The Impact Of Significant Technological Advancement On Gen-Z Individuals

People today interact more on multiple media platforms as a result of the significant expansion of technology and varied media over the previous decades, and because of that, each generation has developed distinct preferences when it comes to communication, whether it's through a certain medium, frequency, or at a given speed. As a result, understanding the best approach to connecting with others in cross-generational settings is critical.

Generation Z grew up with social media and, as a result of the environment they were nurtured in, they have acquired certain qualities. 

According to the Pew Research Center, those brought into the world after 1997 have spent most of their life in front of screens, which has resulted in distinct communication preferences. According to a research conducted by cloud mobile solutions business LivePerson, 66% of Generation Z prefer to connect online rather than in person.

How Gen Z’s Are Changing The World

In an article by Jamie Belinne that was published on community.naceweb.org, she claims that Generation Z is guiding the rest of us into the future because they are collaborative communicators, are adept at using social media, and have a more inclusive perspective. 

Collaborative Communicators:

Year 2018, Belinne conducted a study of more than 1,600 college students, representing the socioeconomic and racial variety of the US population. When asked if they preferred working independently or in teams, 58 percent responded that they would rather to spend the bulk of their time working in a group where each member actively contributes to attaining the goal.

She asserts that Gen Z is really more inclined than their Millennial brethren to desire in-person gatherings. According to a recent article in Bloomberg Businessweek titled "Millennials Tried to Kill the American Mall, But Gen Z Might Save It," the younger generation is once again actively interacting at malls and other physical locations. While they are in a group, they may be messaging one another, yet they are still quite sociable! 

In terms of seeing and quickly adjusting to internet trends, Gen Z is really good. While marketing professionals may study social media, for Generation Z it has always been a part of daily life.

Social Media Expertise:

The Gen Z generation is exceptionally skilled at spotting internet trends and quickly adjusting to them. Social media may be studied by marketing professionals, but for Generation Z, it has always been a part of daily life. You'll never catch up on your own; it's preferable to just hire a group of young people to advise you where to go and what to do online. 

Visual communication dominates social media, with spoken communication declining dramatically. Future success will be largely dependent on your capacity for visual communication. Despite our best efforts to argue that the younger generation is "too indolent" to read, the majority of "older folks" won't read this far since there are so few photos compared to the number of words in the text.

Inclusive Mindsets:

According to Belinne, Gen Z actively embraces diversity, making it the most varied generation ever. As part of this, one must accept linguistic variations resulting from diverse cultural, social, and national contexts. Since their generation valued diversity, they will alter their communicating and understanding to suit the preferences of those around them.

Gen Z might be dubbed "TrueGen" because of their desire to share their own convictions while understanding and engaging with others through varied perspectives, according to a McKinsey report on Gen Z just published in Brazil. In conflict situations, they are more likely to open the door to tough dialogues and to being receptive to opposing viewpoints.

Belinne also said that Gen Z's communication is significantly different compared to older generations, but She believe that their way of communicating has many advantages that we should embrace.

Technology's Detrimental Consequences on Generation Z

Many of us have seen how great Gen Z is, yet they also have many shortcomings since they are also individuals and fall short of perfection.

According to a fashionguiding.com article, Gen Z is particularly worried about their capacity for interpersonal communication and relationship-building. They may be aware that their social skills, such as communication and critical thinking, are lacking and that technology has had a detrimental influence on the development of their cognitive abilities.

Hannah Ledrick asserts that generation Z is lacking in interpersonal and communication abilities. She also mentioned that a lot of time and effort is spent on having our social media appear a certain way, particularly now that COVID-19 is still around. They place a filter on our lives, making it difficult for Gen Z to distinguish between reality and the made-up lifestyles they see online and leading our true difficulties to get lost in communication.

As a result, certain members of generation Z do actually possess lower levels of social skills than other members of the generation since they engage in more visual communication across various media platforms.
