MOON KNIGHT
A reading guide for his solo books.
Hi! So, over the past days I have updated my initial "reading guide", this is of course nothing official or the best guide, it is just how I have been reading these and getting information about the Moonies (Marc, Steven, Jake, MK and Mr. Knight... the whole crew).
I will sort of divide this list but I will explain the why I did it as I move forward. Also, the runs that I haven't read will be written in bold and italics, that's because if anyone wants to ask me anything about Moon Knight they should be aware that I am missing some lore.
And I haven't read any major team up books with Moon Knight, not West Coast Avengers, Defenders or Marvel Knights, the only one that appears here is Avengers Vol.8 because in the issues mentioned the story "Age of Khonshu" was developed and as the name suggests there was some major Moon Knight action there that explains why things are the way they are in the current ongoing book.
Anyway, without any further ado, the guide:
Origins:
• Werewolf by Night Vol.1 #32-33 by Doug Moench • Marvel Spotlight Vol.1 #28-29 by Doug Moench
Origins But Better and the Start of Khonshu (only as a statue):
• Moon Knight Vol.1 by Doug Moench #1-38 • Moon Knight Vol.2 by Alan Zelenetz #1-6 • Marc Spector: Moon Knight Vol 1 (1989–1994) #1-60 o Chuck Dixon #1-34 o Terry Kavanagh #35-60 • Moon Knight Vol.3 by Doug Moench #1-4 • Moon Knight Vol.4 by Doug Moench #1-4
The New and Miserable Marc Spector with Khonshu (not statue):
• Moon Knight Vol.5 (2006): o Charlie Huston #1-13 o Mike Benson #14-30 • Moon Knight: Silent Night (one-shot) by Peter Milligan • Vengeance of the Moon Knight Vol 1 by Gregg Hurwitz #1-10 • Shadowland: Moon Knight by Gregg Hurwitz #1-3
Moon Knight but in LA:
• Moon Knight Vol.6 by Michael Brian Bendis #1-12
Mr. Knight is here and Khonshu has left the chat:
• Moon Knight Vol.7 (2014): o Warren Ellis #1-6 o Brian Wood #7-12 o Cullen Bunn #13-17
Marc... and Khonshu? Wait what is going on?:
• Moon Knight Vol.8 (2016): o Jeff Lemire #1-14 o Max Bemis #188-200 • Avengers Vol.8 o Jason Aaron “Age of Khonshu” arc #33-37
Welcome to the Midnight Mission:
• Moon Knight Vol.9 (2021): o Jed MacKay #1-9, Moon Knight: Devil’s Reign, #10-ongoing. • Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood Vol.1
Alright, that's all, I think... If you want to ask about the Moonies you are more than welcome to do so, do not get fooled by my tumblr name and profile pic, I am in my Moon Knight era and it seems that I won't go away any time soon.

What is Rachel? Even Rachel doesn’t quite know. She’s her, but not her, also, yeah, she can’t really get hurt. It all starts when Rachel wakes up in a shallow grave, she was dead apparently, and then she wasn’t, sorta kinda. Oh, and, she definitely wants to find out who killed her (no memory of the night before she wound up in the shallow grave).
This was awesome (not surprising since it’s Terry Moore). It was a lot of thriller and supernatural, and some horror in there too. And, such a fun read. Can’t read to dig into the next volumes.
You may like this book If you Liked: Tombs by Junji Ito, Revival by Tim Seeley, or Gideon Falls by Jeff Lemire

Picked up both volumes of Jeff Lemire's "Teen Titans: Earth One" for cheap at Dollarama the other day. I found them to be very solid reimaginings of the "Teen Titans" characters in a context that I think "Runaways" fans will appreciate.
As an attempt to create a unified origin for a cast of characters from wildly differing sources they make good use of an infant Starfire as the catalyst of the story. With the notable exception of Raven, all of the Titans are the product of orphaned babies being grafted with Tamaranean DNA by Star Labs. Raised by Star Lab employees in a small town in Oregon, the Titans powers finally emerge towards their first day of high school. I'll spare the details for those interested, but the first volume results in: Victor, Gar, Tara, and Tempest running away.
It works surprisingly well, and while there are definitely strong similarities to "Runaways" I think it more pulls from something slightly more obscure. That being Gail Simone's reboot of "Gen13" from Wildstorm. They're pretty much the same thing if I'm beinh honest, but in general the Titans are a more palatable read than "GEN13."
The art by the Dodsons in the first volume is lovely, very reminiscent of early "Generation X." It works very well for the small town Oregon setting, and the loud teenage emotions. Andy Macdonald's art in the second volume is a considerable departure but it works well for the added action and grit. There's a bit of an adjustment needed to appreciate between volumes but I think they were both visually enjoyable.
Apologies for the wall of text, but I enjoyed these comics. Got them for a bargain, and it scratched an itch. Unfortunately the second volume was originally published almost 5 years ago, and it looks doubtful that there will ever be a third. But if you're looking for Teen Titans through the lens of Runaways, these are worth exploring.

Teen Titans: Earth One Review
By Julian Hayden
I’m back after a hiatus and ready to review many more graphic novels. Allow me to get back into the swing of things with a review about a reimagining of everybody’s favorite teenage superheroes.
Teen Titans: Earth One was written by Jeff Lemire (Essex County Trilogy), penciled by Terry Dodson (Harley Quinn, Uncanny X-Men), inked by Rachel Dodson (Avenging Spider-Man) and Cam Smith (The Incredible Hulk), and colored by Brad Anderson (Supergirl, Action Comics). It is part of the Earth One line of DC Comics where classic DC Comics characters are given a contemporary reimagining. The story is about Victor Stone, Tara Markov, Gar Logan, and Joey Wilson, a group of high school students who when they get a telepathic distress call from an alien named Starfire who is being held captive and tested on by Star Labs, discover their parents aren’t who they say they are and discover their latent superpowers. After discovering their powers the group decides to go rescue Starfire, which is easier said than done. They have to master their budding superpowers as well as deal with Star Labs most dangerous operative, Joey’s father, Slade Wilson (ya know, Deathstroke). Eventually though through teamwork and determination, and some help from a Navajo girl named Raven, the group is able to overcome obstacles and save the day.
This is a very entertaining graphic novel. It manages to take a new spin on the Teen Titans, while staying true to the spirit of the characters and the original comic. There are some elements to the story that since they are used so frequently in other comics that they feel a little overused and a bit unoriginal. The story is entertaining enough though where you forget about discrepancies and just enjoy the ride. I loved the dynamic between the four main characters, especially when they are figuring out their powers. For those of you who don’t know who is who, Victor Stone is Cyborg, Tara Markov is Terra, Gar Logan is Beast Boy, and Joey Wilson is Jericho. Hopefully in a sequel they introduce other characters like Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash.
The artwork is very is a style that I can’t really put my finger on. There is a cartoon quality to it, which makes sense because Teen Titans wasn’t a very serious or dark comic book in the first place. What the style of art this is, I’m just going to label it for now as really god damn cool.
In conclusion this comic is perfect for people who are looking for a new spin on classic characters, or who are just looking for a fun graphic novel to read while they’re baking a cake or something. I don’t know what you all like to do while reading graphic novel, and I’m not here to judge. Come to think of it, cake would go really well with Teen Titans: Earth One.
Rating: 7.9/10

A Teen Titans Earth One Review
Tumblr media
In case you don't know, DC's Earth One is (or was?) a line of graphic novels that are similar to Marvel's Ultimate line of comic books. They take well-known superheroes and start their stories in more modern times, then progress from there. They are separate from the mainstream DC universe.
Story:
A group of teenagers, each with their own personal issues, begin manifesting strange abilities and/or mutations. As they set out to find answers to what's happening to them, a clandestine group of scientists work to observe and contain them.
My thoughts:
This two-book series probably features the most overall deviations from its mainstream counterpart. Traditionally, the Teen Titans are a group of young superheroes, many with ties to big-name Justice Leaguers, form their own group to fight crime and villainy. The Earth One Titans, however, have no known ties to any other superheroes. In fact, they're not really superheroes themselves. They aren't about saving lives and making the world a safer place. They're just a group of teenagers who suddenly and mysteriously wind up with powers, then find out that none of their parents are who they thought they were, so they're looking for answers. It's similar to Marvel's Runaways in that way.
Actually, they're not all part of the same group at first. The kids who become Victor, Tara, Garfield, and Joey all know each other from school (Victor and Tara are dating). Raven, however, lives miles away and only discovers them because her Native American magic somehow connects her to the imprisoned alien Starfire that is also telepathically contacting the other four. No Mother Boxes, no Trigon, and no Robin or Superboy.
I'm not entirely sure what kept me from really embracing this story. I think it was a combination of many little things. I don't have a strong affinity for the Teen Titans in general. I'm not into stories about angsty teenagers unless the Gospel and faith in God end up being what saves them. I didn't find Victor or Tara to be that likable (though Tara had a good excuse for her attitude). Deathstroke isn't as cool (though he's a lot nicer). Garfield has two gay dads, which is totally unnecessary except to normalize sin. And the kids are mainly fighting for themselves rather than working to help others.
Though I'm always uncomfortable with magic in stories, I found Raven to be the most likable character, maybe because she was the most level-headed. And I definitely was more into the second book than the first since that's when everyone came together and things really picked up.
I don't know who to recommend these books to. Not me, I guess, though the art was fine and I liked them much more than Wonder Woman Earth One. It wasn't beating me over the head with any wonky messages, at least. But I don't feel like I would've missed much by skipping this.
