Terf discourse is so wild to me.

Why do they care that someone wants to call themselves queer? The entire start of calling for equality was based on people who called themselves queer. We are the queer community. I won't let a bunch of people who treat others as subhuman take that from me. I searched for so long to find who I am and bought into that nasty rhetoric of "queer being a slur" that they push until I realized that I AM QUEER. I am PROUD.

I also am HORRIFIED that people that say they are concerned for the welfare of women and then EXCLUDE women that aren't like them. It reeks of racism, misogyny, and the obvious transphobia and misandry. You can't say ALL WOMEN and then exclude transwomen because THEY ARE WOMEN. You can't say ALL WOMEN and exclude nonbinary afab people because they still experience the same issues as cis women. YOU CANNOT SAY ALL WOMEN AND EXCLUDE WOMEN.

Now to bring up the "hygenic" posts. You know who else pulled that shit? N*zis and other racists. They called Jewish people, black people, Natives, basically anyone that was not white dirty. "Jokes" were made about how filthy they were and now all of you are adopting this as your own "secret"? No honeyboo. You are screaming that you are antisemitic and racist. Which, most of us already knew.

Quit trying to hide your filthy behavior behind feminism. It is gross.

I've said it before and I'll say it again the way terfs talk about men legit reads like severe trauma-induced paranoia at times and it legit almost makes me sad cuz that really highlights on how terfs prey on hurt, vulnerable women by affirming the unhealthy fear their trauma has left them with and then making it worse and worse until they are completely fucking brainwashed soldiers spreading hate and bigotry convinced they're doing the right thing and protecting women from going through what they went through.

Cuz like god being a survivor really can leave you with a lasting fear of men, but rather than addressing how that's basically an unhealthy and unsustainable coping mechanism you need to work on letting go of terfs just go "no you're RIGHT all men ARE horrible evil monsters who WILL hurt you given the chance yes ALL of them and you SHOULD let that fear control your entire life until you are filled with hatred for every single man and masculinity and use that hate to perpetuate horrid bigotry against trans people, bi women, and anyone else who doesn't hate and fear men the same way you do" and I mean god it legit just feels like women are being lured into a hateful cult-like ideology that affirms and enables their mental illness/trauma responce because it's easier than actually working on their problems and that's SO fucked.

Like we talk about the aphobe to terf pipeline and the well-meaning feminist to radfem to terf pipeline but goddamn if there isn't a clear, very depressing and concerning sexual assault survivor to terf pipeline and I feel like we should talk about it more. Idk what to DO about it but we should at least talk about it.

This post is different for my normal posts. It is a rant about TERFs and one of the miriad ways in each they are wrong and fill my heart with anger. If you are a TERF please block me. And if you are trigerred by transphobia and TERF discourse, I wish you the best, but also this post isn't for you (we will he back to the silly batman things soon) keep scrowling, find better blogs.

Anyway TERFS piss me off.

Like all they say are just soo wrong. And was talked about for soo many people, all smarter and better than me.

But there is a particular thing people often don't talk about: the adultification of trans woman. As an example I recently saw a video where a terf used the old and stupid conservative tatic of "think of the childrem" by saying more or less this words (I'm evoking them for memory): "If I sended my 5th grader daugther to a summer camp and discovered there was a man calling himself a woman sharing sleeping in her cabin, showering with her, he would be in jail. Firstly my husband would beat him up and them he would be in jail."

Now there are a miriad of problems with this rethoric, but a thing that draw my attencion was that she is talking about a 5th grader summer camp and so her speach can mean only two things:

1. She would be totaly fine with a grown woman sharing the cabin with the kids, sleeping and showering with them as long as this adult in the mist of 10-11yo was cis. Wich I think is weird. Why would you see no problem with a 40 yo woman showering with a bunch of ten year olds? And what kindda of weird summer camp even let the monitors sleep and shower with the childrem? They have their own private cabins for a reason.

2. Or this hypoteticall "man" is a 10 year old transgirl. In this case she is saying she thinks is okay for her husband to beat up a child and that after the same kid should be locked up in jail. Not even juvie. Jail. This ten years old comited such an awfull crime by existing and being herself that she deserves to be beaten bloddy (by an adult man) and throwed in jail. Because nothing says "down with the patriarchy" more than grow man beating up and locking alway a little girl for the crime of being different, I guess.

I do belive the second option is more likely what the TERF wanted to say (or she is stupid and dodn't really though his analogy through, as always in 50/50 in the game of malice or stupidy with this people). That she ignored the consequences and used the word man with so much enphasis because to people like her trans woman are pedophiles, they can't be kids because they are dirty and evil and sexual abusers who attack our woman and childrem and all this bigotred bs. This is the image she belives and so is the image she wants to sell people. And to do that she was to see this imaginary transgirl as a random adult man that only her can see. That while everyone is seing a kid, she can see the harmfull monster behind it, she can see how this can't be a child. Because the thing in her fantasy her husband is beating a pedo, a slimy, creepy, adult man pretending to be a little girl and that is the narrative she will tell and a lot of people will be afraid and agree without realizing that what they are actually agreing with is that her husband should beat up a little girl, that this adult man should be beating a 5th grader bloddy while his wife and other bigots sheer.

We talk a lot about how TERFS infantilize trans man (I even like to joke that between being a transman and autistic most upper class white woman must see me as a literal toddler) but we often forget to talk about how they adultific young transwoman and how this narrative exists as a way to further the non-sensical and damaging narrative that transwoman are predators and pedophiles.

Just to end in a nicer place: trans woman are woman, trans man are man, nb people are valid and no form of queer identy turns someone into a predator or a pedophile. We are just people trying to live our lifes with basic human dignity and if anyone has a problem against it they are the disgusting weirdos.

I hate the “2+2 does not equal five, and it will never equal five” TERF argument.

But I like that they brought up math and basic categories because it offers insight that they have missed in their apples and oranges fallacy.

2+2=4, and 2x2=4. Same result, same basic components, different process. 3x4=12, and 6x2=12. Same result, same process, but different components.

We know that a spoon is not a fork, right? But what about a spork? It doesn’t look like an average fork or spoon, but it functions in the same way. It’s both a spoon and a fork in the ways that matter.

Sex is not very easily changed, but it can be. And gender is even more fluid, with everyone’s experiences being different and constantly changing.

That’s why you can’t easily compare it to arithmetic or basic functions. Because it isn’t that simple.

Just a reminder - terfs purposely seek out people they can invalidate and incite into rage just to convince others that their victims are worth invalidating. It's not about convincing the victim that they're not what they know they are, but convincing someone else to join their fight.

It's vicious, underhanded, and cruel. I fight them because there are young, impressionable LGBT kids out there that will see it and think they're not worth defending. All kids are worth defending, even if you don't agree with who they are as a person.

I have decades of battling those who would invalidate me under my belt. The rage is performative only in that I'm not mad for myself, I'm mad at what they're doing to kids. Do not trust their lies and baiting.

Reminder: no one but you can decide your labels. Not me, not the terfs (they chose that label, just so you know. Then they got mad when others used it to call out their transphobia) and not your parents/guardians. You are you and no one knows you better than yourself.

I would also guarantee you that if these terfs used any other minority as a target, they'd be called out just as violently as I have defended the trans community. There would be rage, there would be insults for daring to tell someone they're lesser for something out of their control. So why should terfs get a free pass?

Terfs aren't feminists. They appropriate feminism for their transphobia. They are no different to those who would make it illegal to treat transpeople in the way that psychology/psychiatry insists is the most helpful way to treat them.

Try getting to know a transperson on a genuine level before concluding the "calm" terf has better points than the enraged, invalidated minority.

I was in a psych ward for a while and my second roommate was a radical feminist who brought Woman Hating by Andrea Dworkin and Pornland by Gail Dines (we were allowed 2 paperbqck books at the one I was at) and she let me read them, that's actually what introduced me to being critical and eventually anti pornography

We talked about politics and thought we disagreed on a lot of the terfy stuff and she was a bit rude at times, I never feared for my physical safety from her. I find some of her opinions harmful but we never raised our voices and we both had really good conversations throughout the 2 weeks we were there

On Discomfort and Morality

My father finds gay men uncomfortable.

He's told me before that it's like a knee-jerk for him. Something he doesn't consciously control. He sees two men behaving romantically, and his body reacts with mild discomfort.

In the 1960s, when he was in high school, most of the boys in his form thought he was gay on the simple fact that he wasn't homophobic. He wouldn't participate in insulting queer people, he didn't care if someone was gay, he wouldn't have a problem hanging out with gay people. So people thought he was gay. That's how prevalent homophobia was in his formative years.

When I was 10, my dad told me very seriously that Holmes and Watson were gay. That it was obvious from the literature and the time period that they were meant to be a gay couple. When I was 14 and I came out to my parents as bi, when my mum was upset my dad ripped into her for it. Told her that she was being stupid, that it was my life to live how I wanted to and that she needed to get over herself.

My dad formed my views on censorship: that being that it was completely ridiculous and thoroughly evil. He didn't believe in censorship of any kind. If I asked him a question about sex, he answered it honestly. When I was 12 and I asked him about homosexuality, still young and uncertain, he told me that there was nothing wrong with it. That it was just how some people were. That there was likely an evolutionary reason for it. And that for some people it was uncomfortable on an instinctual level.

He taught me that just because you're uncomfortable with something, doesn't make it wrong. He also taught me that most people don't understand this.

I see a lot of this on the internet as of the last few years. The anti shipping movement, the terf movement, the anti ace movement. It all stems from discomfort that people have crossed wires into believing means wrong. Really every -ism and -phobia out there stems from this same fundamental aspect of humanity.

The next time you see something and you automatically think it's disgusting, or wrong, or immoral, I invite you to ask yourself: is this actually wrong or does this just make me uncomfortable?

this is actually interesting. how prone to mental gymnastics terfs are. it's somewhat viral by now the stupid tweet from jordan kermit rowling denying that nazis hated trans people and then moving the goal post. first claiming that the nazis burning books on trans healthcare was a fever dream, and when presented with proof that it very clearly happened, she changed the claim completely, as though she never said that nazis hating trans people was a lie, she just meant that "trans people weren't their first victims and not all books were burned!", as though that's not a completely different and unrelated claim

because not only terfs agree with nazis when it comes to trans people (filthy degenerates!) but they know that agreeing with nazis on anything at all is "bad rep", so they rely on denying that nazis ever hated trans people at all, therefore not only erasing trans history but also an important part of the history of the holocaust: the book burnings - but also it shows how easily they twist and deliberately misinterpret the words of anyone that goes against them. im not agreeing with nazis, you just don't know what they actually believed in. you have sources? oh, but you can't have sources to this other unrelated baseless claim someone else "on your side" did, therefore im still right and you're still wrong, and you look stupid when you try to defy that.

Couldn’t help but notice this reblog in a certain recent “queer is a slur” discourse post.

Beyond being ahistorical, it is significant in its third paragraph, which is almost entirely made up with TERF and alt right dog whistles. For anyone who has even a basic idea of what to look for, this blogger has just outright shown their hand.

Let’s start from the beginning of the text I’ve marked in blue:

“a pedophilia and incest apologist”

This is a very handy tactic especially prevalent in alt-right rhetoric these days. It stigmatises anything it is attached to, in this case the person who coined the term “queer theory.” Topics like pedophilia and incest are extremely taboo and emotionally laden, and attaching them to a subject will cause many people to automatically distance themselves from that term out of a semi-instinctive desire to not associate themselves with such things. Spread this attachment widely enough, and you can push entire groups into abandoning terminology, praxis, and people.

For the record, I’m not sure of the source for this claim. The woman who coined the term “queer theory” was Teresa de Laurentis, and I’ve never seen anything by her which tries to excuse pedophilia or incest. She certainly wrote about the gendered nature of incest, but this was in no way laudatory. This may also be a reference to the work of Gloria Anzaldua, who helped further popularize the term. She spoke frankly and openly about her sexual fantasies, many of them of a taboo nature, because of her firm belief in de-stigmatizing discussions about human sexual behaviour. Not only are such fantasies extremely common, they are in no way apologetics for real life abuse, nor do they predict real life behaviour.

“a straight woman with a fetish for gay men”

We’ve gotten to the transphobic dogwhistle now. This is an accusation frequently used against trans men and nonbinary AFAB people, especially those who pursue relationships with men. With the current surge in transphobic public rhetoric, it has received a new breath of life, and trans mlm are currently facing a slew of accusations of being straight women/girls who have just fetishized gay men to the point that they’re trying to “become” gay men/boys themselves (CW: link leads to transphobic hate site genderhq.org). These accusations are even being used in queer circles--including by trans people--to gatekeep who “gets” to write fiction about mlm. Just a week ago, for example, queer writer Alex Marraccini accused indie trans mlm author Ana Mardoll of fetishizing mlm, claiming that Ana’s “fetishistic” writing isn’t nearly as groundbreaking or liberating as the work of real cis gay men.

I’m not sure who the blogger is referring to here as there’s no real consensus on who first used the term “queer studies.” However, I think they may be referring to Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, who was most certainly not a straight woman. She was queer and came out as a trans man, though as far as I know continued to publicly prefer she/her pronouns (hence my own pronoun use here).

“use intentionally over academic language”

Ah, good old anti-intellectualism. If I can’t understand you, you must be using over-academic language just to confuse me on purpose. This dogwhistle not only gives people an excuse to dismiss anything they don’t understand straight away, it pushes the conspiracy theory that we academics are part of an ivory tower conspiracy to Queer Everything for...reasons (see below).

Aaaand here we are, the full show of the hand. This blogger is either alt-right or well down the pipeline to becoming one. The old chestnut that These Academics We Disagree With are all secret Marxists is one that is, you guessed it, strongly tied into antisemitism and Nazi conspiracies that push the belief that Karl Marx, Marxism, and Marxists are part of a global Jewish conspiracy that seeks to destroy the West.

And of course we have one more “incest and pedophilia” whistle to round things off, just to doubly ensure that people understandably disgusted by those things attach them to queer theorists.

Anyway, once again I beg the good people of Tumblr to please pay close attention to TERF rhetoric, where it comes from, how it’s used, and the other movements that it is tied to. I am not being a paranoid conspiracist when I say that “queer is a slur” discoursers and “pedophilia and incest” scaremongers and their ilk (including anti-kink discoursers) are tied to TERF rhetoric, which is itself allied increasingly with the alt right. They are telling you this for themselves. Listen to them when they tell you who they are.

The concept of "Being viewed as transmisogynistic is worse than actual acts transmisoginy" has reached it's logical extreme and the term Terf has become so muddled that now it's becoming a common tactic to accuse trans women of being TERFs to have the veneer of trans allyship while harassing trans women. It's being used from "drinking radfem koolaid" said by trans androphobia truthers to "you look like a garden variety TERF" by a PickMe Transfem looking to throw her sisters under the bus to trans women being called gender essentialists for making egg jokes.

And it not just Terf accusations. It's also accusing trans of being Crypto Channers or kiwifarms users. Basically any predator of trans women are becoming the new smokescreen to harass trans women under and it's fucking insulting and disgusting. TERFs are a hate group that's specifically seeking our genocide. Kiwifarms is a site dedicated to doxing us and painting us as sexual predators.

Not only is it paradoxical and impossible for a trans woman to be a TERF but the attempt to paint them as one is an act of violence. It is attempt to to not only ostracize us from the wider queer community but from from our sisters. The very small community that we had to carve for ourselves to feel the smallest amount of safety. It's lying and giving otherwise trans positive people the greenlight to harass us and tell themselves that they are doing it to protect the rest of us from us.

If you find yourself falling for this you seriously need to reevaluate your allyship to trans women.
