I imagine it started with like, separate couples. Like bb and rae kinda sorta got together during all the terra drama (both also in love with her) and drew her back to their side with the power of love but it’s a while before she agrees to date them both bc she’s not in a great place after all that. And then robin and star got together obvs, uhaul lesbians always. Meanwhile star and cy have been hooking up long before she and Robin officially start dating. Star is like if u wanna be exclusive it’s fine cy and I are just post-gym adrenaline fuckbuddies, no romance just sweaty buff alien robot porking. And Robin is like 😳 umm….ok… but eventually is like please continue doing that not because I’m into it or anything. And then eventually he and cy start dating too and that was cyborgs plan all along. Then BB is like “my best bro is dating my bro….I am….third wheel?? 🥺” and so he starts flirting with cy constantly (poorly) and interrupting their dates with Robin like a weirdo. Until everyone has to sit him down and explain gently that he has a crush on cyborg and they should just date already. Meanwhile with their bfs dating new people raven and star tend to hang out more (raven thought this would result in more alone time for her but alas star keeps finding her) and star keeps making jokes like “everyone else is dating when are we gonna get together raven?? Haha just kidding…unless?” And I think that takes a much longer time to happen, like after terra returns and the bbterraven minicule is complete and they get comfy being together and raven becomes a little more emotionally available. Star keeps patiently pining. Until raven looks at her one day and is like huh. We should be holding hands. And then they do.

Continue from last ask: like for soriku. Terraven is everything. It's hope for Riku, but for Sora it's a mature relationship. It's him growing up. His crush on Kairi is him as kid, and teenager, but seeing Terraven makes Sora think and realize things he never thought before. He wants to grow up and have an honest relationship like Terraven.

Dude, yes?!?!?! Sora has always kind of gone with the flow when it comes to his emotions. He liked Kairi and felt protective of her, therefore he must love her. And it was easy to 'love' her, because they got along really well, and because Kairi was always so nice, and whenever he was around her, he felt like he was surrounded by light.

What he never understood was how, as he got closer and closer to Kairi, Riku felt like he was slipping further and further away. Which hurt and made Sora want to cling harder, in whichever stupid way he could - battling him with swords, helping him with the raft, chasing after him and going along with whatever weird idea Riku came up with next - even though he didn't understand anything that was going on.

Traveling through worlds for the first time was also the first time he put his foot down and said no to Riku. When before he wouldn't disagree to a weird race, he flat-out told Riku he was stupid. When before he would bow down to Riku's superior might, he kept getting up to stop Riku from taking Kairi's heart. The divide had never been greater... but then, just as Riku was shutting himself away, Riku was himself again, smiling again, telling Sora to protect Kairi again...

And Sora made another choice. This time, instead of going with Kairi, he would chase after Riku. Not because Riku egged him into doing so, nor because he felt Riku was slipping away from him, but because he wanted to.

As time passed, Sora realized he was always following Riku because he wanted to. He enjoyed being with Kairi, but he didn't seek her out the way he did Riku. He didn't fight with and play with and tease and laugh with her the way he did Riku. The more he traveled, the more he yearned to share what he saw with Riku. Yet despite always asking where Riku was and trying to see him, he thought it was just friendship - the closest, dearest friendship he could ever have.

It wasn't until he saw Terra and Ven together - holding hands, leaning their foreheads together - that he thought there was anyone with a 'friendship' like his and Riku's. It made something warm grow inside him. It wasn't his imagination. It was real. Others had it, too.

He was about to say something - he didn't even know what, maybe just saw hello to fellow comrades like himself - when Ven leaned up on his toes and pressed a short, chaste kiss to Terra's lips. Sora's heart burst open like fireworks had broken free.

Oh. Oh.

He loved Riku.

It seemed so obvious once he said the words to himself in that order. He loved Riku. Of course he felt like there was light when he was near Kairi - he felt the same around Belle, around Alice, around Jasmine and Rapunzel. But his heart felt different around Riku - stable and steady, sometimes, like a placid lake. Like starlight at other times, bursting into sudden, intense life within his chest. Specifically when he hugged Riku and made Riku laugh.

For the first time, he felt like he understood himself. He knew why he took the actions he did all these years. Going along with Riku because it was Riku teasing him, not the idea of sharing a paopu with Kairi (of Riku sharing a paopu with Kairi), that made butterflies erupt in his chest and fear jump inside him. Reaching for Riku as Destiny Islands fell because it didn't matter where they ended up or what was going on, so long as Riku was with him. Searching for Riku because there was no point in a Destiny Islands if Riku wasn't there with him.

He wanted to be with Riku because he loved him.

Duh.

No wonder he'd felt connected to Terra and Ventus! They'd already figured themselves out. (Which made sense, since they were keyblade wielders long before him! he thinks, ignoring how they'd been asleep for a decade.) And it was weird, a little bit, how he no longer felt like there were butterflies in his stomach (well, he did feel that way when he thought about confessing, but it felt good); Sora had never felt calmer, more sure of himself and the worlds around him and his place in them. He felt like he fit inside his skin.

"Riku!" he called out, and watched the young man immediately stop talking to Mickey and turn to him.

Sora leaped at his friend, absolutely certain he would be caught. And he was, though Riku made a startled noise and berated him with a quick, "Sora!"

He was calm. Confident. Butterflies raced and raced inside his stomach, but they felt like they might be made of light. He held no doubt that he would be accepted as he leaned up and placed the same soft, chaste kiss on Riku's lips that he'd seen Ven give Terra earlier. Riku's eyes were wide when Sora lowered himself back down to his own two feet. He grinned up at the guy he loved. "Want to go home?"

Riku mouth flapped open and closed a few times. "Uh." Mickey chuckled. Riku snapped his mouth shut. "Sure?"

Sora hugged Riku's arm. It was strange. He thought he might look like a child right then, clinging on to a taller person's arm like this. But he'd never felt more sure of himself. More in control. "Then let's go! Sorry, Your Majesty. We'll see you soon, okay?"

Mickey just smiled. "Sure thing, Sora!"

He pulled Riku away. It was time they talked.

The writers’ urge to mine all ships for angst potiential—

Bbterraven poly relationship was just beginning to develop when slade manipulated Terra. Bbraven trauma-bonding over their shared Almost-partner going missing presumes dead. Terra coming back and seeing bb and raven and thinking that they chose each other ‘instead of’ her.

Just.

IMAGINE the angst

Oh I have....I HAVE!!!

Bb and Raven getting together during a shared heartbreak and their budding relationship being part of what makes terra feel alienated from the team and justify changing sides in her mind....AAUUUGHH the PAAAIIN

In my head I think about the terra arc as somewhere halfway between the show version and the comics version, where terra very much suffers from intense anxiety/abandonment issues/paranoia of some kind and using her powers exacerbates those feelings (paranoid schizophrenia is certainly a possibility for her but I don't want to pathologize too directly and risk villainizing psychotics; I wanna be clear her violence and rage is a learned reaction to fear and confusion from past trauma, and not something inherent to a mental illness. and her turn to Slade reeks of the trauma response of returning to familiar (abusive) roles under stress).

Somehow we get an ending where she is saved but not turned to stone (handwave) but though bb and Raven tell her their feelings, she probably rejects them at first! None of them are in a good head space with each other to form a relationship at that point. Terra goes through months and months of therapy before they begin to slowly rekindle things.

And I don't think she is a part of the team. Like, she is not actively heroing because using her powers is bad for her mental health - emergencies and parlor tricks only. That's a whole other angst arc with her dealing with being left alone in the tower and unable to help and the survivors guilt of it all if one of them gets hurt and the inevitable moment where she has to go all out earthbending style to save someone and then she runs away because she has some intrusive thoughts that terrify her and they have to go after her and talk her back down and make sure she knows she's a good person, and a hero to them for all the progress she's made. 😭😭😭
