They just took Chloe back to check her temperature. If her temp has come back down to normal they will do the bloodwork today so that she doesn’t have to come back for her scheduled appointment on Tuesday. I made sure to tell the tech about the reverse sneezing episodes before they took her back. Chloe was great in the car today on the way here. She only meowed a few times, didn’t cry the entire way here. Sadly, she’s gotten used to these trips to the vet. I’m sitting here super anxious waiting. I don’t know why I’m so worked up. I just want my little girl to be ok. I’ll update later when I get home.

Wednesday's temperature check (1/3)

I learned a little bit about the US copyright law yesterday.  Back in 1998, thanks to some WWE-level arm twisting by “The Walt Disney Company”, who was afraid the imminent expiration of the Steamboat Willie rights, American singer, songwriter, actor, and politician, Sonny “Salvatore” Bono, championed the Sonny Bono Act (aka Mickey Mouse Protection Act, aka Copyright Term Extension Act).  Thus, the copyrights of intellectual property were extended to 95 years.  A quick math check leads us to acknowledge that anything written in 1928 becomes public domain on January 1, 2024.  Well, Steamboat Willie was written in 1924 (and is now public domain)!  Now, get ready for “Steamboat Willie” horror films.  When Winnie-the-Pooh transitioned to public domain last year, we got “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey”.  It is a movie so bad, it is literally described in the title, “poo”! (3% on Rotten Tomatoes, btw).  So, as an obvious act of defiance to the same company that, in 1989, threatened a lawsuit to force the removal of murals featuring their cartoon figures from the walls of three Florida day care centers, get ready for “Mickey’s Mouse Trap”.  From the trailer, it looks like Steamboat Willie meets the Ghostface from Scream.  Sure, it’s no inside-out William Shatner mask, but partially melting Mickey’s face over an open flame like a S’More is all that’s needed to top 3% on Rotten Tomatoes.   Why do these post-Disney public domain childhood ruining movies have to be slasher films?  How about a war film like, “Mickey-heimer”.  Instead of an atomic bomb, the Americans drop a 355-foot nuclear-powered mouse on Tokyo that wreaks havoc until the Japanese surrender.  Or maybe a rom-com where a street-walking mouse is picked up by a rich, powerful corporate raider from NYC.  Mickey eventually realizes that this plot is the same as two other Disney properties not yet in the public domain and is sued for all the profits.  It’s an incredible lack of imagination on the part of these single-digit thrill seeking movie maker (Editor’s note: maker is doing a lot of work in that sentence).  Anyway, I’m waiting for January 1, 2033 when the rights to “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” expire.  I want to see what kind of horrible mischief is up in that film.  I could imagine a ghost ship named the “Snow White” as it travels from unsuspecting town to unsuspecting town in search of the last of the cursed pirate gold, but running into a former weird, but uncursed captain along the way.  Perhaps we can call it, “Snow White and the Seven Wharves”.

15/01/2023 2:50PM / Breakdowns happen so we move on. Divine intervention, they say. And the intervention is, if you care to notice, always to look within. I've been terribly close for so long, I've lost sight of my own eyes. Exhausted. It is only a necessary breakdown of my ways: all my silly, slimy, obsessive ways that worked for a little while, but no longer. I must regain myself at all cost, for where I'm living now is far too in-between and one doesn't like to replicate without reason. How do I rekindle the fire? The fire that has always been a part of my soul. Where to? How long? Oh, the glow. Where have you gone, my little one? I am here. I am loved and standing in my power without fear.

Hmmm. I am in a very Helpful mood right now, and it's currently AAPI heritage month, so I decided that, as one of your local AAPI writeblrs, I might do a temperature check for possibly some (loose) guides to writing Chinese American/East Asian American characters and/or mixed-race/specifically mixed E. Asian characters.

Is either of these ideas something that people might find helpful? I'm leaning toward the second one because it's closer to my personal experience, but I can also speak to the first one.

Pero las cosas hay que realizarlas con criterio, y con el apoyo de eléctrico en todo momento y en las 8 horas de jornada laboral.

Here’s Chloe while we were waiting for the tech to take her back to get checked out a few hours ago. Her weight is up to 7.1 pounds (up from 6.9 a month ago), and her temp is holding steady and was 103.3 today (it was 103.2 last week). She has another temp check in a week and we are continuing the imuquin and azithromycin as planned.

I think Chloe is on the right track, though. She was a little playful this morning for the first time in a while. It was really nice to see. Please keep sending good vibes her way so that she continues to get better!

Wednesday's temperature check (7-26)

Back in the stone age of color television – to paraphrase historian (and B-52s front man) Fred Schneider, “Turn your watch, turn your watch back, about a hundred thousand years” – the futurist documentarian duo of Hanna and Barbera created a poorly rated series about a Twenty-First Century family, The Jetsons. This was in 1962! Neil Armstrong was not selected to the astronaut program until September 13, 1962 (ten days before The Jetsons’s premier episode on September 23rd). Besides, of course, the talking Roomba, that cleaned for the family, the documentary also keyed in on George’s, the family patriarch, mode of transportation to his manufacturing job at Spacely Space Sprockets. Of course he drove a flying car. George Jetson had one sixty years ago; what took so long to be a reality? Well, finally last Tuesday, the FAA released their official plan for the rollout of these long-dreamed-of air taxis. Because who among us hasn't been in a cab and thought, you know, that guy should be flying an airplane? These air taxis - they're not here yet, but we've seen drawings and prototypes. They look like a cross between a car and a kind of oversized toy drone, and something about them just screams Titanic submersible. BTW, I was wondering when the tragedy and the timing would intersect for - that's a joke. And we just found out! Personally, I’m a little more afraid of the intersection of artificial intelligence and cab drivers like the ones from 1990’s Martian documentary, Total Recall. Those cab drivers were too nice and safety conscious. It made the whole movie seem unrealistic. Fortunately, Elon Musk is still screwing up “X” and not available to make self-driving Teslas. Oh wait, he has and they act exactly like you’d expect from a cab driver.

So, while I check both ways before crossing in front of a flying taxi, I’ll be online and teleworking.

Okay but what did the twins do with Nacho after the vet sewed him up? Did they just drop him off at his house like OK love you pls don't die👍 and pick him up the morning after like Heyyy get in we're going on a murder spree! Did they take him back to wherever they're staying (Hector's place?) to keep watch over him throughout the night? Did he wake up at like 3 am bc Leonel went to get himself a snack and sits by his bed eating fruity pebbles out of the box? Did they change his dressings in the morning? Did they pat him dry when he started cold sweating in the middle of the night? Did they have to hold a glass of water to his patched lips? Did they spoon feed him breakfast? Did Marco sit on the edge of the bed gently stroking his thumb over the needle prick in the bend of Nacho's left arm? Did Nacho try to not show how much pain he was in, holding back tears, insisting on walking on his own? Did he complain that he was freezing, expecting to be given another blanket and ending up with an assassin who's overly comfortable with platonic affection cuddled up in bed with him? Did he mumble one of their names when his father came to check on him as he slept on the couch the next night?

1/01/2023 8:07PM / I am thunderous as ever and yet for so long I could not see. I blindfolded myself and tried to follow pleasure. I grew tired of storms, tired of fire - I wished for pearls and ribbons instead. But my desire is like the sun, bright to a dangerous degree, ever-blazing. Nothing has changed, only now I have an awareness of it. I don't want violence, I want love bites. I don't want to drown, I want to cleanse.
