Halloween Spotlight!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are getting into the Halloween spirit today with Luke Geddes's TV Guide parody zine TV Grime Vol. 1. Geddes describes TV Grime as “a compendium of deeply personal reflections on every Halloween-themed television episode I’ve ever seen, laid out in a TV Guide-style grid on over 100 newsprint pages.” His reviews are accompanied by a ratings system that judges each episode’s Autumnal Ambiance, Spooky Vibes, Fright Factor, and Overall Quality, along with a detailed channel guide on where to watch.
The issue covers all the big-hitting sitcoms of the 80s, 90s and 00s, including Growing Pains, Fraiser, Martin, Party of Five, Freaks and Geeks, and delightfully has four pages dedicated to The Simpsons' annual Treehouse of Horror episodes. Sprinkled throughout, readers are treated to old network advertisements of their Halloween line-ups.
TV Grime Vol. 1 was printed in Milwaukee, WI October 2022 by Geddes's record label and publishing company Works of Love and is available online here.

What a show, what a journey, what a town! I started watching Northern Exposure during the week between starting the job of my dreams and leaving a really bad workplace (one that I was desperate to go to because I was fleeing a REALLY bad workplace) in March of 2022. I finished the series tonight, the eve of my departure for my adventure from Twin Peaks to Cicely. I have followed along with the Northern OverExposure Podcast (catch me on their episode on Season 6 Episode 4 The Letter) over this year plus and have had a wonderful time live tweeting my thoughts and interacting with Northern Exposure fans and the hosts of that show, Charles and Lee. I've lost track of how many people have responded to me watching the show, irl, with, "Oh I loved that show!!" My parents (My dad said, "you don't remember when we watched that?" and I had to remind him I wasn't alive yet), my boss (who "stopped watching when Joel left"-spoiler!), my coworkers (and their siblings), my friends (who are accompanying me to the Informal Moosefest this weekend in Roslyn). I've also been able to share the show with my loved ones (showing it to my step-sisters in Montreal and showing it to my sister- the episode where Maggie turns 30 (season 4 episode 1)-a month before my sister turned 30). The Thanksgiving episode (season 4 episode 8) will be a yearly rewatch for me and my family now (my aunt was willing to watch it twice this past year). This show is never ever predictable, but always self reflective, and incredibly quirky (dream sequences or a gimmick abound). The characters are beautiful and the storylines range from profound to bonkers. The representation for Native people, gay people, hypochondriacs, strong women, hip girlies, manic pixie dream boys, and wise, as well as unwise, adults, was crucial for the time it aired on TV (maybe not all of those archetypes really needed the representation but once I started thinking about this ensemble cast I couldn't stop). I will always love the Zydeco style theme for something set so far away from the home of that music, but that's what the show is about. Finding joy in a place that maybe isn't your home. I haven't even gotten to my ideal man, love of my life, absolute smart cute sweetie boy himself, Chris Stevens. I was already a John Corbett fan but his monologues as Chris sent me over the moon. Where can I get me one of those? And if I'm getting into character specifics I also need to mention Ruth-Anne and Ed's relationship. Ed interacting with anybody (whether on a spiritual plane (One Who Waits) or a physical person (Shelly)), is a great time, but him and Ruth-Anne just have such a beautiful connection. I'm looking forward to dancing on Ruth-Anne's grave this weekend. Also I loved Mike Monroe (sue me, HE'S A LAWYER!). This show did so much with what seemed like so little. It's a straight forward premise, as it's known to Spanish speakers, "Doctor en Alaska", but what unfolded to me was much much bigger. I can't say too much about the short comings of season 6, but I never hated it. Characters acted a little more strange than usual and things felt different, maybe sometimes a little stale, but it's still the same town. It's funny to me how a fictional place, so far away, can remind me of my own hometown and state. There really is something universal in the particular. I have loved (mostly) every minute of watching this show (Maurice took the longest to grow on me) and shouting my reaction to it into the void only to have others respond (thoughtfully and with enthusiasm). It's really indicative of where I'm at in my life and I feel incredibly lucky. So thank you, everyone involved in the making of Northern Exposure, the Northern OverExposure Podcast, and anyone who lets this town into their heart. You'll find me, and many others, there. Happy Moosefest everyone, antlers up! <3

Hey Brit! A question about Andy Bear and Baby girl. I know the Barber fam has their designated movie nights, but in some fics Babygirl just wants to watch movies with him after work. Is this a regular occurrence for them? And what are their favorite things to watch together? I love that he puts up with reality…wish he’d oblige housewives 😭 but besides Love is Blind/Jersey shore, what things do they equally love to watch together?
Tumblr media
Andy and Baby Girl curling up on the couch together after a long day of work is a pretty regular occurrence. It's a way for them to relax and reconnect with one another. A good snuggle sesh is the perfect come down after a rough day spent in court or dealing with clients.
Below is a list of what they're watching now. Keep in mind, these are shows they actually pay attention to, versus the stuff they put on for background noise when they're in more of a Netflix and Chill type of mood.
The Righteous Gemstones: they stumbled upon this one after randomly watching a movie with Danny McBride. That dysfunctional family and their ridiculous megachurch makes for some quality TV. And their favorite characters are Judy Gemstone, Uncle Baby Billy, and Keefe.
Yellowjackets: they recently binged both seasons one and two and were pissed at Misty over the whole Natalie debacle. Andy was also a big fan of Elijah Wood's guest starring role.
Mayor of Kingstown: Baby Girl was riveted during the entire time they binged that show. She kept asking questions about whether or not things were actually that corrupt in their own city. She really put her man in the hot seat.
Based On A True Story: This one actually took some convincing on Baby Girl's part. She loves anything with Kaley Cuoco, but her Big Man wasn't sold. However, they were both pleasantly surprised by just how much they enjoyed the show. It's not often that something makes them laugh out loud.
Jack Ryan: Andy had already seen season one of the show before he convinced his girl that she might like it too. It turns out he was right. Although, he was a little annoyed when he realized that his television companion had developed a bit of a crush on John Krasinski. But at least he's better than Lloyd Evans-Drysdale.
Dexter: this is a re-watch for both of them. They finished the series years ago and just randomly decided to start watching it again from the beginning during a lazy weekend. Although they both agree that the final season is trash.
Hope this answers your question! Thanks for the ask and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

UPDATE: The Middle (10/19)
Pairings: Din Djarin/Luke Skywalker Ratings: T Categories: Action/Adventure, Drama, Hurt/Comfort Warnings: Blood & Injury, Dismemberment, Violence The Jedi Order, alongside the Galactic Republic in which they accompany, have been entangled in the Clone Wars and Mandalorian-Jedi War simultaneously. But that is potentially set to change. Mand'alor Din Djarin has agreed to meet with representatives for the first time in history. Recently appointed Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, his Padawan learner Grogu, and Master Obi-Wan Kenobi must embark to Mandalore and attend the delegations, with the hopes of reaching a compromise.
As promised, here is my direct sequel to The Beginning, a continuation of the events in that story! At last we can follow Luke, and in turn Grogu and Din, as they work to bring understanding between their people.
Somewhat like before, chapters will be posted every Friday, until reaching chapter…14! Yes, for those following along, I’ve managed to scrape together another 5 chapters. I originally wanted to stop prior to chapter 10 because it would have left the story on a major cliffhanger, which I thought was rather cruel. But since I’m past that, I will be continuing until I reach the latest completed chapter and go on a temporary hiatus to finish the rest, or until the story is completed if I manage to get that far during these upcoming weeks.
Please be advised: this is the chapter where the amputation/dismemberment tag will be coming into play.
In this tenth chapter, Luke's and Grogu's continued investigation goes awry.

I GOT MY PARENTS AND BROTHER INTO #hfjone AND I’M SCREAMING…
My brother has watched all episodes
My Mother watched 1-18 (updated now)
My Father is still in progress and watched 1-2 (won’t watch more but is letting us summarize)
I’ve watched all episodes at least 3 times each 🥲
AND IM CRYING BECAUSE… My mother will just casually bring up some insane theory and be like “what do u think?”… like… GOD WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT???
My father will see me drawing characters and start asking questions. he saw me drawing airy once and was like “..who is that???” and at the time i hadn’t thought of the fact i spoiled it for him but i said Airy. He ofc threw a fit and was like “that isnt airy???? thats a gumball machine???” so today he just picked up this random white glass gumball machine (it was fake, for decor) and brought it over to me and was like “you 6… are here specificaly… to compete in my competition. called one.” AND I WAS DYING-
THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO FORCE YOUR FAMILY TO WATCH HFJONE. DO IT.

One of the things I like to do a lot is analyse costume’s choice in television. And one thing I’ve noticed is how when Rory is introduced to the rich world, her outfits go to darker colors, especially gray and black, and also more skirts and less jeans.
Tumblr media
That extreme outfit change that happens in season 6, really shows that Rory is being more influenced by Emily and the life she lives, giving into the rich world that her mother had tried so hard to keep her away. Like in the episode, “Let’s do some magic.”, when Rory’s given the position to plan the event, she’s wearing a white button shirt and black skirt, which is such an Emily look. I think the one we can see it best is at their fight scene, in which they are basically wearing the same coat.
Tumblr media
See? Button closed coat, it’s almost the same fabric and in similar patterns. It’s such a not Rory look and I just can’t see normal Rory liking this. It looks like she’s trying to seem more adult than she actually is, to give her a sense of maturity, but it’s just unnatural, because she’s actually hasn’t reached that place mentally or emotionally. Her life is a mess, but she’s trying to look together and in control. It has a huge contrast to the clothing she wears when she was younger. Her outfits were 90% of the time: jeans and a confortable shirt and a delicate top. Then, when she was dating Jess, it started leaving the sweet child’s baby pink clothing to other shades and purple coats.
Tumblr media
Jess was Rory entering to a more mature relationship, not an adult one, but more mature than what she had with Dean. It’s her leaving puppy love, pecks on the cheek to something more tender, which includes her beginning desire to have sex. One of my favorite outfits of hers is the one she uses at Kyle’s party. The delicate light purple shirt with a lace, jeans, black belt and lovely dark purple coat, is just, chef’s kiss.
What I wanted to point out is that Rory’s clothing really reflects on how she’s feeling and who she is in that moment. Season 5 and 6 Rory’s outfits just look different than what she normally wears and shows how she’s slowly distancing from her true self. When she goes back to Yale, we see her become closer to normal, back to sweats and jeans, but now she has lived more and the experiences she had, influenced her, and now she wears finer coats and accessories. Her outfits bring the both worlds she lived, her mother’s and grandmother’s, plus the one she created to herself without their influence, creating now her unique self.
