In Defense of Pharma

Guys I'm really tired of seeing ppl shit on Pharma solely for the incident with Ambulon. Seeing people defend Ratchet against him. Tired of people being awful to him because of things he couldn't control. People will really support the toxic ones because of the simple fact they are a popular character that everyone loves. I'm tired of pretending I like Ratchet (I adored TFA and G1 only). I don't. He's an awful guy when you look at the case with Pharma. And personally I just don't find him interesting like other characters. Ratchet fucking ruined Pharma pre-Delphi. He was this sweet guy who did his best and I strongly believe Pharma may have BPD, so that only makes what Ratchet did so much WORSE. The way Pharma attached to Ratchet reminds me of one with their FP (Favorite Person). He believed so much in Ratchet, looked up to him, considered him one of his closest friends, his FP if you will. He cared deeply about Ratchet, and it deeply affected him when he just up and fucking left without a proper goodbye. And so began a long fucking chain of him getting fucked over. Another point that gets used against him was the virus he unleashed, that wasn't his fucking fault. Tarn was pressuring him. He was stuck in an incredibly hard point. The DJD would after him if he didn't feed Tarn's addiction, he'd still be fucked even witht he fact he did it. Pharma gets stuck in the middle of nowhere with two people he doesn’t care for, and one of them is a direct target of the group blackmailing him into killing patients. There was nothing he could have done to make the situation better. And I fucking find it such BULLSHIT that First AId went to Ambulons side rather than Pharmas DESPITE THE FUCKING FACT Amublon is a ex-con, he could very well have been conspiring with Sonic and Boom. The fact Pharma got immediately blamed pisses me off. He was just doing his job, trying to keep his job, and juggle his issues with Ratchet appearing. His FP that fucking abandoned him. This is a STRONG example of how mental illness can fuck oneself over. As someone with BPD, I heavily relate to Pharma, so I am very defensive over this (no shit I'm writing a whole thing defending him). I understand his panic. His stress. The need to prove himself. A case too is with the incident of Ambulon. Yes, the way he handled the situation was awful, but think about it. He wanted to prove himself, to prove he was better than the asshole who left him behind. So how does he do it? Give a prompt to Ratchet that he KNOWS he can't fix, prove that Ratchet is not as good as he thinks he is. And as for Tryest, it's another situation of lose/lose. I didn't pay much attention to that bit of the story but I can say that Pharma was dealing with that whole 'I need to prove im better than these jerks so everyone will like me and need me' BPD mess he has going on. A person with BPD often seeks validation from others, needing FPs to love them and respect only them, which is why he usually claims himself as the best medic. He needs the validation, that boost to his fragile ego that is crumbling with every second. Plus Tyrest promised him a place in the forged only world he was planning. It made him feel valid and needed. He chased that feeling. And then Ratchet came along and started to derail his mind. Leading him to do something that ultimately painted him in a bad light. And he proved he was stronger within the Lost Light comics. Issue 4 showed him hurtingTyrest in such a fashion that not even the best medic, not even his "beloved Ratchet" (his words, not mine), could figure out how he caused so much damage. He was pissed off. He was having a split. He was damaged. I believe we should focus more on the goods of a character, the compexity of their issues, rather than honing on one specific thing that was not that big of a fucking deal. This fandom is awful with painting certain characters as awful awful people for simple issues that can be explained very easily. NOW IF YOU'LL EXCUUUUSE ME. I'm going to take a moment to nap because I am so frustrated and overstimulated and angry rn.

First impression

So, I first met dear First Aid through fanfic. My impression of him was sweet uwu baby. You can fit so much trauma in him and he will still be a cinnamon roll.

Impression now

Having now met IDW1 Aid: He’s weird, and complaining about people is his love language. Despite being a medic, he really doesn’t handle death well. At least, not when he knew the patient. Probably a good thing he was posted on Delphi and not on a base where you know the soldiers. I could see this one killing people besides Pharma. He’s become more ruthless over the course of the series. Not cruel, just a direct point A to point B. Like door surgery.

Favorite moment

I don’t think I have one. There’s a lot that can be done with Aid, but his moments in MTME/LL (the only place I’ve seen him so far) tend to fade into the background. That being said, I think my favorite moment was when Velocity shared what he’d told her about Ratchet.

Idea for a story

So TFA First Aid, according to the Complete Allspark Almanac, is the medic version of Bumblebee’s frametype. He was picked for that reason by Sentinel Magnus to be a Protectobot, given a fancy badge and everything, because Sentinel wants his own version of Optimus’ crew. (He thinks it will make him more popular.)

I’d explore how his time working for Sentinel sucks. What it’s like to be living propaganda. His relationship with his fellow Protectobots, like Groove (motorcycle) the TFA Prowl stand in, and Hot Spot (firetruck), a war veteran meant to stand in for Optimus Prime.

Unpopular opinion

I think First Aid should have had his license temporarily suspended. His obsession with Ambulon’s body was a clear cry for help. He might have vehemently denied it, but Aid needed help. Ratchet should have, at the very least, required Aid to work with Rung. To actually get him to put in the work to deal with his issues, Ratchet should have probably suspended his license until Rung said he was actually working to improve. Sure, Aid would have probably had a temporary “I’ve given up” phase, but he’d get over it. Rung might be overly concerned with First Aid’s badge obsession, and Aid would never tell him the truth behind it. But eventually, Rung would realize it wasn’t hurting anybody and move on.

Favorite relationship

Tbh, I don’t think Aid has any in IDW. Just acquaintances. Which he really needs to fix. I love reading fics where he and Ambulon are good friends. And I love it when the Protectobots get explored. But those are AUs. Canonically, I think First Aid is a very lonely guy.

Maybe he and Velocity? I mean, they obviously did talk.

Favorite headcanon

Where First Aid was created as part of a combiner, I think he’s inside the Uncanny Valley. The way he tilts his head and stares at you with that visor of his. The way he can tell you that Blades is in a mood or Hot Spot is stressed without looking up from a patient. Or the way he just assumes you’ll be jiggy if his brothers join you two. It just isn’t natural.

First Aid is nice. But boy, is he Weird.

3...which scene I would like to erase from the universe and why.

Auuughgh I'm not even gonna try and think too much but like half the deaths and deaths fake outs in mtmte are grating me, I think if i sat down and actually tried to tell you i wouldn't come up with anything concrete or really worse erasing. Despite how much criticism i give to tf media there's barely anything that makes me mad enough to erase it from existence.

6...which is my favorite platonic or familial relationship in this world.

Charlie and Bumblebee is the biggest comfort to me!! I can't just keep talking abt idw1 LMAO their friendship is so wonderful and I hope we get to see them interact again at least briefly.

9...which characters I think should have interacted more in canon.

Oh man. It'd take another list. I think i would've loved to see Shockwave and Ambulon and combicons in general interact. Would've loved a little more into Shockwave working on the combiners and flashback on the combicons even if vaguely.

12...what attracted me into checking it out.

It's actually been with me my whole life i was a HUGE transformers kid with the first two live action movies and tfp, i just kind of fell off when i started using internet much more. I had a HUGE crush on Bumblebee, esp Animated one, even wrote Ded Moroz a letter asking for an animated bumblebee toy. With a drawing. With me and Bee.

I didn't get the toy though and my parents never indulged me cuz they weren't big fans of me being into "boys" things so fucking jokes on them now.

Though if i had to say why i got so much into it recently (its going to be exactly a year since tomorrow. LMAO) its cuz I've had a passing interest in rewatching tfp and then i kind of got Really into starbee and found out about idw1, watched the live action Bumblebee, got Transformers devastation on my laptop, started reading a Lot of starbee fanfiction and eventually started reading idw1 and watching tfa, which became an actual rabbit hole for me. And here I am........

I'll be real I mostly read fanfiction for smut cuz when it comes to anything non-shippy I'm very picky and particular w the way my favs are characterized and how things are written, but smut is somehow much less commitment to me lmao. Especially w Ambulon I'm very territorial w him.

So yea most fic I've read w him was smut.

I don't mind non-smut/ship fic recommendations I'm just bad at finding fic like that I would like lmao. Which is very funny to me cuz most stuff I write isn't really about shipping.

15...how I wish their story would go/would have gone.

He shouldn't have died like that, my entire Ambulon blog is a fix-it fanfiction. He's such a low stakes character from like. Narrative stand point, that his death is a tool for other characters "development". I don't really like how much his character was warped and twisted in general cuz Jro cannot be consistent w Ambulon for the life of him. But also I get it, y'know? His death was stupid but also not like, getting rid of another bg character is that much of a deal, even though it's insane how much personality and story he was given as a one-off character lmao.

I love the angst around his death though he makes a good story ghost.

4. Which tf character is your favorite in terms of personality?

There are so many I vibe with, but I'll go with the local cryptid, TFP Soundwave. He doesn't show much of his personality, but they made Soundwave such an interesting character in the Aligned Continuity (let's forget about RID15 for a moment) that I can't help but pay attention to him every time he emotes with his body through almost unnoticable movements, his posture, a tilt of his helm, etc.

Otherwise: G1 Perceptor, Armada Red Alert, TFP Ultra Magnus, TFA Prowl, Star Saber, almost every incarnation of Soundwave and dozens of others.

5. Is there a relationship (romantic or otherwise) between tf characters you find interesting?

Hmmm, I'm more of a fan of platonic relationships (it's important to have friends, I wish I had one), so to pick a few I'd go with: Tracks & Blaster & Mirage & Sunstreaker & Sideswipe (I think I forgot someone, it's the largest group), Arcee & Hot Rod & Springer, Strika & Obsidian, Demolishor & Snow Cat, Crumplezone & Ransack, Thundercracker & Buster, everyone & whatever random animal they find, All The Scientists (they're my science bros - I want them to be friends) and I'm leaving out so many other great friendships that escape my mind at the moment.

Romantically, I usually go with either crackships that have sprung from my mind at 3 a.m. or the rarest of rarepairs that (1) make no sense (2) will never work and (3) people will look at me funny because I can't explain why I ship this particular ship. Have some examples: Dreadwing/Wheeljack, Skyquake/Ultra Magnus, Tarn/Deathsaurus, Tarn/Gaogaigar (not entirely TF but it's so funny to me), Ultra Magnus/Side Burn, Skyfire (Jetfire)/Sky Byte, Ambulon/Rossum, and the most recent one is Wheeljack/Warpath.

The more popular ships include: Soundwave/Jazz (/Blaster eventually), Soundwave/Rodimus, Soundwave/Cosmos, Skyfire (Jetfire)/Starscream, Sandstorm/Octane, Knockout/Breakdown, Lugnut/Strika, First Aid/Vortex and occasionally Optimus Prime (Orion Pax)/Megatron (Megatronus) that solely depends on the way it is portrayed, because you have to weed out all the bad versions to see the potential behind it.

(I'll wait until the rest of Earthspark comes out to evaluate how they handled Skywarp/Hashtag <- let's hope they don't ruin it)

On a more general note, it's always interesting to see how they write relationships between siblings and gestalts.

18. Which scene from a tf media is your favorite?

Hehehe

This was such an iconic moment, I think about it quite frequently (TFP Soundwave is also my favorite character overall). I love his characterization in Prime and contrary to the popular opinion, I think he chose the perfect moment to end his vow of silence, because he does it to unsettle his enemies and this shows a level of pettiness he certainly possesses.

Starscream attacking Thrust (and the beginning of his betrayal arc) in episode 34 of Armada is a close second. The music, the expressions, even the voice acting (imo) just adds so much to what is probably one of the best character defining moments in the show.

The plot:

It starts out with the Autobots and Decepticons doing what they all usually do in their current universe. However, in the middle of a battle, something goes wrong.

Somehow, both ‘Cons and Bots get sucked through something, like a portal, and they end up on earth. However, not the earth that they were previously at. It’s an alternate earth from a different universe, and now all of them are stuck there.

The Decepticons may do minor things, such as simply stealing energy, or just anything that could be considered useful to them, but that’s not the main thing that they’re all trying to do.

What is the main thing you may ask? Well, now that everyone is in a new universe, Galvatron realizes that more probably exist as well. So, Galvatron decides to try and take over this new universe everyone is in, while also finding more new universes, and taking over some, while destroying the rest.

The two humans, CJ and October, are sixteen years old, and are siblings. Specifically, twins. October is the older one by a minute.

CJ goes by she/her, while October goes by they/them.

October’s guardian is Mirage.

CJ’s guardian is Drift.

In the original universe, everyone knew about the Cybertronians, kind of like in G1 and TFA. So none of them really needed to try and hide or anything like that.

In the new one that everyone is in, all of these humans know about them as well, because it’s kind of hard to miss alien robots coming out of a huge portal and then them frequently fighting each other.

The main Autobots and Decepticons are the only ones in that new universe for a while. The minor four for each side don’t show up for a while.

And when they do, it’s because of another portal opening up. Mainly because Galvatron requests Starscream (Who is a scientist again in this) to collect some more Decepticons for assistance, so he creates a small portal. Unfortunately for him, he also brings along four autobots.

Many other characters would be talked about/mentioned, but they probably wouldn’t actually show up. Unless it was possibly in a flashback.

For an example, the rest of the Scavengers. Krok and Spinister were just exploring, while everyone else was on the W.A.P., and Starscream happened to bring them through the portal, alongside Leozack and Breakdown.
