They first met in 1295, when the Auld Alliance was created against England. They were in their teens (~15/16)

Cailean actually attempted to learn a little bit of French when knowing the two would meet. This charmed Francis a lot. Despite Cailean's effort, both had difficulties communicating with each other and had to rely on interprets, which made things a bit awkward.

With time and out of the will to know each other, they learned each other's language and became friends.

Cailean liked outdoor activities like fishing or horse riding, while Francis preferred more indoor activities like card and board games or reading. Cailean took a liking to card games thanks to him. Francis was reluctant to get into Cailean's interests at first, but he got into it eventually.

Cailean was the first one to notice how much he liked Francis' presence, and that he seemed to like him more than just as a friend. But he figured that Francis didn't reciprocate because they were allies and were supposed to get along.

Francis also liked Cailean's presence more and more, but he didn't notice it at all. It took him until the Hundred Years Wars to notice it.

The Hundreds Years War was basically the point where the two became lovers. They didn't necessarily confess to each other, it just came to be like that. Someone else (another nation or human) had to point out to the two that they were more than just friends for them to notice.

Francis was always so weak during that war (the beginning at least) so Cailean often had to take care of him. He started to get very protective of the former, in a princess/knight way (@/senditothemoon is partially responsible for this-).

From this point until 1560 they were practically a couple.

In 1560, they separated due to political stuff (with Mary Queen of Scots). They occasionally happened to meet, but otherwise they didn't see each other any more.

However, when, after the Seven Years War, New France changed to British rule, Cailean befriended France's kid and took on the role of a paternal figure.

The two rekindled during/after WWII. The situation both were in reminded them a lot of the Hunderd Years War, and by reminiscing about their past relationship shortly after France's liberation, they realised that they still had feelings for each other.

Francis definitely loves to be all cuddly and lovey-dovey with Cailean when Arthur is around to, you know, tease him.

4. Do they have any scars or tattoos? 

Scotland has plenty of scars; His skin might as well be both a canvas and a memoir. He’s been through a lot and is an all-round, relatively rugged looking individual; Scotland has a large burn scar on his back, the consequence of the Great Fire of Edinburgh when he got caught under a crumbling building (and how he helped to rebuild his city, piece by piece). Gunshot scars and the like pepper his skin, his arms criss-crossed with dozens and dozens of battles. Scotland was a fighter and a protector, his nose broken many times over (a bump on his nose bridge, the bone healed awkwardly) and his chest pierced far too many times for Scotland to remember as little more than a patchwork of terrifying conflicts (a large, gash in between his pecs - calloused and ragged). His hands, too, are scarred and wear the consequence of a lifetime of self-sacrifice; Scotland has far too many for me to recount them all, although the some of the more notable ones are as follows - not in chronological order:

Large burn scar on his back (Great Fire Of Edinburgh, collapsed building)

Laceration scar that goes from his shoulder to across his left pec (Battle Of Rough Wooing, England struck him with a broadsword)

Gunshot wound on his left shoulder (WW1, Battle Of the Somme)

Scar on his cheek (Hundred Years War, Shot by an Arrow)

In terms of tattoos, Scotland does not tend to have any.

5. What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances? 

Oh boy, you want the heartrending stuff? Or well, not heartrending; Quite the opposite actually, Scotland doesn’t tend to cry often and most of the time, he keeps his emotions to himself. The last time that he cried, however, was during his wedding. He’s a very doting individual, loyal to his friends and family, caring deeply for those close to him the most - and a marriage to him, was like an oath of immense proportions. When they exchanged rings, something rare for immortal beings like them (such promises are hard to keep, eternity all too real for them - ‘till death do us part’, except death is almost intagiable for them), Scotland had to hold back tears - and later on, behind closed doors, he stared at France - and wept. 

How did he get so lucky, Scotland wonders, having used to spend his teen years wondering if he would ever make it out alive? Loveless, battle-scarred and shrouded in his own, blinding notions of what was just and right, Scotland did not always consider that there was room for love in his life. That there was room for tenderness and comfort in his life, until France made him tender, made him gentle, until he fell in love with France all those centuries ago. 

He held France close, breathing in his perfumed hair and holding his beautiful hands - if this was an illusion, then let him be blinded; If this was a dream, then let him sleep. Yet, when Scotland looked at France’s eyes and kissed the man he loved, he found this was very, very real - and wept.

I'm curious if people categorize ships in a movie genre sense like I do. Like, teen films would literally be PrUK. RusAme? Basically horror and sci-fi. Itapan is very much a romcom. ScotFra is fantasy, as well as Engita which could also be a period-drama or giallo. Then we have FrUK; pretty much drama and USUK which is of course, action.

Cardverse Fic - GerEng is the main focus, but there will also be Itapan, probably some platonic Al and Art, platonic Arthur and Yao, Scotfra, and so much more. Don’t know when it will be posted since I want to finish one of my other multichapter fics before jumping onto another.

I actually made a post outlining it before but...

Basically Spades used to be a great empire but then after a war with Clubs and Diamonds and the death of their Queen and then their king, they suffered a great loss. Arthur takes the thrown following the war and is left to pick up the pieces alone as the next King is still too young to be crowned.

Despite his best efforts, they remain between a rock and a hard place. People are starving without their farmland (taken during the war), they're deep in debt, their trading partners have severed ties. Yao proposes an alliance with Hearts, the newest kingdom, but because they remained neutral and avoided the war, was no in an era of prosperity and catching up to the other kingdoms who were now riddled with war debt. But in order to truly combine the kingdoms so resources can be shared more freely, a marriage to seal the alliance is in Spades' best interest.

Arthur is opposed to it at first, citing that Spades came into power alone and he'll bring Spades prosperity alone too.

Yao counters that Arthur said he wants to put the people first. They don't have the time to rebuild on their own, plus now Diamonds and Clubs have the upper hand and are breathing down their backs. Plus, Alfred will be crowned soon, so he can take over the duties in Spades while Arthur focuses on the alliance.

In the end, Arthur agrees.

Lud and Art get off on the wrong footing with Lud putting off meeting Arthur because he's nervous.

But they meet. Slowly fall in love. There is also a side plot with ScotFra I'm still hashing out all the details on where Allie was sent to spy on Diamonds because he had a fling with the King when they were teens, but they actually fall in love.

Matthew falling in love with a noble from each kingdom mayhaps. Leading to the creation of an alliance between the four kingdoms (and give Matt his harem). One of them being the rightful king of Clubs (Kateryna).

Also AmeLiet with Alfred housing a runaway Club's noble and them falling in love.

Very much make love not war lol
