finally *finally* i get to see canon content confirming that one thing i read years ago that not only have shion and mion have switched places, but shion was the older sister. the og mion, and she ‘let’ mion have the name (and let her become the successor)

it is interesting to see, as a trans person, as a nonbinary person, in a place where gender (presentation, expression) is getting more freedom and visibility, to be reading this story set further back with rigid concepts on gender rules.

the whole arc with mion wanting a doll, but being afraid of asking for it because she’s a tomboy, or worrying about the shift on keiichi’s end for treating her ‘like a girl’ when he’s treated her ‘like a boy’,

of mion wanting to be viewed as a girl regardless of how she acts, ‘i should’ve been born a boy’ to cover up her rejection when keiichi doesn’t give her the doll...

it’s interesting. I’m trying to think how this would play out these days (not in a strict place still reinforcing gender shit tho). a world where mion can be a tomboy and however ‘unfeminine’ she wants to be while still claiming her womanhood because she wants to be a girl and she wants to be seen as a girl and she deserves that.

in a world, like we see glimpsed in minagoroshi where keiichi just follows up with giving the doll to her like ‘i can gift guys too, so even if i’m treating you the way i would treat a guy i can still give you a gift and you shouldn’t reject that’

to be able to see mion the way she feels inside no matter how she chooses to present herself

so theres a part where irie explains that satoko’s condition, as far a long as it is:

‘once a patient reaches L5 state like Satoko-chan has, it’s easy for them to re-experience hallucinations, similar to a patient suffering from flashbacks. those technically aren’t caused by the disease, but the normal defense mechanisms cultivated in the brain.’

so like.... in gou satoko might want to be in control, or even think she is. but her trauma paired with the stress of repeating these worlds, of trying to find the perfect one, of trying to use everyone and everything to her advantage is still wearing on her in ways she can’t really stop.

ohh now shion is taking back her name, taking back her role. this actually reads really well to what the demon in her is. because demon is *in* Mion’s name, with the kanji. And Mion got the tattoo, and became Mion permanently. But the demon belonged to the older sister, so of course during Shion’s break and with what she knows of her family, of course Shion would look to this emptiness inside herself, this anger and pain, and give it the name demon.

Before, Shion seems like she was either okay with becoming Shion after things settled, or she learned to accept it as time passed. Being Shion permanently took her away from the Sonozaki house, and from being the heir, and she genuinely seems okay with it.

(except of course, in this arc, where she finds fault years down the line because if she were Mion, then she might’ve been able to directly save Satoshi)

There’s just this whole other facet to explore now, adding this to how both sisters feel about being Mion and Shion respectively, how they view each other and their roles.
