesn’t matter that it was just for a short period of time. this one of sokka’s many seasons will always have been for his love for yue

Back with some Mulan audios and my boy Lu Ten because we are gonna love him.
I love but hate how we didn’t get to see much of him but I like he does not feel forced. I’ll give them that.
Im a fan that think Lu Ten was also like his father but at the same time a war criminal. Much like a between on Zuko and Azula.
I use this audio to introduce an OC, Tao. Tao is an advisor to Ozai in general terms and is most likely in the war reporting to him, also a reason not to bother Ozai lmao. It's obnoxious but Iroh remains calm.

An older Tea Shop Au doodle that I still like -- kind of the spiritual successor to this one.
in case it's not readable, Iroh is saying: "Oh, Lala! There you are; your mother is looking for you"

Thinking about the possibility of Iroh potentially having served so much of his life (at least since his early 20s? Even younger??) on the battlefield outside of the Fire Nation that, after Lu Ten’s death and Iroh’s spirit journey, he began feeling how distant he was with his home, and just started caring less and less about being there (which also ties in with his depression post Lu Ten and Ba Sing Se loss)
