eddie munson x fem!reader
word count: [2.9K]
warnings: warnings: no use of y/n, established-ish relationship, eddie feeling like he's not good enough, mentions of financial difficulties, overall fluff goodness!!! loosely based off "i wanna be yours" by the arctic monkeys
summary: eddie's down bad for you and all he wants to be is yours — you thought he already was.
Tumblr media
It should feel pathetic, the way Eddie dropped everything in a heartbeat and came dashing to you the moment you called out his name, but to him it was the greatest honor for your mouth to even utter his name — he’d simply come crawling if you’d ask.
“Eds,” nickname made him go weaker for you.
Your voice was a small whisper and your hand grazed shakily upon his forearm, giving it a tender squeeze as you leaned in closer just enough for your breath the dance over his earlobe. His opposite hand didn’t falter, binding around to rest on the small of your back staying there to keep you steady in the cramped position.
“S’the matter, sweets?” He murmured loud enough for you to hear over the music of the party, brows pinching together, watching you intently.
He felt you pinch his skin again, your thumb and forefinger rubbing over the area apologetically, as you met his eyes, “C-could you come with me outside? Just need some fresh air and I don’t want to go alone.” Your voice was almost saturated with regret for feeling like such a hassle.
But Eddie didn’t want you to go alone, anyway.
It was a friend of a friend’s house party on the other side of town with plenty of people that you and him didn’t necessarily know too well. Honestly, you didn’t even have to ask. You could’ve just walked right up and grabbed him by the hand and dragged him out the front door and he wouldn’t have asked any questions.
But the way you ask him as if he’d ever say no made his heart melt because clearly you didn’t quite know how head over heels he was for you already.
There wasn’t much to it after that. Eddie simply gave your back a small pat and begun to stand up from his seat, letting his arm wrap across your shoulders as he maneuvered the both of you through the sea of bodies.
“Thanks.” You smiled tenderly up at him through the walk, encasing your hands around his biceps and following his lead out the front door that was propped wide open.
Eddie knew you like the back of your hand, the way your senses tended to get overstimulated when the music was too loud, chatter was too chattery, and the footsteps too heavy — he knew all of those things and he never minded that he was painstakingly aware because he wanted to be when it came to you.
These days, your comfort meant more to him than anything in the world. Tonight, it was an overload, and he wanted to curse himself for not noticing sooner.
It didn’t happen all the time, but occasionally you just needed a minute away, far away where those things couldn’t be heard at all. You didn’t even have to ask him to walk with you a few blocks down in the neighborhood to get away from hearing the thump of the party. He just continued on, letting you cling to him as he gave your shoulders a squeeze every so often to silently ask you if it was all better now.
It was always better when it was just you and Eddie.
“Sorry, it was just so loud.” You exhaled shakily, untying your arms from his muscles and instead hugging yourself to his torso, breathing him in — letting him fill your senses.
He found it heartening that you gravitated to him like that no matter where you were. Eddie was like your giant portable teddy bear, always near and ready for you to jump into his arms. His chin rested on the top of your head, draping his arms over your back and pulling you closer — the closest he can get you to keep you here and warm.
“S’okay, you don’t have to apologize, baby.” His voice was soothing and ironing out any worries that lingered.
“But you were talking to Rick then I—”
You could feel his head rock against you, a puff of air exiting his mouth with a deep breath. “You didn’t do anything. Just stupid talk anyway. You know I’d drop anything for you.”
The emphasis on ‘you’ was endearing because you felt the exact same way for Eddie. The urgency to be at his side whenever he needed you and even when he didn’t say it, you can feel it in your bones, because in soul you just knew.
“I know.” You said, dragging your face away from his chest to beam up at him, tiptoeing to press a kiss under his jaw before setting back into him.
He could still feel your lips on his skin, a sort of electrifying touch that should have had him running because it had to be too good to be true, yet all he wanted was more but only if it was you. Whether it was here on a shadowy sidewalk or maybe at the Hideout after one of his shows, and the end of the night and the start of the day, it could only be you and him.
All he ever wanted now was it for you both to be where you belonged — always in each other’s arms.
“Wanna go home?” He crooned, sliding a delicate hand through the ends of your hair careful not to let his rings catch.
You pressed another kiss this time to the center of his clothed chest, gawking up at him. “Do you?” You sought putting himself first instead of your own — good thing Eddie could read you like a book.
He grinned, cheeks tugging his knowing smiling impossibly wider. “Yeah, I do.”
He led you to his van, shrugging off his leather jacket and dressing it over your body as you settled into the passenger seat. You often got cold on late night drives and felt bad for asking to turn down the air conditioning so in order to comprise, though he never minded, whatever jacket he was sporting always ended up acting as a blanket until you got home and he could he yours.
“Feeling warmer?” Eddie chuckled, darting quickly from the road to your body that was curled up in the seat.
You nodded with a hum, bringing the sleeve of his jacket away from your face. “Better, but I really wanna take a hot shower when we get home.”
He let out a sound of agreement, reaching over for the air conditioning vents closer to you and flipping them up so less of the cold air was directed in your direction. It was a pure act, one that you picked up all the time even when you promised you were okay — part of you liked to think he had spidey-senses and could feel the shivers you tried to hide from him.
He could feel everything without you saying a word, a kind of connection you never thought was possible in this lifetime.
“Gonna do an everything shower tonight?” He asked with a glint of humor in his voice.
He was familiar with your ‘everything’ showers: full body exfoliations, deep conditioning, hair masks, the whole shebang. Eddie was more than happy to sit outside the shower, keeping you company for the next hour that used up all the hot water.
Truth be told, he subjected to everything showers at least once a month — when he was all burnt out from work and just wanted to relax, you’d fill the bath up with epsom salts, sit on the ledge of the tub as you shampooed his hair, and the both of you would talk until the water turned cold.
You giggled, shaking your head tiredly at him. “Not today. I’m too tired. We can shower together if you want? I like it better when you wash my hair.”
Who was he to turn that down?
“My pleasure, doll.”
Home was Eddie’s and his uncle Wayne’s shared trailer — it was your favorite place to be, despite what Eddie thought of the quaint space. It had an even smaller bathroom, but you didn’t care, pleased that it gave you the excuse to be closer to him in the most intimate way.
He always let you stand directly in the stream, letting the hot water cascade over your naked body while he received the backsplash of the droplets against his cool skin. His fingers worked through your scalp, the chunky rings shed for the time being, allowing him to be more firm in his movements, getting your scalp nice and clean.
You were humming a song, and he wasn’t sure which one, your voice too quiet for him to hear over the water and the suds from the shampoo. He thought it was something from the new Madonna album he picked up for you on cassette, and he was sure it would only be a few more days before he learned all the lyrics and got them stuck in his head.
When lather foamed up on your head like a heap of bubbles and that’s when he knew he’s done enough washing, nudging your shoulder with a kiss of his lips as he was mumbling against your skin.
“Turn around and let me rinse it out, sweets.”
You nodded, twirling on your heels as his hands instinctively grabbed at your shoulders making sure you didn’t slip and fall. You shut your eyes tightly, letting the water flow over the back of your head, his fingers once again combing through the ends gently, doing his best to not let the soapy water travel down your face.
He took his time even though he clearly didn’t see the suds running any more. He just wanted to admire your pretty face with your eyes closed because that meant you didn’t try dodging away from his gaze.
He noted how you felt the suds wash away, face then relaxing and the pinching of your eyes eased and a tired smile took over like you were seconds away from dreaming.
Yet he knew he couldn’t let you sleep like that, bringing you back with a gentle kiss upon your lips until you finally switched places, letting him be under the showerhead.
“You’re running out of shampoo.” You pouted, reaching down to grab at his bottle and squeeze a dollop into your palm.
He shrugged, keeping his arms around your waistline as your hands wandered up and began raking the product through his hair. Your nails were a bit longer than his, scratching at his scalp just enough that it didn’t hurt, but tickled in a pleasing way.
“I’ll pick some up tomorrow. Do we need more conditioner too?” He proposed already peeking one of his eyes open to stare at the nearly empty bottle.
You thought he didn’t know, but Eddie knew you hated when he spent money on you, even if it was a shared thing like conditioner or shampoo. He did a lot for his home, helping his uncle with rent with whatever tips he made from his share tips at the Hideout and when times were rough, pawning things just for the extra cash.
You wanted him to save some for himself, something he could call his own instead of giving it to you when you didn’t need it.
But things were starting to get a lot better with Eddie picking up a job at the General Store after Joyce became manager and was able to hire him as a cashier. He’d spoil you to cool thrifted jewelry and take you out on dates at Benny’s where he’d let you pick whatever you wanted and promised that you two wouldn’t have to share a single meal or a single drink.
In a lot of ways, Eddie’s love language was gift giving even if it was small acts. In all honestly, if Eddie could pluck every single star from the galaxy and give it to you in a bouquet sprinkled with flowers and love letters he would.
He’d give you the whole world if he could.
But even then, you’d probably tell him how he didn’t have to do all of that because all you ever needed was him. Same thing went for that silly bottle of conditioner that he knew you’d fill up with water and let last another two weeks before he’d pick a new one up without asking you.
Your fingers falter against his scalp before you shake your head, “No, we’re fine. It should last us until next week or so.”
He called it.
“Hmm, sure,” He grunted, wiggling his shoulders, “You said you wanted to try that new brand right? The lavender and mint scent?” He urged, not trying to tease, but it came out that way with the smile he still wore.
“Stop it.” You bite down on your lip, trying to hold back your guffaw as you motioned for him to turn around so you could rinse out the product.
You knew it no use trying to change his mind… if you were lucky, you’d say by the time he got home from work tomorrow he’d walk in with a bag of groceries and a new bottle of conditioner and shampoo in one of them.
And the both of you would probably end up here again… showering each other with love and suds of a new scent that will become your new favorite — he would definitely remember until you decided it was time for something new.
The two of you spent the rest of the shower with delicate hands roaming across bare skin, quietly conversating about any and everything under the warm water that was slowly running cold. When the water finally shut off, you both patted your bodies dry and standing in front of the mirror where Eddie watched you complete your skin care routine before helping him with his own.
You ended up dressed his oversized t-shirt and a clean pair of boxers as he settled for sweatpants that hung low on his hips. If you weren’t so tired, you’d jump his bones and get dirty all over again, but for the sake of your energy, you could wait it out till morning, happy to know you got to jump his bones in another way that was just as good.
His room was pitch black, cascaded with the pale moonlight that peeked past the curtains with the slight breeze coming from the ceiling fan whirling above you. His blanket was pulled up to your collarbones, keeping you warm alongside himself who acted as your portable heater. One of your legs rucked over his hips as the other rested against his thigh.
Eddie could feel your breathing against his chest, cheek nuzzled up right under his head that thumped for you… always for you.
All of his being, every inch and ounce of him was committed to you but he despised himself for not knowing if that was what you wanted. There was never a talk or conversation about what the two of you were.
It just so happened that it happened.
He gulped, thumb caressing your shoulder in random patterns as he looked down at you. “Baby?” he called out, checking to see if you were still awake before you hummed against him, “What am I to you?”
“Huh?” You moaned out, brows furrowing with your eyes still closed, caught between being awake and drifting off to sleep.
“Y’know, like…this. Us.” Eddie shifted a bit, just enough to be able to move your damp hair away from your face, “What am I to you?”
You didn’t give it much thought. The only thing in your head was the four letter word echoing because even in the dead of night on the brink of slumber, Eddie was always going to be the one for you.
“Mine.” You said, voice stronger than before, as you fought your eyes open and looked up at him past the darkness.
“Y-yeah?”
His voice seemed to betray his smile, like he still couldn’t fathom you could see him in that light. The kind that didn’t glare off his flaws or the things that he was afraid of… you didn’t make him feel less than for having fears or not being the perfect person.
To you it only made him more human, the one that you wanted to spend forever with.
“You’ve always been mine, Eds.” You murmured, moving yourself up on your elbows just enough to look down at him.
Your palm came down to where your head had laid, pressing against his heart and letting him know you were right there with him all along.
“What do you want to be to me?” You whispered, keeping your eyes on his, swimming in them, trying to get a glimpse into his thoughts.
His fingers wrapped around your wrist, feeling your pulse that beat in sync with his. There was no doubt in his mind that he always wanted you to be his, but he was always afraid he was never enough to be yours.
Not until now.
“Yours,” He breathed, finally letting go of the secret he held too long in his heart to try to hide any longer.
Smiling at him like he had plucked every star from the galaxy and laid them all out here for you. That’s when you knew what it was… what it had been all along. You leaned forward, resting your forehead against his, still smiling stupidly lovesick at him—
“You always have been.”
A kiss, a bond that sealed you two together forever because maybe all you wanted to be was each other’s, in this lifetime and all the others ones that existed.

Synopsis: Rick and Michonne spend time with their children.
Words: 2.3k
AO3
Their home felt different. Not in a way that it was unrecognizable, but just different. So much time had passed. They had lived so much of their lives behind those walls, but also away from there. Michonne and Rick were grateful that Aaron and Father Gabriel were gracious enough allow the Grimes family to move back into their old home. They were intent on making sure it felt safe and loving for their children.
The family sat up late into the night. Mattresses and pillows everywhere in the living room as Rick and Michonne told stories, and asked about what their children had been doing. Judith told stories of how she and RJ spent their time. RJ asked so many questions of his father. Rick offered them apologies as he listened to them with tears in his eyes. Michonne held her family close and told them how much she loved and missed them.
It was nearing midnight when RJ began snoring softly, nestled in between his mother and father. Judith had started to yawn, losing her battle with trying to keep her eyes open.
“You should sleep now, Sweetheart,” said Michonne, as she pressed a soft kiss to her daughter’s head.
“One more story,” Judith pleaded, though she yawned again.
“We can finish our stories tomorrow, Sleepyhead,” said Rick with a warm smile.
“Can we have a family fun day, too?” asked Judith, as her eyes finally closed.
“Yeah,” said Rick, happily. “We can do whatever you want.”
Growl.
Snarl.
Stab.
Slash.
Withdraw.
Repeat.
Gone were those days. Days stabbing and slashing. Days counting kills and hours. Rick had lost so much time. So much time with his family. With Judith. With Michonne. With RJ. He was determined to spend every waking hour with them now that he had been brought back home.
Breakfast was an almost raucous affair. Pancake batter and pieces of fruit were everywhere. Laughter wafted throughout the house as Rick tried to convince their children that he was actually good at making pancakes in the shape of teddy bears and bunny rabbits.
“They look like walkers!” RJ exclaimed as yet another batch of bunnies bled together in the pan.
“Oh my gosh, they do!” Judith joined in.
The pair began to laugh again as Rick stood looking faux-offended. Michonne came to stand behind Rick and wrapped her arms around his waist. She peered over his shoulder to see what he had plated up for their children.
“Hmm,” she said. “I’d better get my sword for these ones. Definitely look like walkers.”
The Virginian sun felt warm on his skin as Rick squinted out across the water. It was a fine day to spend outdoors with the ones he loved the most in the world. Judith and RJ came running up with the long jump rope as Michonne laid the blanket out on the grassy area.
“RJ, you and Dad can turn the rope, and me and Mom will jump first,” Judith directed.
“Aww, I wanna jump first,” RJ replied with a pout.
“You can jump with Dad,” Judith insisted.
“Okay,” RJ replied with a smile, and then turned to Rick to say, “Are you good at jump rope?”
Rick looked a little sheepish, glanced at Michonne, and then back at their son before replying, “I ain’t jumped rope since I was in the fifth grade, but I’ll give it a go for you.”
RJ presented his father with a smile and said, “I believe in you.”
Rick almost melted into the grass-covered ground in that moment. His chest swelled with adoration as a wide smile crossed his face. He was still smiling as he and RJ turned the rope and sang Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear while Judith and Michonne skipped, jumped, and laughed.
The food that RJ and Judith had prepared for their family picnic was a welcome treat after jumping rope and laughing all morning. The spread looked delicious as the two children served up food for their parents. They insisted that, after Rick’s scary-looking pancakes earlier in the day, they should do any and all food preparation for lunch. Their parents were happy for them to take the lead.
RJ plated up fruits, nuts, and a sandwich each for his mother and father, while Judith made sure they all had glasses of lemonade to wash it all down.
“This is lovely,” said Rick with a warm smile as he took the plate and cup. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Judith and RJ said in unison.
“Can we finish telling stories now?” asked Judith as she settled in next to her mother.
“Absolutely,” Michonne replied. “What did you want to hear about?”
“Ooh, I know,” RJ interjected excitedly. “Tell us about the helicopter ride.”
“Yeah!” Judith agreed. “What was it like being up in the sky like that?”
Michonne smiled at their children, then at Rick, and said, “Well, it’s actually pretty fun. You can see miles and miles of countryside from up there. Rivers and lakes. Hills and trees. You can see where other settlements are. Hordes of walkers. I never actually thought I’d get to fly like that again.”
“Wow,” said RJ, captivated by what his mother was saying.
“You used to fly before?” asked a curious Judith.
“All the time,” said Michonne. “Mostly for work. But sometimes for fun. Like going on vacation. I loved that. And Andre was such a good baby when we were on planes. He never made a fuss.”
“Andre went flying with you?” asked RJ, his eyes filled with wonder.
“Oh yeah, Baby. Andre went with me everywhere,” said Michonne with a nostalgic smile on her lips; Rick took hold of her hand and gave it a squeeze.
“Can we go flying with you on the helicopter?” asked RJ.
“Yeah, do you think we could?” Judith chimed in.
“Maybe,” said Michonne, before she turned to look at Rick and added, “Did you know your Dad knows how to fly a helicopter?”
“No way!” said RJ, eyes wide.
“Really?” asked Judith, not recalling that detail from all of the stories her mother had told about the Brave Man.
“Yes, really,” Michonne replied. “So who knows? Maybe one of these days we’ll all get to fly together.”
Rick laid back on the picnic blanket as Michonne dug through her bag to find the deck of cards, pencils, and books they had brought along. He watched happily as Judith and RJ were play fighting with sticks for swords. Judith was pretty good; you could tell RJ was still learning. Rick watched as his daughter showed his son how to strike and parry. Watched the determination on their faces as RJ tried to master a move; watched the joy that encompassed both of them when he got it right.
“She’s good at that,” said Rick to Michonne without taking his eyes of their children.
“She’s so good at that,” Michonne confirmed.
“And RJ’s a quick learner,” Rick commented proudly. “You did a great job with them, Michonne.”
He finally turned his gaze to lock eyes with his wife.
“I’m so sorry you had to do it on your own,” he added.
Michonne placed the books down and took hold of Rick’s hand.
“Stop apologizing,” Michonne insisted. “And I didn’t do it on my own. I had help from all of our friends and our family.”
Rick nodded his head and listened as Michonne continued.
“And in all honesty, I wasn’t alone,” she admitted, running her thumb over his. “I carried you with me the whole time. Your memory. Your values. Your good, kind heart. Your voice in the back of my mind. You were with me, Rick. The whole time. Even when you weren’t here, you were still here. In the way I raised them. In the way I love them.”
Rick gave his wife a small smile and then brought her hand to his lips as he pressed a lovingly gentle kiss to it.
“Thank you,” said Rick in earnest. “Thank you for taking care of our family.”
As the day progressed, Michonne and Judith decide that they should get some training done and let Rick and RJ spend some time together alone. Father and son sat on the blanket and chatted while RJ flicked through the books that Michonne brought. Rick took the moment to reach into the bag and retrieve a gift he had procured for RJ.
“Son?” said Rick, getting RJ’s attention.
“Yeah?” RJ replied.
“I got somethin’ for you,” said Rick as he held out the plastic-covered comic book. “Your Mama said you liked to read comics.”
RJ’s face lit up as he took the gift from his father.
“I love ‘em,” said RJ as he examined the cover.
“Hope you haven’t read this one yet,” Rick said, feeling like the warmth radiating from RJ’s smile was filling his soul.
RJ looked closer and then shook his head, “Not yet.”
He removed the book carefully from the plastic and looked at the image on the cover. He smiled to himself and then looked up to smile at his father.
“This is one of my favorite comics,” RJ explained. “It was one of Carl’s favorites, too.”
Something tightened in Rick’s chest at RJ’s mention of Carl. Of course Michonne and Judith would have told stories about Carl, too. It just hit Rick with so much emotion to hear his son who was still with him speak of his son whom he had lost. They looked so much alike. Had so much in common. It was heartwarming to know that they both shared a love of comic books.
“Invincible,” said Rick as he read the title. “So, your big brother loved it too, eh?”
“Yep,” said RJ. “Carl’s favorite hero.”
Rick nodded his head and watched as RJ skimmed through the pages. A comfortable silence settled around them. RJ looked at the pictures in the book; Rick looked at him.
“I hope Carl knew he was a hero, too,” RJ said so quietly that Rick almost missed it.
Rick felt his eyes begin to water and a lump form in his throat.
“I – I don’t know if Carl realized that, but he was. He was a hero,” said Rick. “He saved me so many times.”
RJ nodded his head and looked thoughtful, just like Carl.
Rick swallowed down the lump and said, “Y’know, your Mama saved me as well. You kids saved me.”
RJ tilted his head to the side and asked, “Me, too?”
“Yes,” said Rick, as he smiled and placed a hand to RJ’s shoulder.
“How?” asked RJ, wide-eyed and curious. “We just met. Plus, I’m not good with swords like Judith. And I’m good at everything like Carl was. What did I do?”
“First of all, you are good at so many things, Honey. So many things,” said Rick, as he gave RJ’s shoulder a squeeze. “Secondly, you’re here. Just you bein’ here is saving me. You are a hero, too. Okay?”
RJ smiled at his father and said, “Okay. Thanks, Dad.”
The sun was hanging low in the sky when the whole Grimes family decides to make daisy chains. RJ and Judith helped Rick to collect the flowers. There were so many different colored flowers that they could choose from that they almost cleaned out the whole patch. Michonne was really good at lacing and weaving the stems together. Rick found himself watching her diligently. Once he had gotten the hang of it, there was no stopping him. He made one for Judith that he helped fix to her hair. He made a smaller one for RJ that he helped fix to RJ’s wrist. And he spent an awful longtime on Michonne’s daisy chain, the kids noticed.
“Dad, what’s taking so long?” asked Judith as she tied her creation to the top of RJ’s hat.
“I have to get it just right,” Rick replied as he continued adding to the chain. “Gotta make it look like a crown.”
He glanced from the kids to their mother, and then added, “Because your Mama is a queen and it’s what she deserves.”
RJ giggled almost as loudly as Michonne did. Neither child rolled their eyes at how sappy their parents were being. Judith asked if that meant she and RJ were royalty, too.
After the sun had dropped and the moon had taken its place, the Grimes family settled in for an evening in their home. Michonne was helping Judith get ready while RJ and Rick were downstairs in the living room. After setting up the mattresses, blankets, and pillows, RJ and Rick got a quiet moment together. RJ, in his pajamas, settled in next to his father on the sofa.
“Can I tell you something?” asked RJ, breaking the comfortable silence.
“You can tell me anything,” Rick replied, as he turned to face his young son.
“I knew Mama would bring you home,” said RJ with a bright smile. “When she says she’s gonna do something, I always believe her.”
Rick smiled and said, “Yeah, me too. She’s pretty awesome.”
RJ nodded his head and then said, “Can I ask you something?”
“Anything,” Rick replied sincerely.
“Am I like you imagined I would be?” asked RJ, so shyly and sincerely that it almost broke Rick’s chest open.
A lump formed in his throat and he felt tears spill from his eyes.
“You are everything that I imagined you would be,” said Rick, as his voice cracked, and he draped his arm over his son’s shoulder. “Everything and more. I loved you before I even met you. I loved you as soon as your Mama told me that you existed. You are everything, RJ. You are everything to me.”
“Cool,” said RJ, as he leaned into Rick’s embrace. “You’re like how I imagined you would be, too.”
“Is that a good thing?”
“Yep, very good.”
Rick pressed a kiss to the top of RJ’s head and breathed in his scent.
“Good. I’m glad.”
Silence filled the air around them for a moment before RJ broke it.
“Dad?”
“Yeah?”
“I just want you to know,” said the small boy as he snuggled closer to his father. “I loved you before I met you, too.”

I was wondering if you have any fluff headcanons similar to 'calling eddie angel' i want that boy to feel good in a way he never expected to receive, i want him to feel special x
eddie goes into relationships with the idea that he's the one who's gotta do most, if not all, of the pleasing. be it from wayne's advice — open every door for them, pull a chair before sitting, bring flowers on the first date, listen to them — or from reefer rick's weird chaps about how to please a woman, or even from his own ingrained notion that, if he doesn't prove himself good enough, they'll leave him.
leave him like everyone else in his life did. it's not a rational thought, but seldom he has been.
he especially doesn't want you to leave. he'd worship the ground you walk on either way, kiss the floor beneath your feet just because he feels like you deserve it, but the thought of losing you is earth shattering enough to make him double down on it.
what he didn't expect was that you'd do the same for him.
it leaves him dumbfounded at first. on your first date, when he'd given you a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers — one he'd never tell you were picked in the woods near the trailer park — and picked one up to put behind his ear. "there, for you to feel special too.". it stayed there all night.
you find out what his favorite snacks are, and mysteriously, they're always in your pantry. you know just how he likes to have his hair played with — after all the times he'd put your hand on his hair, silently pleading for your touch, you learned to do it always.
the mixtapes in his van, the new patches sewn into his battle vest, the small teddy bear sitting on his dresser. "if you got me one, it's only fair he'd need a sibling too.". their names match, not that anyone needs to know.
your weight over his body when the world becomes too much to talk, and your head on his chest when it becomes too overwhelming to stay quiet. he drowns in it, the omnipresent feeling of you. everywhere at once, meeting him in every way.
reciprocity wasn't a word eddie was familiar with until you. then, it's the only thing he knows.

What if Eddie had been hidden at Steve's house after Chrissy?
A/N: This was supposed to be just a headcanon, but it sort of just ran away from me. Oops. It's really long, and there's going to be one more part. I may have mixed up a few things, considering I tried to write it all from memory, and I have the memory of a goldfish.
Summary: They sort of messed up with keeping Eddie safe from the public. Never once did they think that if they could find Eddie through Reefer Rick, then other people could, too? I bet Steve thought Eddie would be safer at his house, but he was unsure of saying it. He wasn't sure if it would be smart or not. Where is the last place they would look? Steve Harrington's house. What if Steve did say it outloud?
"Hey, Dustin," Steve said softly. "If we found Eddie through Reefer Rick, then can't other people find him too?"
They had finally found Eddie and were about to leave the boathouse when Steve got the idea.
"Well, where else do you suggest we hide him, Steve?" Dustin asked.
"Where's the last place, if at all, do you think they would look for him?" Steve asked.
"Well, they would never look for him at your place," Dustin laughed, and then he stopped. "Holy shit, they would never look for him at your place."
Dustin scurried back to the boathouse, coming back with a confused metalhead. Dustin went to climb into the passenger's seat but was pulled back by Eddie and pushed to the back seat.
"Parentals sit up front," Eddie replied, and Steve scoffed. "Especially ones who are new to all this shit. So, who's idea was it for me to hide at Harrington's?"
"It was Steve's," Dustin said casually.
Eddie stared at Steve as he drove off, unsure of what to make of him.
"Well, uh, thanks, man," Eddie said.
"No problem," Steve said, coughing awkwardly.
Once he dropped everyone off, it was just him and Eddie on the drive back.
"So, why are you doing this? Putting me up?" Eddie asked.
"Because Dustin looks up to you, man. I couldn't stand looking him in the eye, knowing something happened to you. I hate to say it, but we all know what's going to happen once they find Chrissy in your trailer. Besides, no one should be alone after discovering this shit," Steve said.
"Speaking from experience?" Eddie asked and Steve blushed.
He reached over to turn on the radio. "Cum on Feel the Noize" blasted through his speakers. Steve began beating on his steering wheel, singing loudly. He snapped his fingers at Eddie until Eddie had no choice but to join in. They were laughing almost all the way to Steve’s house. It had gotten a little awkward when Steve, laughing, had placed his hand on Eddie's knee. After Steve invited him into his house, given him some pajamas, he made him another offer.
"Look, you can pick any room, or you can share my bed if you don't want to sleep alone tonight?" Steve asked.
"You trying to take advantage of me, Harrington?" Eddie asked, and Steve stared at him before he realized that he was joking.
"Yeah, no, you'd know if I was taking advantage of you," Steve said and then paused. "Wait, that doesn't sound right."
Eddie laughed, taking the clothes Steve had given him, and began to strip right in front of him. Steve quickly averted his eyes, looking up at the ceiling when Eddie accidentally pulled down his boxers slightly when he started to take off his pants. Eddie had flashed him his ass.
"Whoops!" Eddie cackled. "I swear I'm not trying to make it up to you by putting on a show."
He pulled on the plaid pajama pants and flopped shirtless on Steve’s bed. He rolled around on Steve’s bed, standing up a couple of times to jump on it, and then finally laid on his back as he stared up at the ceiling.
"Seriously?"
Steve rolled his eyes and slipped into the spot beside him. Steve was startled when Eddie pulled him to his chest. His cheek was pressed up against his tattoos.
"I left my teddy bear at home, so a Stevie bear is going to have to do," Eddie said. "Thanks again for letting me stay here."
"It's not a problem," Steve muttered sleepily.
As Steve’s eyes began to flutter close, he felt a hand drift through his hair. Considering the situation, shouldn't this be the other way around? The next morning, Eddie was gone. Steve jumped up, panicking until he heard music coming from downstairs. He walked into the kitchen to find Eddie wearing one of his blue sweaters and cooking breakfast.
"Morning," Steve greeted and Eddie jumped.
"Good morning, my liege. Our son called. He and the others want to come over to talk," Eddie said.
"Really sticking with the whole he's our kid thing, huh?" Steve asked.
"As smart as he is, that kid would stick a fork into a power outlet if he was curious enough and if we weren't there to stop him," Eddie replied.
"That's fucking true," Steve laughed. "I think there has to be some sort of balance when you're as smart as Dustin. You also have to be just as dumb and reckless."
"You might be onto something, Steve," Eddie said with a laugh.
After breakfast, Steve took a shower and then went to get Dustin, Max, and Robin while Eddie started making breakfast for them.
"I do not want to listen to that little shit complain," Eddie had said.
While they ate breakfast, Dustin gave him the rundown of what had happened over the last couple of years. Meanwhile, Robin was leaning against the counter giving Steve a look.
"He's wearing your sweater, cooking breakfast in your house, and sleeping in your bed. It's all very domestic," Robin said.
"Shut up," Steve said, blushing.
"Gasp. Does Steve Harrington have a crush?" Robin whispered.
"Yeah, I think he's cute, but that doesn't mean I have a crush," Steve said, blushing.
"Oh, how the tables have turned," Robin said.
Just then, the sound of police sirens was heard in the distance. Everyone except Eddie raced outside. They watched as the cops drove by. They were heading towards the trailer park. Steve went inside and told Eddie to lay low before he grabbed his keys. After finding out that Fred, Nancy's friend, was killed, she was now involved in trying to find who or what was behind these attacks. While Robin and Nancy went to the library to find out more about Victor Creel, the others, minus Eddie, went to the counselors and then went to break into the school. They learned that Max was Vecna's next victim. They had all gathered in Nancy's basement, and Steve watched as Max paced, worry etched on her face. It made her look older than she was. Steve hated that. At least Lucas was with them now.
"They're definitely going to think Eddie did it after this," Dustin moped.
"Eddie!" Steve said. "I need to check on him. Make sure that Carver didn't get to him. Nance -,"
"Nancy and I got this. Go," Robin said, ushering him out.
Steve paused on his way out the door and turned to Max.
"Don't bite me for this," Steve said and gave her a one-armed hug.
He was surprised when Max hugged him back tightly and then moved back quickly.
"No one saw that," Max said, glaring at them.
Steve unlocked the door to his house, and as soon as he walked in, once again, he was pushed up against the wall. Eddie had him pinned, his full weight against him. One of his knees was slotted in between Steve’s legs. As soon as he realized who it was, Eddie stumbled back.
"Sorry, I don't know why I keep doing that," Eddie said apologetically.
"Really? Cause I'm starting to guess why," Steve grumbled under his breath. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I mean, no offense to you, but your house is kind of -," Eddie said.
"Creepy?" Steve asked.
"I was going to say lonely," Eddie said.
"Well, my parents left me alone so many times I probably left an impression on the place," Steve said sarcastically.
"How many times did they leave you alone?" Eddie asked.
"Too many times to count," Steve replied casually.
"Okay. I'm going to do something that's probably a little intimate for two people just starting to get to know one another," Eddie said.
"Because you practically pressing me to your nipple last night wasn't too intimate?" Steve asked.
"I was using you like a teddy bear, Steven!" Eddie exclaimed. "It was completely innocent."
"Lay it on me, Munson."
Eddie threw his arms around him and hugged him tightly.
"Shh. Just let this happen," Eddie said. "This is called a hug."
"Fuck you, I know what a hug is, jackass," Steve replied, hugging him back.
"The first time I got a hug after my mom died was from my uncle. After she passed, my dad stopped being my dad. He ignored me a lot and became more reckless. I think I reminded him too much of Mama. One evening, he dropped me off at Wayne's and never came back. Hugs eventually became rather important to both of us. It reminded us that we weren't alone," Eddie said.
Steve hugged him tighter and burrowed his face into his neck. They stayed like that for a long time. Steve pulled back with a sigh.
"A student named Fred Benson died in your trailer park last night," Steve said. "And we discovered that Max is Vecna's next victim."
"Shit."
The next morning, Steve resisted the urge to kiss Eddie goodbye as he slipped out of bed. Eddie managed to mumble a goodbye before turning around and hugging the pillow that Steve had been sleeping on. Steve stared at Eddie's back and bit his lip as he felt a fluttering feeling in his chest. Steve fought another urge to slip back into bed and went to Nancy's.
When he walked into the basement, Max was writing furiously at the desk while Lucas and Dustin watched her. It turned out to be letters for everyone in case something went wrong. Steve was touched that he had gotten one but also concerned.
"So, how's your new roommate?" Dustin asked.
"Well, he kicks in his sleep," Steve said without thinking.
"All the rooms in your house and he's sleeping in your bed?" Max asked.
"After what he saw, would you want to be alone?" Steve asked, blushing.
"Oh my God! You like him!" Dustin exclaimed.
"Okay, just because I also like guys doesn't mean that I have to like the guy who I let sleep in my bed, wear my clothes, and who I sometimes let cuddle me. Okay?" Steve said, throwing up his hands.
"Right. Because I do that with all of my guy friends," Dustin grinned.
"Okay, yeah. He's cute, especially when I walked in the other day when a rollie pollie had gotten into the house. He was just crouching there, watching it scuddle along. He wasn't bothering it or anything. He was just watching it living its life, his head tilted to the side with a fond look - Oh my God, I like him!" Steve exclaimed.
"You know, if it had been a spider, it would have been creepy," Max said.
"Seriously, Max?" Lucas asked.
"Hey, I'm cursed. You can't scold me," she replied.
"You want me to do some infiltration? Find out what his situation is," Dustin asked.
"No, no, no. Don't do that," Steve said quickly. "I told you guys about me in my own time. If Eddie is also the same, he should be given the same opportunity to say it in his own time, right?"
"Right," all three coursed.
"You know I would never tell him that you like him, right?" Dustin asked.
"I wouldn't have told you guys about me if I didn't trust you guys to keep a secret," Steve said.
"We want you to be happy, Steve," Dustin said.
"My happiness isn't dependent on whether I'm in a relationship," Steve said. "My family makes me happy too."
"Dude, your parents suck," Lucas said.
"I wasn't talking about them. I was talking about you guys," Steve said, looking at all of them and looking pointedly at Max last.
Max sniffled and threw her arms around Steve, hugging him tightly.
"You assholes didn't see that either," Max said.
"Oh, dear, I think I've gone temporarily blind," Dustin said, waving his hands in front of his face.
"Shit, man, me too," Lucas said.
"Idiots."
Nancy and Robin had come into the room, announcing their plan to go see Victor Creel, where they found out that he survived by music pulling him out of his hallucination. It's what eventually led to them saving Max when she got cursed at Billy's grave. The imagine of her eyes and her floating in the sky would haunt Steve for a long time. Like Lucas, he would be forever grateful for Kate Bush.
"You guys want to meet up at my house this time?" Steve asked. "I have more room."
Max, Dustin, and Lucas shared a knowing look before nodding. Dustin was first through the door and into Eddie's arms. He was still wearing Steve’s blue sweater and a fresh pair of pajama bottoms. His hair was wet from taking a shower. Once Dustin broke from the hug, Steve swept Eddie up into his own arms. He hugged him tightly, smiling when he smelt his own shampoo in Eddie's hair. Steve told Eddie what happened and Eddie broke the hug.
"Shit, Red, you okay? Well, that's a stupid question. Of course, you're not okay. You know what, you will be. You're tough as hell. In fact, you could just scowl at that fucker and he'd melt. If anyone is made of hellfire, it's you," Eddie said.
Max rolled her eyes before throwing her arms him and hugging him too.
"Oh God! I'm blind again!" Dustin exclaimed.
The next morning, Steve was up before Eddie and everyone else. He decided to make breakfast. As he was cooking, Eddie and Max stumbled in. They were carrying paper and a large box of crayons.
"You guys are up early," Steve said.
"So are you," Eddie pointed out.
"I wanted to make breakfast for everyone," Steve replied.
"I couldn't sleep. Some people kept playing music in my ears," Max said as she started to draw.
Max out her earphones back on as Steve flipped on the radio to Eddie's favorite station. Just then, Nancy skidded into the kitchen and sighed in relief at the sight of Max. She plopped down next to her and watched her draw. Steve placed a cup of coffee in front of Eddie, just the way he liked it.
"Thanks, babe," Eddie said absent-mindedly, and Steve blushed.
Max and Nancy raised their eyebrows. They had heard that. Steve leaned over to see what Eddie was drawing and sighed, pinching his nose.
"Eddie, why the hell are you drawing a bunch of dicks?" Steve asked.
"You are what you want to eat, Stevie!" Eddie cackled, rolling the paper into a ball.
"Not in front of the child, Munson!" Steve exclaimed, and Max rolled her eyes while Nancy struggled not to laugh.
Steve opened his mouth to say something else when Eddie shoved the paper ball into his mouth.
"Eat a bunch of dicks, Harrington!" Eddie cackled and frowned when Steve spat it out. "You're supposed to swallow."
"I wish someone told me that before I ate a bunch," Max quipped.
Steve, Eddie, and Nancy all turned their heads to blink rapidly at her. Steve and Eddie both looked like they wanted to rip off their own ears.
"Relax, guys, I'm joking. Jesus, I'm not ready for that," she said.
Steve sighed in relief, clutching his chest. Meanwhile, Eddie was checking his pulse. Nancy rolled her eyes at both of them, but the color was just starting to come back to her own face.
"What are you drawing, Max?" Nancy asked.
Max explained to her that she was drawing what she had seen in Vecna's red soup mind as Steve had called it. Nancy watched her draw, and she eventually pieced together that Max was drawing Victor Creel's house.
"We'll go there after breakfast," Nancy stated.
"Everyone but me again," Eddie said, pouting.
"You're a wanted man, Eddie," Nancy pointed out.
"Yeah, baby," Eddie said, grinning.
"Not like that," Steve said, rolling his eyes.
"So, there's no one here who wants me like that?" Eddie asked innocently, batting his eyelashes.
"I mean, I didn't, I didn't mean that no one - KIDS, BREAKFAST!" Steve yelled.
Eddie cackled into his cup of coffee. They heard the sound of feet pounding down the stairs. Dustin and Lucas came running into the kitchen to fix themselves food. Robin came stumbling into the kitchen a moment later, rubbing sleep from her eyes. After they all sat down to eat, a news report came on the radio. Patrick McKee died at Lover's Lake. Steve had been right. They did try to find Eddie at Reefer Rick's. Everyone stared at Eddie, and he sighed.
"Go, I'll clean up," Eddie said.
Everyone started rushing out the door, and that's when Eddie noticed that Steve had forgotten his keys.
"Stevie!" Eddie cried, and Steve skidded to a stop as everyone was leaving. "You forgot something, big boy!"
"Right!"
Steve rushed back into the kitchen, cupped Eddie's face, and kissed him before running out the door.
"You forgot your fucking keys," Eddie muttered in shock.
Meanwhile, Steve was diving into the back of Nancy's station wagon with Dustin. As Nancy was driving away, Steve realized what he did and he hit his forehead.
"What?" Dustin asked.
"I forgot my fucking keys on the counter."
Part 2 (hopefully the final part) is coming soon!

annabeth chase 🏢
annabeth had a teddy when she was younger, but pretty much left it behind and never thought about it again. it’s never bothered her that you go to sleep with them, it’s never bothered her if you’ve brought one on a quest, but she’s never really thought about it much. until she was waiting for you in your room and, out of sheer boredom, began tossing them between her hands and examining the stitching and design. she’s also found that if you’re away from her, the teddies are something that connects her to you. she’ll never tell you, but she may borrow one when you’re on quests or visiting home.
frank zhang 🐻
human teddy bear. that’s why his emoji is a bear and not one of the many other animals he shifts into. frank is a teddy in his own right, but he honestly finds it cute that you have them littering your bed. will absent mindedly tidy them/line them up if he’s alone in your room, probably in height order, or with the smallest in their own row. he’s so interested in everything about you and will ask their names, where you got them, when you got them, what they’re wearing and why, ect. when you’re in that semi-peaceful, post-quest delighted phase of having nothing to do, and more importantly nothing to worry about, you and frank may lay and give them back stories and lives. when he’s a praetor and his responsibilities are almost never ending, it’s a fun pass time that helps him relax.
hazel levesque 💎
honestly, she’s never seen someone with more than one or two rag dolls. like most things in your modern life, it’s a learning curve for her. what she does know is you like them, and that’s all that matters for her. she doesn’t mind them herself, and if you ever gave her one, she’d be such an adorable mess of hardly contained glee. tries to give arion one, but he pretty much just eats it. she was horrified. never again. on nico’s next birthday, she does give him a skull teddy, having discovered they make great gifts, and although he just smiles and rolls his eyes at people laughing, he loves it. it has a prized place next to will solace on his pillow.
jason grace ☁️
bless his soul, he was raised by wolves. he did not have access to any aspect of a regular childhood, nor did he ever resent that. but he did have a scrap of a thing he received from thalia as a baby, almost losing all of it’s stuffing over the years and a single button eye left. but he kept it the whole time, and it brings him a lot of nostalgic comfort. now, as for your teddies, he has no problem sharing your bed with them. they’re comfortable and cute. they aren’t the strict upbringing he experienced at camp jupiter, but he’s discovered many things he’s enjoyed outside of that part of his life. and he’ll make sure to keep you as far away from octavian as possible, and his bloody stuffed animal massacre. puts his glasses on them as placeholders.
leo valdez 🪛
doesn’t see the hype. kidding - kind of. the concept of stuffed animals don’t bother him. they’re cute, they’re fun to make interact with each other (+ put in weird poses because let’s be real if rick’s target audience wasn’t children there’d be twenty sex jokes per any chapter featuring leo), and he has nothing against them. but he does have an innate desire to make them “more interesting”. this includes a lot of lasers and fire and weaponry. “leo, i do not want to lay in bed with my head against a bunch of cogs and risk accidentally shaving my eyebrows off, or worse.” “... no fun.” he will buy/find you more and more, regardless, the pile everygrowing.
percy jackson 🐳
sally jackson got percy some kind of fish teddy the second he was born, partly as a joke, partly as a small vice for her mild disgruntlement at the god’s customary absentee parenting style. he was never particularly attached to it, but i think he’d take it to camp in the summer - he’s got no teasing bunkmates to worry about, tyson’s too much of a sweetheart, and it’s a connection to his mum more than his dad. he may gift it to you at some point. i can see him always checking on your teddies before leaving your room, just to make sure nobody’s been knocked to the ground. he knows you wouldn’t let him hear the end of it if they had. he thinks it’s pretty sweet, your collection, and will buy you one or two before it grows so big he insists you don’t need anymore.
piper mclean 🤎
as a kid, she got iphones and designer handbags, not teddy bears. she never really cared for them, maybe charming her way into stealing a couple, for the kleptomania. it doesn’t, at first, cross her mind when she sees them all on your bed. when she sees you with them, curled up after a hard quest or a long day, however, she finds herself thinking how genuinely nice it is to relax with fluffy things and not much to do. when you gift her a few, she doesn’t necessarily name them or form an emotional attachment, but she does think they’re nice, and will frequently curl with them if she’s tired.
