Another day of work, another asshole to deal with.
Or so you thought.
Working as “pornstar”, but your preferred term of “adult film star”, was something you didn’t see yourself doing when you were a teen. The idea of getting nude in front of a camera with loads of crew surrounding as you do something that seems so sacred was weird to you back then. But, once college didn’t work out, you had other plans.
One of your homegirls who started off doing porn and soon ventured into the world of OnlyFans gave you the idea to start. And honestly… it was one of the best decisions you’ve made!!
You were soon living lavishly in Tampa, Florida, with $6 million to your name, the most gorgeous mansion, a brand new bright pink Range Rover, the cutest teacup poodle named Rex, food in your fridge, and bills paid. All in under a year.
Regardless of what people may say about you on the internet… sweetheart they were paying your bills.
You were working with some of the best in the industry and millions of views on those videos. Your career seemed to be at its pinnacle, but your manager informed you that there was a group of men starting off in the industry and absolutely taking over. In a little over five months, they were rated the top pornstars in the world.
Hundreds of millions of views on each of their videos and numerous women wanting to start a career just to be able to be near them. Working with them would not only boost your career even further, but to get a chance to fuck a handsome ass Samoan, yes please. In the words of your manager, “We gotta get that dick.”
An interesting choice of words, but you trusted every piece of advice she gave you. Soon, you were on a flight to the ATL to meet up with one of the members of the infamous group.
Doing your research the night prior to your flight, there were three brothers and a cousin. Roman, the cousin, was the oldest and definitely the biggest. A set of twins, Jimmy and Jey, and their younger brother, Solo, who didn’t look so little.
Roman was the one who wasn’t the most booked, as he only worked with the best of the best. Viewers only seeing his work every once in a while. But, when he dropped a video you knew it was gonna be heat. The absolute passion in his strokes and darkness in his eyes made you bite your lip at his raw manly magnitude.
Jimmy was fairly booked, with his whole month practically full. Most of his content involved acting with a lot of backstory. Really diving deep into massive rounds of role play and foreplay. That boy didn’t play games once that time came around though.
Next was Solo. He was working with a lot of underground stars and still reaching the levels of the ones older than him. Yet, he picked up those levels quick. Reaching the heights of his family and making women reach their climax at the same time.
But, the one who really caught your eyes was Jey. He was the definition of your ideal man. His warm-looking tan skin, his beautiful curly mullet, sexy ass style, big meaty thighs and muscles, and those grills. The way he fucked made you shrivel in your panties. He was a beast with a lot of mouth, just the way you liked it. His style consisted more of an interview at the beginning with a little foreplay and then straight to business. Asking girls about what turns them on the most and what he’s gonna do to them. Making each and every woman who set foot near him blush heavily.
And let’s not get started about that dick.
Definitely a 9-incher, big and heavy looking balls that laid nicely underneath his cock. A luscious pink mushroom tip, with meaty veins that trailed down to his trimmed hair. Now, it’s getting really hot and the thoughts of what he could do to you couldn’t stop dancing around your head.
After some more internet stalking, the time flew by and your flight approached.
Knowing that he stayed in ATL made you absolutely happy. Your manager wouldn’t let you know who exactly you’d be working with, but as soon as you saw your ticket, you knew you were in for a treat and rude awakening.
Dressing your absolute best in a grey Skims shirt and matching miniskirt, that barely covered your ass… perfect.
Wig secured down by some industrial glue and an opt out for the lashes, knowing they’d come off. But, mascara is a must.
On your way there, you couldn’t contain the excitement you felt. Watching some of his work that night before and earlier that day, you knew what he liked, how he acted, and how he wanted it. All the little things that made him tick and shiver.
You were seriously on demon time.
Even though, you felt as though you were throughly experienced and quite the pro. The flashing lights and big cameras still made you very nervous. In the beginning, your parents weren’t very supportive, but once they saw you had a roof over your head and food to eat, that’s all that mattered to them. But, sometimes the days didn’t get any easier. Luckily, your manager was a real one and knew how to calm you down.
After meeting all members of the crew, and the camera and director you and Jey would be working closely with today, you got touched up as you awaited Jey’s arrival.
“Nervous?!” The makeup artist asked you. Laughing slightly, you nonchalantly ignored your jitters and told her you were fine. All that anxious behavior would only arise and the man of the hour arrived.
He looked absolutely scrumptious in a pair of white joggers and a white Nike Tech with no shirt on underneath. His Cuban link chains shining in the sunlight and his cross earring dangling from his one ear.
Your cunt just throbbed at the sight of him. “Hello Ms. Y/N?! Is anyone in there?!” Completely zoned out and you didn’t even realize it, Jey waved his big hand in your face to catch your attention. His dimple prominent as he was quite amused by your expression.
“Hey Jey nice to meet you. Sorry… I just zoned out for a second.” Reaching out to shake his hand, he kindly refused. “It’s no problem, but I don’t shake hands I’m more of a hugger.” Flustered by his comment you arose from your chair and were soon enveloped into his burly arms.
His arms were thick and wrapped around your waist securely, his warm chest pressed against yours, as you felt your nipples harden. The feeling of his semi-hard dick rest against your thigh made you bit your lip and hold your arms around his neck tighter. “You out here showing out, I see you and your little miniskirt.” Spinning you around at 180 degrees, he stopped when your back faced his front.
Obviously entertained by his comments, you decided to show out a little more. Bending over slightly and giving him a little shake, Jey took the opportunity to give your ass an ample smack. “Uh oh, we got a lotta chemistry over here, don’t we?!” The producer of our film walked over to us as we were sharing a moment.
Both of us blushed at the producers comments. Damn right we have chemistry, but we really are gonna see once those cameras turn on. “But, we need more of that on the screen, so let’s get filming.” Turning back around to you, Jey gave you a wet kiss on the cheek and winked at you as he headed to the living room.
He is something else.
————————————————————————
“In 5, 4, 3, 2… 1.”
“Alright, well look at who we have here. We got the Queen of Screams, Y/N in the building. And the Leader Beater, Jey.” Both of us have a wave and proper introduction to the camera as we laughed at the names the producer gave us.
“I just gotta say you guys just sitting next to each other is already a movie.”
“Maybe I need to move a little more closer to him then.” Snuggling up by his side as gave you a gentle kiss on the forehead.
Jey’s arm was placed on the back of the couch with his legs fully spread, giving a beautiful of his already hard dick. You crossed you legs to staf off that feeling of what he would do to you tonight.
“You already know what it is Uce. I got one of the baddest in the game next to me and I’ve been waiting to get my hands on that ass.”
“Ooooo, Jey got all the smoke about you Y/N. You know that ass is viral!!”
Rolling you eyes slightly, you casually smirked as you began to open your mouth. “I got all the smoke behind him too. I’ve been waiting to dig into him for a while.” Your hand left your right thigh as you palmed him through his white sweats, feeling all of his girth.
“Okayyy, Jey how we feeling about that?!!”
“I’m feeling real good about that Uce. Like the feeling is only rising from here.” Removing your hand from his length, you put your head down as you laughed at his comment.
“She bout to be a REALLLL problem Uce!!” Jey’s hand traveled from the back of the couch to your ass as he palmed and massaged it. Returning the favor, you returned your hand back onto his dick.
“Tim, you need to speed this up a little don’t you think?!” Biting your lip and looking Jey dead in his chocolate brown eyes.
“She’s on demon time Jey.”
Jey simply nodded his head at the camera with a smile on his face as you threw your head back in laughter. “But, you gotta show me a little something bae.”
“What you wanna see?!”
Jey intently stared at your chest, barely taking his eyes off of them. “I think he wants to see my tits.” You giggled as you sensually removed your top, letting your breasts out on full display. Jey took a sharp intake of his breath as he admired your ample assets. You played with them first as you stuck your tongue out of your mouth, letting your saliva drip down onto them.
“Why yo ass so scared Jey?!” He quickly snapped out of your trance and gave you a questioning look. “I ain’t ever scared.”
“Prove it.”
Jey dove straight into the middle of your breasts, motorboating himself. You giggled as you took the back of his head into your hands. Things took a sharp turn when he massaged both of your sensitive breasts in his hands and began sucking on each nipples. Covering them in the upmost amount of saliva.
Bringing himself back into an upright position, he sat back and played with your tits. In awe of the dangly Hello Kitty nipple piercing you had on your right tit. “That fuckin’ piercing go crazy Uce, get a closeup on that.” As the cameraman went in to get a closeup, Jey shook your tits from side to side giving himself and the viewers a show.
“He’s having a lot of fun.” Jey gave the camera another sly look as he continued to play with your breasts. “But, I know he’s gonna have more fun with this.” Removing his hands from you, your chest now faces the back of the couch and your knees now pressed up against the seat cushion. You could hear a whistle coming from Jey’s mouth as you gently shook your ass, letting your miniskirt rise showcasing your lovely pink thong.
“This what I’m taking about baby.” Jey bit his lip as his head neared your ass, giving it a wonderful spank, kiss, and caress. “I’m done with this. I’m ready to get in the field.”
“Wow Y/N, I don’t think we’ve ever seen Jey skip over the interview so fast. We got only about four minutes of footage.”
“Four minutes is enough, come baby.” You yelped as Jey took you into his arms and walked to the bed placed off camera.
“I guess I just got the magic touch.”
“Damn right she do. Take that shit off for me mama.”
Tossing you onto the plush bed, you followed his orders and removed your skirt and panties. Your cunt on full display: wet, warm, pink, and soft. You began to play with your pearl as you stared into Jey’s now dark eyes. He slowly started to undo the ties in his sweats. “Keep playing with it baby, I need that pussy real wet when I fuck it.”
Him telling you to continue masturbating in front of him already drove you over the edge, but wanting you real wet when he fucked you, sent you to the moon.
“Unhhh… my pussy’s so wet for you daddy.” Jey was now in his PSD boxers, playing with his clothed cock at the same pace as you. You both stared sensually into each others eyes as Jey finally became nude. Your eyes couldn’t help but to trail down to his massive length, taking in all its magnificent glory.
“Yo ass looking at it real bad, come give it a taste.” Swiftly, you positioned yourself ass up face down as you took his dick into your small hands. Licking at his swollen head, you captured his bead of pre-cum. Closing your eyes and savoring the taste.
Jey’s head leaned back as you enveloped his entire cock into your mouth, all the way to the base. “Fuckkk, that throat ain’t no joke for real.” Not only were you known for your ass, the way you seemed to swallow a dick up so easily was also a topic of discussion.
You sloppily cover his entire length in your saliva, balls and all. You barely even gagged as he reached the back of your throat. Jey’s head lolled back as he revel in the feeling of your throat swallowing him whole like it was nothing. Bobbing your head up and down, twirling circles around his dick, and playing with his balls. “I-I-I-I c-an’t.”
Jey immediately pushed you away as he shivered at the immense amount of pleasure he was receiving, that he had to stop you. “We can’t be going too crazy so fast now. Stay bent over like that baby.” Arching your back even further, Jey assumed the position behind you.
Massaging your ass oh so heavenly. “That ass is something dangerous mama.” Blushing, you began to shake your ass back reaching to feel his dick. He just stood still as he admired your lewd attempts to fuck yourself against him.
Your pussy finally found his cock and you moaned as you gently pushed it into yourself. “Oooo Daddy, that feels so good already.” Jey grabbed your hips in order to get himself inside of you faster. “That pussy so tighttt.”
You bit your lip and looked into the camera as Jey bottomed out into you and began fucking you slowly. “Hey Jey, I swear you got more than that. Give the girl what she wants.”
Jey paused as you looked back at him. “Many girls can’t handle this and then they tap out.”
“I don’t tap out sweetheart. Do your worst.”
Jey pushed your head down into the mattress, as well as pushing your back down slightly more. He spread your legs further and held your juicy hips. He whispered to the camera, “She ain’t ready.”
Jey soon began to absolutely berating your cunt into oblivion. Your nails almost broke as you clawed at the sheets so roughly. Your ass bounced off of his taut abs as if a basketball was being dribbled on a court.
Your screams muffled into the mat as he didn’t cease his ministrations. His hand stayed trained on the back of your head as your nails scratched up his forearm.
“I told you yo’ ass ain’t ready. Tell the world your ass wasn’t ready!!” He pulled your head up as your face was covered in mascara stained tears and forced you to stare into the camera. The cameraman moved to get a closeup. “Tell the world yo’ ass can’t take it.”
Eyes rolled all the way to the back of your head and a big smile on your face, you proudly spoke. “I ca—n take i-i-it wo-rld.” A moan in each break of your sentence as you took Jey’s dick like a champ.
“She lasted longer than the rest, I ain’t gonna lie.” Your head fell back into the sheets as pulled both of your arms to your lower back. You soon began squirting and screaming like a mad woman, nearly as if someone was murdering you.
Well… you were definitely getting murdered in a different way.
“Fuckkkk, baby I’m about to cum. Keep squeezing me just like that.”
Your cunt never stopped clenching as Jey’s cum soon entered your quaking pussy. Jey beat seven hard strokes into your cunt, ensuring that he got every single drop into you.
You shivered as he left the warmth of pussy. You lied back against the bed and but your lip as Jey gave you a sloppy wet kiss.
“How was that guys?!”
“That was cinema.” We said in unison.

If you don't mind my asking, which states have you been to?
Ooh! Um. I’ve been meaning to figure this out exactly, so… let’s go down the list:
Alabama: yes! I’ve spent a total of a few weeks there, between visiting friends and a couple of work trips.
Alaska: nope!
Arizona: yes! Work trip to Phoenix for a week.
Arkansas: sorta! Possibly not overnight - this might have just been a drive-through on a road trip.
California: sorta! Airports only, alas. One layover at LAX, several at SFO.
Colorado: yes! Several weeks in total, between Denver (including getting stuck at the airport overnight), Boulder, and a conference in Breckenridge. Also got to do some long hikes at Rocky Mountain and Black Canyon of the Gunnisons National Parks.
Connecticut: nope!
Delaware: nope!
Florida: yes! Spent a few days there for the final space shuttle launch, with bonus Universal Studios.
Georgia: sorta! Another airports-only: flown through ATL many a time.
Hawaii: yes! My parents started saving early on so the whole family could go out to Kauai for their 25th anniversary (or rather, the Christmas a few months after). It was amazingly beautiful!
Idaho: yes! Boise stopover on a road trip.
Illinois: yes! One or two nights on road trips.
Indiana: yes! Stopovers on road trips, visited friends outside of Indy for a few days, and also two CR Live shows!
Iowa: yes! My brother lived there for a couple years, so there was at least a week there where we helped him move in.
Kansas: yes! Mostly stopovers on stormchasing trips. I remember standing outside at one motel during a giant lightning storm (NOT RECOMMENDED but very cool).
Kentucky: yes! A few days here and there, also on roadtrips.
Louisiana: yes! Week-long conference in New Orleans.
Maine: yes! Several days eating lots of lobster en route to the Maritimes.
Maryland: yes! I lived there for about two months and worked there for another month when I was living in Virginia.
Massachusetts: nope! But I’ll be going for a week in January.
Michigan: yes! Several overnights on road trips.
Minnesota: yes! More road trip stops, but also an overnight in Minneapolis due to airport mix-ups.
Mississippi: nope!
Missouri: yes! Hung out briefly in Kansas City on a slow day of a stormchasing trip.
Montana: yes! The most accessible state from where I lived in Canada (only a seven-hour drive! ack.), so we spent several weekends when I was a teen in places like Billings and Bozeman.
Nebraska: yes! I learned how to play poker in a hotel room in Lincoln on a slow stormchasing day.
Nevada: nope!
New Hampshire: yes! Overnight stop en route to the Maritimes. Is that where a random lady at a gas station gave me her 60s-style sunglasses? Very possibly.
New Jersey: sorta! I think we drove through en route elsewhere but didn’t stop.
New Mexico: nope! But I have a week-long conference there in October.
New York: yes! A few overnight stops in upstate New York—Albany is super pretty! Haven’t been to NYC apart from the airport, though.
North Carolina: yes! Road trip stopover again.
North Dakota: yes! A couple road trips ended up there for the night, in Minot and Fargo.
Ohio: yes! Overnights in the state on road trips.
Oklahoma: yes! Lived there for two years, plus extra stops for the stomchasing trip and a few work trips before I moved there. Tornadoes, man.
Oregon: yes! Weeklong conference in Portland.
Pennsylvania: yes! Lived there for five years, plus a weeklong conference in Pittsburg before I moved there.
Rhode Island: nope!
South Carolina: sorta! I might be forgetting a road trip stopover, but otherwise it’s just airports.
South Dakota: yes! Stayed in Deadwood overnight (very weird place), and also admired the Black Hills.
Tennessee: yes! Road trip stopovers (I remember a tornado warning one night at a hotel), plus a weeklong conference in Nashville.
Texas: yes! Family driving trip to Fort Worth and Austin when I lived in OK, also a weeklong conference in Austin.
Utah: yes! Lots of SLC airport layovers, but also some spectacular hikes in Arches and Canyonlands national parks.
Vermont: yes! One roadtrip stopover and a weeklong conference in Stowe because one of the conference organizers was obsessed with Heady Topper.
Virginia: yes! Lived on the VA side of the border just outside DC for about a month with my boss when my housing in the Baltimore suburbs kind of exploded a bit.
Washington: yes! A few months, plus assorted family trips.
West Virginia: yes! Staying overnight on a road trip.
Wisconsin: yes! Road trip stopovers, plus a weeklong conference in Madison.
Wyoming: yes! Overnight on the way to Colorado a couple times.
So that’s… 37/50 states I’ve at least stayed in overnight, 42/50 states I’ve at least set foot in, and 8/50 states I’ve yet to visit (two of which I’m going to visit in 2020). Of the remaining 6, Alaska is top of my list. And I need to see the parts of California that aren’t the airports. A lot of these come from a couple of road trips: my dad had a work trip in DC once and we just… drove there from western Canada and took a different route on the way back. I also had a stormchasing trip from Alberta down to Oklahoma, and we tended to dip into the US whenever we traveled across Canada (e.g., when I moved out to Quebec). Incredibly lucky to have had a job that’s bounced me all over the country without any money coming out of my own pocket.
My Canadian province record is a lot sadder. I really have been in the US too long…
Prettiest scenery, for me, is Utah followed closely by central Pennsylvania.

Peaches 🍑 &
Anime Dreams ⭐️
I don’t think many people dream of growing up and living in the same city their entire life. Not being able to see different things outside their own world and limiting their world view. Unfortunately it happens, maybe far too often to count. I hoped and prayed that would never happen to me; as I got older and began to travel a bit more I began to realize how much I love the area I’m in, how much I love the Greater Philadelphia area. However, I promised myself that there are a few cities in the US that I MUST travel to and get a feel for, for when I eventually do leave the area that raised me (inevitable due to future career wants). One of those cities was Atlanta Georgia, and what better reason to go to the state where the players play, and people ride out like everyday, than to go to Momocon and celebrate a special birthday with some friends.
The crew that was riding with me were My homie Mike (aka the Wizard Tribble), his girlfriend Gabe (Director, Producer, and 1 half of the horror podcast “The Ghouls Next Door) and my girlfriend Kat (Producer and the other half of “The Ghouls Next Door). We flew in early Friday morning and hit the ground running when we landed in Atlanta. Things moved quickly in the airport. It was wide open, thoroughly organized with no real confusion, which I was not used to from the Philadelphia airport where pigeons would just sit and claim their spot to a seat right beside you in the airport. There was also this air of safety that honestly rubbed my Philadelphian grit in an odd way but I was very appreciative it was noticed. First time in a new city, the first thing anyone wants is some confirmation of safety.
Once we stepped outside, leaving the comfort of the ATL airport that safeguarded us with AC, we were blessed by the loving and excessive sun. Back home in PA the weather consistently flip flops, unsure of what season it wants to be throughout the day let alone the week. Here in Georgia though, in the city of Atlanta, it was bright and sunny all day and week long with a high of 95 and low of about 63 at night. It felt wonderful knowing that there was going to be a steady weather condition to prepare for. The sun was kissing my skin, invoking the power of my melanin–while burning some of my friends. They enjoyed it all the same luckily.
We arrived early to ATL, early enough to call a ride to the nearby diner to get some good southern breakfast in our systems. From the airport to the diner it felt like we were being taken on a small ATL tour. Passing by us was beautiful scenery, birds chirping, healthy, luscious green trees–adding a perfect amount of nature to the populated urban jungle. The letters GT were everywhere for Georgia Tech. A university that seemed to just keep expanding its territory wherever we roamed. The architecture of the city was sleek, not overly futuristic but reminiscent of Philly. It was modern with some buildings taking a design chance on aesthetics; adding in solar panels, wide open glass roof structures, inverted and curved buildings, the chances taken weren’t over the top and did just enough to stand out. Definitely caught my eye.
We finally arrived at a diner close to where we stayed—Silver Skillet Diner, a place that has hosted the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, and Dave Chappelle to name a few. It’s here that my friends and I are able to take Atlanta in more and notice that yep, this may not be Texas but things sure are thiccer (Yes with 2 C’s) down here in the south. We ordered our meals, with everyone of us making sure to get a bowl of grits–mine as a side to my chicken and waffles. Which, were so crispy yet tender. Only made better by the soft waffles and the sticky sweet syrup to combo it all together perfectly. We finish up and pay our bill. Finally we head to our Airbnb.
We get there and are blown away at the place. Nice balcony, modern furniture with a TV in every room, kitchen is dope and has a beautiful island for us to eat at and lean on. The bathrooms are HUGE and the bedrooms are perfectly fitted for 2. To top it off we had access to a summer lounge area that led to a nice pool and fitness center. Place was so good we had to take a instagram video of it. We were in prime location. Downtown Atlanta, right next to the expressway, walking distance from markets and other restaurants, clothing chains and if we didn’t want to walk we could scooter around wherever we wanted to. Yes, I said scooter around. Not like kick push scooter but motorized. Rideshare companies like Lyft & Uber have motorized scooters you can take by going through the same process as you would by ordering a driver except it’s cheaper and you scan a QRcode to activate the scooter. When you’re finished using it, you hop off, pay and just leave it. Drivers come around later in the day and pick up said scooters and recharge them for later use. It was the strangest but coolest thing to see. Definitely had too much fun bending coroners whipping the scooters like I was in rocket power.
After unpacking and taking more IG photos of our Airbnb, it was time to hit the scene and check out the hype around Momocon. What started out as just a “pick up my badge and go” operation turned into a full storm of fun and adventure. When we arrived at Momocon we took it like any other convention and didn’t pay it much attention, the jaded-ness of being a frequent convention goer showing. That is until we got our badges. We got them, so finally we had access to everything the convention had to offer. We rushed the escalators and slid down the rails to do so again until we reached the convention floor. The choices laid out before were the vendors alley, or the gaming hall. We chose the gaming hall for day one.
A concert of echoing laser sounds, dance taps, sirens, alarms, and winning shouts filled the floor and us with it, enveloped in its energy joined the fray. Game after game we played. Putting our bid to even win some the next day. New friends were made, cosplays were stellar, and I got to chill with one of my favorite Pokémon–Blastoise.
We caught wind of a very rare concert happening that night. One my close friend and I have been dying to see. It was the Bytes & Beats Nujabes Tribute concert featuring the NPC Collective, Richie Branson, Asheru, And our favorites–Substantial and Shing02. If you know anything about great anime then you know about Samurai Champloo. An anime that still stylistically, artistically, and musically, holds up and stands the test of time. Those who watched Samurai Champloo leave with a spirit of hypeness and angsty rebellion. That is if they’re the Mugen type. Those like myself who align more like Jin, feel the counter balance energy of flow. The subtle and instinctual vibrations of being in one's element–just riding the current. One of the biggest things to enjoy about Samurai Champloo is its music. Samurai Champloo had a lot of its music crafted by a Japanese DJ named Nujabes. In my eyes, Nujabes is a god among DJ’s. Shoot, a whole generation of young adults and older can thank him for all the music that inspired if not created the genre of chill-hop & lo-fi.
It was the type of music that could soothe the savage beast, could bring you to this place of perfect concentration like you took the limitless pill. The Beats Nujabes crafted was the type of music that makes you think of the perfect weekend drive by sunset cruising the city blocks or mountain roads or the plains of the countryside–windows down with your one arm doing the free flowing roller coaster motion. That feel good–I’m alive vibe. Then topped with the lyrical stylings of artists like Substantial and Shing02, enhanced everything passed the stratosphere and takes the listener to this otherworldly plain of profound worldly views and humbleness. Even with the uptempo joints it felt like every artist that blessed the track, and Nujabes blessing the beat, it just spoke humble confidence. In short, Nujabes was that dude!
Nujabes collaborated with many artists, but the two that he collaborated with and stood out the most were Substantial and Shing02. He worked on joint albums with both (that are historic for chill-hop culture and must listens) but it was with Shing02 specifically that the two together blessed anime fans worldwide as they collaborated on the intro theme song to Samurai Champloo–Battle Cry. A song so enigmatic that just the utterance of its name begins to make my head bop in rhythmic hip hop fashion. Needless to say, we were going to that damn concert!
It was Friday night, we were in Atlanta, we were looking fly, it’s our first time ever at Momocon and quite possibly our first and only time at this Nujabes tribute concert. We were gonna make sure we had a great fucking time. We did everything possible to make sure we got up close and personal to the stage. I may have stuff-armed a person or two….We made sure to take in all the ambience and to not miss a single beat nor lyric felt or heard. We expected greatness and would be damned if we didn’t have a chance to bear witness to it up close and personal.
The concert began and we were taken to a land of hip hop joy, geek excellence, and a dream fulfilled. The concert started at 11pm and didn’t end till about 3am. For those who waited and held out to the very end like my friends and I were treated to a very special rendition of Battle Cry. A new version with verses from every artist that graced the stage prior, and instrumental solos. This shit was absolutely BONKERS and I LOVED every single moment of it. I’ll add, it was made even better that after the show, the artists came out and interacted with the fans. A humble group of men for sure.
Friday was a blockbuster hit in our books. What happened on Saturday though put everything over the top.
Saturday was special. It was Kat’s birthday and all of us were doing our first ever group cosplay. We decided a while back that we’d do the teen titans in casual attire. This was based off the popular artwork of Gabriel Picolo. So, for me that meant I got to embody a character that I along with many others believe I emulate–Cyborg. I dawned the cybernetic blue and steel grey and white face paint, put on a DC Comics Cyborg shirt to rep him even harder, and topped it off with a colorful playstation jacket. Your man was looking fresh out here. To round out our cast of titans was Kat as Raven, Mike as Robin/Nightwing and Gabe as Starfire. Our rule was if we see a Beast Boy, we adopt him for a family photo; and sure enough we did.
We bursted into Momocon towards the backend of a DC vs Marvel Photoshoot. We got a couple pictures taken there then dispersed to get our own in front of the Momocon banner. That’s when it began to happen. It started off quietly by a singular person, then it built into a loud murmur from everyone I see, then it finally erupts into a loud “DOPE COSPLAY CYBORG” from groups of people. Wherever we went I was getting noticed, our team and group cosplay was getting noticed. I don’t think we ever knew it would become such a big deal. I know I didn’t at the time until it was pointed out to me that, every teen titans cosplay done by a group is ALWAYS lacking a Cyborg; everyone but ours. It was a moment that really struck home for me. It began to make more sense as the day progressed. Little kids were coming up to me saying “BOOYAH!” and singing the teen titans theme song. People loved us, they wanted our pictures, put us in videos, stopped what they were doing just to chat with us. It was major. It without a shadow of a doubt drove home the message to me that representation matters. I know some out there will say it’s not super important but after Momocon, after seeing little black boys and girls smile with joy and sing teen titans with me, after they get excited by the utterance of the word booyah by another black character, that families start showing me off to their kid cosplayers and other adult cosplayers of color pause everything because they NEED to take a photo with you...you just can’t ignore how important that is. To be able to see yourself as a hero. To see oneself as greater than for once, when most of–if not all of society says you can only fit into these certain boxes. To see someone else that looks like you in a positive light; that’s all it takes to break a negative cycle, that’s all it takes to create another hero. For a small moment in time, I was inspiring to those around me; and I hope that the sliver of inspiration that I sparked stays ignited in those I met. I know it surely will with me.
But I digress.
Beyond the massive success of our group cosplay, beyond the elation and fun had for Kat’s birthday, the icing on the cake was being able to meet a famous cosplayer by the name of KieraPlease. This was after an intense dance dance revolution session in which I sat and recorded video and got exhausted looking at everyone else go. It was pure happenstance, which resulted into pure happiness when we finally met. I don’t get starstruck often but I must say, words failed me for our brief interaction. I saw her, saw my friends, and shot my shot at a possible chat and photo opportunity for us all. I took the shot and it went in (KOBE!!). After the picture she hugged us all and had a nice conversation with the Ghouls (Kat & Gabe) which I’m sure made their day if the hug didn’t already. It’s great to note that as a team, we have this cosplay thing down well. When a pro says you got it, you freaking got it! More so, it was better to finally meet someone your used to seeing on a cellphone or laptop screen. A living breathing tangible person, who quite honestly is living her best life fully and truly can be looked at as a symbol of positivity; a role model even. Just like that, day two was in the books.
So, I think I brought you along far enough on my experience in ATL. Detailing 2 key days. Now let me change things up on you a bit and give you my overall thoughts of Atlanta and Momocon as a whole.
Atlanta itself is a hotbed of culture. On the weekend we went, that weekend alone had a bevy of major events happening all weekend long. There was Momocon, Caribbean festival and parade, a food festival, and Stone Mountain fireworks and light show to name a few. As one of our lyft drivers said, ATL is a hotbed of culture because it is made up of a lot of different cultures and people from around the US. Atlanta has its own swagger but it is the culmination of others that has shaped the way it is today. Atlanta is a Transplant City. Many people are moving to Atlanta because of the opportunities that present itself. From music, TV, movies, overall entertainment and broadcasting, the warm weather, the great food, the architecture, the various modes of transportation (ONE TIME FOR THE SCOOTERS), the cheaper housing, and generally you get more out of your earned dollar; why people move there makes sense. And like all major cities Atlanta has its issues, shoot the state of Georgia alone is a bit problematic depending on where you slide politically. But my time spent there will be one for the history books. It’s definitely a place worth traveling to again. Next time I go, I’ll be sure to do more exploring. I didn’t get a chance to travel the halls of Cartoon Network (IF ANYONE ONE IN THE HR DEPARTMENT IS READING THIS, HIRE ME PLEASE) so that’s reason enough for me to go back. That and I didn’t get to try some of Hattie B’s Nashville hot chicken or the slutty vegan sandwich. There’s always next time though.
As for Momocon….IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE! Momocon has that extra something. That nudge to taking it up one more notch to make it great. No, it is not as big as DragonCon and maybe it won’t get the same recognition or acclaim but Momocon is a phenomenal con. Momocon brought me back to 2014, when I first started going to conventions. My first one at the time was Otakon and to this day I don’t think any other con will hold as special of a spot in my heart as Otakon. But Momocon, Momocon was dangerously close to taking that spot. Which lets me know and hopefully you, the reader, now that it’s just that damn good! The crowd size of the convention is comparable to say the Greater Philadelphia comic con. Meaning there’s a large crowd and over a thousand things to do but you never have to fear about missing out on something. You can and will get to everything you want if you have patience. The event staff from security to the PR and press team were absolutely amazing. All were easy to talk to and informative, helpful and never overbearing. What truly made Momocon as great as it is in my eyes, is that it at its core it remained an anime and gaming convention. It wasn’t a comic convention with anime sections, it was an anime and gaming convention that accepted comic lovers just as much as it did its anime and gaming fans. Anime and gaming is my bread and butter, it’s what got me into this geeky, blerd, pop-culture world I exist in currently. Momocon stayed true to that core value. The sheer fact they had Substantial and Shing02 performing live in concert said more than enough for me. Momocon you are in fact, a real one.
Atlanta….I’ll be back in the future. Whether that be for work or pleasure, or hell maybe to be a transplant myself and live there. All this kid from the burbs of Philly has to say left is…
Peace up, A-Town down.
Much love,
– Isaiah Luck aka Broku

Barbeque, Funnel Cakes, Fireworks, and Live Music: the infallible recipe for a good time....the Pflugerville Foruth of July Fireworks show certainly had them all!
This past weekend Uptown Drive, the top rated band on wedding wire, took a break from playing Texas weddings and corporate events to entertain the people of Pflugerville at the annual Pflugerville “Pfireworks Pfestival”, a truly Texan event. The sun was shining and spirits were high when the Austin wedding band arrived at Pfluger Park, ready to entertain the all-ages crowd that had gathered to celebrate our great country. Coming in hot with a fun, energetic, and diverse set of dance songs, the 6-piece party band certainly did not disappoint! From the first note to the last, each song flowed straight into the next... the party (and the music) doesn’t stop when Uptown Drive is at the helm! From Michael Jackson to Chris Stapleton, Aretha Franklin to Miley Cyrus, the top 40 Cover band has something in their set for everyone. Pop, Rock, Country and more, Uptown Drive can play it all. The lower the sun dipped into the horizon, the more people stood up from their lawn chairs and blankets until the entire park was dancing along under the stars with the special event band( who has their own fun choreography sprinkled throughout their performance). The night ended with this years biggest hit, “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, seamlessly transitioning into the awe-inspiring fireworks display provided by the city of Pflugerville. When the fireworks ended, moms, dads, kids and teens alike drifted by the band to offer their praises before fading into the night along with the last trails of smoke in the sky. A Fourth of July to remember.
If you’re looking for a live band to play at your next wedding, family reunion, corporate event, look no further. Uptown Drive will help you make unforgettable memories out of special moments.  Did you miss Uptown Drive’s Fourth of July performance? Don’t worry, you can catch them playing the wave pool at Typhoon Texas all summer.

Favorite Shows of 2019
Tumblr media
Alex Cameron, Troubadour, 12/06/19 This show blew me away. I was half expecting a lounge act with a drum machine. Cameron had a full band, dressed like the Thin White Duke, and shook the audience down from the moment he took the stage. Launched into “Bad for the Boys” followed by “Divorce” which is a great one-two punch of an opener. Great players. There’s a special energy at the Troubadour when a buzz-worthy act goes up and kills it. This was one of those shows.
Helmet, 1720, 11/09/19 Page Hamilton dedicated the middle of the set to performing Helmet’s debut album, Strap It On, in its entirety. Every once in a while I’ll see a show and think, “I don’t know how big the target audience is for this, but it’s definitely for me.” In the case of Helmet it was for me and the guy in the Anthrax ATL t-shirt that knew every word. A few songs later they played “Sam Hell” and I wondered who the fuck could be excited to hear that one, but I optimistically figured someone else was having the same experience that I did during Strap It On.
Kamasi Washington, The Theatre at ACE Hotel, 9/19/19 One of the reasons that I travel to Chicago for the Pitchfork Music Festival every year is to catch acts across different genres in a friendly environment. Kamasi Washington was one of the best acts in 2016, but I wasn’t going to go to the Hollywood Bowl or the Disney Concert Hall to see him. The Theater at ACE hotel, though, seemed doable. There were a dozen people onstage. I don’t know shit about Jazz. This show was incredible.
Tumblr media
Bill Callahan, The Lodge Room, 06/15/19 Smog was one of the first shows I saw at Bottom of the Hill when I moved to San Francisco in ’96 (Guv’ner and Cat Power opened). Callahan was touring The Doctor Came at Dawn and the late Cynthia Dall joined him onstage to sing “Lize.” I thought it was a great show. I held on to that memory and then didn’t see Callahan play again for 23 years. He’s still great and more exciting as a live performer than you might expect. Callahan had a full band with him but it’s the guitarist that made the biggest impression, and he was given plenty of room both on the stage and in the songs.
The Building / Heather Woods Broderick, Bootleg Theater, 11/12/19
I discovered Heather Woods Broderick when she was touring as a backup singer for Sharon Van Etten a few years ago. She released her third record this year and it’s sublime. I found out that she was playing just a few hours before the show and quickly scraped together a plan to get to it.
The Building were new to me, but Anthony LaMarca’s songs are so direct that the understanding is immediate. I was only able to listen to PETRA once before the show, but I was completely riveted by his performance of it. It’s an honest and vulnerable record. A spare-toned beauty that will speak volumes to anyone who’s ever had their body turn against them.
Bauhaus, Palladium, 11/03/19 I saw Bauhaus in San Francisco in 1998 and it seemed like a remarkable reunion, as they had been gone for so long. Now that show is over 20 years in the past. The good news is that they haven’t lost any of their intensity (at least since 1998). Peter Murphy still sounds great. I spent the encore at a merch table where I watched a guy insist on holding up different sizes of the same shirt, ask if he could try them on (he could not) and then solve the problem by taking the shirt he was wearing off to compare it to the new ones. I hope that shirt fits like a glove and that he wears it every day.
Tumblr media
Jesca Hoop, Highland Park Ebell, 11/13/19 I first saw Jesca Hoop open for Martha Wainwright ten years ago. She makes a huge impression and I’ve seen her on tour for each album she’s released since. She’ll focus on the whatever album she’s touring so I might never get a chance to hear those songs again. I greet each new record with enthusiasm: “Let’s see where this goes.” Live she’s incredible because she’ll bring backup singers that can deliver her layered harmonies.
Imperial Teen, Echo, 08/03/19 They released their best record in years with Now We Are Timeless. It’s been 13 years since I last saw them, but all of the familiar elements were there: the instrument switches and laughter and fucking hooks. They are still fun and charming live and the set that they played was perfect. They ended the night with “Water Boy.” What must it be like to know that you can just knock the audience on their ass with that minute-and-a-half masterpiece? To literally shout “Bow down yeah baby baby!” and then walk off the stage.
Ibibio Sound Machine, Moroccan Lounge, 7/30/19 The band members were nearly stacked on top of each other to fit on the Moroccan Lounge stage and still give Eno Williams room to move. A thrilling show, but I miscalculated how the crowd would fall and I was out of my league in terms of fandom. Caught shade for not dancing, but in my defense I was terrified because Williams was holding the mic out to the people on both sides of me and they knew the words (in Ibibio) and I did not.
Laura Stevenson, Bootleg Theater, 05/18/19
The Big Freeze is my favorite record of the year and seeing her play it live was special. These songs are the most personal thing she’s recorded but she’s not a precious performer.
Tumblr media
Charly Bliss, Casbah, 06/29/19
Charly Bliss takes 90’s “just-signed-to-a-major-label” pop and perfects it. They dress up for the show, they sell full-color t-shirts… they are an arena band in search of an arena. Until they find one, catch them the club when you can.
Low/ EMA, The Lodge Room, 03/15/19 There are few bands that continue to change their sound and continually challenge themselves and the audience. They can’t precisely recreate Double Negative live and so it becomes something else entirely. I hope they compile a live album from this tour. I finally got to see EMA again and she was excellent. That bass sound in “Breathalyzer” was rattling my teeth for the whole song.
Black Midi, Bootleg Theater, 03/08/19 Building a mystery so precisely. They strode onstage, locked in and didn’t let up for an hour. When the last note struck, the lights went out and they disappeared from the stage. They sold out of an unlabelled 12” single with a line of fans still waiting to buy them.

Our Night With Uno The Activist
Tumblr media
// We spent a night with ATL’s Uno The Activist, during his Tour stop in Toronto.
Uno The Activist performed live in Toronto for a sold out crowd at The Velvet Underground. After a few hours on stage, all that remained was the pungent aroma of teen spirit which permeated the Velvet Underground.

yellin’ at songs, 5.19.2007 & 5.20.2017
the songs that debuted on the billboard chart this week and last year this week.
5.19.2007
27) "(You Want To) Make a Memory," Bon Jovi
I was so fucking stoked for a real-ass power ballad before I remembered that Bon Jovi was country in 2007. This song was boring. It's kind of weird, though, like, a couple weeks ago, I argued that, if you're gonna name your song something like "Johnny Cash" or "Marvin Gaye," you need to produce something on par with your song's namesake's catalogue so that people can justify listening to your nonsense instead of their works. This is a spin on that idea: how rough is it to be Bon Jovi and have to justify your continued existence when people liked the things you already made? Like imagine trying to tell people that this pop/country ballad deserves a place on your shelf alongside "You Give Love a Bad Name." The burden of expectation is rough, and I try to evaluate songs based on what they are and not what they could be but like I could have listened to "You Give Love a Bad Name."
53) "Working Class Hero," Green Day
Socialism is so hot right now. Look at all these Johnny-come-lefties hopping on the bandwagon now that the cool grandpa from the election made socialism palatable for a mass audience. Fucking poseurs. REAL socialists have been on board ever since they heard that one Green Day cover when they were 17.
77) "Do it Just Like a Rockstar," Freak Nasty ft./Crazy Mike
My first thought upon seeing this song was, wow, the turnaround time on this ripoff is outstanding! I'm glad they could get Saunter the Jewels to collaborate on this, impressive work! And then I sat down to listen to this song, and it was... this? To call the production quality of this track amateurish would be an insult to amateurs. This was fucking awful. But not only that, when I tried to FIND this song on The Youtube, dot com, I was directed to the Freak Nasty - Topic page I am used to seeing for the bar bands I enjoyed as a teen, the - Topic page for the songs no one remembered. YouTube thought I was searching for "Party Like a Rockstar," and that is fair. This is all the research I cared to do: according to Wikipedia, this was indexed on iTunes as "Party Like a Rockstar," and it was indexed as such for two weeks before the Shop Boyz released "Party Like a Rockstar" digitally. 30,000 people bought this song thinking it was a GOOD shitty song, and they ended up with this nonsense because this song so shitty the people in charge of putting it onto the internet didn't even bother to get the title right. This song just randomly made $30,000 one day. I don't know what Freak Nasty's cut of the profits was, but I hope he bought something fun with his bonus. I want an oral history of this song immediately.
93) "Lean Like a Cholo," Down AKA Kilo
I don't have a lot of things to say about this one. After listening to Freak Nasty, I was excited to hear something akin to production values, and hey: rapper of Mexican heritage! Always interesting! This song is bad? But, hey, sometimes debut singles are safe, they aim to do nothing more than get someone to dance so you associate the artist with something that made you feel good and thus come to associate that artist with a good feeling, and as the artist builds that trust with their audience that they will supply the good feeling, they will create more complex and more satisfying works. I electing not to find out of Down AKA Kilo has created the Mexican To Pimp a Butterfly, because this song is bad, but I am not ruling out the possibility that he has created works of some worth.
You’ll never guess what the 2007 Top 20 looks like: 20) "When I See U," by Fantasia (4.21.2007) 19) "Movin' On," by Elliott Yamin (3.17.2007) 18) "U + Ur Hand," by P!nk (1.13.2007) 17) "Doe Boy Fresh," by Three 6 Mafia ft./Chamillionaire (1.20.2007) 16) "Breath," by Breaking Benjamin (4.14.2007) 15) "Stolen," by Dashboard Confessional (4.21.2007) 14) "Beautiful Liar," by Beyonce & Shakira (3.31.2007) 13) "Cupid's Chokehold," by Gym Class Heroes ft./Patrick Stump (1.13.2007) 12) "The River," by Good Charlotte ft./M. Shadows & Synyster Gates (2.10.2007) 11) "Say OK," by Vanessa Hudgens (2.17.2007) 10) "Alyssa Lies," by Jason Michael Carroll (1.13.2007) 9) "Never Again," by Kelly Clarkson (5.12.2007) 8) "Get Buck," by Young Buck (4.14.2007) 7) "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," by Jennifer Hudson (1.13.2007) 6) "Thnks fr th Mmrs," by Fall Out Boy (4.28.2007) 5) "Candyman," by Christina Aguilera (1.13.2007) 4) "Because of You," by Ne-Yo (3.17.2007) 3) "Umbrella," by Rihanna ft./Jay-Z (4.28.2007) 2) "Dashboard," by Modest Mouse (2.17.2007) 1) "The Story," by Brandi Carlile (4.28.2007) And next week, we get an R. Kelly song! That’ll be a fun thing to deal with!
5.20.2017
1) "I'm the One," by DJ Khaled ft./Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper & Lil Wayne
Between the Fall Out Boy disaster not making a debut and this breezy summer jam, I'ma say 2017 clinched the W right off the bat. This, like "Cake" and "Swalla" before it, is simply a fun if slightly repugnant good time. (I don't think anyone needed to hear Chance the Rapper talk about how he makes the pussy melt. Like, come on, dude.) This is a series intended on making me think about the things I listen to, and this is a song that insists you not think for five minutes, so this song and I value much different things in life, but I will not deny that this is a fun-ass beat.
61) "1-800-273-8255," by Logic ft./Alessia Cara & Khalid
This is a song by people who have never been depressed but have read several tweet threads about mental illness and decided they had to Say Something. This is the first draft of the worst Atmosphere song, a song in which someone scared of their own darkness tries to inhabit a character enveloped by it. "What's the day without a little night?" Depression is not just a little night, you stu -- and I know you're trying to help, I understand that I'm the bad guy because I'm complaining about the suicide hotline song, but depression isn't something you go through, it's something you live with. I don't think anyone on this track understands that. I don't think it earns its message, and -- fuck's sake, THIS is the beat you're gonna use to tell me life is worth living? THIS is the backing track you think is gonna convince people to call the suicide hotline? This plodding go-nowhere PBRnB bullshit? Fuck off, man. Yeah, maybe the "I'm the One" beat would be an inappropriate call here, but you've gotta do SOMETHING more dramatic. Shit, man, someone's on the phone saying they wanna end their life, and this song sounds like someone saying, "Eh. Life's cool. Y'all should keep tryin' it, iono. You sure you're not just sad that it's raining? Eh, weather. We've had some rain past few days, people need the sun."
67) "First Time," by Kygo & Ellie Goulding
"We were sippin' on emotion/Smoking and inhaling every moment." WHO THE FUCK WRITES LYRICS FOR KYGO BECAUSE THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND I LOVE THEM. Alright, between this and "It Ain't Me," I am all in on the Kygo bandwagon. He is the official EDMer of YAS. He makes songs about loving life that don’t feel like the saddest thing in the world, and I don’t know enough about him to know I should hate him like I do with Calvin Harris or The Chainsmokers. Good job, Kygo!
70) "Thunder," by Imagine Dragons
...You know, you guys didn't listen to "Hard Times" last week. No shade. I knew it was gonna have a short life on the chart if it had any life at all. But, uh, this has a higher debut? And it's probably gonna last longer? And also, this isn't related, but "do re mi" hung around for another week? I dunno. I just remember a time when our rock bands actually rocked, and that time was last week, because that Paramore song is great, and I would much prefer to think about "Hard Times" than whatever this was. Isn't this the same song as "Believer?" Like, that song was about how stoked Imagine Dragons is to be famous, this song is about how stoked Imagine Dragons is to be famous? Am I willfully misinterpreting things for the sake of having something to say, or do I have a legit thing to say? Who cares. Final review of “Thunder:” "Hard Times" is song of the year 2017.
76) "Bon Appetit," by Katy Perry ft./Migos
The most useful thing this song did is have the individual members of Migos say their names before their verse so that a polite audience who has been listening to "Bad & Boujee" for six months no longer had to wonder if it was OK to ask, or if they should have already known. Takeoff is the one with the deep gravel voice, Offset is the one with hella Southern drawl, and Quavo is the Good one. Thanks, "Bon Appetit!" You were otherwise worthless, oh boy just what I needed another Katy Perry song with a thuddingly stupid sexual metaphor (bob didn’t you like that jason derulo song) THAT’S JUST THUDDINGLY STUPID JASON DERULO DON’T FUCK WITH METAPHORS LET ME HAVE MY CONTRADICTIONS, but you have provided a world with a Dummies' Guide to ATL, and I will never forget you for doing this favor for me.
87) "Pirvacy," by Chris Brown
I am not going to listen to this for the obvious reasons, but I have to imagine a Chris Brown song called "Privacy" is the worst fucking thing imaginable. Is this fucknugget seriously releasing a 40-track double album? Not only is he not punished for the Riahnna thing, he's given ARTISTIC FREEDOM!?
90) "Slow Hands," by Niall Horan
90?! Yikes! If this 1D song couldn't even crack Top 80, I can't imagine how much worse it is than "Sign of the Times" or ZAYN's solo stuff. /// Oh, this was nice! Teens! This nice sweet boy made a fine song! Why are you ignoring him? This is the song Charlie Puth has been trying to make for the last three years. Which isn't to say it's good white boy soul, I think Niall Horan is a years' worth of pain away from being able to pull off solid white boy soul, but it's acceptable trash. If I saw this trash lying on the street, I wouldn't be happy to see it, but I'd be 90% sure it's compostable, and while I'm not quite sure what that means I'm pretty sure that means it won't harm the world. Bob please edit that comparison before you hit publish, love, your future self who wants to be taken seriously.
91) "Magnolia," by Playboi Carti
A'ight. This was pretty cool. Y'know what? We're gonna take a shower, we're gonna hit up another One Directioneer song, and we're gonna come back to you, but the early prognosis on Playboi Carti is that he is Not Bad.
93) "Sweet Creature," by Harry Styles
Oh. Oh, THIS is how you get me to appreciate "Sign of the Times." This. The most WGWAG-y thing I've had to listen to on the chart so far. Mind you, I had to listen to a whole Ed Sheeran album as part of this project. I did not make that statement without being abso-damn-lutely sure this was the most WGWAG nonsense of 2017 so far.
100) "wokeuplikethis," by Playboi Carti ft./Lil Uzi Vert
There's this stream that sometimes pops up in my YouTube recommendations called "lo-fi hip-hop beats to relax/study to," I'm sure it pops up for you as well, I'm sure it's an astoundingly popular stream, and with this and the other song, I'm not sure this young man really elevates above "patron saint of the lo-fi hip-ho beats stream." I didn't mind this song, but I also found other things to do when I was listening to this song, and the same is true of "Magnolia." I'm sure Carti doesn't aspire to be background noise, but whatever ambitions he may have didn't find their way into the songs I've heard so far. I have little sense of who he is, I just know I started reading a cool-seeming article about microcelebrity while he was doing his thing. It's Not Bad. It's not worth thinking about. I'm more concerned with the second bit.
HUGE changes to 2017′s Top 20 this week. 20) "First Time," by Kygo ft./Ellie Goulding (5.20) 19) "Heatstroke," by Calvin Harris ft./Young Thug, Pharrell Williams & Ariana Grande (4.22) 18) "Yeah Boy," Kelsea Ballerini (3.4) 17) "You Look Good," by Lady Antebellum (4.22) 16) "The Heart Part 4," by Kendrick Lamar (4.15) 15) "Selfish," by Future ft./Rihanna (3.18) 14) "Slide," by Calvin Harris ft./Frank Ocean & Migos (3.18) 13) "Now & Later," by Sage the Gemini (2.25) 12) "DNA." by Kendrick Lamar (5.6) 11) "It Ain't Me," by Kygo x Selena Gomez (3.4) 10) "Craving You," by Thomas Rhett ft./Maren Morris (4.22) 9) "That's What I Like," by Bruno Mars (3.4) 8) "Chanel," by Frank Ocean ft./A$AP Rocky (4.1) 7) "Run Up," by Major Lazer ft./PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj (2.18) 6) "Green Light," by Lorde (3.18) 5) "ELEMENT." by Kendrick Lamar (5.6) 4) "Despacito," by Luis Fonsi ft./Daddy Yankee (2.4) 3) "Issues," by Julia Michaels (2.11) 2) "iSpy," by KYLE ft./Lil Yachty (1.14) 1) "Hard Times," by Paramore (5.13) We are almost almost at the point where I can give a glowing review to a song that doesn’t make the Top 20.
Who won? 2017. It’s really hard to argue the virtues of any of the songs 2007 gave us this week, especially when you consider that one of them debuted accidentally. Chris Brown might’ve been too much weight to carry on a good week for 2007, but 2017 manages to carry it to the top. I will remember precisely one of these songs by this time next week. Pop music is bad why am I making myself listen to so much of it I have had a bad idea what am I doing 2017: 5 2007: 3
