#ted and keeley's frequent paralleling of each other
Text
Okay, so I said I would do a post about Jamie, Keeley & Roy and growth, (im)maturity, accountability, double standards in the fandom and all that shit, but then, oops, I started watching Schitt's Creek, lmao, and now I won't have time to do this before the next episode airs, which probably will give me new things to think about anyways, so I'll just do a full on analysis of anything Jamie, Keeley & Roy during my rewatch between season 2 and 3.
But there is this one thing I noticed and need to get off my chest, and that I hope will be addressed in the last two episodes: The show usually is pretty good at pointing out bullying and presenting it as wrong (Jamie bullying Nate and Sam in season 1, Nate bullying Colin and Will in this season). But when Roy mocks Jamie and has him repeat that he is an ugly ugly boy etc. it is played as a joke and no one holds him accountable for it, even though it is super fucked up if you really think about it. Roy basically abuses his power as his coach to humiliate Jamie - it is childish enough that at that time he probably has ignored Jamie for weeks. Roy is a grown-ass man, like 14 years older than Jamie, and really shouldn't be acting so goddamn immature.
Anyways, when Jamie realizes what's happening, that Roy looked through him and is mocking him, he still begrudgingly plays along, since he truly wants Roy's help. And after "Man City" it just hurts watching the scene, since being treated like this must be something Jamie is painfully used to. And the way Roy gradually gets closer to Jamie, stepping into his personal space is—while being different in tone and overall demeanor—still eerily similar to the way James Tartt sr gets into Jamie's face in "Man City".
(And I'm pretty sure that James Tartt sr called him more than once a pussy for caring about his looks, since he probably sees it as soft and unmanly. And probably gay. Since vanity is a frequent trait used to queer code characters, but that is a whole different conversation.)
And when Jamie gets rightfully pissed and yells at Roy, Roy tries to initiate a physical fight (again: the same way James Tartt sr shoved Jamie—it reminds me of the parallel between Ted yelling at Jamie in "Two Aces" and James Tartt sr yelling at Jamie in "The Hope That Kills You". That has to be a deliberate choice!).
Ted is completely right to tell Roy, that Jamie is the mature one, and Ted doesn't even know what provoked their fight. Roy's audacity to say, that Jamie refuses to stop being an arsehole! ARGH! At no point does Roy acknowledge, that he did wrong and mocked Jamie to get a kick out of it, when Jamie, you know, just wanted to built bridges.
And the whole "Deep down, at your core, you're a prick" line ... Don't even get me started on that.  While Roy didn't know the full extent of the abuse that Jamie suffered through his father, he DID KNOW that Jamie had been acting like a prick because his dad had called him out for being too "soft". That this had been the reason for Jamie to become "tough" and "dominant". But he probably just dismissed it, like everything else hinting at Jamie not being  a complete piece of shit. Roy seems unwilling to change anything about the image he has constructed of Jamie in his head, even though Jamie has obviously changed and everyone else is able to see it.
Only when Roy sees Jamie with his father this image shatters and he sees Jamie for the broken boy he is. He finally has to realize that what he believed about Jamie was wrong. That deep down, at his core, Jamie isn't a prick. And in hindsight he probably realized that what he said and did in "The Signal" was not okay.
And that is why I really need some interaction between them, something, goddammit, where Roy acknowledges he was wrong about Jamie! Because the thing that everyone loves about Roy and Keeley is them admitting to mistakes and being accountable to each other. And so pretty please just let Roy admit his mistakes and be accountable to Jamie too.
Jamie just needs someone to tell him, "the way I treated you wasn't right and I'm sorry. you deserve better. deep down you are a good person." Because he needs positive reenforcement and while his confession to Keeley was about her seeing potential in him becoming a good person, it sounds a lot like he doesn't believe that right now he is already good enough to be loved. That he is worthy of love and respect, now and not at some ominous point in the future.
Now this got longer and more rambling than planned, but I have a very soft spot for one sexy baby.

Yuletide 2021
Hello! I am misantlery on ao3.
Under the read more are specific details about what I want for Ted Lasso, Gigli RPF, Mad Men, What If...Zombies?!, Hustlers, Dune (2021).
General Likes
PINING, awkwardness, people being inexplicably fond of each other, breaking up/making up fic, people being emotionally repressed, denial, FORCED INTIMACY (pretending to be dating, bed sharing, huddling for warmth, trapped in elevator/closet/room together), amnesia fic, first times, hurt/comfort, trust issues, hooker aus, robot aus, happily ever afters.
I am good with g-rated or nc-17 rated fic, but if you’re comfortable writing porn here are some things I am into:
bad decision sex sexual experimentation fun/goofy/‘bad’ sex sex pollen intimacy issues
General Dislikes
rape/non con, alpha/beta/omega dynamics, mundane aus, soulmate marks aus, 24/7 BDSM, non canonical major character death, harm to animals, unhappy endings, mpreg, issuefic [fic focused on sexuality/identity issues], harm to children.
If you want to know some more about what i’m into for each fandom/want some prompts, then keep reading but don’t stress about following each prompt to the letter or anything. They’re here for inspiration!
Ted Lasso: Rebecca, Ted, Keeley Ted Lasso feels like everything I need these past two years. It’s funny and heartwarming and I love how much the characters genuinely love each other and make each other laugh. The show is very much an “I love everyone in this bar” situation (except for Rupert. Fuck that guy) so I’ll genuinely love anything you’ll write. That said, I would really love any of the following: While I do love everyone, I gotta say that I really enjoy how well the show writes female characters. I love how Rebecca’s quest for revenge evolved and how she ultimately ended up letting it go, and the Keeley and Rebecca friendship was great and supportive and never catty. So you can write another night out where they go celebrate another Richmond win. Throw in Sassy or have Rebecca sing again (maybe a duet?). When it comes to Rebecca and Keeley, I’m so into how frequently they’re in awe of each other. And how Keeley seems like she’s one step away from pushing Rebecca onto the couch and eating her out half the time. So I would love something like that. Or Rebecca taking Keeley to an event as her friend date and realizing she wants more than that. Or hey, let them invade France!! Literally or figuratively. What would they be getting up to during the Purge? What kind of fun crimes would they commit? Seems like the perfect time to kill Rupert! Speaking of killing Rupert, if you want to ignore literally all the other prompts and write me something where the whole Richmond ensemble teams up to Murder on the Orient Express him, I would not complain. I’m also really into Ted/Rebecca and I really enjoy the parallels of how terrible Rupert is versus how supportive Ted is of all things Rebecca. This season it kind of seemed like they were dealing with their own stuff on parallel tracks. I’d like to see them brought together and make them actually talk about things. Maybe Rebecca tries to date someone again after breaking things off with Sam. Make him a handsome coach from a rival team who’s perfectly nice and charming and yet Ted can’t seem to figure out why he can’t stand the guy. But the Diamond Dogs know why. A tiny thread from S1 I loved was how Ted would talk about people seeing him in their dreams and him seeing them in his. So give me some dreamsharing with Ted visiting Rebecca in her dreams to say hi or her getting pulled into his accidentally and being thrown by it!
Gigli RPF: Ben Affleck (Gigli RPF), Jennifer "JLO" Lopez (Gigli RPF) TRUE LOVE LIVES! Note: if they break up in the next couple of months, feel free to ignore it. That said, true love lives! I love OG Bennifer because it reminds me of simpler times! Their pap walks truly bring me a lot of joy. :D On a slightly serious note, I love stories about exes reconnecting, second chances, trying again, what brings people back together, etc. I also love exploring change and time as a theme: the ways people change or fail to do so in each other's absences. I am primarily interested in present day-set fic but if you want to write a fic following them through the years or moving back and forth between 2002 and present day, I'd feel extremely lucky! Prompts: - five times fic: five times they didn't get back together and one time they did. - slice of life/a day in the life of A-list power couple Bennifer. - for some reason, they have to make a Gigli sequel! - Genghis Khan MV AU. Feel free to go wild with this prompt. - they totally got back together for publicity and some exes-with-benefits thing but then FEELINGS and TRUE LOVE. - AU where JLO played Batman. Maybe instead of Gigli they make a movie where she plays Batman and he plays Catwoman? - I love forced proximity tropes and I love bodyswap, so I would love to see it with this pairing. Maybe to combine it a bit with the prompt about JLO playing Batman: they bodyswap while Ben is in the middle of shooting Batman v Superman or Justice League and she ends up playing Batman in his body! Critics call it "a career-best performance from Affleck." He finally gets that acting Oscar. - honestly, if you want to write PWP, I'd be 100% on board.
Mad Men: Bob Benson, Pete Campbell This is probably my forever yuletide fandom! The show’s been over for a while now, but I still have an enormous soft spot for the love story of Bob and Pete, and would read any number of variations on it. I don’t mind if you ignore certain parts of canon (s7) or go canon divergent, you can also follow canon if want (Bob shows up in Wichita??) GO WILD. Shipping Bob/Pete began as a joke for me, but I do ship it for real. I like that Bob is all *_________* about Pete and Pete is simultaneously disgusted and intrigued. He might not be gay, but he’s definitely into someone who’s into him. Also, if you just want to write about Bob I’d be really interested in his past and what the whole “manservant” deal was. We pretty much know nothing about him and I’d be interested in some backstory, but I’m not exactly looking for Bob/OMC PWP. In case it seemed that way! btw, https://vimeo.com/132033248 is a supercut of all Bob/Pete scenes (pw: kneetouching). Enjoy! Prompts: Fake dating: The CEO of a big company is secretly gay and Pete thinks pretending to be gay will form a bond of solidarity that will give him an edge, but the CEO mistakes this for interest and Pete scrambles to come up with an excuse to get out of doing anything gay and he comes up with, “I have a lover! You may have met him…” They go to a gay bar lolz and awkwardness ensue. Pete molds Bob into the Perfect Ad Man and falls for him in the process. Basically “My Fair Lady” with a hillbilly and sodomy. Groundhog day fic: Pete has to go through the same day again and again, tries to get help from Ken, Peggy, etc, and then comes to the realization that only Bob believes him. Bob is a conman who starts out trying to seduce Pete as part of a long con, but ends up falling in love. What if Bob is a spy who mistakes Pete for his contact because Pete compliments his tie? what kind of spy and mistaken identity shenanigans could ensue? What if Bob and Pete + the Purge??? (Please see my previous letters for why I am strangely compelled by adding the Purge to assorted canons.) I feel like Bob would do well. He’s got secrets. Maybe one of those secrets is a facility with weaponry. Also, sodomy wasn’t legal in New York until the 1980s. What if someone in the office awkwardly asks Bob what he’s going to do during the Purge and Pete is appalled, because how uncouth! Everyone knows you don’t ask people what they’re going to do during the Purge! And then Bob makes some veiled comment about how he always spends his Purges banging dudes, and Pete is horribly Intrigued because sex stuff is never a Purge thing he’d thought of. Sex pollen! Maybe Pete tries to sell a perfume that turns out to have sexy properties and Bob tries to help and hilarity, porn and sexy shame ensue. I love California Pete and the stupid little sweater he has over his shoulders and just his whole vibe in general. I would love to see Bob meet California Pete and struggle to figure out the right tack to take with this version of him. Would Pete going in for a hug blow Bob's entire mind??? The more ridiculous you can go with this the better!
What If...Zombies?!: Zombie Wanda, Vision
If you had told me a year ago that I was going to spend half of this year wallowing in Wanda/Vision feels, I'd have wandered away worried that I was going to be abducted by aliens or something. Now I just want more content of the two of them together or I'll set something on fire. WandaVision laid a ton of groundwork, and then this freaking cartoon happened and pushed all my they're-so-insane-about-each-other buttons. I think I described it to a friend of mine as, "Remember that time Wanda couldn't accept that Vision was dead and took a whole town hostage and it was kinda fucked up? Yeah, Vision's worse." I would really love something that explores how Wanda and Vision ended up with him trying to take care of the zombified version of her because he can't let her go. Up to and including feeding people to her just to keep this last piece of her alive, just to find some way for them to keep going until he can find a cure, and what it's like for him when she's both too powerful for him to beat and too far gone to cooperate with his research into restoring her. Alternately, what is her point of view like as a zombie? We know from the episode that she'll fight him to keep him from trying to cure her, but she won't hurt or kill him. We know that she's able to break loose and command the full power of the Mind Stone and her magic to attack and eat whenever she wants, but that she seems to hang around Camp Lehigh, letting him restrain her and feed her. And we know that even as a zombie, she was cognizant of what it was/what it meant when he died, and super upset about it. So how does she feel? What does she think? What can she remember, and how does that affect her? I have less than zero idea how you'd fix the situation of Wanda's a zombie and Vision's killed himself by tearing the Mind Stone out of his head, but if you have ideas on how to fix it, I'm really curious to see that. Or, going the other way, if you're into the idea of something very sad and very, very dark involving Zombie Wanda trying to take care of Vision's corpse like he took care of her while she tries, in her own zombie way, to get the Mind Stone back so she can fix him, I'd be really into that, too. In a nutshell, what I'm really hoping for here is angst, horror, and OTP feels. :D?
Hustlers: Ramona, Destiny
Oh god, this love story. They grabbed hold of me at “climb in my fur” and they never let go. Ramona keeping Destiny’s photo with her among her most important things even after their breakup so she could still be close to her ;__; I love Ramona’s giant heart and how she’s drawn to take in strays even when it’s clearly going to end up hurting her and how she can’t let go once she’s given Destiny her heart. I love Destiny basically falling in love at first pole dance and the way she asks Elizabeth to tell her how Ramona feels about her and how she spends so much time in denial. They’re so forever hung up on each other. I loved them in their “fuck everyone else, we only need each other” phase and I love them in their bitter breakup angry pining phase.   I would be happy with anything for the two of them! Post-canon fic where they make up and raise their daughters together. Missing scenes during the movie where they realize how far their love goes. Hands on stripper lessons turns into hands in other places. Canon-divergence where they never get caught and expand their business and become cutthroat criminal wives. Maybe it starts as a fake marriage so they can’t be compelled to testify against each other and it ends with them fucking all over their plush apartment. Or what if they decide to go on the run together instead of making a deal? Or they get pulled into someone else’s crime enterprise and have to resentfully work together to get back to their daughters (and end up banging it out in the meantime!). Or Ramona gets in trouble and appears to be dead/hurt/whatever and Destiny goes on a grief/revenge crime rampage against the motherfucker she thinks did it. And then surprise! She’s fine and she’s so shocked that Destiny came back to save her. Really, as long as they're appropriately insane about each other I will be unbelievably happy with anything you write! If you're interested in more out there AUs: I’d love a Purge AU for them! They already do crimes but let’s go full vagenda of manocide and do some some murder on purpose of the absolute shittiest dudes in existence! I also love time loops/groundhog day AUs, so Ramona getting thrown into a loop would be awesome. At first she would see the opportunity to make some money but then she just wants to make things right for Destiny. Maybe she tries to cut her out early to protect her or she tries to make them both go straight and things just keep going wrong.
Dune (2021): Jessica, Leto Atreides I I feel like I should preface this by saying I did like Dune! It was beautifully shot, the score was great, I enjoyed the actors, and most of the way the story played out. They took a book that is really incredibly hard to film and made it into a solid movie. A+, would watch again. Now that I've got that out of the way: I cannot possibly be the only person who was disappointed that the movie wasn't the love story of a magic space nun sent to a handsome duke as part of a long-term plot by her order and then they fall in love. So yeah, I need all the Jessica/Leto backstory fic, please. - How did they meet? What was their relationship like when they met? Did she just show up on his doorstep one day and say, "Hi, I'm here to have your babies"? Or did someone bring her to Caladan and tell Leto, "This is your concubine now, I expect you to return her in good condition" and they had to figure themselves out from there? - Did they dutifully go through the motions of dating and sex and find out they liked each other later? Or did they respectfully avoid one another until it was no longer politically expedient and then found out they liked each other once they were talking? - What is that actual courtship like? Tell me all your thoughts on how space nobles date 8,000 years in the future! They're such a great pairing for some of my favorite tropes, too. Fake dating that turns into real dating, mutual pining, pining while fucking, characters developing feelings for each other against their better judgment, characters being bad at feelings, and obviously, all of the trappings of arranged marriage, even if Jessica and Leto didn't actually marry. I also would not say no to Leto being stoic and nobly suffering from being in love with Jessica and assuming that their situation- paired together by space nuns for breeding purposes- means she couldn't possibly love him, but that may just be because of the mental picture of Oscar Isaac doing it.
