So I could go after a bunch of stuff that irks me in How I Met Your Mother but I wanted to post about some of the major things that bother me and see if I’m crazy or if others resonate the same.
First and most frustrating to me: STELLA. nearly everything about this irked me.
The thing with inviting Robin to the wedding…like, yeah, absolutely valid that you don’t want your future husband’s ex to be there. But why didn’t you say that when making the initial plans? Especially when you know she’s one of his 4 friends. Did you really expect him to not invite her??
The thing with inviting Tony…yes, absolutely I get not wanting him there. But Ted has no legal guardianship over Lucy. What exactly was Ted supposed to do? Take a little girl from her father against his will? That’s kidnapping. He has no legal right to take Lucy away from Tony.
Moving into an apartment in New York with Tony after making a massive point about how ridiculous it would be for her to do something like that with Ted. Like…girly…the man wouldn’t move to New Jersey for his OWN child? Ted was like “you know what, you’re right” but Tony was like “nah give up the house” and that was fine??
Going to Ted to ask him to get Tony back for her…my sister in Christ, what the fuck. What exactly did Tony expect Ted to say about the woman who LEFT HIM AT THE ALTER? Did he expect Ted to still be obsessed with her? And WHY does Stella even want Tony back if the man is willing to break up their family for a SECOND TIME bc a man who Stella hurt is not obsessed with her and thinks she’s selfish? Clearly he wanted the out. Why chase him? AND the fact that she literally only apologizes bc she needs help from him…ugh. That is messed up imo
The movies REALLY irk me. Ted is the man who YOU left at the alter and the man who GOT TONY BACK FOR YOU, but you let this man make him the villain for his movie? You not only divulge private shit that went on between you and Ted, but you also don’t stop him from putting it in a fricking movie?? I get Tony having his warped image of things, fine, but Stella really just let that all go down like that?? She just told Tony every single detail and everything she ever learned about Ted and he put it in a movie. WHY
Ted and Victoria, the second time they get together:
One of my biggest issues with this is that for some reason Ted is the one people blame for the wedding not happening??? As if 1) Victoria wasn’t a whole adult who chose to not tell Ted it was her wedding day before agreeing to meet up with him and bringing a car for them to run away together 2) Victoria’s husband-to-be ALSO ran away from the wedding. He literally also left!!
Even if Ted had brought Victoria back, there wouldn’t have been a wedding. Victoria’s dad blaming Ted and expecting him to pay is so crazy to me.
Another issue I have is with her being pissy that Ted wants her ex-fiancé out of his apartment. It’s not like the dude was normal and super chill. He had an aggressive pet that kept birthing babies and biting AND he didn’t respect boundaries. Like if the dude was just chilling and a normal roommate, I’d get it. But I don’t feel like it was unreasonable for Ted to not want him there — he agreed to let the ex stay with him and had no knowledge of the ferrets or whatever pets the guy had when he suggested it.
My last issue with Victoria is that when Ted is like “if you wanted a bigger commitment, you’d tell me, right?” and she’s like “yeah, I’d be direct.” and then continues to be passive aggressive. The man literally told her “I need you to be direct” and she wouldn’t. All of that on top of her thing about getting back together with him on her wedding day meant he shouldn’t be shocked she wants to get married…babygirl…you didn’t want to get married. You literally ran away at the first opportunity when Ted asked if you wanted to catch up
Ted and The Mother: My main issue with them is that SO quick after being ready to MOVE TO CHICAGO bc he loves Robin, he’s just all good to stay for her? Like suddenly the Robin thing is a non-issue??? Like…bruh??? That just doesn’t track for me at all.
I also take issue with him returning to Robin in the finale and the kids encouraging it. Like idk about yall but wouldn’t it be weird for your dad to admit to saying he was so in love with his best friend’s wife that he was moving but the next day fell for your mom? I feel like I’d be kinda like “okay so was mom a stand in for Robin??? is that what the point of this story was???”
Ted and Barney (Robin and the bro code): I’m pretty sure going after your best friend’s ex-wife is a violation of the bro code if going after your ex-girlfriend is. Like this is the one woman your best friend ever REALLY loved…
Plus…was it not a whole issue of Ted being unable to sleep with a woman because he thought Barney was with her first? But banging the woman Barney was married to and consistently slept with is fine?
There’s definitely more that irks me but these are the main things…anyway. for anyone who made it this far, thanks for reading my rant lol

Ted and Robin (Season 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Josh Radnor and Cobie Smulders as Ted Mosby and Robin Sherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014)
Ted and Robin's relationship begins when they meet in at MacLaren's Pub in Pilot (S1E1). Ted looks at Robin and she looks at him and the chemistry is there from the start. Ted turns to Barney and says, "See that girl, I'm going to marry her someday". Barney uses “Have you met Ted” to introduce him to Robin, the two hit it off, go on one date, and Ted confesses his love. Robin admits in Purple Giraffe (S1E2) that she is interested in him, but does not want marriage or children. They try to remain friends and succeed with Ted showing no further interest until The Pineapple Incident (S1E10), where Ted develops feelings for her again. She also starts to develop feelings for him but not ready to act on in big time.
On New Years Eve Ted's date points out that she can tell he is in love with Robin and that she clearly likes him back. At midnight Robin kisses Ted (The Limo, S1E11). Ted's two friends are getting married, and Ted asks Robin to be his date. She excitingly says yes, and she gets a very nice dress. Ted goes through a lot of trouble to get her into the wedding because he accidentally forgot to check plus one. He gets her in but when her goes to pick her up Robin, receives a phone call asking her to anchor the news. Ted tells her to do it and it works out (The Wedding, S1E12). Ted wanted to be with her until he met Victoria at the wedding.
Robin shows up at the reception and sees Ted lean into kiss Victoria which causes Robin to cry. Robin admitted to Lily she had feelings for Ted (Drumroll, Please , S1E13). The relationship almost went down in flames after Ted cheated on Victoria with Robin while lying to Robin, saying he and Victoria were broken up. (Nothing Good Happens After 2 A.M., S1E18). Later that night Ted and Victoria break up. Robin stops talking to Ted for weeks because he lied to her in an attempt to be with her, even Barney condemns Ted for this move.
However, after months of difficulties, Ted and Robin reunite their friendship, and after she helps him get out of the middle of nowhere to get him to his date with "the one" love solutions found. Ted decides to stand up his date and create a plan to be with Robin (Milk, S1E21). Finally romantically tries to make it rain so she can't go on a date with Sandy Rivers, It does rain, Ted shows up outside her apartment in the pouring rain, she invites him up and they make out. They finally get together and hook up with huge smiles on their faces. He leaves her apartment the next morning with a huge smile on his face, cause he ended up with he girl of his dreams but sees Marshall with his engagement ring to Lily back in his hand. (Come On, S1E22).

omg since ur okay with writing hcs for himym can we get some hcs on ted comforting robin about how her dad used to treat her? i loved the show but i wish they took the shit she dealt with more seriously
awe my heart 🥺 here you go buddy!! I hope you like it :’)
All Robin was trying to do was apply for a graduate program.
She wanted to go to school.
Try and get a higher degree.
Maybe open her up to new job opportunities.
But she was caught in her tracks during her entrance interview.
“To be frank,” the man said,
Clearing his throat,
Setting down her paperwork on the desk in front of him.
“Your resume is fairly disappointing.”
Robin’s heart dropped into her stomach.
Disappointment.
The entire way home, she felt numb,
Her mind racing.
Every previous memory flooded in like a tsunami,
And she couldn’t get her mind off of it.
Her mind was latched.
She knew she wouldn’t be able to escape,
At least for the remainder of the day.
Her thoughts would plague her.
Finally, at home, she sat mindlessly,
A glass of red wine in her lap,
And a mindless, stupid reality show on her TV.
It blandly had her focus -
Images floating across the screen without much notice -
Until her phone rang.
Ted.
Crap.
She was in no state to talk, let alone explain.
But she sighed,
Took a swig of wine,
And clicked ‘accept’.
“Hey!” Robin said, attempting to seem enthusiastic.
There was silence on the other end.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
Robin sighed and fell into her couch,
Fighting back tears.
“Is it that obvious?”
“I just know you.”
Robin closed her eyes.
“What’s going on?”
She could feel the tears welling.
“It’s been a horrible day.”
She heard shuffling on the other end.
“Ted? What--”
“I’m on my way,”
“What?”
She could hear him grunt as he popped on his shoes.
He always did that.
“You clearly aren’t okay.” He said sternly.
Robin’s eyes widened, a tear finally escaping.
“I’m coming to make sure you aren’t alone.”
She felt speechless but managed out one word.
“Really?”
“Of course, I’ll be right there.” He said.
She could tell that he was out of breath,
Scuttling out the door.
Half an hour later, he was there.
He had a box of candy,
(Another) bottle of wine,
And a handful of flowers.
He seemed out of breath at the door,
Offering a meek smile.
She couldn’t believe he went through all of that trouble for her.
Robin burst into tears the moment the thought sank in.
Gently, Ted placed the bags on the coffee table,
Closed the front door,
And pulled her into his arms.
“Hey, hey,” he hushed,
Bringing her head onto his shoulders,
“Hey, it’s okay.”
Faintly, Robin sobbed.
“It’s my Dad,” she mumbled.
Ted’s shoulders sank.
“His words color everything I do.”
She sniffled.
“I hear him everywhere. No matter what I do.”
Ted guided her to the couch,
Easing her to sit down,
Refusing to push her away until she chose.
“He’s wrong. He’s always been wrong.” He assured,
Brushing his fingers through her hair,
Hoping to soothe her.
Robin’s breathing relaxed as she pulled away,
And Ted smiled.
“Don’t laugh at my puffy face,” she said,
Giggling faintly and brushing at her puffy eyes.
“That wasn’t what I was thinking,” he assured,
Brushing some of her hair away from her face.
He turned to him and gave a sad smile,
Before looking at the ground.
“I don’t deserve people like you.”
“You do,” he said softly, “he convinced you that you don’t.”
A final tear fell to the floor,
And Robin took a deep breath.
With a tender smile, Ted patted her shoulder.
“Want some more wine?”
Robin slowly smiled,
“And maybe some of that candy.”
Ted got to his feet with her glass, going to top it up.
Maybe Ted had a point.

A letter to someone I used to know
Dear friend,
I was watching how I met your mother yesterday.  I was on that episode in which Stuart and Claudia get married. There was this whole thing with Ted trying to get a plus one for the wedding because he had already promised Robin and she was looking forward to attending it.
He had put so much effort into ensuring Robin could attend, but she chose her career over it. Granted, she wasn't aware of his efforts, but still.
A little later in that episode, Ted was sitting with Barney and he looked over at Lily and Marshall who were dancing and said that it is supposed to be like them. That it's supposed to be simple and easy. At some point, it has to be easy.
And my dear friend I felt that deep in my heart, right where it hurts. Especially the last sentence. Maybe I was projecting my failed friendship on Ted, but I could sense the emotions behind those words. The longingness to experience what his friends have for himself. The dejection. That despite giving his all and more, he still came short. The exhaustion. Oh god, the exhaustion. So much effort and work that it took. But still a teensy bit of hope that there still might be a chance, just a fraction of possibility.
That was the moment when the fiction merged with real life. It made me think of us and how I have to fight tooth and nail to get some leftovers of love and attention from you.
I don't want to anymore.
There I said it.
Every conversation with you about our friendship and how I feel about my place in your life converts into a fight. I don't know what to do anymore. All I know is that it's exhausting and draining. Every unfinished fight leaves feeling hollowed out.
I always imagined us as a forever. I pictured us at each other's weddings. I pictured us taking trips together with our boyfriends. Living in the same city.  Our children growing up together and becoming best friends.
For me, our friendship was always a choice. Our lives were always tangled together and I agree that it somewhat played a role in our friendship. Nonetheless, I like to believe it was a choice. A choice that we converted into a promise when we turned fifteen.
But I think you always took it as an obligation. You know the type I am talking about. The way we are obliged to be nice to distant relatives who pass personal comments just because they changed our diapers once when were six months old. Or the way we are obliged to say no whenever a relative passes us money.
And if it is indeed an obligation to you, I want to free you from it.  Friendship isn't an obligation. It isn't something you can force on someone. It isn't bounded by anything like a family and a romantic relationship is. It isn't burdened by expectations and duty. That's the beauty of friendship.
Our even longer ends here.

yknow what really gets me? the fact that we all seem to think that robin doesn’t enjoy jock things. while she’s canonically seen enjoying and cheering at the basketball game in s4 and more importantly, SHE PLAYS SOCCER!!!! she literally says so in s3?!!!! don’t come at me with your “robin is a music nerd ONLY” because she’s so much more than that!! and we should explore soccer player robin in fics bc i’m pretty sure whoever you ship her with will have an aneurysm watching her play soccer

Was thinking about how in-canon-Tim is a huge Kord fan.
Also thinking about how he's probably a Booster anti solely because Booster reminds him of Kon.
