four times teddy and arizona hooked up (and one time they didn’t)
arizona is sad because callie wants kids and teddy is sad because owen dragged her halfway across the country as a gift for a girlfriend she didn’t even know existed. the bar is packed, and 100% most definitely not joe’s. teddy downs her fourth shot of tequila, and arizona drunkenly follows the long line of the other blonde’s neck to her prominent collarbone. when teddy escapes to the bathroom, arizona moves after her, stumbling through the crowd. she kisses her friend against the sinks, but is more than surprised when teddy pushes her against the door, hands already under her skirt. (really, arizona has to stop fucking women in bathrooms)
(they never talk about the first time, or how similar it is to another bathroom and another surgeon, a long time ago)
mascara and tears and streaming down her face, too angry at callie and mark and malawi and the whole situation not to care about the amount of alcohol she’s drinking, straight from the bottle. teddy leans closer to make sure she’s alright, and then arizona’s tongue is down her throat, tastes like gin. arizona should feel a bit worse about fucking her best friend on her living room floor, especially when teddy’s back is bright red with rug burn, but she doesn’t. it fills something up in arizona, but she’s sure that feeling isn’t permanent.
(”listen--” arizona catches teddy’s arm. “it’s okay.” teddy replies, smiles softly but it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “you don’t have to say anything.”)
when she sees teddy again, with her perfect hair and perfect legs, arizona wants to snap her in half. somehow she keeps on seeing her, even though the conference is huge. on the last night, teddy’s knocking on her door. “we you really planning on avoiding me this whole time?” when they kiss, it hurts, and arizona likes it -- like the pricks of pain when teddy’s nails sink into her back, like when teddy whimpers when she bites her neck.
(”do you want to talk about it?” teddy asks after, much too gently, and arizona sobs.)
“i’ve missed you.” teddy nudges her as arizona drops her off at her hotel room, late at night. “god, i know we haven’t talked lately, but i really don’t have anyone i’m close to in germany and---” arizona kisses her, smiles against her lips when teddy doesn’t hesitate to move her hands to her waist “teddy?” “hmm?” “stop talking.” they’re not drunk, they’re not angry, and arizona can’t pretend that it’s a mistake, not really, not when teddy’s kissing her likes she means it.
(arizona falls asleep with her face buried in teddy’s hair, and for the first time since eliza left, she doesn’t feel so alone.)
it’s pouring rain, but arizona stands outside, lighting up a cigarette anyway, letting herself get soaked. teddy stands next to her, hair plastered against her face, and arizona turns to face her.“do you ever think about it? if we ever....could have been something more?”
(”I’m sorry,” arizona closes her eyes, shakily exhales. teddy laughs sadly. “i’m sorry, too.)
