I’d guess Jigen would be the more “controled” driver like “I know exectly when to drift, when to hit the break and if the car fits through this street corner or not. I got this.”
And Lupin is.... well.... Lupin.... “Fuck this, I won a car-race once!”

Finally watching Goodbye Partner!  I’m watching the dub, but I have the subs on so I can read the date/location popups and signs, so I’m getting a bit of dialogue comparison.  I’ll probably go back and watch a few scenes with the original audio as well (Kiyoshi Kobayashi my beloved).
Here begins the liveblog, but all in one post and under a cut so it’s not as insufferable:
Starting strong with a heist escape sequence as per usual!  As far as openings go, it’s hard to go wrong with that.
Oh, hello, literal actual Chopin courtesy of a timeskip/flashback.
What are these RWBY-ass CGI piano hands??  Y’all warned me and you were not kidding.  Traditional rotoscoping would never hurt me in this way.
CUSTODY_OF_CHILD.JPG
Lupin playing in those see-through inflatable “hamster” balls skdfjskjdflsl
Intricate Rituals.  Jiglup gunplay confirmed
Epcar’s delivery here was so much more aggressive than Kobayashi’s.
“Area 61, Colorado” just say Cheyenne Mountain
EDWARD ZNOWDEN
Fujiko really is terrible with kids
Listen, I love a good Dutch angle, but I’m starting to feel like I should set up a CinemaSins counter at this point.  I’m glad to have some shot variety but there are other compositions, you know.
Motorcycle Jigen returns!!
Loving this little Morricone shoutout, which I unfortunately cannot seem to find on YouTube.
[strangled Goemon voice] “MISTAKE.”
God. GOD. Tony Oliver’s delivery in the betrayal scene is so good.  Lupin is clearly not buying it at all and is quite willing to play along with whatever the hell this is - until Jigen shoots him right in the heart.  That’s going to hurt a lot more than literally when he wakes up, though 1) given that the movie’s barely begun, I’m guessing he’s still not completely buying it (rightfully so) and is gonna look into this and 2) unfortunately this franchise isn’t known for actually digging into all the delicious angst and implications it likes to sling around.  Cowards.
Also, I like that Lupin seems to be wearing a navy shirt and pink tie like he had in early Part 2 instead of the blue shirt/yellow tie he has in the other Red Jacket movies.  Not sure why that’s what they went with but I’m down.
Okay, I went back and watched the betrayal scene in Japanese and OOF, it hits DIFFERENT to hear Kiyoshi Kobayashi deliver those lines.  He’s so utterly casual about it and it’s all the more angsty since he’s, y’know, a million years old, so here his Jigen sounds much more tired/resigned compared to Epcar’s brasher gunman.
The way that the shots focus on not only Jigen, but also Fujiko when the boss asks about the betrayal...nice.  Fujiko doesn’t know for sure if Jigen killed Lupin, but I imagine such a possibility would shake her at least a little - not just because she cares for that silly monkey man, but because that partnership has been a surprising constant in her life.  If even that could finally crumble, her natural cynicism is about to get a whole lot deeper.  Morbidly, she wants to know if Jigen had the balls to do it.  It’d be a hell of a lot more kindred spirit between them than she ever expected if so.  It’s a shame this plot wasn’t used in a Koike movie; it would’ve been great to see the deliberate parallel/foil from TWCFM continue.
“Why don’t we talk about your future?” the boss says as Jigen’s whole demeanor screams What future?  Even though Lupin isn’t dead and Jigen has his reasons for why he did this, Jigen hardly expects forgiveness after all this.  Lupin may be alive but Jigen has just killed the best thing he ever had and he can never get that back (except he can, because movie and long-running franchise, but y’know, Watsonian vs. Doylist).
The Dark Crystal (1982)
HATSUNE MIKU???  ACTUAL HATSUNE MIKU????? (just her voice but aksdjfkajsdkfjaklsjdfljasjdflajsdf)
Ohhhh, the Lupin & Clarisse / Jigen & the kid’s mom (still haven’t heard her name lmao) parallel was just uncalled for, my heart
Let Jigen wear burgundy more often
...Mr. Epcar, I love and respect you, but is it too much to ask that you vary your inflection a little more?  Where’s the PATHOS?
Slightly cried instantly, “The Wendy lady lives.”  Then Peter knelt beside her and found his button.  You remember she had put it on a chain that she wore round her neck.  “See,” he said, “the arrow struck against this. It is the kiss I gave her.  It has saved her life.”
BLACK JACKET
Burgundy suit + round glasses Goemon!!!
There’s no way Pops is getting his job back after this one
Goemon: [turns his usual hot girl swordsmanship up to 11]
Lupin: Well mark me down as scared AND horny! dot jpeg
Again with the CGI hand crimes.
Wow he straight-up said Jigen was cheating on him
Ah, see, that “waste of oxygen”/“huge mistake” bit of dialogue is the kind of inflection I like to hear.
WarGames (1983)
It took me entirely too long to realize the president was supposed to look like H.illary.
Goemon: [slices open a door for Fujiko]
Fujiko: “Oh, you.” <3
This is all very action-heavy and surprisingly decent for a Lupin film so far, but uh. why is Jigen once again a side character in his own movie?
Ayyyy, nice reference to Zantetsuken’s composition from Part 1.  Still insane that they melted down three awesome swords to make a different sword though.
Goemon snarks back to robots confirmed.  Not that Lupin would ever be stupid enough to buy an Al3xa/etc. but can you IMAGINE
JAZZ PIANIST FUJIKO!  Fujiko having actual interests and hobbies!!!
Comrade Emilka
TRIPLE PARALLEL WITH JIGEN & ALISA NOW
They just?? left Jigen in the middle of the desert after the absolute minimum discussion of All That????  That’s...on-brand actually but give me the angst this plot device deserved >:(
Michelle Ruff I would die for you
This variation on the main theme is my favorite.  I’ve probably listened to it about a thousand times at this point but I finally got to hear it in context.
Welp, that was one of the better Lupin movies I’ve seen, but I do wish they’d done more with the whole Jigen betrayal thing that ended up being more of a subplot.  Thank goodness for fics that do the work.
Edit: “There are about four different plots going on at once in this movie, and they forgot to focus on the one that’s in the actual title.” - @theimpossiblescheme

23 with Lupin/Jigen
Hii! Thanks for the ask!
23 - How do they hug? Kiss? Tease? Flirt? Comfort?
I think Lupin is extremely clingy. If he doesn't touch Jigen several times a day, he'll probably die - and I don't mean just cuddles. He usually avoids any groping when they're in public though, because he knows the gunman will not hesitate to shoot his hand clean off if he tried. Jigen's normally not much for cuddles, but he can't keep the thief off him, so he's learned to live with it. Lupin will sometimes just randomly come up behind him and give him a back hug - when Jigen's cooking, cleaning his gun, smoking on the balcony... It used to make Jigen jump and sometimes lash out in surprise, but he's learned to expect it, and actually enjoys Lupin's affection.
Lupin definitely flirts a lot; not sure about teasing, that seems to be more Fujiko's area, and idk if Lupin would do that with Jigen, but he has a game where he tries to make Jigen blush. He loves kissing his gunman, not just making out with him but sometimes just peppering kisses on any stretch of skin he can reach. Jigen usually tries to bat him away, to hide how much he actually like it. Lupin gets awfully smug when he manages to make him moan. Jigen has a lot of self-control and doesn't like showing his emotions, but he tends to lose himself in kisses sometimes (blame it on the lack of affection he's suffered through his whole life; Jigen is fucking touch starved). Lupin loves that, and sometimes plays with teasing Jigen until the point where the gunman will snap and shove him against a wall to make out with him just to shut him up. The thief gets off on knowing he's the one who makes Jigen react like that.
Lupin is not super good at comforting Jigen (and the gods know the poor man has a shitload of traumas that tend to rear up their ugly heads at the worst moments); so he usually resorts to hugging and kissing him when Jigen needs comfort and reassurance. He doesn't know how to talk him out of a bad stretch, but he can physically assure him that he's there for him, and that he's not going anywhere. As for the other way around, Lupin never (or very, very rarely) shows any weakness or vulnerability; and even if he did, trauma-ridden Jigen would be completely at loss for how to comfort someone who's usually the most confident and cocksure person he's ever met.

fifty reasons to have sex @tcthinecwnself said: ‘the elevator broke down’ sex (for Jigen, 👀👉👈 in case ya want to)
With resignation, Kent Mansley had accepted that he would not see Jigen Daisuke again in his lifetime.
He wasn’t sure why he harbored such a deep melancholy about that fact. Plenty of women had come and gone from his life. They wheeled about his affairs with the frivolous glee and ostentation of a merry-go-round, bounding around the periphery of deeper connection and providing just the briefest of enjoyable experiences. It was not that he loved them less, enjoyed them less, desired them less, but... There had been something special about Jigen, something that made his heart ache in the small hours of the morning.
Life had a real odd sense of humor.
Was there a good way to experience a punch to the face? It was the only apt comparison Kent could think of. Here he was, an unwilling visitor to San Francisco, and there Jigen was, in an elevator with him. By some bizarre miracle, they had booked the same damn hotel.
And it was him. Jigen’s presence was so unique, so uncanny. The way he carried himself in an effortless slouch, the tilt of the fedora (always that fedora) over his eyes, the midnight black mane spilling over his crooked shoulders... The elevator car was paneled wall-to-wall with mirrors. In each reflection was painted a separate angle of the gunman-- they provided all the information Kent needed to confirm his deduction.
The agent cleared his throat and pressed one of the light-up buttons of the elevator’s panel. “Funny running into you here,” he quipped. “What has you in town?”
Jigen laughed and pinched his mangled Marlboro between two fingers. “Really? What’s so funny about it?” Kent’s second question was left deliberately unanswered. He supposed that, perhaps, Jigen didn’t have the freedom to speak about his business openly.
It didn’t matter. Jigen worked with his hands, with the slug of a Smith & Wesson. That was always all Kent needed to know.
“What floor?” he asked.
Jigen lifted his hat to peek at the control panel and Kent felt his heart flutter upon glimpsing those dark eyes. “Oh, same as you actually.” He chuckled again. “Now I’m startin’ to see why this is funny.” Kent laughed quietly himself and pressed the close door button.
While Jigen took to leaning against the back wall of the elevator, Kent stood just shy of the center with his typical ramrod posture. The car coasted upward slowly with a low, futuristic hum. Otherwise it was silent and it was still.
Kent broke the silence. “It’s really nice to see you again.” Jigen tilted his head back with a look of mild surprise. Kent averted his gaze nervously and barked out a silted laugh. “I mean it! I just-- It’s a shock, but a good one. A very good one.”
What followed was as unpleasant as surprises came.
The lights overhead flickered wildly. The elevator’s low hum descended into an uneven groan. The car jerked up once, twice, before their slow accent ground to a halt. And then the silence returned, more intense than before.
Kent blinked rapidly and held absolutely still. After his muscles began to scream under the weight of holding his splayed out posture, he tentatively stepped backward. The elevator held steadfast under the shift in weight. Thank God.
Jigen glanced around, looking remarkably unperturbed, before flicking his cigarette to the floor and grinding it under his loafer. “Eh, don’t worry about this. This kinda thing happens more often than you’d think.” Kent had to wonder what he meant by this kind of thing. His life seemed so filled with excitement that both their chance meeting and current predicament seemed just as likely to happen.
Kent leaned back against the wall, standing side-by-side with the gunman, and ran a shaking hand through his coif. “I--” He stopped himself. What could he even say? It felt like this was a divine opportunity, a chance to spill his soul the likes of which he would never be given again. The agent’s gaze trailed down. Jigen was looking up at him. As if he were expectant.
Kent’s lashes fluttered as several false stats tumbled from his agape mouth. “I-- I missed you,” he finally managed. “I thought I’d never get to see you again. And that just made me miss you more. If you don’t feel the same, I... I understand. It was just one night, but it really changed me, Jigen. I hope you know that much at least.”
Jigen grabbed him by the lapels and tugged him down sharply. Kent stared, bright-eyed, back at him.
“I missed you too.” And then Jigen pulled him in for a kiss. Thank God.
Kent was all too willing to yield to Jigen’s advances; were he not so much of a coward he would’ve made the first move himself. He shoved his germinating shame to a far corner of his mind and kissed him back. Eagerly.
His lips were quick to part, and the slide of Jigen’s tongue against his own made him moan breathlessly into his mouth. Kent wedged a leg between the gunman’s legs and he gasped; it was his turn, then, to pin him to a wall. The tile squeaked under the heels of their shuffling loafers as Kent pressed him up against the mirror. A bolt of pleasure jolted down his spine as Jigen started grinding against his thigh. Their hips were almost flush against each other and every push forward made Kent’s dick pulse.
He couldn’t recall when Jigen’s hat had fallen to the floor, but he was grateful for it. Kent grabbed a fistful of his hair and pulled back, forcing himself to be the center of Jigen’s vision, of his world. The sound of linen against linen persisted until Kent removed his thigh.
It was an arduous task one-handed, but Kent managed to slip Jigen’s belt free from its loops. Gravity, as if it too were greedy, dropped his slacks about his ankles. Kent palmed Jigen’s hard cock through his boxers and the gunman yelped. “F-Fuck--! Kent--!” The low grit in his voice was shattered with a long whine when Kent gave him a firm, unrelenting squeeze. “Ohhhh, God--!”
A new kind of drunkenness blanketed over Kent’s mind. Jigen was fine red wine, aged and full and nourishing. Kent bent down to suck hard on the skin of his throat and groaned into him. Jigen trembled and groaned back, his hands pressing up against the agent’s chest. Kent pulled back and tugged down the gunman’s boxers as far as he felt was necessary.
Freed up fingers splayed against Jigen’s still wet lips. “Suck on them.” Kent’s voice was so soft, so close to silent it almost didn’t read as an order-- but the pained desire in his eyes made it very clear it was a command. They fell shut when Jigen complied. Eagerly complied, sucking so obscenely it was the only sound filling Kent’s ears.
Jigen’s tongue chased after his fingers when Kent pulled them away. “Lift one of your legs,” he instructed, and Jigen did as he was told. A trembling sigh unraveled out of Kent’s lungs. To have him obey so easily was intoxicating on its own.
“Nnh-- Aahh--! Kent, Kent-- Mm--” It was remarkably easy, the slide of him against his fingers. Kent got so bold as to pair his index with his middle finger and Jigen was all too pliant. “Ngh-- Oh, oh fuck. R-Right there, uh huh-- Yeah-- Yeah yeah yeah, uhnn--” Kent pulled hard and fast on his dark tresses and Jigen whined again. The sound bounced off the shallow walls the very same way his writhing form danced in every reflection.
“It’s so easy with you,” Kent murmured. His breath was warm against Jigen’s skin again. “I ask and you just give me everything. So easily.” His tongue traced a wet stripe up Jigen’s neck. “I want more. I want so much more.”
He shut his eyes again as he felt Jigen close in tight around his fingers. They pressed up against him hard, intent on drawing out an orgasm. Jigen cried out, loud and unashamed, and came. His whole body shook against Kent; he was warm, he was raw, he was every one of Kent’s desires screaming out for more. Two hot streaks of white landed across his shirtfront and tie and Kent found himself salivating at the sight.
When he withdrew his fingers Jigen let out a little, pitched noise of complaint. Kent unceremoniously wiped his hand up and down his pant leg and relinquished Jigen’s tresses. His handkerchief was removed from his breast pocket and swept away Jigen’s cum (as if his clothes weren’t already on their way to being ruined with the sweat he’d worked up).
It was silent again. Kent turned and regarded them both in the mirror and felt a pang deep, deep in his heart.
“...If we get out of here,” he started. “If we get out of here, I hope that we can... Finish this?” He didn’t just want to, in crude terms, get off. He wanted more of what they’d shared that first night together. Closeness, the thrill of shared desire, and the comfort of vulnerability. Jigen blinked up at him a couple times before he broke into laughter.
“Oh, come on! As if I’d let you go after that!” Kent, mercifully, felt stupid for even asking.

"You know I ain't straight, but I'mma say it straight to you, I look you in the face, every time I talk to you." Dorian Electra's whispery tones sound from the small radio in the motel room that seems to be falling apart. Stone moves with the beat, grinning as his hips swing while he makes food for the both of them. The inspector was out at the moment, getting supplies for their next upcoming trip, and Stone used that opportunity to have a little time to themselves.
"I wanna be clear, and not convolute. I'll say what I mean, I expect the same from you." He songs along with the radio, soon getting distracted from his task of making food, body swaying as it plays on.
They had no idea what the inspector thought of this kind of music, or of him. The song hits in a place they don't expect, his heart overwhelmed by the lines that speak of clear communication, with such blatant homoerotic undertones. But this doesn't stop him from dancing, or enjoying themselves, not one bit. They smile as they decide to lose themselves in it, not dwell on his feelings.
"So, you wanna play rough in the parking lot?" His voice harmonizes as his hands move up and down their body in a less than wholesome manner, just feeling out the vibe of the song. They barely hear the door open, lost to the music.
"So, you actin' tough, but I know you're not?" Their body moves like water, fluid, uniform, rippling with the infectious beats of Dorian's music. He smiles fully now, eyes closed, completely absorbed. Zenigata almost says something, but goes silent when he sees his partner in crime-catching moving his hips like... that. His face slowly colors itself a bright scarlet, watching with wide eyes.
"We can take it outside, scuffle in the streetlights, I just really wanna fight with you..." As the bridge rises in pitch, so does Stone's voice, matching the singer word for word. He turns around, trying to remember the dance he had seen in the music video, and then...
He opens his eyes as the chorus starts, and their eyes meet Koichi's. They blush brightly, his expression turning from happy, free sensuality to ashamed embarrassment. He can feel his cheeks absolutely burn, and they try to explain.
"Inspector-!! Uh! I was... just... making lunch, um, I'll, uh... yeah." They turn around, hands fidgeting nervously. What the hell was Koichi gonna think?
"Uh-! It... it's fine! Really. I... haven't uh, heard this song before!" Koichi blurts, trying to get him to keep talking. To stay open. He liked seeing Stone like that, but saying it... that was a lot harder.
"Man to Man, hand to hand, one on one, friend to friend..." Stone winces. God, this was going to be an ordeal. The sensual tones of the song were DEFINITELY coming through now, and so was the song's message. Be honest. Talk to each other.
The song, intermixed with the two talking in the room, sounded like a three way conversation.
"Uh... yeah. It's Dorian Electra, they're a really good singer, u-um... if it bothers you, I can turn it off."
"No, it's alright, just..."
"Are you man enough to soften up?"
"... I..."
"Are you tough enough to open up?"
"..." Koichi takes a pause, as the lyrics beckon him forward. "... I didn't know you could dance like that," he admits. Stone looks over at that, blinking in surprise.
"I... oh! Yeah, uh... I just..." They look down, hands fidgeting. "I used to dance for competitions. I was a lot different back then, but... I dunno. I still like it, and..."
"Man to Man, you gotta let me in."
He looks up. "... and as someone who's uh. Not straight, I relate a lot."
Koichi blinks, staring owlishly at him for a moment. "... oh. Oh! Oh, I uh. I getcha." He smiles sheepishly. Stone let's out a breath he didn't know he was holding. The beat plays on in the background, and there's a somewhat... strangely comfortable tension between the two. Nothing serious, but... a heat that settled in thick, something unsaid, but something clear to the both of them.
"Oh, yeah! Uh, I'm bisexual." They actually smile at that, seeming more confident now. They move just the slightest bit closer, to test the waters.
He doesn't move back, but Zenigata's cheeks do go back to the scarlet tone they were before at the movement, the song, the all too recent memory of the way Stone moved...
Suddenly, something in him clicked, and questions about his own sexuality, questions he'd been ignoring for years, explode into motion in his mind. Something about Stone just pried open the dam, and he tried not to look panicked as hell about the new, confusing experience he was suddenly, finally going through.
"O-Oh, that's fine! I'm, uh... glad you told me. That takes a lot of courage!" He says, smiling, but it's a little strained.
Stone sees it. "Thank you, but... are you alright? Your face is bright red..."
Koichi gawks, before hiding it with his hat. "I-I just...! Sunburn, that's what it is! The sun has been beating down on me all day!" He makes excuses, the song ironically crooning on about letting each other in. About honesty. His heart pounds in his chest, as he averts his gaze. Looking at them makes his chest feel like it's gonna explode.
"Oh, no!" Stone pouts. "We'll get some aloe for that, ok? You gonna be alright?"
"Yes! Yup, of course!" He answers far too fast. "Just uh! Gonna put...! Away the supplies yeah! Yep! Mhm!" And before Stone can ask any more questions, Zenigata rushes into the bedroom, shutting the door behind him.
They blink, looking concerned. Hm... was it something they said? They're not sure what to make of his reaction.
Koichi, meanwhile, leans against the door, back to the wood and eyes wide. His mind races. Suddenly, half of his life is practically called into question.
Suddenly, he thinks about all the times Lupin had flirted with him, and instead of responding with anger, he only ever wanted to fulfill his job. It wasn't like he minded. Chasing Lupin wasn't just work... it was fun. Spending time with Lupin this way was strangely intricate. The traded flirting and the banter, the truces, the way he had risked life and limb for the other...
Then, there was the occasional time he and Jigen would share a cigarette, and he'd see the gunman in the sun, outlined by the oranges and yellows of the sky. Truces were always strange affairs. They always made his chest feel tight, held back. He was never sure why...
And of course, Goemon. The warrior always had a beauty about him that distracted Koichi mildly, and it had annoyed him more than once in the past. Sometimes he cursed how beautiful the samurai was, wishing it was easier to focus when capturing him. It was never until now that he wondered why that was...
And then there was Stone. He thinks about them, their voice singing out alongside the radio. Their smile. His eyes. Their fluffy, soft hair.. His soft hands that somehow became so rough in a fight. Their moves... holy hell, those hips, the way they moved to the sensual ballad playing on the radio, their freed look as they were themselves for just a moment, truly themselves...
The idea of them taking those hips and moving them in just the right way, the idea of their voice saying his name in so many ways, the idea that they shared something much less friendly with him... it hits him like a truck, to think of Stone in such an intimate way. Waking up beside them in the morning and the way they made him his favorite coffee without even being asked, capturing the gang with them and how EASILY they fit into his wild routine without a problem...
It's with a skipped beat of his heart that he realizes it. It hits him hard, and he almost feels stupid for not seeing it before.
He's nowhere near as straight as he thought he was.
