We’re back!! My friend gave me this little beauty that she found at a Goodwill, falling apart on the shelf. What little glue is left in the spine is rapidly cracking and crumbling off, and the pages are very browned. I’m so glad she thought of me when she saw it, and I’m excited to share it with y’all!

The Art of Barbecue and Outdoor Cooking, by Tested Recipe Institute, published 1958 by Bantam Books

This has so many of my favorite traits in a cookbook. Lithographed illustrations depicting cooking methods and gimmicky accessories, novel uses (as we’ll charitably say lol) for unusual cuts of meat, a few recipes from out of left field that actually sound like they’ve got legs… lookin at you, “Pickle on a Stick” 👀💕

And just because it’s falling apart doesn’t mean it isn’t worth keeping. This is a great candidate, IMO, as a tester to try some different methods of scanning and archiving complete books. I have far more books than I have pamphlets, and it can be hard to decide what out of an entire book I want to post. So I’m looking for a way to upload the whole thing so y’all can see every weird and wonderful page 🥰

And if y’all ever want to see more of a specific section, or want me to post a certain kind of recipe, please don’t hesitate to send me an ask! It gives me some direction and gives me a better idea of what from these books y’all are looking for. Just let me know! 💕

Recipes and Comics Unite in Marvel’s “T.E.S.T. Kitchen” Infinity Comics

Marvel Comics has announced a new Infinity Comic that will merge the culinary arts with the comic arts. T.E.S.T. Kitchen hails from chef Paul Eschbach and artist E.J. Su. The comic will contain stories and recipes.

Anna Ameyama is a high end chef who takes a shot running her very own food truck. Iron Man literally crashes into her truck and Ameyama gets offered a position at Stark Enterprises.

T.E.S.T. Kitchen, featuring a cover by E.J. Su, releases on the Marvel Unlimited app on August 8, 2022.
