Missouri Pacific train CFZ departing Texarkana with an SD50, SD40-2C, two GP50's, a B30-7A, and an SD40-2 consist. The new SD50 was an unusual visitor as they were initially assigned to Powder River coal trains. The train consist was still 100% TOFC at this time. Southern Pacific had been running doublestack business for SeaLand since 1977 but Union Pacific did not buy in until 1984 when they started operating APL trains between Chicago and LA. In the background the shells of the 10 story McCartney Hotel and Texarkana Union Station can be seen above the train. Thirty years later and both building have yet to be redeveloped.

THE PHANTOM KILLER
1946 “Texas Moonlight Murders”
In the Spring of 1946 couples “parking” had a lot to fear. Dubbed the Phantom Killer, an unknown male serial killer targeted couples parked in places known to locals as Lovers Lane. One can assume what was happening when the “parking” took place.
The Phantom killer had a total of 8 victims. This included 5 deaths and 3 survivors. All the survivors reported the same thing. A well dressed man with a burlap sack over his head. They say there were 2 slits cut out for the eyes.
The prime suspect in the case was a career criminal named Youell Swinney. His wife notified police of her suspicions tying her husband to the serial murders. She later declined to testify against him and he was never charged in the deaths of the 5 victims.
Swinney passed away at the age of 77 in 1994.
Throughout the years 9 people have came forward and confessed to the murders. None of the stories matching up with details of the case. Leading police not to pursue any of the confessions. Over 400 people were arrested and questioned. Still not leading to charges being filed.
If anyone is interested there was a movie based upon this event that was released in 1976. “The Town that Dreaded Sundown”
To date the case still remains unsolved.

Possibly an FCZ or an HCZ with empty pig flats passes the west end of the yard in this post merger view.
