Giving In
The last of the Tedromeda for a little while until I can finish some of the WIPs I have for them.
Their first time, non-explicit.
Read on AO3
The first time Andromeda Black kisses him, Ted is convinced that his Nan was right because heaven surely exists.
It’s been a few weeks since he found Andromeda in the beer garden at The White Lion, but they haven’t had the chance to talk about that night. He’s been on night shifts for a few weeks, meaning the most he’s seen of her is brief glimpses as they pass in the lobby.
He runs into Nora in line at the tea room one evening, who explains that Andromeda’s experiment for her Fellowship is at a crucial stage, and she barely leaves the lab, working long hours testing her potion, making changes and testing again.
But somehow she’s never there when he drops by.
He puts it down to bad timing and tries not to think over every tiny detail of that night. Tries not to wonder if he said something wrong, or did something wrong. Something that’s making her avoid him.
Luckily it’s been busy the last few weeks, in the lead-up to Christmas people get too drunk at the work Christmas do, or they try to put up their own decorations on the roof without safety spells, or chop down their own trees, resulting in a higher-than-normal accident rate. He’s been dashing from patient to patient all shift, just to keep on top of things.
It’s nearing midnight when he finally manages to get off the ward, the last of a group of lads who had drunk some nearly lethal eggnog finally discharged and sent home, and heads to the locker room.
Where he finds Andromeda sitting on the worn out couch that had probably been there for decades, eyes closed and breathing deeply, wearing a Muggle dress instead of her usual lavender Researcher robes.
‘Wotcher?’ He says softly, not sure if she is asleep or not, but her eyes fly open and when she spots him her face lights up instantly. She rises, crossing the room quickly to grab his arms.
‘It works!’ She’s bouncing on her toes, smiling up at him expectantly, but seeing his confused look she elaborates. ‘My potion! It’s reducing the symptoms of Fwooper’s Cough. It works!’
Her experiment, what she’s been working towards for months, the one thing that is the entire reason for her fellowship.
‘Seriously?’
Andromeda nods, still bouncing on her toes, seemingly unable to keep still in her excitement. Ted gently squeezes her arm with a grin. ‘Congratulations.’ He says earnestly.
She’s looking up at him, her bright smile turning to something softer as she stills. ‘Thank you.’
They both fall quiet and Ted finds himself running his hand slowly down her arm, his eyes following the path it traces along her skin. Andromeda takes a step towards him, her head tilting back as she looks up at him. It would be so easy to lean down and capture her lips with his. He bends his head, his nose brushing against hers.
A sharp wail breaks through the silence, a patient alarm going off somewhere on the floor, and it’s enough to bring them back to reality. She steps back quickly and Ted clears his throat, closing his eyes as he turns to his locker. Stupid , he thinks to himself.
‘How about you buy me a drink to celebrate?’
He pauses in pulling his robes over his head and glances back over his shoulder at her. She’s the picture of innocence, but he gets the feeling that she’s up to something.
He turns back to his locker and pulls off his robes, leaving him in his jeans. ‘It’s after midnight on a Monday, every where's already called last drinks.’ He says over his shoulder.
‘Oh.’ He hears faintly from behind him as he pulls on a clean shirt.  ‘Well, couldn’t we go back to your place?’
Ted stops with his bag halfway out of his locker. His heart is pounding so loudly now that he is sure she can hear it across the room. His mind races with the possibilities, but he doesn't dare hope.
She stepped away.
‘We could.’ He says slowly, and when he turns she’s watching him with an infuriatingly unreadable expression. ‘If you want to.’
‘I want to.’ She says lightly, but it feels falsely casual and he feels like she’s getting exactly what she wants. It would just be nice if he knew what that was.
They head to the apparition point, and she chatters to him about the final changes she needed to make to get her potion to work and the next steps for her fellowship. Ted’s not a bad hand at potions, it’s a requirement to become a healer after all, but she’s on an entirely different level. Most of what she’s saying goes over his head, but he’s happy listening to her.
At the apparition point, she takes his arm, pressing closer than is necessarily required for side-along and once again he feels like this is all a part of a plan that he hasn’t been clued in on. He is surrounded by a floral scent, her perfume maybe, or her shampoo, and for the first time in a while has to concentrate hard on the three D’s.
They land in the little laneway near his flat and Andromeda looks completely out of place as they step out into the rundown street. Ted’s sure she’s never stepped foot in East London before tonight and he resists the urge to apologise for it. He leads her into his building, locking the front door quietly behind them so they don’t wake Mrs Crankshaw, his downstairs neighbour.
They head up the narrow staircase, and Andromeda is still watching him with that unreadable expression that is driving him mad while he unlocks the door to his flat, opening it up and standing aside so she can enter first.
As he follows her in, a wave of his wand lights the small lamp on his bedside table and he sets his bag down by the door, locking it behind him. He watches her as she takes in his small, one-room flat. The lumpy sofa he found on the street and bribed his mates with beer to help him carry it upstairs, the tiny dining table with one chair shoved into the corner next to the kitchenette. The only other door which leads to the bathroom next to his bed that’s pushed up under the window.
He looks away quickly, clearing his throat and trying not to remember every fantasy he has had about her in his flat. Her short skirt isn’t helping, but his Mum and his Nan raised him to be a gentleman.
Instead, he moves to the kitchenette, pulling out two glasses. ‘I’ve only got Scotch.’ He says. His back is to her, but he feels her turn towards him. He can feel her watching him.
‘That’s fine.’
He pours the drinks and hands one to her. She accepts it with a small smile, clinking her glass against his.
They drink in silence, watching each other carefully. Eventually, it’s too much and he breaks the silence with the question that’s been on his mind since he found her in the locker room.
‘Aren’t your folks wondering where you are?’
A dangerous gleam fills her eyes, one that matches the Cheshire grin on her face. ‘I told them I’d be working all night.’ That too-casual lilt is back in her voice, but this time it has an edge to it, one he thinks he should be wary of.
Ted watches as she contemplates the Scotch, swirling the glass elegantly. ‘Andromeda.’ He says, his voice low. ‘What are you doing?’
She laughs softly to herself before she looks back up at him. She holds his gaze, dark eyes pinning him in place. ‘Breaking the rules.’
Her eyes stay on him as she brings the glass to her lips, her neck tilting back elegantly as she swallows the last of the drink and his fingers itch with the sudden urge to reach for her, to press his lips to her neck, to find out if her skin tastes as glorious as it does in his dreams.
Instead, he downs the rest of his own drink and takes her glass, careful not to brush his fingers against hers, the fragile tension in the room feels like it will break with the smallest touch and he doesn’t know what will happen if it does. He leaves the glasses on the kitchenette and retreats to the arm of the sofa, leaning against it to try and put some distance between them.
She stays infuriatingly still, watching him the entire time. It feels like the air is shimmering between them, waiting for a spark to light them both In the dim light, he sees her eyes flick to the bed behind him. He doesn’t dare turn and follow her gaze, he feels frozen, waiting for her to decide what will happen.
He knows he will do whatever she asks.
Her gaze drags back to him, and after a moment, she closes the small distance between them, moving slowly, purposefully, hypnotising him with each step. Ted’s heart pounds loudly again as she reaches out, resting her hand lightly against his neck. His breath is heavy as he drags his eyes up to meet hers, only to find her looking at his lips.
‘Can I kiss you?’
He nods.
Finally, after more than a year of wanting this, of dreaming about this, her lips descend on his.
The first kiss is gentle. A barely-there brush of her lips against his. But even with this first, soft taste, he knows it will never be enough.
He opens his mouth under hers, deepening the kiss as he stands, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her to him, relishing in her soft curves as they press against him. She gasps softly against his mouth and it drives him wild. Every sound he draws from her somehow makes him want her more, which he didn’t think was possible.
He drags his fingers down her back, the fabric of her dress giving way to the smooth skin of her thigh. Moving his hand up and under the skirt of her dress, he easily finds the perfect curve of her arse, his fingertips brushing lace.
But Andromeda pulls back, panting as she breaks their kiss. His eyes are half closed and his lips follow hers instinctively, but before they find hers again, she speaks. ‘I don’t…I’ve never.’ She takes a breath and won’t quite meet his eye. ‘I haven’t done this before.’
It takes a moment for what she’s saying to break through the fog that’s clouding his mind, a long moment where all Ted can do is blink at her, but as soon as he realises what she means, he steps back, hands clenching at his side as they leave her body. ‘It’s ok,’ he tells, ‘We can stop.’
He won’t push her. Christ, this night has already been more than he had ever dared hope for. He opens his mouth to reassure her, but she’s shaking her head, reaching for him, stepping back into his arms and pressing her body against his. ‘I want this. Just…show me what to do.’
So he shows her.
It’s better than anything he ever dared dream.
Afterwards, when they’re curled together, still breathing heavily and Ted can’t quite believe what’s just happened, Andromeda looks up from where her head is resting on his chest.
‘Was it good for you too?’ She asks quietly.
He shoots her a disbelieving look, a shocked laugh bubbling from his throat. ‘I can definitely say it was.’ She grins again and he gently rolls her onto her back. ‘Stay here a moment.’ He tells her, hopping up to duck into the bathroom, he washes up quickly before grabbing a washcloth and running it under warm water.
Back in bed, he gently cleans her skin, making her blush. ‘Ted, you don’t have to.’ She protests, reaching for the washcloth.
But he smirks at her. ‘I always clean up my messes, sweetheart.’ He jokes, dropping a kiss to the clean skin of her thigh as she giggles.
Throwing the washcloth through the open bathroom door, he crawls back up her body, kissing her softly before laying beside her, wrapping her in his arms and pulling her into his chest.
It’s just when he’s beginning to drift off that she speaks. ‘I should go.’ She says softly.
‘No.’ He says selfishly, tightening his hold on her, wanting to keep her with him.
But she’s already untangling herself from his arms, dragging the sheet with her to keep herself covered as she slides out of bed. Spotting her bra and pants she collects them from the floor. ‘I need to get home.’
He doesn’t know what to say, so he watches as she pulls a pair of robes out of her bag. ‘Mirror?’ She asks, and he points her to the bathroom.
He climbs out of bed, finding his own discarded pants and pulling them on. When she comes out of the bathroom she’s dressed in the robes and her hair is pinned perfectly. She looks every part the perfect Pureblood daughter.
Ted hates it.
‘Are you sure you have to go?’ She gives him a sad smile, and steps close to him, one hand pressing against his bare chest as she stands on her toes to kiss him. It feels like a goodbye.
‘Thank you.’ She says, and he hates the finality of it.
With a wave of her wand, Andromeda’s dress flies from where it lay, rumpled on the floor, neatly folding itself into her purse. Realising she’s about to leave, Ted picks up his jeans. ‘I’ll walk you to the laneway.’
‘I’ll be fine.’ She says.
‘It’s a rough part of London…’ He starts, but she holds her wand up pointedly.
‘I’ll be fine, Ted.’ She says firmly. He nods dumbly. He wants to ask her to let him know when she gets home safe, but he doesn’t have a fireplace and by the time an owl gets here he’ll be seeing her at work.
‘Be safe.’ He says, feeling a bit hopeless as he follows her to the door. She throws him a sweet smile.
And then she’s gone, leaving Ted to lock the door behind her and turn to his flat.
It’s never felt so empty before.

blood of the covenant/water of the womb
The Black sisters are so tragic.
I mean, imagine:
As kids, Narcissa is the baby sister that the elder two dote on, while both Narcissa and Andromeda look up to Bellatrix, the proud, beautiful, powerful, accomplished, perfect eldest sister, who has always known who she is and where she's going, but especially Andromeda, since they look so alike she's always been encouraged to act like her too but since Narcissa doesn't have the stereotypical Black looks and her parents didn't follow the Black naming scheme she's encouraged to be her own person a little bit more.
At Hogwarts they're all Sorted into the same House, Slytherin, which only increases their bond. Bella does really well at school, probably the top of her class, which makes Andy, who's only a year or two behind hyperaware of where the bar is. She walks, talks, and dresses like Bella.
Until
Andy follows in Bella's footsteps (who's probably Head Girl by now) and becomes a prefect, but she gets assigned to do rounds with a Muggle-born Hufflepuff. And despite everything she'd been taught, everything she knows to be true, she finds herself falling for him and the worst part is she can't tell anyone, even Bella, the one she has always been able to confide in, always reassured her and set her on the right path.
Meanwhile Druella and Cygnus are arranging Bellatrix's marriage to Roldophus, someone she doesn't even like never mind attracted to but because she's the perfect Black and the perfect daughter she has to do it. And Andromeda sees and fears how she could get trapped, too, how there's another Lestrange boy in her year.
Meanwhile a strange foreign Dark Lord comes to dinner and he's so different to Roldophus and all those other men who think because she's a woman she must be weak and she's just a vessel for their pureblood children. And despite the way she shouldn't feel this way, Bella doesn't care. He listens to Bella's opinions and he takes her seriously and he sees her magical talent and her thirst to prove herself and he's not scared of her in the way others say that she's 'too intense.' And when he offers to train her, and adds that he never does this, she says, one better, I'll follow you.
Andromeda and Narcissa watch this strange man burn the Dark Mark into their sister's arm and they don't know what to think. Narcissa's scared Bella will put herself in danger, that she'll do too much, give too much of herself because she doesn't know when to pull back. And Andy's scared Bella's going down a path she cannot follow, because deep down she can't say she believes in blood supremacy, can't say she hates Ted and she can't figure out a way through so she leaves.
It's like part of Bella's heart has been ripped out. They were all close, the Blacks, but Andy and Bella had a certain je ne sais quoi, they were thick as thieves and inseparable. Bellatrix is the one who burns Andromeda off the tapestry, crying while she does it, the scorned love for her sister, the anger and shame that Andy chose that Mudblood over her turning that love to bottomless hate.
Meanwhile Narcissa, the lucky one, watches it all. Narcissa is the one that gets it all, she's the only one who's able to marry for love and stay with her family but there's also this Andromeda-shaped hole in her and there's a Slytherin resentfulness of being Bellatrix's supporting act.
Every night that Bella is on a mission, Narcissa stays up, even while pregnant with Draco, until she knows her sister is safe.
That fateful Halloween she waits and waits and waits but Bellatrix never comes home. When she finds out her last remaining sister is serving life she completely breaks down. Won't sleep, won't eat. The thought of leaving Draco without a mother is the only thing that helps her hold on. Regulus, Andromeda and Sirius are dead/burned off the tapestry/imprisoned; she and Draco are the last Blacks, that makes their bond even stronger, makes her scared of losing him like she did her sisters. She curses Voldemort for putting her in danger, aware of her feelings for him and that Bella would do anything for them, swears she'll never let that happen to her son.
All the while Andy raises her daughter, who hates the name she gave her in the same way Andy know she would hate the Blacks. Narcissa and Andy watch each other from across crowds; Tonks and Draco are never at school together, never know more than scattered off-hand mentions of a cousin on their mother's side. But both Narcissa and Andy fantasize of a reconcilation, of Tonks babysitting Draco while they rekindle their bond. Neither bridges the gap. That burn, that rift cannot be healed. But they still ache for each other.
When Voldemort returns that fear for Draco grows, but it's tempered with the joy of having Bella back after mourning her for 14 years -- Bella, traumatized, starved, jagged and torn up at the edges, different, but alive.
And just like knowing he was innocent kept Sirius sane, Bella's love and trust of Voldemort is what made her able to hang on. Yes, they're both drastically different physically (the snake face and the emaciation) and mentally (both shaken, less confident), but everything else can be the same. Maybe better.
But everyone is scared. It's not the same world, where the Death Eaters have control and are undefeated. Voldemort is scared of that boy, Narcissa is scared for Draco. It's clear things are not the same, things are not normal. Far from it. Fear makes Voldemort angry, and cold, and distant and nothing she does feels good enough.
And that boy -- lying hateful filthy boy -- he dares suggest that her Voldemort's filthy-blooded like him. No, he must just be taunting her, scaring her. But there are things Voldemort's said, things he's done -- she would notice, the way she hangs on every word he speaks and plays their conversations in her head over and over again in Azkaban -- Bellatrix just does her best to silence it and block it out, all these confusing things, she's a great Occlumens after all.
She'll make things certain, make things right, trim off the weakness, cut out the sickness. Like Sirius. Like that young woman with Andromeda's face and Andromeda's laugh, that filthy half-blood Andy left her to create.
Narcissa can't keep Draco safe like she, the baby sister, couldn't keep Bellatrix safe. When Voldemort burns the Dark Mark into his skin she sees her son emaciated and dead-eyed.
To assuage Narcissa's fears Bellatrix trains Draco like Voldemort trained her; but he's not the same, he's weak, he's moralistic, he looks at her with wide scared eyes and he's a failure. The glory of the Blacks is gone.
All the while, Narcissa's fear grows, when Lucius is imprisoned, when Voldemort's ire turns on her family, on her son, sets him an impossible task. The despair she feels, she hasn't felt for nearly sixteen years -- Bellatrix more interested in eking out morsels of approval from Voldemort and turning her frustration on Draco, and Narcissa by extension.
All the while, Andromeda's fear for her daughter grows, of the danger she puts herself in as an Auror and a member of the Order, and she's reminded of Bellatrix, of how she gives everything of herself and how Nymphadora does too, begging, begging her to hold back.
She's not good enough for him, not with the sickness, the weakness still clinging to her. Bellatrix very much wants to kill the woman with Andy's face. She's always been perfect. It's everyone else around her that's wrong, everyone else who has to go. She'll do better. Try harder.
And when the Snatchers catch that filthy boy, and he slides out of her grasp like a buttered eel, Bellatrix hits the bottom rung of the ladder of despair. She doesn't know who she is, anymore.
Voldemort's retaliation and rejection breaks Bellatrix's heart, but it hardens Narcissa's.
Bellatrix will do anything to make him happy. She finally kills the witch with Andy's face -- do you see -- do you love me now -- but he's still cold, still frightened, still different, and she despairs, but it will be all over when Harry Potter is dead and he can breathe again. They've won. It will be alright. It will go back to normal. She can have it all again -- Voldemort and Narcissa and her perfect, pruned family.
Narcissa will do anything to keep him safe. And so she chooses Draco's life, she lies, her heart in her throat, in front of her beloved sister, to the Dark Lord, with unshed tears in her eyes and Harry Potter's 'corpse' before her.
Bellatrix's death is something Narcissa knew was coming, deep down She mourned her sister sixteen years ago and she mourns her now, but it will all be worth it if Draco survives this ordeal; Potter must win, he must live, Voldemort must die. And Bellatrix will never allow this.
She wishes she could tell Andy that she understands.

microfic - lesbian tedromeda!! | 2k words | kiki’s delivery service au
this one’s for my angel @stillagoodwitch and also (mainly) for cat (want u to read it aloud to her please, do u think she ships tedromeda??)
Andromeda thought she was doing well, all things considered.
She’d made it to the ocean, flown through the night to a seaside city with no other witches where she could settle down and start her new life, and no lightning bolts had come down from the sky to smite her, no demons had come from the manor to try and drag her back.
She was free and she was doing well.
She had Cat, her cat, all her savings and, of course, her broom and she thought she was making a good first impression on the townspeople, smiling politely and floating overhead in the early morning sun as she looked for somewhere to land.
It was a busy city, busier than anywhere she had ever been - people bustling across the pavements, cars rushing through the streets - but she thought that was probably a good thing, the change, the freedom, the anonymity of crowds.
She moved out into the road a little to fly under a bridge and - swerved as quickly as she could to the left to avoid being run over by a truck that was coming through the other way. Her broom lurched off sideways, her elbow scraping against the wall of the bridge as she flew away from it - directly into the path of another car.
It was louder now, cacophonous even, cars screeching to stops and beeping their horns at her as she tried desperately to get her broom back under control, swinging this way and that and nearly hitting another three cars before the broom sped off down the pavement, Andromeda still clinging on, pedestrians jumping out of her way.
She managed to stop, hovering in the air just around the corner from all the chaos she had caused, and lowered herself, and Cat, who had also been hanging on for dear life, and her savings and her broom, down onto the pavement with a sigh of relief.
Andromeda took a deep breath before looking up at the people who had stopped to stare at her, trying to smile her friendliest smile, which was rather unpractised, trying to look like she knew what she was doing and like she belonged there and like she wasn’t a complete disaster.
She wasn’t entirely sure how well she was succeeding but she smoothed down her hair and after a few moments everyone started to move about their days again.
Turning to Cat, who was perched on her shoulder now, she said “Well, I think-“
“What do you think you’re doing flying around like that?!” Shouted someone who had marched up behind her. Andromeda turned to see what looked like a policeman, still yelling at her, “You could’ve caused a crash! In fact, you’re lucky you didn’t!”
“Sorry, sir,” Andromeda stepped back against the wall behind her, trying to think what she was supposed to do in this kind of situation, it wasn’t really something she had ever been taught to deal with and for all that she was doing well, for all the she was freer and happier, she was started to feel a little overwhelmed, “I’m still getting used to how busy the city is, I just got here today, you see”
The policeman looked unimpressed, “That’s no excuse, you should still know better than to fly around causing a ruckus like that, someone could’ve got seriously hurt!”
Andromeda frowned a little, because surely it hadn’t been that dangerous, she knew she was a good flyer and it wasn’t like it was her fault that the truck had suddenly appeared like that, but she thought it unwise to say, so she let the man continue his tirade.
“Now,” he said finally, pulling out a notebook and flipping it open, “What’s your name and address?”
Andromeda opened her mouth, racking her brains to think of a suitable answer because she wasn’t sure if her name was really hers anymore, she thought her parents would probably have burnt her off the family tree by now, once they had woken up and discovered that she was gone, and she certainly wasn’t going to give out her old address but she didn’t yet have a new one to use instead. She was alone, and she didn’t have a home anymore and she desperately didn’t want this policeman to get in contact with her parents so all that she could come up with to say in the end was, “Um…”
“Don’t even think about lying to me, girl,” the policeman frowned at her, tapping his pen against the top of his notebook, “And hurry it up, I haven’t-“
Just then, he was interrupted by a shout of “Stop! Thief! Somebody stop him! Thief!” and he hurried off around the corner towards the noise, telling Andromeda to wait where she was and not move a muscle.
Andromeda stood there for a second or two, then relaxed her shoulders, turning towards Cat again, “That was lucky”
Cat nodded sagely, agreeing with her, and they wandered away in the other direction, slipping in between the other pedestrians and taking the next turning they came across.
She was taking it as a good sign, a symbol that maybe some god was smiling upon her running away - she knew she had done the right thing, knew she couldn’t have stayed there for a single day longer, she wasn’t sure what she would’ve done if she’d had to come up with a name and address for the policeman.
Running away had been like shedding her name, her last name at least, like an old coat, like a skin that didn’t quite fit right over her bones. The further she had flown from that manor, the more at peace she had felt, something settling in her.
So maybe the two of them, Andy and Cat, weren’t off to the best start but they had still been fairly lucky; at least they hadn’t been hit by any of those cars, at least they didn’t have to give up their old address and at least they weren’t currently being dragged back across the country to Black manor and the parents who Andromeda wasn’t sure would even let her in anymore, to the sisters, who she had been trying quite desperately not to think about, who she wasn’t sure would even want to speak to her anymore.
She had Cat, and her savings, and her broom, and she was going to make a new life for herself. She was free, and she wasn’t going back, and things were going to work out. Andromeda was repeating that like a mantra as she and Cat walked down a side street, trying to decide where to go from there.
“Hey! Hey, wait!” Came a voice from behind them, it wasn’t the policeman, it was a much younger voice, so Andromeda didn’t immediately break into a run, but it put her a little on edge nevertheless. She wasn’t sure what this person wanted so she didn’t turn to face them, continuing to walk onwards,
“Hey, that was pretty good, right?” the person was beside her now, Andromeda peered at them out of the corner of her eye, a person around her age on a bicycle, pedalling along in time with her steps, “I was the one who called thief, it was a distraction, I helped you get away, right?”
Andromeda turned her head slightly to look at them but didn’t reply, still walking along, struggling to suppress the instinctive sneer at the person’s unkempt hair and untidy clothing. She wasn’t her father, she wasn’t a Black, not anymore, but as much as she had shed that skin and felt better for it, there were things that had been drilled into her since birth that would take more than one night on a broomstick and a fifty odd miles to remove.
“Oi Teddy!” someone else called out from a group of teenagers gathered outside a shop, speaking to the person on the bike, who Andy now assumed was named Teddy, “Isn’t it a bit early to be on the prowl?”
Andromeda frowned, wondering whether she should be offended and feeling slightly out of her depth, more than she already had been. Teddy’s only response was a middle finger - frightfully vulgar, said her mother's voice in her head - and Andromeda worried this would lead to some act of violence or something, but the other teenagers barely batted an eye, just laughing in response.
“Shut up,” laughed Teddy back, and then proceeded to nearly crash into a lamppost because they hadn’t been concentrating on the road in front of them. Andromeda lips twitched, wanting to smile in spite of herself, as she continued to walk on, watching all of this out of the corner of her eye and studiously pretending that she wasn’t.
Teddy cycled a little quicker to catch up with her again, “Hey, can I have a look at your broom? It’s so cool that you can fly like that”
Andromeda kept walking, acting like she hadn’t even heard. She wasn’t used to speaking with people her age, or with anyone who wasn’t her family really, and she didn’t know how she was supposed to behave. There was a part of her that found this all quite endearing, but it was being drowned out by panic and frustration and an insistent need to be alone.
“Please could I just have a quick look?” Teddy continued, undeterred by her lack of response, “I love flying, I just wanna see what your broom is like - It could be payment for how I helped you out with the policeman”
At that, Andromeda stopped, turning sharply to look at the person still cycling beside her.
“I didn’t ask for your help!” she said, a little angry now, probably a little irrationally, she had never been good at controlling her temper, she was a Black after all, or she used to be, “I didn’t want your help. I suppose I have to thank you for it now but it was rude of you to not even introduce yourself”
Andromeda started walking again, frustrated at herself for snapping like that but also frustrated when out of the corner of her eye she saw Teddy recover from their moment of shock and grin, wide and bright, pedalling to get beside her again.
“I’m Ted,” they said, still smiling, and Andromeda didn’t know why that made her feel all warm inside, like that smile could solve all her problems, could calm the stormy seas that were constantly waging war on her, trying to pull her under. Then Ted, not Teddy, which must be a nickname, spoke again, “Now I’ve introduced myself, can I please have a look at your broom? Pretty please?”
Andromeda huffed, a bit discomfited by how friendly they were despite her rudeness, a bit annoyed by their persistence, entirely out her depth and clinging on to her pride and her anger like they were life jackets, a last bastion of familiarity in this new life where everything was new.
“No,” she snapped, harsh and definitive, “Leave me alone.”
She felt a bit pathetic as she stomped away, unsure why she had gotten so worked up like that, her anger gone almost as soon as it had arrived, disappointed in herself and the way she had behaved, worried that she was still too much like her family, like she would never be able to escape them even as she left them behind.
Andromeda didn’t know how she was meant to interact with this person, or any person really, she was beginning to worry that she didn’t know anything at all, overwhelmed by the newness of the city, the crowds and the buildings and the sense that she was on the outside, looking in on something that she might never be able to be a part of, uncomfortable with how Ted was trying to invite her in.
She turned a corner and got on her broom, flying away quickly and aimlessly, confused and maybe a little upset but mostly at herself. Andromeda, with Cat sat on the handle of the broom now, wondered whether this new life might be just a tad more difficult than she had first anticipated.

Clip, Ravel, Cleave by @vdoshu (E, 15k, Andromeda/Bellatrix, Andromeda/Ted)
Before Andromeda met Ted, she was a Black, through and through. While years later the story was told that she’d turned her back on her family’s dark ways, in truth, nothing was so simple. In the beginning, it was just Andromeda and Bella. And it was just the two of them until it was too much.
I'm just fucking STUNNED by this fic. The horror and recovery of it. The meaning of it. The feeling of leaving a horrifically abusive relationship for a healthy one. Love as control and then love as care and forgiveness. It's hot and disturbing and hopeful and loving all at once. I'm just so obsessed with it. There's just so much here!

@hprecfest Days 1-16
1. A favorite fic under 5k
Ten things I hate about Sirius Black by Remus Lupin, with annotations by Sirius Black and with notes From James Potter by Stella Lupa (clemmy)
One of my absolute FAVE fics ever, I don’t even know how I came across it but I’m so happy I did, it’s cute, it’s a little silly, it’s made me laugh, and it’s such a quick and worth it read!
2. A comfort fic
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? by @where-is-vivian
I love this fic so much it’s so sweet and cute and has just a cozy feeling to it. I love the writing style and how well it fits with the fic itself and ughhh I can talk about it all day.
A Full Guide To Gardening For Amateurs by aphrsditea
This one UGH, I cannot give enough praise to this one. I love it soooo much and it really just shows how much the author loves these characters and the story they’re telling. Definitely go read this if you haven’t.
3. A podfic
Little One [Podfic] by DemonFeedAudio
This isn’t what I normally read (or listen to for that matter) but it’s so sweet and soft and I do admittedly have a soft spot for age regression/de-aging fics and this one is an absolute fave!
4. A fic with art
the immaculate consumption by @divinerapturee
I looooove this fic and the concept of it. Such a unique and creative fic that’s beautifully written and has amazing accompanying art by @aspiring-artist-em
5. A non-A03 fic
Magical Menagerie by DorthyAnnDrarry
Okay yes, I’m reccing a wattpad fic but how can I not when it’s THIS good. Honestly my memory is a little fuzzy with this fic but I absolutely adore it and it’s so cute and a comfort drarry fic.
6. An unreliable narrator fic
We’re All Mad Here by Anonymous
This fic was revealed today (author revealed Dec. 22nd) and it’s what inspired me to actually do hprecfest! It’s soooo good and has a nice balance of angst and under layer of love. The unreliable narration makes it soooo perfect and even a little satisfying. You stay a little confused but it’s worth it and to see the two perspectives is sooo amazing. Definitely worth reading.
7. A canon-compliant fic
Mistletoe and Mischief by Natasha_Grey
This was another recent release but I HAD to include it. I ended up reading it late last night/early this morning and it’s just so warm and cozy. Definitely not what you’re thinking when you think canon compliant but it’s such a cute Hogwarts moment between Sirius and Remus and ughhh I love it.
8. A canon-divergence fic
the rush of rarities by bizarrestars
Canon divergence in which there’s no Voldemort. I LOVE this fic it’s so sweet and cute and nice and just has my favorite characterizations of Lily and Pandora. It’s one of the fics that 100% sold me on pandalily and I’m so glad it did. They’re an amazing pairing and the way bizzarestars writes them>>
9. A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on A03)
cheerful oblivion by @invisiblemuseum
With less than 10 fics on ao3 I of course had to rec an Evan(s) and what fic better than the one that made me insane about them. Such an amazing fic and also just my favorite Lily to ever Lily in a fic.
10. A fest fic
Needy Little Thing by @stagpdf
This was written for @marauders-omegaverse-fest and it’s an amazing fic. I love omega James and alpha Reg and it’s something that was written so, so well here! Also just the smut is so well written even outside of how well omega James and alpha Reg are written.
11. A dark fic
To Taste The Rotted, Putrefied Gates of Heaven (Per Rubare il Respiro Di Dio) by @greenvlvetcouch
One of my all time favorite rosekiller fics, the way green writes is so satisfying and amazing. The characterizations and the execution of this fic is stunning. And what’s not to love about Barty and Evan fucking each other to death?
12. A WIP you're following
presque vu by bizarrestars
I LOVE this wip fic like it’s my own child, it’s soooo so good and also just an amazing canon compliant fic. It truly captures the essence of Sirius Black in my eyes and I just love it. I’m like sooo behind on this fic but it’s fine because I know when I get back into the groove of readying that it’ll be just as amazing as where I left off. Totally worth the read especially if you love a good angst fic.
13. A fic with over 100k words
Away Childish Things by @letteredlettered
One of my all time favorite drarry fics. There’s angst, there’s fluff, there’s hurt/comfort there’s everything. I love love love this fic and I can’t get enough of it, it’s definitely worth the read and if you love drarry there’s no way you’re not going to be binging this because it’s that good.
14. A favorite series
A Moral Obligation by Quietlemonhush
One of my all time favorite series on AO3 or like ever! It’s such a good binge read and I love everything this author puts out (so much I had to rec them twice) and I can’t wait to see if they add any more to this series because I’m gonna be right there reading it.
Scent of The Moon by Quietlemonhush
This series is feel good with a bit of angst, a bit of smut, and honestly a bit of anything. You can definitely find some crack fics in this series and also just amazing, amazing works with some amazing pairings. Did I mention how amazing it is?
lilyrosekiller shenanigans by @quillkiller
There’s nothing I love more than a good rarepair and this series feeds me it!! Lilyrosekiller is SUCH an amazing and underrated ship and the way quillkiller writes it is so, so, so amazing and I love reading anything she puts out!
15. The most recent fic you bookmarked
I’ve come home by @strwbi-laces
I actually bookmarked this a while ago but everything before it is already on this list soooo. Either way this DESERVES to be on this list it’s truly amazing and well written. Not only can you see the love the author has for these characters but also just the love these characters have for each other. It’s amazingly well written and I encourage everyone to go read it if you haven’t.
16. A fic that made you laughed
my almost lover by @alarainai
This fic had me laughing and smiling it’s so sweet even with the bit of angst. And there’s something so silly but James Potter being a little bit of an idiot when it comes to his own relationship.

@hprecfest Day 24: a holiday fic
I couldn't choose just one!
How Teddy Lupin Got His Christmas Stocking, by CelesteMagnolia | @celestemagnoliathewriter
The story of the Tonks family's Christmas stockings, starting with Andromeda's and ending with Teddy's. This fic is so lovely - very sweet and well written, and I love the little details that go with each of the stockings!
When It's Cold and There's No Music, by @turanga4
A Neville & Ginny friendship fic that takes place during Deathly Hallows. As they deal with the nightmare that Hogwarts has become, they reminisce about the Yule Ball and look forward to a happier future. It's a very angsty fic, but an excellent one.
first footings, by wheresmejumper
Regulus survives his trip to the cave and ends up hiding with the Potters in Godric's Hollow, spending Christmas and New Year's of 1980 with them. It has MCD and kind of a bittersweet ending, but it's actually really a heartwarming, humorous, feel-good sort of fic. How is that combination possible? I don't know, but it is.
God Rest Ye Merry Hippogriffs, by BennieLee
I mentioned this one before when I recommended the series it's part of, but I've got to bring it up again here. It's got messy Black family dynamics, Regulus (who survived the first war) struggling to figure out how to relate to Andromeda and her family, eleven-year-old Tonks being adorable, and a very awkward Christmas dinner. Seriously, what's not to love?

Not me spending months working on this story and announcing how excited I was about it on my Tumblr…and then forgetting to actually post the AO3 link when I posted it 👀👀
Anyway, the first two chapters of my angsty new canon-compliant (and sapphic) fic are up now, if anyone would like to have a look! Welcome to The Silence of Sisters ♥️♥️

March Fic Recs
I didn't do this in February (shame on me) but I did in January. I'll be more diligent in getting these out for the rest of the year.
I read a BUTTLOAD of fanfic in March but most of it was Pride and Prejudice. I'll start with the Harry Potter ones and then get to the P&P ones. Also, I never know if I should rec fics that were published in the last month, or that I read in the last month. Eh. I'll just go with read in the last month.
Harry Potter fic recs:
Seven Years, Some Odd by quietlemonhush. Tedromeda, oh my goodness I love this so much. Ted is the sweetest man in the whole world in this fic. Warnings for implied SA and abuse.
you couldn't have stuck your tongue down the throat of somebody who loves you more by @akhlysmoon - gorgeous writing (I'm doubly impressed English isn't the author's first language). Tedromeda, not canon compliant, MCD, OUCH. Beautiful writing.
Jealousy by @merlins-sequined-hotpants. We get both Andromeda and Ted being jealous. What's not to love?!
Pride and Prejudice fic recs:
This is a new fandom for me - I've got more to say on that, but I've otherwise been devouring P&P fanfic. Here are some of my favorites:
Most Ardently by @leighmiller. The first 'forced' marriage fic I read of P&P and it's got smut, tension, and awkwardness. Yes, a thousand times yes.
Mutual Pride by Lily_and_Lavender. The first marriage proposal doesn't happen and Colonel Fitzwilliam steps in to save the day. There's courtship and sexiness. Yum yum yum.
Colors by Laure001. HOLY SHIT you have to read this. It's - wow. Just read it. AU where Mr Bennet dies and Lizzy & Darcy are in a forced marriage. So much right, wrong, hurt, and comfort. READ.
The Part of Her Hair by scioscribe. Femslash Mary Bennet/OC. I just loved Mary's characterization, and the relationship with the OFC is delightful.

Andromeda's Unfair Advantage by @nena-96
Nena96 brings us her second work of the day, giving us a total of SIX so far for our monthly mini in honor of Andromeda Black Tonks! This one features a bit of spice - and Andromeda getting what she wants ;) Snippet and link below!
Heavy breathing, and expletives were the only sounds that filled the small room, it’s been a few hours since Andromeda came up with this plan to seduce her loving husband. Not to brag, but she could almost taste the success of getting exactly what she wants. In retrospect she always gets exactly what she wants and this time will be no different. It was only a matter of time before her loving husband, Ted Tonks, agreed to her request.
“Dromeda, please,” she heard Ted groan, as she continued loving him with her soft hands, as she gazed up and saw the lustful inferno in his eyes. She blew him a kiss and indulged in the way he begged for her to put him out of his misery.

HP Rec Fest – Day 9
Day 9 : A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on A03)  for the @hprecfest:
Hard Day's Night- by @merlinsbudgiesmugglers [Tedromeda]
Summary: A busy shift sees Ted running late and all he needs to get out for the day is a dreamless sleep potion. He doesn't expect to also discover the sweetest smile he has ever seen.
***** Even though Tedromeda is a canon pairing, there isn’t much of their stories out there, but it just means we should give them all the love. I adore the way Ted Tonks and Andromeda Black are portrayed in this fic, I’m speaking from experience when I say that once your start reading @MerlinsBudgieSmugglers Tedromeda stories, it will be difficult to stop reading because each story is packed with so much emotions and the dialogues are just so freaking perfect, please check out her entire work collection!
Another little rec:
Shades of Red and Green- by sm_jl on A03 or @voldemorts-tap-shoes on tumblr  [ Narcissa and Molly (non romantic pairing, but a “friendship”]
Summary: Narcissa Black discovers the Room of Requirement and makes an unlikely friend.
****** I never thought I would read a fic about Narcissa and Molly bonding, because we know that these two women are two entirely different people but I’m so glad that I got the chance to read this. The characterization of both women (also Lucius, Arthur, and Bellatrix) is spot on. This is a great drabble of the rarity of both women coming together over their shared love for art.

Recommend your favorite (own) Tedromeda fics 😊😊
How could you make me choose @siriuslychessi??
Ok, the first one has to be Not Tonight. It's the fic that started it all. What was meant to be a cute kissing under the mistletoe fic turned into something so much more.
For some others, I love Sting of Rejection. It's short, but I love it. Ted being sad but trying to be strong for his family. Tonks family cuteness. Baby Tonks being sassy and adorable. What's not to love?
If you want some mutual pining then definitely Temptation. These two idiots not knowing where to look or what to do with their attraction? Love it.
A Bit of Fun - This is one of those fics that I adore but has never really gotten much love. It's the first tedromeda I wrote after Not Tonight and I'm obsessed with the two of them in this fic.
I did this on my phone so I really hope all the links are right. I could go on and on and on, but I think these are my absolute faves (today haha, that could change tomorrow)

2023 Fic Roundup
January-Present
marginalia (266k & counting, WIP, Wolfstar, E)
This story began a long time ago. That part is already written. Nothing can be done about it now. It began with two young men—barely more than boys—who upended the world, magical and mundane alike. Grindelwald and Dumbledore, glorious leaders of the revolution, who brought wizardkind out of hiding and into the light during those last, violent days of 1899. But a winter's night seventy-seven years later is where things really kick off. Because Remus Lupin knows what to expect when you’ve been sold somewhere new. He knows it better than he ever thought he'd have to by this point. He knows how to survive. And Sirius Black is doing his best to just graduate Hogwarts and get himself and his brother away from this goddamn house in one piece. He's got it figured out by now. He has a plan. Neither of them, however, had accounted for the other messing everything up by the sheer fact of just existing. Dystopian AU.
March
twentieth-century boy (2.4k, Wolfstar, E)
On the occasion of Remus Lupin's 19th birthday, Sirius has the perfect present in mind. It involves Padfoot's collar and leash.
May
unstitch that shed-off soul (312, Wolfstar, M)
Sirius Black is eighteen years old, has snogged Remus Lupin nine times, and has seen him without a shirt exactly never. Or, the one where a few boundaries come down.
zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance (251, Wolfstar + James, T)
Sirius has a new hobby, and James doesn't like it one bit.
by any other name (579, Wolfstar + James, E)
James undergoes a Doc Martens-induced identity crisis. Crackfic.
June
there is freedom in the dark (655, Wolfstar, T)
A month ago, Remus wouldn’t have simply allowed himself into the captain's quarters like this, a much-needed reprieve after the dust's settled from taking their latest prize. He definitely wouldn’t have laughed in his face like this, the dread Captain Sirius Black frozen in place, vaguely ridiculous with the question half-caught in his lips. Pirate AU inspired by Black Sails.
July
history books forgot about us (25k, Tedromeda, E)
Andromeda Black meets Ted Tonks quite by accident, and it’s something like mischief at first sight. From the lost papers and mixed-up files of the marginalia universe, the complete history of a relationship that was never meant to happen.

Saturday Snippet (on a Tuesday)
I was on vacay when the immaculate @heartofspells tagged me so hope this still counts. ALSO psh yall think I have anything tumblr-ready to share? NO. BUT.
Because I'm nice.
Have some muggle best-friends-to-secret-fuck-buddies-to-lovers ~*Tedromeda*~ from a fic that will never see the light of day for a whole host of reasons, so don't get attatched.
~
Andromeda was… so much. Brilliant and weird and consistently the most attractive person in the room. Her intensity was her secret: she preserved her hurricane heart behind milky sugared glass, a single saccharine molecule standing between phenomenal cosmic power and a world woefully unprepared. Should the barrier breach with so much as a hairline fracture, Cheshire smiles would melt into fool’s gold beneath her acid tongue; bullshit would die in the backs of throats under her laser beam gaze. All would love her and despair.
Wanda really is the strongest Avenger.
So, no one ever really knew what to do with all of Andromeda because she could not risk the cataclysmic catastrophe of baring all of Andromeda. She lurched through life like that, wrong-footed yet careful: she kept her heart separate from the body the world grabbed at with syrupy-sweet fingers. She slept with men whom she wouldn’t love. She fell in love with women who wouldn’t sleep with her.
Ted knew what he was for Andromeda: A tucked-up corner where she could be safe, either in her body or in her soul, and never the twain shall meet. And he was fine with that. He had to be.
But fuck.
He circled the couch and sat down next to his devil in disguise.
Just look at her.
~
~
~
Tagging idek who has been tagged bc again, vacay, but I will always take more camboy a/b/o @r33sespieces and... let's see... @maybebabyplease got any smut for me?
